It has been the 356th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

Breaking news

The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova reported that the missile debris was detected in the border police area of Larga (Brichen region) following the russian attacks against Ukraine. “This is the fourth case when the missile debris fell on the territory of the republic of Moldova after the bombardment of Ukraine”, the report added.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is the operational information of the General staff as of 6 pm:

The russian army launched another missile attack on the territory of Ukraine. 16 out of 36 russian missiles were shot down by Ukrainian Air Force. In addition, russian military launched 12 air strikes and over 10 MLRS attacks, killing and wounding civilians.

Ukraine is still under the threat of russian missile strikes. 

The russian army has not yet abandoned its aggressive plans, despite significant losses. Russians focus on offensive operations towards Kupiansk, Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka, and Shakhtarske.

Towards Volyn, Polissia, Siversk and Sloboda, certain russian units remain stationed in the areas bordering Ukraine, but no offensive groups have been detected. The vicinities of settlements of Popivka, Bachivsk, Partyzanske, Sumy oblast, Veterynarne, Hraniv, and Vovchansk, Kharkiv oblast, were shelled by the russian army. In addition, russian troops launched a helicopter gunship attack on the settlement of Udy, Kharkiv oblast, from the russian territory.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, the russian army shelled the settlements of Dvorichna, Hrianykivka, Kharkiv oblast, Stelmakhivka, Nevske, Chervonopopivka, Luhansk oblast, and Berestove, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Bakhmut, Spirne, Vyimka, Bilohorivka, Vesele, Rozdolivka, Bakhmut, Ivanivske, Stupochky, Predtechyne, Oleksandro-Shultyne, and Kurdyumivka came under fire.

Towards Avdiivka and Shakhtarske, the russian army fired from artillery at the settlements of Vesele, Avdiivka, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Marinka, Novomykhailivka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Velyka Novosilka, Vremivka, and Neskuchne, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the vicinities of settlements of Zelene Pole, Donetsk oblast, Malynivka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, and Kamyanske, Zaporizhzhia oblast, came under fire.

Towards Kherson, Zmiivka, Tokarivka, Antonivka, and Kherson were hit by russian artillery that caused civilian casualties.

The russian administration of the city of Hola Prystan, Kherson oblast, is pressuring local residents to re-register their property rights under the russian law. The information is being spread that Ukrainian citizens who do not comply with russian demands by May 2023 will be deported to russia.

In Mariupol, temporarily occupied by the russian army, russian soldiers are taking measures to “mobilize” certain members of society. From now on, homeless people, as well as alcohol or drug addicts are being taken to the russian army.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 13 air strikes on buildups of russian troops, as well as 1 air strike on the position of the anti-aircraft missile system.

Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit 3 concentrations of russian troops, 1 artillery unit at its firing position, 1 ammunition depot, and 2 other important targets of russian military.

The deputy head of the President Office advised that there was another prisoner exchange. 100 defenders, national guard servicemen, border guards and soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 94 of them are Mariupol defenders, including 63 Azovstal fighters and one civilian have returned home. 

The report of the Yale humanities lab of the public health school stresses that 6K Ukrainian kids are kept in special facilities for “political upbringing (brainwashing)”. 43 camps and other facilities where Ukrainian kids are being illegally kept.  

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported no signs of formation of russian offensive groups towards Sloboda. The invaders shelled Udy with a helicopter. Dvorichna, Hraniv, Hrianykivka, Veterinary and Vovchansk were also hit.

Kharkiv Regional Administration’s Service for Children said that during the war the number of orphans in Kharkiv oblast increased by 1.3% compared to 2021. Since the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion, 30 children have been orphaned due to the death of their parents as a result of hostilities. The orphans were adopted by relatives. As of January 1, 4243 children, 1428 are orphans, deprived of parental care remain on record.

Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov, informed that evacuation from Dvorichna is currently underway. More than 1K people have been evacuated from Kupiansk direction.

Today, the invaders shelled Vovchansk twice. The enemy used both combat aircraft and artillery, damaging the building of one of the enterprises and 4 private buildings. There were 6 casualties. A 46-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of another hostile shelling of Vovchansk after 2 pm.

Yesterday, settlements in Bohodukhiv, Chuhuiv and Kupiansk districts were under hostile attack. Specifically, the enemy attacked Dvorichna, Hrianykivka, Kupiansk, Svitlychne, Vovchansk and other settlements with tanks, mortars and artillery. In addition, the invaders launched air strikes on Hraniv and Udy.

Yesterday, after the morning shelling of Kupiansk, at least 6 private buildings and outbuildings were damaged. Fires broke out. Dvorichna also was under enemy attack. Windows in several private houses were broken.

At 11 am, russian troops shelled Svitlychne village of Zolochiv community with Urahan multiple rocket launchers. One building and the power grid were damaged.  After 11 am, the enemy shelled Vovchansk with artillery. Three private buildings were damaged there. At night, after 11 pm, the invaders attacked Kupiansk again. As a result, a hangar, garages and 5 cars, including two buses, burned down. The area of the fire was 700 square meters. There were no casualties.

Donetsk oblast

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that reconnaissance troops near Bakhmut defeated an enemy stronghold and captured a prisoner.

A rescue operation has been completed in Pokrovsk on the ruins of a building destroyed by russians. According to the final reports, three people were killed and eleven injured. Among the injured, one person is in a serious condition and is in a hospital in one of the neighboring regions. The shelling damaged 4 apartment buildings and a school.

The previous morning, russians struck Pokrovsk with Smerch MRLs: 3 people were killed, 11 injured, among them 1 police officer. Four apartment buildings, a school and 3 shops were damaged.

Towards Volnovakha, there was intense shelling of Vuhledar and its outskirts over the day, with no casualties.

Towards Donetsk, there was artillery shelling of Heorhiivka and Marinka. In the morning there was a massive artillery attack on Avdiivka. There was no information about casualties.

Towards Horlivka, 2 people were killed and 1 injured in Bakhmut. Three private buildings, 5 outbuildings and 2 administrative buildings were damaged. One person was injured in Kostiantynivka. In Soledar community, Russians shelled Paraskoviivka intensively, and there were isolated attacks on Fedorivka and Rozdolivka.

Towards Lysychansk, private buildings on three streets in Siversk were damaged, and there was also loud shelling in Serebrianka.

Press service of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that for the first time in the region, a captured Wagner soldier was suspected of participating in an armed conflict and hostilities. In the autumn of 2022, the Armed Forces of Ukraine defeated an occupation unit near Bakhmut and captured a mercenary from the Wagner group.

Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, informed that yesterday russians killed 6 civilians: 1 in Avdiivka, 2 in Bakhmut and 3 in Pokrovsk. 13 people were injured.

Luhansk oblast

Yesterday, Defence Forces repelled enemy attacks near Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forestry.

Towards Kupiansk and Lyman, the enemy attacked Chervonopopivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Novoiehorivka and Stelmakhivka with tanks, mortars and artillery. Russians launched air strikes on Bilohorivka, Serebrianka forestry and Zhytlivka.

Head of Sievierodonetsk Civil-Military Administration, Oleksandr Striuk, noted that Sievierodonetsk Azot is being cut to metal. The invaders have already taken all survining property from the enterprise.

Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Serhii Haidai, said that the number of russian air strikes on Ukrainian positions has increased. However, last week our border guards managed to shoot down two jets. In Bilohorivka, Ukrainian troops are holding the line. The most difficult area today is Kreminna-Lyman.

The Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported that social payments in the occupied territories will not take into account the salary for the first nine months of 2022. Children who miss classes in schools under the russian curriculum are checked by commissions.  Russians plan to absorb local Internet providers.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen arrived in Kyiv. This is his first visit to Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale war. The Israeli minister plans to meet with the leadership of Ukraine and re-open the Israeli embassy in Kyiv. As part of his trip, Eli Cohen visited Bucha in Kyiv oblast and visited the church of St. Andrew the First-Called Apostle, near which local residents, killed by the russian military during the occupation of the city, are buried.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal informed about the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Melanie Jolie, which took place in Kyiv. Economic  cooperation, restoration of Ukraine, sanctions against russia were discussed. Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klychko showed Melanie Joly the consequences of the russian attacks on the capital.

A city coordination council was created in Kyiv for reintegration and support of defenders and their family members. As reported in the KRMA, it will unite the efforts of deputies of the Kyiv City Council, entrepreneurs and organizations for social protection of the military.

Bucha mayor Anatoly Fedoruk said that the Portuguese sister city of Cascais allocated €500,000 for the restoration of the city’s educational institutions. These funds will be used to renovate educational institutions of the district, which suffered the most during the occupation.

Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klychko said that the capital city is gradually resuming the operation of electric transport. Since February 16, 31 trolleybus and 13 tram routes have resumed operation in the capital. In total, 186 trolleybuses and 157 trams will be on the line.

The Dobrobut medical network is launching a program of free surgical operations for military personnel with complex fractures who were injured during hostilities. The clinic will perform four free operations every month using implants for metal-osteosynthesis.

The mobile brigade of social and psychological assistance has started operating in Bucha. The first meeting was devoted to panic attacks and how to deal with them. Meetings will take place once every two weeks.

At the General Post Office in Kyiv, stamps “Warriors of Light. Warriors of Good” were redeemed. They were dedicated to specialists who help restore infrastructure after russian missile attacks. The postal block contains stamps with road workers, signalmen, energy workers, water suppliers and gas workers.

Irish actor Jack Gleeson, who played the role of Joffrey Baratheon in the series “Game of Thrones”, came to Kyiv. The actor brought a pickup vehicle for the Armed Forces of Ukraine with him. In the capital, Jack will hold several acting master classes and workshops, meet with Ukrainian military personnel, participate in charity fundraisers and auctions in support of the Armed Forces.

Zhytomyr oblast

A bridge over the Trostianitsa River in the village of Toporishche, mining of which stopped the russian combat vehicles during active hostilities in the region in the spring of 2022, is being rebuilt. The Highway Service of Zhytomyr Oblast reported that at the moment, works on arranging the base of the bridge are being completed. In total, five artificial structures were destroyed on the highways of state importance in the oblast due to the russian military aggression.

From October 2022, 55 employees of Zhytomyroblenergo as part of seven emergency teams helped restore electricity supply in Kherson oblast. 17 electricians who were involved in such works returned home. According to them, they had to replace damaged electric poles and lay new power lines under the sound of explosions. There was no electricity supply for more than half a year  In the communities where Zhytomyr energy workers worked.

Head of the Zhytomyr RMA Vitaliy Bunechko said that six ambulances purchased as part of the United 24 project were handed over to medical institutions of the oblast. Ovruch and Romaniv received three vehicles with the necessary medical equipment. The Regional Center for Disaster Medicine received three vehicles with enhanced cross-country ability. They will be used to provide assistance in remote areas of the oblast, as well as during medical workers’ trips to liberated territories.

Sumy oblast

The ‘North’ Operational Command reported that the enemy shelled 4 territorial communities of Sumy oblast: Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Nova Sloboda, and Bilopillia. There were more than 30 strikes, including dropping of an explosive device from the UAV. In the morning, the enemy shelled the Khotyn community. The occupiers also shelled the border of Sumy oblast in the area of Bachivsk and ​​the village of Partyzanske. No casualties or destruction have been reported.

The Konotop community received assistance from the Warsaw International Solidarity Fund. 26 gasoline generators with a capacity of 3.5 kW and 39 boilers will provide heating and a continuous supply of electricity in the Invincibility Centres. The total cost of equipment is almost PLN 74,000.

A powerful generator was delivered to the Sumy hospital to support the operation of the entire medical facility during an emergency power outage. Lev Schreiber, a famous American actor and winner of 6 Golden Globes, together with the UNITED24 project, helped raise funds to purchase a powerful (240 kW) electric generator for the 5th Sumy Clinical Hospital. Hospitals of Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Volyn, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts will soon receive the same equipment.

The Shostka local branch of the Red Cross Society of Ukraine has created a safe space for  psychosocial support of the population. Here they help to emotionally support the children of the city in a difficult time. All this took place within the framework of the BraVo program. The Red Cross can help with clothes and rehabilitation equipment – crutches and walkers. Social assistants for home care began to work here.

Chernihiv oblast

The Chernihiv RMA reported that russian occupation forces continue shelling on the state border of the oblast. Semenivka and Novhorod-Siverskyi communities were under enemy fire. There were 6 strikes from a 120 mm mortar near the village of Karpovychi of the Semenivka community. The enemy dropped 9 VOGs from a drone near the village of Hremiach of the Novhorod-Siverskyi community. No casualties among personnel and equipment are reported.

Head of the State Archival Service of Ukraine Anatolii Khromov said that in the building of the SSU archival unit of Chernihiv, 13K documents testifying the crimes of the totalitarian soviet regime, namely the repression against the population of Chernihiv oblast, burned as a result of russian shelling. 

In Nizhyn, the number of Invincibility Centres has been increased. Four of them operate around the clock. 8 new centres were opened, working from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 to 17:00. Locals are welcome to come there to warm up and recharge the devices in case of a long power outage.

173 enterprises of Chernihiv oblast became participants of the program which provided them with 3,614 special polyethylene sleeves. This made it possible to add more than 700 K tonnes of capacities for temporary storage of grain. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine bought temporary storage of grain with the help of the governments of Canada and Japan and the Minderoo Foundation in Australia.

The 160 kW generator from ROCKWOOL went to the Bakhmach community. The generator will be installed in the boiler room to keep it operating during periods of power outage. The boiler house serves a school, a kindergarten and more than three dozen houses in Bakhmach. 

The story of the residents of the village of Yahidne in Chernihiv oblast is depicted on the new cover of TIME magazine. 7 days after the full-scale invasion, the village was occupied by russian troops. Over 360 people, including children and the elderly, were sent to live in the basement of a local school for about a month. The author of this photo is Olha Meniailo, a resident of the village, who kept a diary during March 3-30, 2022, when she was forced to stay in the basement with fellow villagers.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Head of the regional council Mykola Lukashuk, the enemy launched an airstrike. In Pavlohrad, they hit the private sector and an industrial facility. In the city, 7 private houses were destroyed, and about 50 were mutilated. 6 outbuildings and half a dozen cars were also affected. One woman born in 1943 died, and seven more people were injured, five men and two women. Two wounded were hospitalized. A fire broke out at an industrial enterprise. Five enemy missiles were shot down during the night.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov announced that an exclusive postage stamp called “For your freedom and ours!” dedicated to the sister city of Panevezys was issued.

Vinnytsia City Council announced that more than 26 thousand hryvnias were collected for the Armed Forces at the patriotic festival named after the Hero of Ukraine Maksym Shymko. The event took place in Vinnytsia City Palace of Children and Youth named after Lialia Ratushna. The event included an exhibition, a charity fair selling homemade goodies, and a marathon of making charms for defenders and weaving camouflage nets.

Kirovohrad oblast

According to Head of the Kirovohrad Regional State Administration Andrii Raikovych,    russian troops struck one of the critical infrastructure facilities using strategic aviation in the morning. 

Poltava oblast

According to Dmytro Lunin, head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, a group of enemy UAVs was recorded in Poltava region during the night mass attack in the oblast. Air defense equipment was on alert. The enemy hit the territory of the region with missiles. Two of them targeted a critical infrastructure facility in Kremenchuk. 

Head of the district Olena Lahai reported that 10 buildings and cars were damaged due to attacks on the village of Rokytne of the Omelnytske community near Kremenchuk. The explosion knocked out windows, doors and destroyed roofs.

Cherkasy oblast

As part of the global program of the British Council “Language for Resilience”, foreign language teachers of Cherkasy Secondary School# 7 took part in the new training course of the British Council “Teaching and learning in difficult times”.

The Uman community received aid from France. Generators, medical equipment, and household appliances were handed over by representatives of the town hall of the sister city of Roumier-sur-Seine.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

In the Zaporizhzhia direction, the situation has not significantly changed. The enemy concentrates its efforts on holding the occupied borders. The enemy carried out 97 hits on the positions of Ukrainian defenders, using tank weapons, rocket and barrel artillery along the entire line of contact.

According to the report of the National Security Service in Zaporizhzhia oblast, the occupiers shelled civilian infrastructure in the area of  the settlements of  Malynivka, Novodanylivka, Temyrivka, Charivne, Mala Tokmachka, Huliaipole, Olhivske, Novoandriivka, Bilohiria, Novodanylivka, Staroukrainka, Zaliznychne, Orikhiv, Stepove, Kamianske, Stepnohirsk.

According to the mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov, in the temporarily occupied part of Zaporizhzhia region, residents see an increase in the number of russian troops. The russian occupiers are also intensively preparing for defense. 

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the “South” Operational Command, a russian ship fired eight Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea. Air defense forces shot down all eight missiles, six of them over Mykolaiv region.

An unmanned aerial vehicle of unknown origin was detected in Mykolaiv region. The enemy is trying to use various types of unmanned aerial vehicles, including fake targets. The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine is investigating this information about the drone. 

According to the report of the press service of the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District, the environmental damage caused by the pollution of the Bug Estuary with sunflower oil, which occurred in October as a result of an attack by enemy drones on the terminal in Mykolaiv, amounts to almost UAH 40 billion. 

Odesa oblast

According to Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo, the situation in Odesa oblast’s power system is improving. In the coming weeks, provided that there are no new large-scale destructions and damage to the infrastructure, it will be possible to eliminate bottlenecks in the power system. 

Kherson oblast

According to the Kherson Military Administration, russia is killing civilians. Today, a russian shell killed a 70-year-old resident of Kherson right in the middle of the street. A married couple, a man and a woman, were killed in the russian shelling of Zmiivka village in Beryslav district. 

Today, air defense forces shot down eight Kalibr missiles fired by the enemy from the Black Sea. 2 of them were shot down over Kherson region. This was reported by the “South” operational command.

According to the Kherson Regional Military Administration, russian invaders attacked Kherson region 52 times. Civilian settlements in the region were shelled with MLRS, mortars, artillery, tanks and UAVs.

The russian army attacked Kherson 21 times, targeting residential areas of the city. The enemy shells hit the pier, the botanical garden and the homes of Kherson residents. 3 people sustained injuries of varying severity as a result of russian shelling.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Three KIA SORENTO frame SUVs were sent to Volyn military from Lutsk. Two cars will be sent to the separate special purpose unit Liubart, and one – to the 63rd separate mechanized brigade. All cars were purchased using the funds that city council employees give as a day’s earnings.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA reported that Zakarpattia received 5 powerful generators from the Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Service. The equipment was sent to the Regional Center for Complex Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities and to educational institutions of the oblast.

The RMA reported that 22 entrepreneurs from Zakarpattia will receive partial compensation within the regional business support program Energy Help. The total amount of compensation for purchased alternative sources of electricity is UAH 1.8 million.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that Ivano-Frankivsk oblast received two sets of defibrillators from the Podkarpackie Voivodeship (Poland).

Lviv oblast

The RMA reported that during the air alert, a critical infrastructure facility was hit in Lviv oblast. There are no victims or victims. The fire was extinguished.

In the RMA, a meeting with Head of the Kosice Old Town district of the Slovak Republic, Igor Petrovchyk, was held. In addition, they signed a Memorandum of Understanding and discussed how to support Ukrainians. 

The Lviv RMA together with Lvivenerhozbut LLC initiated to provide electricity supply to legal entities of the oblast whose premises are used for the settlement of IDPs at the same price as for domestic consumers. Therefore, in January 2023, these business entities of Lviv oblast saved UAH 2.7 million.

The city agglomeration department of the Lviv City Council reported that residents of the Lviv community sent trench candles, ammunition, food and cars to the front. The funds  were collected at a charity concert-fair.

In the village of Radelych, Stryi region, a memorial plaque was installed on the facade of the school in honor of defender Vasyl Kisil. A warrior with the call sign Tiger volunteered to defend Ukraine, served in the 80 separate amphibious assault brigade and was killed during  liberation of Kherson oblast.

Rivne oblast

The RMA reported that the Defense Council of Rivne oblast discussed the issue of dividing tasks for strengthening the border, surveillance and video surveillance systems.

The RMA reported that the first children’s point will appear in Rivne oblast. This is a creative, playful, entertaining, interactive location, created thanks to the cooperation of the Rivne RMA with Unicef.

Ternopil oblast

The stamp, called WARRIORS OF LIGHT. WARRIORS OF GOOD, was redeemed in Ternopil. This edition is a gratitude dedicated to the people who work every day for the Victory of Ukraine. Each stamp is named after these professions – Road Workers, Communication Workers, Energy Workers, Water Workers and Gas Workers.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

In the Starosyniavsk village council a meeting of the commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergency situations was held. Representatives of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Khmelnytskyi oblast took part in the meeting. The issue of security and prevention of emergency situations in the territory of the community was discussed.

Chernivtsi oblast

Head of the Chernivtsi RMA Ruslan Zaparaniuk met with representatives of the EU Consultative Mission, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Romania and the Customs Service of Romania. They discussed the possibilities of upgrading the approach roads to the checkpoints on the border, as well as prospects for development of European-style rail connections.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Head of the Department of International Assistance of the US State Department, Daphne Rand, announced that the US has provided $13 billion in budget support to the government of Ukraine and plans to provide $9.9 billion in the coming months.

The Parliament of Norway announced the allocation of 75 billion kroner (over EUR 7 billion) to Ukraine as part of a five-year support package.

Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, announced that the country will send 51 Archer self-propelled guns to Ukraine.

Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, Kaisa Olongren, announced that the country will provide Ukraine with 20K shells for Leopard 2 tanks.

New Zealand introduced sanctions against iran for supplying russia with drones. The government of New Zealand noted that the supply of drones threatens the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and is dangerous for civilians.

The Federal Council of Switzerland reported that the country initiated proceedings to confiscate Yanukovych’s assets for a total of 130 million francs. Confiscated property and assets will be returned to Ukraine.

The Parliament of Slovakia recognized the russian regime as terrorist, and the russian federation as a sponsor of terrorism.

The Mariupol City Council reported that dozens of pairs of shoes were placed in the center of Prague. The commemoration of those who were killed in Mariupol and Bucha in the capital of the Czech Republic should remind the world of the terrible crimes of russia during the war in Ukraine.
