It has been the 793rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 26 April , there were 79 tactical engagements.

The enemy launched a total of 1 missile and 67 air strikes, 67 MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes. No signs of enemy offensive groups being formed were found.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army maintains its military presence in the areas bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. The adversary’s air strikes targeted the city of Sumy and the vicinities of Volfyne (Sumy oblast), Derhachi, Vysoka Yaruha, Lyptsi, Ohirtseve, and Vodyane (Kharkiv oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 20 settlements, specifically Khrinivka, Yeline, Huta-Studenetska, Lubiane, Buchky (Chernihiv oblast), Prohres, Starykove, Bilopillia, and Bilovody (Sumy oblast).

Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian troops repelled 7 attacks in the vicinities of Kyslivka, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast), and Stelmakhivka (Luhansk oblast). The russian army launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Pishchane and Hlushkivka (Kharkiv oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10 settlements, specifically Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Stepova Novoselivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 9 attacks in the vicinities of Serebrianka forestry (Luhansk oblast), Terny, and south of Zarichne (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, specifically Makiivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Yampolivka, and Torske (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, Ukrainian troops repelled 8 attacks in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Vyimka, Spirne, and Ivanivske (Donetsk oblast). The enemy attempted to improve its tactical position in that area. Also, they launched airstrikes in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements, specifically Hryhorivka, Kalynivka, and Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Avdiivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled 23 attacks in the vicinities of Arkhanhelske, Keramik, Ocheretyne, Semenivka, Umanske, and Kalynove (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the enemy attempted to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions in that area. Also, the russian army launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Novobakhmutivka and Memryk (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements, including Keramik, Arkhanhelske, and Soloviove (Donetsk oblast) were shelled.

Towards Novopavlivka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the vicinities of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Prechystivka, and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the invaders made 12 attempts to breach Ukrainian defense in that area. The enemy launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Paraskoviivka and Kostiantynivka (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast), were under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Orikhiv, with the air support, the occupiers launched 3 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast) and Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 20 settlements, including Chervone, Bilohiria, and Kamianske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Kherson, the enemy has not abandoned its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. For instance, on April 26, the invaders launched 3 unsuccessful attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops near Krynky (Kherson oblast). The enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Tomaryne (Kherson oblast). Around 20 settlements, including Tyahynka, Ivanivka, Novotyahynka, Bilozerka, Veletenske, Kizomys, and Tokarivka (Kherson oblast) were shelled.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched airstrikes on 11buildups of the russian invaders’ troops.

Ukrainian Missile Forces hit 2 buildups of enemy troops, 1 radar station, 3 air defense systems, 1 electronic warfare station, and 1 materiel supply depot.

Referring to the Coordination Center for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Ukraine managed to return the bodies of 140 fallen soldiers. The bodies of 112 soldiers who fought from Donetsk sector, 20 fallen soldiers from Luhansk sector, 5 from Sumy sector, 2 from Zaporizhzhia sector and one from Kherson sector.

Kyiv City State Administration informs that in Kyiv, two hospitals, one of which is a children’s hospital, are being urgently evacuated due to information on social media about a possible russian attack on these medical facilities. This decision was made after the head of the KGB of Belarus stated that there were military personnel in these hospitals.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that three children were injured as a result of hostile attacks on Derhachi, Kharkiv region. The invaders targeted downtown, preliminary, with guided aerial bombs. The girls aged 16 and 5 received medical aid on the spot, without being hospitalised. A 4-year-old boy and a 532-year-old woman received light injuries and an acute stress reaction. They did not need to be hospitalised. A two-storey building caught on fire as a result of a guided aerial bomb strike.

At 12:30pm, two local volunteers were injured as a result of an enemy drone hitting their car in Sotnytskyi Kozachok village, Bohodukhiv region: a 56-year-old man and his 54-year-old wife. Their 18-year-old son also sought medical assistance. The shelling was right after the delivery of humanitarian aid to the villagers.

Serhii Kryvetchenko, Deputy Head of Lyptsi community, said that russian troops hit Lyptsi twice. According to him, the impact of the strikes is being established.

Vitalii Karabanov, Head of Balakliia CMA, reported that two injured remain in hospital after a russian strike on the railway station. According to him, the passengers of the train, near which the russian missile hit, travelled to Izium by bus. The aftermath of the strike is currently being fixed in Balakliia. The press service of Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office said that the number of people injured in the missile attack has risen to 13. Two more people have sought medical help on their own today.

There were no attacks on Kharkiv yesterday.

About 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks yesterday: Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane and others. Udy, Lyptsi, Male Vesele, Pletenivka, Okhrimivka, Vodiane and Borova were hit by airstrikes.

At 5:25pm, a house was damaged as a result of hostile shelling of Borova village, Izium region, by MRLs.

At 5:05pm, Balakliia city of Balakliia community, Izium region, was targeted.  As a result of the rocket attack, the windows, roof of the railway station building and the tracks of the suburban electric train Kharkiv-Izium, which was 15m away from the arrival point, were damaged. 7 civilian men and 4 women were injured.

At 12pm, 4 private houses and adjacent buildings were damaged as a result of the drop of 3 KABs on the territory of a garden society in Hlyboke village, Kharkiv region.

On 25 April at 10:30am, a house and an outbuilding were damaged and two women aged 73 and 60 injured as a result of hostile shelling by MRLs in Novoosynove village, Kupiansk region.

Yesterday the enemy attacked our positions 10 times near Berestove and Kyslivka towards Kupiansk.

78 children with their families were evacuated from certain settlements of Bohodukhiv, Izium and Kharkiv regions: Zolochiv community – 15; Borova community – 4; Derhachi community – 29; Lyptsi community – 30.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 40.67 hectares of territory and destroyed 530 explosive ordnance.

Donetsk oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the Ukrainian military repelled 95 russian attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. The occupation forces stormed Avdiivka and Bakhmut fronts, where russia is trying to finally capture Ocheretyne and is seeking to do the same with Chasiv Yar. At the same time, the russian army resumed attacks near Stelmakhivka, which is on the border of Luhansk and Kharkiv oblasts.

Commander of 92nd Brigade Yurii Fedorenko informed about the situation towards Bakhmut as of 26 April saying that heavy fighting continues on the outskirts of Chasiv Yar and the russian army continues to try to encircle the town.

Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group, confirmed that Ukrainian troops control more than half of Ocheretyne. The temporarily occupied part of the village is under the “fire control” of the Ukrainian Defence Forces. He added that the temporarily occupied part of Ocheretyne is under the fire control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and russian invaders are storming Bohdanivka and Ivanivske near Chasiv Yar around the clock. The russian army has been trying to encircle the town for the last 7 days without success.

The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 26 April is as follows:

Towards Pokrovsk, 3 people were injured in Krasnohorivka. 1 person was killed in Ocheretyne. In Kurakhove community, 1 person was killed in Kurakhivka and 1 injured in Hirnyk, and 8 private houses were damaged in Hostre. In Udachne, 3 people were killed and 4 injured, an administrative building, a cultural institution, a coffee shop and more than 20 private houses damaged.

Towards Kramatorsk, two houses were damaged in Yampil of Lyman community. The enemy dropped a KAB-250 on Kostiantynivka and fortunately, the bomb did not explode, sappers defused it.

Towards Bakhmut, 8 private houses, an apartment building and 3 industrial buildings were damaged in Chasiv Yar. A house was damaged in Serebrianka of Siversk community.

In total, russians attacked settlements in Donetsk oblast 10 times over the day. 106 people, including 12 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that yesterday russians killed 5 civilians: 3 in Udachne, 1 in Kurakhivka and Ocheretyne. Another 8 people were injured in the oblast over the day.

41 children from Donetsk oblast will undergo social rehabilitation and recreation in Prykarpattia at the Kosiv sanatorium in the lowland climate resort area in the valley of the Rybnytsia River. Since the beginning of the year, about 200 children have improved their health under this project.

Luhansk oblast

The resident of Makiivka, who agreed to leave yesterday, will live in Poltava oblast. Krasnorichensk Military Administration is providing her with all the necessary assistance. A resident of Nevske asked to restore her lost documents. She was accompanied to Sloviansk, where she is receiving the necessary consultations. Every issue of people from the de-occupied territories is being solved.

Luhansk police also delivered and distributed food, hygiene kits and drinking water to residents of Makiivka but russians shelled it by mortars and artillery. Hrekivka also suffered from enemy attack.

The enemy attacks were repelled from Stelmakhivka, Makiivka, Serebrianka forestry and Bilohorivka.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that starting in September, all schools in the so-called “lpr” will introduce a course on UAV control. Officially, UAVs will be taught in specialised clubs, but attendance will be compulsory. The russian military will be involved as mentors.

Also russians declared almost 100 mines out of 114 in the east unprofitable. A significant number of these enterprises were brought to disappointing economic performance by the invaders themselves. Not only by their lack of desire to invest in the development of the sector, but also through forced mobilisation. In total, almost 60% of miners were mobilised in the temporarily occupied territories.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to Kyiv City State Administration, two hospitals located on Bohatyrska Street, one of which is a children’s hospital, were evacuated. The reason for the evacuation is an announced enemy attack on these hospitals spread in the online media, based on the false allegation that there are military personnel in these hospitals. This is an enemy provocation, used to target the social infrastructure of the capital.

Bucha City Council reported that two Mavic 3T drones and three Mavic 3 drones were sent to the fighters of the 24th separate assault battalion Aidar.  The drones are equipped with high-quality cameras and can provide clear video surveillance both day and night.

Zhytomyr oblast

The press service of the AFU Airborne Assault Forces reports that almost two hundred students of the final grades of Khoroshiv and Novoboriv territorial communities of Zhytomyr oblast took up combat weapons for the first time under the supervision of instructors of the 46th separate airmobile brigade of the Airborne Assault Forces.

Zhytomyr RMA announces the delivery of 10 FPV drones, some of which are equipped with thermal imaging devices, to one of the airborne units that perform combat missions in all hotspots. 

Sumy oblast

According to Sumy RMA, russians fired on the border areas of Sumy oblast 5 times with 41 explosions recorded at night and in the morning. Krasnopillia, Seredyna-Buda and Znob-Novhorodske communities were shelled.  In Znob-Novhorodske community, the enemy fired from artillery (28 explosions), in Seredyna-Buda community, there was artillery shelling (5 explosions), and in Krasnopillia community, russians fired from artillery (6 explosions) and mortars (2 explosions).

Due to the eRestoration programme in Sumy oblast, 30 apartments and 14 buildings have been restored, 1862 residents of the oblast received compensation for damaged property.

Sumy RMA also reported about an air strike launched on an industrial facility in Sumy, with the use of 2 UAVs. 

The enemy also carried out an artillery attack on the town of Bilopillia, Sumy region with 5 explosions recorded. Preliminary, one woman was killed and four people wounded in the shelling. The shelling damaged the premises of a medical facility, multi-storey and private houses, a shopping center, a bank building, garages, cars, and a tractor.

Chernihiv oblast

Halyna Shekhovtsova, Spokesperson for Chernihiv border guard detachment, reported that russians attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast – Semenivka, Novhorod-Siverskyi, Snovsk and Horodnia – with about 50 explosions. In Semenivka community, there were 13 explosions recorded near Leonivka, 3 explosions near Lubiane village, 2 explosions near Karpovychi and 1 explosion in Zarichchia village.

In Novhorod-Siverskyi community, there were 6 explosions near Hremyach, 12 explosions near Senkivka of Horodnia community, 6 explosions near Plykhy of Snovsk community, and 3 explosions near Mistky village.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the enemy attacked Nikopol region three times, launching 2 kamikaze drones at the region’s centre in the evening, and firing at Marhanets community with artillery. A 9-year-old boy, an 18-year-old girl and a 42-year-old man were injured in the region’s centre as a result of enemy shelling. In total, the enemy attacked Nikopol region 1️8️ times during the day. They launched 14 kamikaze drones and fired 4 times from artillery. Nikopol, Marhanets and Myrove communities were hit. Four multi-storey buildings, 12 private houses, a stadium, 3 outbuildings, infrastructure facilities, a car, a garage, and 2 gas pipelines were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

Serhiy Morhunov, Mayor of Vinnytsia, announced that six thousand drones of various types have been purchased by Vinnytsia community through the Prozorro system since the beginning of the year. 

Vinnytsia City Council informs that UAH 21m has been allocated in Vinnytsia for the needs of the AFU. Of this amount, UAH 12 million was allocated at the request of four military units. Another 9 million was allocated for the needs of other defence and law enforcement agencies.

Poltava oblast

Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava Regional Military Academy, announced that Kremenchuk lyceum with enhanced military and physical training has been named after Hero of Ukraine Vitalii Koval. He was killed on 6 January last year during a combat mission on the outskirts of Bakhmut, Donetsk oblast. 

Another recruitment centre of the Armed Forces of Ukraine opened in Kremenchuk, Poltava oblast. From now on, people can find out about current vacancies in the army not only in Poltava. 

Cherkasy oblast

Memorial plaques were installed at Cherkasy school No. 4 in honour of two graduates, Serhii Bondariev and Oleksandr Nikolaiev. Both were killed defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, reported that 120 houses damaged as a result of yesterday’s rocket attack need to be restored and repaired in Smila, specifically four multi-storey buildings.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday, the occupiers launched 326 strikes on 8 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy twice struck Mala Tokmachka with aerial bombs. 104 UAVs attacked Bilenke, Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, and Novoandriivka. 2 MLRS strikes hit Robotyne. There were 218 artillery strikes on Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Novopavlivka, Levadne, and Malynivka. 8 reports of residential destruction were received.

The General Staff reported that It is reported that russian occupiers attacked Ukrainian positions twice in Staramaiorske in Donetsk oblast and Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 

A resident of temporarily occupied Mariupol was sentenced for publishing a photo with Ukrainian symbols on social media. He was sentenced to 10 days of arrest and fined rub 90,000.

Guardians of orphaned children received 25 laptops from the charitable foundation Support for Ukrainian Orphans (Soutenez les orphelins ukrainiens). In addition, musical instruments, art supplies, clothing, and sports equipment were provided to the children.

Mykolaiv oblast

On 25 April, the enemy shelled Kutsurub community twice with artillery. As a result of the attacks, residential houses in the village of Ivanivka were damaged. Around 4:00 PM, the enemy attacked Halytsynove community with a FPV kamikaze drone. Also, yesterday during the day and into the night, the enemy shelled the waters near Ochakiv community with artillery.

Odesa oblast

On 25 April, the air defense of the south destroyed a reconnaissance ZALA drone in Odesa oblast.

Estonia, in coordination with Denmark, transferred two patrol boats to Ukraine to protect maritime routes in the Black Sea. The Estonian Ministry of Defense reports that such assistance helps Ukraine secure vital maritime routes and protect its waters to stop russian aggression.

Kherson oblast

It is reported that russian forces attacked a civilian vehicle with a kamikaze drone near Zolota Balka. One person was injured. Early in the morning, russian forces struck the village of Veletenske. One person was injured.

Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that a resident of Kozatske was killed as a result of russian shelling.

Two people were injured due to the detonation of an explosive device on a car on Novovorontsovka highway. A 60-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman suffered limb injuries. They were taken to the hospital.

Yesterday, the enemy shelled Beryslav, Bilozerka, Mykhailivka, Antonivka, Dniprovske, Yantarne, Odradokamianka, Osokorivka, Veletenske, Kizomys, Ivanivka, Novotiahynka, Tokarivka, Zolota Balka, Stanislav, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Kachkarivka, Novovorontsovka, Olhivka, and the city of Kherson. A multi-story building and 6 private houses, a shopping center, a kindergarten, an agricultural enterprise, and cars were damaged. 6 people were injured.

A resident of Vesele, who was injured in a russian mortar shelling a few days ago, went to the hospital. He suffered blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to his leg. The victim was hospitalized.

Referring to the Southern Defense ForcesIn the night of 26 April, the air defense forces of southern Ukraine destroyed a russian reconnaissance UAV in Kherson oblast. 

Volunteers donated about two dozen televisions and laptops, over a hundred tablets, a projector, and a charging station for gadgets for children’s corners in shelters. This will help organize children’s leisure activities during air raids.

Volyn oblast

Zakarpattia oblast

Rozhyshche City Council reports that defender Alla Pushkarchuk, nicknamed Ruta, was killed on April 25, 2024, while performing a combat mission near Udachne village, Pokrovsk region, Donetsk oblast. Mourning for her will last in the oblast from April 25 to April 27, 2024. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, April 30. According to the Institute of Mass Information, Anna Pushkarchuk was the 77th media person killed during a full-scale war.

The first barrier-free hair salon for people with disabilities has been opened in Zakarpattia. According to Roman Toroni, the Barrier-Free Salon project will operate on a “field trip” basis throughout Zakarpattia. Every month the Barrier-Free Salon provides free hairdressing and pedicure services to people with limited mobility who need it and are unable to receive or pay for it. 

New safety classes continue to appear in Zakarpattia, namely in Velyki Luchky secondary school in Mukachevo region and Kalynivka lyceum in Tyachiv region. Coincidentally, these interactive spaces in both regions are the sixth in a row. Safety classes are designed to raise awareness of the life safety basics among young people.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

According to Svitlana Onyshchuk, Head of Ivano-Frankivsk RMA, Olha Prodan, president of the Canadian non-profit organization Ukrainian Canadian Advocacy Group and Andrii Khomyn, director of the NGO Rehabilitation of the Unbreakable signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Lviv oblast

Lviv oblast officially became a sister city of California. On April 26, the State Assembly upheld the January decision of the State Senate and voted in favour of a resolution establishing sister city relations with Lviv oblast. This decision opens the way to mutually beneficial cooperation between Lviv and California in economy, education, science and culture. Lviv oblast is the second oblast in Ukraine to start cooperation with the US state. 

10-year-old Anna Kutna from the Horodok community asked not to give her birthday presents. In return, she asked for money, which the girl donated to the army. The funds were turned into 2 Mavic quadcopters, which she personally sent to Khasan, Commander of the Raroh UAV system unit of the 24th King Danylo Brigade.

Rivne oblast

Employees of the Dermansko-Ostrozkyi National Nature Park in Rivne oblast, supported by the Department of Culture and Tourism of Rivne Regional State Administration, have set up an eco-trail for visually impaired people. 

In Rivne oblast, 30 ambulance drivers received medical diplomas. The visiting team not only transports doctors to the patient or to a medical facility, but also often helps with resuscitation. The new knowledge will help to improve the quality of emergency medical care and strengthen teamwork in critical situations.

Serhii Podilin, first Deputy Head of the RMA reported that Rivne shopping centers will be equipped with video surveillance and be integrated with the Safe City system and metal detectors.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil City Council hosted a presentation of Ternopil’s Portfolio project together with representatives of the United Nations Development Program. This project is one of the elements of the city’s development strategy. The project was made possible by the support of Mustafa Sait-Amet, UNDP Ukraine Regional Development Program Manager.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Employees of Khmelnytskyi City Council support their colleagues who are defending Ukraine. In particular, this week they delivered 40 FPV drones to the unit in which the mayor’s advisor fights. To purchase the FPV drones, the teams raised over UAH 400,000. Representatives of the Volunteers of Podillia charity foundation helped to purchase the drones.

Chernivtsi oblast

The ACC Media Agency reports that, today students of Lyceum No. 5 Oriana sent 25 fpv drones and one Mavic Pro 3 reconnaissance drone to the frontline. Only a week passed from the idea to its realization. The total amount raised is almost UAH 450,000.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The European Parliament adopts a resolution “On undemocratic presidential elections in Russia and their illegitimate extension to the occupied territories”. It was supported by 493 deputies, 11 voted against it and 18 abstained. 

The US State Department confirmed that long-range ATACMS missiles arrived in Ukraine in April 2024. 

TV5 Monde says that the United States hopes that providing Ukraine with ATACMS missiles with a range of 300km will encourage Germany to make a similar decision regarding Taurus. 

The US also announced $6 billion in aid to Ukraine. The funds will be used to manufacture interceptors for NASAMS and Patriot systems, drones, anti-drone systems and artillery ammunition.

The Lithuanian Seimas extended the law on national sanctions against russian and belarusian citizens for a year.

Spain has decided to send a small number of missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine. According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Spain has ruled out the possibility of supplying Patriot batteries, but will give Kyiv missiles for them.

The UK plans to provide Ukraine with Paveway IV laser-guided bombs. 

The OSCE mission has prepared a report on the deprivation of liberty of civilian Ukrainians by russia since 2014.
