It has been the 690th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

There were 61 combat engagements. The enemy launched a total of 32 missiles and 91 air strikes, 82 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. The russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged.

Air strikes hit Vovchansk, Vesele, Pishchane, Ivanivka, Kharkiv oblast, Nevske, Bilohorivka, Serebryanske forestry, Luhansk oblast, Kolodiazi, Terny, Bihdanivka, Hryhorivka, Keramik, Tonenke, Avdiyivka, Ocheretyne, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Donetsk oblast, Novoandriyivka, Zaporizhzhia oblast, Chervonyi Mayak, Zmiyivka, Beryslav, and Shlyakhove, Kherson oblast.

Over 120 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Mykolaiv oblasts came under artillery fire.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there are no significant changes.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the enemy maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy troops conduct active sabotage activities in order to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened axes. They increase the density of minefields along the state border in Belgorod oblast, russia.

Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy attacks near Synkivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Towards Lyman, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 attacks of the occupiers in the vicinity of Makiivka (Luhansk oblast) and Terny (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Bakhmut, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 2 attacks of the adversary near Klishchiyivka and Andriivka (Donetsk oblast).

Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian defenders continue to hold back the enemy who keeps trying to encircle Avdiivka. The Ukrainian soldiers are standing their ground and inflicting major losses on the invaders. The Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 5 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Novobakhmutivka, Avdiivka, and 15 more attacks near Sjeverne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske (Donetsk oblast).

Todards Mariinka, the Ukrainian troops continue to hold back the enemy near Krasnohorivka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). The Ukrainian defenders repelled 17 attacks in that area. 

Towards Shakhtarsk, the Ukrainian Armed Forces repelled 4 attacks of the enemy  south of Prechystivka, west of Staromaiorske, and south of Rivnopil (Donetsk oblast). 

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 2 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast).

Towards Kherson, the Ukrainian Armed  Forces continue to expand the bridgehead. Despite significant losses, the enemy does not abandon its attempts to push back  Ukrainian troops from their positions. They made 5 unsuccessful attempts to assault the positions of the Ukrainian defenders. 

At the same time, the Ukrainian soldiers continue their active operations to inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation troops, and exhaust the enemy all along the front line. 

The Ukrainian Air Forces launched air strikes on 11 buildups of troops, weapons, and military equipment. Also, the Ukrainian Air Defense forces and means destroyed 7 Kh-101 / Kh-555 / Kh-55 guided missiles and 1 Kh-59 air-launched guided missile.

The Ukrainian rocket toops and artillery hit 3 buildups of troops, weapons and military equipment, 9 artillery systems, 4 air defense systems, 1 ammunition depot, and 1 electronic warfare station of the russian invaders. 

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, russia has carried out 626 chemical attacks. The dynamics of russia’s use of chemical weapons is growing. Up to 10 such cases are recorded daily.

Russia has concentrated 10,000 troops near Krynyk in Kherson oblast. In fact, there is not a single surviving house there, artillery works from one side and the other.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ukrainian defenders repelled three russian attacks near Synkivka and Petropavlivka. According to the report, more than 45 settlements towards Slobozhanske and Kupiansk were under attack.

Ivan Shevtsov, Spokesman of Stalevyi Kordon border guard detachment, reported that soldiers shot down a Rlrussian drone using an anti-drone rifle on 13 January. The drone fell into the bushes near the contact line in Kharkiv oblast and survived. According to him, the drone will be changed and used at the frontline.

Over 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks yesterday, including: Hatyshche, Pletenivka, Vovchansk of Chuhuiv region, Potykhonove, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka, Berestove of Kupiansk region.  Vovchansk of Chuhuiv region, Vesele of Kharkiv region, Pishchane, Ivanivka of Kupiansk region faced enemy airstrikes. 

At about 1:30 am, the invaders shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, with KAB guided bombs. The enterprise was damaged, specifically, two hangars and a leak. There was no information on casualties. As a result of the shelling, there were interruptions in power supply, which has been restored. 

Before 9:30 am, Vesele, Kharkiv region, was shelled by KAB bombs. A private house was damaged. There were no casualties.  

Around 1 pm, the invaders shelled Ivashky, Bohodukhiv region. 3 residential buildings, cars and outbuildings were damaged. There were no casualties. 

At 2 pm, the enemy used mortars to shell Zolochiv, Bohodukhiv region. There were no casualties. 

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community, informed that russians shelled Odnorobivka with artillery in the evening of 13 January. The shelling damaged eight houses, outbuildings, power and gas networks, and a monument to World War II soldiers. According to him, there were no casualties.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 4 enemy attacks near Synkivka, Kupiansk region.

Over the past week, combined teams of bomb experts cleared over 40 hectares of territory in Kharkiv oblast and destroyed 1,531 explosive ordnance. Mine clearance is ongoing.

Donetsk oblast

Volodymyr Fito, Spokesman of the Ground Forces Command, reported that yesterday Ukrainian troops destroyed more than 120 units of russian equipment, including about two dozen tanks and armoured vehicles.

Myrnohrad City Military Administration informed that russian occupation forces launched missiles at night. The shelling damaged residential buildings and infrastructure. There were no casualties.

According to Donetsk Regional Military Administration, specialists of Donetskteplocomunenerho and Donetskoblhaz are completing the liquidation of night accident on the gas pipeline as a result of a brutal enemy attack on Myrnohrad. The shelling damaged 24 metres of the medium-pressure gas pipeline, which resulted in the suspension of gas supply to boiler house No. 94 (heating 920 customers), 504 private sector customers and 142 apartment buildings.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that yesterday russians injured 2 civilians in Avdiivka and Ocheretyne.

Towards Pokrovsk, 2 private houses were damaged in Krasnohorivka. Kurakhove community was under attack 7 times and as a result the industrial area of Kurakhove, Dalne and Berestky were hit. Myrnohrad suffered missile attack, a hotel and 3 houses were damaged.

Towards Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Podilske, Oleksandr-Shultyne, Nelipivka, Molocharka and Predtechyne of Kostiantynivka community were shelled. In Lyman community, 2 houses in Kolodiazne, a non-residential building in Drobysheve and a garage in Lyman were damaged. 

Towards Bakhmut, in Toretsk community, 4 houses were damaged: 3 in Niu-York and 1 in Toretsk. A house was damaged in Siversk.

In total, russians attacked settlements of Donetsk oblast 17 times over the day.

Luhansk oblast

Nevske suffered airstrikes twice in one day. Yesterday around 12 pm, 10 explosions occurred in the village and four more in the evening. Locals were in shelters all day. The aftermath of the destruction are currently being clarified. In total, russians launched 14 air raids, hitting Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest. On the ground, they are trying to put pressure near Makiivka but all these attempts are being repelled by the Defence Forces.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported that in the so-called ‘lpr’, until 1 April, in other words, until the end of the vote count in the presidential elections in russia, the circulation of beer, beer drinks, cider, poiret, mead in polymeric consumer containers with a volume of more than 1500 ml produced in the territory of the ‘luhansk people’s republic’ before 1 January 2024 has been allowed. This means that the sale of alcoholic beverages whose producers have not obtained licences, which had to be obtained during the integration into russian legislation, will continue in the occupied territory.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, more than 80 residents of the buildings affected by the shelling of Kyiv by russian troops on January 2 have received temporary housing. More than five hundred Kyiv residents have applied for financial assistance. In total, 33 houses, 3 schools and 3 kindergartens were damaged in the capital as a result of the russian missile attack. About 400 volunteers cleaned up the aftermath of the shelling. They also helped utilities close more than 1,200 windows in damaged buildings.

Dmytro Kuleba and Stéphane Sejourne, Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and France, during negotiations in Kyiv, discussed further supplies of air defence systems and missiles to Ukraine, Ukraine’s steps towards EU and NATO membership, involvement of new countries in the Peace Formula and development of defence cooperation. 

According to the Kyiv City State Administration, in Kyiv, about 20,000 people took courses in preparing for national resistance. The theory and practice were taught by instructors from the Municipal Guard. They have combat experience. Volunteers are trained free of charge throughout the year.

In Irpin, representatives of the local community’s volunteer units were presented with new rifles as a token of gratitude for their bravery during the fighting in February-March 2022. The new firearms were purchased and delivered at the expense of American sponsors. As part of the Ukrainian Freedom Arsenal project, American cities donate weapons confiscated from their citizens to Ukraine. In August 2022, Irpin police received such an arsenal from Miami. Later, the weapons were donated by the American city of Phoenix.

According to Anatolii Fedoruk, Mayor of Bucha, a hospital for rehabilitation and recovery will be opened in the Bucha community this year, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to receive treatment. The medical facility will be designed and built by AMC Healthcare, an American company that has built dozens of multi-profile medical facilities around the world.

The Ukrainian Volunteer Service announces the National Conference on the temporarily occupied territories called Ukrainians are close to Ukrainians. The event will take place in Kyiv on January 20-21, on the eve of the Day of Unity of Ukraine. The volunteer community, public leaders and activists are invited to participate.

According to Ukrinform, the presentation of the poetry book Rhyme. Time of War, which includes many poems written in the trenches on the front line, was held in Kyiv. The presentation of the book took place at the Media Centre Ukraine.

Zhytomyr oblast

According to the Main Department of the State Tax Service in Zhytomyr oblast, in 2023, taxpayers of the oblast paid more than one billion UAH of military tax to the state budget to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

On January 13, the flag from Zhytomyr’s Soborna Square was unfurled in the Polish city of Wroclaw during a street demonstration in support of Ukraine. Wroclaw became the first city to host the Flag of Life marathon, which aims to unite Ukrainians around the world and raise funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Sumy oblast

According to the Sumy RMA, on January 13, the territory of the Shostka community was attacked by enemy missiles. Several neighbourhoods of Shostka were damaged. There were seven strikes. As a result of the russian attack, 334 apartments were damaged, and windows in two schools and kindergartens were damaged. During the day, almost 600 windows were covered with plastic sheeting and OSB boards, and more than 400 damaged window frames were dismantled.

According to the Sumy oblast police, 1 civilian was injured as a result of the rocket attack on Shostka. 21 apartment buildings, 4 detached houses, 9 vehicles, 2 administrative buildings and 10 outbuildings were damaged. A total of 13 pieces of equipment and 95 personnel were deployed to eliminate the consequences of the russian missile strike. Emergency repair work is underway in the damaged buildings, and damaged windows and balconies are being repaired. A Point of Invincibility has been set up to provide heating to the residents.

Over the past day, russians fired 36 times at Sumy oblast, with 191 explosions. Yunakivka, Myropil, Krasnopillia, Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Esman, Znob-Novhorodske, Shostka, Svesa, Shalyhine, Druzhbivka, Seredyna Buda communities were shelled. The russian military struck with mortars, MLRS, artillery and AGS, used FPV drones, and dropped VOG from UAVs.

According to the Sumy RMA, on the night of January 14, the russian military shelled the Seredyna-Buda community with MLRS. There were 5 explosions.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of the RMA, reported that in Shostka, heat, electricity and gas supplies have been restored to buildings that were damaged by an air strike on January 13. Three headquarters have been set up in Shostka to deal with the aftermath of the strike. The material reserves of the city, oblast and district are being used, and NGOs and the Red Cross are also providing assistance.

Chernihiv oblast

As a result of a russian missile attack on January 13, debris fell in the residential sector of Chernihiv. There were damages to 23 detached houses, 4 shops and an apartment building, where 20 apartments were damaged – balcony frames and windows were smashed. A mobile heating station has been deployed at the site.

According to the Chernihiv border guard detachment, the russian military shelled the Semenivka community on January 13. Border guards recorded eight mortar attacks on Medvedivka.

A civilian local resident was buried in the border village of Kostobobriv, who was killed by a russian subversive reconnaissance group at around 5am on January 10. A milk truck driver found the shot car on the road between the villages of Hremiachka and Leonivka and reported the incident.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council reported that the occupiers shelled Nikopol region all day. 13 attacks, including 11 kamikaze drones. They hit Nikopol and Marhanets community. In Nikopol 3 high-rise buildings, a dozen private houses, three farm buildings, 3 cars and a gas pipeline were damaged. In one of Marhanets community, villages were affected too.

During almost a year of operation of the online Svidok (Witness) online platform, 108 residents of Dnipropetrovsk region gave testimony about russian war crimes.

In Dnipro at Peremoha residential complex, a memorial service was held for those, killed by russian missile attack of a high-rise building, on January 14, 2023.

In Dnipro, an action was held in support of the war prisoners’ families. In Slobozhansk park, one and a half hundred people came out with posters calling to return their relatives from russian captivity.

Vinnytsia oblast

More than UAH 60 K were collected by  Lyubystok folklore band from Budy village of Vinnytsia. The raised funds were transferred to the Patriot public organisation by ATO participants for the drones purchase for the military.

Poltava oblast

Philip Pronin, Head of the RMA announced that more than 700 postcards for our defenders were written by the children of Poltava oblast. The postcards with the warmest wishes have already been delivered to the recipients. They were sent to the defenders of the three military units and to the Reintegration of the Veteran Community Center. 

Cherkasy oblast

An action in support of war prisoners took place in Cherkasy. About a hundred people gathered on the square. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

The russian army launched 146 attacks  on towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast on January 13. They used multiple rocket launchers, artillery, aerial bombardments and 40 drones to attack Huliaipole, Robotyno, Levadne, Poltavka, Novodarivka, Charivne, Novoandriivka, Zatyshshia, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Pyatikhatky.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that two attacks by the russian army near Robotino were repelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces towards Zaporizhzhia on January 13. 

According to the State Border Guard Service, towards Zaporizhzhia, border guards operating UAVs repelled an attack by russian FPV drones. One of them was taken as a trophy. 

Mykolaiv oblast

The enemy once again attacked Ukraine with rockets. Aerial attack means were detected in many regions, including in Mykolaiv oblast.  As a result of intercepting an enemy missile in Bashtanka region, debris fell on the residential sector, igniting a single-story residential building. Firefighters promptly extinguished the fire. 

Yesterday at 12:29, the enemy shelled the waters of Ochakiv community. Occupiers shell Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities almost daily from the territory of the temporarily occupied Kinburn Spit. Earlier, the head of the Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Kim, stated that the russian army’s shelling of Ochakiv serves no military purpose. The occupiers shoot to intimidate and destroy the local population.

The units of the AFU have identified, seized, and neutralized 408 explosive objects since the beginning of the week, from January 7 to January 14. 29 objects were detected and destroyed in Mykolaiv oblast and 379 in Kherson oblast. The territory of 706.18 hectares was cleared of mines (checked), with 703.52 hectares in Kherson oblast and 2.66 hectares in Mykolaiv oblast being demined.

Odesa oblast

The occupiers have deployed 13 ships into the Black Sea, including 5 dock landing ships and 1 surface-to-surface missile carrier. Despite the storm, the enemy has expanded its naval grouping. The frigate “Admiral Makarov,” armed with up to 8 “Kalibr” missiles, has been put on combat duty.

As of today, the exports from Ukraine continue through the ports of Greater Odesa. The Black Sea waters currently host dozens of vessels awaiting their turn for loading. 

Kherson oblast

The police of Kherson oblast reported that in Shlyakhove, a 27-year-old law enforcement officer sustained a concussion as a result of a guided bomb explosion. 

In the morning, in the village of Lvove, the russian army sent a drone at a police car. A 50-year-old police officer was injured and the vehicle was damaged.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that a kamikaze drone attacked a fire brigade unit in Stanislav, Kherson oblast. Four rescuers were injured. They were diagnosed with contusions, explosive and craniocerebral injuries. 

At night, the russian military struck Kherson. A local resident was trapped under the rubble of his house. Rescuers helped him and handed him over to doctors.

Natalia Humeniuk, Head of the Joint Coordination Press Center of Armed Forces of South, reported that on the left bank of the Kherson region, the Defence Forces destroyed a Pantsyr anti-aircraft missile system, eight large-calibre guns, more than ten vehicles and killed five russian army soldiers. 

During the week, the Defence Forces units found and defused 379 explosive devices in Kherson oblast. They checked and cleared an area of 703.52 hectares.

Air command South  reported that Ukrainian air armed forces destroyed a russian reconnaissance UAV Merlin-BR in Kherson oblast. 

Kherson Regional Military Administration said that the russian military fired 103 times at the Kherson oblast. They hit residential areas and port infrastructure. Six people were injured. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council reported that the A4100 military unit, where many residents of the community serve, received 3 DJI MAVIC 3T and 2 DJI MAVIC 3E.

Zakarpattia oblast

Specialists of the Canine Center of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zakarpattia oblast, together with service dogs, continue to perform combat tasks at the front. Demining territories, working at checkpoints to search for explosive objects and weapons, participating in special operations of KORD fighters – all this is only part of their tasks on the front lines.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that the 52nd separate rifle battalion of the 63rd mechanized brigade received a Mavik combo, a Mavik with a thermal imager and 20 FPV drones.

The children of 68 defenders from Kalush community received the Father’s Heart commemorative name pendants-charms. They are made of silver in the shape of a heart. The pendant is framed by a crown of thorns with a drop of blood and was created so that each child of a fallen Hero would carry a piece of their parent’s heart alongside the cross.

Lviv oblast

Novoyavoriv City Council and the Coordination Center at the RMA organized a meeting with the relatives of the killed, missing and captured Community Heroes. From August 2023, the team of the coordination center regularly arranges meetings with specialists who can answer their questions for families of soldiers in various regions of the oblast.

Residents of the village of Stavchany of Obroshinsk community, who suffered as a result of a russian missile attack on August 15, 2023, began to receive compensation for damaged property. Compensation takes place within the framework of the eRecovery program. In total, people submitted 7 applications, for six of them they have already made payments through the Diia mobile application.

Zimvodov Village Council sent a car and FPV drones to the defenders.

Kamianka-Buzka city council sent a set of car tires and 2 batteries for a compatriot who serves in the 71st separate hunting brigade of the Airborne Assault Troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Almost UAH 13K for the needs of the soldiers were donated by young carol singers from the village of Yakymov of Zhovtanets community.

In Strilkivska community, the Mercy CF will distribute food kits for IDPs thanks to the project implemented jointly with Acted Ukraine with the support of the Ukraine Humanitarian Fund.

In the village of Mshanets, 1 259 people sang the There in Bakhmut carol at the same time. 105 nativity scenes participated in the performance. Participants set a record for the largest carol performance in Ukraine and abroad. During the event, UAH 4.7 mln was collected for the needs of the 80th Airborne Assault Brigade. Combat drones will be purchased for them.

Rivne oblast

The 17th IAEA group completed its work at Rivne NPP. Experts from the US and Spain worked at RNPP for three weeks. Specialists of the 18th group are from Spain. They are experts in nuclear security and physical protection. Permanent IAEA missions to Ukrainian nuclear power plants were introduced to monitor the state of security in the conditions of a full-scale war of russia against Ukraine. Last year, over 30 experts of the Agency from different countries of the world visited RNPP.

Ternopil oblast

Last year, recreation and rehabilitation programs for children of military personnel, IDPs, and other social categories were implemented in Ternopil oblast. In July-August 2023, the regional military administration implemented 4 recreation projects for 65 children abroad. Children in need of special social attention and support were rehabilitated with budget funds. During 2023, 2 183 children from privileged categories will be provided with healthcare and recreation. For the wellness campaign in 2023, 824 vouchers were purchased for three children’s wellness and recreation facilities in the region.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that in Khmelnytskyi oblast, another rehabilitation center for spiritual and psychological assistance ADAMANTEI has started its work.

Chernivtsi oblast

The For the Defense of Ukraine award by the President of Ukraine, the Cross of Valor award by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine and the For the Liberation of the City of Izium medal were awarded to Artem Babiichuk, resident of Kelmentsi. He has been defending Ukraine from the moscow occupiers since the first days of the full-scale invasion.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Representatives of 81 countries came to Davos for a meeting on the Ukrainian Peace Formula. 39 European countries, 18 Asian countries, 12 African countries, 6 South American countries, 3 North American countries and 2 Oceanian countries delegated their representatives to Davos. The topic is the next five points of the Ukrainian Peace Formula (withdrawal of russian troops, restoration of justice, environmental security, prevention of escalation and recurrence of war, confirmation of the end of the war). According to the results of the meeting, the format of the Global Peace Summit should be agreed upon.

Sweden will increase the production of 155-mm ammunition for Ukraine. The Swedish government has signed an agreement to increase the production capacity of artillery ammunition with ammunition manufacturer Nammo. Sweden emphasizes that this initiative is the third step in a comprehensive effort to increase the production of artillery ammunition and provide further support to Ukraine.

Joanna Bernsel, Spokeswoman of the European Commission, stated that the EU is confident that they will be able to produce a million shells a year for Ukraine. But they will try to deliver them to Ukraine on time – by the end of March 2024.

Eurostat reported that as of November 30 last year, 4.3 mln Ukrainians had the status of temporary EU protection. The largest number of Ukrainians with temporary protection are in Germany (28.9% of the total number, or 1.2 mln); Poland (22.3%, or 955.1K) and the Czech Republic (8.6%, or 369.3K). Mostly these are women (46.3%), almost a third are children (33.3%), and a fifth are men (20.4%).

The Seznam Zpravy Czech media reported that a 15-year-old student from the Czech Republic wanted to fight with the Armed Forces. He told his parents that he was going to school, and he himself took a foreign passport and went to Ukraine. The Polish police received information from colleagues from the Czech Republic and found out that the boy was in Przemysl. He already managed to cross the border with Ukraine, but thanks to international cooperation, the young man was brought to Poland. The boy should already be at home, in the Czech Ostrava.
