The enemy fired from artillery and mortar at more than 10 settlements, including Nevske, Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, Torske, Serebryanka, Verkhniokamyianske, and Rozdolivka, Donetsk oblast.
Towards Bakhmut, the Ukrainian troops repelled 17 attacks of the adversary near Bohdanivka, Klischiivka, and Andriivka, Donetsk oblast. Around 10 settlements were shelled from artillery and mortar, including Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Ivanivske, Klischiivka, Andriivka, and Kurdiumivka, Donetsk oblast.
Towards Avdiivka, the Ukrainian defenders repelled 9 enemy attacks in the vicinities of Avdiivka and 13 more attacks near Sieverne, south of Tonenke, Pervomaiske, and Nevelske, Donetsk oblast. The enemy fired from artillery and mortar at around 15 settlements, including Sukha Balka, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretyne, Avdiivka, Berdychi, and Nevelske, Donetsk oblast.
Towards Mariinka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy near Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. With the air support, the enemy launched 12 unsuccessful attacks. Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Mariinka, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka were shelled from artillery and mortar by the occupiers.
Towards Shakhtarsk, the enemy did not conduct any offensive (assault) operations. Around 10 settlements, including Bohoyavlenka, Vuhledar, Prechystivka, Zolota Nyva, Blahodatne, and Urozhaine, Donetsk oblast, came under artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Zaporizhzhia, the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 13 adversary attacks west of Novopokrovka and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast. Around 25 settlements, including Novodanylivka, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Pyatykhatky, and Plavni, Zaporizhzhia oblast, were shelled with enemy artillery and mortar.
Towards Kherson, the enemy shelled Chornobaivka, Kherson oblast, and civilian targets of the city of Kherson with artillery.

DTEK completed another overhaul and put into operation a power unit of one of the company’s thermal power plants into the power system. This is one of the blocks badly damaged by massive enemy attacks during the last heating season. The capacity added to the network is already functioning and carries the load, which is planned to be increased to 150 MW in the near future. As part of the annual planned repair campaign, DTEK has already carried out 24 repairs of power units at the company’s TPP.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed that they had discovered wiretapping devices in the office of Commander-in-Chief Zaluzhnyy and staff members. They were found during a routine inspection of the premises.

Volodymyr Fito, Head of public relations service of the Ground Forces Command, informed that russia conducted 498 attacks on 17 December towards Lyman-Kupiansk alone. The enemy troops launched four air strikes and used 13 kamikaze drones in this area. 359 russian soldiers were eliminated during the day. Also russian losses in the east in the first half of December amounted up to 7,697 people and 485 pieces of equipment.
From 1 to 16 December, the invaders lost 7,697 troops and 485 pieces of equipment, including 67 tanks, 99 armoured combat vehicles, 77 cannons and mortars, in the area of responsibility of Khortytsia operational-strategic group.
Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that over 20 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were under enemy artillery and mortar attacks, including: Vovchansk, Vovchanski Khutory of Chuhuiv region, Topoli, Dvorichna, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Ivanivka of Kupiansk region. Petropavlivka, Kupiansk region, was under air strikes.
A building of an agricultural enterprise was damaged as a result of hostile shelling in Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region. There were no casualties.
A man born in 1994 exploded on an unknown explosive device in his own yard in Hlushkivka village, Kupiansk region, at around 2:30 pm. The victim was taken to hospital with an acubar trauma and wounds to both hands. He is in moderate condition.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 9 enemy attacks near Synkivka and east of Petropavlivka of Kupiansk region.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, combined pyrotechnic units in Kharkiv oblast have surveyed more than 8,600 hectares of territory. They have defused 145,186 explosive ordnance.
Andrii Demchenko, Spokesman of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, informed that border guard units detected and repelled two russian subversive and reconnaissance groups from the state border near Kharkiv oblast.
On 5 October, the largest instantaneous death toll in Kharkiv oblast during the full-scale war occurred in Hroza village: russian missile killed visitors to a local cafe who had come to the wake of the fallen soldier Andrii Kozyr. In Hroza, 59 people were killed. Almost every house in the village lost someone close to them. A special photo project has been created in memory of those killed in Hroza.
Police recorded 10 hits on civilians. 7 residential buildings and 4 private buildings were damaged. Avdiivka, Kurakhove, Chasiv Yar cities, Bohdanivka, Novobakhmutivka, Orlivka and Prohres villages were under attack. Orlivka suffered missile shelling and as a result, a building was destroyed.
According to Donetsk Regional Military Administration, towards Volnovakha, Vuhledar community faced chaotic shelling.
Towards Donetsk, 1 person was injured as a result of the attack in Avdiivka. Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Yelyzavetivka and Pobieda of Marinka community were shelled.
Towards Horlivka, a building and industrial estate were damaged.
Towards Lysychansk, a building was damaged in Serebrianka of Siversk community. Lyman community suffered 9 attacks.
According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, russian army assaulted Makiivka. There was severe fighting near Terny, Donetsk oblast, which is a little bit more south from Krasnorichensk community, Luhansk oblast. The invaders launched 534 shells at positions of the Defence Forces and territories of liberated settlements. Bilohorivka was under heavy shelling. The enemy is suffering losses but is not reducing attacking pressure.
Even though there is neither mobile nor wired connection, some residents of Rubizhne still receive the news. For instance, russian traveling contractor, who recently came to the city, are looting houses which they promised to repair.
In the so-called “lpr” fight against high prices was announced for the second time in two months as the previous October order of “ministry of industry and trade” changed nothing. They tried to set the prices on food at cost price, specifically with 5% margin. Also they did a few demonstrative checks which did not bothered russian trade networks. Now the promise is repeated as there will be elections in russia in March.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv RMA reported that the oblast is one of the regions on whose territory the largest number of medical facilities damaged by the russian army have been restored. In total, 850 medical facilities were fully or partially restored on the territory of Ukraine during almost 22 months of full-scale war.
Irpin Mayor Oleksandr Markushyn said that major repairs of two more high-rise buildings in the city will soon begin. It is about the houses on Myr and Kotlyarevskyi streets damaged due to the russian invasion. Funds for the restoration were allocated by the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression.
On Sunday, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard conducted the training “Education on the risks associated with explosive objects” in Kyiv. At the training at the Obolonskyi Vcentry HUB, women received basic knowledge of the rules of safe behavior that save life and health. The purpose of the event is social cohesion of Ukrainians, support and assistance during the war.
The Ministry of Health reported that blood centers in Kyiv and seven other cities of Ukraine need blood of all groups and rhesus. The need for donated blood remains consistently high across the country and changes daily depending on circumstances.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy opened a plaque with the name of American businessman and philanthropist Howard Buffett on the Alley of Courage in Kyiv. The philanthropist, who has repeatedly visited Ukraine and provided support to Ukrainians was present at the opening of the plaque himself. The plaque bears the date of his first visit after the start of the full-scale russian invasion.
On December 18, the premiere of the social charity project – the musical FAME Jr. will take place at the Podil Theater in the capital. from the children’s music and theater studio Broadway Kids Studio. The main mission of the charity project is to support young people who remain living in Ukraine during a full-scale war.
In Zhytomyr oblast, the Comprehensive Program for Social Support of Internally Displaced Persons for 2024 has been approved. As reported in RMA, more than 119,000 forced migrants have found shelter in the oblast since the beginning of the full-scale war. At the moment, almost 63,000 migrants actually live on its territory, 17,600 of which are children, 3,000 people with disabilities and 491 large families.
The representative of the National Council for Television and Radio Broadcasting in Zhytomyr oblast, Ivan Natykach reported that five digital TV signal transmitters of the multi-channel network MH-7 are already working in the oblast. Sumy RMA reported that the night in the oblast passed without shelling. Yesterday, during the day, the enemy carried out 23 shellings of the border territories and settlements of the Sumy oblast, 61 explosions were recorded. The Ministry of Energy informs that 67 settlements – 3.9 thousand subscribers – remain without voltage due to the hostilities.
Ukrzaliznytsia has launched a ticket ordering service for the military. Now servicemen can purchase a travel document for the train, even if the tickets are already sold out. This is stated in a message on the official website of Ukrzaliznytsia. Servicemen can book tickets online on a special portal. To do this, you need to leave an application on the portal no later than 6 hours before the departure of the train and buy a ticket at the ticket office no later than 1 hour before its departure. Special order tickets are available for 17 trains, which are the most popular among military personnel.
A Christmas and New Year holiday was held in Sumy oblast for children of the region whose parents died (missing) as a result of hostilities, children of armed forces servicemen, participants in hostilities, internally displaced children, orphans and children deprived of parental care.
The Sumy waterworks participated in the discussion of the “Standards for the Modernization of Water Management Infrastructure” project, which was attended by 11 Ukrainian waterworks and 18 experts from relevant institutions of Ukraine and Slovakia. Slovakia experts emphasized the importance of developing standards in advance, because the presence of an officially approved strategic document will be a necessary basis for the implementation of the sectoral plan for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine. Hero of Ukraine Oleksandr Matsievskyi from Chernihiv oblast was posthumously awarded the Rainer Hildebrandt Medal. The mother of the fighter Paraska Demchuk received the award. She, in turn, presented to the Berlin Wall Museum “Checkpoint Charlie” a statuette of her son, which the authors of the monument to Matsievsky in Kyiv made for her in a single copy. According to the head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, Mykola Lukashuk, 850 stoves for Defenders were sent to military units. The stoves were purchased with regional budget funds as part of the Defense Forces support programs.
Coordinators of the Interregional Coordination Humanitarian Headquarters, Antonina Ivashchuk and Dmytro Naumenko announced that Vinnytsia sent to the frontline three radio-controlled complexes for the military, necessary for territory’s reconnaissance. This is already the second batch of aid to one of the brigades where Vinnytsia residents serve. UAVs will help defenders to work more effectively in Kherson direction.
According to City Council in Vinnytsia training for the second course veterans’ assistants has ended. They received the certificates. 27 people graduated, 19 of them from Vinnytsia community. During three weeks the participants mastered legal training, studied the legislative framework that concerns veterans and their family members, considered issues of social adaptation, professional and psychological training.
Andrii Raikovych, Head of RMA reported that the 121st Territorial Defense brigade is exactly one year old. A year of formation and trials. A year on combat positions. A year of protection from the enemy.
A memorial service was held for the fallen defenders. Fighters Vitalii Khots and Viacheslav Tatarchenko lived in Poltava.
Soldier Vitalii Khots was 46 years old, he was a tank gunner during the war. Was killed in action on July 26 near Robotyne village, Zaporizhzhia region.

He was a gunner of the mechanized company department of the 110th brigade mechanized battalion. He was considered missing since March 19, 2023, after the assault by the enemy near Kamianka village in Donetsk region. The defender was 25 years old.

Ivan Kukhta, Head of the city’s military administration, informed that on December 17, two men sustained injuries due to the detonation of an anti-personnel mine in city of Snihurivka in Mykolaiv oblast.
In Mykolaiv, a youth hub is set to be unveiled in spring 2024. This hub will serve as a platform for implementing projects and exchanging experiences among young people from various regions of Ukraine and Denmark. Julie Arnfred Bojesen, director of the Ukrainian-Danish Youth House in Kyiv, credited the opening of this branch to a 5 million Danish kroner grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark.
The UMIT_G cargo ship, flying the Turkish flag, has reached Odesa via the “grain corridor”. This is not the first time that this ship has been involved in transporting goods across the Black Sea amidst the ongoing full-scale war. Notably, the cargo ship was one of the ships detained by russians in the Black Sea in 2015. The conflict between russia and Turkey escalated following the downing of a russian fighter jet by Turkish military forces in Syria. Members of the executive committee agreed on the project of the Economic and Social Development Program of Lutsk City Territorial Community for 2024. Key tasks under martial law conditions in 2024 remain assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and territorial defense units.

Defenders who defended the integrity of Ukraine at the cost of their lives were honored in Solotvyn Community. In the village of Rakovets, annotated plaques commemorating the fallen Heroes were opened and consecrated. Regional awards were also presented to relatives of fallen servicemen from Solotvyn community.
Ivan Dzyunyk, adefender from Strii region, was posthumously awarded with the 3rd degree “For Courage” Order . The warrior was killed in battle near Bakhmut.
State awards were presented to the families of the fallen defenders from Zolochiv region. 3rd degree “For Courage” orders were awarded to relatives of soldiers Andrii Koval and Serhii Basyura, as well as sergeant Oleh Romanyuk. Defenders were killed on different front lines.
A memorial plaque to Bohdan Murin, graduate of the school, was unveiled on the facade of Pidhaychykivskyi school. Representatives of the RMA and Katarina Haberkorn, Swabia-Bukovina partnership coordinator of the European Bureau of the General Council of Deputies of the District of Swabia, visited the facility where the defenders undergo rehabilitation. According to the program of medical guarantees, in 2023 the institution concluded an agreement on Rehabilitation Assistance for Adults and Children in Inpatient Conditions in the amount of UAH 9 275 568 and in outpatient conditions – UAH 1 298 400.
