War in Ukraine today: latest news, 19 April 2026 (photo)

It has been the 1516  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 19 April, the aggressor attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 84 times.

Artillery shelling of border areas continues. In Sumy oblast, the settlements of Korenyok, Bachivsk, Ulanove, Malushyne, Prohres, and Tovstodubove were affected; in Chernihiv oblast, Zaliznyi Mist was targeted. Vilna Sloboda and Pavlivka sustained airstrikes.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk: The enemy launched an airstrike using four missiles and carried out 49 attacks on settlements and troop positions, three of which involved multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Towards Southern Sloboda: The enemy launched seven assaults on Ukrainian positions near Synelnykove, Prylypka, Starytsia, Vovchansk, and Bochkove.

Towards Kupiansk: The enemy made three attempts to improve its tactical position near Kivsharivka and Radkivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Lyman: Ukrainian warriors repelled one attempt by the invaders to advance near the settlement of Hrekivka.

Towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk: The enemy conducted no active operations.

Towards Kostiantynivka: Invaders carried out 13 attacks in the vicinity Kostiantynivka, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Oleksandro-Shultyne, Novopavlivka, and Sofiivka. Two combat engagements are ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk: Occupiers have tried 32 times to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions in the vicinity of Bilytske, Rodynske, Dorozhnie, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Novooleksandrivka and Shevchenko. Two engagements are still in progress.

Towards Oleksandrivka: The enemy launched two offensives near Oleksandrohrad and Sichneve.

Towards Huliaipole: Defense Forces successfully repelled 16 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Dobropillia, Zelene, Sviatopetrivka, Tsvitkove, Zaliznychne, Pryluky, Olenokostiantynivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Huliaipilske, and Hirke. Airstrikes were recorded near Vozdvyzhenka, Huliaipilske, Liubytske, and Mykilske. Five engagements continue.

Towards Orikhiv: The enemy attempted to advance near Pavlivka. Additionally, airstrikes were launched against Vilnianka and Kushuhum.

Towards Kherson: The enemy conducted two futile assaults in the vicinity of the Antonivka Bridge and near Bilohrudyi Island.

On other directions, there are currently no significant changes in the situation.

 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Since the beginning of the day, russian forces have launched seven assaults on Defense Forces positions Towards Southern Sloboda—near Synelnykove, Prylypka, Starytsia, Vovchansk, and toward Bochkove. Towards Kupiansk, the occupiers carried out three more attacks near Kivsharivka and Radkivka; as of 16:00, one battle is ongoing. Over the past day, a total of 153 combat engagements were recorded, including three breakthrough attempts towards Southern Sloboda and four attacks towards Kupiansk. Russian troops are also attempting to penetrate Kupiansk and have increased pressure on the left bank of the Oskil River near Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, though without success.

On the morning of 19 April, a 48-year-old woman suffered an acute stress reaction in the village of Riasne following a Molniia UAV strike; a private house and outbuildings were damaged. Overnight, a Russian Geran drone attacked the village of Dovzhyk, damaging two private houses, outbuildings, and a car, with no casualties reported. Additionally, four KAB guided bombs struck near Svitlychne.

Throughout the day, Kharkiv and 19 settlements in the oblast were under fire. One person was killed and five others were injured:

  • In Bohodukhiv, a 30-year-old man was killed; a 41-year-old man and three women (aged 41, 51, and 50) were wounded.
  • In Velykyi Burluk, a 78-year-old woman was injured.
  • Separately, a 54-year-old resident of Borova, Ihor Arkhipov, was killed by an FPV drone attack.
  • A 30-year-old man died in the hospital following injuries sustained during a strike on the Bohodukhiv television tower on 18 April.

The russian army deployed a diverse arsenal against the Kharkiv region: 1 missile, 4 KABs, 6 Geran-2 UAVs, 1 Lancet, 8 Molniia drones, 6 FPV drones, and 33 unidentified drones. Civilian infrastructure was heavily impacted:

  • Kharkiv: An enterprise, a shop, and two high-rise buildings were damaged.
  • Bohodukhiv region: An orphanage/boarding school, at least 10 private houses, outbuildings, power grids, and transport were hit.
  • Kupiansk, Izium, Kharkiv, and Chuhuiv regions: Enterprises, warehouses, residential buildings, and vehicles sustained damage.

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 166 people over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of registered individuals to 29,159 since the point began operating.

In a Kharkiv hospital treating wounded soldiers, there is a constant need for medical supplies and basic items like disposable pads, wipes, paper towels, and cups. Volunteers use these to prepare 400–600 servings of coffee daily. Representatives of a charitable organization noted that while local communities provide clothing, food, and hygiene products, there remains a critical shortage of medications used to stabilize the psychological state of the wounded.

Olha Krivohub, a resident of Kharkiv oblast who lost her husband and three children (two-year-old twins and a one-year-old daughter) in a Russian UAV strike on 10 February, is currently recovering with her newborn daughter. After the tragedy in Bohodukhiv, she moved to the village of Sosonivka to start over. Her daughter was born on 11 March, exactly one month after the attack that killed her husband, a veteran. Despite the immense trauma and the difficulty of the recovery process, she shares that she is living for the sake of her child.

Donetsk oblast

Throughout 18 April, Ukrainian defenders repelled 68 russian assaults in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. The highest intensity of attacks was recorded Towards Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka.

The Defense Forces repelled a mechanized attack near Chasiv Yar—servicemen of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade destroyed enemy armored vehicles, cars, and landing troops. Additionally, Russian logistics warehouses containing materiel were struck in the Mariupol district.

On the morning of 19 April, russian forces attacked a high-rise building in Druzhkivka with an FPV drone. The strike hit an 8th-floor balcony, causing a fire; preliminary reports indicate no casualties.

During the day on 18 April, police recorded 1,396 strikes along the front line and residential sectors. Eight settlements came under fire, resulting in damage to 18 civilian objects, including 8 residential buildings.

  • Kramatorsk: One civilian was wounded by a UAV strike; damage included an apartment building, two private houses, a non-residential premises, and three cars.
  • Mykolaivka: Two people were wounded, and a private house was destroyed.
  • Rai-Oleksandrivka: One person was injured, and two homes were damaged.
  • Sloviansk: Two private houses were damaged by FPV drone attacks.
  • Kurytsyne: A UAV damaged an infrastructure facility.
  • Bilenke and Serhiivka: One vehicle was damaged in each settlement.

The front line in Lyman community exceeds 100 km, with over 2,500 people remaining in zones under constant shelling. Evacuation efforts and the delivery of humanitarian aid are significantly hindered by ongoing strikes and the remote mining of logistics routes.

Despite these challenges, 174 people were evacuated over the past 24 hours:

  • Druzhkivka: Four people were rescued by the Phoenix unit.
  • Lyman: Servicemen of the 63rd Brigade evacuated 10 people, including two families with five children, despite the persistent threat of drone attacks.

 

Luhansk oblast

Towards Lyman and Sloviansk, the enemy made 10 attempts to identify weak spots in the defense of Ukrainian units. Combat operations took place near six settlements. In Luhansk oblast, the enemy deployed 18 UAVs, used automatic grenade launchers three times, and carried out four mortar attacks.

russian authorities have introduced a special crossing regime between the temporarily occupied territory of Luhansk oblast and Russia’s Voronezh region. Entry and exit are now restricted to a single checkpoint, resulting in queues lasting up to 8 hours. Entry restrictions for specific categories of individuals have been implemented, alongside intensified controls and inspections.

In April, the occupation administration dismantled another apartment building that had been destroyed in 2022. Reports indicate that the occupiers are not conducting full-scale restoration of significantly damaged properties, opting instead for partial repairs or complete demolition.

Prior to 2014, there were 1,245 cultural and arts institutions operating in the Luhansk region. After the initial occupation began, 695 remained in government-controlled territory. Following the full-scale invasion, the majority of these institutions are now under occupation. Currently, 49 relocated institutions are operating across Ukraine, employing 322 staff members who continue their work in exile.

 

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

In Irpin, a major overhaul of a multi-apartment residential building is ongoing at 68 Mechnikova Street. The work is being carried out within the framework of the Program for the Restoration of Multi-Apartment Buildings in Kyiv Region for 2023–2026, funded from the regional budget. The four-story building, designed for 16 apartments, was damaged as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.

In Kyiv, the service for partial reimbursement of alternative energy sources has been digitized. Applications for compensation for installing a solar power plant in an apartment building can now be submitted via the Kyiv Services Portal. According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the updated municipal support program provides compensation of up to 50% of the cost of a solar power plant, but no more than 600,000 UAH per building.

On April 18, during a community clean-up event in Protasiv Yar in Kyiv, an American M67 combat hand grenade was discovered. Police and explosive ordnance disposal specialists were immediately called to the scene, as reported by the NGO “Protect Protasiv Yar.” This clean-up event is held annually by civil society activists.

This week, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard conducted mine safety training sessions for all students in grades 1–4 at one of Kyiv’s schools. Certified instructors, using a game-based approach, taught children how to recognize explosive hazards and follow the correct safety procedures.

Zhytomyr oblast

Thanks to state support, 426 internally displaced persons registered in the Zhytomyr region who hold the status of combat veterans will receive certificates to purchase their own housing. The total amount of funding allocated for this purpose exceeds UAH 852 million.

The largest number of applications has been approved in the Zhytomyr community — 256. Significant support will also be provided to defenders residing in Berdychiv, Zviahel, Korosten, Malyn, Ovruch, and other communities across the region, according to the Regional Military Administration.

Sumy oblast

The State Emergency Service of the oblast stated that during the night of 19 April, russian forces attacked Shostka by drones. A fire broke out at the site and was extinguished by rescue teams. No injuries were reported. According to the Regional Police, on the previous day a private house, a lorry, and a passenger vehicle were damaged in the community.

On 18 April, a russian UAV struck a fire station in Shostka region. The building and a fire tanker were damaged. At the time of the attack, all State Emergency Service personnel were in shelter, and no staff were injured.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that near Sumy on 18 April, a train driver was injured as a result of a russian drone attack. The UAV struck a train at approximately 5:30pm. The impact hit a locomotive.

According to the Regional Military Administration, as a result of russian shelling across the oblast over the past day, 18 April, one person was killed and seven were injured:

  • in Velyka Pysarivka community, a man was killed as a result of shelling;
  • in Seredyna-Buda community, men aged 51 and 73 were injured following mortar shelling;
  • in Sumy community, men aged 51 and 34 were injured as a result of a UAV attack;
  • in Verkhnia Syrovatka community, a 53-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man were injured following a UAV attack;
  • in Verkhnia Syrovatka community, a 72-year-old woman was injured during a UAV attack on the night of 18 April.

Over the past day, from the morning of 18 April to the morning of 19 April, russian forces carried out more than 70 attacks on 31 settlements across 17 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, MLRS, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 18 hours and 19 minutes over the day.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

  • in Shostka community, a civilian infrastructure facility, a multi-apartment residential building, private houses, outbuildings, non-residential premises, and vehicles were damaged;
  • in Seredyna-Buda community, a non-residential building was destroyed, and private houses, multi-apartment buildings, outbuildings, non-residential premises, and a cultural facility were damaged;
  • in Esman community, a private household was destroyed;
  • in Hlukhiv community, a private residential house, non-residential premises, and vehicles were damaged;
  • in Berezivka community, a lorry was damaged;
  • in Velyka Pysarivka community, an administrative building, a private house, an outbuilding, a non-residential building, and a civilian vehicle were damaged;
  • in Sadivka community, a cultural centre and a vehicle were damaged;
  • in Trostianets community, a non-residential building was damaged;
  • in Sumy community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
  • in Verkhnia Syrovatka community, a private house and a vehicle were damaged.

 

Chernihiv oblast

Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, Head of Chernihiv City Military Administration, reported that as a result of a large-scale russian UAV attack on Chernihiv during the night of 19 April, a 16-year-old boy was killed. Rescue teams recovered the child’s body while clearing debris. Four people were injured — three women and one man.

As a result of the night attack, Lyceum No. 22 on Levko Lukianenko Avenue, seven private houses (three of which were destroyed by fire), an administrative building, and two vehicles were damaged. Two kindergartens located near the lyceum were also damaged. Four strike locations were recorded in the city.

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, said that on 19 April, russian forces struck a residential area in Semenivka by an FPV drone controlled via fibre optics. A civilian vehicle was damaged.

At approximately 5:50pm, russian forces used a Molniya-type strike UAV to attack the private sector. A residential house and an outbuilding of a private household were damaged. At 1:53am, the enemy also struck civilian infrastructure by a Molniya-type UAV.

Over the course of 18 April, russian forces attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Horodnia. A total of 39 strikes were recorded.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that the enemy carried out attacks using tube artillery, Molniya-type UAVs, FPV drones, and also dropped explosive devices from UAVs. Nine settlements came under enemy fire.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Regional Council, reported that a 64-year-old woman was injured as a result of evening artillery shelling in Pokrovske community.

The occupiers attacked by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove, and Pokrovske rural communities. A fire broke out. A private house, a social facility, a greenhouse, infrastructure, a gas pipeline, and a power line were damaged. The enemy also attacked Raiivka, Mykolaivka, and Vasylkivka communities by UAVs. Fires broke out. A cultural centre and a multi-apartment building were on fire, while two private houses, an outbuilding, and six vehicles were damaged. In Kamianske, infrastructure and an enterprise were damaged following a UAV attack.

The occupiers also struck the region by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Marhanets, Myropve, Chervonohryhorivka, and Pokrovske rural communities. A fire broke out. A disused building, a private house, two vehicles, infrastructure, gas pipelines, and a power line were damaged. The enemy attacked Vasylkivka community by UAVs. Men aged 70 and 51 were injured. Fires broke out, and enterprises were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

Roman Oleksiv, who survived the missile strike on Vinnytsia on 14 July 2022, took part in Boston Marathon. On 18 April, he completed a 5 km distance. His father accompanied him throughout. 

Kirovohrad oblast

In Pomichna town, Novoukrainka region, a peaceful rally was held to remind the public about prisoners of war and missing servicemen. 

Poltava oblast

The Regional Military Administration informed that the enemy once again attacked Poltava region. A UAV strike hit a railway infrastructure facility.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that the russian military attacked Zaporizhzhia. Residential buildings were damaged. A 52-year-old woman was injured as a result of the attack. A total of 21 private houses were damaged.

The russian forces struck Balabyne settlement by KABs. Rescuers recovered the body of a 55-year-old woman from under the rubble. 3 women aged 59, 63 and 85 were injured. After receiving first aid, all are being treated on an outpatient basis. Private houses, cars and garages were damaged as a result of the shelling.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 18 April, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 12 russian attacks in Huliaipole direction. Fighting took place near Varvarivka, Pryluky, Tsvitkove and towards Sviatopetrivka, Staroukrainka, Zaliznychne, Olenokostiantynivka and Huliaipilske.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 18 April, 1 person was injured as a result of russian attacks on Zaporizhzhia. The russian forces carried out more than 750 strikes on 44 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, informed that as a result of today’s drone attack, 2 districts of Mykolaiv were left without electricity. Also, 4 private houses were damaged. There were no injuries reported.

The RMA reported that on the night of 19 April, debris from a downed UAV caused a fire in Mykolaiv oblast and damaged equipment at a transport infrastructure facility.

On 18 April, russian forces attacked Ochakiv community by MLRS. In both cases, there were no casualties reported.

On 18 April, air defence forces destroyed 8 Shahed drones and decoy UAVs over Mykolaiv oblast.

Odesa oblast

Reffering to the Air Force, in the evening, UAV movement was detected in the airspace over the Black Sea, heading toward Odesa oblast.

Kherson oblast

Based on the information provided by Kherson RMA, at around 6:30pm, russian forces attacked Bilozirka by a Molniia-type drone. A 33-year-old man sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his forearm.

In the evening, russian forces dropped 9 guided aerial bombs on Kherson, Chornobaivka, Bilozirka and Rozlyv. As a result, warehouse facilities in the regional centre and a company building in Chornobaivka were damaged.

At approximately 4:30pm, russian forces attacked Bilozirka by a UAV. A 58-year-old man who was in his yard sustained lower back injuries, a concussion, blast injuries and a closed head injury.

At around 2:30, russian forces attacked Korabelnyi district of Kherson by a drone. An FPV drone hit a high-rise building and a 60-year-old man sustained blast injuries and carbon monoxide poisoning.

In the morning, a man was killed as a result of a russian strike on a car in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. The 56-year-old man sustained injuries incompatible with life.

At around 6:50am, russian forces attacked a taxi in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. A 41-year-old man was injured and diagnosed with a mine-blast injury.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The oblast received 7 buses for Ukrainian military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and 2 minibuses for the needs of forest soldiers from Latvian partners and volunteers.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod united today in Uzhhorod Half Marathon 2026 charity race. 1,000 participants from different parts of Ukraine gathered in the regional center of the oblast to join the large-scale sporting event and at the same time support the Ukrainian military. All funds raised (over UAH 2m) will be directed to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 20 fiber-optic drones, 200 FPV drones, 3 Mavic 3T, Matrix 4T, 5 Starlinks and a control station to the 102nd Dmytro Vitovsky Brigade to Kherson oblast.

Lviv oblast

A large-scale charity evening was held in Lviv. The raised almost UAH 25m will be directed to modern ground robotic complexes and other vital equipment for support the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Rivne oblast

Veterans of Rivne oblast can play sports for free. Over 200,000 Ukrainian veterans took advantage of the Veteran Sports program in the 1st quarter of this year. They can receive UAH 1,500 for sports every quarter. The next stage of application will start in April.

Ternopil oblast

Military personnel of Ternopil community receive funds in the amount of UAH 15,000 for treatment and rehabilitation. During 2026, 234 military personnel received such assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

149 servicemen from Khmelnytskyi community will receive financial support for rehabilitation. The total amount of support is over UAH 2.1m.

Chernivtsi oblast

Memorial steles were unveiled at Berehometsky Lyceum №1 to 15 students who were killed defending Ukraine from the occupier. Among them is police colonel and rifle battalion platoon commander Yurii Berla.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

As a result of the Ramstein meeting, €2bn has already been raised for urgent deliveries as part of the air defense strengthening initiative launched by Boris Pistorius. A new project for training AI on combat data has also been presented.
