It has been the 1517  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:

Since the beginning of the day, the aggressor has launched 52 attacks on the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

Artillery shelling of border areas continues. Today, in the Sumy region, the settlements of Rohizne, Bachivsk, Malushyne, Iskryskivshchyna, Prohres, Sopych, Volfyne, and Korenyok were affected; in the Chernihiv region — Krasnyi Khutir.

In the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, the enemy attacked our defenders’ positions three times, carried out five airstrikes, dropped nine aerial bombs, and conducted 30 shelling attacks on populated areas and our troops’ positions, two of which involved multiple launch rocket systems.

In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy twice assaulted the positions of our units near the settlements of Starytsia and Vilcha.

In the Kupiansk direction, the enemy made four attempts to improve its tactical position toward the settlements of Kupiansk, Kivsharivka, and Novoosynove. Two engagements are still ongoing.

In the Lyman direction, Ukrainian forces repelled one attempt by the invaders to advance near Karmazynivka.

In the Sloviansk and Kramatorsk directions, the enemy did not conduct active operations.

In the Kostiantynivka direction, the invaders carried out 13 attacks near Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Stepanivka, and Sofiivka. Two engagements are still ongoing.

In the Pokrovsk direction, since the beginning of the day, the occupiers have attempted 17 times to push our troops out of their positions near the settlements of Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Pokrovsk, Udachne, Filiia, and toward the settlements of Kucheriv Yar, Vasylivka, and Novopavlivka. Two engagements are still ongoing.

In the Oleksandrivka direction, the enemy launched two offensives toward the settlements of Kalynivske and Zlahoda.

In the Huliaipole direction, the Defense Forces successfully repelled eight enemy attacks toward the settlements of Dobropillia, Tsvitkove, Zaliznychne, Hirke, Huliaipilske, and in the area of Huliaipole. The enemy also carried out an airstrike near Tsvitkove. Two engagements are still ongoing.

In the Orikhiv direction, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations but carried out an airstrike on Orikhiv.

In the Prydniprovske direction, the enemy conducted one unsuccessful assault toward the Antonivskyi Bridge.

In other directions, no significant changes in the situation have been recorded. No attempts by the enemy to advance have been observed.

Ukrainian forces continue to wear down the enemy along the entire line of contact and in the rear.

Ukrainian instructors are training Americans to use drones against drug cartels. The initiative was led by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). As part of the exchange, the sides also shared modern drone tactics, which are rapidly evolving with technological advancements. Training participants focused on the practical use of unmanned aerial vehicles to counter drug cartels and other criminal organizations that are increasingly using drones in their activities.

In Ukraine, payments of 1,500 UAH are ongoing for 13 million pensioners. According to the government, approximately 13 million people will receive this assistance. This includes not only age-based pensioners but also persons with disabilities, low-income families, recipients of basic social assistance, internally displaced persons, large families, and single mothers.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Over the past day, 206 combat engagements were recorded. In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, the enemy carried out 10 assaults on the positions of the Defense Forces near Synelnykove, Prylipka, Starytsia, Vovchansk, Vilcha, and toward Bochkovе. In the Kupiansk direction, Ukrainian troops repelled another 10 attacks in the areas of Kurylivka, Kolisnykivka, Kivsharivka, Borivska Andriivka, and Radkivka.

Soldiers of the 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade destroyed a group of Russian troops attempting to break through to the eastern part of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi: four occupiers were eliminated on the approaches, while two more took shelter in a house. In the Vovchansk direction, drone operators from the “Murchyky” battalion destroyed five boats carrying Russian troops who were trying to cross water obstacles.

On the night of April 20, Russian forces struck a farm in the Lozova community with three drones — the facility was damaged, and approximately half of the ducks and chickens were killed. In Velykyi Burluk, drones hit a three-apartment residential building: three people were injured, and a fire covering 200 square meters broke out.

Over the course of the day, Kharkiv and 20 settlements in the region came under attack. Nine people were injured: in Izium — a 45-year-old woman and men aged 52 and 35; in Velykyi Burluk — an 86-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man; in Bilyi Kolodiaz — a 53-year-old man. Cases of acute stress reaction were also recorded in a 70-year-old man and women aged 39 and 77. The enemy attacked the Osnovianskyi district of Kharkiv.

The Russian army used multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), five guided aerial bombs (KABs), 19 “Geran-2” UAVs, nine “Molniya” drones, two FPV drones, and 17 UAVs of unidentified type in the region. Civilian infrastructure was damaged in the Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Izium, Berestyn, and Lozova districts, including residential buildings, power lines, medical and educational institutions, businesses, a grain elevator, and transport infrastructure.

In Izium, Russian forces carried out several strikes: at around 23:45, a “Shahed”-type drone struck a warehouse again, damaging about 10 private houses and power lines. The city was also shelled with MLRS, injuring three people. In the village of Odnorobivka, two “Molniya” drones damaged apartment buildings and power lines; no casualties were reported.

Between April 13 and 19, nine people were killed in the Kharkiv region as a result of hostilities, 34 were injured, and 25 experienced acute stress reactions. Two people were killed due to explosions of explosive hazards.

An educational space for children from the Kupiansk community has been set up in a shelter at Kharkiv National University of Economics — 50–55 students study there daily, with extracurricular activities, psychological counseling, and meals provided.

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 43 people over the past day. Since the beginning of its operation, a total of 29,198 individuals have been registered there.

In the Kharkiv region, veteran rehabilitation is being developed through amputee football: an office and rehabilitation space for the “Unbreakable” club has been launched for training, recovery, and social adaptation of wounded service members. The facility includes a locker room and a rehabilitation area equipped with modern recovery systems, including compression therapy. The initiative aims to support veterans’ return to active life through sports and further development of such projects.

Donetsk oblast

On April 19, Russian troops carried out 79 assaults on the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. More than 60 battles took place in the Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka directions, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the Lyman direction, units of the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade are conducting a dynamic defense — holding back the offensive and periodically counterattacking to slow the enemy’s advance, which resumed mechanized assaults about a month ago.

On the night of April 20, the “Birds of Magyar” unit struck a radar station of the S-350 “Vityaz” surface-to-air missile system near Novooleksandrivka in the Donetsk region. This is a key element of the air defense system responsible for detecting aerial targets and guiding missiles.

Over the course of three days, military convoys were redeployed through temporarily occupied Mariupol from the Rostov region: more than 80 trucks carrying ammunition, 75 vehicles with personnel, and 15 transporters with armored vehicles were recorded, including equipment of the Russian National Guard.

On the morning of April 20, Druzhkivka came under Russian shelling: a residential house and an outbuilding caught fire in the private sector. The fire was contained over an area of 150 square meters, but rescuers were forced to suspend firefighting efforts due to the threat of a repeated strike.

On April 19, police recorded 1,222 Russian strikes along the frontline and on residential areas of the Donetsk region. Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Bilenke, and Mykolaypillia came under fire. Fourteen civilian objects were damaged, including one residential building: in Kramatorsk, a KAB-250 bomb damaged an educational institution, two administrative buildings, and an enterprise; in Druzhkivka, an FPV drone struck a nine-story apartment building; in Mykolaivka, an administrative building was damaged; in Bilenke, a civilian vehicle was hit.

Police officer Illia Maltsev from the “White Angel” unit received the “Crystal Lens” award in the “Hero in the Frame” category for rescuing civilians during evacuations. He was recognized for his ability to persuade people to leave dangerous areas and to support those who have experienced loss. Maltsev is originally from occupied Avdiivka and has been evacuating people from combat zones for four years.

In the Lyman community, where the frontline stretches over more than 100 km, more than 2,500 people remain under constant shelling. Evacuation and delivery of humanitarian aid are nearly impossible due to ongoing attacks and the remote mining of logistics routes.

Luhansk oblast

Over the past day, Russian forces attempted 6 assaults on the positions of Ukraine’s Defense Forces in the Lyman direction — advancing from Tverdokhlibove, Karmazynivka, and toward Hrekivka. The occupiers used mortars (6 times), automatic grenade launchers (2 times), tube artillery, as well as unmanned aerial vehicles and FPV drones.

In the occupied Luhansk region, a critical shortage of specialists and long-term queues are being reported. In Sievierodonetsk, only one notary is operating, with appointments fully booked 4.5 months in advance — until September, and new clients will only be scheduled after July 1.

Medical and social expert commissions in the occupied territory are unable to handle the number of people forced to reissue documents under Russian regulations. Daily queues persist, despite the extension of disability re-registration deadlines until the end of 2027 — a measure that does not resolve the staffing shortage and further highlights the incapacity of the occupation authorities.

In April, in Sievierodonetsk, the occupiers demolished another multi-apartment residential building that had been destroyed during the 2022 fighting, instead of restoring it.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
