On 14 September, the Defense Forces of Ukraine continued their determined resistance, thwarting enemy attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory and disrupting russian plans for offensive operations. Today the fiercest fighting took place towards Pokrovsk and Kurakhove.
There were 83 engagements on the front line.
russian forces continue to use aviation and artillery against border settlements in Sumy oblast. Artillery strikes hit Nova Huta, Hrabovske, Vovkivka, Sopych, Ulanove, Novodmytrivka, and Bachivsk, while airstrikes targeted Nova Huta, Obody, Iskryskivshchyna, Pavlivka, Bilopillia, and Kindrativka.
Towards Kharkiv, russian forces launched three unsuccessful assaults on Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk.
Towards Kupiansk, russians attacked four times near Lozova and Synkivka. One attack was repelled, while three battles continue.
Towards Lyman, russian forces attacked in the vicinities of Druzheliubivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Novosadove, Zarichne, Serebrianka, and Terny. A total of 11 engagements occurred today, with five ongoing. The situation remains under control.
Towards Siversk, russians tried to breach Ukrainian defenses but faced stiff resistance near Verkhnokamianske and Vyiimka, with one ongoing engagement.
Towards Kramatorsk, one russians’ assault occurred near Andriivka.
Towards Toretsk, russian attacks have increased to six, with two assaults repelled near Toretsk and four repelled near Druzhba and Nelipivka. russian aviation bombed Kostiantynivka, Kleban-Byk, and Katerynivka, while Druzhba was hit by unguided rockets.
Towards Pokrovsk, russians launched 23 attacks today near Sukha Balka, Vozdvyzhenka, Zelenyi Hai, Novooleksandrivka, Novotoretske, Hrodivka, Krasnyi Yar, Novohrodivka, and Marynivka. All 23 attacks were repelled, but six battles are still ongoing.
Towards Kurakhove, russian forces attacked 27 times, attempting to advance near Selydove, Ukrainsk, Krasnohorivka, Dolynivka, Zhelanne Druhe, Heorhiivka, Kostiantynivka, and Katerynivka. Three battles are ongoing near Heorhiivka and Kostiantynivka.
Towards Vremivka, Ukrainian forces repelled two russian attacks near Vodiane and Zolota Nyva, with no success for the enemy.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian settlements of Piatykhatky and Lobkove were hit by unguided rockets.
Towards Kherson, two russian attacks failed.
The Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is taking all necessary measures to restrain the enemy’s advance and stabilise the situation.
103 Ukrainian prisoners of war have been returned home, including 82 soldiers and 21 sergeants, many of whom are defenders of Mariupol and Azovstal, with 23 being members of the Azov regiment.
Enerhoatom reported that over 100 russian drones and missiles have flown near Ukrainian nuclear power plants in recent weeks, posing an unprecedented threat not only to Ukraine but to the entire continent.

Kharkiv oblast
Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, informs that according to preliminary information, the four soldiers who were returned from captivity today are residents of Kharkiv oblast. Three defenders are from Kharkiv, one is from Zolochiv community. Two fighters from the Azov brigade and two from the Kraken special forces unit.
At 12:15pm, the occupiers launched a Tornado-S MLRS at the village of Pisky-Radkivski in Izium region. A 72-year-old woman was killed as a result of russian aggression, and her body was removed from the rubble by rescuers. Russians shelled the village of Pisky-Radkivski in Kharkiv oblast with Tornado-S MLRS on 14 September at 12:15. The State Emergency Service reported that on the afternoon of 14 September, russian troops attacked the Kurylivska community of Kupiansk region. As a result of the strikes, two farms and a car caught fire in the village of Novoosynove, and three outbuildings, a summer kitchen and dead wood in the village of Podoly. Preliminary, no one was killed or injured.
On 14 September at 04:47am, Kholodnohirsky district of Kharkiv was shelled. An unidentified aerial vehicle hit the territory of a residential complex, hitting the ground, no casualties.
At 11:11 pm, Zolochiv town was under the hit. As a result of the attack, 6 private houses, 2 outbuildings and three cars were damaged.
At 3:20pm, Kupyansk town was shelled. A 30-year-old woman was injured as a result of hostile shelling with an FPV drone.
At 3:16pm, Kupyansk town suffered. A private household was damaged as a result of shelling from an MLRS.
At 2:12pm Novoosynove village, Kupiansk region, was shelled. As a result of the shelling an outbuilding burned. A 65-year-old man was injured.
At 12:30pm Kupiansk was shelled. The buildings of the bread factory were destroyed as a result of the shelling by Iskander. A 64-year-old civilian man was injured.
At 11:00am the village of Dvorichna, Kupiansk region was shelled. A 47 year old man was injured as a result of the shelling.
At 10:20am the village of Lisne, Kharkiv region was shelled. As a result of the shelling, grass and branches on the area of 500 sq.m. and forest litter on the area of 1 hectare were burned.
At 10:03am the village of Borova, Izium region, was shelled. As a result of the shelling, coniferous litter on the area of 6.6 hectares burned. A 67-year-old man was injured.
There were four fighting incidents towards Kharkiv. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Vovchansk, Hatyshche, Hlyboke and Liptsy.
Towards Kupiansk, 11 firefights took place near Sinkivka, Hlushkivka, Lozova, Petropavlivka, Novoosynove and Stelmakhivka.
Donetsk oblast
The General Staff reports that the russian army has become more active towards Liman. Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian troops repelled 24 russian attacks there, compared to six attacks the day before.
Towards Kurakhove, russian troops attacked 43 times towards Ukrainsk, Heorhiivka and Zhelannyi Pershyi.
Ukrainian defence forces stopped 28 russian attacks towards Pokrovsk. Here, the occupiers attacked, in particular, near Selydove, Novohrodivka and Hrodivka.
The RMA said that the russian army destroyed the Vostochnyi overpass in Pokrovs. The russians attacked it in the evening of 13 September. It is currently impossible to move across the bridge.
Anastasia Medviedieva, Spokeswoman for the regional prosecutor’s office, informs that in the morning, russian troops shelled Toretsk and Kostiantynivka. The occupiers shelled Toretsk with artillery and wounded a 75-year-old woman who was on the street. The russian army shelled Kostiantynivka with three aerial bombs and damaged civilian infrastructure and power lines. There is no information on injuries or deaths caused by the shelling.
Serhii Lupol, inspector of the Fire Safety Department of the State Emergency Service in Donetsk oblast, says that more than 8,200 hectares of forests in Donetsk oblast have burned down since the beginning of 2024. Most of them are in the north of the region, where hostilities are ongoing.
Operational situation in the region as of the morning of 14 September:
Volnovakha region. One person was killed in Bohoiavlenka of Vuhledar community.
Pokrovsk region. A person was wounded in Kurakhove; 2 multi-storey buildings and 2 educational institutions were damaged in Hirnyk; 2 houses were damaged in Hostre. An enterprise was damaged in Hrodiv community. In Bilytske of Dobropillia community, 1 person died and 2 were injured, 3 houses and 2 enterprises were damaged. A person was killed in Pokrovske community and a house was damaged.
Kramatorsk region. In Poltavka of Illinivka community, 2 people were wounded and 12 objects were damaged; 4 more objects were damaged in Nova Poltavka and 3 in Kleban-Byk. A person was killed in Kostiantynivka, 2 multi-storey buildings, 3 non-residential buildings and a gas pipeline were damaged.
Bakhmut region. In Toretsk community, 2 people were wounded and a house was damaged. In Chasiv Yar community, 8 private houses, a multi-storey building and 2 industrial buildings were damaged.
In total, russians fired 23 times at the settlements of Donetsk oblast over the last day. 900 people were evacuated from the frontline, including 217 children.
Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reports that over the past day, russians killed 3 residents of Donetsk oblast: in Bilytske, Bohoiavlennka and Kostiantynivka. Another 4 people were wounded in the region over the day,’ said .
Luhansk oblast
The enemy is putting pressure on both Kupiansk and Lyman directions. The enemy attacks were repelled from Stelmakhivka, Hrekivka, Tverdokhlibove, Makiivka, Nevske and Bilohorivka. russians used attack aircraft near Novoiehorivka and in Serebrianka forest. Nevske and Makiivka were shelled with various types of artillery and drones.
Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Military Administration, says that a municipal emergency regime has been introduced in Dovzhanska community. The reason is the same – a large area of dead wood is on fire. It was not possible to localise the fire in time because there were not enough rescuers and transport. Due to the spread of the fire, traffic on the ‘republican’ highway towards Luhansk was even blocked.
Luhansk Regional Military Administration said that Sievierodonetsk is preparing to face the third winter without centralised heating. russians have prepared only three buildings for winter. Only three of the hundreds of high-rise buildings in Sievierodonetsk have their heating systems reconstructed.
The National Resistance Centre reports that russians have begun dismantling the power supply system at mines in three temporarily occupied settlements in Luhansk oblast.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the russian army continues to attack Kyiv oblast with drones. The alert lasted all night, air defence forces deployed, targets downed, no casualties, no hits to residential or critical infrastructure. Damage was recorded in two oblast districts as a result of the falling debris. Two private houses and an outbuilding were damaged in one of the districts and the glazing of an apartment building and a car in the other. The owners of the damaged houses are to be provided with the necessary assistance. Operational groups continue to work on recording and eliminating the consequences of the night attack.
The press service of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv oblast reported that on 14 September, 103 members of the Armed Forces returned to Ukraine as a result of the exchange of prisoners with russia. In particular, Oleksii Danchenko, an assistant shift commander of the Operational Coordination Centre of the State Emergency Service of Kyiv oblast, returned from captivity. Oleksii was part of the group that organised the evacuation and escorted civilians from Hostomel during the occupation of the city in 2022.
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the RMA, announced that Kyiv oblast handed over 25 pick-up trucks to three military units. The vehicles have been thoroughly tested to ensure that none of them breaks down. Not only the efficiency and effectiveness of the tasks, but above all the lives of Ukrainian defenders depend on it.
The RMA also reported that a race in support of prisoners took place in Kyiv. The advocacy race for the release of military and civilian Ukrainians from captivity was initiated by students of Kyiv School of Economics and American professor and historian Timothy Snyder. The race was joined by members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, veterans, Ukrainians who survived captivity, and families of prisoners waiting for their loved ones to return.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr Oblast Administration reported that the Kurne community of the Zhytomyr oblast took part in the project ‘Firefighters. Strengthening the capacity of Ukrainian communities through the development of voluntary fire brigades’. The project is being implemented with the financial support of the Polish Development Cooperation Programme of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, as well as the Office of the Coordinator of US Assistance Programmes in Europe and Eurasia within the framework of the 10th round of the “Development Cooperation Partnership Program”.
On 13 September, Lieutenant Colonel Denys Storozhuk from Zhytomyr oblast was returned from captivity. Denys was taken prisoner after defending Azovstal during the battle for Mariupol. Now, after a long stay in captivity, Denis has returned home to his native land.
Sumy oblast
During night and morning, russians carried out 6 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 17 explosions. The attacks targeted Krasnopillia, Bilopillia and Khotin communities.
During the day, 13 September, russians carried out 84 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 177 explosions. The attacks targeted Myropilia, Yunakivka, Lebedyn, Velyka Pysarivka, Krasnopillia, Esman, Bilopillia, Druzhbivka, Nova Slobidka, Yampil, Seredyna-Buda, Hlukhiv, Putyvl, Shalyhyne and Svessa communities.
Myropilia community: russians shelled the community by artillery (29 explosions) and struck by FPV drones (8 explosions).
Yampil community: the enemy hit by GAB (4 explosions), as a result of which two civilians were killed, 9 were wounded, among them one child.
Bilopillia community: an airstrike by GAB (7 explosions), MLPS (3 explosions) and attacks by UAVs (2 explosions).
Krasnopillia community: the enemy conducted artillery shelling (8 explosions), mortar shelling (13 explosions), carried out strikes by FPV drones (6 explosions).
Esman community: an attack by FPV-drones (3 explosions) and mortar fire (2 explosions).
Druzhbivka community: an attack by FPV-drones (8 explosions), artillery strikes (10 explosions) and airstrikes by GAB (3 explosions).
Velyka Pysarivka community: mortar fire (25 explosions) and attacks by FPV-drones (16 explosions).
Seredyna-Buda community: attacks by FPV-drones (1 explosion).
Lebedyn community: an airstrike by GAB (1 explosion).
Nova Slobidka community: an artillery strike (1 explosion), mortar fire (2 explosions), attacks by FPV-drones (2 explosions).
Shalyhyne community: attack by UAVs (6 explosions), artillery shelling (2 explosions) and MLPS (3 explosions).
Svessa community: airstrikes by GAB (3 explosions).
Hlukhiv community: an airstrike by GAB (1 explosion).

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, participated in the opening of the Ukrainian Army Recruitment Center in Okhtyrka and inspected the construction site of a radiation shelter at an educational institution. Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that in Trostianets, he oversaw the restoration work at the railway station, the surrounding area, and road repairs. The recruitment center in Okhtyrka, which has been established at the local Administrative Services Center (CNAP), will provide citizens with consultations on military service opportunities and available vacancies.
Chernihiv oblast
Throughout the day, russian forces attacked two border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Semenivka and Novhorod-Siverskyi communities, using mortars, FPV-drones, and combat drones. A total of 41 explosions were reported.
Novhorod-Siverskyi community:
Towards Hremiach – 13 hits, likely by FPV-drones.
Semenivka community:
Towards Semenivka – 8 hits, likely by barrel artillery;
Towards Karpovychi – one drops an explosive device from UAVs and 19 hits, likely by barrel artillery.
No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported as a result of the shelling.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv RMA, reported that due to constant shelling of the border area, 15 residents have been evacuated from one of the villages in Semenivka community in recent days. On 14 September, a local woman and her son were evacuated to a modular home farther from the border, while another village resident was relocated to a care facility for the elderly.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that at night, and in the morning on 14 September, the occupiers shelled Nikopol with artillery, and fired on the Marhanets community.

According to the updated information, a 67-year-old woman was injured in the morning shelling of Marhanets community.
The enemy sent a kamikaze drone to Zelenodolsk community. It hit an agricultural enterprise there.
According to Serhiy Lysak, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, eight residents of Dnipropetrovsk oblast have been returned from captivity. Three defenders are from Dnipro region. The same number are from Kryvyi Rih and two are from Nikopol.
Vinnytsia oblast
Mayor of Vinnytsia, Serhii Morhunov, says that as part of the latest exchange, Viktor and Oleksandr, natives of Vinnytsia oblast, returned home.
Vinnytsia is hosting a photo exhibition called Chronicles of Evacuation, dedicated to the rescue of civilians. The exhibition features photographs that reflect the work of the Vostok SOS charity foundation.
Kirovohrad oblast
Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad RMA, reported that since the beginning of the war, Kirovograd oblast has received 39 evacuation trains from Donetsk oblast.
A charity marathon, the Topolki Run, was held in Oleksandriia community of Kirovohrad oblast. It raised money to support the Ukrainian military. 189 participants joined the race. The marathon raised UAH 33,000. The money will be used to purchase FPV drones for the military.
Cherkasy oblast
Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that defenders shot down nine enemy UAVs over Cherkasy oblast.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
According to the Southern Defence Forces, on the night of 14 September, air defence forces in southern Ukraine shot down 32 Shahed-136/131 strike drones, including 3 in Kherson oblast, 1 in Mykolaiv and 27 in Odesa. Also, a ZALA reconnaissance drone was destroyed.
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, reported that on 14 September, a 48-year-old man was killed in a massive russian shelling of Orikhiv community.
Soldiers of the 4th Special Operations Unit Omega of the National Guard of Ukraine repelled a russian assault by FPV drones in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
3 people were killed as a result of a russian strike on Huliaipole community in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
On 13 September, the russian military carried out 317 strikes on 8 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
Vitalii Kim, Head of the RMA, informed on 14 September, 15 residents of Mykolaiv returned from russian captivity.
On 13 September, the russian military shelled the waters of Ochakiv community by artillery and attacked Kutsurub community by a Lancet drone. There were no injuries reported.
Odesa oblast
On the night of 14 September, the russian military attacked Odesa by drones. This time, the targets of the Shaheds were Odesa and Izmail regions. 3 structures were destroyed, and a residential building and a garage were damaged. There were no casualties or injuries reported.
According to the Ukrainian Navy, in the Black Sea, there are currently 16 russian ships, 7 of which are carrying Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total capacity of up to 48 missiles.

Kherson oblast
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, said that on 14 September, a 55-year-old man was killed in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. He sustained blast injuries, an open head injury, brain contusion and shrapnel wounds.
Roman Mrochko, Head of the CMA, informed that a 47-year-old man was wounded in Antonivka near Kherson. He suffered blast trauma and shrapnel wounds.
According to the SES, the russian military is attacking Kherson by drones. A 48-year-old man in Beryslav and a 57-year-old woman in Stanislav were injured.
In the afternoon of 14 September, firefighters extinguished fires caused by russian shelling. 3 residential houses burned down in the suburbs of Kherson. There were no casualties reported.

The RMA stated that the russian military shelled Veletenske village. A 66-year-old woman sustained a head injury, brain concussion, and blast trauma.
At around 6pm, russian forces dropped explosives from a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. A 32-year-old man was injured.

Volyn oblast
Among the 103 soldiers released from russian captivity, there are 3 military from Volyn oblast. Vladyslav Kovelchanin, Dmytro Klymovych and Vladyslav Luchanin were held captive for over 2.5 years.

Zakarpattia oblast
The team of the LD&Varosh Dental Clinic was awarded with a certificate of Uzhhorod City Council for volunteering in providing dental services to military personnel undergoing treatment in Uzhhorod medical institutions, conscientious work in implementing the city program of providing dental services to military personnel and family members of fallen soldiers.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The RMA reported that border guard Andrii Pluhatorik from Kolomyia region was returned from russian captivity.
Lviv oblast
The oblast sent 63 attack drones worth UAH 1,344,000, of which UAH 300,000 was allocated from regional budget of Lviv oblast to the 67th Separate Mechanised Brigade, the 101st and 125th Brigades of the Territorial Defense Forces and a special unit of the National Guard.
The 15th convoy with 34 cars from farmers of Great Britain arrived in Lviv for Ukrainian defenders as part of the Pickups for Peace campaign. The transport will help them carry out combat tasks – evacuate wounded military or civilians, transport equipment, etc.
The 1st Safety Classroom was opened in Krasnensk community. In total, this is the 15th Safety Classroom opened in Zolochiv region this year. In 2024, 94 such classrooms have been put into operation in schools of Lviv oblast. Another 35 will open by the end of the year.
Rivne oblast
455 educational institutions of Rivne oblast conducted mental health lessons at the beginning of this academic year. Among them are 410 schools, 27 institutions of higher, professional pre-higher education and 19 institutions of professional technical education. 101,000 students took part in these lessons. This is one of the steps forming a conscious attitude of children and youth towards their mental health and development of emotional self-regulation skills. They took place as part of the All-Ukrainian program How are you?, initiated by First Lady Olena Zelenska.
A memorial plaque was opened on the facade of Rivne Lyceum №22 in honour of fallen Hero Oleh Havruk. He served in the navy. 51-year-old senior soldier Oleh Havruk joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a volunteer in the 1st days of the full-scale invasion and was killed on 8 October 2023, during hostilities in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The installation of memorial plaques to the fallen defenders of Ukraine at general secondary education institutions in Rivne community takes place in accordance with the Rivne – City of Heroes program at the expense of taxpayers.
Ternopil oblast
Ternopil community sent 3 anti-drone guns and 3 trench electronic warfare devices to the 83rd Territorial Defense Battalion. This equipment was manufactured as part of the city’s Competition for Innovative Projects in the Field of National Security.
13 defenders received the title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Ternopil posthumously. The title was awarded for a significant personal contribution to Ukrainian statehood formation and personal courage and heroism, demonstrated in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi City Council provided financial aid to 207 residents of the community in the amount of UAH 2.3m. Among those who received assistance – 12 families of the deceased (UAH 360,000), 42 military servicemen or veterans for rehabilitation (over UAH 600,000), 87 active military personnel for personal expenses (over UAH 650,000). Also, 5 households that suffered from terrorist attacks will receive assistance (over UAH 290,000).
Chernivtsi oblast
In the oblast, the Mandroterapiia project for the military is ongoing. This time, rafting down the Dniester river is organised for defenders undergoing rehabilitation after serious injuries: the safety component and load were thought out in detail.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Andrej Plenkovich, Prime Minister of Croatia, announced the 11th aid package for Ukraine in the amount of €5m. The funds will be used to restore the energy sector. The country has already allocated €300m in aid to Ukraine.
Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister, announced that Great Britain will allocate GBP 30m pounds to support the Ukrainian energy industry.
The website of the Confederation of Finnish Industry states that the country launched a collection of donations for energy equipment for Ukraine. They seek to attract business representatives from Finland to participate.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Troels Poulsen, Minister of Defense of Denmark. They discussed joint production of weapons and the strengthening of Ukrainian positions.
