It has been the 796th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

During the day of 29 April, there were 93x tactical engagements.

The enemy launched a total of 4x missiles and 35x air strikes, 56x MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have wounded civilians. Residential apartment blocks and private houses, as well as other infrastructure, got destroyed and damaged.

Volyn and Polissia axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the russian areas bordering Ukraine. The enemy conducts subversion, continues shelling of Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the concentration of mining operations along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Leonivka (Chernihiv oblast). More than 20x settlements, including Leonivka, Yeline (Chernihiv oblast), Lukashenkivske, Velyka Berizka, Romashkove, Veselivka, Uhroidy, Stepok, Pokrovka (Sumy oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Kupiansk and Lyman axes: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 7x attacks in the vicinities of Novoserhiivka (Kharkiv oblast), Stelmakhivka (Luhansk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10x settlements, including Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 9x attacks supported by enemy air strikes in the vicinities of Tverdokhlibove, Nevske, Serebrianka forestry (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Torske and south of Zarichne (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Makiivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Yampolivka, Torske (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 27x attacks in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Verkhnokamianske, Novyi, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, with air support, attempted to improve its tactical position. More than 10x settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast).

Avdiivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 18x attacks in the vicinities of Arkhanhelske, Novokalynove, Ocheretyne, Sokil, Soloviove, Semenivka, Orlivka (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, using air attacks, made attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions. The adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Vozdvyzhenka, Kalynove, Novopokrovske, Yevhenivka (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Keramik, Arkhanhelske, Sokil (Donetsk oblast).

Novopavlivka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), where the invaders, with air support, made 15x attempts to breach Ukrainian defence. The invaders launched air strikes in the vicinity of Paraskoviivka and Oleksandropil (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Paraskoviivka, Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast).

Orikhiv axis: the enemy, using air attacks, launched 5x assaults on positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast) and Novodarivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Enemy air strikes hit the vicinity of Makarivka (Donetsk oblast) and Mala Tokmachka (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 15x settlements, including Bilohiria, Robotyne, Kamianske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), were under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.

Kherson axis: the enemy does not abandon its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. In particular during the day of 29 April, the invaders executed 1x unsuccessful assault on positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Krynky (Kherson oblast). The adversary launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Mykhailivka, Lvove, Kizomys (Kherson oblast). The occupiers fired artillery and mortars at around 20 settlements, including Beryslav, Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Novotiahynka, Tokarivka, Antonivka, Stanislav (Kherson oblast).

During the day of 29 April, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 5x concentrations of enemy troops.

The Ukrainian Missile Forces hit 1x concentration of russian troops.

DTEK’s Executive Director Dmytro Sakharuk reported that russia has shelled Ukrainian thermal power plants 180 times since the start of the full-scale invasion. The enemy shelling on 27 April was the fourth major attack after similar attacks on 22, 29 March and 11 April. The consequences of the attack on 27 April are being analysed: the damage is heavy. 4 stations suffered quite significant damage.

Air Force Spokesman Illia Yevlash informed that Ukraine is preparing a set of measures to protect the F-16 fighter jets when they arrive at the airfields. This is a huge amount of money that will be spent on underground storage facilities and bunkers. Therefore, methods are now being developed on how they can be placed. Distributed deployment of aircraft on different types of runways, where it will be difficult for russians to detect F-16s. For this purpose, a different set of methods will be used to mislead the invaders.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that at around 6pm, the invaders attacked Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv. The russian army also targeted settlements in Kharkiv oblast with at least KAB bombs.  A 42-year-old man was injured and hospitalised with an explosive injury and shrapnel wounds.

At 2am, russians shelled Zahryzove village of Borova community, Izium region. A private house was damaged as a result of the shelling.

Yesterday about 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered artillery and mortar attacks: Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane and others. Velyka Pysarivka were hit by airstrikes.

At 8:30pm, a 48-year-old man tripped a Butterfly mine in his yard in Bairak village of Balakliia community. He was hospitalised.

At 3:20pm, russians shelled Strilecha village of Lyptsi community, Kharkiv region, a 59-year-old man was injured as a result of hostile shelling.

At 10:50am, a private household was destroyed as a result of shelling from an MRLs in Kupiansk. A 35-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man were injured.

At 9:20am, 2 private houses were damaged during the artillery shelling and a private enterprise was damaged as a result of the drop of a KAB bomb in Vovchansk.

Yesterday the enemy attacked our positions 6 times near Berestove towards Kupiansk. Towards Lyman, the enemy attacked our positions 14 times, including within the oblast, near Kopanka and Novoserhiivka.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 5.85 hectares of territory and destroyed 20 explosive ordnance.

In Staryi Saltiv settlement, 13 apartment buildings are being restored. Upon completion, locals, who lost their previous homes as a result of russian aggression, will receive new homes.

The press service of Ukrzaliznytsia reported that the kitchen train is preparing food for patients at Kharkiv Psychiatric Hospital, where the canteen was damaged by russian strikes on the night of 27 April. Cooking will continue until the hospital’s facilities are restored. Also russians also damaged a building housing 60 patients and five hospital staff.

Kharkiv street art artist Hamlet Zinkivskyi created an exposition titled “Concrete crumbles against our iron”. He painted a carriage on which a concrete bridge destroyed by russian troops had fallen at the railway station in Lyman.

Donetsk oblast

The press service of Donetsk police reported that the occupation forces shelled 7 settlements: Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove, Chasiv Yar cities, Zhelanne settlement, Zelene Pole, Ptyche and Tarasivka villages. The enemy attacked the oblast 2,325 times. 15 civilian objects were damaged, including 10 residential buildings, educational institutions, a car, a gas pipeline and a power line.

Also russia dropped an UMPB D-30 SM guided aerial bomb on Ptyche, injuring a man and damaging 4 private houses.

Two more civilians were injured as a result of artillery shelling in Krasnohorivka and Zhelanne.

The russian army attacked Tarasivka by Smerch multiple rocket launchers, damaging two private houses, two educational institutions, a car, and disrupting communications. Three houses were damaged in Zelene Pole.

Then the military saw her on the road and took her to the White Angel unit. Lidiia Stepanovna walked all day, without food or water, and collapsed several times. In the middle of the fighting, the pensioner survived. Lidiia was placed in a shelter and later her granddaughter took her home.

Luhansk oblast

Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that towards Lyman, the Defence Forces managed to improve their tactical position near Serebrianka forest.

 

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the enemy continues ground pressure along the entire frontline. Specifically, towards Kupiansk, it is Stelmakhivka and towards Lyman, in addition to the forest, it is Makiivka and Nevske. The invaders are trying to take advantage of the air superiority and the amount of artillery ammunition. Also russians launched airstrikes on Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest.

 

Hrekivka, Nevske, Kuzemivka, Stelmakhivka and Makiivka were under mortar and artillery attack.

 

On Sunday, the liberated Nevske and Novoliubivka received items requested by the villagers.

 

The invaders are intensifying their pressure on school students in the occupied Luhansk oblast. Recently, educational institutions received a document from the so-called “ministry of education and science of the lpr” with recommendations on how to conduct educational work with high school students on preventing possible cooperation with Ukrainian special services and “pro-Western organisations”. The protest moods of students and teachers will also be monitored on a regular basis.

 

At the exit from Rubizhne, the russian military not only thoroughly inspected and checked identity documents. It is now impossible to leave the city without a relevant note from the military commissariat.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg arrived in Kyiv with an unannounced visit. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They discussed the initiative to create a special fund to invest €100bn in Ukrainian defence support over a five-year period.

Ruslan Stefanchuk, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, announced after the meeting with the Polish MPs that members of the Polish Sejm and Senate representing the parliamentary friendship group between the two countries, paid a working visit to Ukraine.  Among other things, the parliamentarians discussed Ukraine’s path to the European Union and NATO.

Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has issued charges against a deputy platoon commander of a special forces unit of the russian National Guard in Krasnoyarsk krai. He is suspected of violating the laws and customs of war. The investigation found that on 25 February, 2022, in occupied Hostomel, the accused and his colleagues received an order from their commander to kill civilians.

Kyiv RMA reported that a residential multi-storey building with 16 apartments was restored in Myrotske thanks to UNHCR and the GEM Foundation. The building that used to be home to 50 people before the war was destroyed in the spring of 2022.

Estonian MP Kristo Ann Vaga is riding a bicycle from Tallinn to Kyiv. In this way, he is collecting donations for the Defence Forces. All the money raised will be spent on vehicles and FPV for the Ukrainian military. In total, the cyclists will cover about 1,700km during the trip.

Zhytomyr oblast

500 veterans and family members of fallen soldiers have received assistance during four months of Veterans Hub’s operation in Berdychiv. Furthermore, the hub provides veterans with the opportunity to undergo professional retraining, which facilitates their integration into society. The hub also includes two rooms for psychosocial meetings and services.

Sumy oblast

According to Sumy RMA, russians fired 6 times at Krasnopillia and Esman border communities at night and in the morning. A total of 41 mortar and artillery attacks were recorded.

Yesterday the russian military attacked Sumy oblast 35 times, with a total of 127 explosions recorded. 10 communities in the oblast were shelled: Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nova Sloboda, Esman, Shalyhyne, Shostka, Seredyna-Buda. The enemy launched 4 NAR missiles, attacked with artillery, mortars, MLRS, FPV drone, and dropped ammunition from UAVs.

Andrii Demchenko, Spokesman for the State Border Guard Service, informed that the highest activity of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups is currently observed in Sumy oblast. According to his report, a few days ago border guards recorded an attempt by an enemy subversive reconnaissance group of more than 10 people to enter the region. The group was exposed during the attempt to mine the border roads, involved in a firefight and forced to run to the border.

Based on the reports by acting head of Myropillia community Olena Sharkova, several people were injured in the Myropillia community as a result of a mine explosion on 29 April.

According to the State Emergency Service, local bomb squads destroyed 36 pieces of ammunition found in Sumy, Okhtyrka, Konotop and Shostka regions over the past week. 354 explosive items have been found this year.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of RMA, announced the launch of “Let’s Close the Sky of Sumy oblast” project. The RMA signed a Cooperation  Memorandum with the Together for Ukraine charitable foundation representatives. To date, the foundation has already provided assistance to the military and civilians worth more than UAH 65m, donated 21 vehicles and made 168 deliveries.

In Sumy oblast, a project aimed at immortalising the memory of the fallen soldiers who gave their lives for Ukraine’s independence, “the Memory Code”, was presented. The project involves the creation of an information website about the fallen soldiers, their photos and memorial videos, as well as the installation of memorial plaques in the places where the heroes lived, studied or worked.

Chernihiv oblast

According to the SBGSU report, over the past day, russian troops attacked seven villages in Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk communities 11 times, with a total of 59 explosions recorded. The enemy fired from a multiple launch rocket system, cannon artillery, mortars and a drone. 

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of RMA, reported that last week air defence units shot down a russian cruise missile in the sky over Chernihiv oblast. No damage or losses were suffered as a result of the falling debris. According to him, over the past week, russians attacked 19 settlements of Chernihiv oblast 54 times with a total of 321 attacks recorded, including four airstrikes.

Mobile medical teams and mobile pharmacies are actively working in Chernihiv oblast. Based on the information provided by the RMA, more than a thousand people have already used the medical teams services, while the mobile pharmacies enabled remote villages residents to purchase medicines based on 286 prescriptions within the Affordable Medicines program.

The deadline for submitting projects for the shelter construction, repair, and renovation funded by the state subvention has passed. 11 applications were received from 10 communities in Chernihiv oblast. The next stage is project defence.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of RMA, announced that 11 schools in 9 oblast communities will soon launch their solar power plants thanks to international support. The necessary equipment has already been installed.

Latvia has decided on the regional support directions this year. These are educational institutions and modular buildings furnishing, as well as block-modular boiler station provision for educational institutions.

Ile-de-France region is planning a second forum to rebuild Chernihiv.

With the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian Decide project, the shelter at the school in Pryluky has been repaired.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

 

In the evening, the enemy shelled Nikopol with artillery. The impact smashed the windows in the local gymnasium. A fence and a power line were damaged. There were no casualties.

 

During the day, the occupiers shelled Nikopol region 5 times. They launched 3 kamikaze drones and about 15 artillery shells, shelling the settlements of Pokrovsk and Marhanets communities, damaging a private house, an outbuilding and a power line in the latter.

Vinnytsia oblast

 

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov reported that Vinnytsia community handed over 60 FPV drones to the assault brigade. The community is currently helping more than 30 military units. The defenders receive the necessary equipment: thermal imagers, drones, cars, spotlights and charging stations. 

Kirovohrad oblast

A large family from Svitlovodsk donated their car to the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Seredenko family, parents and three children, have been living in Germany for over 2 years. Another eldest son lives in Ukraine. The car was driven to Ukraine from Germany by the family’s father.

Poltava oblast

 

Filip Pronin, Head of Poltava RMA, reported that explosions were heard in Myrhorod region. There were no casualties or hits to civilian or critical infrastructure.

Cherkasy oblast

There are already 126 safety classes in Cherkasy oblast. A new safety class was opened at a school in Budyshche community, where children will be taught how to act in case of various threats, and take care of themselves and others. Fires, road accidents, explosive findings, rocket attacks and other dangers are the procedures that must be worked out to the point of automation. Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, announced that at least 40 more safety classes are planned to be opened together with the regional SES, communities and educators. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday the occupiers launched 346 strikes on 10 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The russian military personnel carried out a missile strike on Zaporizhzhia and launched 6 airstrikes on Vesele, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne. 118 UAVs targeted Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka. 5 MLRS shelling hit Levadne, Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne. There were 216 artillery strikes on Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Levadne, Malynivka, Luhivske, Verbovе and Stepnohirsk. 12 reports about housing demolitions were received. One man was injured during enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia oblast.

It is reported that occupiers attempted 4 assaults in the area of Staromaiorske towards Orikhiv. They were unsuccessful.

Yesterday, 28 April, two fires broke out in the cities of Huliaipole and Orikhiv as a result of russian shelling. According to rescuers, three apartments in a five-story residential building with a total area of 150 sq m were on fire in Orikhiv. The roof of a private house and an outbuilding with a total area of 70 sq m were ablaze in Huliaipole.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, 28 April, at 11:09am, the enemy attacked Vesnianske community using an FPV kamikaze drone. As a result of the attack, property of an industrial enterprise was damaged.

Residents of Mykolaiv joined the all-Ukrainian Capped Enemies (Voroham kryshka) campaign. As part of this initiative, they collect plastic bottle caps, which are then recycled, and the proceeds are directed to the needs of the defenders. The fund has already sent the first batch, 20kg of bottle caps. The funds raised will be used to purchase FPV drones for the military.

Odesa oblast

On the evening of 29 April, russia struck Odesa. The air raid siren sounded in the city at 6:24pm, and four minutes later, at 6:28pm, a powerful explosion occurred. According to Odesa RMA, four people were killed. 28 people, including two children (aged 16 and 5) and one pregnant woman, were injured. Four of the wounded are in critical condition and doctors are currently fighting for their lives.

Odesa community has handed over three mobile workshops to the Armed Forces. The vehicles were purchased at the request of the military, with funds allocated from the city budget as part of the territorial defence assistance program.

According to the “South” Operational Command, there are no russian fleet ships in the Black and Azov Seas. Missile carriers are stationed mainly in their home ports, primarily in novorossiysk. The enemy is taking measures to preserve the naval fleet, constantly changing the locations of their vessels.

More than 1200 teenagers and young people participated in the Resilience of Youth – Strength of the Nation event on Odesa oblast within the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?”. The event aimed to draw attention to and popularise attentive attitudes towards mental health, improve psycho-emotional well-being, and acquire basic knowledge and skills in providing psychological first aid.

Kherson oblast

According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, our units have advanced in the area of Veletenske towards Kherson and established control over the Nestryha Island.

Today, 29 April, the russian army attacked Kizomys. A 60-year-old man received blast injuries and leg wounds. He died while being transported to the hospital. A 37-year-old man sustained blast injuries, shrapnel wounds to the forearm and torso, as well as a rib and limb fracture.

Yesterday the enemy attacked Pridniprovske, Veletenske, Inzhenerne, Molodizhne, Bilozerka, Kizomys, Ivanivka, Stanislav, Beryslav, Tiahynka, Novoberyslav, Lvove, Novokayiry, Shliakhove, Kostyrka, Olhivka, Dariivka, Dudchany and the city of Kherson. Five private houses, an educational institution, a kindergarten, critical and transportation infrastructure objects and an agricultural enterprise were damaged.

The enemy attempted five unsuccessful assaults near Krynyky on the left bank of Dnipro in the temporarily occupied Kherson oblast. Having suffered losses, they withdrew to their original positions.  There were 151 reconnaissance UAV flights in the operational zone during the past day.

Confirmed enemy losses amounted to 118 occupiers and 26 pieces of armament and military equipment. Ukrainian forces destroyed 6 cannons, 2 mortars, 15 units of armored vehicles, 1 radar jamming station and 2 Mavic UAVs.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council reported that they sent a DJI Mavic 3 Thermal, a Starlink satellite modem and a EcoFlow DELTA 2 charging station to the military unit A4718.

Zakarpattia oblast

The 6th charity Khust Half Marathon 2024 was held in Khust region. Among participants of Khust Half Marathon are fighters of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. With all the funds raised from registration for the half-marathon, drones were purchased, which were sent to fighters immediately after the race.

The With Faith in Victory charitable exhibition opened in the RMA atrium. About 800 children’s works and creative achievements of pupils of out-of-school education institutions of Zakarpattia were presented at it.

A meeting of the Coordinating Council on IDPs was held in Uzhhorod. The longest discussion was the issue of obtaining a permit to stay in the border zone.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

31 young participants of the Caring for the Hero’s Family project are able to recover and undergo complex rehabilitation. The first race under the Rehabilitation Program for Children of Fallen Heroes – 2024, which is supported by the organisations Ukrainian Canadian Advocacy Group and Rehabilitation of the Unbreakable, is underway within its borders. During 10 days, participants of the project are provided with informative and interesting leisure activities, which are rich in positive emotions and help to recharge emotionally.

Lviv oblast

A school fair was held in Lviv. Students, teachers and parents who organised the event raised UAH 1.9m. The money will be donated to the defenders.

A charity fair was held in a kindergarten in Lviv oblast. Participants raised almost UAH 115,000 for the Armed Forces.

The other day, the Prayer Breakfast for the Victory of Ukraine was held for the 3ird time in the refectory of the Ukrainian Catholic University. Specifically, the military, medics, educators, clergy, volunteers and representatives of the authorities joined the joint prayer. Those present sang the National Anthem and observed a moment of silence in honour of the fallen Heroes.

Vasyl Hrymaliuk, soldier from Lviv oblast, was posthumously awarded with the 3rd degree For Courage Order by the President of Ukraine. The award was presented to the family of the fallen defender. The serviceman was killed on 18 May 2023 while performing a combat mission near Kamiansk, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Rivne oblast

The State Emergency Service in Rivne oblast received a truck with equipment from German partners. The fire truck will go to the village of Zoria, to the Verallia Ukraine company.

5 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals were won by defenders from Rivne oblast at the veteran tournament Invincible Kyiv. Over 180 veterans from different oblasts of Ukraine and over 150 servicemen and cadets took part in the competition.

Ternopil oblast

Volunteers from Ternopil delivered parcels from relatives to the soldiers at the front. In addition, the city council handed over a bus, equipped with charging stations, chainsaws, shoes, sleeping bags, camouflage nets, food products, hygiene products, etc., to the military.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In Khmelnytskyi oblast, 108 Invincibility Centres will operate in a permanent mode. Distribution of Invincibility Centres by regions: Khmelnytskyi region – 29; Shepetivka region – 23; Kamianets-Podilskyi region – 17; subdivisions of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the oblast – 39. In addition, 359 Invincibility Centres will be transferred to the “ready to open” mode.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council awarded state awards posthumously to the families of fallen servicemen. The unique kitchen train of Ukrzaliznytsia continues to work in Kharkiv oblast and helps overcome the consequences of constant enemy shelling. Since the start of work, the train team has already produced 350,000 portions of food in total, of which 265,000 were for affected residents of the oblast in the last month. For several days, employees of the kitchen train also cooked for Kharkiv Psychiatric Hospital, which was destroyed by russian missiles. Food purchases and the operation of the train are financed by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
