What happened in Ukraine today:

During the day, 76 combat clashes took place.

In total, the enemy carried out 2 missile and 67 air strikes, carried out 95 attacks from rocket salvo systems on the positions of our troops and populated areas. As a result of the Russian terrorist attacks, unfortunately, there are wounded among the civilian population. High-rise and private buildings, as well as other infrastructure objects, were destroyed and damaged.

On the Volyn and Poliske directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly. There were no signs of the formation of offensive groups.

In the Siverskyi and Slobozhanskyi directions, the enemy maintains a military presence in the border areas, conducts sabotage and intelligence activities, attacks populated areas from the territory of the Russian Federation, and increases the density of mine and explosive barriers along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy fired from multiple rocket launchers in the areas of Seredyna-Buda, Druzhba and Osoyivka settlements of the Sumy region. More than 30 settlements, including Klyusy, Bleshnya, Gremyach of the Chernihiv region, were subjected to enemy artillery and mortar fire; Bachivsk, Pokrovka, Basivka, Sumy region; Udy, Kozacha Lopan and Ambarne of the Kharkiv region.

The enemy did not conduct offensive (assault) actions in the Kupyansk direction. He carried out airstrikes in the areas of the settlements of Kislivka, Kharkiv region, and Novoyehorivka, Luhansk region. More than 20 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Zapadne, Stepova Novoselivka, and Kotlyarivka of the Kharkiv region.

In the Lyman direction, our soldiers repelled 5 enemy attacks in the area of Terna settlement of Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried to break through the defense of our troops. About 15 settlements were affected by artillery and mortar shelling, among them Bilogorivka in the Luhansk region and Torske, Serebryanka in the Donetsk region.

In the Bakhmut direction, the defense forces repelled 1 enemy attack in the area of the settlement of Bila Gora, Donetsk region, where the enemy tried to improve its tactical position. The enemy carried out airstrikes in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Bohdanivka, Kurdyumivka and Druzhba settlements of the Donetsk region. Also, more than 10 settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, New York, Klishchiivka and Andriivka of the Donetsk region.

In the Avdiivsk direction, our defenders repelled 22 enemy attacks in the areas of Berdychi, Tonenke, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Semenivka and Orlivka settlements. The enemy launched an airstrike in the area of Semenivka settlement. About 15 settlements, including Berdychi, Pervomaiske and Orlivka of the Donetsk region, were hit by enemy artillery and mortar attacks.

On the Novopavlivskyi direction, the defense forces continue to hold back the enemy in the districts of Georgiyivka, Novomykhailivka, Prechistivka, and Krasnohorivka of the Donetsk region, where the enemy, with the support of aviation, tried 34 times to break through the defenses of our troops. The enemy also carried out an airstrike in the area of the settlement of Vugledar. More than 20 settlements came under the artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers, among them Kostyantynivka, Georgiivka, Paraskoviivka, and Vugledar of the Donetsk region.

In the Orihiv direction, the enemy launched 5 unsuccessful attacks in the areas of Gulyaipole, Malynivka and Robotine settlements. He carried out airstrikes in the areas of the settlements of Malinivka and Mala Tokmachka. More than 15 settlements, including Gulyaipilske, Novodarivka, Rivnopil of the Zaporizhia region, were hit by artillery and mortar fire.

In the area of responsibility of the “Odesa” anti-aircraft missile defense system, in the Dnieper (Kherson) direction, the enemy does not give up its intention to knock out our units from the bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnieper. Despite significant losses, he does not stop trying to knock our units out of their positions. Thus, during the day, the enemy carried out 2 unsuccessful assault actions. More than 30 settlements, including Antonivka, Veletenske, Tyaginka, Ivanivka and Zmiivka of the Kherson region, were hit by artillery and mortar attacks.

This night, as a result of the operation of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, the Russian ship of project 22160 “Sergei Kotov” with the crew on board was hit. The information regarding the stay on board the Ka-29 ship transport combat helicopter is being checked.

During the day, the aviation of the defense forces struck 11 areas of concentration of enemy personnel.

Since the beginning of the large-scale war in Ukraine, the Russian Federation has carried out chemical attacks. Mobile groups and other units of the group of forces and means of support recorded 1,068 facts of the use by the Russian Federation of tear gas irritants, which are equipped with poisonous chemical substances prohibited for waging war (combat operations) by paragraph 5 of Article 1 of the Chemical Weapons Convention. Of them, only in February 2024 – 250 cases. (244 cases of VOG use, 1 case of gas use, and 5 cases of other chemical ammunition use). The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada unanimously supported the draft law on banning the UPC MP in Ukraine. It is assumed that the Russian Orthodox Church will not be able to use state and communal property, and the transition of communities to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will be greatly simplified. The public relations service of the Support Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, reported that since the beginning of the large-scale war in Ukraine, the russian federation has launched chemical attacks. Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian troops repelled 60 russian attacks in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Most of the fighting was towards Avdiivka and Novopavlivka. Here, the Defence Forces repelled 50 russian attacks.

Kharkiv oblast

About 15 settlements of the Kharkiv region were hit by enemy artillery and mortar attacks: Milove, Dvorichna, Synkivka and others, Oleg Synegubov, head of the OVA, said. The enemy carried out airstrikes on n.p. Vovchansk, Sinkivka, Velikiy Burluk.

At 7:12 p.m., a private house was on fire in the city of Vovchansk as a result of shelling. No casualties.

At 6:32 p.m., the enemy shelled the village of Veliky Burluk, Kupyan district, twice with anti-aircraft guns. As a result of the blows, a warehouse was damaged, as well as 4 residential buildings. No victims or dead.

 The occupiers also attacked the village. Kruglyakivka and Petropavlivka of the Kupyan district. A 60-year-old civilian appealed, medical assistance was provided on the spot.

During the day, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 enemy attacks in the area of Sinkivka and Tabaivka.

During the day in Kharkiv Oblast, established groups of explosives technicians demined 3.68 hectares of territory and destroyed 164 explosive objects. Demining continues.

The Russian Federation has brought several units to the border with the Kharkiv region, no offensive formations were detected near Kharkiv, said Ilya Yevlash, the spokesman of the Khortytsia operational-strategic military group. Near Tabaivka, the Russian military managed to entrench themselves on their borders. They realized that there were no prospects for the development of their offensives on this part of the front. Donetsk oblast

During the day, the enemy carried out 17 attacks on residential quarters, 11 of which were airstrikes. This was reported in the press service of the Donetsk region police. In total, 1,699 shellings were recorded in the region. 13 settlements were hit: the cities of Zalizne, Kostyantynivka, Siversk, Toretsk, the villages of Zhelanne, Severny, the villages of Arkhangelske, Hnativka, Zoryan, Mayaki, Novoselivka Persha, Oleksandropil, Rozlyv. 18 civilian objects were damaged, including 12 residential buildings, an administrative building, an agricultural enterprise, transport, power grids.

Pokrovsky district. According to OVA, 1 person died in the Marinsk community in Alexandropol, Krasnohorivka, Kostyantynivka and Zoryan were shelled. In the Kurakhiv community under fire Gostre.Kramatorsk district. Kostyantynivka was hit by an airstrike, with no casualties. The outskirts of the Lyman community were shelled.

Bakhmut district. 1 person was injured in the Torets community in the North, 4 high-rise buildings and an administrative building were damaged; 4 houses were damaged in Zalizny. 5 private houses were damaged in the Chasovoyarsk community. 3 houses were damaged in Serebryanka, Siverska hromada.

Luhansk oblast

The invaders will not give up unsuccessful attempts to achieve success in Bilogorivka, Luhansk OVA reported. Enemy assaults there were supported by Russian aviation. Tverdokhlibove and Novoyehorivka were also attacked – bombers of the occupiers were active along the entire front line. As well as artillery with mortar calculations. From February 17, house-to-house canvassing of the population by members of the election commissions began in the occupied territories. They had a number of tasks outlined by the election committee to further achieve a high turnout. So, according to preliminary estimates, more than 84% of the surveyed population of the “LNR” seem to have agreed to come to the elections.

Kyiv oblast

Ruslan Kravchenko,  Head of Kyiv RMA, and Valdemaras Sarapinas, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine, agreed during the meeting that Lithuania will continue to help Kyiv oblast in rebuilding educational institutions destroyed by the russian invaders. The parties also discussed issues related to the improvement of security measures in the oblast, assistance to the military and the creation of a modern rehabilitation center.

Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of Kyiv RMA, said that in total, 244 educational institutions were destroyed and damaged in the oblast as a result of the full-scale invasion. So far, 198 objects have been restored.

Kyiv oblast and the Region of Tuscany (Italy) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the social and humanitarian sphere to solve the urgent problems of the oblast that arose due to the military aggression of the russian federation. Joint plans include identifying priority projects in medicine and education and developing a joint action plan to help the residents of the oblast.

The press service of the National Police reported that investigators of the National Police reported suspicion in absentia to two russian soldiers who killed an unarmed man on March 19, 2022 during the occupation of Bucha. It was possible to identify the killers thanks to video surveillance cameras and the testimony of russian prisoners of war. A local resident tried to get to his parents’ house, the russian military did not let him through and shot him near one of the local residential complexes. 

 Anatolii Fedoruk, Bucha Mayor, said that a new modular rehabilitation center will appear in the community this year. American partners from Ukraine Focus are taking over the expenses for the creation of the rehabilitation center. The hospital will be equipped according to European and American standards, it will have 100-120 beds. The modular construction system will allow the project to be implemented as soon as possible.

Vadym Tokar, Head of Makariv village, stated that German philanthropists visited the community and handed over a car and generators for the needs of local residents. For two years, the German town of Wandlitz has been helping Makariv and during this period, the partners have given the village a garbage truck, two fire engines, a minibus, generators, a metal profile for covering the roofs of communal buildings and other assistance.

An exhibition of Ukrainian artist Kalyna Seriakovska and Danish artist Mikael Colville-Andersen will be opened in Kyiv. The artists say that the title of the exhibition SNAFU is an ironic military acronym Situation Normal – All Fucked Up. According to them, the works are inspired by the irony of trying to “live a normal life in the capital during the war.”

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr RMA reported that in Korosten, Zhytomyr oblast, as part of the ECHO4SCHOOLS-UA: Build Back Better UNDP project, three lyceums damaged by the war were repaired. In the buildings of the damaged educational institutions, classrooms, offices and the roof were repaired, windows and floors in the offices replaced.

In March, mobile medical teams will make 12 trips to the northern communities of Zhytomyr oblast. They carry out examinations for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic lung disease, hearing loss, gender-based violence and depression. They can do an electrocardiogram, measure cholesterol, conduct an ultrasound examination, etc. All services of mobile medical teams are free of charge.

Sumy oblast

At night and in the morning, the russians shelled 12 times of the border territories and settlements of Sumy oblast. 56 explosions were recorded: from artillery (20 hits), mortars (18 hits), grenade launchers (14 hits), launching of unguided missiles from an airplane (4 hits). Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Svesa, Znob-Novhorodske, Seredyna-Buda communities were attacked.

Svesa village council reported that on the night of March 5, the russian army used remote mining of the area of the village of Marchykhina Buda. The message says that the mines have a round shape in the form of balls, they are one of the most dangerous explosive devices, spherical fragmentation aviation bombs.

Sumy oblast State Emergency Service informed that on March 5, the russian military attacked one of the settlements in Sumy oblast. As a result of the attack, a fire broke out in the residential sector, which was managed to be extinguished.

Sumy RMA said that yesterday russians shelled 44 times and a total of 228 explosions from various types of weapons were recorded. Yunakivka, Khotyn, Bilopillia, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Shalyhine, Esman, Seredyna-Buda, Svesa, Druzhbivka communities were targeted.

The regional police reported that as a result of russian strikes on March 4, a civilian was injured. Also, 26 apartments in 5 high-rise buildings, 2 households, a shop, the premises of a lyceum and a kindergarten were damaged on the territory of the communities.

The State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure reported that work has begun in Trostianets to restore the railway station damaged by russian troops. During the occupation of the city, russians used the station as one of the firing positions, and their warehouse and torture chamber were also located there. The occupiers dug up the square in front of the station to store ammunition.

Chernihiv oblast

The police of Chernihiv oblast reported that residential buildings, farm buildings and shop premises were damaged as a result of the russian shelling of one of the border villages of Novhorod-Siverskyi community on March 5.

The SBGS reported that yesterday russian troops shelled the border areas of Chernihiv oblast for 14 times. The communities of Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk and Horodnianka were under enemy attack. A total of 95 explosions were recorded, specifically shelling with mortars, barrel artillery, strikes by FPV drones.

The Department of Civil Protection and Defense Work of Chernihiv oblast stated that on March 4, near the town of Ichnia, Prylutsky region, during earthworks, a tractor tripped over an explosive device but the tractor driver was not injured.

The Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure reported that agency Expertise France opened the Office of mutual support of communities in Chernihiv. Joint work is already underway on specific projects that will be fully or partially implemented in Chernihiv oblast, in the total amount of more than EUR 5 million.

On March 3, a photo book with photos of people who stayed in the city in February-March 2022 and continued their work during the hostilities was presented in Chernihiv. In total, the 04:35 Chernihiv publication included stories from more than a hundred townspeople. These are military, utility workers, doctors, journalists and others. According to Vlad Speshilov, photographer and author of the book, they plan to spend all the money from the sale of books on the purchase of two cars for the military.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

In the evening the enemy attacked Nikopol with Uragan MRLs. There were no casualties.

The Air Defence systems shot down a missile over Kryvyi Rih oblast.

The enemy attacked Nikopol region 7 times, launching kamikaze drones and shelling from artillery. They shelled the region’s center, Myrove and Marhanets communities. A private enterprise, 2 residential buildings, the same number of outbuildings, a garage, a greenhouse, a power line and gas pipelines were damaged. There were no casualties.

Throughout 2024, war veterans, their families and fallen soldiers’ families can visit regional cultural institutions free of charge and everyone can go to the Museum of the Modern russo-Ukrainian War for free as well. According to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, the relevant decisions were supported at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Regional Council on Culture and Spirituality.

Vinnytsia oblast

A photo exhibition dedicated to the second anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine was opened in the city council lobby. The exhibition was organized by Kvadrat Center with the city council support. The exhibition includes 18 selected works by project participants, including IDPs, women whose husbands were killed during the full-scale invasion, students, etc. and will run until March 8.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kirovohrad oblast the number of IDPs applying for employment services has increased. In two months of 2024, 613 people got registered, which is almost 3 times more than in the same period in 2023. A total of 835 IDPs have used the service since the beginning of the year. One in four unemployed people is under 35, one third is aged 35 to 44, almost a quarter is aged 45-55 and one in six is over 55. The number of vacancies in Kropyvnytskyi has increased by 60%. On average, 2 people applied for one vacancy in January-February 2024, compared to 6 people last year. In two months, 783 people were employed.

Poltava oblast

A school that trains UAV pilots for agriculture has been opened in Poltava oblast. The unique project was implemented by combining the efforts of the government, business and scientists.  The training will be conducted at the Industry 4.0 Implementation Center. The course includes theory and practice, including internships at enterprises. Upon completion, graduates will receive a certificate. The school will be free of charge for military and IDPs.

Cherkasy oblast

A modern rehabilitation centre for injured soldiers, the 9th in the national Recovery network, has been opened in Cherkasy. Every year, it will provide quality and free assistance to more than a thousand defenders of Ukraine. The centre is equipped to meet the requirements of inclusive premises. Specialists will work with the injured according to an individual programme. By the end of 2024, 16 more rehabilitation centres are planned to be opened across Ukraine.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that on March 4, the russian military conducted 295 strikes on 8 cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 4 airstrikes targeted Malynivka, Novodanylivka and Robotyne. Additionally, drones, artillery and MLRS were used on other settlements.

The Ukrainian General Staff announced that the Defense Forces repelled one russian attack near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhia oblast yesterday.

According to the State Border Guard Service, border guards repelled an attack of 10 russian FPV drones towards Zaporizhzhia. 8 UAVs exploded in the air, while two others were landed by defenders without detonation.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv RMA reported that on March 4, 2024, at 9:18 am and 10:01 am, the water area of Ochakiv community came under enemy artillery shelling. There were no casualties reported.

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, informed that Mykolaiv ports can still not export grain from Ukraine due to intensified russian shelling of Kinburn Spit. He emphasized that addressing this issue, including the potential expansion of the grain corridor and the incorporation of Mykolaiv ports into exports, is a matter of top priority and requires resolution at the state level.

Odesa oblast

The Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine reported that on the night of March 5, Odesa oblast was targeted by Shahed-131/136 drones. Recreational facilities were damaged, resulting in a fire that was promptly extinguished. Additionally, the occupiers damaged a private residence with a pier and outbuildings in the recreational area. There were no casualties reported. 18 out of 22 attack drones were shot down over Odesa oblast during this night.

Yurii Lytvyn, Head of Ukraine Sea Ports Authority SE (USPA), announced that Odesa Port received a modern Komatsu WA320-5 wheeled loader as part of assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). This equipment will facilitate the restoration and reconstruction of port infrastructure. Additionally, 6 Volvo diesel generators mounted on Iveco vehicles, previously provided, will fully meet the electricity needs of the administrative offices not only in the Greater Odesa ports but can also be deployed to any USPA branch.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson RMA, in the afternoon, russian forces shelled downtown Kherson. A man was wounded and hospitalized in moderate condition.

Around 7 am, the russian military shelled Kherson. 2 people were injured.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on March 4, russian forces shelled 19 settlements in Kherson oblast. 8 high-rise buildings, 18 private houses, a school, administrative buildings and a petrol station were damaged. There were hits on warehouse premises and cemetery territory. One person was injured.

According to the Southern Defense Forces, the Ukrainian military on the left bank of Kherson oblast repelled 2 russian attacks and eliminated 62 russian occupiers. Ukrainian units continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Over the weekend, the 5th charity football tournament took place in the regional center of Volyn. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for electronic warfare equipment for soldiers of a separate rifle battalion, as well as to support defenders released from captivity. They raised UAH 262K.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA held a joint meeting of the management of the regional council, the RMA and specialized departments. In Zakarpattia, a project will be implemented on dental prosthetics for veterans. Participants in hostilities and persons with disabilities as a result of the war will receive dental prosthesis services free of charge in medical institutions of the oblast, regardless of their form of ownership.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

A mobile working group continues to work in the communities of Prykarpattia, which provides consultations to the families of the fallen defenders. It includes representatives of the structural units of Ivano-Frankivsk RMA, which deal with issues of veteran policy, territorial recruitment centers, military formations and law enforcement agencies, as well as the Pension Fund, the employment service.

Lviv oblast

Lviv community sent 10 Mara aircraft and 42 Mavic drones (3E/3/3 Pro) worth UAH 8.3 mln thanks to the Lion’s Revenge initiative.

The III degree For Courage orders were presented to the families of the fallen Defenders from Drohobych region.

A memorial plaque on the facade of Strashevych school, Starosambir community, to Petro Voryk, fallen defender, was opened. There are two granite plaques on the wall of the school to Yaroslav Barshivskyi and Mykola Hrim, students who were killed in the war. Defender Petro Voryk served in the 71th separate brigades of the airborne assault troops of Ukraine. He was killed on January 1, 2024 near Avdiivka.

Over 700 children of Ukrainian defenders attended the Cinderella performance thanks to the People of the Future initiative of the Coordination Headquarters and Lviv RMA. The educational and motivational project People of the Future is designed to help children of military personnel and civilians who were left without parental care due to the war.

The RMA reported that in Trostianets School, Stryi region, memorial plaques were installed to school graduates Viacheslav Bibikov, Taras Prudyvus and Orest Danylovych, who were killed defending Ukraine.

Rivne oblast

The Staroviery family, parents of the killed border guard from Rivne, purchased 2 FPV drones for Donetsk border detachment. Serhii was killed during artillery shelling in Soledar. He was one of the first to rush into battle and was mortally wounded.

In Rivne oblast, every 3rd family medics already provides mental health support. And the number of such specialists grows every day, as does the number of patients. In the oblast, 1 139 people have already completed the relevant training

Ternopil oblast received 8 school buses thanks to the School Buses for Ternopil Oblast project and with financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the Veterans to Patriots public organization and the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Lviv.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi community sent 100 FPV drones worth over UAH 2 mln to the Defense Forces. In 2024 alone, 1 110 FPV drones of various modifications and 118 expensive quadcopters (MATRICE 30T, Mavic 3T Termal, AUTEL 4) were sent at the expense of the city budget. In January-February, quadcopters and FPV drones were purchased for over UAH 42.5 mln. In addition, military units purchase the necessary equipment independently with the funds allocated to them by the city.

Chernivtsi oblast

In Chernivtsi, the On the Wings of Victory Spring charity fair was held in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine organized by the Scream of the Souls of Mothers and Wives of Military Servicemen NGO and Chernivtsi RMA. At the fair, they raised UAH 70K to purchase drones for defenders.

The Resolution of the European Parliament on the need for unwavering EU support for Ukraine after 2 years of russia’s war against Ukraine stated that the European Parliament supports the proposal that all EU member states and NATO allies support Ukraine in the military sphere at least 0.25% of their GDP annually.

Lithuania will support the Czech Republic‘s initiative to purchase ammunition for Ukraine outside the EU. How Lithuanians will participate and how much funds will be allocated is still unknown. “Lithuania will continue to support all formats that will increase Ukraine’s ability to effectively defend itself against russian aggression,” said Ingrid Simonite, Prime Minister. The Czech Republic has already found 800K shells for Ukraine. It is known that the Netherlands and Belgium provided funds for their purchase – EUR 250 mln and EUR 200 mln, respectively.

Since November 2023, the IAEA has organized five deliveries of equipment for nuclear and physical nuclear security to Ukraine. Since the beginning of the Great War, the total value of supplies has reached over EUR 8.5 mln.

Ukraine has started negotiations with Spain on the conclusion of a bilateral security agreement. The structure of the future agreement was discussed and the schedule for further negotiations was agreed.

The UN reported that about 6.5 mln refugees from Ukraine are abroad.

Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Jake Sullivan, US President’s national security advisor. They discussed the current situation at the front and the actions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine to repel the russian invasion.

Bill Blair, Canadian Defense Minister, announced that the country is considering the possibility of sending military instructors to Ukraine.

Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland, condemned the handshake of the heads of foreign affairs of Hungary and Slovakia with a laurel wreath. “It’s not just a matter of good or bad taste. It’s not just a matter of someone not having a sense of time. This is another demonstration on the part of the Hungarian government, which is difficult to accept not only for moral reasons, but also for purely political reasons,” he said.
