It has been the 563rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

There were 26 military clashes. The russian army launched 2 missile strikes and 29 airstrikes, carried out 14 artillery barrages with rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. 

Towards Volyn and Polissia, the operational situation did not change.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army conducted airstrikes in the areas of Ambarne and Budarky in Kharkiv oblast. Over 20 populated areas, including Karpovychi and Leonivka in Chernihiv oblast, Novomykolaivka, Myropilske, Turia in the Sumy region, Huriiv Kozachok, Budarky, and Starytsia in the Kharkiv region, were shelked with artillery and mortar. The operational situation in eastern and southern Ukraine did not change.

Towards Kupiansk, the russian army conducted airstrikes near Synkivka and Kyslivka in Kharkiv oblast, as well as Novoselivka in Luhansk oblast. Kyslivka and Kucherivka in Kharkiv oblast were shelled with artillery and mortar. 

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian troops repelled russian attacks in the area of Berestove. Airstrikes were carried out on Bilohorivka in Luhansk oblast, Spirne, and Vesele in the Donetsk oblast. Over 20 populated areas, including Bilohorivka in the Luhansk region and Torske, Dibrova, Verkhniokamianske, Spirne, and Berestove in Donetsk oblast, were shelled with artillery and mortar.

Towards Bakhmut, Ukrainian soldiers successfully held back the russian army in the areas of Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bohdanivka, and Klischiivka. Klishchiivka and Andriivka in Donetsk oblast were hit by r ussian airstrikes. Over 20 populated areas, including Chasiv Yar, Klischiivka, Bila Hora, Kurdiumivka, and New York in Donetsk oblast, were under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Avdiivka, more than 10 populated areas, including Keramik, Stepove, Avdiivka, Severne, and Pervomaiske in Donetsk oblast, were shelled with artillery and mortar. 

Towards Mariinka, Ukrainian soldiers repelled 8 russian attacks in Marinka area. The russian army conducted an airstrike near Krasnohorivka. About 15 populated areas, including Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Pobeda, and Novomykhailivka in Donetsk oblast were shelled with artillery and mortar.

Towards Shakhtarsk, russian military conducted airstrikes near Prechystivka and Zolota Nyva in Donetsk oblast. Around 10 populated areas, including Vodyane, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, Pyatyhatky, Robotyne, and Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia oblast, were under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the russian army carried out an airstrike in the area of Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Over 20 populated areas, including Olhivske, Huliaypole, Huliaypilske, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, Pyatyhatky, Robotyne, and Kamianske in Zaporizhzhia oblast, were affected with artillery and mortar.

Towards Kherson, Poniativka and Sadove in Kherson oblast, as well as Dniprovske in Mykolaiv oblast, were shelled with artillery and mortar.  

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation towards Melitopol and conduct offensive actions in towards Bakhmut. They are achieving success in areas south of Robotyne and Klischiivka, consolidating their positions, destroying the russian army, and gradually liberating occupied territories.

The  aviation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted 8 strikes on the areas where russian manpower, weapons, and military equipment were concentrated.

Units of rocket forces and artillery have successfully struck 5 artillery pieces and 1 russian air defense missile system.

According to Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko, 80 torture chambers were discovered on the territory of Ukraine set up by the occupiers. “In the liberated territories, torture chambers where the civilian population was illegally detained and tortured were discovered. The police have already discovered 80 places in Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kyiv and Sumy oblasts,” she noted.

The Minister of Defense announced that about 174 thousand km. sq. must be inspected for the presence of risks from explosive objects. The largest scale of pollution was identified in  Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolaiv regions.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Illia Yevlash, Head of the Press Service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that towards Kupiansk, russian troops want to reach Oskil and establish defences near Borova for the winter. According to him, russia is forming assault units in Kupiansk region from units that were previously defeated by Ukrainian troops. Specifically, they are using mobilised soldiers and signalmen.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that yesterday settlements of Chuhuiv and Kupiansk regions were under enemy attack.

A building was damaged by shelling in Vilkhuvatka village, Kupiansk region, and a fire broke out.

As a result of the shelling of Kivsharivka and Kurylivka village, Kupiansk region, forest fires broke out.

A 44-year-old man tripped a Butterfly mine in his own yard in Rubizhne village, Chuhuiv region, at around 11:30 am. He was hospitalised in moderate condition.

A combine harvester exploded on an unknown explosive device in a field near Andriivka village, Izium region, at about 11:50 am. There were no casualties.

Mine clearance is ongoing. Yesterday pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 4.4 hectares of territory and defused 89 explosive ordnance.

Balakliia CIty Council reported about the celebration of City Day on 8 September as on the same day in 2022, the city was liberated from russian invaders.

Vitalii Karabanov, Head of the Local Military Administration, said that Balakliia community remains one of the most ammunition polluted areas of the region. Sappers have been working here since the first days of de-occupation. Over a year, more than 27K hectares of land have been cleared of mines in Balakliia community, a quarter of the total mined area.

In Kupiansk, Vatutin Street and the entrance were renamed in honour of 10 September: on this day, during the September 2022 counter-offensive, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated the city from russian invaders.

Donetsk oblast

Illia Yevlash, Spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, said that yesterday Ukrainian troops eliminated 257 russian soldiers, seven field ammunition depots and two command and observation posts towards Bakhmut.

Towards Volnovakha, several buildings were destroyed and agricultural machinery damaged in Shevchenko village of Komar community.

Towards Donetsk, 1 person was killed in Katerynivka of Marinka community. Two people were injured in Soloviove and Pervomaiske of Ocheretyne community.

Towards Lysychansk, 1 person was killed and 4 buildings damaged in Zarichne of Lyman community. Two buildings and a non-residential building were destroyed in Siversk.

Towards Horlivka, 5 buildings were damaged as a result of a Smerch MRLs attack on Druzhkivka. In Chasiv Yar community, 2 buildings were damaged. 2 buildings were damaged in Shcherbynivka and Petrivka of Toretsk community. The prosecutor’s office reported that two brothers aged 14 and 15 and their parents were injured as a result of artillery shelling in Pivnichne, where a shell hit a private building with a family inside. A neighbouring residential building was also damaged.

As part of the 1000 Drones for Ukraine campaign, the leadership of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, volunteers from Eduard Mkrtchan and the Help the Brave charity foundations provided 50 drones to the military: 25 Mavic Pro 3 and 25 FPV drones. In addition to the drones, the military received 15 generators, 15 Ecoflow batteries and 5 Starlinks.

Vitalii Barabash, Head of Avdiivka City Military Administration, informed that Ukrainian forces launched a national flag into the sky in Avdiivka in honour of the city’s day. It flew towards occupied Donetsk.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the enemy continues to try to push through the Ukrainian defences near Novoiehorivka and southeast of Dibrova. Near Novoiehorivka, battles are going on for important heights that give a certain advantage. The pressure of the invaders is at its maximum. They use tanks and other armoured vehicles there every day but they also lose them constantly. Including modern T-90 Proryv, which fails to do so. Bilohorivka was under enemy air strikes. Nevske and Bilohorivka were shelled with artillery and mortar.

In hospitals and clinics in the occupied part of Luhansk oblast, russians do not have time to vacate beds, the entire fund is constantly occupied. Therefore, in Alchevsk, for instance, the injured had to be accommodated in the morgue, where they were moved together with the invaders eliminated near Kreminna.

The enemy continues to move reserves to these areas and completes assault groups mainly at the expense of prisoners.

It is possible to get to frontline cities in the so-called “LPR” only if you have a registration and even then it is not always possible. Also russians have a list of apartments and houses occupied by their soldiers and collaborators. And if at a checkpoint they carefully check the registration and it matches their data, the way to the settlement is closed for a person who has not been there for some time. It is almost impossible for anyone to prove ownership of real estate.

Roman Vlasenko, Head of Sievierodonetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that residents are trying to ignore the so-called elections held by the occupation authorities. There have been cases of ballots being ruined, electoral documents being destroyed and a ‘polling station’ being set on fire. In recent months, many non-local residents have appeared in the region and the majority of ballots contain unfamiliar names. No one observes the procedure of voting secrecy. The irregular voting rounds continue to this day.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi is visiting Kyiv to show support for Ukraine in the fight against russian invasion. This is the first visit of the head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan met with the President of Ukraine, and also visited Bucha, where he honored the memory of the victims of russian aggression.

The Japanese Government handed over 24 ISUZU trucks with manipulators to units of the State Emergency Service for humanitarian demining. Starting next week, transport will be delivered to areas close to the war zone and de-occupied territories. As reported by the State Emergency Service of the oblast, as part of the agreement, the transfer of special machinery and equipment for demining to the rescuers for a total amount of more than 31.5 million US dollars is foreseen.

KCMA reported that liquidation of explosive objects in the territory of the oblast continues. Residents of Vyshhorod and neighboring communities are warned that it may be loud and are asked to remain calm.

Kyiv RMA reported that 3,546 positive decisions were made for the total amount of over UAH 314 million under the first stage of the eRestoration program in the oblast. Active work is currently underway to process applications for the second stage of the government program. People from any affected settlements of the region can apply for funds to repair damage.

UNITED24 ambassador, director Michel Azanavicius visited Irpin on September 8 and saw how the restoration of the house damaged by the russians, for which he collected funds, is in progress. Fundraising took place through the UNITED24 platform – more than 250,000 euros were collected in total. Restoration works are on schedule and are planed to be completed in December.

In the city of Kyiv, a competition was held among the fire and rescue units of the Kyiv oblast, known in the world as “Firefighter Combat Challenge”. 14 teams from different parts of the oblast came to the capital to compete for the honorary title of “The Strongest Fire Rescuer”.

In Kyiv, on September 9, the birthday of Andriyvskyi uzviz is celebrated, as part of the program there is a charity concert in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Actor and military serviceman Dmytro Linartovych will host it. Funds collected during the concert will be used to purchase drones for the Ukrainian military.

Zhytomyr oblast

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) together with the European Union started restoration works at Lyceum No. 26 in the city of Zhytomyr. The reconstruction of the lyceum is planned to be implemented according to the principle of “Build Back Better”. One of the key components is construction work, which is designed to create comfortable conditions for learning.

Zhytomyr Mayor Serhiy Sukhomlyn after a meeting with Minna Hakarainen, adviser on education at the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine announced that centers are planned to be created on the basis of vocational schools, where demobilized military personnel will be able to obtain new specialties. Finland will help change the vocational education system in Zhytomyr – make it interesting, prestigious and modern. 

Sumy oblast

At night and in the morning, the russians carried out 5 shelling of the border – 37 mortar and AGS hits were recorded. As reported in the Sumy RMA, the communities of Nova Sloboda, Khotyn and Velyka Pysarivka were under enemy shelling.

During the previous day, September 8, the enemy carried out 15 shelling of the border, a total of 61 explosions were recorded. Seredina-Buda, Velyka Pysarivka, Esman, Khotyn, Yunakivsk, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia communities came under shelling.

Sumy RMA reported  that two civilians in the Khotyn and Bilopillia communities were wounded due to enemy shelling on September 8. In the territories of the border communities, 4 private households and a cultural center were damaged due to russian strikes.

Sumy RMA reported that a resident of Sumy, who was injured as a result of a russian missile attack on the private sector of the city, died in the hospital.

In Sumy, rescuers completed the liquidation of the consequences of a russian missile attack – 52 rescuers and 10 pieces of equipment were involved in providing assistance. The territories of private households were cleaned from the remains of construction structures. With the help of a special material, the roofs of residential buildings were restored, and 42 windows were covered with film and other building materials.

Sumy RMA reported that a pontoon crossing was built in the Konotop region, on the site of a bridge destroyed by the enemy. Arrangement of access roads is being completed. This transport artery is very important for Sumy oblast – it connects the northern and central regions of the oblast.

Chernihiv oblast

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that a 68-year-old local resident was seriously injured as a result of artillery shelling by russian troops on a village in the Semenivka community on September 9. He was taken to the hospital for qualified medical care. Commercial buildings were damaged on the victim’s private property due to russian shelling.

During the past day, September 8, the russians shelled the border of Chernihiv oblast 6 times from their territory. As reported in the SBGS, a total of 31 mortar and barrel artillery strikes were recorded. The communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnyanka and Snovsk came under shelling.

Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the Chernihiv RMA, informed about the meeting with the delegation from the Slovak Republic. It was about the implementation of rehabilitation, mental health and demining projects. The head of the RMA noted that with the help of Slovakia, a batch of humanitarian aid arrived in the border settlements of the oblast, and the modular towns of the Chernihiv oblast were equipped with air conditioning systems.

Chernihiv acting mayor Oleksandr Lomako announced that the Republic of Latvia will hand over 12 modular furnished houses to. The city will also receive furniture for kindergartens and equipment for children’s playgrounds as aid. According to him, the reconstruction of kindergarten No. 19 is currently underway, in which the Latvian side is also participating.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the regional council, the russians attacked Nikopol region at night. They shelled the community of Myrove with artillery. During the day, the occupiers attacked Nikopol region 4 times. They fired from artillery and drones at Nikopol and Marhanets community. The shelling damaged a utility company. 

According to Head of the Kryvyi Rih Defence Council, Oleksandr VilkulThe number of wounded in the missile attack on Kryvyi Rih has increased to 74. There are currently 34 people in the city’s hospitals, including 3 in grave condition. 

Vinnytsia oblast

​​ In Vinnytsia, the city plans to set up memorials at schools to honour the fallen heroes who studied there.

Almost UAH 110K was raised at a charity race for adults and children in Ladyzhyn, Vinnytsia oblast. It was organised to fundraise for drones for the 46th separate airborne assault brigade.

Kirovohrad oblast

Psychologists of the Kirovograd Rescue Service continue to instruct citizens in first aid.

Poltava oblast

Poltava City Council reported that the City Development Institute in Poltava hosted a life safety training session called “Safety in handling mines and explosive ordnance”. This initiative was supported by the Department of Culture, Youth and Family of the Poltava City Council and was aimed at the youth of Poltava. 

A charity event was held in the Kobeliaky community. The fair raised UAH 16,500 for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Cherkasy oblast

The Department of Humanitarian Policymemorial reported that a memorial stele was unveiled in the yard of Cherkasy secondary school in memory of the school’s graduates who heroically perished in the struggle for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defence forces in the area of Robotyno, Zaporizhzhya region, repelled more than 10 attacks by the russian army. 

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that over the past day, the russian army carried out 90 attacks on 20 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The territories of Gulyaypole, Novoandriivka, Novodanilivka, Bilohirya, Levadne, Robotyno, Zatyshche, Kamianske, Plavni, Stepove and other frontline settlements are under fire. A 51-year-old man was injured. 

Yuriy Konovalenko, Mayor of Polohy, said that in the temporarily occupied town of Polohy, Zaporizhzhia oblast, yesterday, on September 8, at around 17.00, explosions occurred in a building where the occupiers and russian “election commissions” gathered. 

Mykolaiv oblast

On September 9, a delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Ukraine, headed by Mr Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, visited Mykolaiv. Along with the representatives of the diplomatic corps, the heads of Danish private companies visited our city. Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych met with the partners to discuss plans to restore Mykolaiv and deepen cooperation for the city’s economic development.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine,congratulated nearly 50 Ukrainian cities celebrating their day this weekend and assured that Ukraine would not leave a single inch of its land to the occupiers.

Odesa oblast

‘South’ Operational Command reported that as of yesterday evening, no enemy missile launchers were detected on duty in the Black Sea, but the operational situation is changing very rapidly. Therefore, the level of missile and drone threat to Odesa region remains very high. 

The Saratsk community has completed raising money to purchase searchlights for the protection of strategic facilities in the Odesa oblast, as requested by the soldiers of the 182nd Brigade of the military unit A7348, where many community members serve. The total amount needed to purchase the floodlights (UAH 70 thousand) was raised by joint efforts in a fairly short time. The money was transferred as payment to the supplier for the production of the necessary equipment. Soon the defenders of the Bessarabian sky will have it.

According to Odesa City Council, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Italy was opened in Odesa for the first time since Ukraine declared its independence. The consular district covers Odesa, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia oblasts and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. 

Kherson oblast

Around 17:20, therussian army attacked the settlement at least eight times. The shelling caused a household building to catch fire. There were no casualties.

Kherson Regional Military Administration said that the village of Soniachne in the Kherson oblast was shelled by russian troops. One person was killed. 

Southern Defence Forces reported that on  September 8, on the left bank of the Kherson oblast, Ukrainian troops destroyed 28 russian servicemen, three tanks, a cannon, two mortars, five armoured vehicles, one vehicle with ammunition, two electronic warfare kits, two UAVs, two Murom video surveillance systems, a drone control centre and an observation post of russian troops. 

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that on 8 September, russian troops fired 59 times at Kherson region. They hit the territory of a garage co-operative in Kherson and the building of an educational institution in Beryslav region. Three people were killed and eight were injured.

The 25th international theatre festival Melpomene of Tavria has started in Kherson. The anniversary festival will take place from 8 to 16 September under the slogan “We are at home”. Due to the occupation of Kherson last year, the organisers had to change the format of the festival. The participating theatres showed performances on their own stages. This year, the festival returned home again. It began with a mono-performance called “Call Sign ‘Sparrow'” based on Natalia Vorozhbyt’s play “Bad Roads”. The premiere took place in a shelter.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The oblast received 6 devices for inhalation anesthesia from the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine.

A charity event Sports Chronicles of War was held in Lutsk, during which the memory of athletes and coaches who were killed in the war with russia was honored. All funds collected during the charity event will be donated to the needs of the 100th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade.

Zakarpattia oblast

A Council on IDPs was created at Zakarpattia RMA. The Council should help IDPs to adapt as quickly as possible and involve them in participating in community life.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk RMA works with the Council on IDPs. Priorities of the Council’s work are solving problems with housing, employment and business support for IDPs, as well as providing them with the necessary legal and psychological assistance.

Oksana Rubaniak, soldier from Prykarpattia, received the presidential award For the Defense of Ukraine for participation in ensuring the defense of Ukraine, protecting the safety of the population.

Lviv oblast

Lviv Bureau of European Integration and the Ukrainian Voluntary Service NGO signed a memorandum of cooperation on the creation of the National Volunteer Hub. The goal is to create a unique offline and online space to support volunteers and organizations by expanding opportunities and uniting volunteer communities.

Boris Johnson, former British Prime Minister, visited Lviv and laid flowers at graves of soldiers at Lychakiv Cemetery and lit candles in memory of brave soldiers.

The West Ukrainian Specialized Children’s Medical Center and Lviv Regional Children’s Hospital OHMATDYT signed official memorandums on cooperation with foreign clinics. A joint statement on the development of medical partnership was adopted by health ministers of 14 countries at the third Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen

Representatives of the Norwegian Refugee Council held an information session on restoration and compensation for destroyed housing for 12 IDPs, provided 15 legal consultations at the office of the Coordination Center for the Support of the Civilian Population at Strii RMA.

The 14th separate rifle battalion received a Volkswagen Amarok car worth UAH 870K, and Azov received a Ford F-150 worth UAH 1,39 mln from Lviv community.

Over UAH 800K for the purchase of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were collected during a charity evening-auction in Lviv district. The event was organized by Murovan community and the charity project Birds of Victory.

The RMA reported that a night vision device, a sapper’s set and a printer were purchased for compatriots at the front with the funds collected during the charity fair at Barvinok Kindergarten in Horodotsk.

The RMA reported that in the office at Yavoriv RMA, the Caritas Lviv UGCC CF handed over backpacks and stationery for 17 children from among IDPs.

Rivne oblast

For the 12th time, Rivne oblast’s power engineers have set out to restore Kherson oblast’s power grids. Since October 2022, the high-voltage brigade has commissioned 13 35/10 kV substations and repaired over 115 km of damaged 35 kV substations. At the same time, electricity supply was returned to 42 settlements of the oblast.

The staff of Rivne Regional Library for Youth started volunteering from the first days of the full-scale invasion. During the year and a half of the war, the librarians produced almost 3 tonnes of “energy dumplings”. The largest quantity produced per day is 8 kg. This is approximately 160 pieces.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA reported that in Ternopil oblast, the inventory of Invincibility Centers for the supply of generators, fuel, and communication is ongoing. They will resume their work from October 1. Everyone can warm up, charge gadgets or use the Internet there.

In Ternopil, everyone can use shelters in educational institutions from 18 pm to 08 am. At other times, they are available only to participants of the educational process.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In Khmelnytskyi, the bicycle race up Peak of Freedom took place. During the event, funds were collected for the purchase of components for kamikaze drones.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council held a meeting with representatives of the French city of Rueil-Malmaison. They discussed the beginning of cooperation for the development of youth policy, culture and sports.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

G20 leaders agreed on the Delhi Declaration, where they expressed concern about the war in Ukraine and its negative impact on the world economy. The document also emphasizes the inadmissibility of using nuclear weapons and the importance of implementing the grain agreement.

Denmark sent the first 10 Leopard tanks to Ukraine. Denmark also sent its best instructors to Germany to train Ukrainian tankers.

The Ministry of Defense of Lithuania reported that the country sent 1,5 mln units of ammunition to Ukraine. NASAMS missile systems, countermeasures, logistical equipment and other support will soon be sent.

Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, reported that Japan will send 24 cranes for humanitarian demining to Ukraine. In addition, Japanese businessmen presented cooperation projects, in particular, in the fields of communication, infrastructure and medicine.
