War in Ukraine today: latest news, 25 May, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 822th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The occupiers do not stop attacking Ukrainian positions along almost the entire front line. During the day, the enemy launched four terrorist strikes with missiles and guided aerial bombs on Kharkiv. The russian invaders fired missiles at the central park and dense residential buildings, and hit the hypermarket with two KABs. In total, the enemy launched three missile strikes, using six missiles (type to be specified) and two guided aerial bombs. As a result of such insidious and criminal actions of the aggressor, civilians suffered. Unfortunately, there are dead, wounded and missing civilians.  

The total number of KABs used against the positions of Ukrainian units and civilian infrastructure is about 40 units.

The total number of enemy offensive and assault actions has already increased to 99. Most of the clashes occurred towards Kupyansk, Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. At the same time, the Defense Forces of Ukraine are taking all necessary measures to deplete the offensive potential of russian troops, beat the enemy and destroy its equipment. 

Towards Kharkiv, the invaders continue to carry out assault operations.  Ukrainian soldiers successfully repelled six enemy attacks, four are still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers do not stop trying to put pressure on the defensive lines of Ukrainian defenders. They are unsuccessfully trying to improve their tactical position in the vicinity of Miasozharivka and Novoiehorivka. In total, the number of assault operations in this direction has been increased to 14. Half of them were successfully repelled by units of the Defense Forces, seven are still ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the enemy carried out five attacks during the day, one of which is still ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the russian aggressor continues to attempt to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the area of Bilohorivka and Verkhnokamianske. The number of clashes since the beginning of the day has increased to nine. Four attacks were successfully repelled, five are still ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, russian terrorists continue to carry out assault operations near Klishchiivka, Nove, Ivanivske and Andriivka. 11 combat clashes took place here, one of which is still ongoing. 

Pokrovsk area remains the hottest spot of the entire front line. By this time, the number of enemy attacks here increased to 23. The occupiers are trying to push through Ukrainian defenses with the support of attack aircraft. Ukrainian soldiers hold the occupied lines and inflict significant losses on the enemy.  Our defenders successfully destroyed another SU-25 of the russian aggressor in this direction.  

Towards Kurakhove, the number of clashes increased to 14. Eight enemy attacks were repelled, four are still ongoing. 

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy tried three times to carry out assault operations near Robotyne and Novoadriivka. They were unsuccessful. 

Towards the Dnipro river area, on the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro, the occupiers increased the number of attacks to nine, but still all these attempts to push Ukrainian units near Krynky were in vain.

In other directions, the situation has not changed significantly.


Ihor Terekhov, Mayor of Kharkiv, says that the number of victims of the russian attack on the Epicenter hypermarket in Kharkiv has increased to 40 people. There could be more than 200 people in the hypermarket.  

The Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reports that more than 400 Ukrainian women are being held captive by Russia, some of them civilians. There are also women whose fate has been unknown since 2014. 

The Ministry of Defense has signed contracts for the purchase of women’s military uniforms worth almost UAH 130m. More than 90% of uniform sets were delivered to military units.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that russians stormed towards Kupiansk 14 times on 25 May. The city remains one of the most intensely attacked areas in Ukraine. The occupiers keep trying to press on the Ukrainian positions there, trying to improve their tactical position in the areas of Miasozharivka and Novoiehorivka. Half of the 14 russian attacks were repelled, and another 7 are ongoing.

Towards Kharkiv, russian troops continue to attack: There were 6 attacks repelled by Ukrainian troops, 4 are ongoing.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, informed that a hypermarket in Kharkiv was shelled. There were two KAB attacks, 6 people killed and 40 people injured. Several hundred people could have been inside. 17 people are still missing. An emergency response headquarters was deployed at the site. A mobile DNA laboratory is working.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that 18 people were wounded in another attack on the central part of Kharkiv. A 13-year-old boy who was hospitalised is among the injured. The shell that the russians used to hit Kharkiv’s Central Park did not explode and is being demined. He noted that the fourth strike on Kharkiv in a day hit several civilian objects, namely  a post office, a barbershop, and a cafe.

Occupiers attacked Kupiansk-Vuzlove with multiple rocket launchers. At least five people were injured. An ambulance and one civilian vehicle were damaged. 

Volodymyr Tymoshko, Head of Kharkiv regional police, also informed about two hits near Chuhuiv, and another one near Pechenihy. He noted that the russians were firing Grom E-1 systems at the central park of Kharkiv. The premises damaged as a result of the russian strike on the centre of Kharkiv will be taken under guard overnight.

In Vovchansk, evacuation is complicated due to intensified shelling. Besides, 50 some people are taken captive. Evacuation efforts are ongoing. 

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, reported that the construction of the third line of defence continues despite the intense shelling – 90% of the line is ready.

He also noted that almost 700 hectares of forest are burning on the territory of Oskil community as a result of russian strikes. There are also fires in Balaklia and Borova..

At 00:59 – 01:42am, as a result of S-300 missile strikes on Kharkiv, Slobidskyi district, a building of an educational institution, 16 cars, and almost a hundred windows in apartment buildings were damaged.

One of the missiles hit an educational institution in Sloboda district on the night of 25 May. A security guard was on duty at the time of the attack, but he was not injured because he went down to the shelter.

At 04:40am, an outbuilding was on fire as a result of shelling in Borova village, Izium region.

At 01:00am, Korotych village, Kharkiv region, was shelled. 

The day before, at 19:00pm, Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi was shelled. An educational institution was damaged. 

At 15:07pm, as a result of shelling of Mala Danilivka village, Kharkiv region, residential buildings were damaged.

At 14:45pm as a result of the shelling of Zolochiv, Bohodukhiv region, 5 private households were damaged near the kindergarten. 

At 10:00am, a man was injured as a result of the shelling of Verkhnia Pysarivka village, Chuhuiv region. 

At 09:30am, a man was injured in Kupiansk as a result of an explosion at the unprotected gas station.

Towards Kharkiv, there were 13 combat confrontations with russian invaders.Ten attacks were repelled in the areas of Lyptsi, Tykhe and Vovchansk. The battle near Starytsia continues. The situation is under control. In addition, Ukrainian defenders are pushing the enemy back from the front line with assault operations, and are succeeding in some areas.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried 17 times to force ukrainian units out of their positions. Fighting took place in the vicinity of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Stelmakhivka, Novoiehorivka, Druzheliubivka and Nevske. Currently, fighting continues near Novoiehorivka, Petropavlivka and Ivanivka. The enemy has partially succeeded in the latter two areas, and the situation is tense. The Ukrainian defence forces are taking active measures to stabilise the situation.

Over 11,000 people have been evacuated from Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv regions.

Donetsk oblast

According to the morning report of the General Staff, the Armed Forces are successful towards Siversk. Pokrovsk remains the most active area, with russians losing more than 280 troops in action yesterday.

Khortytsia operational-strategic group, reported that servicemen of the 110th Brigade named after Marko Bezruchko shot down a russian Su-25 attack aircraft in Donetsk oblast.

Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia group, added that the invaders are concentrating their forces to break through towards Bakhmut and gain access to the canal. They are engaging the latest tanks and armoured vehicles, T-90M and BMD-4, to attack the Ukrainian military in this area.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of the RMA, informed that one person was killed and four others injured as a result of russian shelling.

Oleksandr Zhuravlov, Head of Lyman CMA, said that russian troops shelled the outskirts in the morning.

The strike set a forest near the town on fire, but no one was injured.

In the afternoon, the enemy shelled Zalizne of Toretsk community by artillery, killing a 40-year-old woman and damaging at least 3 private houses.

In the morning, Marinka community was shelled: 2 people were injured in Zoriane and 1 more in Krasnohorivka. In addition, one person was reported injured as a result of shelling in Lyman.

Larysa Husieva, Deputy Head of the regional Department of Housing and Communal Services, said that due to russian shelling and strikes, the energy system of Donetsk oblast suffered losses of over UAH 23bn. These are losses from the cost of destroyed property and lost profits. The russian army destroyed about 7,400km of power grids and 71 substations.

The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 25 May is as follows:

Towards Pokrovsk, a person was injured in Krasnohorivka. The outskirts of Ocheretyne community were under attack.

Towards Kramatorsk, an outbuilding was damaged in Rubtsi of Lyman community. A person was killed in Zelene Pole of Illinivka community, 11 objects were damaged. The outskirts of Kostiantynivka community were shelled, without casualties or damage.

Towards Bakhmut, 2 people were killed and 4 houses damaged in Siversk. In Toretsk, 1 person was injured, an administrative building and an infrastructure facility damaged. 11 private houses, an apartment building and an industrial building were damaged in Chasiv Yar community.

In total, russians shelled settlements in Donetsk oblast 12 times over a day. 438 people, including 49 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesteday russians killed 3 civilians: 2 in Siversk and 1 in Zelene Pole. Two more people were injured in the oblast over the day.

Luhansk oblast

The enemy is putting pressure on Kupiansk frontline. Attacks were repelled near Novovodiane, Kovalivka, Kolomyichyha, Stelmakhivka, Novoiehorivka and Nevske. Over the day, 56 invaders were neutralised in this area, including killed and injured. A tank and a Hyacinth self-propelled gun were destroyed. The enemy was also stopped in Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest.

Nevske, Stelmakhivka, Novoliubivka, Kuzemivka and Makiivka were shelled by artillery and mortars.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, stated that the circumstances under which Luhansk residents under occupation are allowed to stay in the 5km special zone introduced on the border of Rostov region with the so-called “lpr” and “dpr” have become known. Therefore, staying and moving in the special zone is possible only with the presence of identity documents. In addition, it is forbidden to stay in the 100m zone without a 12-hour prior notice to the russian Federal Security Service’s border guard department.

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, residents of Rubizhne, which was occupied by russians, complain about the low level of medical care and lack of medicines. It is even harder for families with children. There is not a single paediatrician in the city. To get an appointment with a therapist, you have to stand in a general queue, regardless of age.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

On 21 May, a delegation of representatives of the UN Women Executive Board visited Borodianka to meet with the Ukrainian Women’s Guard. The meeting focused on the organisation’s activities, joint ongoing and future projects. The guests were given a tour and introduced to the organisation’s activities, as well as the space equipped to meet the needs of women in Borodianka community – the UWW HAB Borodyanka. The guests had the opportunity to listen to testimonies of people who survived the russian occupation in Borodianka and talk to local residents who shared their stories of survival and resistance to the enemy.

The RMA reported that almost 21,000 applications have been submitted for the government’s Restoration programme in Kyiv oblast over the year.  The restoration process is ongoing. More than 17,500 facilities have been rebuilt. These include schools, kindergartens, hospitals, critical infrastructure and housing.

The RMA allocated UAH 25m in subventions for the purchase of drones for the 72nd Brigade and another UAH 7m for the purchase of electronic warfare equipment. Last year and in the first quarter of this year, the Kyiv oblast budget allocated a total of over UAH 571 million to support the military. The funds were used to provide logistical support to military formations, security agencies and to implement territorial defence measures.

According to the RMA, due to the power shortage in the power system, stabilisation outage schedules will be applied in Kyiv oblast at the direction of NPC Ukrenerho. On 25 May, power supply restrictions will be in effect from 8:00pm to 10:00pm.

In the evening of 24 May, a rally to support the Georgian people protesting against the adoption of the law on foreign agents was held near the Georgian Embassy in Kyiv. The solidarity action was organised by the Women’s March charity and the Insight NGO. In particular, the protesters chanted slogans such as ‘The Georgian dream is not russia’. 

Zhytomyr oblast

The regional police reported that the wives of police officers shot dead by a russian subversive group in Zhytomyr oblast were handed state awards. Policemen Volodymyr Solodchuk and Ivan Heraiimchuk were killed in action at the beginning of the russian invasion of Ukraine.

Zhytomyr RMA reported that thanks to the efforts of concerned entrepreneurs, the Ukrainian military received a vehicle that will help destroy the enemy. The soldiers also received a drone from the healthcare workers’ union.

Also, according to Zhytomyr RMA, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, more than 830 entrepreneurs from Zhytomyr oblast, including veterans, have received government grants worth almost 

Zhytomyr Community Foundation reports that volunteers from the Netherlands delivered more than a tonne of humanitarian aid to Zhytomyr for internally displaced persons. This includes medical supplies, food, hygiene products, clothes and wheelchairs.

Sumy oblast

The RMA reported that at night and in the morning, russians fired 3 times at Sumy oblast on the territory of Yunakivka, Bilopillia and Krasnopillia communities. There were 7 explosions – 5 artillery strikes, an FPV drone strike and a drop of an HE munition from a UAV.

Over the past day, the russian military attacked 31 times in Sumy oblast – there were 204 attacks using various types of weapons. 12 border communities came under fire: Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia , Richky, Krasnopillia, Miropillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Sloboda, Esman, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda, and Znob-Novhorodske.

Sumy police informed that as a result of russian shelling on 24 May, a residential building caught fire in the region, damaging 2 households and a private truck.

Iryna Yukhta, Acting Head of Krasnopilsk community, reports that 19 residents – 11 children and 8 adults – have been evacuated from the border towns of Mezenivka and Riasne. As of 25 May, 1621 people, 75 of whom are children, are currently residing in the 5-km zone of Krasnopillia community. According to her, evacuees sometimes return to their homes to look after them and do not want to leave their homes. 

Chernihiv oblast

On 24 May, russian troops shelled five villages in Chernihiv oblast. According to the State Border Guard Service, there were 38 mortar and cannon artillery attacks. Novhorod-Siverskaiy, Semenivka and Snovsk communities were under enemy fire.

Recently, another one of 120 recreational centres was opened at Horbachiv forestry as part of the recreation development programme of the State Enterprise ‘Forests of Ukraine’.The new recreation centre is the largest in the region, as well as one of the most modern, comfortable and safe places for recreation in the region. The aim of the project is to ensure safe recreation, as a significant part of the forests along the border is mined, and to protect forests from fires caused by human negligence during recreation.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the oblast council, informs that one of the villages of Pokrovsk community was shelled with artillery. In the morning, the occupiers continued shelling the area. They targeted Marganets and Chervonohryhorivka communities. Three people were injured in Nikopol.

As a result of enemy attacks in the afternoon, men aged 42 and 30 were injured. Another 66-year-old man was hospitalized in moderate condition. In total, there were about one and a half dozen strikes in the area during the day. They fired kamikaze drones and artillery at the regional center and Myrove community. The roof of the store was on fire, industrial and municipal enterprises were damaged. 2 private houses, a workshop, 2 administrative buildings, a warehouse and three cars were affected.

 Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, competitions in adaptive sports “Strong of Ukraine” were held  among veterans and military personnel who were injured and wounded while participating in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. 80 participants came from different cities of Ukraine.

Poltava oblast

On 25 May, the “Spring Run” race was held in Poltava in memory of the fallen defenders of the 116th Brigade of the Territorial Defense. During the event, money was raised to support the aerial reconnaissance unit.

In Kremenchuk, volunteers of the Side by Side charitable foundation make trailers, half-carriages and potbelly stoves for the military. They have been doing this since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. During this time, they made about two thousand potbelly stoves, 153 trailers and five half-carriages.

Cherkasy oblast

In Melnyky, Chyhyryn region, the “Family Cradle of the Defender” festival was held. Relay races and workshops were held for the guests of the holiday, as well as funds were raised for the needs of the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade Kholodnyi Yar.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 24 May, police documented the consequences of 342 enemy strikes on 7 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. There were no injuries or casualties reported.

In Polohy region of Zaporizhzhia oblast, the occupiers deployed 112 UAVs, conducted 203 artillery strikes, launched 25 MRLS attacks and carried out 2 airstrikes.

According to the National Police of Zaporizhzhia oblast, Huliaipole, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne and Malynivka came under russian attack. As a result, some houses were completely destroyed. Most houses suffered shattered windows and roofs blown off by the blast waves.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that russians continue to seize homes and land in the temporarily occupied territories (TOT) of Ukraine. The invaders are demanding the registration of property ownership under “russian law”. In May, the occupiers added over 1,000 properties to the register of “ownerless” property. Each time, they add several hundred apartments and houses.

Adviser to Mariupol Mayor, Petro Andryushchenko, said that russian forces have increased the movement of forces and equipment towards Berdiansk through Mariupol. In the city, there is noticeable movement of dozens of trucks with ammunition and personnel.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, reported that on 24 May at 12:37pm, Kutsurub community came under enemy artillery fire. At 2:36pm and 6:47pm, the enemy conducted mortar shelling targeting the waters of Ochakiv community. There were no casualties reported.

According to the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine in Mykolaiv oblast, pyrotechnicians from the SES are assisting with the demining efforts here. A demining team comprises 9 sappers and 2 GCS-200 mechanized demining vehicles, which significantly reduce the risk of injuries and accelerate the pace of clearing the territories. These operations are currently being conducted in Snihurivka community.

Mykolaiv Mayor, Oleksandr Senkevych, informed that Danish partners have donated 100 sets of football kits and sports equipment for the athletes of the Specialized Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve in football in Mykolaiv.

Odesa oblast

According to Izmail Border Guard Detachment, Oleh Shyksha, Detachment Commander, met with the family of Chief Petty Officer Roman Borshch in Kiliya and was posthumously awarded the medal Defender of the Motherland as per the decree of the President of Ukraine. The award was received by Roman’s father, Anatolii.

Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa RMA, informed that he met with Munir Mamedzadze, Head of UNICEF’s representative office in Ukraine. The discussions covered a range of issues including children’s safety, the restoration of energy infrastructure and addressing the drinking water supply problem in southern Odesa oblast. Emphasizing the importance of children’s safety and education, special attention was given to aid in the construction and reconstruction of shelters in educational institutions. Also, assistance was sought for expanding the school bus fleet to ensure convenient transportation for children from remote villages in oblast. Requests were also made for support in installing water purification systems and drilling wells in Odesa oblast.

Kherson oblast

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on 24 May, the russian military shelled Antonivka, Inzhenerne, Dniprovske, Yantarne, Prydniprovske, Chornobaivka, Komyshany, Poniativka, Beryslav, Zolota Balka, Tyahynka, Burhunka and Kherson.

The enemies targeted residential areas, damaging 8 private houses. There were also hits on communal and port infrastructure, a hotel and a private car. There were no casualties or injuries among residents.

According to Kherson RMA, around 5:25pm, the occupying forces struck Komysh in Kherson oblast, injuring a 54-year-old local woman. She was diagnosed with mine-explosive and craniocerebral injuries and a shrapnel wound to the back of her head. In Stanislav, russian forces dropped an explosive from a drone on a 72-year-old man who was in his yard during the attack. He was hospitalised with mine-explosive and craniocerebral injuries, contusions and shrapnel wounds to his abdomen and forearm.

In Kardashynka on the left bank of Kherson oblast, Ukrainian forces struck a russian convoy with a HIMARS system. The occupiers were attempting to move equipment and personnel. The enemy’s losses are currently being clarified.

Referring to the National Resistance Center, russian forces have forced 240,000 people to exchange their Ukrainian passports for russian documents in Kherson oblast. This is significantly below the kremlin’s plan for forced passportisation of Kherson residents. The occupying authorities are struggling to meet the kremlin’s goals for russian passportisation of Ukrainians in the temporarily occupied territories. The campaign has been particularly unsuccessful in Kherson oblast.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council reported that the community sent 2 Mitsubishi L200, 25 Mavic 3, 20 Mavic 3 T, 4 Mavic 3 E, 60 FPV drones, 16 Ecoflow, 7 Starlink, 4 Avenger Booster, 2 Alientech Duo, 15 Oukitel, 3 chargers Motorola stations, 30 batteries for Motorola radios and 4 batteries for Mavic to the military, namely.

Zakarpattia oblast

The permanent commission of Zakarpattia Regional Council on health care, labour, employment and social protection of the population, social support of war veterans, military personnel and their family members met in the regional council. Members of the commission agreed on the provision of one-time assistance in the amount of UAH 100,000 to the families of deceased residents of Zakarpattia oblast participants in hostilities during the period of martial law in accordance with the Regional Program of Social Support for War Veterans, Servicemen and Their Family Members for 2023-2024, approved by order Zakarpattia RMA.

A delegation from the Czech region of Vysochyna, led by Zdenek Kadlec, Head of the ViZa CF, got acquainted with the construction of a rehabilitation centre for military personnel in Uzhhorod. The 4.5.0. Recovery Centre Project envisages deep renovation of the building and territory of the former maternity hospital in Uzhhorod.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that the community sent FPV drones, folding beds, mattresses, food and other necessary equipment to the military from Ivano-Frankivsk, who serve in military intelligence in Kharkiv oblast.

63 people from families of the killed and war missing from Ivano-Frankivsk community will receive monthly payments in the amount of the subsistence minimum. Since the beginning of the year, such payments have been approved for 598 people.

Lviv oblast

In Zolochiv region, an Alley of Memory was opened with the image of 135 defenders of Brodiv community who were killed due to russian aggression. Families of fallen defenders, military personnel, friends and community representatives took part in the consecration of the Alley.

Memorial plaques were installed in Khodorivska community in memory of Mykola Somyk and Ivan Nikolin. Mykola Somyk was killed on 27 December, 2022, near Bakhmut, Donetsk oblast. The defender was awarded War Veteran, Strong Spirit, For Military Service, For the Defense of the Native State medals and the III degree For Courage Order. Ivan Nikolin was killed on 5 September, 2023 near the settlement of Mala Tokmachka, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Also, during the unveiling of memorial signs, Ivan Nikolin, military serviceman from Strii region, was posthumously awarded the III degree For Courage Order. The award was presented to the family of the fallen soldier.

Rivne oblast

The Council of IDPs at Rivne RMA received 36 appeals from citizens and organisations. IDPs most often apply for household issues, clarifications on payments, and consultations on receiving compensation for destroyed property. There are also requests for assistance in cultural integration, that is, the organisation of events, excursions, etc.

Ternopil oblast

In Ternopil RMA, training on civil protection issues was conducted. People could acquire practical and theoretical skills and perform assigned tasks in the event of a large-scale emergency in the oblast.

18 defenders from Ternopil oblast were awarded III degree For Courage orders (posthumously), For Military Service and the Defender of the Fatherland medals (posthumously).

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The International Atomic Energy Agency conducted another rotation of the personnel of the permanent monitoring mission at the site of Khmelnytsky NPP. Permanent missions of the IAEA at Ukrainian nuclear power plants were introduced in order to monitor the state of nuclear and radiation safety and security at nuclear power plants in the context of russia’s military aggression in Ukraine. The missions include international experts – highly qualified specialists in the field of nuclear energy from IAEA member countries. The placement of the Agency’s missions at all Ukrainian NPPs took place in response to Ukraine’s official request. Another group of international experts will work at the NPP for three weeks, conducting tours and inspections of the premises, equipment, and also interviewing the personnel of the power plant. 

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA held a meeting with representatives of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Areas of cooperation in 2024 were discussed. Creating conditions for comfortable living and IDPs’ integration into the life of communities remains among the priorities.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The US announced another package of military aid to Ukraine worth $275m, including ammunition for HIMARS, 155-mm and 105-mm artillery shells, TOW missiles, Javelin and AT-4 systems, high-precision aviation ammunition, small arms, etc.

Boris Pistorius, Head of the Ministry of Defense of Germany, announced that the country sent an IRIS-T air defence system to Ukraine.

The Netherlands together with partners will purchase equipment for Ukraine for €175m. Kaisa Ollongren, Head of the Ministry of Defense, emphasised that Ukraine needs more resources for air and sea defence.

Ajay Banga, President of the World Bank, stated that the World Bank is ready to manage a fund to help Ukraine if the G7 decides to direct the proceeds from frozen russian assets to it.

Jens Stoltenberg called on NATO to allow Ukraine to strike military targets in russia with Western weapons. The NATO Secretary General emphasised that Ukraine has the right to protection, which also includes strikes on targets on the russian territory.

Elizabeth Trossell, Spokeswoman of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, at a UN briefing in Geneva, reported that as a result of the offensive launched by the russian federation on 10 May in Kharkiv oblast, at least 35 Ukrainian civilians were killed, and another 137 were injured. Among those killed or wounded in the north of Kharkiv oblast, where the fighting was most intense, most of the killed were over 60 years old.
