It has been the 648th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian federation continues to wage a war of aggression. Despite significant losses, it does not abandon its plans for the complete occupation of Ukraine. The enemy continues to ignore the laws and customs of war, uses terror tactics, conducts strikes, and shells both military and civilian targets.

The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine remains difficult.

On December 3, there were 56 combat engagements.

The enemy launched a missile strike, 31 air strikes, 24 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. Private residential buildings as well as other civilian infrastructure were destroyed and damaged.

Towards Volyn and Polissya axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group. Certain units of the armed forces of belarus continue their missions in the areas bordering Ukraine.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. Around 20 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Volodymyrivka, Hasychivka (Chernihiv oblast), Kozache (Sumy oblast), Hraniv, Budarky, and Chuhunivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy conducted assault operations in the vicinity of Synkivka (Kharkiv oblast). Ukrainian defenders repelled 7 attacks in the area. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, including Fyholivka, Ivanivka, Kyslivka, Tabaivka, Krokhmalne, and Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Lyman, the invaders made failed assaults with air support in the area of Serebrianka forestry (Luhansk oblast), where Ukrainian defenders repelled 3x attacks. The invaders launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Spirne (Donetsk oblast). The occupiers fired artillery and mortars at around 10x settlements, including Makiivka, Nevske, Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Yampolivka, Torske, and Dibrova (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, the invaders conducted offensives with air support near Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka and Andriivka (Donetsk oblast), where Ukrainian defenders repelled 16x attacks. Around 20 settlements, including Minkivka, Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, and Ozarianivka (Donetsk oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Avdiivka, the invaders made assaults with air support east of Novokalynove, east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiivka, Sievierne, Pervomaiske (Donetsk oblast), to no success. Ukrainian defenders repelled 14 attacks in the area. The enemy fired artillery and mortars at around 15 settlements, including Novokalynove, Berdychi, Avdiivka, Tonenke, Netailove, and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Marinka axis: the invaders made failed assaults with air support in the vicinities of Marinka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast), where Ukrainian defense forces repelled 5 attacks. The settlements of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Marinka, Pobieda, Paraskoviivka, and Katerynivka (Donetsk oblast) were under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Shakhtarske, the adversary conducted unsuccessful offensives in the vicinity of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast). Around 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Vodiane, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the enemy made 3 attempts to regain lost ground south of Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast), to no success. Also, the invaders conducted unsuccessful offensives near Novopokrivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast). The adversary launched an airstrike near Novodarivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast).  Around 25 settlements, including Charivne, Novodanylivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Stepove, Kamianske, and Plavni (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Kherson, the invaders launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Krynky (Kherson oblast). The enemy fired artillery at the settlements of Dudchany, Beryslav, Ivanivka, Sadove, Romashkove (Kherson oblast), as well as the cities of Kherson and Ochakiv (Mykolaiv oblast).

Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold their ground on the left bank of the Dnipro River (Kherson oblast) and inflict fire on the enemy.

On December 3, Ukrainian Air Force launched 2 strikes on air defense systems, 8 strikes on buildups of troops, weapons and military equipment, and 2 strikes on ammunition depots of the occupiers.

Ukrainian rocket troops hit 1 heavy multiple rocket flamethrower system, and 1 Pantsir self-propelled anti-aircraft system of the russian invaders.

Also, overnight Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 10 of 12 Shahed-136/131 UAVs.


The Office of the Prosecutor General has launched an investigation into the shooting of two Ukrainian soldiers by a group of russian soldiers in Donetsk oblast. A video posted online on December 2 shows russian soldiers shooting unarmed Ukrainian soldiers who surrendered at point blank range. The incident took place near the village of Stepove, Pokrovsk region. 

The press service of the Ministry of Energy reports that due to bad weather, hostilities and technological disruptions, 504 settlements are without electricity, while 422 settlements remain without electricity due to hostilities and technological disruptions.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the enemy shelled at least 16 settlements of Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv, Chuhuiv and Kupiansk regions.

A 5-storey apartment building was damaged as a result of shelling in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Kupiansk region. Windows were broken in the building. There were no casualties.

In addition, Udy and Stohnii of Bohodukhiv region, Kozacha Lopan and Vetarynarne of Kharkiv region, Vovchansk of Chuhuiv region, Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove of Kupiansk region and other settlements were under enemy attack.

There were no casualties.

Towards Kupiansk, our defenders repelled 7 enemy attacks near Synkivka, Petropavlivka and Ivanivka.

Mine clearance is ongoing. Pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 4.9 hectares of territory and defused 51 explosive ordnance.

Donetsk oblast

Volodymyr Fito, Head of the public relations service of the Group Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that the russian army attacked 335 times towards Bakhmut and 420 times towards Lyman-Kupiansk. Also russians are attempting to attack these frontline areas. 410 Russian servicemen were eliminated.

Oleksandr Shevchenko, Head of Novohrodivka City Military Administration, informed that a family with an 8-year-old child was not found at the site of a partially destroyed three-storey building. On Monday, they will start sorting through the debris and remove it. If the family is not found, they will be considered missing.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office said that on 3 December, the russian military shelled Avdiivka and Kostiantynivka, allegedly with cannon artillery. One person was killed and two others injured. Buildings were damaged.

There was no information about casualties over the day.

Towards Donetsk, a building was damaged in Soloviove of Ocheretyne community. Berdychi was shelled. Krasnohorivka, Kostiantynivka and Heorhiivka of Marinka community were under attack. In the morning, there was a massive shelling of Avdiivka. Novoekonomichne of Hrodivka community suffered 5 missile attacks and three private buildings and educational institutions were damaged.

Towards Horlivka, russians dropped a guided bomb on Shcherbynivka of Toretsk community, damaging 8 buildings. Three private buildings and an industrial building were damaged in Chasiv Yar community. Halytsynivka was shelled with artillery.

Towards Lysychansk, Siversk and Torske of Lyman community were shelled and there were no casualties.

Volunteers from Poltava built a modular house for a woman from Bohorodychne. Her house burned down when the village was occupied by russians. The new house has two rooms and an area of 40 square metres.

Luhansk oblast

Our defenders repelled a russian attack near Stelmakhivka, Svatove region. The enemy is not giving up its intentions to seize Serebrianka forest, where it was repelled four times by Ukrainian defenders yesterday alone. The enemy cannon and missile artillery is being used to the maximum extent possible in all weather conditions. The shelling of settlements and fortifications is now super intense.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that in Starobilsk, the occupiers cancelled the celebration of St Nicholas Day in all educational institutions. They say that this is a purely Ukrainian holiday so no gifts should be prepared for children. Instead, the children will be greeted, specifically, by Kish Babai from Tatarstan, who has been granted the so-called patronage of some of the occupied communities in Luhansk oblast. One of them already performed yesterday at the exhibition of national economy, where children from the region were recently forcibly brought.

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the local agrarian university was granted federal status by russians. But its employees have not received anything since the start of the new academic year. They have been in salary debt for three months. In addition, they were not paid for their summer holidays.

Artem Lysohor, Head of the RMA, stated that the invaders cut off gas supply to houses where the russian military lived and did not pay their bills in Svatove region.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of Kyiv RMA, said that the special commission has already inspected 31 objects that are being restored at the expense of the Fund for Liquidating Armed Aggression Consequences and UNITED24. Recently they worked in Hostomel and Vorzel, where they checked the reconstruction of educational institutions.

22 shelters are being equipped at the expense of the Fund for Liquidating Armed Aggression Consequences and the regional budget. Most of them are in schools and kindergartens of the oblast.

The Ministry of Veterans of Ukraine reported that acceptance of applications from candidates for veterans’ assistants for next year has begun. Kyiv and the oblast participate in the experimental project Veteran’s Assistant, which will help demobilized soldiers adapt to civilian life.

In Bucha, the primary military training course for civilians has been launched. The training is organized by the local voluntary formation and includes tactical medicine, engineering and fire training, military topography, communications.

Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of Kyiv regional military administration, said that together with Winner Group Ukraine, a FORD TRANSIT vehicle was handed over to one of the anti-aircraft machine gun battalions that protect the airspace of Kyiv oblast. The vehicle will be used as a command and staff car. In the near future, it will be completed with the necessary equipment.

Irpin City Council reported that the Spanish charitable organization Remar S.O.S handed over humanitarian aid to families temporarily living in the modular town Lastivka. Also, the children of the community will receive gifts for Christmas and New Year holidays.

Preparations for winter holidays in the capital will consider the security situation. The KCSA reported that a curfew regime is still on in Kyiv, which will continue without exception during Christmas and New Year holidays. The capital authorities will not spend budget funds on arranging New Year’s locations. The installation of the main Christmas tree on Sofia Square will be financed by patrons, and visitors to the festive zone in the city center will be able to donate to the Army Forces.

Zhytomyr oblast

In November, the co-owners of six apartments in Zhytomyr oblast applied for compensation for destroyed housing under the program eRecovery. With this money, people can buy real estate on the primary or secondary market. As reported by the RMA, from January 1, 2024, residents will be able to receive funds to finance the construction of a house on their own land.

With funding from Switzerland and the Ukrainian-Swiss project “Development of Medical Education”, a simulation center for training doctors was opened in Zhytomyr. In total, Switzerland financed the creation of 6 simulation centres in Ukraine, where future doctors and nurses can develop their skills on special mannequins in conditions close to reality.

By the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, students of Zhytomyr Lyceum No. 30 handed over 800 hand-painted gingerbreads for the military to the hospital and collected more than 600 packages of sweets for the children of Lyman community. Volunteers promise to deliver the gifts by December 6.

Sumy oblast

Sumy Military Administration reported that russians shelled Krasnopillia community, 5 explosions from a mortar rang out.

During the past day, the army of the russian federation carried out 22 shelling attacks on the border territories and settlements of Sumy oblast, a total of 149 artillery and mortar hits were recorded. The communities of Yunakivka, Velyka Pysarivka, Seredina-Buda, Bilopillia, Esman, Khotyn and Krasnopillia were under russian fire.

The police of Sumy oblast reported that as a result of artillery shelling in Yunakivka on December 2, a farm warehouse was damaged. Two private residential buildings were damaged due to mortar shelling in the city of Seredyna-Buda. 

In Sumy, volunteers of one of the branches of the charitable foundation “We are the Northern Outpost here ” wove about 1,200 nets for the Armed Forces during the year. Now, according to the coordinators of the project, half a hundred townspeople have joined them.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv border detachment reported that, three communities of the oblast came under russian shelling yesterday.

On the territory of Novhorod-Siverskyi community, border guards recorded six hits from a mortar near the village of Buda Vorobivka. Snovsk community suffered 1 attack from an anti-tank missile on the outskirts of the village of Hirsk and 6 attacks from a mortar on the village of Kliusy.

The enemy made 37 hits to the village of Oleksandrivka in Semenivka community from self-propelled guns. As a result of terrorist shelling, two civilians were injured, one residential building was destroyed and two damaged. The village of Leonivka was also under shelling, and russians hit it 16 times with a mortar.

A backup power system was set up in Chernihiv Regional Hospital – a Polish-made generator with a capacity of over 300 kW. It is equipped with a control unit of the Czech  ComAp company. As reported by the RMA, the generator will be able to fully ensure the functioning of high-value equipment and apparatus, which works in branches around the clock and requires uninterrupted power supply.

The regional emergency department reported that as part of the All-Ukrainian project, 15 Safety Classrooms were opened in Chernihiv region during the week. During the first lessons, the emergency workers paid special attention to mine safety and the rules of handling in case of detection of explosive objects. The rescuers also presented the students with thematic souvenir products from the United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF Ukraine.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council announced that during the night occupiers attacked Nikopol region twice. They shelled Nikopol itself and Chervonohryhorivka community, firing half a dozen shells.

During the day the enemy attacked Nikopol 3 times. 2 kamikaze drones and artillery were used. About a dozen shells were fired.

Kirovohrad oblast

Tyshkiv Lyceum students of Novoukrainianka region of Kirovohrad oblast have been helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. They weave camouflage nets, make trench candles, organize fairs, during which they sell goodies, self-made paintings and charms. Earned money they spend on helping soldiers from their own and neighbouring communities.

Poltava oblast

More than 140 children of fallen defenders will receive gifts from St. Nicholas on December 6. These children from Poltava community are participants in the Letter to St. Nicholas campaign, which is organized by the Poltava Battalion of the Indifferent charitable organization. 

Cherkasy oblast

For the children of the defenders of the 118th Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense, the Rotary Club of Cherkasy and the Chaplain Service of Cherkasy Regional Council held a day of psychological relief using the methods of fairy-tale therapy in combination with art therapy and ethnotherapy. The children got acquainted with the exhibits of the Cherkasy Regional Museum of Local Lore, listened to fairy tales and made angels.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Zaporizhzhia RMA reported that on December 3, russian soldiers attacked 19 localities in Zaporizhzhia oblast with 86 strikes. 73 attacks took place in Novodanilovka, Belogorye, Levadne, Poltavka, Robotyne, Plavni, Kamianske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaki, Piatykhatki and other frontline towns and villages. 

According to the National Resistance Centre, the majority of the local population of Enerhodar in Zaporizhzhia oblast did not support the occupation and left the city, so most of the apartments in Enerhodar are currently empty and “subject to nationalisation”. Russian invaders register such apartments and transfer them to collaborators, the military and their families. 

Ivan Fedorov, Mayor of Melitopol, reported that in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast, russian occupation forces are looking for partisans to suppress resistance. During searches of homes, they are staging the discovery of weapons and ammunition. Drivers are allegedly being checked for compliance with traffic rules, but in reality, they are checking documents and searching cars.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitaliy Kim, Head of the Mykolaiv RMA, referencing district military administrations and the South Operational Command reported that at night on December 2 and 3, the Air Defense Forces successfully neutralized 8 russian Shahed-131/136 type UAVs. Subsequently, on December 2 at 19:40, there was an attack involving rocket artillery strikes by hostile forces on Berezansk community. This assault resulted in damage to residential structures, a garage, and an automobile, leading to a fire in one of the houses, which was promptly extinguished. At 23:08 on December 2, the russian forces from the Kinburn Spit territory launched artillery shelling toward Kutsurub community, primarily targeting open areas. No casualties or injuries were reported in any of these attacks. 

Pervomaisk town in Mykolaiv oblast has entered into a partnership agreement with the German city of Augsburg. Under this partnership, international collaborators will support drafting a strategic plan for the municipal water utility and supply pumping equipment.

Odesa oblast

Volunteers organized a charitable festival named “Winter Fairy Tale” at Odesa Park to celebrate Saint Nicholas Day. The festival featured beloved characters, including Saint Nicholas, along with raffles, scientific and magical presentations, sports activities, and quests for children. During this event, volunteers from Trymay NGO in collaboration with the event agency Fiesta and the NGO One Step Closer, not only distributed gifts to both children and adults but also collected donations for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The festival aimed to rally support for abandoned animals as well.

Presently, Odesa oblast has welcomed 82 Ukrainian citizens evacuated from the Gaza sector, among whom are 45 children. Within the city of Odesa, accommodations have been arranged for 19 individuals, and they are actively receiving assistance in processing necessary documents. Thanks to support from regional authorities, international organizations, and charitable foundations, the evacuees have been provided with crucial essentials such as food, hygiene kits, clothing, footwear, and more.

Today, reports indicate the presence of 18 foreign ships in the vicinity of the Greater Odesa ports. All ships are en route to Odesa for loading purposes, as confirmed by the MarineTraffic portal. Specifically, within Odesa port, there are 6 ships, 10 in Chornomorsk and 2 in Southern port. Additionally, 8 ships are outbound. The Ukrainian maritime corridor exhibits increasing activity week by week. According to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Administration, approximately 160 ships have utilized the grain corridor, facilitating the export of nearly 6.2 million tons of agricultural and metal products to Asia, Africa, and Europe.

Kherson oblast

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that the russian military struck at the central district of Kherson. They hit a multi-storey building. One person was killed and seven injured.

At around 11:20, the russian military shelled one of the settlements in Kherson region. A shell hit a garage, killing a 78-year-old man.   

The buildings of two medical institutions in Kherson were damaged during the shelling by the russian army. 

On December 2, the Southern Defence Forces destroyed two cannons, a boat, six armoured vehicles, five observation posts and one UAV control centre of the russian army. They killed 13 russian servicemen.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that on December 2, the russian military made 76 attacks. The enemy fired 27 shells at the city of Kherson. russian troops hit residential areas of the region’s settlements; the territory of a plant; and a power grid. 1 person was injured. 

According to the National Resistance Centre, over the past month, the russian army deported one hundred Ukrainians from the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson  oblast under the guise of evacuation. The lists of these people include local residents suspected by the russian occupiers of disloyalty. 

The Centre for Investigative Journalism said that after a storm in the Black Sea on November 27, Dzharylhach in Kherson oblast separated from the mainland and became an island again. In the spring of 2023, the russian army covered the crossing with sand, connected the island to the occupied part of the oblast and set up a military training ground there. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Volyn children sent letters, drawings and charms to the soldiers who defend Ukraine on the front lines. Power banks and personal thanks from the head of the RMA and honorary certificates of the RMA were added to the children’s packages.

Zakarpattia oblast

The Oleh Kravets Sports and Rehabilitation Center for people with disabilities and war veterans will open in Uzhhorod. 30 people with disabilities from Zakarpattia will be rehabilitated on the lower floor, because it is the one that is starting to function in test mode.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Ivano-Frankivsk, UAH 540K was allocated for 27 defenders who are currently defending Ukraine. Since the beginning of the year, 886 soldiers have benefited from such assistance in the amount of UAH 17 mln 720K.

Lviv oblast

The RMA reported that Krasnosk City Hospital received a generator station from the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of the Republic of Poland.

The world premiere of the ballet based on Mykhailo Kotsyubynskyi’s story Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors took place at Lviv Opera. During the silent auction, over UAH 4 mln was collected to purchase drones for the soldiers of the 80th separate amphibious assault brigades, the 125th and the 103th separate brigades of the territorial defense, and AZOV brigades.

During the charity art auction, $60K was collected to support two military hospitals. The event took place within the artistic project “We and the World”, which was initiated by Kozytskyi CF.

In Chervonohrad region, 4 border guards were posthumously awarded with the 3th degree Order of Courage. Volunteers from Strii received the For Assistance of the Military awards from Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine .

The thematic marathon Mental Health is Important! for teachers, parents and psychologists will start in Lviv oblast. The training takes place within the framework of the Comprehensive program of mental health care and psychosocial support of the civilian population.

Rivne oblast

This year, 369 IDPs became employed through the regional employment service. 87 unemployed persons received professional training, 8 people took part in public and other works of a temporary nature, 20 received a study voucher, and 684 used career guidance services. In total, this year, 1,1K IDPS have applied to the employment service, and  3,2K IDPs since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a meeting with chiefs of the police, the Security Service of Ukraine, representatives of the territorial center for staffing and social support of the oblast. They discussed providing personnel and equipment and the transfer of equipment for the construction of military engineering and fortification facilities.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Representatives of the Plan International and the Disasters Emergency Committee (Great Britain) came to Khmelnytskyi to discuss the achieved results, challenges and opportunities and sharing experience between the project’s pilot communities.

Chernivtsi oblast

A charity concert for the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be held in Chernivtsi. During the concert, funds will be collected for a DJI MAVIC 3 Fly More Combo drone for the 7th border detachment and for the military needs of the 1st mortar battery of the 2nd mechanized battalion of the 116th brigade of Anatolii Kovaliv.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Germany sent a new aid package to Ukraine, including: 4 HX81 tractors and 4 semi-trailers for them; 8 Zetros trucks, 3 vehicles, 2 border service cars, 1 system of mobile antennas, 15 long-range HLR 338 sniper rifles and 60K cartridges for them, 25 laser rangefinders, 5 drone detection sensors, 3 840 artillery shells of 155 m calibre, and 250 sets of tools with explosive material.

Switzerland financed the creation of 6 simulation centres for training medics in Ukraine. In these centres, future medics and nurses can practise their skills on special mannequins in conditions as close as possible to real work with patients.

The 2nd group of Ukrainian military personnel completed training on the operation of the Patriot air defense system. The training course was held in Germany and lasted more than six weeks.

Japan introduced a new program for Ukrainian refugees. Previously, the country did not grant refugee status to our immigrants. But everything changed on December 1. If desired, those who fled the war can attend Japanese language lessons and courses for adapting to life in the country. Foreigners will also be entitled to financial support, but the amount has not yet been announced.
