It has been the 533rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

During the day, the enemy launched 3 missile and 49 air strikes, fired 36 times from multiple rocket launchers at Ukrainian troops’ positions and settlements. Unfortunately, russian terrorist attacks have resulted in civilian casualties and injuries. 

There is still a high threat of missile and air strikes across Ukraine.

About 25 combat engagements took place during the day.

The situation towards Volyn and Polissia remained unchanged.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the enemy launched airstrikes near Stepne and Kostiantynivka in Sumy oblast. There were mortar and artillery shells fired at more than 20 settlements, including Kliusy, Bleshnia, and Karpovychi in Chernihiv oblast; Popivka, Tymofiivka, Stukalivka in Sumy oblast and Udy, Hurev Kozachok, Odnorobivka, Strilecha, Okhrymivka in Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupyansk, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the vicinity of Nadiya and south of Novoselivske in Luhansk oblast. More than 10 settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Kamianka, Dvorichna, Zakhidne, Kindrashivka, Holubivka, and Kupiansk in Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Lyman, the enemy conducted airstrikes near Bilohorivka in Luhansk oblast and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk oblast. Nevske and Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Torske, Spirne and Rozdolivka in the Donetsk oblast were subjected to enemy artillery fire.

Towards Bakhmut, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the vicinity of Bohdanivka. More than 10 settlements suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Vasiukivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Predtechine in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Avdiivka, under heavy fire from enemy aircraft and artillery, our defenders continue to hold back the russian offensive in the Avdiivka area. The enemy launched an airstrike near Sievierne.  More than 10 settlements came under artillery fire, including Oleksandropil, Novokalynove, Novoselivka Persha, Avdiivka, and Sievierene in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Marinka, Ukrainian defense forces continue to hold back the russian offensive near the town of Marinka, Donetsk oblast. More than 10 settlements came under artillery fire, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Paraskoviivka and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the enemy made unsuccessful attempts to regain the lost position near Staromaiorske. He also conducted an airstrike there. Vodiane, Vuhledar, Bohoyavlenka, Prechystivka, Velyka Novosilka, Blahodatne in Donetsk oblast came under artillery fire.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the enemy conducted an airstrike near Mala Tokmachka, Zaporizhzhia oblast.  More than 15 settlements came under artillery fire, including Olhivske, Chervone, Huliaipole, Piatikhatky, Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia oblast and Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk oblast.

Towards Kherson, the enemy conducted an air strike in the Kozatske area of Kherson region. More than 20 settlements were shelled by the enemy, including Zolota Balka, Respublikanets, Chervonyi Mayak, Shliakhove, Kozatske, Antonivka and Veletenske in Kherson oblast and Kherson; Kutsurub, Ochakiv, and Dmytrivka in Mykolaiv oblast.

Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct offensive operations towards Melitopol and Berdiansk, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery operations.

Ukrainian aviation of the defense forces carried out 10 strikes on buildups of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 2 on the enemy’s anti-aircraft missile system.

Our defenders also destroyed 7 enemy attack UAVs of the Shahed-136 type.

Rocket and artillery units destroyed 4 artillery pieces at firing positions, 1 buildup of personnel, weapons and military equipment, 1 electronic warfare station and 1 enemy communication center.

Energoatom reported that power was lost from the main high-voltage line of the Zaporizhzhya NPP. The power plant was switched to the only available 330 kV backup line. The station is on the verge of another blackout. 

Iryna Vereshchuk, Minister for Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, says that since the start of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has returned at least 380 illegally deported children. As of July 31, 2023, russia has deported 19,546 children from Ukraine to russia. These are only the cases that have been officially recorded.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, informed that last night around midnight, a 41-year-old civilian man and a 39-year-old woman were injured as a result of shelling in Kindrashivka village, Kupiansk region.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, added that at midnight, the enemy attacked Kupiansk with FAB-250 guided bombs. The city council building was damaged. In the morning, russians shelled Kupiansk again, damaging a building.

Yesterday russian forces massively shelled settlements of Bohodukhiv, Kharkiv, Chuhuiv, Izium and Kupiansk regions with guided bombs and other weapons.

Based on the information provided by Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, mandatory evacuation was announced in Kupiansk region. The decision was made due to the constant shelling and the growing level of danger in the region.

Yesterday pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service defused 92 explosive ordnance.

Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian troops repelled enemy attacks near Synkivka and Ivanivka. The invaders suffered losses.

Donetsk oblast

Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday russian invaders killed 3 civilians: 2 in Zarichne and 1 in Chasiv Yar. Another 4 people were injured in the region over the day. In addition, 6 more people were injured as a result of a strike on Pokrovsk on 7 August.

According to Donetsk RMA, towards Volnovakha, russians shelled Bohoiavlenka 3 times and Vuhledar 23 times with artillery.

Towards Donetsk, one person was injured in Kurakhivka. There were isolated attacks on Avdiivka and Krasnohorivka. 

Towards Horlivka, in Chasiv Yar 1 person was killed, 2 buildings and 2 industrial buildings damaged. In Mykolaivka, Kostiantynivka community, 1 person was injured. In Toretsk community, the shelling burnt out dry grass on a 4 hectare field.

Towards Lysychansk, 2 people were killed in Zarichne, Lyman community. A building in Zvanivka and a building in Siversk were damaged.

Luhansk oblast

Serhii Cherevatyi, Spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that the enemy tried to attack Ukrainian positions four times near Ivanivka and Novoselivka yesterday. Also russian troops launched 559 artillery strikes towards Kupiansk-Lyman, there were 16 air raids.

Referring to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Nevske and nearby villages were under attack. However, despite the danger and logistics complicated by the enemy, residents of the de-occupied settlements continue to receive fresh bread, other food and hygiene products.

Luhansk RMA added that in order to increase the turnout rate at the so-called ‘first elections’, a decision was made to hold early voting at polling stations outside the occupied territory of Luhansk oblast. In other words, in different regions of the russian federation, people with registration in Luhansk oblast will elect not the country’s leadership but ‘deputies of the people’s council of luhansk people’s republic’, a few days before the election day.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Head of Kyiv RMA, Ruslan Kravchenko announced that russia attacked the oblast with Shahed type drones at night – no damage or casualties were reported. The air alert lasted more than three hours, air defense was on alert.

In August, the capital plans to conduct staff training to check the stability of the city’s life support system during a possible blackout. As reported by KCMA, the authorities have worked out 15 scenarios in case of emergency situations during the heating season, in particular, scenarios of actions in case of damage to infrastructure facilities. Repairs and preparations of the heating season are planned to be completed by October 1.

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that 83% of preschool education institutions and 91% of general secondary education institutions in the city are equipped with shelters. This year, additional shelters are planned to be arranged in 437 educational institutions. Facilities that do not currently have shelters are entering into agreements with nearby facilities that have shelters with sufficient space.

Oleksandr Markushyn, Mayor of Irpin, announced that houses destroyed by the russian army are being demolished with the help of equipment provided by the Japan Agency for International Cooperation. The United Nations Development Program financed the demolition of 140 private houses and provided equipment to remove construction debris. According to him, 1,5 K houses in the city need to be dismantled and removed.

Over UAH 152 million will be paid to the owners of damaged housing in Kyiv oblast under the eRecovery program. As of August 7, 7,218 applications have already been submitted in Kyiv oblast, and 52 commissions created to process them. The received money can be spent on building materials or contractor services in stores and companies participating in the project.

Anatolii Fedoruk, Mayor of Bucha said that Bucha and the Norwegian Sannes became sister cities and signed a cooperation agreement. This is the first collaboration with a Norwegian municipality in Kyiv oblast and the first Scandinavian partner city for Bucha. Future cooperation in the field of culture, education and youth exchange was discussed with new partners.

Zhytomyr oblast

Residents of Zhytomyr oblast were reminded that visiting forests is allowed throughout the region, except for forests located in a strip 30 kilometers deep from the state border line bordering Belarus, as well as in territories that were temporarily occupied by the russian army. This decision was taken by the defense council of Zhytomyr oblast.

For more than a month, a group of pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service from Zhytomyr oblast has been working on the de-occupied territory of Kherson oblast. As reported in the regional military administration, this is already the fourth rotation of explosives technicians in the liberated South – they help farmers in demining fields, respond to current requests from the local population, inspect power lines.

Zhytomyr City Council reported that 4 streets and 16 lanes with the names related to the soviet period or those of russian figures will be renamed. 

Rescuers of the State Emergency Service arranged a game-training for children in Zhytomyr. 60 children resting in day summer camps of the city’s cultural and sports center learned the rules of life safety.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported  that the russians carried out 15 shelling attacks on the border. The communities of Krasnopillia, Bilopillia, Velika Pyysarivka, Nova Sloboda and Seredino-Buda came under shelling. The enemy attacked with mortars, grenade launchers and artillery.

At night and in the morning, the enemy carried out 4 attacks on the border. A total of 28 explosions were recorded: 26 from mortars and 2 from artillery. Khotyn, Krasnopillia, Znob-Novhorodske, Seredino-Buda communities came under shelling.

Sumy RMA reported that more than 900 power facilities have been damaged and destroyed in the oblast to date. Some objects located in the 20-kilometer border zone were damaged several times.

Sumy RMA reported that more than 130 children and about 2 K adults were evacuated from the five-kilometer border zone of the oblast.

According to the decision of the Headquarters of Territorial Defense of Konotop region, in the 30-kilometer border strip of Sumy oblast, it was forbidden to use motorcycles in the dark. The ban applies to Nova Sloboda community, the town of Putivl, and partly to Buryn community.

Chernihiv oblast

SBGS reported that russians shelled 6 times the border of Chernihiv oblast from their territory. In total, border guards recorded 62 mortar strikes on Snovsk and Semenivka communities.

Chernihiv RMA reported that they are planning to build a new stadium with funds from the state budget on the site of the one destroyed by russian bombings on March 11, 2022. Currently, funds have been allocated for estimates and project documentation.

Farmers of Chernihiv oblast can receive winter rapeseed for free. Such support is provided by the US Government through the USAID AGRO Program as part of the AGRI-Ukraine initiative. Participants must be registered as legal entities or individual entrepreneurs and cultivate from 5 to 500 hectares.

In Chernihiv oblast, for the first time, a decision has been made to receive a grant for veterans who develop their own business. The grant will be received by the wife of a combatant to start the production of compound feed. The woman will spend the money on the purchase of equipment and raw materials.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reports that the occupiers launched three artillery attacks on Nikopol region, targeting the Myrove, Marhanets, and Chervonohryhorivka communities. The assaults resulted in damages to six houses, a garage, a car, and a gas pipeline. Throughout the day, the occupiers conducted three attacks on Nikopol region. Nikopol itself was subjected to two artillery bombardments, resulting in damage to five residential buildings and three outbuildings. Another attack was aimed at the Myrove community.

Vinnytsia oblast

Serhii Morhunov, Mayor of Vinnytsia, reported that in the recent exchange on August 7, two residents of Vinnytsia region, Oleksandr from Teplyk and Serhii from Dashev, returned home from russian captivity.

An impressive amount of UAH 800 K was raised in nearly six months through a raffle organized by volunteer Bohdan Trotsenko, who offered his own SUV as the prize. The winner of the car was a soldier known by the pseudonym “Sievas” and his unit.

Kirovohrad oblast

Kropyvnytskyi Central Regional Hospital received assistance from French volunteers, including transforming beds, rehabilitation equipment, etc.

Poltava oblast

The Executive Committee of the Kremenchuk City Council has approved the allocation of UAH 1 million from the Stabilization Fund to support the communities in Kherson oblast that have been impacted by the russian blast at the Kakhovka HPP dam. This assistance is being provided within the framework of the Presidential Side by Side campaign. The allocated funds, in the form of subventions, will be directed towards Bilozerska and Velyka Oleksandrivka communities.

Cherkasy oblast

The Head of Cherkasy Oblast met with the USAID Economic Program team. During the meeting, the participants discussed areas of further cooperation. In particular, they discussed assistance to companies that focus on processing and exporting.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yurii Malashko, Head of Zaporizhzhya Regional Military Administration, reported that at around 6 pm, on August 10, the russian army struck a civilian infrastructure facility in Zaporizhzhia. Two multi-storey buildings, a medical and educational institution were damaged. One person was killed and 9 injured.

Anatolii Kurtev, Secretary of Zaporizhzhia City Council said that as a result of the shelling of Zaporizhzhia by the russian army on August 10, 15 high-rise buildings were damaged by the blast wave – more than 400 apartments reported broken windows and damaged balconies. Work to eliminate the consequences is ongoing.

The National Police reports that the russian military used X-35 missiles to launch the attack on Zaporizhzhia on August 10. 

As a result of the shelling of Huliaipole in Zaporizhzhia oblast by the russian military, a family was injured: two women aged 55 and 66 and two men aged 39 and 68. 

According to Yurii Malashko, Head of Zaporizhzhya Regional Military Administration, three people were killed: a 43-year-old man and two women aged 19 and 21. 9 people, including an 11-month-old child, were injured as a result of yesterday’s russian army strike in Zaporizhzhia. 

Energoatom reported that at night, Zaporizhzhya NPP lost power from the main external power line, it was switched to the only available backup line.

The russian military carried out 82 attacks on 21 settlements in Zaporizhzhya oblast. 68 artillery attacks took place on the territory of Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Novodarivka, Levadne, Bilohirya, Chervone, Stepnohirsk, Stepove, Plavne, Mali Shcherbaki, Pyatikhatki, Lobkove and Kamianske.

Near the temporarily occupied Melitopol, the bodies of russian servicemen are being cremated in the open almost continuously, brought by the occupiers in trucks.  Thus, the command of the russian troops is trying to hide their real losses.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reports that on August 9, russian occupiers fired twice on Mykolaiv oblast. Hostile artillery shelling was recorded in the waters of Ochakiv community at 10:38 a.m. Additionally, on the same day, at 22:10, artillery shelling targeted Kutsurub community. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.

On August 9, the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine introduced a project in Mykolaiv that highlights russian war crimes against media workers. The documentary project named “Freedom of Speech Shot” was developed in collaboration with the Swedish human rights organization Civil Right Defenders. Lina Kushch, the first secretary of the NUJU, stated that this project is a compilation of stories from over a hundred media workers who have suffered due to the full-scale invasion by russia.

Odesa oblast

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has supplied Odesa region with 24 generators ranging from 5 kW to 15 kW in capacity. The RMA press service reported that this contribution aims to enhance the power supply and ensure the uninterrupted functioning of crucial infrastructure facilities. 

Izmail City Council has officially transferred 1282 backpacks and an equal number of stationery sets from UNICEF to the inventory of municipal educational institutions. Each of the thirteen institutions will receive a varying number of gift sets, ranging from 12 to 260.

There have been numerous instances of explosive detonations in the sea along the Odesa coast. The threat of underwater mines persists and, unfortunately, has intensified. The aftermath of the Kakhovka HPP explosion caused floods, introducing several “dangerous surprises” through the water flow. Some of these objects are still either floating or lying on the seabed, potentially susceptible to being moved by storms. Since the commencement of 2023, a total of 32 mines have been detonated in the Black Sea, spanning both Odesa and Mykolaiv oblasts. Furthermore, riverine mines have entered the Black Sea. Given these concerns, the military and environmentalists are not supportive of the idea to reopen beaches to the residents of Odesa and the surrounding region.

Kherson oblast

Today, on August 10, the russian army shelled Bilozerka in Kherson oblast with artillery, hitting people receiving humanitarian aid. Six residents were injured and hospitalized.

In the morning, on August 10, russian troops shelled Beryslav. A private house was on fire. Rescuers extinguished the fire on an area of 40 square meters. There were no casualties.

On the left bank of Kherson oblast, despite the pressure of the russian army on people, they are reluctant to take russian passports. Therefore, in the upcoming pseudo-elections, residents were allowed to vote with any document. It is difficult to calculate how many people are currently in the occupied territory due to limited information.

Hanna Malyar, Deputy Defense Minister, reports that in the temporarily occupied Pervomayivka, Kherson oblast, the russian military are urgently equipping a prison in the building of a food base. The area around the construction site is guarded by military police officers. The russian occupiers are doing this to intensify repressions against the civilian population and conceal their activities.

Over the past day, russian troops attacked Kozatske from the air and used artillery to attack more than 25 settlements. In particular, Mykhailivka, Chervonyi Maiak, Olhivka, Prydniprovske, Berehove, Stanislav and Kherson.

On August 9, the russian army fired 65 times at Kherson oblast. They hit residential areas, a kindergarten, warehouses of a utility company, garages of an outpatient clinic and power lines. They also hit the territory of a hospital in Beryslav region. Two people were injured.

A 16-year-old girl who was seriously injured on July 31 during the shelling of Korabelny district of Kherson by the russian army died on August 9 in hospital.

Kherson RMA reported that a diesel generator provided by philanthropists was launched in Pervomaiske village. The equipment has a capacity of 40 kilowatts and is able to ensure stable operation of the centralized water supply system. Residents of the settlement will have drinking water even despite possible power outages.

A medical facility in Kherson oblast received equipment including an ultrasound machine, two specialized medical beds, syringes, needles and medical containers. The humanitarian aid was delivered to the hospital by volunteers of the City of Strength NGO. Thanks to the financial support of the Finnish volunteer organization Apua Ukrainaan, a number of hospitals have already received assistance.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The oblast is rebuilding the village of Blahodativka of Kalyniv community as a part of the Side by Side presidential initiative. Volunteers from Volyn are also helping to eliminate the consequences after the explosion of the Kakhovka HPP. Together with the necessary equipment, 30 qualified construction workers left for Kherson.

The RMA reported that Pidhaitsivsk, Kivertsivsk and Tsumansk communities sent tractors and excavators to Kherson oblast.

Zakarpattia oblast

Over 120 soviet monuments have been dismantled in Zakarpattia oblast within the framework of decolonization. Another 79 monuments, which are symbols of russian or soviet policy, are subject to demolition.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that the oblast signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hyogo Prefecture (Japan).

Prykarpattia received UAH 20 mln in state subsidies for the construction of 3 shelters. 30% of the necessary funds will be provided from local budgets.

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council allocated UAH 20K each to buy equipment for the fighters. Another 400 combatants will receive these payments at a total cost of UAH 8 mln. In total, since the beginning of the program, assistance has been allocated to 425 fighters for a total amount of UAH 8,5 mln.

Lviv oblast

Brody received humanitarian aid in particular chainsaws, motors, jackhammers, saw chains, overalls for volunteer firemen, for communal enterprises of the community, from the German partner city of Bendorf

In Strii region, a mobile team of the Right to Protection Charitable Fund in cooperation with the Advisory and Coordination Office of Strii RMA registered 37 people to provide financial assistance from the UNHCR.

The 103rd Separate Territorial Defense Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the 105th and 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigades of the Airborne Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 4 vehicles equipped with drones from Drohobych region.

The RMA awarded winners of the regional contest of journalistic works named after the Hero of Ukraine Taras Matviiv. During the award ceremony, one of the winners, Halyna Soroka, said that she wants to donate the funds won to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Rivne oblast

The RMA reported that at night, Rivne oblast was subjected to a massive attack by drones. They destroyed an oil depot in Duben region. There are no victims. 45 rescuers and 14 pieces of equipment are working at the scene. The fire train is involved. Investigators are also working. The chemical and radiation background is normal. Evacuation of the population will not be applied.

The Security Service of Ukraine has started a criminal investigation into the shelling of an oil depot in Rivne oblast. Previously, the enemy used Geran-2 drones. Necessary investigative actions are currently underway.

The RMA reported that the oblast received a state subsidy of UAH 78,363 K to construct shelters.

In Rivne oblast, the project Support for Strategic Planning of the Development of Territorial Communities of Rivne, Zhytomyr and Poltava oblasts was launched, in which 28 communities participated. Among them are 9 from Rivne oblast. The project is being implemented by the Endspil NGO and the USAID Hoverla Project.

Ternopil oblast

Today, there are 76 190 IDPs in Ternopil oblast, of which 1 912 people live in 72 institutions of the oblast (education, health care, social protection, dormitories, sanatoriums). 211 disabled and elderly IDPs live in institutions of the social protection system. Today, there are 450 (of which 199 are free) free places for IDPs in communities of the oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that at night, during the air alert, Khmelnytskyi oblast was again under attack. Explosions were heard in the oblast. Air defense forces were on alert.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA reported that Chernivtsi oblast will receive almost UAH 29 mln in state subsidies to repair 3 facilities with shelters.

For employees of Storozhynetsk City Council, a training was held on the prevention of emotional and professional burnout thanks to the Coordinating Council on Mental Health at Chernivtsi RMA. The training was conducted by psychologists of the World of the Future CF.

The RMA reported that young volunteers from Vyzhnytskyi region were awarded certificates by Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The German government reported that the country sent 2 more launchers of the Patriot air defense system, artillery smoke ammunition, binoculars and tactical glasses to Ukraine.

Estonia provided Ukraine with 150 units of small arms and ammunition for them.

The German government published on the official website that Ukraine will also receive from the country: 10 Bandvagn 206 tracked all-terrain vehicles, 6K 155 mm shells, 4 Vector reconnaissance drones, 6 8×8 HX81 tractors and 5 semi-trailers, 100 MG5 machine guns, 40K first-aid kits.

The US Treasury Department reported that the country introduced new sanctions against belarus. 8 individuals in belarus and 5 organizations were added to the sanctions list, and the use of one aircraft was blocked.

Representatives of the Office of the President of Ukraine held a video conference of representatives of the military and political leadership of Ukraine and the US. The situation at the front and defense cooperation were discussed.

The Independent British publication interviewed Olena Zelenska, First lady of Ukraine. They discussed the terrible consequences of russian aggression, killed and wounded, over 19K children abducted by russia and over 200 cases of rape of Ukrainians by the russian military, which are being investigated by prosecutors, etc.

Mariusz Blaszczak, Minister of Defense of Poland, announced that the country plans to increase the number of troops on the border with belarus to 10K. About 10K soldiers will be stationed at the border, of which 4K will directly support the border service, and 6K will be in reserve.
