It has been the 806th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6pm:   

During the day of 9 May, there were 76x tactical engagements. 

The enemy launched a total of 5x missiles and 72x air strikes, 74x MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have wounded civilians. Residential apartment blocks and private houses, as well as other civil infrastructure got destroyed and damaged.

Volyn and Polissia axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group. 

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the russian areas bordering Ukraine. The enemy conducts subversion, continues shelling of Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the concentration of mining operations along the state border of Ukraine. The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Kostiantynivka (Sumy oblast). More than 10x settlements, including Khrinivka (Chernihiv oblast), Myropillia (Sumy oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Kupiansk and Lyman axes: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 7x attacks in the vicinities of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast), Stelmakhivka (Luhansk oblast), where the enemy, using air attacks, attempted to improve its tactical position. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10x settlements, including Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Berestove (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3x attacks in the vicinities of Novosadove, Torske (Donetsk oblast) and in the area of the Serebrianka forestry (Luhansk oblast). The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Lyman (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Nevske (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Yampolivka, Torske (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 16x attacks in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Verkhnokamianske, Ivanivske, Novyi, Stupochky, Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, using air strikes, attempted to improve its tactical position. The adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Druzhba, Spirne (Donetsk oblast). More than 10x settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, Chasiv Yar (Donetsk oblast).

Avdiivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 20x attacks in the vicinities of Kalynove, Novooleksandrivka, Novoselivka Persha, Umanske, Yasnobrodivka, Netailove (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, with air support, made attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions. The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 20x settlements, including Novooleksandrivka, Sokil, Novopokrovske, Umanske (Donetsk oblast).

Novopavlivka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Kostiantynivka, Vodiane and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), where the invaders made 6x attempts to breach Ukrainian defence. The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Bohoiavlenka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Heorhiivka (Donetsk oblast).

Orikhiv axis: the enemy launched 16x assaults on positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast) and Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 20x settlements, including Bilohiria, Robotyne, Kamianske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), were under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.

Kherson axis: the enemy does not abandon its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. During the day of 9 May, the invaders executed 2x unsuccessful assaults on positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Krynky (Kherson oblast). The occupiers fired artillery and mortars at around 20 settlements, including Krynky, Tyahynka, Kachkarivka, Kizomys, Stanislav (Kherson oblast).

During the day of 9 May, the Ukrainian Air Force and Missile Forces launched strikes on 1x air defence system, 17x concentrations of troops of the russian invaders.

The interlocutor of the Ukrainska Pravda in SBU reported that the Ukrainian long-range drone of the Security Service of Ukraine has set a historical record by covering a distance of 1,500km. It is also known that this drone hit the Hazprom Neftokhim Salavat refinery in the russian republic of Bashkortostan.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed laws extending the martial law and extending the term of general mobilisation. This is reported in the cards of bills 3685-IX and 3684-IX. This is the 11th extension of martial law and mobilisation since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed that more than 25,000 couples have applied for marriage on the Diia portal. Most applications were recorded in Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa oblasts.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

The General Staff reported that towards Kupiansk, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 7 russian attacks near Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Berestove and Stelmakhivka. About 10 settlements suffered artillery and mortar attacks, including Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Berestove.

Ruslan Vrahov, Head of one of the hospitals, said that doctors managed to save the legs of the boys who were injured as a result of a russian attack in Saltivskyi district of the city on 8 May. He noted that one of the boys had a head injury and shrapnel damage to his lungs, and two boys had open fractures of the hip and ankle. All the limbs have now been restored, external fixation devices have been fitted, and we hope to be able to save the legs of both guys. All the boys also had massive soft tissue injuries. Their condition is stable and there is no threat to their lives.

Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of Derhachi community, reported about the shelling by a Lancet at 2 pm.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office said that russia attacked Kupiansk at around 10:15 am. A 51-year-old man injured in the shelling of Kupiansk died in hospital. A 48-year-old woman was injured.

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community, reported that russian drones attacked Ivashky village around 6:45am.

Yesterday about 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks: Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Berestove and others. Bilyi Kolodiaz, Staryi Saltiv and Lukianets were hit by airstrikes.

At 1:30pm, russians shelled Kharkiv. The shelling damaged a school building and apartment buildings on the territory of an educational institution. 7 people were injured, including 4 children: a 15-year-old boy is in intensive care, in critical condition, undergoing surgical treatment of his wounds; a 14-year-old boy – stably critical condition, transferred from the operating theatre to intensive care: a 14-year-old patient is in intensive care, the fragments have been removed, surgery performed and doctors are trying to save the limb; an 8-year-old girl received a superficial injury, her condition is moderate. She was discharged for outpatient treatment.

At 2:45pm, russians shelled Bilyi Kolodiaz village, Chuhuiv region. 4 private houses, a hospital and a car were damaged as a result of the shelling by UMPD D-30.

113 children with their families were evacuated from certain settlements of Bohodukhiv, Izium and Kharkiv regions: Zolochiv community – 15; Borova community – 4; Derhachi community – 64; Lyptsi community – 30.

Yesterday Ukrainian troops repelled 16 attacks towards Kupiansk, including near Petropavlivka, Synkivka, Ivanivka and Berestove.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 30.24 hectares of mines and destroyed 1,045 explosive ordnance.

Donetsk oblast

The General Staff of the Armed Forces reported in a morning briefing that Ukrainian troops repelled 128 russian attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. The russian army stormed the Defence Forces of Ukraine 45 times towards Avdiivka. The Ukrainian army repelled 26 attacks towards Bakhmut.

Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia operational-strategic military group, reported that russian troops broke through to Krasnohorivka and entrenched residence on the territory of a refractory plant, but Ukrainian troops blocked the invaders at the enterprise. He noted that the enemy is currently cut off from ammunition supply. The fighting continues. From time to time, the enemy enters Krasnohorivka with small assault groups, but the russian military are destroyed by the Defence Forces. In general, the russian army is constantly storming this section of Avdiivka front from Krasnohorivka to Ocheretyne, intensively attacking Nevelske, Pervomaiske and Netailove.

The National Resistance Centre said that in the temporarily occupied Mariupol, russians are forming a register of people who are not allowed to live in the city because of fear of the return of “agents of the Defence Forces”.

The press service of Donetsk police reported that yesterday the oblast suffered 1870 hostile attacks, with three civilians injured. The attacks were recorded in 9 settlements: Hirnyk, Zalizne, Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove cities, Hostre, Petrivka settlements, Zoria, Rai-Oleksandrivka and Stara Mykolaivka villages. 31 civilian objects were damaged, including 23 residential buildings, administrative buildings, cars, power lines and a gas pipeline.

Two people were injured in Krasnohorivka and one in Petrivka as a result of artillery shelling.

Also russia dropped three KAB-250 guided missiles on Stara Mykolaivka and artillery was also used. 16 private houses, cars, power lines and a gas pipeline were damaged.

The russian army shelled Rai-Oleksandrivka by Uragan MRLs, damaging a private house and a car.

At night russian troops attacked Lyman and the type of weapon is being established. According to preliminary reports, no people were injured. Three apartment buildings, 19 private houses, social infrastructure facilities, cars and a gas pipeline were destroyed.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, russians have resumed assaults in Bilohorivka. The enemy is attacking there constantly, but there was no ground activity the day before yesterday. The enemy also continued to put pressure near Stelmakhivka, Makiivka, Nevske, Novoliubivka and Tverdokhlibove. Fighting continues in Serebrianka forest. 27 russian UAVs attempted to preform missions near Nevske and Kuzemivka.

The invaders shelled the frontline Nevske, Kuzemivka and Stelmakhivka by artillery and mortars. They used mortars and a multiple rocket launcher system near Makiivka.

The oil depot in Luhansk burned down only yesterday, and the city and its surroundings are already facing fuel shortages. The occupation authorities promise that everything will be fine later, but the situation at the petrol stations is critical. There is a logistical problem with the delivery of refined products in the so-called “lot”. The existing stocks are given to the russian military.

In Alchevsk alone, more than 300 new graves of local soldiers from russian army units have been found. A significant number of mobilised men are considered missing. This data in the media is not disclosed.

Oleksandr Striuk, Head of the CMW, informed that anyone who has a job in occupied Sievierodonetsk must accept all invitations to attend public events. The occupation authorities are unable or unwilling to fight the fires around the city.

Despite the difficult security conditions, people remain living in the de-occupied villages of the community. Mykhailo Khutorianskyi, Head of Krasnorichensk Civil-Military Administration, said that 55 people currently live there. The locals are constantly encouraged to evacuate. Recently, a survey was conducted to find out where the locals would go in case of an escalation at the front. They are regularly provided with food, medicine, hygiene products, etc. If they need medical care, they are helped to get to the nearest hospitals. There is not a single fully surviving house left in these villages as russians shell them daily. More than 400 families have lost their homes.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The number of properties in Kyiv oblast damaged as a result of the russian attack on 8 May  has increased. According to updated RMA data, these are 19 private houses in two regions. Moreover, several apartments in an apartment building were damaged. The debris also affected a kindergarten, 7 cars, several non-residential buildings and power lines. Electricity companies have restored electrical power to all consumers who had no access to electricity due to the night attack.

Two oblast residents injured in the russian attack on 8 May were taken to hospital with multiple limb injuries and shrapnel wounds. They are currently receiving all necessary medical care. The man is being treated in the trauma department, the woman has been surgically repaired and is in the intensive care unit.

The Second International Summit of Cities and Regions is taking place in Kyiv. The event was attended by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, representatives of the Government, communities and representatives of 18 countries. The event was held under the slogan “As strong as united”. The participants discussed a number of topics, including the restoration and development of communities and territories, Ukraine’s European integration, work with internally displaced persons, and rehabilitation of war victims.

President of the European Parliament Roberta Mecola arrived in Kyiv. She met with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. They discussed the situation at the front, defence support, plans of the russian occupiers, Ukraine’s European integration, and the Global Peace Summit.

Federal Minister for Development and Economic Cooperation of Germany Svenja Schulze arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. It is noted that preparation for the conference on Ukraine’s recovery, which will be held in Berlin on 11 and 12 June, is the main topic of the visit. A special emphasis during the meetings in the capital will be, particularly, Germany’s assistance in strengthening the Ukrainian energy grid and training of skilled workers.

According to Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, the Mayor of Brussels handed over the electronic warfare system and Starlink to the soldiers of the Svoboda battalion of the 4th Rubizh operational brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine, who are on rotation in Kyiv and are recovering from their injuries. He also stated that the soldiers received 50 FPV drones as charitable aid from Kyiv.

Villega Head Vadym Tokar informed that a new shelter has been set up in Makariv. This civil defence shelter will create conditions that exclude exposure to ionising radiation in case of radiation contamination of the area, as well as in cases of other means of destruction means.

In Kyiv, on 8 May, Ukrposhta presented a stamp dedicated to the cleansing of Black Sea from russian occupants – “russian military fleet – to the bottom!”. The stamp depicts those russian ships that were destroyed or damaged by the Armed Forces, Navy, Defence Intelligence and SSU.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Main Directorate of the National Police in Zhytomyr oblast reported that a bomb squad of Zhytomyr National Police is demining the de-occupied part of Kharkiv oblast as part of a consolidated unit. Over the past month they have destroyed more than a hundred pieces of ammunition left by the russian army, including unexploded cluster shells from Smerch and Uragan multiple rocket launchers, anti-tank mines and large-calibre artillery shells.

According to RMA, through fruitful cooperation with UNICEF, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the condition of shelters in schools and hospitals in Zhytomyr oblast has improved significantly. A network of modern STEAM laboratories, digital educational centres, and children’s spaces called “Spilno” has also been created. This cooperation has resulted in the first training and resource centre in Ukraine, created on the basis of the Medical Institute. 

Currently, within the framework of joint projects with UNICEF, 6 youth centres are being actively created in the oblast communities. By the end of June, the necessary reconstruction of the premises and the purchase of all the necessary equipment should be completed.

Zhytomyr rescuers received two vehicles for rapid emergency response. The aid was donated by the People’s Higher School “VOVCHOK” and the Swiss company Pajass Internatio. One of the vehicles will be used for demining the territories where military operations took place, and the second vehicle will be transferred to one of the fire and rescue units of the oblast.

Sumy oblast

According to the prosecutor’s office, at around 14:15, the russian army attacked Bilopillya with two guided aerial bombs. The attack damaged apartment blocks and private houses. Yuriy Zarko, head of Bilopillia community, said that one of the bombs fell in a densely populated area of the town. Another CAB did not explode.

At night and in the morning of 9 May, russians fired Sumy oblast border settlements 6 times. A total of 46 attacks were recorded using mortars, artillery and multiple rocket launchers. Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Esman, Seredyna-Buda communities were shelled.

The RMA reported that over the past day, the russian military attacked Sumy oblast 36 times, with a total of 183 explosions recorded. 9 oblast communities were under enemy fire: Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Esman, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novhorodske. The enemy used mortars, artillery, MLRS, air strikes, FPV drones, RPG grenade launchers, and small arms to fire.

On 8 May, the russian military hit a school and a farm in the village of Shalyhyne, located 4 kilometres from the border with russia. According to the operational command ‘North’, russian troops launched an airstrike on the village with two guided bombs.

The National Police of Sumy oblast reported that as a result of Sumy oblast border communities shelling by the russian military on 8 May, three private households and school building were damaged, a former agricultural company building destroyed.

According to the RMA, there has been no increase in the number of russian military strike groups on the Sumy oblast border. However, to save lives, residents of the 5-10 km zone from the contact line are advised to evacuate to safe, prepared places in accordance with community evacuation plans. The instruction applies to Sumy, Okhtyrka, Konotop and Shostka districts.

On 8 May, residents of the border area were evacuated from Sumy district settlements located near the enemy border. The activities were carried out in cooperation with Sumy District State Administration, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society and rescuers.

As reported by the Department of Urban Development and Architecture of the Sumy RMA, In Sumy oblast 42 apartments and 15 houses were restored under the eRestoration programme. 1,921 oblast residents received compensation for damaged property. 

Chernihiv oblast

Over the past day, russian troops attacked Chernihiv oblast border communities 13 times. According to the State Border Guard Service, a total of 89 mortar and cannon artillery attacks were recorded. The Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk communities were under enemy fire.

On 8 May, foreign delegations that arrived in Ukraine as part of the Second International Summit of Cities and Regions visited the de-occupied territories of Kyiv and Chernihiv oblasts. The delegations witnessed not only the consequences of russian aggression, occupation and hostilities, but also how communities are recovering and living in the midst of war, including with the help of international partners.

Chernihivoblenerho reported that on 8 May, from 18:00 to 23:00, power limitation schedules were introduced for enterprises in Chernihiv oblast. A massive russian missile attack on energy infrastructure facilities in six regions of Ukraine on the night of 8 May was the reason for this. Residential consumers were not mentioned at this time.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the occupiers shelled Nikopol three times. They launched two kamikaze drones and fired from Grad MRLs. A private house in the town was damaged as a result of an enemy drone hit. According to the updated information, yesterday’s artillery shelling in Nikopol damaged 2 more private houses, 3 outbuildings and a power line.

Serhii Lysak, Head of RMA, reported that the occupiers shelled Nikopol region with artillery, Grad multiple rocket launchers and kamikaze drones from morning till evening. In total, there were more than two dozen attacks. 2 people were killed in Nikopol. A total of 8 people were injured. Among them are girls aged 15 and 16, who are in moderate condition. 8 high-rise buildings and 25 private houses were damaged. The roofs of two houses caught fire. There were also 16 outbuildings, greenhouses, almost 30 solar panels, power lines and gas pipelines damaged. A kindergarten, a fire station, a building of a charitable organisation, a bank, and shops were damaged. A dozen cars were smashed. Specifically, rescue vehicles and ambulances were damaged. The occupiers also terrorised Marhanets, Pokrovsk, Chervonohryhorivka and Myrove communities.

“EU Open Day”: 

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that Dnipropetovsk oblast was represented at the Festival of Regions and Cities. Representatives of Dnipropetrovsk oblast office in Brussels took part in an event organised by the European Committee of the Regions on the occasion of Europe Day. At the festival, they shared experiences of overcoming wartime challenges and presented the region as a potential partner for cooperation in rebuilding communities.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov reported that one of the combat brigades in Vinnytsia oblast received another batch of necessary supplies. The equipment included 300 FPV drones, 20 Mavic 3Ts, 20 thermal imagers, 20 Bandera Power charging stations and 10 spotlights.

The Municipal Guard also handed over a car to the defenders.

Kirovohrad oblast

A modular apartment building for IDPs was built in Kirovograd oblast. One house for 4 apartments has already been installed in Nove village of Kropyvnytskyi community, and another for 8 separate apartments will be built in Volodymyrivka village of Subottsi community. 

Poltava oblast

In Poltava oblast, a new head of the region’s recruitment and social support centre was introduced in Myrhorod region – Oleksandr Holubytskyi, who volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the start of the full-scale russian invasion.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 8 May, russian occupiers launched 367 strikes on Zaporizhzhia oblast. 10 settlements were under attack. The russian occupation forces carried out a massive missile attack on the regional capital, resulting in preliminary damage to 4 facilities across 4 regions, with residential buildings and cars of Zaporizhzhia residents affected.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that the russian strikes in Zaporizhzhia oblast continue unabated. During the night of 9 May, the enemy targeted Mahdalynivka, damaging civilians’ houses and injuring a 65-year-old woman. It is noteworthy that on the previous day, russian forces conducted 3 airstrikes on Veselianka in Zaporizhzhia oblast, resulting in injuries.

Mykolaiv oblast

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that on the night of 9 May, russian forces attacked Mykolaiv oblast by a drone. The strike partially destroyed a two-story building of a former cultural centre in Pervomaisk community. A fire broke out at the site, covering an area of 200 sq m. Emergency services promptly extinguished the fire. There were no casualties reported.

Based on the information provided by the press service of Mykolaiv RMA, at 2:47pm, the Air Force reported the missile movement from the Black Sea towards Mykolaiv oblast. By 2:55pm, monitoring channels reported that the missiles had been shot down over Mykolaiv oblast.

Odesa oblast

The Southern Defence Forces of Ukraine reported that on the night of 9 May, the russian military launched 2 waves of Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones from Cape Chauda in Crimea towards southern oblasts. Air defence forces destroyed 17 of them in the sky over Odesa oblast.

In Odesa, the Khymera (Chimera) unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate conducted the first training for civilians, which included basic physical training, weapon handling and tactical medicine. Military personnel currently have a break between combat missions, so they decided to conduct training for potential volunteers. The Khymera (Chimera) unit chief instructor, a serviceman with the call sign Israel, mentioned that there were many volunteers eager to undergo tactical training.

On 9 May, in Odesa, which has been subjected to numerous russian attacks in recent months, Katerynynska Street was officially renamed Evropeiska Street. Earlier, Katerynynska Square was renamed Evropeiska Square.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson RMA, on 8 May, the occupying forces shelled Oleksandrivka village in Stanislav community. As a result, a 74-year-old man was injured with a concussion, explosive and cranial injuries and shrapnel wounds to the legs and head.

Also, the russian military shelled Veletenske, Kizomys, Stanislav, Inzhenerne, Poniativka, Sadove, Antonivka, Bilozirka, Beryslav, Mykhailivka, Mykolaivka, Olhivka, Lvove and Kherson.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on the night of 9 May, the aggressor country’s troops dropped 2 guided aerial bombs on Beryslav in Kherson oblast, destroying the local school. He stated that there were no casualties reported.

Referring to the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, on the left bank of the Dnipro River in Kherson oblast, Ukrainian defenders repelled 4 enemy assaults during the past day. After suffering losses, the enemy retreated to their original positions.

From the occupied territory of Kherson oblast, 11 children have been successfully returned, including 2 orphaned girls aged 10 and 13 and 5 girls and 4 boys aged from 1 to 16 years old. Currently, the children are safe and receiving medical and psychological aid. The Head of Kherson RMA added that since the beginning of 2024, a total of 78 children have been returned from the occupied territory to the control of Ukraine.

Based on the information provided by Kherson RMA, nearly 7,000 hectares of land on the right bank of  Kherson oblast have been de-mined. From 1 to 8 May, 6,739.6 hectares of agricultural land, 183.3 hectares of other territories in the oblast, 2.9km of roads, 0.3km of power lines, and 730 objects were surveyed. In total, 40.2 potentially hazardous areas in the oblast have been surveyed and cleared. 172,592 explosive items have been removed, including 1,362 last week. Nearly 100 more sappers have been involved in demining the oblast.

Volyn oblast

According to Kovel City Council representatives of the 10th Mobile Border Guard Detachment of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine received a Starlink terminal, a DJI Mavis 3T quadcopter with a thermal imager, an EcoFlow charging station and 5 FPV drones from Volyn community.

Shatsk village council reported that UAH 70,000 were raised to purchase drones for the military.

Donors from Novovolynsk community continue to donate blood for the military and civilians. Last week, 8 donors were delivered to the transfusion unit in Volodymyr. Public Monitoring of Ukraine reported that 22 UAVs for the military have been purchased for UAH 2.8m of Volodymyr’s budgetary funds during 2 years of war.

According to Volyn RMA, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Order of the Golden Star to the fallen Hero of Ukraine relatives, a native of Sokil village, Lutsk region, Taras Chaika. In the first days of the russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the man went to war as a volunteer.

Zakarpattia oblast

Recruitment for Zakarpattia Territorial Defence continues in Zakarpattia, which began in April this year. According to Oleksii Liubetskyi, the unit is looking for various positionsʼ candidates and is inviting people to join voluntarily, looking for adequate applicants first.

As part of Ukraine is a Country of Big Hearts Marathon to help the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mukachevo community’s school students raised funds to support the needs of our defenders. 11 FPV drones are ready to be sent to 2 military units in Sumy and Zaporizhzhia where Mukachevo soldiers serve.

A soldier of the 128th Separate Brigade visited Svaliava school No. 1. Valerii Bobal returned to the front line with a piece of Svaliava region, which was embodied in the heartfelt drawings of the school students.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Nine-year-old Maksym Kosyk from Ivano-Frankivsk, the youngest volunteer of Halychyna Civil Initiative, raised UAH 50,000 for drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The boy dreamt of raising UAH 540,00 for 3 Mavic 3Ts, but started with a smaller goal. This is not the first time Maksym has raised money for the Armed Forces. In 2023, he gave the volunteers UAH 13,700 for drones for the military as a birthday present.

Lviv oblast

The soldiers of the 68th Separate Hunting Brigade named after Oleksa Dovbush received 6 drones for the warriors. The drones were purchased thanks to regular donations from the staff of Chervonohrad Regional Administration, entrepreneurs who joined the fundraising and with The Help to Win charity organisation help.

Lviv doctors removed an 8mm long mine fragment from 9-year-old Mykhailo’s brain. The boy received a shrapnel wound during a mortar attack in Kherson and lost the ability to move the left side of his body. According to the Press Service of St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital the operation was successful and now the child will undergo long-term rehabilitation. 

Rivne oblast

More than UAH 100,000 was raised for the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a charity auction at the regional children’s hospital. The staff of the medical enterprise took part in the Together to Victory campaign. They fought for various lots, including paintings by hospital staff, souvenir cups, T-shirts, sweatshirts with patriotic prints and flags. Books by famous Rivne soldiers were also raffled off: “The Story of a Stubborn Man by Oleksandr Budko (“Teren”) signed by the author and Poems from the Loophole by the fallen soldier Maksym Kryvtsov (“Dali”). The money was donated to Rivne_redblack community and will be used to purchase a car for a resident of Rivne who fights in the Offensive Guard.

Thanks to Rivne oblast participation in the Family for Every Child UNICEF project, it is planned to significantly increase the number of families with family patronage. Information training will be held for all communities in May this year. Specialists will be able to improve their knowledge of the service and learn new methods of searching for candidates. Currently, there are 8 foster families for children in difficult life circumstances in the oblast. 

Ternopil oblast

In Velyka Ilovytsia village, Sumy community consecrated a symbolic alley in memory of fallen fellow defenders Serhii Hryshchuk and Volodymyr Omelchuk. According to Shumsk community, the attendees prayed together for the fallen heroes’ souls to repose.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Oleksandr Symchyshyn, City Mayor announced that Khmelnytskyi community donated drones with thermal imagers worth UAH 2.5m to the military. 

There is a scholarship program for military and veterans in Khmelnytskyi oblast. The Regional Council reported that Kyiv School of Public Administration named after Serhii Nyzhnii invites military and veterans to become participants in the scholarship program The goal of the Lost Generation scholarship program is to enable young defenders with combat experience to acquire new knowledge and skills for professional growth and personal effectiveness.

Defenders Oleksandr Polishchuk and Oleh Tyshchuk from Khmelnytskyi oblast were sent to their last earthly journey.  The fallen defenders of Ukraine were honoured today, 9 May, in Antoniny and Krupets communities. 

Khmelnytskyi community also paid tribute to the Hero of the russo-Ukrainian War Myroslav Marchuk. 

Chernivtsi oblast

More than 100 buildings are planned to be converted into IDP housing in Bukovyna. As of April 2024, 73 temporary accommodation facilities have been set up in Chernivtsi oblast, with 2,746 IDPs living there and 543 beds remaining vacant.

Sokyriany City Council reported on the website that in the community, memorial plaques were unveiled to soldiers Viktor Moskuchuk, Ihor Prepelytsia, Andrii Savchuk, Vasyl Pizhivskyi and Edhar Hryhorian who died in the war. The fallen soldiers were natives of the village of Hvizdivtsi.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

EU ambassadors approved the provision of excess profits to Ukraine from the frozen assets of the russian federation. The funds will be used to support reconstruction of Ukraine and its military defence against russian aggression. 

Britain will contribute another €23m to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund.

Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, and Svenja Schulze, Minister of Development and Economic Cooperation of Germany, arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit. It is noted that the main topic of the visit is preparations for the conference on the recovery of Ukraine, which will be held in Berlin on 11 and 12 June. The Minister stressed that they plan to discuss the expansion of the Ukrainian power grid with Germany’s assistance and the training of qualified personnel.

Sweden allocates €28m for military support to Ukraine. According to the official website of the country’s government, €18m will be transferred to three coalitions within the framework of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine, of which Sweden is a member: €5m for the Demining Coalition, €3m for the Maritime Security Coalition and €10m for the Drone Coalition. Another €10m will be transferred to the NATO fund for Ukraine.
