It has been the 651st day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm: 

There were 91 combat engagements.

The enemy launched a total of 4 missiles and 104 air strikes, 101 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. The russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Private residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged.

Russian occupiers launched yet another attack on Ukraine, using 50 Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs last night. The Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed 41 UAVs.

Air strikes hit Kostobobriv, Chernihiv oblast,  Novodmytrivka, Sumy oblast, Ivanivka, Kharkiv oblast, Stelmakhivka, Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, Spirne, Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, Oleksandropil, Novomykhailivka, Urozhaine, Donetsk oblast, Novodarivka, Zaporizhzhia oblast, Tiahynka, Krynky, and Lvove, Kherson oblast.

Over 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv oblasts came under artillery fire.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the enemy maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy troops conduct active sabotage activities in order to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops. They increase.the density of minefields along the state border in Belgorod oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian defenders repelled 8 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Synkivka, Kharkiv oblast and Novoselivske, Luhansk oblast.

Towards Lyman, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 26 adversary attacks in the vicinity of Serebriansk forestry, Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, Terny, Spirne, Vesele, and Rozdolivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, the Ukrainian soldiers repelled 10 attacks of the enemy in the vicinities of Bohdanivka, Klischiivka, and Andriivka, Donetsk oblast. The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut, Donetsk oblast, inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and consolidate their new positions.

Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy who keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka. The Ukrainian soldiers are standing their ground as they inflict major losses on the enemy. The Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repelled 25 attacks in the areas east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, northeast of Berdychi, Avdiivka, Sieverne, and Pervomaiske, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Mariinka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the vicinity of Krasnohorivka, Maryinka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. The Ukrainian defenders repelled 18 attacks in that area.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 1 enemy attack in the area south of Zolota Nyva, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled all of the enemy attacks that were an attempt to regain the lost ground in the areas west of Verbove, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their active operations towards Melitopol to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, and exhaust the enemy all along the front line.

Towards Kherson, the Ukrainian Defense Forces maintain their positions held on the left bank of the Dnipro River, continue to conduct counter-battery fire, as they strike behind the enemy lines.

The Ukrainian Air Forces launched 15.air strikes on the buildup of troops, weapons, and military equipment, 4 air strikes on command posts, and 3 air strikes on the anti-aircraft missile systems of the adversary. The air defense of Ukraine destroyed 1 russian Su-24M (Fencer) bomber.

The Ukrainian rocket troops and artillery hit 6 buildups of troops, weapons, and military equipment, 1 command post, 1 ammunition depot, 2 electronic warfare stations, and 11 artillery systems of the russian invaders.


At least 38 russian servicemen from Crimea were captured, most of them might be citizens of Ukraine. As of December 4, at least 584 russian soldiers were buried in the occupied Crimea, 456 might have been  citizens of Ukraine. The number of burials may be higher, since a significant part is not disclosed. 

70% of enemy armored vehicles do not return from the battlefield. Fierce fighting continues towards Avdiivka.  The enemy tries to approach Avdiivka Coke Chemical plant, however they either retreat or are being eliminated. They attack with infantry, since their combat work is complicated by weather conditions. The enemy sustains significant losses. They throw armored vehicles forward, which is why they do not return from the battlefield. 

The Cabinet of Ministers allocated almost 32 million hryvnias to Zaporizhzhia RMA. To strengthen the defense capabilities, 31 million 704 thousand hryvnias have been allocated to the Zaporizhia Regional State Administration to construct fortifications.  

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community, said that Zolochiv agricultural machinery was destroyed by a russian air strike at 1 pm.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that russians hit Kozacha Lopan, Kharkiv region, at 10:05 am.

Two locals were injured as a result of hostile shelling of Podoly village, Kupiansk region, at around 9:30 am. One of the victims was taken to hospital and the other treated on the spot.

Over 18 settlements of Kharkiv, Chuhuiv and Kupiansk regions suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks yesterday.

The enemy attacked Ivanivka, Kupiansk region, with air strikes. Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian defenders repelled 8 enemy attacks near Synkivka.

A gas pipe, an outpatient clinic, private buildings and a car were damaged as a result of enemy shelling in Kozacha Lopan village.  There were no casualties.

A residential building was destroyed and critical infrastructure damaged as a result of a drone attack on Lyptsi village at 11:25 pm and at 3 am.

As a result of the hostilities, 254 consumers are temporarily without gas supply in Kharkiv region.  

After the shelling, 1442 consumers were cut off from electricity in Kozacha Lopan village. Restoration works are ongoing.

Pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 5.9 hectares of territory and defused 68 explosive ordnance over the day.

Representatives of the RMA met with Ambassador of Switzerland Félix Baumann. The parties discussed enhancing work to restore infrastructure, building protective structures, especially in educational institutions, and demining the region.

Kharkiv oblast received almost 344,000 LED lamps for exchange, which are available for free to pensioners.

The press service of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office said that in Krasnohrad Regional Court in Kharkiv oblast, a muscovite was sentenced to 15 years in prison for shooting a civilian car with a family on its way to Bakhmut to evacuate their relatives in the summer of 2022. A drone of the Armed Forces of Ukraine helped the woman escape, arriving with a note “Follow me”. The invaders threw the man out of the car and into a trench, he was unconscious for more than 30 hours, but after regaining consciousness, he managed to get to the positions of the Ukrainian military. And the russian was trialed in absentia, his lawyer and the victims were present at the trial.

The press service of the Regional Power Company reported that power engineers have supplied electricity to all consumers in Topolske, Izium region, more than 100 households. The village lost power in the first days of russian invasion. The village was powered by three substations, two of which were destroyed during active hostilities. The wires were 100% damaged, the supports – 70%.

On the morning of 6 December, the lights of Kharkiv main Christmas tree were switched on at Universytet station. For the second year in a row, it has been placed in the subway for security reasons. Also on 6 December, the illumination of the house of St Nicholas was switched on at the Historical Museum underground station.

Donetsk oblast

The press service of Donetsk police reported that yesterday russian troops attacked civilians 21 times. Enemy shells hit 13 settlements: Avdiivka, Kurakhove, Selydove, Chasiv Yar cities, Berdychi, Druzhba, Lastochkyne, Malynivka, Mykolaivka, Novokalynove, Oleksiivka, Soloviove and Torske villages. 25 civilian objects were damaged, including 10 residential buildings, administrative buildings, 2 private enterprises, 3 educational institutions, a hospital and cars.

The invaders shelled Chasiv Yar with Grad multiple rocket launchers, killing one person and injuring 6. In addition, 6 private buildings were damaged.

A civilian was injured as a result of artillery shelling in Torske.

Russia launched four S-300 missiles at Selydove. An educational institution was destroyed, 2 administrative buildings, 2 private enterprises, apartment buildings and cars damaged.

The enemy attacked Avdiivka with aircraft and tanks. A hospital and an educational institution were destroyed.

Two buildings were damaged by shelling in Mykolaivka.

Police identified the man killed in Novohrodivka using DNA analysis. He is the 35-year-old father of the girl whose body was found under the rubble earlier. Also russian missile took the lives of the whole family. The father and 8-year-old daughter have been identified. The search operation is ongoing for the woman.

Six-month-old Ilai from Donetsk oblast, rescued by police, celebrates his first St Nicholas Day. Gifts for the baby were delivered by paramedics, including his rescuer Ruslan Hubanov. Together with his mother and older brother, Ilai is staying with relatives as his home was completely destroyed. Teddy the dog, who was considered dead, was also rescued, he spent the whole night under the rubble and managed to get out in the morning. The family decided to evacuate from the region.

Law enforcers in Donetsk oblast congratulated children on St Nicholas Day in frontline settlements. There are still 41,430 children living in Donetsk oblast, including more than 5,000 in the areas of active hostilities. Parents are urged to evacuate.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, russian troops have become more active in the areas where they attacked with large forces in autumn. They attacked from two sides such as, near Novoselivske and in Bilohorivka, where they tried several times to force the Ukrainian army out of their positions. They also stormed Serebrianka forestry, where fighting happens almost every day. Enemy aircraft were used in Stelmakhivka and Bilohorivka. Nevske and Bilohorivka were shelled with artillery and mortar.

Powerful generators are being brought to the frontline settlements. Specifically, the day before, another batch of such devices was delivered to Nevske.

The so-called “government of lpr” has approved a programme to replace elevators by 2030. A total of 2,122 lifts in the occupied Luhansk oblast have been reported to be out of order, which is 51.5% of the total. The majority of them are in the territory occupied in 2014, where russia has been promising to do everything for nine years. Over the next year, there are plans to replace only 105 lifts, which is less than 5% of the broken ones.

There is no regular transport connection between Sievierodonetsk and the surrounding villages. It is still possible to get to those settlements that are located on the routes leading to neighbouring towns. But those in other directions are not. In these directions, the occupation administration has not provided any buses for a year and a half. There is no connection, so it is impossible to call a taxi in case of an emergency.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

On the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi visited servicemen undergoing treatment after injuries in one of the capital’s hospitals. The head of state thanked the military for protecting Ukraine, talked with the soldiers and presented them with awards.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi visited the national specialized children’s hospital “Okhmatdyt” in Kyiv, where he talked with children who are being treated at the hospital after russian shelling. In particular, he met with Maryna Ponomareva, a 7-year-old girl from the Kherson oblast, who lost her leg in May 2022 as a result of a missile attack by russian troops. Marina became the first child with a war injury to receive prosthetics in Ukraine. She is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

At the 5th regional veteran event “Step to return” in Vorzel, the head of Kyiv RMA Ruslan Karvchenko announced that social managers are already working in 7 regions of the oblast. They take care of fighters at the stage of injury. Veterans’ assistants will appear soon in all communities.

Kyiv City State Administration reported that capital received a new batch of aid from German partners, in particular – new modern ambulances, a fire truck, utility vehicles, a minibus and a 20-ton humanitarian aid truck. 

Bucha City Council reported that a modern safe space will be equipped with the help of the international organization “Save the children in Ukraine” in the shelter of the Myrotske Gymnasium No. 12. Recently, benefactors equipped the shelter with new furniture.

Aid was handed over to servicemen on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Irpin. As reported in the city council, the local community collected 4 million hryvnias, which was used to purchase 15 cars, about 40 drones, the Starlink satellite internet complex and other necessary ammunition for the soldiers.

On December 5, the Forum of Volunteers took place in the Kyiv oblast, which was held in the gallery of Ukrainian contemporary art “Art Ukraine Gallery”. The head of the Kyiv RMA presented the volunteers of the oblast with state awards and thanks for their active position.

A monument to the Hero of Ukraine, Oleksandr Matsievskyi, who was shot by the russians last December after saying “Glory to Ukraine!”, was unveiled on the territory of the Kyiv Fortress in the capital. The sculpture is an almost exact copy of the military one, and the soldier’s personal clothes were put on it. The sculpture was created at the expense of patrons and charitable funds. The mother and wife of the fallen defender came to the opening.

Zhytomyr oblast

The head of Zhytomyr RMA Vitaliy Bunechko announced that the air defense forces shot down a kamikaze drone over the territory of the oblast during an air alert at night. As a result of falling debris, no damage or injuries were recorded.

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reported that 12% of cultural heritage was destroyed in Zhytomyr oblast due to russian aggression. In total, as of November 25, 2023, 1,750 objects of cultural infrastructure were damaged in Ukraine.

The President awarded the “Golden Heart” award to Zhytomyr volunteer Oleksandr Taragonsky. Oleksandr is a member of the International Charitable Foundation of Vladyslav Stadnyk “Steel Wings”, which has been helping the military since 2014 and regularly travels to the front lines.

Zhytomyr RMA reported that schools of the oblast will receive Wi-Fi routers and webcams from international partners. Ukraine received a new batch of equipment from CISCO with the assistance of USAID. As of today, 8,217 laptops were handed over to Zhytomyr oblast, which went to 601 educational institutions.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that the russians made 5 shelling of  border communities of the oblast: Seredina-Buda, Znob-Novhorodske, Esman and Druzhbivka. In total, 17 hits from mortars were recorded, and the enemy also fired from small arms. 

Last day, the russians carried out 15 shelling of the border areas and settlements of the Sumy oblast. Yunakivka, Krasnopillia, Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Seredina-Buda, Esman, Svesa communities came under shelling. 60 hits from mortars, 14 hits from grenade launchers, 10 rounds from small arms were recorded. Also, the enemy carried out aerial bombardment from helicopters with unguided aerial missiles of the Krasnopillia community – 4 hits.

The National Police of the oblast reported that as a result of the russian shelling of the city of Seredina-Buda on December 5, two private residential buildings were damaged. 

Volodymyr Artyukh, the head of Sumy oblast reported that attacks by russian subversive groups have intensified on the borders of the oblast. The  russians terrorists kill people, destroy infrastructure, and fights with the Armed Forces.

Chernihiv oblast

The Chernihiv border detachment reported that russian troops have launched 4 air strikes, 36 mortar strikes, 2 artillery strikes and 50 shots from AGS on the border of the oblast. Two communities of the oblast were under enemy fire: Semenivka hromada – 4 hits by the unguided misslese from an airplane, 4 from a mortar, 50 from an AGS, 2 from barrel artillery in the direction of Kostobobriv, Tymonovychy, Mhy and Leonivka, Snovsk hromada – 32 mortar hits in the direction of Hrinivka.

Chernihiv RMA reported that on December 6, the russian military directed an attack drone at the car of the headman of one of the villages of the Novhorod-Siverskyi community. The car was fired upon when the headman and his colleagues were helping to restore the power grid damaged by the shelling. The vehicle burned, no one was injured.

A new notification system is being installed and tested in Pryluky with grant funds. The community received three sets of the notification system – loudspeakers and control units for the amount of 419 thousand hryvnias. As reported in the city council, the first set has already been installed, the other two are planned to be installed by the end of the year.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

At night 4 enemy Shaheds were shot down over Dnipropetrovsk oblast by ​​Air Defense Forces in Kamian, Dnipro and Pavlohrad districts. In the evening and closer to night the enemy shelled Nikopol with artillery three times. About a dozen shells were fired. In the city 4 private houses, 4 farm buildings, fences and a gas pipeline were damaged. There were no casualties.

Vinnytsia oblast

More than 500 shelters located in residential buildings in Vinnytsia were equipped with automatic lock opening systems during an air raid. Vinnytsia became the first city in Ukraine to introduce the practice of automatically opening the doors of the simplest shelters during an air raid. This process in the city began in the summer with community educational institutions. And at the end of summer – beginning of autumn, specialized departments and utility companies of the city council began to install automatic lock opening systems in the residential sector of the city. The process is currently ongoing.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of RMA announced that at night during the russian attack on the  Kirovohrad region territory downed drone debris damaged two buildings in Haivoron community of Holovaniv district. No one was injured. In total, seven drones were shot down.

Poltava oblast

Philip Pronin, Head of RMA reported that the oblast is consolidating efforts to rebuild people’s homes in Kherson region. The villages of Pravdyne and Chkalov are under Poltava oblast protection as a part of the Side by Side initiative. So far 91 houses have been repaired there. More than 200 people live in renovated houses. Construction workers continue to work in Pravdyne. Roofs are repaired, windows and doors are replaced.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of RMA announced that enemy Shahed was destroyed in Zolotonishchyna at night. People were not injured. There is minor damage to a few buildings.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

During the past day, russian military forces executed 151 strikes on 24 populated areas in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Of these, 113 artillery shelling incidents occurred in the territories of Novotroitske, Novodanylivka, Orikhiv, Levadne, Poltavka, Charivne, Chervone, Robotyne, Kamianske, Stepove, Lobkove, and other frontline cities and villages. Occupiers conducted an airstrike on Novoandriivka, launched 29 UAV attacks on Zaliznychne, Charivne, Chervone, Malynivka, Bilohiria, Mala Tokmachka, Novodarivka, Novoivanivka, Levadne, Temyrivka, Robotyne, and Mali Shcherbaky, as well as 8 MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) shelling on Huliaipole, Huliaipilske, Novodarivka, Mala Tokmachka, Robotyne, Lukianivske, and Mahdalynivka. During enemy artillery shelling, a 62-year-old resident of Orikhiv sustained injuries. There were 9 reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure objects.

Former commander of the operational-tactical group “Sumy,” Major General Vasyl Osypchuk, has been appointed as the head of the Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces “East.” The newly formed 110th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade in Zaporizhzhia oblast is part of the Regional Directorate of the Territorial Defense Forces “East.”

Today, on December 6, a powerful explosion occurred in the temporarily occupied city of Berdiansk, which was heard by residents of several neigborhoods. This information was reported by Victoria Halitsyna, the head of Berdiansk Municipal Military Administration, in her Telegram channel.

It is reported that russian military forces have caused environmental damage to the Zaporizhzhia oblast amounting to almost 15 billion hryvnias since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. Inspection officers are calculating the losses for soil pollution, land pollution with construction waste, and contamination with debris from rocket and artillery fragments.

On December 6, 20 prisms with portraits and biographies of fallen soldiers were installed on the Alley of Heroes in Zaporizhzhia. The Alley of Heroes was opened on October 1, initially featuring nine prisms with information about defenders. Currently, there are 40 prisms dedicated to fallen soldiers on the Alley of Heroes, sponsored by patrons.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitaliy Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA reported that on December 6 at night, seven russian “Shahed-136/131” UAVs and one reconnaissance “Merlin-VR” UAV were shot down in Mykolaiv oblast. The impact of the debris caused infrastructure damage in Snihurivka and Ochakiv communities. Additionally, there were targeted strikes by russian military on Ochakiv city. No casualties were reported as a result of these incidents.

In Mykolaiv, a volunteer forum dedicated to International Volunteer Day. This event brought together representatives from the volunteer movement and local authorities in the region. Discussions revolved around strengthening collaborative efforts, coordinating actions, and sharing experiences to support civilians and the military amid the ongoing full-scale invasion.

Odesa oblast

Operational Command South reported that during an anti-air battle conducted by the air command “South” in collaboration with the Air Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine, a total of 19 “Shahed-136/131” drones were shot down, with 9 of them located in Odesa oblast. Throughout Ukraine, on December 6 at night, russian military initiated the launch of 48 Shahed type drones from two separate directions. 

On December 6, the Defence Forces of Southern Ukraine reported that the occupiers continue to terrorize civilian shipping routes in the Black Sea with tactical aircraft. They drop explosives along along the probable paths of civilian ships. On December 5, three such occurrences were documented. Currently, russian military has deployed three ships on active combat duty in the Black Sea and one in the Sea of Azov. Missile carriers have been directed back to their respective bases. 

On December 5, Ukrainian forces successfully shot down a russian Su-24M bomber near Zmiinyi Island. The bomber was attempting a missile and bomb strike on the southern area of Odesa oblast, operating under the cover of a Su-30SM fighter.

Kherson oblast

Last night, the russian army attacked the territory of Ukraine using UAVs of the “Shahed-131/136” type from the temporarily occupied Crimea. Air defense units destroyed 3 enemy UAVs in Kherson oblast. The enemy targeted objects in Kherson and Kirovohrad oblasts, causing destruction and damage to infrastructure, private farms, and agricultural machinery.

During the night, the enemy shelled the city of Kherson. A 72-year-old woman in her own home was hit during the shelling. She was diagnosed with blast trauma and concussion. The enemy attacks caused explosive waves, breaking windows in a medical facility building, but on-duty personnel were unharmed.

Yesterday, the enemy conducted 101 shelling incidents, firing 510 shells from mortars, artillery, “Grads,” ATGMs, tanks, aviation, and UAVs, including 3 “Shahed” UAVs. The city of Kherson was shelled with 31 shells. Due to russian aggression, 3 people were killed, and 7 were injured. The police have opened 33 criminal cases regarding war crimes committed by russian military forces in Kherson oblast.

A shelter has been arranged in Blahodatne of Chornobaivka community. The spacious shelter is equipped with everything necessary for the prolonged and comfortable stay of people during the threat of russian shelling. A festive event was organized in the shelter for children on Saint Nicholas Day.

The marines, who defend Kherson oblast, received almost fifty kamikaze drones. These UAVs will help detect and immediately destroy enemy equipment and personnel. Funds for weapons were collected in honor of the anniversary of the de-occupation of the right-bank part of Kherson oblast.

Philanthropists handed over a van to Kochubeyivka community. The vehicle will be used for transporting construction materials and humanitarian cargo between settlements. Drinking water was delivered to the residents of Mykilske and Svitlivka using this vehicle.

Police juvenile prevention officers in Kherson щидфіе, with the support of volunteers, visited de-occupied communities to congratulate children on Saint Nicholas Day. Due to the challenging security situation, there were no festive concerts or entertainment programs, but the children received many gifts, greetings, and warm hugs from the police.

On December 6, 2023, a photo exhibition titled “Through the War” opened at the Lesia Ukrainka Central Library in Kherson. This is a joint project of Colonel Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi and Junior Sergeant Oleh Palchyk. The exhibition features over 100 photographs depicting war crimes of the russian army, portraits of Ukrainian defenders on various fronts, and the work of combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The exhibition is constantly updated with new photos, and the authors of the project plan to visit Kherson by the end of the year with another part of the photo works involving cultural ambassadors to Ukraine.

Roman Hlomba from Prykarpattia also received a housing certificate. An anti-aircraft gunner of the National Guard destroyed three enemy Su-25 attack aircraft using the Igla MANPADS.

Lviv oblast

Ivan Zhuk and Andrii Bachal, Heroes of Yavoriv community, were posthumously awarded the 3th degree For Courage orders. Ivan Zhuk was killed in November 2022 during artillery shelling near Bilohorivka in Donetsk oblast. Andrii Bachalo was killed in June 2022 as a result of artillery shelling in the village of Spirne, Donetsk oblast.

Bohdan Stetskiv, military serviceman from Rudkiv community, was also posthumously awarded the 3th degree Order of Courage. The soldier of the border detachment was killed in April 2023 during artillery shelling in Hryhorivka district of Donetsk oblast.

Rivne oblast
