War in Ukraine today: latest news, 14 July, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 872nd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The most tense situation remains towards Pokrovsk, where more than a third of all fighting took place.  Also, the invaders are actively storming towards Toretsk. The number of fighting across the front line increased to 66.

On the border of Sumy and Chernihiv oblasts, russian terrorists continue to strike from their territory. Chernatske , Mikhalchyna Sloboda, Karpovychi, Hramiachka and Yunakivka were under fire.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy carried out three attacks. He unsuccessfully stormed Vovchansk and Hlybike. On the other hand, terrorists actively continue to strike KABs from the russian territory on Ukrainian villages and cities. In particular, from Belgorod side, four airstrikes were carried out in the vicinity of Lyptsi, four airstrikes broke out near Vovchanski Khutori, and Vovchansk suffered two airstrikes by six KABAs from the direction of Shebekino (russian federation). In addition, the enemy bombed Starytsia and Hlyboke, and Veterynarne was hit by helicopters with unguided air missiles.

Towards Kupiansk, three enemy attacks were successfully repelled near Pishchiane and Stelmakhivka. In the vicinity of Petropavlivka, 16 russian NARs were recorded.

Towards Lyman, the enemy stormed Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Hrekivka and Makiivka 4 times, near the latter, with the support of the army aviation and released 20 NARs. Also, unguided air missiles hit Serebrianka forest.

Towards Siversk, there are no attempts by the russian invaders to counter the Ukrainian defense. Six attacks were repelled there. Two more clashes continue in the vicinity of Spirne and Rozdolivka.

Towards Kramatorsk, there were 5 combat clashes. The enemy unsuccessfully stormed near Hryhorivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanovsky and Andriivka. 

Towards Pokrovsk, the russian occupiers are currently conducting two attacks. There were 24 in total in that area. Almost all of its efforts the enemy applied in the vicinity of Novooleksandrivka and Prohres – where there were 19 battles. The fighting also took place near Vozdvizhenka, Yasnobrodivka and Novoselivka Persha. At the same time, three KABs bombed Ivanovka and Lysychne. In the vicinity of Oleksandropol, russian aircraft struck three times with unguided missiles.

Towards Kurakhove, two attacks were repelled near Krasnohorivka and Paraskoviivka.

Towards Vremivka, the enemy, also twice, attacked near Kostiantynivka and Vodiane. He carried out three airstrikes in the vicinity of Velika Novosilka. All the enemy’s attempts to advance were repelled by Ukrainian soldiers.

Towards Kherson, on the left bank of the Dnipro River, the russian aggressor is trying to continue attacking Krynky. There, two enemy assaults were repelled. In the vicinity of Lvove the invaders dropped four air bombs.

In other directions, the situation is unchanged.


President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that during the week, russia attacked the territory of Ukraine with 700 KABs and almost 80 missiles. More than 170 attack drones of various types. 

Kateryna Chernogorenko, Deputy Minister of Defense for Digital Development, Digital Transformation and Digitalization, says that Ukraine’s DELTA combat system has received high praise from NATO’s High Commander for Transformation, General Philip Lavin. NATO representatives note significant work on ensuring the compatibility of Ukraine and NATO systems, as well as innovative approach in the development of the DELTA combat system

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

At some positions of the russians towards Kharkiv, the epidemiological situation has deteriorated. According to Kharkiv Operational Command, the reason for this was the impossibility of evacuating irretrievable losses. The military note that towards Kharkiv, the occupiers lost 120 people on 13 July.

The Prosecutor’s Office reported that a 70-year-old woman was injured as a result of the shelling of Kruhliakivka Kupiansk region . The woman was treated on the spot. In the morning the russian military shelled Kupiansk, where warehouses on an area of 200 square meters were on fire.

53 enemy KABs, 2 Iskander-M, 1-FPV drone and 1 Shahed UAV were launched on the territory of Kharkiv oblast.

The day before, at 10:30 pm, Kupiansk community, and the city of Kupiansk were affected. An apartment building was damaged during the shelling by an FPV drone.

At 6:47pm Kupiansk city was shelled. As a result of the shelling from the RSZV, the former incubator was burned and  4 private houses damaged. Two women, aged 72 and 73, were injured. 

At 3:40pm, Buda settlement of Pivdennomiska community, was twice hit with Iskander in the ground near the railway station. 26 residential buildings, 9 administrative buildings, 2 cars, a station building, 3 auxiliary buildings and a railway line were damaged. 2 people were killed: Artem Kostyr, head of Kharkiv regional department of the SIS and Oleksiy Koshchii, policeman. 25 people, including 2 children, a 14-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, were injured.

Among the nine hospitalized, three wounded are treated on an outpatient basis, three require surgical intervention, two people are in average condition. The 14-year-old girl will continue treatment in a children’s hospital, her condition is moderate.

At 12:28am, Kupiansk-Uzlovyi was hit. As a result of enemy shelling, the roof of the two-storey building was burning.

At 12:10am, Pristin village of Kupiansk region was shelled. As a result of the shelling, the truck and the grass burned in the open area.

At 11:50am, the shelling was carried out by the villages of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, Kupiansk region. A 39-year-old woman was injured.

Towards Kharkiv, there were 13 fighting clashes in the vicinity of Hlyboke and Vovchansk. 

Towards Kupiansk, the number of attacks was 18. The defense forces repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Vilshana, Petropavlivka, Novoselivka, Pishchiane, Berestove and Stelmakhivka.

Donetsk oblast

The General Staff reported that the Armed Forces repelled 145 russian assaults in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts on July 13. Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled 40 assaults and offensives, where the russian army used aviation.

Russian forces also carried out air strikes on nine settlements in Donetsk oblast.

Towards Sivershchyna, the russian army is pressing on Siversk from the north, east and south – in the areas of Spirne, Rozdolivka and Vyimka. Towards Kramatorsk, there were attacks on Chasiv Yar, as well as fighting to the south – near Klishchiivka and Andriivka.

Towards Toretsk, the russian army is trying to break into Toretsk from the area of the village Pivnichne (it is in the east of the city), and from the south – from the captured Yuriivka through Niu-York. Despite the statement of the russians, there is no russian military in Toretsk. The defense forces repelled attacks in these directions, also stopped the movement of the russian army in the north of Kharkiv oblast.

Nazar Voloshin, Spokesman of the OSU “Khortytsa”, reports that russian troops have shelled Chasiv Yar 325 times. Most of the shelling falls on the southern part of the settlement.

In Mirnohrad, the russians hit an administrative building and a multi-storey building, killing 1 person, injuring 6. According to preliminary information, 2 more people are under the rubble.

Towards Lyman, 3 people were injured, at least 1 house and a cafe were damaged.

Oleksandr Zhuravlov, Head of the CMA, says that two hundred children and their parents were evacuated from five settlements of Lyman community – Lyman, Lypove, Nove, Karpivka, Stavky. 

Operational situation in the region as of the morning of July 14:

Volnovakha region. In Novocheretuvate, Komar community2 people were killed and 1 wounded, 10 houses, a shop and a power line were damaged by aerial bombs; in Shevchenko houses were damaged .

Pokrovsk region. In Novoselivka Persha, Ocheretyne community  2 people were killed. 1 person was killed and 1 wounded in Kostiantynivka. 4 people were injured in Mirnograd.

Kramatorsk  region. In Kostiantynivka community,  2 houses were damaged in Novomarkovo. There was a fire in the Andriyiv community.

Bakhmut region. In Chasiv Yar community, 1 person was injured, 7 private houses, 4 multi-storey buildings and an industrial building were damaged. In Niu York, 2 people were injured, 2 houses damaged; 5 houses and 2 administrative buildings were damaged in Toretsk. A multi-storey building was damaged in Pivnichne.

In total, the russians shelled the settlements of Donetsk oblast 19 times. 128 people were evacuated from the front line, including 13 children.

Vadim Filashkin, Head of Donetsk regional administration, reported that the russians killed 6 residents of Donetsk: 2 in Novocheretuvate and Progress, 1 in Constantinople and Novoselivka First. Another 11 people in the region were wounded in the day. 

Luhansk oblast

Another person agreed to leave the front-line village, a 60-year-old resident of Nevske. He was helped to get to Sloviansk, where his relatives live. Krasnorichensk military administration will provide all necessary assistance to the evacuee.

Yesterday, Nevske came under fire from artillery and drones.

The enemy shelled Makiyivka from artillery, rocket system volley fire and actively used drones in the specified area.

The russians carried out assault operations in Bilohorivka, near Stelmakhivka, Hrekivka, and Makiivka.

Residents of occupied Kreminna are choking in household garbage. No one picks it up from the collection points for more than a month.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, says that the so-called “Ministry of Education of luhansk People’s Republic” has been tasked with forming detachments of the “movement of the first” in every class without exception. Lists of those students who will join will be submitted in reports at the local and regional levels.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of Kyiv Regional Military Administration, announced  the allocation of more than UAH 63.4m for the logistical support of Ukrainian military units since the beginning of May.

Another batch of trucks was handed over to the soldiers of the 72nd Brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians by the community of Bila Tserkva. They were purchased at the expense of the local budget. Last month, thanks to the community of Bila Tserkva, six German MAN trucks were delivered to the soldiers.

In Kyiv, KARS rescuers evacuated valuable property and documents from the rubble of a house in Syrets that was hit by a russian missile on 8 July. Using a fire truck, the rescuers found and evacuated belongings from 11 apartments in the building.

The Kyiv City State Administration informed that applications for financial assistance for those affected by the shelling of the capital continue to be accepted in Kyiv. KCSA noted that since 2022, almost 5,400 Kyiv residents affected by russian shelling have received one-time targeted financial assistance under the city’s program “Care. Towards Kyiv residents”. The total amount of payments was almost UAH 54m.

The Ministry of Health reported that the doctors at Okhmatdyt Children’s Specialised Hospital have performed the first operation on a young patient after a missile strike on the facility. The operation took place at the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital currently equipped with a temporary surgery unit.

The Irpin city council informed about providing free housing to elderly people who have lost their homes. The charitable foundation “To Ukraine with Love” invites people of retirement age who lost their homes during the war to stay at the Vorzel sanatorium free of charge. The sanatorium is equipped with everything necessary for people to stay.

The Ukrainian Women’s Guard and Tana Sribna invite you to participate in a warm women’s creative circle for psychological support, rehabilitation and needlework. The next meeting will be held in Kyiv on 18 July at the Lesya Ukrainka Public Library for Adults.

A training on countering disinformation for women leaders will be held in Kyiv on 16 July. The educational programme is being organised by Detector Media in cooperation with the Association for Innovative and Digital Education. The training will help learn to distinguish between disinformation and hostile propaganda messages, think critically, see through the bright headlines to the motivation for destructive actions, and observe digital security.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration said In the capital, children of military personnel and veterans of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be able to visit the Galaxy Park entertainment zones in two shopping malls free of charge on one day of the week. The business owners reached this agreement with the Kyiv Military Hub organisation.

A mural is being created on Reitarska Street in memory of the fallen soldiers of the Da Vinci Wolves battalion. The artist depicts the fallen soldiers of the Honour Company, Oleksiy Naida (Tykhyi) and Yevhen Svitlychnyi (Zheka). Oleksiy Naida was a master of sports of Ukraine in boxing, a Ukrainian free-fight champion and an IT developer. Yevhen Svitlychnyi was a master of sports and a Ukrainian free-fight champion, and he starred in Oleg Sentsov’s film Rhino.

Zhytomyr oblast

A security meeting was held at the Zhytomyr Regional State Administration under the chairmanship of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko. The participants discussed measures to strengthen the protection and defence of the state border, law enforcement in the border areas and the region as a whole, the procedure for dealing with possible blackouts, security in educational institutions, critical and social infrastructure, and fire safety concidering the constant shelling by the russians.

Sumy oblast

The regional military administration reported that at night and in the morning russians fired twice at the border areas of Sumy oblast. 11 explosions were recorded: 3 artillery strikes were carried out by the russian military against Bilopillia community and 8 mines were dropped on the territory of Seredyna-Buda community.

According to RMA, over the previous day, 13 July, 40 attacks were recorded in Sumy oblast. A total of 90 explosions from various types of weapons were recorded. 11 border communities were attacked.

The enemy dropped explosive devices from a UAV on Khotyn community (6 explosions), and launched 6 NAR-type missiles from two helicopters (6 explosions).

The Krasnopilska community was attacked by two FPV drones (2 explosions), an artillery strike (3 explosions) and the dropping of explosive devices from a UAV (6 explosions).

In Miropillia community, FPV drone strikes (6 explosions), mortar shelling (2 explosions) and MLRS (7 explosions) were recorded.

Esman community was hit by mortars (2 explosions) and FPV drone strikes (8 explosions).

Velyka Pysarivka community was hit by FPV drones (4 explosions), 10 NAR-type missiles were launched from a helicopter (10 explosions), explosive devices were dropped from a UAV (2 explosions), and mortar shelling (2 explosions).

The russian military dropped 13 mines on Shalyhyne community.

FPV drones struck Vorozhba community (2 explosions), Hlukhiv community (1 explosion) and Seredina-Budsk community (2 explosions).

The russians dropped 2 mines on Yunakivka community and attacked it with FPV drones (2 explosions).

The russian army dropped explosive devices from a UAV on Bilopillia community (2 explosions).

The regional police informed that over the past day, the russian army shelled 23 settlements in Sumy oblast. As a result of the shelling, three private residential buildings were damaged, as well as the premises of an inactive post office.

The ‘North’ military command commented that on 13 July, a private house in Velyka Rybitsa village was damaged by russian shelling. Private houses were also damaged in Zapsillia and Miropillia. In Sukhodil of Shostka community, a building of a municipal institution was damaged.  

Chernihiv oblast

The SBGS reported that over the past day, russian troops attacked Semenivka community with FPV drones, mortars and cannon artillery. A total of 20 explosions were recorded.

Two medics from Chernihiv oblast were nominated for the public award for professionalism and mercy the Order of St Panteleimon, and three more received certificates of honour. The ceremony took place on 12 July at St Catherine’s Cathedral in Chernihiv. The military surgeon Taras Voitkiv, who is currently serving with the 1st Siverskaya Tank Brigade and has been involved in the fighting since 2018 became the winner in the Military Medics category. After the start of the full-scale invasion, the man provided medical care around the clock at the regional hospital, and when Chernihiv was unblocked, he joined the Armed Forces.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Oblast Council, reports that at night, defenders shot down an enemy missile and a reconnaissance drone over the region. At night, the occupiers also attacked Nikopol region. The regional centre was attacked with kamikaze drones, and Myrove community was hit with Grad multiple rocket launchers. There were several fires, 5 private houses, 7 outbuildings, an agricultural company, a petrol station, an unused building and power lines were damaged. In the morning, the occupiers again shelled Nikopol with kamikaze drones and artillery. A rocket attack caused a fire in Dnipro region.

The enemy sent a UAV to Kryvyi Rih, and the grass caught fire. A 67-year-old woman was injured. Two private houses were damaged in the area.

There were two injured in Nikopol. A 69-year-old woman stepped on a torn power line as a result of hostile shelling. She was hospitalised in serious condition. A 70-year-old man was also wounded, he is also in hospital in moderate condition. During the day, the enemy fired on the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske and Marhanets communities. They attacked with artillery and kamikaze drones. There were several fires, an agricultural company, an industrial enterprise, 13 private houses and outbuildings were damaged. A car and 2 garages were destroyed, 18 more garages, 23 cars and 2 minibuses, and power lines were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

In Vinnytsia, the victims of the rocket attack on 14 July 2022 were honoured at a memorial stele. Relatives and friends of the victims gathered in the square. Two years ago, on this day, 29 people were killed in the area due to an attack by russian troops. 

Kirovohrad oblast

Kropyvnytskyi RMA reports that in Kropyvnytskyi, the families of fallen soldiers from Kirovohrad oblast received state awards, which were awarded posthumously to the defenders. 

A charity toy fair in Oleksandria raised more than UAH 4,000 for the Okhmatdyt, which was shelled by russia.

Poltava oblast

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Iryna and Dmytro Matiushenko have been making chevrons for the military in their own studio. Over this time, they have made up to 10,000 pieces. About 350 chevrons were donated to the military history museum at Higher Vocational School No. 7.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 13 July, russians launched 373 attacks on 11 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. They attacked Yurkovka, Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne, Robotyne, Novodanylivka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka with 150 UAVs of various modifications. There were 9 reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. 1 person was injured.

The occupying authorities of Zaporizhzhia oblast are “asking” residents to hand over their hunting rifles for “hunting Ukrainian drones”. This information appeared on propaganda Telegram channels. The occupiers claim that this weapon has been very effective in combating Ukrainian UAVs. They call on people to “voluntarily” surrender their weapons. This may indicate a shortage of weapons among the occupiers and supply disruptions. It is possible that the occupiers are simply trying to disarm  people.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, on 13 July, at 9:15pm and 9:47pm, russians attacked Ochakiv, Ochakiv community by artillery. As a result, a residential building, a power line and an internet network were damaged. Measures are being taken to eliminate the consequences. There were no casualties reported.

State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that an explosion of an unknown object occurred in Myrne village, injuring a resident. The incident happened during fieldwork. A man was hospitalised with mine-explosive trauma.

Odesa oblast

According to the Southern Defence Forces, russian occupation forces continue to conduct targeted attacks and reconnaissance operations in the southern oblasts. On 13 July, Ukrainian air defence shot down 2 enemy Orlan-10 reconnaissance drones. russian forces attacked Odesa by a ballistic missile, likely an Iskander-M, from the temporarily occupied Crimea. The missile strike caused dry grass to catch fire in an open area. The recreational and coastal zones were again under enemy fire. There were no casualties reported.

Ukrainian Navy informed that russian invaders continue to patrol the seas. Enemy fleet presence persists in the Azov and Mediterranean seas, but there are currently no ships in the Black Sea. However, the occupiers can launch Kalibr missiles from military ports.

The Come Back Alive Foundation and Nova Poshta purchased 50 new pickups for Ukrainian Air Force. The vehicles were evenly distributed between the South and East Air Commands. In particular, 14 vehicles from this batch were received by 4 military units from Odesa. The pickups will be used for technical support of air defence systems and complexes, including the escort of Western-made anti-aircraft missile systems.

Kherson oblast

On 13 July, the russian military shelled residential area on the right bank of Kherson oblast by MLRS and artillery. The shelling killed 5 civilians and injured 9, including a teenage girl.

On 14 July, Roman Mrochko, Head of Kherson CMA reported that Kherson City Territorial Community was under russian occupation forces attack 12 times. There were hits in Kherson, Antonivka, Blahovishchenske, Pryozerne and Komyshany. In particular, 25 private houses and 2 high-rise buildings, an educational institution, an administrative building, a gas pipeline section, a medical facility, 2 garages and 4 civilian cars were damaged.

On 13 July, around 7:30pm, the russian military shelled Chornobaivka in Kherson oblast. A 16-year-old girl was injured in a targeted strike on a house. She was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The russian military attacked a civilian in Novovorontsovka by a drone. A 41-year-old man was injured and taken to the hospital in moderate condition.

Yurii Sobolevskyi, 1st Deputy Head of Kherson Regional Council said that occupying forces have attacked almost every medical facility in Kherson. Since the de-occupation of the city, the Kherson Regional Clinical Hospital has been shelled more than 20 times. Medical workers have been injured in these attacks.

In Kherson oblast, 25 fires broke out due to new russian shelling. Houses, farm buildings, garages and other facilities caught fire. Also, there were 9 fires in ecosystems. After ammunition hit the residential sector in Kherson oblast, private houses, farm buildings, an apartment building and a garage were burning. The enemy often carried out repeated shelling, hindering the work of rescuers. Despite all the threats, the fires were extinguished.

Center for National Resistance reported that russians have banned residents from entering the 15-kilometer zone along the Dnipro River on temporarily occupied territories of Kherson oblast. The corresponding order was published in the name of Volodymyr Saldo, who acts as the local “governor”. The order comes into “force” from 1 August in Kakhovka region and from 1 September along the entire left bank of Kherson oblast. According to this order, entry is allowed only with a special permit from the occupiers.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

In Volyn oblast, the Swedish Aid Center camp has been operating for the second year in its current format. Children from the frontline areas of the country, as well as from low-income families, rest here. Over 1,500 children are planned to be rehabilitated in the camp this year.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 25 packages with necessary things for children under 1 year old and 50 bags with grocery sets. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (2,200 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help eV and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council reported that 30 children went to the city of Jelgava (Latvia) for rehabilitation. 2 weeks of excursions and interesting events await them.

Lviv oblast

10 families from Kherson oblast, who lost their homes due to russian aggression, received shelter in a new modular town near Lviv, which was built for them. The construction of the town has continued since 2022. It was created on the territory of the UGCC, where a shelter for IDPs has been operating since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

Mental Health Marathon School And Community Are Sensitive To Mental Health was held in Lviv oblast: why it is important for communities. About 1,000 participants took part in the Marathon, included, psychologists, school principals and teachers, social workers, medics and families of military personnel. They discussed how to create the conditions under which schools become real fortresses of mental resilience, and residents of communities know where to turn if inquiries arise in the field of mental health.

A memorial plaque to Ihor Mysiak, fallen defender was installed on the facade of Bylytskyi Gymnasium, Biskovytsk community, Sambir region. The soldier was killed on 1 April, 2023.

Yaroslav Pankiv, assistant rifleman in the 2nd Rifle Division from Strii region, was awarded with the For Courage Order. The serviceman was killed on 12 June, 2023.

Rivne oblast

In Rivne oblast, veterans will receive 36 apartments from the state. The government has allocated UAH 80.2m for the purchase of housing for veterans and families of fallen defenders from the oblast. The funds will be deposited into special accounts of recipients opened at Oschadbank. After that, veterans or relatives of the deceased will be able to choose housing independently. It can be both on the secondary market and on the primary, provided that the building is put into operation.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil City Council sent 1,700 sets of summer uniforms for soldiers of the 105th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. The uniforms are sewn from materials that are certified and meet all the requirements of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

An evacuation vehicle was sent to the military formations serving on the contact line thanks to the Council of Volunteers at the RMA, the MidGard CF and the Support of Ukraine NGO.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA reported that Krasnoilsk community sent a power bank worth UAH 17.400 to the Military Unit A4917.

Mamalyhiv community allocated UAH 54.500 to the Military Unit A2495 to purchase 33 cans of paint thanks to the community budget.
