It has been the 990th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.
What happened in Ukraine today:
Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:
On 9 November, there were 108 combat engagements in the frontline. The russian army is most active towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove. Ukrainian defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the line and destroying russians’ plans.
A number of settlements in Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts suffered from enemy terrorist attacks. The enemy shelled Pavlivka, Volfyno, Velyka Pysarivka, Zhuravka, Bezsalivka, Uhroids and Leonivka with artillery; Myropillia was hit by air strikes.
According to available information, russian occupiers carried out nine airstrikes in Kursk oblast, dropping 15 guided bombs. Ukrainian troops were also repelling enemy attacks in this area, which totaled 13.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried to advance to Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Kucherivka, Kruhliakivka and Lozova. Two enemy attacks are still ongoing. There were four firefights there. Enemy aircraft attacked Kupiansk with five guided bombs.
The aggressor increased the number of attacks to 14 in the Liman sector. Combat actions took place near Hrekivka, Nevske, Torske and Bilohorivka. Four firefights are ongoing. Enemy bombers struck near Terny and Yampolivka.
Towards Siversk, the enemy was advancing near Verkhnekamianske and launched air strikes with guided aerial bombs near Siversk.
Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled an attack near Bila Hora. The enemy continues to destroy Chasiv Yar with airstrikes, having dropped nine guided bombs and launched unguided aerial missiles.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked six times in the vicinity of Toretsk, Diliivka, Shcherbynivka and Nelipivka. Four attacks were repelled, two more battles are ongoing. The enemy dropped two guided aerial vehicles on Kostiantynivka.
The enemy is still highly active towards Pokrovsk. Clashes of varying intensity started 28 times today. Fighting continues in the vicinity of Promin.
Towards Kurakhove, the situation remains tense. Sixteen attacks were repelled near Illinka, Novoselydivka, Novodmytrivka, Maksymilianivka, Dalne, Katerynivka and Antonivka, and seventeen battles are currently underway.
Towards Vremivka, the aggressor is trying to advance on the positions of Ukrainian defenders near Bohoiavlenka, Trudove and Maksymivka.
Towards Kherson, Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack.
In other areas, the enemy is conducting airstrikes and artillery attacks.
Ukrainian troops are depleting the enemy along the entire front line and in the rear.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy says that this year, Ukraine has produced 100 missile weapons. Production will continue to increase.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reports that in almost 2 months, russia has destroyed and damaged more than 1000 houses in Zaporizhzhia. He also added that about 130 houses were damaged or completely destroyed after the latest shelling.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that at night, russia struck one of the busiest city roads. According to him, as a result of the impact, the road surface, contact lines of the trolleybus, and the street lighting network were damaged. A non-working gas station was destroyed and another one was damaged. The hotel and construction hypermarket were also damaged.
Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community said that around 03:00, the russian military launched an airstrike with two anti-aircraft missiles on a field near Odnorobivka. There were no injuries. A 60-year-old man suffered an acute reaction to stress as a result of the artillery shelling of Prudianka around 10:20. According to the head of the community, as a result of the shelling, at least two private houses, a power line, and cars of local residents were significantly damaged.
Andrii Besedin, Head of the city’s military administration, reports that the russian federation is attacking central entrances to Kupiansk with FPV drones, which makes it impossible to bring humanitarian aid into the city. The last Ukrposhta branch was closed in Kupiansk community, and ATMs stopped working.
Oleh Synehubov, Head of the RMA, reported that two people were killed and one was injured as a result of an airstrike in Kupiansk. A man and a woman died due to broken power lines. The bodies were badly burned, data is being established. A 61-year-old man was also injured. Private homes and multi-apartment residential buildings, commercial premises were damaged, 15 garages were destroyed.

At 2:52, a guided missile GROM-E1 hit the roadway in Kharkiv. As a result of the shelling, the gas station building, glazing of the buildings, a construction supermarket, a two-story residential building, contact lines of the trolleybus and city lighting were damaged. No casualties.
The day before, at 11:50am, in Vovchansk, as a result of the shelling (FPV drone), a 44-year-old volunteer was injured and received a shrapnel wound. The drone fell on the road near the car.
At 3:00pm, the village of Ivashka, Bohodukhiv region was fired upon. As a result of the airstrike, three private houses and farm buildings were destroyed, one private house, farm buildings and power lines were damaged. There are no casualties.
56 people, including 2 children, were evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova directions. Another 7,888 residents of settlements in Kupiansk direction are subject to evacuation.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked Ukrainian defensive lines 4 times near Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy carried out offensive assaults 14 times in the vicinity of Kindrashyvka, Kolisnikivka, Zahryzove, Lozova, and Berestove. Ukrainian defenders repelled 13 attacks, another battle near Berestove is currently ongoing. The vicinities of the settlements of Kivsharivka, Novoosynove and Bohuslavka were hit by airstrikes.
Andrii Besedin, Head of Kupiansk city military administration, says that for the sixth day, the bodies of three people in Kivsharivka remain under the rubble of the entrance, where an aerial bomb hit on the evening of November 3. It is impossible to unblock them because of the extremely difficult situation associated with shelling by reconnaissance UAVs.
Donetsk oblast
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that the number of attacks near Toretsk has increased.russians attacked 10 times within the city limits and near Druzhba, Diliivka, Shcherbynivka, and Petrivka, the day before there were 7 attacks.
The largest concentration of assaults is towards Kurakhove. During the day, the Ukrainian military repelled 40 attacks, in particular, near Ilyinka, Berestky, and Novoselydivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, the russian army tried to advance 36 times near Selidove, Vyshneve, Novotoretske, and Lysivka.
Towards Lyman, the occupiers attacked 12 times.
In October, pyrotechnicians examined 256 hectares, found and neutralized 880 explosive objects in Donetsk oblast. In particular, groups of SNS workers from different regions of Ukraine inspect the fields so that farmers can work.
Anastasia Bobovnikova, Spokeswoman of Luhansk RMA, says that towards Toretsk and Chasiv Yar, russian occupiers continue to accumulate personnel for a future strike.
Operational situation in the region as of the morning of November 9:
Pokrovsk region. In Kurakhove, 1 person was killed and 1 injured, many houses, businesses, administrative buildings were damaged. An infrastructure object was damaged in Udachne community. In Pokrovsk, 2 high-rise buildings and a gas pipeline were damaged.
Kramatorsk region. A house was destroyed in Yampol of Lyman community, another 8 were damaged. A person was injured in Torske of Druzhkivka community.

Bakhmut region. In Siversk, a person was injured, 3 houses were damaged. In Chasiv Yar community, 2 people were injured, 8 private houses, 2 high-rise buildings and an infrastructure object were damaged.
In just one day, russians shelled settlements of Donetsk oblast 7 times. 531 people, including 77 children, were evacuated from the front line.
Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk RMA, says that russians killed 1 resident of Kurakhove. Another 5 people in the region were injured.
Luhansk oblast
Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk RMA, informs that the enemy is massively shelling the positions of Ukrainian defenders and villages located next to the battle line. Yesterday, russians directed 43 drones towards Makiivka and Balka Zhuravka. 16 times they opened fire on these settlements from artillery systems. The enemy tried to attack Hrekivka and Bilohorivka. There were four unsuccessful assaults near the latter.
Luhansk RMA reported that the invaders are gradually getting rid of the traitors who welcomed them joyfully in 2022 and earned positions similar to those they held under the Ukrainian flag. The trend of replacing traitors began several years ago in Luhansk and other cities captured in 2014. No one needs such persons, not even russians. But for some reason the collaborators do not think so and hope that they are special.
The page of the Revenge brigade says that Luhansk border guards destroyed a russian tank T-90M and BTR-2 near Siversk.
The Center of National Resistance informs that border guards repelled the assault of the russian army together with the 10th soldier of the separate mountain assault brigade Edelweiss. In the temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast, russians forcibly enrolled all students in the so-called “movement of the first”, which organizes “massovka” at propaganda events of the occupiers.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
EU High Representative Josep Borrell has arrived in the Ukrainian capital. This is his fifth visit to Kyiv since the start of russia’s full-scale invasion, and his last as High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, who handed over the drones and spoke to the soldiers of the four brigades, said that almost 700 drones of various types were donated by Kyiv community to the defenders in Donbas. All equipment was purchased at the expense of the city budget.
Kyiv hosted a regional all-Ukrainian conference ‘Economic Ukraine: Equality in Remuneration’. The event focused on opportunities for entrepreneurial Ukrainian women: how the state supports women during the war, the economic challenges of the great war and the speakers’ personal experience.
More than 150 entrepreneurs from Kyiv oblast attended the fourth meeting of the Dialogue between Government and Business platform. The meeting was dedicated to supporting business in energy independence. Participants discussed business support programmes aimed at restoring the oblast’s economic potential, adapting entrepreneurs to new conditions and developing infrastructure for industry.
A modern ASC has been opened in Dymer, where more than 19,000 community residents will now be able to receive high-quality and affordable administrative services in a single location. The new premises were created with the support of the United Nations Development Programme and with the financial support of the EU.
Irpin City Council reported that a memorial to the fallen soldiers of the volunteer reconnaissance battalion ‘Sonechko’ was opened in the village of Zabuchchia. The memorial was erected in honour of eight volunteers who were killed on 31 March 2022 during the russian full-scale invasion.
Zhytomyr oblast
Students were taught how to disassemble and assemble weapons, properly aim with the help of command boxes, and provide first aid at Zhytomyr Service Centre. Such exercises will be held weekly in one of Zhytomyr’s educational institutions. Their goal is to provide a practical component of general military training for students in grades 10-11, as well as students of professional and professional-technical schools.
The IX Natalia Skorulska International Choreographic Assembly was held in Zhytomyr. More than 250 dancers from different oblasts of Ukraine came to take part in the dance competition despite the martial law. During the dance competition, donations were collected for Zhytomyr Military Hospital and the city children’s hospital.
Sumy oblast
Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that on 9 November, the russian army launched a ballistic missile strike on infrastructure in Shostka community in Sumy oblast. Emergency response services are on-site, and the extent of the attack’s impact is currently being assessed.
During night and morning, russians carried out 35 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 52 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Yunakivka, Krasnopillia, Myropilia, Biopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Hlukhiv, Shalyhyne, and Esman communities.
On 8 November, russians carried out 57 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 129 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Slobidka, Putyvl, Shalyhyne, Druzhbivka, Seredyna-Buda, and Znob-Novhorod communities.
Khotin community: airstrikes by GAB (2 explosions), mortar shelling (7 explosions), VOG dropping from an unmanned aerial vehicle (1 explosion).
Bilopillia community: VOG drops from UAVs (19 explosions), mortar fire (43 explosions), FPV-drone strikes (3 explosions) took place.
Krasnopillia community: dropping of VOG from UAVs (2 explosions), strikes by FPV-drones (5 explosions), as well as GAB attack (1 explosion) were recorded. As a result of the airstrike, 1 apartment building, 6 private houses, a private shop, 2 pharmacies, premises of a secondary school and a lyceum, and 3 private cars were damaged. 5 civilians were injured.
Nova Slobidka community: a VOG was dropped from an unmanned aerial vehicle (1 explosion).
Yunakivka community: the enemy fired artillery (15 explosions).
Druzhbivka community: the russians dropped 4 mines on the territory of the community.
Sredyna-Buda community: an FPV-drone strike (1 explosion), mortar shelling (4 explosions).
Znob-Novhorod community: the enemy hit by mortars (3 explosions).
Velyka Pysarivka community: missile fire was carried out at NARa (2 explosions), an FPV-drone strike (2 explosions).
Shalyhyne community: russians fired artillery (7 explosions).
Putyvl community: FPV-drone strikes (5 explosions).
Sumy community: the enemy launched a missile attack (ballistic missile) (1 explosion). As a result of the missile attack, 3 civilians were injured, and non-residential premises damaged.
Chernihiv oblast
The russian army attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast. The enemy used FPV-drones, dropped UAVs, barrel artillery, and mortars. In total, 30 explosions were reported.
Novhorod-Siverskyi community:
Towards Mykhalchyna Sloboda: four hits, probably by a 120mm mortar;
Towards Hremiach: six explosions, probably drops from an anti-aircraft missile.
Semenivka community:
On the outskirts of Leonivka village: one explosion, probably by a 120mm mortar;
Towards Hremiachka: four explosions, probably from a 120mm mortar and two explosions, probably by an FPV-drone;
Towards Halahanivka: four explosions, probably drops from unmanned aerial vehicles and two explosions, probably by barrel artillery.
Snovsk community:
Towards Khrinivka village: – six explosions, probably drops from an unmanned aerial vehicle;
Towards Kliusy village: one explosion, probably drops from an unmanned aerial vehicle.
No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported as a result of the shelling.
Talalaiv settlement community and Bakhmat City Council informed that on 9 November, in Chernihiv oblast residents paid tribute to Volodymyr Sova and Vadym Koval, who were killed at the front.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that at night, the occupiers shelled Nikopol with Grad multiple rockets. A 50-year-old man was injured and hospitalised in moderate condition. An enterprise was damaged as a result of the attack. A fire broke out in the Synelnykove region. Infrastructure was damaged.
The enemy attacked Nikopol region about one and a half times during the day. They shelled the area with artillery and kamikaze drones. Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove and Chervonohryhorivka communities were targeted. The shelling caused a fire, damaging 16 private houses, 12 outbuildings, an agricultural company, 3 cars, a petrol station, power lines and infrastructure.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych Head of Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, reported that the Air Force was on alert in Kirovograd oblast at night. In one of the communities of Holovanivka region, fragments of a downed drone damaged several windows in a private house.
Poltava oblast
In Poltava, the Aqua Arena sports complex offers free swimming rehabilitation classes for veterans and combatants. Each person is given an individual approach, depending on their injuries or wounds.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that at night in Cherkasy oblast, defenders destroyed three Shahed drones.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
As reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defence Forces towards Orikhiv repelled 5 russian assaults near Novoandriivka and Novodanylivka.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that on 8 November, the russian military conducted 417 strikes across 14 towns and villages in the oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to the RMA, in the early hours of 9 November, the Air Force in Mykolaiv oblast shot down a Shahed-136/131 drone.
Around 7:40pm, russian forces launched a ballistic attack outside populated areas. There was no infrastructure damage, casualties or injuries reported.
On 8 November at 8:20am, 9:23am and 12pm, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by FPV drones, damaging a private house and a car in Solonchaky village.
Odesa oblast
According to the RMA, a russian drone attack on Odesa caused damage to multiple apartment buildings, private sector homes, administrative buildings, warehouses and vehicles in one of the city’s districts. One person was killed and 13 injured, including 2 boys aged 4 and 16. An entire family was affected: the mother was killed, while the father and the 16-year-old son are in the hospital in moderate condition.

Kherson oblast
According to the State Emergency Service, firefighters extinguished a blaze in Kherson oblast caused by a russian attack. In Beryslav, a drone entered an apartment in a multi-story building and exploded.
The russian forces also shelled 18 settlements in the oblast, targeting an educational institution, a penitentiary facility and a store. 7 apartment buildings and 15 private houses were damaged; 2 people killed and 2 injured.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
Lutsk community sent a DJI Mavic 3T, DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Mavic 3 Pro quadcopter to the Military Unit A 1778. 2 Lenovo Tab P 12 tablets, AGM NVG-50 night vision binoculars and a DJI Mavic 3T quadcopter were sent to the medical service of the Military Unit A 4932.
Zakarpattia oblast
Oleksii Romanko, Head of Sumy Regional Council, paid a working visit to the oblast. Cooperation between oblasts was discussed.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 30 FPV drones to the 59th brigade named after Yakov Handziuk, who are currently defending the Pokrovsk area, thanks to the budget funds.
In Ivano-Frankivsk, an annotation plaque to fallen Hero Dmytro Didenko, assistant grenade launcher gunner of the Mechanised Department of the Mechanised Company of the 60th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, was installed and consecrated on the facade of the house where the military man lived. The soldier was killed on 30 November 2023 in Kharkiv direction from serious injuries incompatible with life.
Lviv oblast
A memorial plaque was installed in Zolochiv region in memory of the fallen Captain Volodymyr Sekh, military of the 13th Separate Motorised Infantry Battalion. He was awarded the III degree Bohdan Khmelnytsky Order by the President of Ukraine. He was killed on 10 March 2024 near the village of Yahidne.
For employees of the structural units of Lviv RMA, training was held on psychological support and assistance in wartime conditions. Participants practised techniques for relaxation and removal of muscle and emotional tension.
Rivne oblast
An unusual musician lives in the village of Verba in Rivne oblast. Denys Haponyuk is only 13 years old, but for a year and a half he has been participating in the saddest mission – playing at the funerals of fallen soldiers. Together with a small orchestra, the boy covers kilometres of the mournful path, paying his last respects to the heroes of Ukraine. The young trumpeter said that he has been playing in the orchestra for about 4 years, at funerals for a year and a half. He plays at funerals because there are no musicians to replace.
Ternopil oblast
The RMA held an online meeting with the management of the county of Powys in Wales. During the conversation, they shared the experience of their regions.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
In Khmelnytskyi, demobilised veterans have the opportunity to convert their own cars, to install special braking and steering systems and additional devices. Financing is carried out from the regional budget. The amount of compensation should not exceed UAH 70,000.
Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated 565 family members of the fallen Heroes to receive benefits for various housing and communal services.
Chernivtsi oblast
The RMA held a meeting with Alexandru Victor Mikula, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine and the Ambassador Extraordinary, and Valeriu Kivere, Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine. Key directions of cooperation, the joint implementation of cross-border projects and the implementation of important initiatives in the development of border infrastructure, investment cooperation at the level of business and oblasts were discussed.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The Council of the EU has extended the mandate of the EU military training mission for the training of the Ukrainian military for two years, over EUR 400m euros will be invested in it. It will last until November 2026. This mission has already trained 63,000 soldiers of the Defense Forces. Another 15,000 fighters will complete their training in the coming months.
Josep Borrell, EU chief diplomat, arrived in Kyiv. This is his 5th visit to Kyiv since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Alexander Stubb, President of Finland. They discussed the successful holding of the thematic conference in Helsinki under item 8ht Environmental Security, as well as further international efforts necessary to restore a just peace for Ukraine.
Iryna Mudra, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, met with Kristina Mikulova, newly appointed Head of the Regional Eastern European Representation of the European Investment Bank. They discussed strengthening cooperation.
