It has been the 549th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The russian army conducted 3 missile and 34 aviation strikes, carried out 34 salvos of rocket fire from multiple launch rocket systems on the positions of Ukrainian troops and civilian settlements. Due to the russian terrorist attacks, there are casualties and injuries among the civilian population. Residential buildings, schools, and other civilian infrastructure have been damaged.

Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and aviation strikes. There were 38 clashes.

The operational situation towards Volyn and Polissia did not change.

Towards Siversk and Sloboda, the russian army conducted mortar and artillery shelling on over 25 populated areas. These include Khrinivka, Klyusy in the Chernihiv oblast; Vilna Sloboda, Khodyne, Simeykyne, Hirkyy in Sumy oblast; and Pletenivka, Kruhle, Budarky in Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, russian artillery and mortar shelled the settlements of Dvorichna, Synkivka, Ivanivka, Kyslivka, and Berestove in Kharkiv region.

Towards Lyman, the russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the vicinity of Novoiehorivka, Luhansk oblast. They carried out airstrikes in the areas of Novoiehorivka, Tverdokhlibove, Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, and Spirne, Donetsk oblast. Over 15 populated areas were shelled with  russian artillery, including Karmazynivka, Nevske, Chervonopopivka, Kremenna, Kuzmine, and Dibrova, Luhansk oblast.

Towards Bahkmut, russian troops conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the areas of Orikhovo-Vasylivka and Klischiivka, Donetsk oblast. They carried out airstrikes in the areas of Klishchiivka, Bila Hora, and New York, Donetsk oblast. Over 20 populated areas suffered from russian artillery shelling, including Vasiukivka, Zaliznianske, Minkivka, Ivanivske, Chasiv Yar, and Klischiivka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Avdiivka, the russian army conducted unsuccessful offensive actions in the area of Stepove, Donetsk oblast. Populated areas such as Novokalynove, Avdiivka, Orlivka, Sevorne, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske, Donetsk oblast were shelled with artillery.

Towards Mariinka, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to repel the advance of russian troops in the area of Mariinka, Donetsk oblast. The russian army conducted an airstrike in the area of Krasnohorivka in the Donetsk region. Populated areas such as Krasnohorivka, Marinka, Pobieda, Novomykhailivka, Kostiantynivka, and Yelyzavetivka, Donetsk oblast were shelled with artillery.

Towards Shakhtarsk, russian soldiers conducted airstrikes in the areas of Vuhledar and Staromykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. Over 15 populated areas suffered from russian artillery shelling, including Bohoyavlenka, Novoukrainka, Prechystivka, Vremivka, Blahodatne, and Urozhaine, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the russian army conducted airstrikes in the areas of Mala Tokmachka, Orikhiv, and Robotyne,  Zaporizhzhia region. Over 20 populated areas suffered from russian artillery shelling, including Yablukove, Charivne, Novoandriivka, Lobkove, Kamianske, and Stepnohirsk, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Towards Kherson, the settlements of Olhivka, Odradokamianka, Mykolaivka, Kherson, Yantarne, and Dniprovske in  Kherson oblast were shelled with russian artillery.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue their offensive operation towards Melitopol, consolidating their positions at achieved frontlines and conducting counter-battery measures.

The Armed Forces’ aviation carried out 2 strikes on command posts, 10 strikes on manpower buildup areas, and 2 strikes on russian anti-aircraft missile systems.

Rocket and artillery units hit 2 anti-aircraft missile complexes, 1 manpower buildup area, and 4 artillery positions on firing positions of the russian army.

The former children’s ombudsman and executive director of the charitable foundation Mykola Kuleba announced that 11 children were returned home from russia and from the temporarily occupied territories. In total, 161 children were brought back home.

The Center of National Resistance Russia reported that russia also stole 3.7 million tons of Ukrainian grain in the temporarily occupied territories. The grain is then resold to enterprises related to gauleiter and sold at market prices in russia. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The Air Force of Ukraine reported that previously, russia used Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs in the south-eastern direction.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, said that the invaders attacked Kupiansk region According to preliminary information from medical staff, two people were killed in Podoly village, a 70-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, and another person were wounded. The enemy hit a civilian object – a cafe, where local residents were staying during the day.

Yesterday settlements of Bohodukhiv, Chuhuiv, Kupiansk and Izium regions were under russian attacks.

The enemy shelled with rocket and cannon artillery, mortars, and used combat aircraft.

In Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, a private building and outbuildings were damaged. In Okhrymivka village, Chuhuiv region, a farm territory was hit and a fire broke out.

In Kucherivka village, Kupiansk region, a high pressure gas pipeline and a private building were damaged.

There were no casualties.

Demining is ongoing. Pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 5,7 hectares and defused 107 explosive ordnance.

The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported that almost 10K customers were left with no electricity due to the night shelling. The gas pipeline was damaged, which led to restrictions on the supply of electricity to residents.

Donetsk oblast

Illia Yevlash, Head of the Press Service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that Ukrainian troops are advancing near Klishchiivka towards Bakhmut. And russian troops have started shelling towards Lyman more. In both areas, russian forces are using Su-25 aircraft and Ka-52 helicopters.

Larysa Huseva, Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services, said that residents have already sent 2,417 applications for assistance to restore their homes destroyed or damaged by the hostilities and 58 applications for compensation. Of these, 866 applicants received a positive response: the total amount of payments for repairs is UAH 62 million 746 thousand.

Gas workers in Kramatorsk have replaced a section of the gas pipeline damaged by russian shelling. According to Donetskoblhaz, 10 metres of the underground gas pipeline were completely deformed as a result of an air strike on the city.

Before the eye battle between the boxers, Oleksandr Usyk unfolded a flag with the inscription “Fortress Bakhmut. Salty Land. Iron men”. This flag has the signatures of soldiers from the 11th Border Guard Detachment and other units of Bakhmut Defence Forces.

On the Independence Day of Ukraine, teachers of Mariupol school No. 53 climbed the Khomiak and Hoverla mountains with Ukrainian flags and on the highest mountain of the country set a record for the largest Ukrainian flag to be raised by a kite on top of a mountain. Its size is 25 by 18 metres.

Petro Andriushchenko, Mariupol Mayor’s Councillor, said that 465 buildings with about 33,500 apartments were demolished in russian-occupied city. Also russians do not have enough people and equipment to maintain the city. As a result, it is overgrown with grass, which in some places reaches a metre in height.

A man and a woman were injured as a result of russian shelling of Avdiivka and Shakhtarske. According to Anastasiia Miedviedieva, Spokeswoman of Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, they were taken to medical institutions.

Oleksandr Honcharenko, Head of Kramatorsk City Military Administration, said that russian troops shelled the outskirts of Kramatorsk. There were neither casualties nor destruction, In the place of impact there was smoke due to the debris and fuel from the weapons of russian invaders. The missile strike on Kramatorsk damaged gas networks.

Towards Volnovakha, a building and equipment of a farm were damaged in Bahatyr of Velyka Novosilka community.

Towards Donetsk, 1 person was injured in Kurakhove. A power line was damaged in Ocheretyne community. Katerynivka, Yelyzavetivka and Illinka of Marinka community were shelled. Avdiivka suffered a tank attack in the morning, residential areas were targeted.

Towards Horlivka, 4 private buildings and 1 apartment block were damaged in Chasiv Yar community.

Towards Lysychansk, 1 building was destroyed in Siversk.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said that yesterday russians injured one civilian in Kurakhove.

Luhansk oblast

For three days now, the enemy has been trying to move towards Novoiehorivka almost non-stop. Our defenders repel all these attempts, inflicting losses in personnel and equipment. However, russians do not stop putting pressure on this part of the frontline. They have also become more active near Bilohorivka.

The invaders shelled Nevske, Bilohorivka, Nadiia and Tverdokhlibove with artillery. Air strikes were conducted near Tverdokhlibove and Makiivka.

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, while in Sievierodonetsk they at least demonstratively installed windows in several houses, people in neighbouring occupied cities did not wait for this. Specifically, in Rubizhne, they do not even collect data on the number of damaged homes that can be quickly restored. The occupation administration offers to start repairs at their own expense. However, prices for construction materials in the city are almost three times higher than in Starobilsk.

In the temporarily occupied Sievierodonetsk, residents are forced to install individual heating themselves as the occupation authorities have not yet repaired the regional heating system.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

After the de-occupation of the oblast, more than 100 health care facilities were restored. As reported in RMA, the system of medical institutions is being restored at the expense of funds from the regional budget, volunteer assistance, funds from the economic activity of institutions and with the financial assistance of charitable organizations. The reconstruction is carried out according to new approaches, taking into account all standards of barrier-free accessibility and inclusion.

In Kyiv, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard held a training course on tactical medicine, where the participants were trained to provide first aid in war conditions according to the M.A.R.C.H. protocol. The training took place in the Obolonskyi Vcenter HUB with the assistance of the KCSA. All participants received training certificates.

Kyiv RMA reported that preparations for the new academic year are underway in Kyiv oblast – civil defense facilities and basic shelters have been repaired in 884 educational institutions. Another 150 shelters are under construction.

Head of Kyiv RMA Ruslan Kravchenko said that thanks to the help of partners from the Ile-de-France region, the schools of the oblast received 1,000 tablets. Also, 150 generators were handed over to educational institutions and 45 school buses were purchased.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko met with Brussels Mayor Philippe Close on August 25. It was about holding the Kyiv Investment Forum, which will be held in November in the capital of Belgium. Vitaliy Klitschko reported that Brussels had given Kyiv 4 ambulances, technological medical equipment and materials for the capital’s hospitals, and humanitarian aid throughout the year and a half.

Kyiv RMA reported that 585 residents of the oblast received a voucher for education at the expense of the state. They will be able to acquire a new profession or specialty in order to be more competitive in the labor market. The voucher can be used for training in 123 approved professions and specialties. Flexible forms of education allow you to study without breaking away from work.

An exhibition of photos from the de-occupied territories was opened in Kyiv for Independence Day, which was presented by the Ukrainer organization in the Peremoga office space. The exhibition includes 20 photos taken by the organization’s reporters in 2022 during expeditions to the liberated territory of Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions. The pictures show torture chambers where Ukrainian prisoners were kept, a portrait of a man who survived arrest and torture in occupied Kherson, a Kherson citizen burning a russian flag, as well as children from liberated Kupyansk holding a Ukrainian flag.

Zhytomyr oblast

Three Ukrainian pilots died in a plane crash in Zhytomyr oblast. The tragedy was confirmed by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On August 25, during a combat mission, the crews of two L-39 combat training aircraft collided in the sky. The SBI is investigating the circumstances of the accident. Among the dead is the well-known pilot of the 40th tactical aviation brigade, Andriy Pilshchikov, callsign “Juice”. He participated in the air defense of Kyiv and other territories, as of May 7, 2022, ” Juice ” had 500 hours of combat flights.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that the russians carried out 19 attacks on populated areas of Sumy oblast. The communities of Esman, Khotyn, Shalyhine, Bilopillia, Seredina-Buda, and Krasnopillia were under enemy shelling. The enemy fired 41 shots from MLRS, 84 from mortars, 3 from artillery, 20 shots from AGS, and 11 shots from a tank were also recorded.

At night and in the morning, the russians carried out 3 shellings of the border – a total of 21 explosions were recorded. As reported in the RMA, the Seredina-Buda and Khotyn communities came under shelling.

The sixth race “I honor the Warriors, I run for the Heroes of Ukraine” took place in Sumy. He gathered 80 professional athletes and amateurs. The oldest participant in the race is 60 years old, the youngest is three.

Chernihiv oblast

During the past day, the russians shelled the border of Chernihiv oblast 4 times from their territory. As reported in the SBGS, a total of 16 mortar and barrel artillery strikes were recorded. The communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk came under shelling.

Head of Chernihiv RMA Vyacheslav Chaus announced that since the beginning of 2023, the russians have carried out almost a thousand strikes on the border region and fired more than eight thousand shells. According to him, the constant strengthening of the border territories of the oblast and the arrangement of shelters for the population are ongoing.

Chernihiv acting mayor Oleksandr Lomako announced that more than UAH 20 million were allocated in the city for the repair of buildings damaged by the russian missile attack on August 19. The funds will be used for the capital repair of 6 roofs; survey and ongoing work on the restoration of apartment buildings and the restoration of a damaged school. According to him, 78 apartment buildings were damaged by the blast wave due to the russian strike, and their restoration is ongoing.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the regional council, the enemy attacked Nikopol with artillery on the night of August 25. A 59-year-old man was killed. The shelling damaged 5 residential buildings, a car, 2 power lines, and a gas pipeline.

Andrii Mykhailyk, chief engineer of the Manganets water service, reported that centralised water supply has been restored to Marhanets. The city had been cut off from water supply for almost three months due to the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and the shallowing of the reservoir. Water supply has now been restored to 80% of customers. More than 70 drinking and technical water points continue to operate in the city. 

Serhii Lysak, Head of the Dnipropetrovs’k Regional Military Administration, informed that a holiday was organised in Dnipro for the children most affected by the war. First of all, for children who have left the hotspots.  There were dozens of activities at the location. They could try aqua make-up, turn into a rescuer by trying on ammunition or dance with fairy-tale characters.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​According to Head of the CF Vitalii Humeniuk, Vinnytsia volunteers have delivered 11 buggies to the military of the South operational command. 

Police officers from Vinnytsia and the oblast organised the ‘Preparing for School Together’ event for children. The event aims to support children who have survived the war and those who grow up without parental care and need additional attention and support.

Kirovohrad oblast

The all-Ukrainian patriotic race “I honour soldiers, I run for heroes” started in Kropyvnytskyi at the Fortress Vales memorial complex. 120 participants attended the race. According to Olena Stepanok, co-organiser of the race, the goal is to honour the memory of the fallen soldiers for Ukraine’s independence.

Poltava oblast

According to Dmytro Lunin, Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, Poltava region was the first in Ukraine to introduce a service for the social rehabilitation of veterans with disabilities together with their families: wives and children. This is a pilot project, and they are currently working on extending it to the entire oblast and the country. The first 15 families of war veterans with disabilities have already received services under the regional integrated programme.

Cherkasy oblast

27 young Uman residents, children of combatants and perished soldiers, visited the city of Czestochowa (Poland). They got acquainted with the cultural and historical heritage of the Republic of Poland, which is one of the largest countries in Central Europe.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, up to 1,500 russian servicemen of Buryat nationality were brought to the temporarily occupied Osypenko village. They were settled in civilian houses with local residents and on the territory of the hospital.

American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) stated in the daily analysis that russian invaders are fighting with no reinforcements and no troop rotation near Robotyne village.

Ivan Fedorov, Mayor of Melitopol, said that in the morning residents of the temporarily occupied Melitopol heard powerful explosions from the direction of Tokmak.

According to Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, the enemy attacked 26 settlements 85 times yesterday. There were 71 artillery strikes on Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Orikhove, Robotyne, Novodarivka, Levadne, Novodanylivka, Stepnohirsk, Kamianske and other settlements on the frontline.

10 MRLs attacks were launched at Novodarivka, Temyrivka, Levadne, Mala Tokmachka, Stepnohirsk and Kamianske. UAVs attacked Huliaipilske and Bilohiria. Tavriyske suffered from air and missile strikes.

A 58-year-old resident of Mala Tokmachka was killed by a Grad MRLs. In addition, a 59-year-old man was injured during the shelling. The injured man was immediately taken to a medical facility.

Aerial reconnaissance personnel of the 100th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade tracked down the armoured personnel carrier and passed the coordinates to the gunners from the artillery attached to the brigade, who managed to damage and stop the armoured vehicle. Another APC-82A arrived to rescue the enemy vehicle, which was also destroyed by Ukrainian artillery.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, yesterday russian troops shelled the waters of Ochakiv community, Mykolaiv region, three times with artillery. There were no casualties.

Yesterday on Khreshchatyk Street in Kyiv, Mykolaiv volunteers of the Youth is the Future of the Nation organisation deployed a kilometre-long camouflage net, the size of which reaches about 4000 square metres. It was recorded in the Ukrainian Book of Records as the largest net for the Armed Forces. The net is being demonstrated as part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Undercover: The Art of Camouflage in Action campaign. The net was set up against the parade of burnt and captured russian vehicles. Volunteers left 50 metres of the base empty so that Kyiv residents and visitors could join in the netting and set the record.

Also yesterday Voznesensk city hosted a presentation of the book by Andrew Harding, A Small, Stubborn Town. Life, Death and Disobedience in Ukraine, dedicated to local residents who showed heroism and will when russian forces tried to occupy the city in March 2022. The book has already been published in the UK, USA, South Africa and Australia. The language of the book is English.

Odesa oblast

The all-Ukrainian race “I honour soldiers, I run for the fallen Heroes of Ukraine” was held in Odesa. The event was held in Shevchenko Park and started near the Chornomorets stadium. More than 100 participants from various power structures of the Defence Forces took part in the 2km race: The Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the National Police, the State Emergency Service, the Military Academy, the Naval Lyceum, various sports schools of the city and others.

Svitlana Bedreha, Deputy Mayor of Odesa, together with Vitalii Dobrovolskii, Director of Bread Factory No. 4, sent a loaf of bread in the shape of a map of Ukraine to Ukrainian defenders undergoing rehabilitation in one of the city’s medical facilities. The loaf was baked for a week. Its total weight is 200 kilograms of pastry. The giant cake was presented yesterday during the Independence Day celebrations.

Andrii Klymenko, Project Manager of the Black Sea Institute of Strategic Studies, stated that in the morning the second ship left Odesa port after russia suspended the grain deal. The Primus bulker has been in Ukraine since 20 February 2022. The port of destination is Varna, Bulgaria. ETA: 27 August 13:00 LT (UTC+3).

Kherson oblast

During the day, russian troops shelled Kherson hospital. The hospital building was damaged. A door and 17 windows were broken. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties.

Roman Mrochko, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, informed that russians shelled the downtown Kherson. A 41-year-old woman was injured. She was hospitalised with concussion and leg injuries. Another victim was a 70-year-old woman. She suffered minor injuries and received medical assistance on the spot. Also, as a result of shelling, the equipment of a municipal enterprise burned down.

The Southern Defence Forces reported that they eliminated 42 russian servicemen, five cannons, eight armoured vehicles, a boat, a set of antenna systems for the Pole-21 electronic warfare station and a small electronic warfare station. They also destroyed a russian large-calibre Giatsint cannon.

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday the enemy launched 74 attacks, launching 377 shells from mortars, artillery, tanks, Grad, UAVs and aircraft. The enemy fired 36 shells at Kherson. Also russian troops hit residential areas of the region’s settlements, a critical infrastructure facility and a building of an educational institution, the territory of a poultry farm in Kherson region, a shop building and the territory of a farm in Beryslav region, a business and a gym building in Kherson.

The State Emergency Service said that five rescuers were injured yesterday. A russian shell hit near the firefighters as they were extinguishing a fire in a building in Dnipriany, Bilozerka community. The shell also damaged a fire truck.

At night, the invaders shelled Olhivka. They hit the residents’ houses.  An 83-year-old woman received numerous burns. She was taken to hospital, but her injuries were too severe and she died.

Yesterday 31 crews, including 121 workers and 49 pieces of equipment, have been working to restore electricity in Kherson oblast and 35 workers from Kherson Regional Municipal Emergency and Rescue Service and the State Emergency Service have been working to restore buildings damaged by russian strikes in Kherson.

In total, sappers examined 76,709.7 hectares of territory in the de-occupied Kherson oblast, including 65,026.4 hectares of agricultural land. In these areas, 93,894 explosive items were found and defused.

104 people, including 19 children, were evacuated from the de-occupied territories of Kherson oblast. 93 people were evacuated by road and 11 by train.

Primary health care centre reported that an Environmental Coordination Working Group will be set up in Kherson oblast to create a register of crimes committed by russian invaders against nature. It will include representatives of regional and district authorities, territorial communities, public activists and experts.

Yurii Sobolevskyi, First Deputy Head of the Regional Council, said that in the temporarily occupied territory, the occupation authorities are preparing for the so-called “elections of deputies of Kherson Regional Duma”. However, the lists of “winners” are already available, they will be announced after the “elections”. According to him, the SBU has data about the so-called “election winners”. Most of them are involved in criminal proceedings, some of them have already been served with suspicion notices for other actions they committed earlier.

The restoration is ongoing. The Kherson Regional Emergency and Rescue Service sent a wheeled excavator and 8 cubic metres of board to Novovorontsovka community. A bulldozer will be used in Beryslav community to plan the territory of a waste landfill.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

As of today, 78,299 internally displaced persons have arrived in the region. Most people live in Lutsk and Kovel districts.  Among the IDPs: 24,906 people of working age, 2,216 people with disabilities, 7,216 pensioners, 94 large families, and 8 families of single parents. 

At the same time, 114 people who were internally displaced from Kherson region due to the explosion of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station arrived in the region. 78,299 internally displaced persons have arrived in the region as of today. Most people live in Lutsk and Kovel districts.  Among the IDPs: 24,906 people of working age, 2,216 people with disabilities, 7,216 pensioners, 94 large families, and 8 families of single parents.

Zakarpattia oblast

About half a thousand Transcarpathians took part in the patriotic race “I honour the soldiers, I run for the heroes of Ukraine”, which took place today in Uzhhorod. This was reported by the OVA. The participants received stickers with the names of the fallen defenders and ran a distance of 2 or 5 km in memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the independence and free future of our country.

This week, volunteers at the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Centre distributed 6️0️ packages to IDPs registered in Uzhhorod: 6️0️ packages with necessary things for children under 2 years old, 1️0️0️ food kits, 5️0️ hygiene kits.

The Uzhhorod City Council reports that during the week IDPs also received clothes, bed linen and utensils, a total of 2️5️0️0️ items. The humanitarian aid was distributed in partnership with PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is one of 15 oblasts of Ukraine that have joined the nationwide project to restore communities in the Kherson Oblast, “Side by Side”. This was reported by the OVA. 19 volunteers continue to work in the village of Davydiv Brid. In total, three teams are involved in the repair work, and four more specialists are involved in organising the construction process, delivering building materials and necessary equipment, which takes place on a weekly basis.  

With the support of Save the Children in Ukraine, children who will start preparing for school in September were provided with individual educational kits. These are backpacks with materials for creativity and development, which will be received by 8️0️0 children from privileged categories. We also donated 1️2️0️0️ copies of children’s literature to preschool education institutions in the region.

Lviv oblast

Preparations for the heating season were discussed during a meeting of the regional leadership with the heads of rayon administrations and communities in Lviv Oblast. As part of the preparations for the heating season, the availability and readiness for operation of backup power sources in educational and cultural institutions, heat supply and water and sewerage companies are being checked.  As in the previous year, the “Unbreakable” points will operate in the event of significant disruptions to the region’s life support systems, including massive missile attacks and prolonged power outages.

There are 864 “Points of Unbreakability” in the Lviv region. Most of them have been deployed by local governments, while others have been set up by the Lviv Oblast State Emergency Service and responsible businesses. By 1 September, the communities have to make an inventory of the equipment, check its serviceability, and stock up on fuel and lubricants for the smooth operation of the generators. 

The moratorium on Russian-language cultural products is being enforced in Truskavets health resorts. Yuriy Horun, Director of the Communications and Internal Policy Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration, said that on 25 August, representatives of the Interagency Working Group on Systematic Explanatory Work on the Moratorium on the Public Use of Russian-language Cultural Products in Lviv Region, together with the Department of Tourism and Resorts, inspected health resorts and catering establishments in Truskavets. During the raid, they visited about ten establishments in Truskavets.

In Stryi district, a memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of Sulyatytska school to two defenders of Ukraine, Mykola Luhovyi and Roman Kharyk. Mykola Luhovyi died on 16 January 2023 in a battle near Bakhmut. Roman Kharyk was killed on 28 March 2023 while performing a combat mission near Bohdanivka in Donetsk region. 

In the Sambir district, about UAH 200 thousand was raised to buy a car for soldiers from the Rudkivska community who are defending the state in the Zaporizhzhia direction. 

The Komarnivska community raised about UAH 10,000 for the needs of our soldiers at the Independence Day fair. The OVA reported that almost UAH 5,000 more was raised for the Armed Forces by young volunteers from the village of Pidhirne in the Pidberiztsi community. They were selling lemonade.

Three vehicles, two generators and funds for vehicle repairs were delivered to military units stationed in Drohobych district. The assistance was provided in cooperation with the Drohobych Regional State Administration, the KOLO Charitable Foundation, British-Ukrainian Aid, and local companies. 

The 30 kW generators were provided to the educational institution of the Belz community and the municipal hospital of the Velykomostiv community. They were provided by the Association of Local Councils “Councils of Lviv Oblast” and the International Organisation for Migration. 

A team from Lviv Oblast has completely restored the roofs of houses on a street in the village of Tavriyske, Kherson Oblast, as part of the “Side by Side” project. Next, they will replace windows and doors. In the village of Bila Krynytsia, which is also being restored by Lviv Oblast, windows and doors have been installed in half of the houses that need them.

Rivne oblast

45 safety classes have been set up in 28 communities in Rivne Oblast. According to Vitaliy Koval, head of the UBA, the classes are divided into several study areas and equipped with explosive dummies, fire safety equipment, and first aid.

In the Bereznovska community in Rivne Oblast, a campaign to collect plastic lids from food containers has been launched, with the proceeds going to purchase a drone for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Over the course of several days, the community collected 225 kilograms of plastic, raising UAH 3,500.

More than 20 cluster bombs hit a house in the village of Zahradivka in the Kherson region. The house has now been restored by repair crews from Rivne Oblast as part of the “Side by Side” project.

Rivne region joined the All-Ukrainian Patriotic Race. The event was held on the eve of Defenders’ Memorial Day, which will be celebrated on 29 August. The goal of the race is to honour the memory of fallen soldiers and express gratitude to the military and their families for their contribution to the preservation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity. Participants of the event include wives and mothers of the fallen heroes, employees of the regional state administration and regional council, representatives of the police, the State Emergency Service, the National Guard, and sports organisations of the region.

Ternopil oblast

The All-Ukrainian patriotic race in memory of the fallen soldiers “Honouring the soldiers, running for the heroes of Ukraine” took place in the Sopilche park in Ternopil. This was reported by the OVA. 

Ternopil sent monitors, laptops, TVs, routers, uninterruptible power supplies, and drives to the frontline. This was announced by the mayor of the city Sergey Nadal.

Today, a historical reenactment of the OUN (b) declaration of the struggle for the complete liberation of the Ukrainian people from Moscow’s invaders took place in the village of Vesnivka in Ternopil region. The event also included a special redemption of a stamp dedicated to the large collection and commemoration of Yaroslav Starukh.

Almost 140 thousand hryvnias were raised for the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a charity auction in the Baikovetska community. The bidders were able to buy artistically painted powder tubes from long-range shells.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Today, Deputy Head of the Regional State Administration Volodymyr Yuriev met with representatives of the UNHCR (Shelter and Non-Food Item (SNFI) Humanitarian Cluster in Ukraine). The foreign delegation came to Khmelnytskyi region to discuss the current humanitarian situation in the region, cooperation with the SNFI cluster and the priority areas for further work.

Chernivtsi oblast

Ruslan Zaparanyuk, Head of the Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration, presented the Presidential Award “For Defence of Ukraine” to Olga Kobevko, a medical doctor, volunteer and member of the Chernivtsi Regional Council, for her volunteer work and active support of the tasks related to the implementation of measures for the defence of Ukraine.

Members of the United Nations Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Violations in Ukraine will pay their third visit to Ukraine from 28 August to 4 September 2023.

This is stated in a statement by the UN Office in Ukraine. It is planned that the three commissioners participating in the mission – Eric Møse (chairman), Pablo de Greif and Vrinda Grover – will meet with government officials, including key ministers, members of civil society, representatives of UN agencies, international organisations and the diplomatic corps to discuss the situation in the country. 

Ukraine has begun negotiations with Canada on a bilateral agreement on security guarantees, the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, has announced. Canada is the third G7 country after the United States and the United Kingdom with which Ukraine has started negotiations. The bilateral security guarantees that Ukraine is to receive now will make Ukraine more secure even before it becomes a full member of NATO.

The Netherlands will transfer all of its F-16s to Ukraine – except for a few that will remain for training Ukrainian pilots. This was announced by Dutch Defence Minister Keesa Ollongren.

Slovenia supported the G7 declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine.  The G7 security declaration has now been joined by 19 countries.

Ukraine has received another Mi-17 helicopter from Latvia. This was announced by Latvian Defence Minister Murniece.

Lithuanian Defence Minister Arvydas Anušauskas said that his country is providing an aid package worth 41 million euros. The package will include ammunition, rifles, maritime surveillance radars, anti-drone guns, and more.

The Armed Forces of Ukraine received a medium-range anti-aircraft system “Kub-M2” from the Czech Republic.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Andriy Shevchenko, ambassador of the United24 @U24_gov_ua fundraising platform. Andriy Shevchenko presented a T-shirt signed by the players of the Game4Ukraine charity match, which took place in London on 5 August and brought together the world’s top football stars. The funds were raised to rebuild the Mykhailo-Kotsiubynskyi Lyceum in Chernihiv region, which was destroyed by the occupiers in March 2022.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Kyiv. They discussed, among other things, the risks associated with Russia’s blockade of the Black Sea grain corridor.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Oleksiy Kuleba met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Ukraine Seymur Mardaliyev. The parties discussed promising areas of cooperation in the regions of our country, in particular in the social and infrastructure spheres, medical and psychological rehabilitation for Ukrainian children affected by the Russian invasion, as well as assistance in the energy sector.

The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak delivered a video address to the guests gathered at the opening of the Russian War Crimes exhibition, which took place in Bratislava Castle (Slovakia) on 24 August, Ukraine’s Independence Day. The project presents photographs taken across Ukraine since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, documenting torture, executions, bombings and other crimes committed by Russians against civilians and the military. The exhibition will run until 30 August. In his video address to the audience, Andriy Yermak stressed the importance of implementing President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula as the only plan capable of ensuring a just and sustainable peace on the European continent.

The United States sees “viable” routes for Ukrainian grain exports, so a return to pre-war levels is possible in the coming months. This was stated by James O’Brien, the head of the Office of Sanctions Coordination at the US State Department.

The United States will join the training of F-16 pilots and engineers. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The world’s largest flag of Ukraine was unfurled in Boston on Independence Day. It is 60 m long, 40 m wide and weighs over 200 kg. More than 500 people took part in the event organised by the Ukrainian Cultural Centre of New England.

Children from Ukraine were given a tour of the Baykar factory in Istanbul. This was reported by the Consulate General of Ukraine in Istanbul.  Children from Odesa, Istanbul’s sister city, had a week-long holiday in Turkey at the invitation of the Turkish city hall, and as a gift for Ukraine’s Independence Day, they were organised a visit to Baykar’s production facilities.

Ukrainians abroad have also joined the annual patriotic tradition – the Honouring Soldiers, Running for Heroes of Ukraine race, which honours the memory of soldiers killed during the russian-Ukrainian war. In particular, residents of Germany ran 2, 5 and 10 km distances in different cities and towns.
