It has been the 1530  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 2 May, there were 116 combat engagements. The enemy launched 47 airstrikes—dropping 151 guided aerial bombs. Additionally, they deployed 5,360 kamikaze drones for strikes and carried out 2,266 attacks on settlements and the positions of our troops.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy today carried out 82 strikes on the positions of our troops and settlements, two of which involved MLRS. Two enemy assault operations were recorded.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy attacked the positions of our units five times in the vicinity of Starytsia and in the direction of Lyman, Izbytske, and Okhrimivka.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked once in the direction of Novoplatonivka.

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian soldiers repelled five assaults by the occupiers in the direction of Drobysheve and Lyman.

Towards Sloviansk, the enemy attacked twice in the vicinity of Zakitne and in the direction of Rai-Oleksandrivka.

Towards Kramatorsk, the occupiers attacked twice in the direction of Malynivka and in the vicinity of Bondarne.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the occupiers today conducted 16 assaults on our defenders’ positions in the vicinity of Kostiantynivka, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Rusyn Yar, Sofiivka, and in the direction of Zolotoi Kolodiaz. Three attacks are ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy carried out 24 attacks. The occupiers attempted to advance toward the settlements of Bilytske, Nove Shakhove, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Udachne, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Muravka, and Molodetske.

According to preliminary estimates, 54 occupiers were liquidated and 24 were wounded in this sector today; 11 units of automotive equipment and an enemy artillery system were destroyed. Additionally, five units of automotive equipment, 90 enemy shelters, and three artillery systems were damaged. 239 UAVs of various types were destroyed or suppressed.

Towards Oleksandrivka, the occupiers attacked four times in the direction of Oleksandrohrad, Zlahoda, and in the vicinity of Ternove.

Towards Huliaypole, 14 attacks by the occupiers were recorded in the vicinity of Dobropillia, Zaliznychne, Sviatopetrivka, Staroukrainka, Charivne, Hirke, Tsvitkove, Myrne, and Varvarivka. One of these attacks is ongoing.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy attacked twice in the vicinity of Stepove and Prymorske.

Towards Kherson, the enemy conducted three attacks in the direction of Antonivka.

In other directions, there have been no significant changes in the situation.

 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

 

Ukrainian forces struck control points, a russian drone warehouse, and a repair base in the temporarily occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, according to the General Staff of the AFU.

Kharkiv oblast

Front Line

  • Towards Southern Sloboda, Russian troops attempted to improve their tactical position four times in the vicinity of Lyman, Starytsia, Izbytske, and Okhrimivka; as of 16:03, one engagement was ongoing, reported the General Staff of the AFU. No active operations by the Russian army were recorded towards Kupiansk.
  • Over the past day, 138 combat engagements were recorded at the front.
  • Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy eight times stormed the positions of the Defense Forces in the vicinity of Starytsia, Izbytske, Krasne Pershe, Mala Vovcha, and Fyholivka.
  • Towards Kupiansk, the Russian army attacked twice in the vicinity of Petropavlivka.

Shelling

Russian troops attacked the Balakliia community in Kharkiv oblast for the second time today—the Naftovykiv settlement came under fire. A private property and infrastructure were damaged, a fire broke out, and there are wounded, reported the head of the Balakliia City Military Administration, Vitalii Karabanov.

In the afternoon of 2 May, Russian drones attacked Kharkiv. The Shevchenkivskyi, Kholodnohirskyi, Osnovianskyi, Kyivskyi, and Novobavarskyi districts of the city were hit. Four gas stations and an apartment building were damaged, and six people were injured, according to Mayor Ihor Terekhov. According to him, a 62-year-old man was hospitalized with blast injuries, while five others suffered an acute stress reaction.

Russian troops launched strikes on educational institutions in the Bohodukhiv community, reported Bohodukhiv Mayor Volodymyr Bielii.

In Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, an unexploded Shahed was discovered in an office building following a night attack, reported Mayor Ihor Terekhov. Additionally, in the same district, a drone struck the 12th floor of a residential building.

As a result of a Russian UAV hitting a high-rise building in Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, a 23-year-old man was injured, and two other people suffered an acute stress reaction, reported the head of Kharkiv RMA, Oleh Syniehubov.

In Vasyshcheve of the Kharkiv region, six people, including a 16-year-old teenager, were injured on the night of 2 May following a Russian UAV attack, according to the Kharkiv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office. Residential buildings, outbuildings, and cars were damaged.

Over the past day, Kharkiv and 27 settlements in the oblast were subjected to enemy strikes. As a result of the shelling, 19 people were injured, including a child, according to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration (RMA).

  • In Kharkiv, two men aged 23 and 25 and a 77-year-old woman were injured.
  • In Vasyshcheve of the Bezliudivka community, four women, a man, and a 16-year-old boy sustained wounds.
  • In Bohodukhiv, seven men aged 33 to 60 and a 67-year-old woman were injured.
  • Injuries were also reported in Pechenihy and Shipuvate.

Russian troops attacked the Shevchenkivskyi and Slobidskyi districts of Kharkiv with drones. Over the course of the day, the Russian army deployed MLRS, 10 “Geran-2” UAVs, one “Lancet” UAV, 20 “Molniia” UAVs, eight FPV drones, and 65 drones of an unidentified type across Kharkiv oblast.

As a result of the strikes, civilian infrastructure objects in Kharkiv, as well as in the Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Izium, Kharkiv, and Chuhuiv regions, were damaged or destroyed. Specifically, residential buildings, educational and medical institutions, civilian enterprises, gas stations, power grids, railway infrastructure, and cars were damaged.

  • In Staryi Saltiv, a Russian FPV drone hit an official police vehicle; the car was damaged, but no one was injured.
  • In Skovorodynivka, Molniia UAVs struck an agricultural enterprise, damaging warehouse and production facilities; there were no casualties.
  • On the night of 2 May, Russian troops attacked Zolochiv with six drones. An educational institution, an apartment building, garages, a decommissioned gas station, the boiler room of a youth sports school, and the road surface of the central square were damaged.

The intensity of strikes on Zolochiv community has increased; approximately one thousand people have left the community over the past month. More than 300 residents remain in the zones of forced and mandatory evacuation.

 

Donetsk oblast

Towards Lyman, Russian troops attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 13 times near Druzheliubivka, Drobysheve, Stavky, Ozerne, and Lyman; the Russian army conducted another 27 assaults towards Pokrovsk, according to the General Staff of the AFU.

In Kostiantynivka, Ukrainian servicemen are conducting counter-sabotage measures as the Russian army attempts to infiltrate with infantry and establish positions on the outskirts of the city, reported the Commander-in-Chief of the AFU, Oleksandr Syrskyi. According to him, Russian troops have also increased the number of assaults towards Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkivka, and Kostiantynivka.

Towards Pokrovsk, Russian troops are trying to push Ukrainian units out of the northern part of Pokrovsk and execute a maneuver from Hryshyne to encircle the city; meanwhile, the Defense Forces are inflicting significant losses on the enemy, reported the 7th Air Assault Forces Corps.

Fighters of the Donbas battalion evacuated a wounded serviceman from the Chasiv Yar area using a ground robotic complex, the unit reported.

In the morning, Russian troops dropped a FAB-250 aerial bomb on Sloviansk; an outbuilding was damaged in the city, reported the head of the Sloviansk City Military Administration, Vadym Liakh.

On 1 May, police recorded 1,191 strikes by the Russian army along the front line and the residential sector of Donetsk oblast. Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Sloviansk, Maidan, Mykilske, and Tetianivka were under fire. 12 civilian objects were damaged, including five residential buildings, according to the Donetsk Oblast Police.

  • In Druzhkivka, a civilian was wounded, and two apartment buildings and one private house were damaged as a result of a strike by four drones.
  • Sloviansk suffered three attacks; a private house, an administrative building, a garage, and an outbuilding were damaged.
  • In Kramatorsk, an administrative building and a car were damaged.
  • In Mykilske, a non-residential building was damaged, and in Tetianivka, a private house was affected.

In the DPR, an Azov serviceman who was taken into russian captivity during the defense of Mariupol in 2022 has been “sentenced” to 22 years in a penal colony, according to the City Council. The occupiers accused the captive defender of the city of the alleged murder of a “civilian for a pro-Russian position.”

Volunteers evacuated a green-colored dog named Hala Green from Druzhkivka. The animal was taken to Kramatorsk for sterilization and treatment, after which a permanent home will be sought for her, reported the charitable organization “12 Vartovykh.” The dog was found by a volunteer from Druzhkivka at a food coloring warehouse, where she likely became stained while searching for food.

Luhansk oblast

Over the past day, russian troops stormed the positions of the Defense Forces 13 times towards Lyman; battles took place in the vicinity of five settlements, reported the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Oleksii Kharchenko. On the territory of Luhansk oblast, the russian army used mortars 12 times, drones and FPV drones 18 times, automatic grenade launchers six times, and tube artillery five times.

In Dovzhansk—occupied since 2014—and adjacent settlements, the risk of an environmental disaster is growing due to uncontrolled coal mining: numerous ground subsidences and the depletion of groundwater are being recorded, with water disappearing even from private wells.

In schools of the so-called “lpr,” money is being collected from parents for May 9 celebrations and to congratulate Russian veterans, including participants in the war against Ukraine since 2014.

 

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that over the past 24 hours, on 2 May, interceptors in Kyiv oblast shot down nearly fifty russian drones that were attacking the area. According to him, there were no hits on residential buildings or critical infrastructure. No civilians were injured.

Kyiv police reported that two police officers, who were wounded during a second russian missile strike on Kyiv’s Obolon district on the night of 16 April, have returned to duty. The third remains in hospital.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that law enforcement officers have identified the two russian soldiers who killed a woman during the occupation of Bucha. The suspects are servicemen of the 234th Airborne Assault Regiment of the 76th Airborne Assault Division of the russian Airborne Forces. They have been informed of the charges against them. One soldier will face trial for the brutal treatment of civilians.

Tetiana Mostipan, Director of the Health Department of the Kyiv City State Administration, announced that 16 new plaques bearing the names and photographs of medical staff who lost their lives during the russia-Ukraine war have been installed on the grounds of Kyiv City Clinical Hospital No. 1. There are now 75 in total. The ‘Alley of Fallen Medical Workers’ was established last year. It was created to preserve the memory of medical workers who died whilst performing their duties: in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or whilst rescuing civilians during massive attacks.

On 1 May, a photo exhibition entitled “Winter is over, but the fire is still with us” opened at Kyiv Central Railway Station. The exhibition is dedicated to the work of Ukrainian gas, oil and heating workers who worked round the clock this winter to restore networks and bring heating back to people’s homes following attacks by the russian Federation.

Zhytomyr oblast

A special screening of the Ukrainian film “Killhouse” took place in Zhytomyr on 1 May, attended by the director and cast. It is the world’s first film based on a unique rescue operation involving the use of drone technology. The script is based on real events concerning the rescue of a civilian couple who found themselves in the thick of the fighting in a temporarily occupied territory. The film features real-life military personnel and veterans of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, who appear on screen alongside professional actors.

Sumy oblast

Ukrainian Kursk Group of Forces officially denied a statement by the russian Ministry of Defence on 2 May claiming that it had taken control of Myropillia village in Sumy oblast. According to Kursk Group of Forces, Ukrainian units control the area. There has been no enemy advance, and no assault operations have taken place in that area over the past several days.

The Regional Military Administration reported that more than 300 enemy drones launched by the enemy at people’s homes and infrastructure facilities in Sumy oblast were destroyed over the past day. However, some enemy UAVs caused damage in communities across the oblast. Work to eliminate the consequences is ongoing.

Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that on the night of 2 May, the russian army carried out three drone strikes on central Sumy. The explosions damaged several apartment buildings. One person was injured in the community.

On 2 May, two residents of Seredyna-Buda community who were outside were wounded in a mortar attack. The women, aged 69 and 39, are currently under medical supervision.

In Sumy region, a russian drone attacked civilian infrastructure on the morning of 2 May. A 63-year-old woman sustained minor injuries. She received assistance without hospitalisation.

Mayor Kostiantyn Havrylchuk said that russian forces struck the territory of Putyvl community. There are disruptions to electricity supply, and water supply may also be absent.

As a result of russian shelling in the oblast over the past day, 1 May, three people were injured:

  • In Znob-Novhorodske community, a 45-year-old man was wounded in an enemy drone attack;
  • In Krasnopillia community, a 54-year-old woman was wounded after an enemy drone hit a civilian car;
  • In Sumy community, a 39-year-old man was injured in an enemy UAV attack on the morning of 2 May.

During the day, from the morning of 1 May to the morning of 2 May 2026, russian forces carried out 60 attacks on 43 settlements in 23 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy, Konotop and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Over the past day, air raid alerts in the oblast lasted 21 hours and 42 minutes.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

  • In Shostka community, residential buildings and non-residential premises were damaged;
  • In Seredyna-Buda community, private residential houses, outbuildings, non-residential buildings and a car were damaged;
  • In Znob-Novhorodske community, a private residential house was damaged;
  • In Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community, a non-residential premises was damaged;
  • In Yampil community, private households and non-residential premises were damaged;
  • In Hlukhiv community, a private residential house was destroyed;
  • In Esman community, private households were destroyed;
  • In Shalyhyne community, a private residential house was destroyed;
  • In Velyka Pysarivka community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
  • In Nova Slobidka community, a private residential house was destroyed and an outbuilding was damaged;
  • In Popivka community, outbuildings and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
  • In Putyvl community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
  • In Khmeliv community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
  • In Sumy community, private residential houses, outbuildings, administrative buildings, an apartment building and cars were damaged;
  • In Krasnopillia community, a car was damaged.

Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and non-governmental organisations, evacuated 14 people from border communities.

According to Oleksandr Uvarov, Deputy Head of the State Environmental Inspectorate in Sumy Oblast, specialists have recorded more than 1,500 cases of negative environmental impact in Sumy oblast as a result of russia’s armed aggression. The amount of environmental damage to Sumy oblast calculated and confirmed by expert assessment stands at almost UAH 355b. This is only the part that has been documented conclusively.

 

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that during the day on 1 May, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar attacks with 12 explosions and barrel artillery attacks with 27 explosions, launched FPV drone strikes with 15 explosions, and dropped explosive devices from UAVs with 4 explosions. 

 

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, said that a 69-year-old man was injured in evening attacks in Nikopol. The occupiers attacked the regional centre, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske rural communities by drones and artillery. Eleven private houses, four outbuildings, a canopy, an enterprise and infrastructure were damaged. As a result of yesterday’s strikes, two private houses, an outbuilding, a gas pipeline, an administrative building, infrastructure and an enterprise were also damaged.

Fires broke out in Synelnykove following a UAV attack. Two garages and a car were damaged. The enemy struck Pavlohrad by UAVs. Three people were injured: women aged 24 and 68, and an 18-year-old man. A fire broke out. An apartment block and 11 passenger cars were damaged.

The enemy also struck Kryvyi Rih by UAVs. Infrastructure was damaged.

Three people were injured: a 44-year-old woman and men aged 84 and 62. The enemy attacked the region by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Mozolevske, Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske rural and Myrove communities. Fires broke out. Eight private houses, five outbuildings, a hotel, a garage, three gas pipelines, a minibus and a car were damaged, while another car was destroyed.

A fire broke out in Kryvyi Rih following a UAV attack, and infrastructure was damaged. The enemy attacked Pokrovske community by guided aerial bombs.

Vinnytsia oblast

In Ladyzhyn, Vinnytsia oblast, residents paid tribute to Oleksandr Arbuzov and Yana Siranchuk, natives of the city who were killed on 18 April during an armed attack in Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. 

Kirovohrad oblast

In Novomyrhorod town, Kirovohrad oblast, a peaceful rally was held in support of servicemen who are currently in captivity or missing. Relatives of the soldiers and local residents joined the event. 

Poltava oblast

In Poltava region, the fall of an enemy UAV was recorded in an open area. Debris from another drone was also found following the work of air defence.

 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that a 55-year-old man was killed, and a 7-year-old girl and a 77-year-old man were injured as a result of an attack on Novooleksandrivka. Several private houses were destroyed. Nearby housing was damaged by the blast wave.

 

A 62-year-old woman was killed as a result of a russian attack on Tavriiske. The russian military struck by guided aerial bombs. A residential building was damaged.

 

As a result of another russian attack on Zaporizhzhia, windows and balconies in a residential building were damaged by the blast wave.

 

On 1 May, russian forces carried out 857 strikes on 45 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 3 people were injured.

 

According to the National Police of the oblast, in Novomykolaivka and Shchaslyve, men aged 33 and 63 were injured due to airstrikes yesterday.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, informed that the russian military attacked energy infrastructure by UAVs.

Referring to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on 1 May and during the night of 2 May, russian forces attacked Mykolaiv and the oblast by Shahed drones. Energy infrastructure was under attack. Power outages occurred in the oblast. Windows of a high-rise building and a car were damaged.

Over the past day, russian forces carried out 7 FPV drone attacks on Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities. As a result, windows and the roof of a private house were damaged in Dmytrivka village. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

Based on the information provided by Odesa RMA, on the night of 2 May, the russian military attacked the port infrastructure of Izmail in Odesa oblast. A warehouse and outbuildings were damaged.

Kherson oblast

Yaroslav Shanko, Head of Kherson CMA, reported that russian forces struck a minibus by a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. 2 people were killed and 7 injured. All of them are currently in hospital.

According to Kherson RMA, at around 6pm, russian forces attacked a supermarket by a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. 4 people were injured – women aged 57 and 52, and men aged 54 and 51. They sustained blast injuries, concussions and shrapnel wounds.

At about 4:30pm, russians attacked Inzhenerne settlement by a UAV. A 35-year-old man was injured, preliminarily diagnosed with blast trauma.

At approximately 1:20pm, russians attacked an elderly woman by a drone in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. A 73-year-old woman was hospitalised in serious condition with shrapnel wounds to the head, chest, arms and leg, concussion, blast injury and closed traumatic brain injury.

At around 12:30pm, russians attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by a UAV. 2 children – boys aged 15 and 17 – were injured. They were diagnosed with blast and closed traumatic brain injuries and shrapnel wounds. A 17-year-old girl sustained shrapnel wounds to her leg, concussion, blast injury and closed traumatic brain injury.

At about 11:40am, russians again struck Tsentralnyi district of Kherson by a UAV. An 83-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds to his arm and back, concussion, blast injury and closed traumatic brain injury.

At around 10:15am, russians attacked a woman by a drone in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. A 61-year-old woman was hospitalised with blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to the neck and legs.

For the second time in one day, russians attacked a minibus in Kherson by a drone. At around 10:40am, an enemy UAV hit a bus in Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. The 61-year-old driver sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to his back and leg.

At approximately 7am, russian forces struck a minibus by a UAV in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. 2 people – a municipal worker and a woman – were killed at the scene. Their identities are currently being established. 10 people were injured – 7 men and 3 women. Among them were 4 municipal workers. All the injured were taken to hospital.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

During the farewell to the fallen soldier Mykola Andriychuk in Pidhaitsivska community in Volyn oblast, a stork flew in. This happened at the moment when the residents, kneeling, met their compatriot who had returned from the front on a shield.

Zakarpattia oblast

The oblast and JICA are strengthening their partnership. The regional leadership discussed key areas of further work with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The priority is the development of vocational education and social support.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ukrainian communities expand international cooperation: 6 new partnerships with European municipalities have been concluded. The Italian municipality of Dzugliano is establishing cooperation with Kalush community, Ivano-Frankivsk oblast.

Lviv oblast

The oblast sent 220 ten-inch FPV drones to the front line. This program is the result of the joint work of the Birds of Victory project team, as well as the organizers of various events, forums, conferences, summits, concerts and meetings.

Rivne oblast

In Dubna, the elimination of the consequences of yesterday’s attack continues. Utility workers are working to restore electricity and other communications, and to replace broken windows in residential buildings.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil servicemen receive UAH 15,000 for treatment and rehabilitation. During 2026, 255 servicemen received such assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Over the past 24 hours, during an air alert signal, the Air Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed 6 enemy drones in the oblast. There were no injuries, deaths or damage.

Chernivtsi oblast

Representatives of the RMA on their way to the East handed over 2 new SUVs to the 107th Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces and the 82nd Separate Airborne Assault Bukovina Brigade thanks to the Servant of the People party as part of the Help – Win project.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Ukraine may receive the first €90 billion from the EU as early as spring. The financing is planned for 2026–2027 and will be implemented through joint EU borrowing under the guarantees of the European Union budget. This is one of the largest EU financial mechanisms after the programs introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is expected that Ukraine will receive €45bn annually over two years. In 2026, €16.7bn is planned to be allocated to social and budgetary support, and another €28.3bn to defense needs.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia. They discussed Ukraine’s membership in the European Union.
