Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. Towards Lyman, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 14 attacks in the vicinities of settlements of Kopanky, Novoserhiivka (Kharkiv oblast), Makiivka, Nevske, Serebryans’ke forestry (Luhansk oblast), and Terny (Donetsk oblast). The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Serebrianka forestry. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10 settlements, including Makiivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Yampolivka, and Zarichne (Donetsk oblast).
Towards Bakhmut, the Ukrainian troops repelled 24 attacks in the vicinities of Verkhnokamianske, Vyimka, Hryhorivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Novyi, and Andriivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy attempted to improve its tactical position in that area. The adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast) and Spirne (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, and Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast).
Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 40 attacks in the vicinities of Novokalynove, Keramik, Arkhanhelske, Umanske, Sokil, Ocheretyne, Kalynove, Soloviove, Novopokrovs’ke, Novoselivka Persha, and Semenivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy attempted to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions in that area. Also, the adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Oleksandropil and Ocheretyne (Donetsk oblast). More than 10 settlements, specifically Arkhanhelske, Sokil, and Novopokrovske (Donetsk oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Novopavlivka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the vicinities of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Vodyane, Novomykhailivka, and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the invaders made 11 attempts to breach Ukrainian defense in that area. Around 10 settlements, specifically Krasnohorivka, Paraskoviivka, and Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast), were under artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Orikhiv, with the air support, the enemy launched 3 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast). Approximately 15 settlements, specifically Malynivka, Bilohiria, Robotyne, and Piatykhatky (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Kherson, the enemy has not abandoned its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. With the air support, the invaders launched 3 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Krynky (Kherson oblast). Also, the adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Kostyrka, Beryslav, Novoberyslav, Prydniprovske, Veletens’ke, and Kizomys (Kherson oblast). Approximately 20 settlements, specifically Ivanivka, Novotyahynka, Veletenske, and Kizomys (Kherson oblast), came under artillery and mortar fire.

Ukraine’s Rocket Forces hit 1 command post of the russian invaders.
On 27 April, russia fired 20 times at Sumy region. This was reported by the military administration of the Sumy region. One of the communities was hit by 16 mines.
DTEK CEO Dmitry Sakharuk announces that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, russia has shelled Ukrainian thermal power plants almost 180 times. He also noted that the attack on April 27 was the fourth major attack after the attacks on March 22 and 29 and April 11.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the defence forces repelled russian attacks near three settlements in Kharkiv oblast over the day: Berestove, Kopanka and Novoserhiivka. Velyka Pysarivka suffered an airstrike and about 10 settlements were hit by artillery and mortar attacks.
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi informed that russians had a partial success near Berestove. He noted that the main areas of concentration of the enemy’s efforts towards Kupiansk are Stelmakhivka and Berestove villages. The enemy had partial success there, but was stopped by the actions of our units. Towards Kharkiv, russia is increasing the number of troops and regrouping. In the most dangerous areas, our troops have been reinforced with artillery and tank units.
Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community, stated that the russian military launched airstrikes on the community during the last air alert. One of the munitions exploded outside the settlements. A 52-year-old resident of Kupiansk was hospitalised with a stomach wound he sustained as a result of a russian strike at 10:50am. The press service of Kharkiv Regional Military, confirmed that russians hit a private house and before the arrival of the State Emergency Service, a 36-year-old woman was saved from the rubble and treated on the spot.
According to the press service, at 9:50am, russia shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, damaging two private houses.
On 28 April, there was another rally in support of prisoners of war from Mariupol garrison in Kharkiv. The main goal of the rally was to remind people about Mariupol defenders who have been held captive for 23 months.
Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, informed that there were no attacks on Kharkiv.
About 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks yesterday: Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane and others. Strilecha, Synelnykove and Vovchanski Khutory were hit by airstrikes.
At 1pm, an enemy FPV drone hit a truck in Vovchansk. Two drivers aged 53 and 59 were injured and hospitalised.
At 12:50pm, Blahodativka village of Kindrashivka community, Kupiansk region, was hit and as a result of the shelling from MRLs, 20 outbuildings were damaged.
On 27 April, at 11:20am, a building of a kindergarten was shelled by a KAB in Vovchanski Khutory village, Chuhuiv region.
Yesterday the enemy attacked our positions 13 times near Kyslivka, Berestove and Kopanky towards Kupiansk.
88 children with their families were evacuated from certain settlements of Bohodukhiv, Izium and Kharkiv regions: Zolochiv community – 15; Borova community – 4; Derhachi community – 39; Lyptsi community – 30.
Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 37.45 hectares of territory and destroyed 560 explosive ordnance.
Donetsk oblast
Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that the Defence Forces units have moved to new positions to the west of Berdychiv, Semenivka and Novomykhailivka and this was done to save the lives and health of Ukrainian servicemen.
Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia operational-strategic group, informed that the Defence forces control two-thirds of Krasnohorivka. The part of the settlement, where the russian army broke through, is under Ukrainian fire control.
Donetsk police confirmed that Krasnohorivka is under round-the-clock shelling. On 27 April, russian troops dropped an UMPB D-30SM guided missile on Novozhelanne.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that border guards of the Pomsta (Revenge) brigade in Bakhmut axis destroyed a russian Orlan-10 drone that was flying over the positions of the Fenix (Phoenix) unit.
Oles Maliarevych, Deputy Commander of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade Battalion, said that Ukrainian soldiers recently drove russians away from their positions south of Ivanivske.
Anastasiia Miedviedieva, Spokeswoman of the regional Prosecutor’s Office, stated on Suspilne Donbas that on 28 April, russian troops shelled Tarasivka village, allegedly by a Smerch multiple rocket launcher system. Private houses were damaged.
The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 28 April is as follows:
Towards Pokrovsk, in Marinka community, two people were injured in Krasnohorivka, and Katerynivka and Kostiantynivka were shelled. The outskirts of Hrodivka community were under attack.
Towards Kramatorsk, Terny, Yampolivka, Zarichne and Ozerne of Lyman community and Stupochky, Predtechyne, Markove, Chervone and Mykolaivka of Kostiantynivka community were shelled.
Towards Bakhmut, 10 private houses and 2 apartment buildings were damaged in Chasiv Yar community. 4 houses were damaged in Siversk.
In total, russians attacked settlements in Donetsk oblast 5 times yesterday. 126 people, including 12 children, were evacuated from the frontline.
Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday russians injured 2 civilians in Krasnohorivka.
Luhansk oblast
Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that the Defence Forces of Ukraine have managed to improve their tactical position near Serebrianka forestry towards Lyman. He noted that the russian army is trying to take advantage of its superiority in air, missiles and artillery ammunition and aims to reach the administrative border of Luhansk oblast.
The invaders have significantly increased the number of assaults and shelling of our positions and settlements. Yesterday Novoiehorivka and Stelmakhivka were targeted. There was fighting near Nevske and in Serebrianka forest. The enemy launched airstrikes on Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest.
More than 60 artillery and mortar attacks on frontline settlements were also recorded.
Hrekivka, Nevske, Kuzemivka, Stelmakhivka and Makiivka were under russian attack.
14 enemy UAVs targeted the territory of Nevske and Kuzemivka.
According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, mass events have been banned in the so-called “lpr”. From now on, every event where more than 50 people are planning to gather requires permission from local fsb branches, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the military commandant’s office. These restrictions will continue “until the end of martial law”.
Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, informed that in educational institutions in the temporarily occupied territories, representatives of the zvanie russian propaganda organisation are teaching children yet another updated russian version of modern history with anti-Western mindsets. They convince them that Nazism prevails in Ukraine and recruit them to join the “youth army”.

Kyiv oblast
At night on 28 April, the enemy attacked Ukraine with 4 Shahed-131/136 UAVs, 5 unidentified drones and an S-300 anti-aircraft guided missile. As a result of combat operations in Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, and Kirovohrad oblasts, all four Shaheds were destroyed. Another drone was shot down in Mykolaiv oblast.
The National Police reported an explosion at night of 28 April near a high-rise building in Sviatoshynskyi district of Kyiv. Allegedly, it was a grenade explosion. Two men were hospitalized.
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the Kyiv RMA, announced that the 72nd Brigade named after the Black Cossacks received a new batch of FPV drones, purchased at the cost of Bila Tserkva community.
The second season of sports and rehabilitation tournaments Kyiv Unbreakable started in the capital. Mayor Vitalii Klychko informed that 180 veterans from ten regions of Ukraine and more than 150 servicemen and cadets of various AFU branches took part in this year’s competition.
At the initiative of Jamala, Ukrainian singer of Crimean Tatar origin, and the Book Country festival, a Crimean corner has appeared in the Exhibition of Economic Achievements (now Expocenter of Ukraine) in Kyiv. The exhibition aims to familiarize the guests with the Crimean Tatar culture and history of Crimea. Visitors can listen to a vinyl album of authentic Crimean Tatar folk songs by the Shevchenko Prize-winning singer QIRIM, read books related to the history of Crimea, and take photos in the installation with Crimean plants.
The Museum of War press service reported that 10 new Toyota Land Cruiser 79 pickup trucks were handed over to demining teams of the State Special Transport Service. The vehicles were purchased and transported to Ukraine as part of the international Stabilization Platform initiative.
Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn said that on the day of twinned cities, the community received a new Fiat Ducato passenger minibus as a gift from a delegation from the twin city of Borna.
Zhytomyr oblast
According to Zhytomyr RMA, border guards received a Mercedes Vito minibus from volunteers from Intercession of the Holy Virgin. In addition, soldiers of the airborne assault troops received another batch of FPV drones.
Sumy oblast
The russian army damaged 4 private houses, a gas pipeline and power lines in Nova Sloboda village, and the power grid in the village of Bilokopytove in Hlukhiv community.
Due to shelling in Sumy oblast, 1.500 residents in 11 settlements were cut off from power supply. 5.300 metering points in 75 settlements remain without power.
At night, russians fired at Yunakivka community with a machine gun (5 rounds).
SES pyrotechnics destroyed 5 explosive ordnance in Sumy, Okhtyrka, Shostka and Konotop regions.
Chernihiv oblast
Over the past day, russian troops attacked 4 villages in Chernihiv oblast using various types of weapons with a total of 5 attacks (31 explosions) recorded.
Doctors and nurses of Chernihiv Maternity Hospital joined a charity initiative and became donors at the regional blood center.
A century-old mazanka school was restored in Bryn community of Chernihiv oblast thanks to the initiative of the school’s director, Svitlana Hrosh. The interior of the renovated building was modernised. Artist Sofiia Kandurova decorated clay walls with a vine-shaped ornament. She studied local ornaments and created the one typical of Chernihiv oblast. Local residents, students, teachers, and the authorities helped with materials, and volunteers from Heritage. UA took part in the restoration.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that air defence forces were heard in Dnipro region at night. The defenders of the sky shot down 2 enemy drones. The enemy also launched 2 kamikaze drones at Nikopol. A private house caught fire. According to the updated data, a house, an outbuilding and 1 power line were damaged in Dnipro region yesterday.
The enemy attacked Nikopol region with artillery twice during the day. The region’s centre and Pokrovsk community were hit. In total, the occupiers fired a dozen shells. In Nikopol, 5 private houses and 3 outbuildings were damaged.
Relatives of prisoners of war from Mariupol garrison organized a motorcycle rally in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast. More than 10 motorcycles and the same number of cars were travelling through the region. According to the organizers, they want to remind the public about the Ukrainian prisoners of war who have been in captivity for almost two years.
In Kamianske, rehabilitation for children and the military is provided at the Ataman horse farm. This year, for the first time, funds have been allocated from the city budget to implement the programme.
Vinnytsia oblast
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, air defence forces shot down Shahed drones in Vinnytsia oblast at night.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad RMA, reported that 4 combat UAVs and 1 unidentified drone were destroyed by defenders of Ukrainian skies in Kirovohrad oblast last night.
The action “Do not be silent. Captivity kills! The third spring in captivity” was held in Kropyvnytskyi. 200 people came to Maidan Heroes Square to draw attention to missing soldiers and prisoners of war. Participants held posters with the words “Free Azov” and “I dream of hugging my son”.
Сherkasy oblast
A silent demonstration in support of prisoners of war was held on Soborna Square in Cherkasy. Concerned citizens, families of the military, public figures and volunteers with flags and posters came out to remind the public of the soldiers who are now in captivity.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, says that on 27 April, there were 335 enemy strikes on seven cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 129 drones of various modifications attacked Huliaipole, Verkhnia Tersa, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, and Novoandriivka. No casualties were reported.
Referring to the State Emergency Service, three fires broke out in Polohy region due to russian attacks. Residential buildings were on fire in Mala Tokmachka and Huliaipole, as well as an outbuilding in the village of Prymorske. No casualties were reported.
Mykolaiv oblast
The Ukrainian Air Force reports that on the night of 28 April, russian forces attacked Ukraine with four Shahed-131/136 strike drones launched in Cape Chauda in the temporarily occupied Crimea and five drones of an unspecified type launched in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. One drone of an unidentified type was destroyed in Mykolaiv oblast.
Also, the enemy attacked the oblast with a guided missile system S-300 from Belgorod oblast. The Air Defense Forces failed to intercept it.
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration informs that as the result of these attacks a hotel building was damaged and caught fire. Windows were broken in another nearby hotel, cars and infrastructure were damaged. High and low-pressure gas pipelines were hit. The extent of the damage is being clarified.
The press service of Nibulon reports that in Mykolaiv oblast, ways are being explored to evacuate the fleet (over 100 ships docked in ports) and resume the shipping industry. Ugent needs of the shipping industry were discussed during the conference “Reconstruction of Ukraine: why it should not be postponed until victory”. The event was organized by the Economic Truth publishing house in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure.
Odesa oblast
According to the State Emergency Service, Odesa rescuers received two firefighting and rescue vehicles, namely a fire pump truck and a tanker truck, from Howard Buffett’s charitable foundation. These vehicles will be used by the units of the State Emergency Service of the region. It is worth noting that since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the foundation has already provided Odesa rescuers with 36 fire trucks, 10 high-mobility pickups, and 5 pneumatic frame tents with autonomous heating and air conditioning systems.
On 28 April, a charity run organized by the Seaside Runners Ods public organization was held in Odesa to raise money for the military. Approximately 400 runners of all ages, both professionals and amateur, from various Ukrainian cities, ran around Peremohy Park in the name of victory. The public organization has organized over 15 events and raised about UAH 500,000 for humanitarian needs. This time, the run was for the soldiers of the 44th separate mechanized brigade.
Kherson oblast
Since the morning, the russian military reportedly dropped 11 cluster munitions on Beryslav, Novoberyslav, Kostyrka, Prydniprovske, Veletenske, and Kizomys. No casualties were reported.
Southern Defense Forces eliminated 119 occupiers, destroyed 55 pieces of russian armament and military equipment. Among them were BM-21 MLRS, a tank, 17 cannons, two mortars, 25 units of armoured vehicles, three electronic warfare systems, two Orlan-10 drones, two aerial photo stations, four field supply stations, and three observation posts.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, says that on 27 April, russian troops shelled 19 settlements in Kherson oblast. Kherson city was attacked with missiles; aerial strikes with cluster bombs targeted Beryslav and Kherson regions. A higher education institution, a critical infrastructure object, an agricultural enterprise, farm buildings, a garage, cars, two multi-storey buildings, and eight private houses were damaged. Three people were injured.

Volyn oblast
As part of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between Lutskteplo and USAID through the Energy Security Project, Lutsk received a second cogeneration plant to supply power to one of the company’s boiler houses. This Memorandum provides for the transfer of two gas cogeneration plants (CGU) to supply power to two boiler houses in the neighbourhood.
Zakarpattia oblast
A tour of Uzhhorod was organized for wounded soldiers undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in the city’s medical facilities. About 20 soldiers from different regions of Ukraine and from various military units were exposed to the history of Uzhhorod, learned many interesting facts, walked along the streets and embankment and made a wish near the monument to Mykolaichyk.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
31 children of defence personnel killed in action are headed to the Carpathians for recovery. They will stay for 10 days at the Chevalier Panorama Hotel in Yablunytsia. This is the first children’s vacation trip held under the Rehabilitation Program for Children of Fallen Heroes – 2024 within the framework of the Care for the Hero’s Family project.
The campaign to plant trees in memory of defenders has come to an end. This is the second time the city has implemented the green initiative. This year, the residents received 175 trees of various species to be planted in their yards and adjacent neighbourhoods.
Lviv oblast
In oblast, 73 local automatic centralised notification systems have been established and are functioning in all communities. By December 31, 2024, seven such regional systems will be in place. The total number of systems installed in Lviv oblast will be 80.
The RMA reported that Vladyslav Borshchuk, Chief Sergeant of one of the airborne assault companies of the 80th Galicia Brigade, received the Cross of Combat Merit award personally by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine.
A soldier of one of the airborne assault companies of the 80th Galicia Brigade, together with his mother, was awarded the Golden Star Order of the Hero of Ukraine (posthumously). This award is presented for his brother, Senior Sergeant Ivan Pavlyshyn, who was killed in action near Bakhmut. The soldier defended Ukraine as a member of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo.
Families of fallen defenders visited the castle and monastery in Zolochiv region thanks to the rector of the Church of St. App. Peter and Paul, the Department of Culture, Nationalities and Religions of Lviv RMA and the I Am Not Alone NGO.
Rivne oblast
Free dental prosthetics for veterans begins in Rivne oblast. Contracts with the National Health Service of Ukraine have been initiated in four medical facilities.
A collection of short stories “Valley of Gods” by 22-year old soldier Vladyslav Kondratiuk was presented in Rivne. This book was published after its author was killed in action 2 years ago, defending Ukraine from occupiers. Stories in the collection were written before the start of the full-scale invasion.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil City Council reported that the community sent Easter parcels with food, goodies, teas, children’s drawings, hygiene products, etc. to one of the front-line hospitals where Ternopil soldiers are being treated.
The title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Ternopil was awarded posthumously to Serhii Trishkaliuk, Kuts Taras, Konoval Serhii, Petryshyn Taras, Vitalii Maliuk and Yaroslav Pelekhaty for a significant personal contribution to the formation of Ukrainian statehood and personal courage and heroism.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
The RMA reported that at night, during the air alarm signal, the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed an enemy UAV. There have been no reports of casualties or damage.
Chernivtsi oblast
It is reported that RMA representatives went to the front line. They visited the 456th Separate Infantry Battalion and the 37th Separate Rifle Battalion. Dji Mavic 3 drones, FPV drones, Starlink satellite Internet stations, EcoFlow charging stations, generators, medicines, necessary household items and food were handed over to the defence personnel. In addition to the aid, defenders were handed well-deserved awards from Chernivtsi RMA.
The Veteran’s Space (hub), the Center for Vitality, and specialised support services for victims of domestic violence and/or gender-based violence will function in Khotyn. They will provide social services not only to residents of Khotyn and other communities. Corresponding agreements have already been concluded with Mamalyha and Nedoboiv communities.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The Ministry of Defense of Belgium reported that the country will allocate €200m for the German initiative to supply air defence systems. The Ministry also reported that Belgium will try to speed up deliveries of F-16s to Ukraine.
Richard Marles, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Australia, announced that the country will provide a new aid package for Ukraine worth $100m. Of this amount, $50m will be directed to anti-aircraft defence, and $30m – for the purchase of drones within the “drone coalition”, which was created at the initiative of Great Britain and Latvia. The rest of the amount will go to other necessary things for the army. Australia will also provide Ukraine with air-to-ground ammunition.
Japan will supply Ukraine with 100 130 MW generators. This was agreed during the meeting of the delegation led by Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy, with the leadership of the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Laurinas Kasiunas, Minister of Defense of Lithuania, announced that the country plans to purchase air defence radars for Ukraine.
