It has been the 536th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian occupiers launched 2 missiles, 24 air strikes and around 40 MRLS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. The russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians, including children. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were damaged. 

Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and air strikes. There were 24 combat engagements.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes. 

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the enemy fired  mortars and artillery at over 15 settlements, including Halahanivka, Hremiach, Novovasylivka, Chernihiv oblast, Volfyne, Turia, Sumy oblast, and Ohirtseve, Okip, Budarky, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, the russian occupiers conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area northeast of Andriivka, Luhansk oblast. Kamianka, Petropavlivka, Kyslivka, and Berestove, Kharkiv oblast, came under artillery and mortar fire of the adversary.

Towards Lyman, the enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, and Vesele, Donetsk oblast. Over 10 settlements, including Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, Terny, Verkhniokamianske, Serebrianka, Zvanivka, Donetsk oblast, were shelled with artillery.

Towards Bakhmut, the enemy made attempts to regain the lost positions in the areas south of Andriivka and west of Yahidne, Donetsk oblast, to no success. Russian forces launched an air strike in the vicinity of Klischiivka, Donetsk oblast. Over 15 settlements, including Minkivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Bila Hora, Pryvillia, Donetsk oblast  no, suffered from enemy artillery shelling. 

TowardsAvdiivka, under heavy fire from enemy aircraft and artillery, the Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back russian troops’ advance in the vicinity of Avdiivka, Donetsk oblast. Russian forces launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Avdiivka. The invaders fired artillery at Oleksandropil, Stepove, Keramik, Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Mariinka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the russian offensive in the vicinity of the city of Mariinka, Donetsk oblast.

The enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Krasnohorivka, Donetsk oblast. The invaders fired artillery at over 10 settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Mariinka, Novomykhailivka, Kostyantynivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to regain the lost position in the area west of Staromaiorske, Donetsk oblast. They launched air strikes in the vicinities of Blahodatne and Staromaiorske. The invaders fired artillery at over 10 settlements, including Vodyane, Vuhledar, Bohoyavlenka, Zolota Nyva, Staromaiorske, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the enemy attempted to regain the lost position in the area east of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast, to no success. The invaders launched air strikes in the vicinities of Chervone and Piatykhatky, Zaporizhzhia oblast. Russian forces fired artillery at over 15 settlements, including Olhivske, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Mali Scherbaky, Kamianske, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Towards Kherson, the enemy launched an air strike in the vicinity of Zelenyi Hai, Kherson oblast. The enemy artillery shelled over 15 settlements, including Zolota Balka, Veletenske, Stanislav, Komyshany, Novotyahynka, Antonivka, Kherson oblast, the city of Kherson and Ivanivka, Mykolaiv oblast.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct the offensive operation towards Melitopol and Berdiansk axes, consolidate their positions and conduct counter-battery fire.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 10 air strikes on the concentrations of troops, weapons, and military equipment and 4 air strikes on the enemy’s anti-aircraft missile systems.

The Ukrainian missile and artillery troops hit 2 artillery assets at their firing positions, 1 anti-aircraft missile system, 1 electronic warfare station, and 1 asset of enemy air defense.


According to “Children of the War” platform, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, russia has killed 500 children in Ukraine. 1,097 children received injuries of various degrees of severity.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal claims that 5 nuclear power units have been repaired, 4 more are under repair. Also, 62% of thermal power units and 70% of thermal power plants were repaired.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that towards Kupiansk, heavy fighting continues. Yesterday, russian invaders tried to advance near southeast of Synkivka, north of Kyslivka and southeast of Andriivka. Our defenders repelled all enemy attempts to advance and russians suffered losses and retreated to their positions.

Yesterday, border and frontline settlements of Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv, Chuhuiv and Kupiansk regions suffered from enemy shelling. Specifically Kupiansk, Masiutivka, Kyslivka, Berestove, Udy, Strilecha, Hlyboke, Budarky and other settlements were targeted.  There were no casualties.

Yiriy Ihnat, Spokesman of the Air Force, said on Ukrainian Radio that since May, Ukrainian air defense forces have shot down 14 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles fired by russia at Ukraine. The air defense also shot down more than 20 ballistic missiles. According to him, russia produces about 100 missiles of various types, including Kinzhal, every month.

The Kharkiv police press service reported that 190 people, including 105 children, were evacuated from Kupiansk and Kivsharivka on August 12. A woman and her minor granddaughter were evacuated from Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi and handed over to Red Cross volunteers.

Serhii Lobodenko, Head of Chuhuiv Regional Military Administration, informed at a briefing about the assumption of no gas supply to Vovchansk this winter. According to him, preparations are ongoing to purchase fuel wood and generators.

Donetsk oblast

According to Donetsk Regional Military Administration, towards Volnovakha, russians shelled Bohoiavlenka three times and Vuhledar 21 times. In the morning, the enemy launched two air strikes on Blahodatne of Velyka Novosilka community.

Towards Donetsk, Avdiivka was under attack. Residential areas and the territory of Avdiivka Coke Plant were hit.

Towards Horlivka, 1 person was injured and 1 building damaged in Toretsk.

The Ministry of Energy reported that a gas pipeline in Donetsk oblast was damaged by the blast wave. There was a gas leak that was stopped. Due to a drop in pressure in the pipeline, household consumers were temporarily disconnected.

Petro Andriushchenko, Mariupol Mayor’s Councillor, confirmed that seven civilians, two teenage girls, four boys and a woman, were killed in Urzuf as a result of a gunfight between russian invaders on August 11.

Referring to Pokrovsk Regional Military Administration, on 13 August, Vitalii Kints, Head of the 9th State Fire and Rescue Unit of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Donetsk oblast, died in a hospital in Dnipro. The man was injured on  August 7 as a result of a missile attack on Pokrovsk.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the invaders are targeting villages along the frontline. Nevske and Bilohorivka are their daily targets. They have increased air pressure there by launching air strikes. In general, for several weeks now, russians are increasing their presence, trying to push our troops to Luhansk oblast from the frontline areas where we are making progress. Ukrainian defenders are bravely countering all the enemy’s intentions.

Due to multi-million debt for electricity, the mines of Dovzhansk and the surrounding settlements are under the threat of a power cut. Specifically Skhidvuhillia local association has already been disconnected from the power supply. The company has no money to pay, as coal from the mines is exported to russia and no money is received from there. The occupation administration of the city and the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic remain silent.

Sievierodonetsk has a significant problem with salary payments. The occupation authorities receive money regularly but many residents have not received money since 2022. When the first dissatisfied people started to appear earlier this year, few people paid attention to them. But since then, no one bothered to solve the problem. For instance, people who have been employed in the municipal enterprises have not received anything since February. And those, who stayed in Sievierodonetsk and are hoping for a miracle at Azot chemical plant, have been living without money for eight months.

Thanks to the support of Nova Ukraine Charitable Foundation, Lysychansk City Military Administration was able to send 64 children to Bulgaria for medical treatment. These are boys and girls from family-type orphanages, children under guardianship and socially vulnerable categories.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

On August 12, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, met with Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, Chief of the UK Defense Staff, in Kyiv. They discussed the urgent needs of the Ukrainian army, the situation on the battlefield, and the offensive and defensive actions of the Armed Forces. Together with the guest, Valeriy Zaluzhnyi worked at one of the HQs.

NGO “Ukrainian Women’s Guard” conducted self-defense training for women in Borodianka village. It aims to teach women self-defense techniques, unite Ukrainians socially, and provide support and assistance during the war. The lesson consisted of a lecture and exercises. To improve their knowledge and skills, the participants were divided into groups to practice different scenarios, and women also practiced overcoming psychological barriers and fear of resistance.

“School of Physical Therapist” will be opened in Brovary on the basis of the Scientific and Practical Centre for Neurorehabilitation “NODUS” in August. Doctors from all over Ukraine will be trained on methods of treating neurotrauma in wounded military and civilians. The School of Physical Therapist plans to train about 200 specialists free of charge in a year, each of whom will be able to work with an average of 10 injured patients.

This year, the capital will traditionally join the World Cleanup Day. The campaign will run in compliance with martial law restrictions from August 16th to September 16th. According to Kyiv City State Administration, due to the war, members are offered to choose new formats of participation: digital cleaning, creation of a national map of recycling centres, cleaning at nearby or recommended locations, and debris removal.

This week, rescuers visited the UNICEF office in Boryspil and held an educational event for children. The SES specialists taught the children mine awareness and basic life safety rules in a game form.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr oblast continues to implement the state programme “Own Business”, which aims to boost entrepreneurship and stimulate job creation. Positive decisions on grant funding were made for 283 business plans with 624 new jobs offered.

In Zhytomyr, Kherson actors presented a play-documentary about the real life of people under occupation and beyond – “You can’t (not) stay…”. The plot is based on six stories that the actors themselves experienced after the full-scale invasion of Kherson region by russian troops. The actors of the Mykola Kulish Music and Drama Theatre in Kherson came from different cities of Ukraine, where they found themselves after occupation of Kherson and where they are now temporarily living.

Sumy oblast

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, on August 12, the enemy opened fire 5 times at the border areas of the oblast. 49 mortar bombs were fired. Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Nova Sloboda, and Znob-Novhorodske communities were shelled.

The russians attacked Ugroydy village of Krasnopilska community. The shells landed near an apartment building. According to the Regional Military Administration, one apartment was damaged, and windows were smashed in the others as a result of the shelling. There were no casualties.

Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that Ukrainian defenders stopped another enemy attempt to infiltrate Ukrainian territory in Sumy oblast. An enemy sabotage and reconnaissance group consisting of 10 people was detected on August 12 near one of the villages of Znob-Novhorod community. The enemy was forced to withdraw and take away the casualties under heavy fire of our defense forces.

According to the Sumy State Emergency Service, in Okhtyrka and Sumy regions, EOD squads of the State Emergency Service disposed of a 120-mm grenade launcher round and mortar bomb. 

Chernihiv oblast

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that over the past 24 hours, russian troops fired three times from their territory at the border of Chernihiv oblast. In total, there were 21 mortar bombs and AGS rounds launched on the territories of Novhorod-Siversk and Semenivka communities.

The Department of Education of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration reported that 77 kindergartens will not be open in Chernihiv oblast due to their close location to the border with dussia, constant shelling or lack of shelters. In total, there are 406 preschool educational institutions in the oblast. More than 50 of them were destroyed or damaged, with two establishments in Chernihiv and one in Yahidne completely destroyed.

Free summer camp “Through the Universe” was arranged for children of military personnel in Chernihiv. The Children’s Voices charity centre provides individual psychological counselling for children and parents, workshops and training. The shift lasts five days, for each of which the coordinators have developed a programme of activities.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

The russians again have terrorized Nikopol region. They carried out artillery shelling on Nikopol and Chervonohryhorivka community twice. In the afternoon, the russian army launched another heavy artillery attack on Nikopol. The head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, Mykola Lukashuk, reported that a hotel building in the town was damaged, along with two private houses, an outbuilding, and a power line as a result of the attack.

A separate unit of attack drones has been established within Dnipro Territorial Defence Brigade. The unit’s soldiers are deployed to identify targets and carry out strikes against russian troops in Zaporizhzhia sector.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​In two days since the announcement of the online charity marathon “One Million for the Armed Forces” in Vinnytsia, the campaign has already raised UAH 1,000,000. The second phase of the marathon aims to raise two million hryvnias for the purchase of kamikaze drones.

Kirovohrad oblast

The Central Ukrainian Technical University in Kropyvnytskyi has developed a device that can accurately identify the location of damage to power lines.

The project was presented in Kyiv at the Hardware Engineering Hackathon and won the first prize. The team behind the project intends to collaborate with regional power companies to conduct testing of the device.

Soldiers from the 121st Separate Territorial Defence Brigade received assistance from the International Charitable Foundation “Come Back Alive”. The brigade members were provided with four-wheel drive pick-up trucks, quadcopters, generators, tablets for fire adjustment, and other resources to support their activities.

The Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kirovograd Oblast has announced that rescuers from Holovanivsky District Department of the State Emergency Service in Kirovograd oblast have made blood donations to fulfill the requirements of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Poltava oblast

Poltava region is providing assistance in restoration of the villages of Chkalovo and Pravdyne in Kherson region as a part of the Side by Side program. Poltava Regional military administration reported that construction teams are actively engaged in 67 household renovations and have successfully completed repairs on 25 houses.

Cherkasy oblast

Senior soldier Andrii Babinsky, a combat medic from the 80th separate air assault brigade, returned home on a shield. He is also one of co-organisers of the She.Fest Shevchenko Festival, held annually in the village of Taras Shevchenko’s birthplace in the Cherkasy region.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The russian army shelled towns and villages in Zaporizhzhya oblast 114 times Orikhiv, Mala Tokmachka, Novodarivka, Chervone, Olhivske, Huliay Pole and other localities were hit.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that at 17:26 and 18:16, the russian army shelled the waters of Ochakiv community. There were no casualties. 

At 16:00, a fair “Simple as Children” was held at the humanitarian headquarters House of Fleet Officers. The organisers say this is the fourth event, and the project was launched in July 2023. In addition, a concert with the RADIOSTARS band started at 19:00 at the same location. Donations are collected for two purposes: to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine and to support the children’s camp.

Odesa oblast

Serhiy Deyneko, Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, said that on a border sign was installed on Zmiinyi Island to replace the one destroyed by russian soldiers. It was restored on the island by servicemen of the Izmail Border Guard Detachment with the support of colleagues from the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine. The previous one, which stood here before the full-scale invasion, was brazenly destroyed by the occupiers. The next border marker will be installed in our Ukrainian Crimea after its liberation by the Ukrainian Defence Forces.

According to Dmytro Pletenchuk, Spokesman of  Ukrainian Navy, Ukraine has opened registration of merchant ships for use of the temporary corridor in the Black Sea. The corridor will be under the supervision of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to ensure the safety of ships. Shipowners and shipmasters have been warned of potential dangers, in particular from the russian fleet, as well as of the mine danger, which remains high.

The press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that a special redemption of the “Unconquered South” postage stamp dedicated to the guardians of Ukraine’s borders took place in Odesa. The idea belongs to the famous Odesa-based photographer Borys Bukhman, Ukrposhta and border guards. The “Unconquered South” stamps will be available for purchase along with an envelope and cards. The proceeds will be used for the needs of Ukraine’s defenders. 

Kherson oblast

At around 11:30, the russian army shelled residential areas of Kherson with artillery. A multi-storey building was hit, three people were injured, two were hospitalized in serious condition. The prosecutor’s office opened a criminal investigation.

At around 4:30 a.m., the russian army struck Veletynske in Kherson oblast. A 28-year-old man was seriously wounded in shelling. He was diagnosed with 70% burns to his body, and doctors are currently fighting for his life.

Kherson Regional Military Administration said that the russian military shelled Novokaira of Milivska community. A 61-year-old man was injured and hospitalised. 

The russian army also hit a shop in Komyshany. A 49-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman were injured. In Zolota Balka, at least five residential buildings were damaged by russian shelling. A 61-year-old woman was hospitalised with shrapnel wounds.

Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that as of 15:00, nine people were wounded as a result of russian shelling, including two children, a 12-year-old boy and a 23-day-old girl. A 67-year-old resident of Shyroka Balka and pastor of a Christian church in Stanislav was killed. 

Natalia Humenyuk, head of the press centre of the Defence Forces, reported that on the left bank of the Kherson oblast, the Defence Forces destroyed up to 24 pieces of russian army equipment over the past day. Among them are five anti-aircraft guns, four large-calibre guns, and three boats. 

At night, the russian army shelled Naddnipryanske with artillery. In just 24 hours, the russian military attacked the urban community 17 times, with damage recorded in Kherson, Sadove and Antonivka. There were no casualties.

Russian troops shelled more than 25 settlements in Kherson oblast. Shells hit the territory and premises of factories in Kherson and mobile phone towers in Beryslav. Three people were injured.

In Hornostayivka, military patrols and representatives of the commandant’s office of the russian occupation forces are searching houses and abandoned buildings to find deserters.

In Kherson, a high-voltage power line was damaged as a result of shelling by the russian army. Some districts, including the city centre, are currently without electricity. Experts are reconnecting facilities to the backup line to repair the main line.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council held a meeting with representatives of the Suchasna Ukraine CF. The sculptural composition Reunification and creation of a mural dedicated to indomitability of the Ukrainian people were planned to be installed at the fund’s expense.

Zakarpattia oblast

Representatives of the regional council met with Martin Netolitskyi, Hetman of Pardubice region. They discussed a meeting of the Association of Czech Hetmans, which will gather in Zakarpattia to discuss the security situation in the oblast.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The formation of the National Guard and the 102nd separate brigade of the ground defense forces, where residents of the oblast serve, received a car, drones of various names and means of communication worth UAH 1.5 mln. The funds were collected during a charity dinner held in Ivano-Frankivsk on June 30.

19 children of defenders, participants of the Care for the Hero’s Family project, are currently resting in Zakarpattia in the Natalia children’s health camp thanks to the Dream of Children of Ukraine NGO.

Lviv oblast

Three SUVs for soldiers in Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia oblasts were purchased by fellow villagers from Porshna, Lypnyki and Pidsadok of Lviv district. They donated their own funds, in particular during a charity auction.

40 children of military servicemen from Novorozdil community went on vacation in the city of Politsa (Poland) financed by the Polish side.

The mobile medical team of the IQMED clinic together with the Advisory and Coordination Office at the Strii RMA provided medical services to the IDPs of Strii region. 35 people received consultations from a neurologist, endocrinologist and gastroenterologist.

Rivne oblast

The 11th shift of energy workers of Rivneoblenergo PJSC in Kherson oblast has already started. Employees of Dubensk, Mlynivsk and Koretsk precincts are currently in the southern oblast. Since October last year, high-voltage companies put 11 35/10 kV substations into operation and repaired over 110 km of damaged 35 kV substations.

Ternopil oblast

There are still almost 200 free places for the settlement of IDPs in communities in Ternopil oblast. In total, there are currently 76 190 IDPs in the oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Oleksandr Simchyshyn, mayor of Khmelnytskyi, announced that 4 quadcopters of various models with additional batteries and 11 Motorola R7 radio stations were send to one of the local units of the National Guard.

Chernivtsi oblast

Representatives of the region held a working meeting with the management of mayors of Wildpoldsried and Kaufbeuren (Germany), visited a local hospital, an energy-independent village in order to learn from experience.

The RMA reported that next week, Nedoboiv community will receive a truck from Swabia district (Germany), and Mahal orphanage will receive a minibus with a ramp.

In Storozhynets, a round table was held on the Protection of Rights of Women with Disabilities in Conditions of War thanks to the UN Women in Ukraine Structure and the Women’s Fund for Peace and Humanitarian Aid.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Greece joined G7 Joint Declaration in support of Ukraine. This is the 14th country that supported the provision of security guarantees for Ukraine, which will be valid until our accession to NATO.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, announced that Azerbaijan will send demining equipment to Ukraine. According to the president, now 174K square km of the territory of Ukraine is potentially dangerous due to mines and ammunition.

Reuters informs that the Rheinmetall German arms concern decided to send the Luna New Generation unmanned aerial system to Ukraine by the end of the year. The publication noted that the drone package consists of a ground control station with several drones, a launch catapult and military trucks.

Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Jake Sullivan, US President’s national security advisor. They discussed priority defense needs of Ukraine.

Robert Golob, Prime Minister of Slovenia, met Ukrainian rescuers who went to the country to participate in liquidation of the consequences of the flood. 51 emergency rescuers, five excavators and another 14 vehicles arrived in the country to clear rubble and eliminate the consequences of floods in the Upper Savigny valley.
