The defense forces of Ukraine are holding back the offensive of the russian occupants. On 20 February, the total number of combat engagements was 51.
Communities of settlements, specifically Krasnyi Khutir and Khrinivka in Chernihiv oblast, as well as Tovstodubove, Volfyne, Rohizne, Starykove, Budky, and Iskryskivshchyna in Sumy oblast, suffered from enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were two combat engagements with the enemy. The enemy launched two airstrikes, dropping three guided bombs, and carried out 34 strikes on settlements and positions of our troops, one of which involved the use of a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS). Units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted active operations and achieved certain successes.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the adversary attacked in the vicinity of the settlement of Vovchanski Khutory. Currently, no attempts by the enemy to advance have been observed.
Towards Kupiansk, the adversary moved forward once near Novoorynove.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out four attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinity of Zarichne, Drobysheve and Lyman. Three combat engagements are currently ongoing.
Towards Sloviansk, the occupiers tried to advance to Ukrainian troop positions in the vicinity of Yampil and Rai-Oleksandrivka. One attack is ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, there were no offensive actions by the enemy.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the invaders carried out ten offensive actions near Pleshchiivka, Rusyn Yar, Kostiantynivka, Ivanopillia, Berestok, and Novopavlivka. Three combat engagements are ongoing.
Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers tried 14 times to push Ukrainian warriors from their positions in the vicinity of Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and Novooleksandrivka. The defense forces are restraining the enemy; 13 attacks were stopped.
Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy tried to advance to Ukrainian troop positions in the vicinity of Stepove. Velykomykhailivka was hit by an airstrike involving guided aerial bombs.
Towards Huliaipole, there were ten attacks in the vicinity of Huliaipole and Zahirne, Olenokostiantynivka, Zaliznychne, and Sviatopetrivka. Five assaults are currently ongoing. Verkhnia Tersa, Zaliznychne, Hirke, Huliaipilske, and Charivne came under enemy airstrikes.
Towards Orikhiv, the occupiers attacked twice in the vicinity of Stepove and Mali Shcherbaky.
Towards Kherson, the defense forces repelled two enemy attacks near Antonivskyi Bridge.
In other areas, there are currently no significant changes in the situation. No enemy attempts to advance are being recorded.
Ukrainian troops are exhausting the enemy along the entire line of contact and in the rear.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Several dozen russian servicemen are hiding in multi-story residential buildings near the city hospital in Kupiansk. They receive logistical supplies via drones, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Grouping.
On the South-Slobozhanskyi axis, Russian forces attacked Ukrainian positions four times by 22:00 in the areas of Starytsia, Lyman, Vovchanski Khutory, and Kruhle, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
On the Kupiansk axis, Russian troops advanced near Pishchane and toward Novoosynove and Kurylivka. As of 22:00, three engagements were ongoing.
On the South-Slobozhanskyi axis, the occupiers attacked near the settlement of Vovchanski Khutory. As of 16:00, no enemy attempts to advance were observed.
On the Kupiansk axis, Russian forces advanced once toward Novoosynove.
Over the past 24 hours, 237 combat engagements were recorded.
On the South-Slobozhanskyi axis, the enemy attempted 12 times to break through the defensive lines of Ukrainian defenders near the settlements of Veterynarne, Zelene, Starytsia, Vovchansk, Vilcha, and toward Okhrimivka, Zarubynka, and Chuhunivka.
On the Kupiansk axis, the enemy carried out four attacks toward the settlements of Kindrashivka, Petropavlivka, Kurylivka, and Novoosynove.
As of 20:05 in Malynivka, three people were reported killed and two injured, the State Emergency Service reported. Emergency rescue operations are ongoing.
Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 11 settlements in the Kharkiv region came under enemy attack.
Two people were injured as a result of shelling.
In the village of Dvorichnyi Kut (Solonytsivka community), a 58-year-old man was injured; in the urban-type settlement of Malynivka, a 54-year-old man was injured.
The enemy launched a missile strike on the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv.
Russian forces actively used various types of weapons in the Kharkiv region:

▪️ 3 guided aerial bombs (KAB);
▪️ 13 Geran-2 type UAVs;
▪️ 1 Molniya type UAV;
▪️ 29 UAVs (type being determined).
Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:
▪️ in Kharkiv, a civilian building and 2 vehicles were damaged;
▪️ in Bohodukhiv district, an agricultural enterprise hangar was damaged (Hubarivka);
▪️ in Kharkiv district, 5 private houses, an outbuilding, and 2 vehicles were damaged (Peresichne); a farm was damaged and 100 pigs were killed (Dvorichnyi Kut);
▪️ in Lozova district, railway infrastructure, 2 apartment buildings, and 5 vehicles were damaged (Lozova); a private house was damaged (Novoukrainka);
▪️ in Chuhuiv district, a civilian enterprise was damaged (Martove), a grain storage facility (Pechenihy), and a civilian enterprise and 2 vehicles were damaged (Malynivka).
The transit evacuation center in Lozova received 108 people over the past day. Since it began operating, a total of 19,744 people have been registered there.
More than 8,000 plant species grow in the botanical garden in Kharkiv, including 3,000 in greenhouses that require a constant temperature. Due to regular power outages, the garden’s generator operates almost around the clock, said Oleksandr Alokhin, Deputy Director of the Karazin University Botanical Garden.
Donetsk oblast
Fragments of a Russian drone fell in the Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported. A private house was damaged. No information about injuries or fatalities has been received.
On February 19, police recorded 1,067 russian strikes along the front line and on residential areas of the region.
Three settlements came under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka and Kostiantynivka, and the urban-type settlement of Bilbasivka.
Seven residential buildings were damaged.
In Druzhkivka, a private house was damaged as a result of an FPV drone strike.
In Bilbasivka, russian forces dropped a KAB-250 guided aerial bomb, damaging six private homes.
In addition, information was confirmed about a civilian who had been wounded earlier as a result of shelling in the Donetsk region.
Luhansk oblast
russian occupiers attempted to advance 25 times on the Lyman and Sloviansk axes. Most of the assaults — 13 — were recorded on the Lyman sector. Fighting took place near eleven settlements. In the area of our responsibility, the enemy launched three strikes with tube artillery, carried out seven mortar attacks, and used drones in two cases.
In the so-called “LPR,” the occupiers are threatening to seize housing if utility bills remain unpaid for 12 months. They claim that if an owner has not paid for коммунal services for over a year, the apartment or house is considered ownerless property. This allegedly gives them grounds to “nationalize” the real estate. They began pressuring debtors in Luhansk, where they identified 690 such apartments.
In Dovzhansk, russian security forces are conducting thorough checks of local men. Raids are taking place in public areas. Many potential conscripts have all pages of their Russian passports photographed. They are also forced to show the contacts saved on their smartphones.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Over the past year, with funding from the regional budget, 10 shelters were put into operation across various communities in Kyiv Oblast, the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration reported.
A new shelter was built at the Boryspil “Patriot” Lyceum. It is a modern dual-purpose protective structure, partially underground, equipped with all necessary engineering solutions, a filtration and ventilation system, a medical unit, sanitary facilities, an individual heating unit, fire alarms, and an internal firefighting water supply, the OVA reported.
In an updated building of one of Kyiv’s hospitals, two new departments were opened — neurology and physical rehabilitation. According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the rehabilitation department has two halls equipped with specialized exercise machines and modern rehabilitation equipment.
In Bucha, a major renovation of the 104b multi-apartment building on Kyievo-Mirotska Street was completed. The building had been damaged during the Russian occupation of the community in spring 2022. It is now fully restored and operational. Symbolically, the veteran support space “Veteran PRO” — a center for Ukrainian defenders and their families — was opened in this building.
On February 19, the second exit of the “Lukianivska” metro station in Kyiv became operational, the KCSA reported. The ground-level vestibule of the station was one of the sites most damaged by Russian shelling of the capital. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, it had been hit seven times.
To maintain the educational process in Kyiv, remote learning and “educational migration” to institutions with guaranteed heating were introduced, the KCSA reported. Currently, 39 schools in the city operate remotely, with 14.8% of students learning online. The “educational migration” mechanism is applied in six districts of the city.
Zhytomyr oblast
During 2025, 90 applicants received grants to start or develop their own businesses under the “Own Business” program for combatants and their family members, the Zhytomyr Regional Employment Center reported. Of these, 30 were wives of combatants.
Over two days, February 18–19, more than 40 tenth-grade students from Zhytomyr learned basic general military training. They were taught weapons handling, as well as medical and tactical skills, as part of the updated school subject “Defense of Ukraine,” instructed by trainers with real combat experience.
Sumy oblast
From the morning of February 19 to the morning of February 20, Russian forces carried out up to 20 strikes on 14 settlements across 10 territorial communities in Sumy Oblast. The most attacks were recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. During this period, air raid alarms in the region lasted 18 hours and 33 minutes.
Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed as follows:
- In the Seredyno-Buda community, private residential houses were destroyed.
- In the Esman community, private residential houses were destroyed.
- In the Khutir-Mykhailivka community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
- In the Znob-Novhorod community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.
Medical assistance was sought by a 56-year-old resident of Seredyno-Buda, who was injured on February 18 as a result of mortar shelling, the regional military administration reported on February 20.
The Office for Recovery and Development of the Sumy community suspended its operations due to damage to the building where it is located, the city council reported. On February 17, Russian forces carried out massive attacks on civilian infrastructure in central Sumy. Operations will resume once the security situation improves and restoration works are completed.
During the day, local authorities, together with the State Emergency Service, National Police, and public organizations from border communities, evacuated six people.
Sumy Oblast is among the regions where additional payments for emergency medical service workers were introduced in 2026. Funding for emergency medical services in the region has increased to UAH 443.8 million — 36% higher than last year. The average salary of an emergency doctor in January exceeded UAH 41,000, the OVA reported.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 26 missions have been carried out in Sumy Oblast to relocate museum collections outside the region from nine institutions, the regional military administration reported. Recently, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a resolution establishing mandatory evacuation of museum items from areas within 50 km of the front line. Sumy Oblast currently has 16 communal museum institutions.
In Sumy, the “Nyankiny” theater hosted an evening of remembrance for Yevhen Markarov — a fallen soldier, sound engineer, musician, and actor. The event, held on the third anniversary of his death, was organized by Yevhen’s family, friends, and colleagues. Junior Sergeant Yevhen Markarov was killed on February 18, 2023, near the village of Ivanivske in Donetsk Oblast. He is survived by his mother, wife, and daughter.
Chernihiv oblast
In the morning of February 20, Russian forces attacked the border town of Semenivka twice with drones, the head of the Novhorod-Siverska RMA, Oleksandr Seliverstov, reported. Civilian infrastructure was damaged as a result. No information on casualties or injuries has been received.
On February 19, Russian troops attacked three border communities in Chernihiv Oblast Chernihiv Border Detachment.
On February 19, sappers in Chernihiv Oblast destroyed a Russian UAV over the Kyiv Reservoir, the Special Rescue Unit of the State Emergency Service of Chernihiv reported. The operation to neutralize the explosive device was complicated by the UAV being at a significant distance from the shore. Additional risk came from unstable ice, which made safe movement impossible.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
The enemy attacked the district with artillery, drones, and MLRS. This was reported by the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, Mykola Lukashuk. The strikes targeted the district center, as well as the Marhanets and Pokrovske rural communities. A 42-year-old man was injured.
Businesses, banks, a law office, administrative buildings, a post office, a café, a store, a gymnasium, eight vehicles, a trailer, and a power line were damaged.
The occupiers struck the Dubovykivka and Vasylkivka communities with UAVs. An 87-year-old woman was injured. A fire broke out, and a non-operational building as well as a private house were damaged.
As a result of a UAV attack in the Bohdanivka community, fires occurred. A 48-year-old woman was injured. Two private houses, a business, and a vehicle were damaged.
The enemy also attacked with artillery and drones, striking the district center and the Marhanets, Myriv, Pokrovske rural, and Chervonohryhorivka communities.
A man and two women were injured.
Fires broke out, and houses were burning. A dormitory, a multi-storey residential building, 12 private houses, a fire station, two greenhouses, a kiosk, an outbuilding, a vehicle, infrastructure facilities, gas pipelines, and a power line were damaged.
As a result of a UAV attack in the Pishchane community, a private house was damaged.
Vinnytsia Oblast
In Vinnytsia, more than 100 people took part in the “Angels of Remembrance” campaign, which has been held for the ninth consecutive year. Participants hung paper figures on the bronze “Tree of Freedom” as a symbol of remembrance for the fallen Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.
Kirovohrad oblast
In Kropyvnytskyi, residents honored the memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. Citizens laid flowers at the memorial plaque to Hero of Ukraine Viktor Chmilenko, who was killed on February 20, 2014, by a sniper’s bullet on Instytutska Street in Kyiv.
The memory of the participants of the Revolution of Dignity was honored with a moment of silence. Flowers were laid and candles were placed at the memorial sign bearing photographs of the Euromaidan activists.
Poltava oblast
At night, during another enemy attack, a UAV crashed on the territory of one of the enterprises in the Myrhorod Raion. As a result of the strike, a fire broke out.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
The Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, February 19, Russian forces carried out 652 strikes on 33 settlements in Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Russian troops launched 18 airstrikes on Zalivne, Samiilivka, Liubytske, Kyivske, Lisne, Zaliznychne, Kopani, Zahirne, Huliaipilske, Vozdvyzhivka, Verkhniа Tersa, Dolynka, and Hirske.
A total of 349 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV drones) attacked Zaporizhzhia, Vilniansk, Novomykolaivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Zelene, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Shcherbaky, Charivne, Varvarivka, and Dorozhnianka.
Five MLRS strikes targeted the areas of Huliaipole and Zaliznychne. Another 280 artillery strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Zelene, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Dorozhnianka, Charivne, Varvarivka, and Shcherbaky.
Forty-five reports were received regarding damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 16:00 on February 20, ten Russian attacks took place on the Huliaipole axis — near Huliaipole, Zahirne, and toward Olenokostiantynivka, Zaliznychne, and Sviatopetrivka. Five assaults are still ongoing. On the Orikhiv axis, Russian forces attacked twice, with clashes near Stepove and Mali Shcherbaky.
On February 19, Ukraine’s Defense Forces repelled 29 Russian attacks on the Huliaipole axis and two assaults on the Orikhiv axis.
The Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert Brovdi (“Madyar”), reported that during the night of February 20, fighters of the 414th Separate Strike UAV Brigade “Madyar’s Birds” simultaneously destroyed three Russian Tor surface-to-air missile systems in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Oblast.
Ukraine’s Defense Forces also struck a Russian drone command post, a warehouse, and a repair base in the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Oblast. In the frontline town of Stepnohirsk, concentrations of Russian troops were also hit. Casualties and the extent of the damage are being уточнюються (being clarified).
Mykolaiv oblast
The Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that on February 19, the enemy attacked the region with Shahed-131/136 type UAVs. Critical and energy infrastructure facilities were targeted. Five Shahed-131/136 attack drones and various types of decoy drones were shot down or suppressed.
In the evening, as a result of a Shahed-131/136 UAV attack in Bashtanka district, 55 settlements were left without electricity. As of 06:00, six settlements remain without power. Restoration work is ongoing.
The enemy also attacked the Snihurivka community with a strike drone, preliminarily identified as a “Molniya” type. There were no casualties.
Yesterday during the day, the enemy launched a ballistic missile strike on an open area in Voznesensk district, preliminarily identified as an Iskander-M missile. There were no casualties.
Additionally, the enemy attacked the Ochakiv community with an FPV drone. No casualties were reported.
Odesa oblast
The Odesa Regional Military Administration reported that the Chornomorsk community has received a modernized shelter capable of accommodating around 700 residents.
The project was implemented through joint efforts and with the support of the International Organization for Migration, funded by the government of the France.
The renovation covered 900 square meters of shelter space. This is the first of six facilities that will be upgraded by the IOM team to enhance the safety of residents in Odesa Oblast and improve the quality of social services provided.
Kherson oblast
The Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that around 14:00, Russian forces shelled the Korabelnyi district of Kherson. A 54-year-old woman sustained shrapnel injuries to her face, a concussion, and both explosive and closed traumatic brain injuries.
The head of the RMA, Yaroslav Shanko, reported that on the morning of February 20, 2026, Russian forces attacked the territory of a municipal enterprise in Kherson with drones. Several vehicles and auxiliary buildings were damaged as a result of the strikes.
The Kherson Regional Police informed that on February 19, Russian army fire hit Kherson, Antonivka, Oleksandrivka, Sadove, Kizomys, Prydniprovsk, Dniprovsk, Soldatske, Pravdyne, Berehove, Tavriiske, Nova Zorya, Romashkove, Yantarne, Nezlamne, Veletenske, Novodmytrivka, Rozlyv, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Beryslav, Novoraisk, Liubymivka, Kozatske, and Vesele.
The shelling damaged six private houses, railway infrastructure, a police service vehicle, two civilian cars, a village club, a commercial building, and three warehouse facilities.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of 16:00 on February 20, the Defense Forces repelled two enemy attacks along the Prydniprovsk direction toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.
The General Staff also reported that Ukrainian defenders struck a command and observation post and Russian troop concentrations near Liubymivka and on the Tendrivska Spit in the temporarily occupied territory. Russian army losses and the extent of damage are being clarified.

Volyn oblast
Lutsk community sent new pickup trucks, Mavics, FPVs, charging stations, satellite modems, electronic warfare systems and more worth UAH 15m to the military, who are performing combat missions in Kupiansk, Pokrovsky and Kostyantynivka regions.
Zakarpattia oblast
The RMA reported that over 15,000 people visited Points of Invincibility of the oblast in January.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
On the facade of Lyceum №12 in Ivano-Frankivsk, annotation boards were opened to our fallen Heroes. The Heroes were honored by Senior Soldier of the State Border Service Maksym Hlebov, soldier, Grenade Launcher of the 102nd Territorial Defense Brigade Dmytro Lediaev and Sergeant of the Main Intelligence Directorate Roman Verkalets.
Lviv oblast
At the request of the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade from Lviv oblast, 19 ATVs and buggies worth over UAH 12m sent to the front line. The funds were raised during a charity dinner in December.
Rivne oblast
A tax support service for participants of the Own Business program has been launched in Rivne oblast. The initiative is implemented jointly by the Tax Service and the Employment Service of Ukraine.
Ternopil oblast
Servicemen of the 434th Separate Unmanned Systems Battalion of the 15th Army Corps received 7 Acer Extensa laptops from Ternopil community.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
In 2026, Khmelnytskyi community sent over 120 DJI MATRICE 4T quadcopters to the Defense Forces. Purchased with budget funds, the cost is over UAH 4.5m.
Chernivtsi oblast
In Chernivtsi, the RMA discussed decommunization and patriotic education of youth. The Coordination Council considered the issue of removing soviet symbols, educational projects and organizing military-patriotic training.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The IMF will consider a new $8.1bn credit agreement for Ukraine in the coming days. Once approved, the new program is expected to replace the IMF’s current $15.5bn credit line. The Fund believes that this will help Ukraine maintain budget spending and macroeconomic stability in the context of the war with russia. According to Ukrainian authorities, the budget deficit could reach almost $140bn in the coming years.
