It has been the 547th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The occupiers launched yet another attack on the territory of Ukraine using Shahed-136/131 UAVs. The Ukrainian air defense brought down 12 combat UAVs of the enemy. 

The enemy launched 5 missile and 34 air strikes, 41 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. The russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Residential buildings, port infrastructure, schools, and other civilian infrastructure were damaged. 

Ukraine is still under the threat of missile and air strikes. There were 26 combat engagements.

Towards Volyn and Polissia, there were no significant changes. 

Towards Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna, the enemy launched an air strike in the vicinities of Bobylivka, Sumy oblast. The invaders fired from mortars and artillery at more than 25 settlements, including Bleshnya, Yanzhulivka, Mykolaivka, Chernihiv oblast, Chernatske, Lomlenka, Kindrativka, Novodmytrivka, Sumy oblast, Udy, Hraniv, Ohirtseve, Bochkove, Budarky, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the vicinity of Novouehorivka, Luhansk oblast . The enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Orlyanske, Kharkiv oblast, and Nadiya, Luhansk oblast. The settlements of Dvorichna, Synkivka, Ivanivka, Kyslivka, Berestove, Kharkiv oblast came under artillery and mortar fire.

Towards Lyman, the enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Spirne and Rozdolivka. They fired from artillery at more than 30 settlements, including Nevske, Bilohorivka, Luhansk oblast, Spirne and Rozdolivka, Donetsk oblast. 

Towards Bakhmut, the invaders launched air strikes in the vicinity of Ivanivske and Bila Hora, Donetsk oblast. More than 10x settlements, including, Vasyukivka, Minkivka, Markove, Bakhmut, Chasiv Yar, New York, Donetsk oblast, suffered from enemy artillery shelling. 

Towards Avdiivka, the enemy conducted unsuccessful offensives in the area south of Avdiivka, Donetsk oblast. The invaders fired artillery at more than 10x settlements, including Novobakhmutivka, Novokalynove, Stepove, Karlivka, Pervomaiske, Nevelske, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Mariinka, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the russian offensive in the vicinity of Mariinka and Novomykhailivka, Donetsk oblast. The enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Krasnohorivka, Donetsk oblast. The invaders fired artillery at the settlements of Zhelanne Pershe, Oleksandropil, Pobieda, Katerynivka, Yelyzavetivka, Illinka, Donetsk oblast.

Towards Shakhtarsk, the enemy launched an air strike in the vicinity of Staromaiorske, Donetsk oblast. More than 10 settlements, including Vuhledar, Novoukrainka, Zolota Nyva, Vremivka, Staromaiorske, Rivnopil, Donetsk oblast, suffered from enemy artillery shelling.

Towards Zaporizhzhia, the invaders launched air strikes in the vicinity of Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast. More than 20x settlements suffered from enemy artillery shelling, including Novodarivka, Malynivka, Zaliznychne, Mala Tokmachka, Mali Shcherbaky, Piatykhatky, Zaporizhzhia oblast. 

Towards Kherson, the enemy launched an air strike in the vicinity of Tyahynka, Kherson oblast. The enemy fired artillery at more than 15 settlements, including Lvove, the city of Kherson, Komyshany, Bilozerka, Kizomys, Kherson oblast, and Ochakiv, Mykolaiv oblast.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to conduct the offensive operation towards Melitopol, consolidating their positions and conducting counter-battery fire.

The Ukrainian Air Force launched 1 air strike on a command post, 13 air strikes on the concentrations of troops, and 3 air strikes on the anti-aircraft missile system of the adversary.

The Ukrainian missile and artillery troops hit 1 command posts, 1 concentration of troops, weapons, and military equipment, and 3 artillery systems at their firing positions, 1 anti-aircraft missile system, 1 ammunition depot and 1 electronic warfare station of the invaders.


The Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure Oleksandr Kubrakov reported that the occupiers destroyed 13,000 tons of grain at night. In general, russian attacks 270,000 tons of grain were destroyed at the ports.

According to the head of the State Administration of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov, the successful special operation was carried out to lure a russian Mi-8 helicopter into Ukrainian territory. In addition to the pilot who cooperated with Ukraine, there were 2 people on board. Currently, the pilot and his family are in Ukraine.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defence, informed that russian troops continue to try to advancea and engagements continue towards Kupiansk. According to her, the Defence Forces are “repelling the enemy and disrupting all their plans”.

In Kharkiv oblast, from 24 February 2022 to April 2023, Tribunal for Putin initiative group, founded by Ukrainian human rights activists, recorded the largest number of attacks on civilian objects among other regions of Ukraine – 7,800.

Press service of Kharkiv State Emergency Service reported that until 5 am, under the threat of repeated shelling, rescuers extinguished fires in Vovchansk, which russians had been chaotically shelling since 11:20 pm on 23 August. The total area of the fires extinguished by rescuers was over 900 square metres. A barracks-type residential building, two outbuildings, the administrative building of a medical institution, a private woodworking enterprise and two pieces of equipment were on fire.

The press service added that at around 9:30 am, russians shelled Petropavlivka, Kupiansk region, setting fire to the roof of the building and an outbuilding. Firefighters extinguished the fire “with the sound of shells that continued to explode nearby”.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that last night around 1:40 am, the enemy shelled Vovchansk, Chuhuiv region, once again. A medical institution was damaged and a fire broke out. A civilian industrial facility was also damaged. There were no casualties. In addition, around 2:00 am, the enemy shelled Vilcha village, Chuhuiv region, with artillery. There were no casualties or large-scale destruction.

Yesterday settlements of  Bohodukhiv, Chuhuiv and Kupiansk regions wrre under enemy attacks. There were no casualties.

The previous morning, the enemy attacked Mykhailivka village, Chuhuiv region, with an X-35 missile. The buildings and equipment of the agricultural enterprise were damaged and a fire broke out.

As a result of the shelling in Kupiansk, a residential building, private vehicles and a power line were damaged.

In Vovchansk, a residential building and two outbuildings burned down as a result of hostile shelling.

At around 4:45 pm in Yavirske village, Izium region, a remote-controlled mini-tractor exploded on the territory of an agricultural enterprise during earthworks on an unknown explosive ordnance.

Mine clearance is ongoing. Yesterday pyrotechnics of the State Emergency Service examined more than 6.6 hectares of territory and defused 51 explosive ordnance.

Donetsk oblast

At around 11 am, russian troops shelled Kurakhove. An enterprise of a supermarket and administrative building were hit. 4 people were injured.

The masters of Faino Ukrainian Conversation Club from Donetsk oblast have created a map of Ukraine with motanka dolls. The map features more than 70 dolls that demonstrate the traditions of each region. The project was called “Hugs”. The map was included in the Ukrainian Book of Records. On Independence Day, it will be presented in Berezhany, Ternopil oblast, and then it is planned to travel across Ukraine and be transferred to a museum in Donetsk oblast.

In the morning, russians shelled the outskirts of Kramatorsk community, damaging private buildings. At night, Prelesne of Cherkasy region were targeted and a farm was damaged. 

Towards Volnovakha, 10 buildings in Maksymivka and 2 in Bohoiavlenka of Vuhledar community were damaged.

Towards Donetsk, a building was damaged in Zoriane of Marinka community.

Towards Horlivka, 6 buildings were damaged in Chasiv Yar.

Towards Lysychansk, a building in Siversk and a school in Zvanivka were damaged.

Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday russians killed 1 civilian in Chasiv Yar. Another 4 people were injured in the region.  

Luhansk oblast

From time to time, russians try to break through the defences but Ukrainian troops inflict significant damage on them, forcing the enemy to change their previous plans. For instance, this happens in Novoiehorivka, where the invaders failed. The enemy launched an air strike on Tverdokhlibove and artillery strikes on Nevske and Bilohorivka.

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the enemy is preparing to launch another wave of forced mobilisation in the occupied part of Luhansk region. The only factor holding them back is the so-called ‘first elections’ to be held in September. Currently, the occupation authorities are holding meetings and instructing the executors. People will receive the agenda in the presence of russian Guard and police. According to the preliminary plan, up to 70K people are to be mobilised.

Previously, Sievierodonetsk school students returning from the so-called “holiday” from russian federation were invited to “individual conversations” with the relevant occupation services. As the authorities suspect that when students left the city, those who logged on to the Internet after a year-long break could keep in touch with their peers who had evacuated and learn news from sources not under control of russian propaganda. Now, appropriate educational measures are taken before departure to prevent all risks. It is not highly recommended to communicate with classmates who are now living in safe regions of Ukraine and abroad.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

On the occasion of Independence Day, celebrations were held on Sofia Square in Kyiv with the participation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The event was attended by the presidents of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda and Portugal Marcelo Rebelu de Souza, the Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gar Stere and the head of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić. The leaders of Lithuania and Portugal delivered speeches in Ukrainian. Zelenskyy presented state awards to Ukrainian military personnel, four of them posthumously.

On August 23, Hungarian President Katalin Novak visited the lyceum and kindergarten in the village of Zahaltsi, which were destroyed by russian shelling. As reported in the Kyiv RMA, the “Hungarian Ecumenical Aid Service-Ukraine” charity foundation installed a modular kindergarten on the territory of the damaged one, which began operating at the past March 2023. Partners from Hungary will help with the overhaul of the Zahaltsi Lyceum.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal held a meeting in Kyiv with Chairman of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zelko Komsic and Presidium member Denis Bechirovych. It was about help in demining and rehabilitation of wounded soldiers.

Mayor of Bucha Anatoly Fedoruk said that Taiwan will help restore the premises of the children’s and youth sports school of martial arts in the city. More than UAH 18 million will be allocated for this. The building was destroyed during the full-scale invasion of the russian troops on the territory of Kyiv oblast.

As part of the “Defender of Kyiv” program for 2022-2024, the capital allocated UAH 250 million from the city budget to support military intelligence of Ukraine. As reported in the Main Directorate of Intelligence, these funds will be directed to the purchase of weapons and equipment in order to increase the effectiveness of the combat tasks that Ukrainian intelligence officers perform around the clock in the war with the russian aggressor.

For Independence Day, Ukrposhta issued a new “Mother Ukraine” stamp. The event took place in Kyiv near the “Motherland” monument. Circulation of the stamp is 600,000 copies. The director of “Ukrposhta” Ihor Smilyanskyi said that the vast majority of stamps have already been sold online throughout the country.

In Boryspil, in honor of Flag Day, border guards held a charity car run. The convoy consisted of more than 100 cars. During the event, it was announced that the collection for radio-electronic warfare equipment for the fighters of the Donetsk detachment and the “Kyiv” checkpoint would start.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr Mayor Serhiy Sukhomlin reported that on Independence Day in Zhytomyr, servicemen were awarded and gifts with names were presented to the children of fallen soldiers.

In the 14th postal department of Zhytomyr, a special redemption of the “Mother Ukraine” postage stamp from Ukrposhta took place. Its release was timed to coincide with the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that the russians carried out 31 attacks on populated areas of the oblast. Znob-Novhorodske, Nova Sloboda, Velyka Pysarivka, Romny, Svesa, Krasnopillia, Bilopillia, Khotyn, Seredina-Buda and Putivl communities were under enemy shelling. In total, 120 hits from mortars, artillery, AGS, and VOG drops from UAVs were recorded.

A day of mourning for the dead educators was announced in Sumy and Romny. As a result of a russian drone hitting a school in the city of Romny on the morning of August 23, four people died. The premises of the educational institution were completely destroyed, 4 people were injured.

The Sumy regional prosecutor’s office reported that two people were injured due to russian mortar shelling of the Krasnopillia community on August 23. The 61-year-old owner of the house and his 57-year-old wife were injured, their household, tractor and car were damaged.

During the night and morning of August 24, the russians carried out 11 shellings of the border areas and settlements of the Sumy oblast. As reported in RMA, a total of 67 artillery and mortar strikes were recorded. Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novhorodske, Khotyn, Yunakivka, Velika Pysarivka communities came under shelling.

On the Day of the National Flag of Ukraine, a “Victory Run” was held in Trostyanets. The purpose of the event is to raise funds for the reconstruction of the Volodymyr Kuts Stadium, which was damaged by the russians during the occupation of the city in 2022.

Chernihiv oblast

During the past day, the russians shelled the border of Chernihiv oblast 8 times from their territory. The Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka communities were shelled. As reported in the SBGS, 8 mortar and barrel artillery strikes were recorded in the direction of the Hrem’yach settlement and 123 mortar, AGS and barrel artillery strikes in the direction of Yanzhulivka, Leonivka, Mykolaivka and Bleshnya settlements.

Chernihiv city council reported that they plan to update the notification system in the city. The new system must be modern and meet all requirements, taking into account the experience of other countries. It envisages 12 points on the territory of the city, which will be switched on centrally and cover the entire territory of the city. Chernihiv’s international partners will help with the implementation of the project.

The State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine reported that a 400-meter bridge over the Seim River near Baturin in Chernihiv oblast, which was destroyed at the beginning of a full-scale invasion by russian troops, was opened. 5 bridges have already been rebuilt on the territory of the oblast, two more metal modular structures have been installed with the assistance of the French humanitarian mission.

In the Mena community, schoolchildren joined to the development of the community – 11 schools prepared their projects to create a comfortable educational environment in their native educational institutions. “Public budget for children’s dreams” is implemented as part of the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE project.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

According to Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the regional council, the enemy fired missiles at Dnipro at night. One of them was downed by the air defence forces, the rest of the missiles hit the city’s infrastructure.  10 people were wounded. A fire broke out as a result of the strike. 10 facilities, 2 high-rise buildings, 3 buses, 5 cars and 1 truck, 15 kiosks, a pipeline and a gas pipeline were damaged. During the day, russians attacked Nikopol region three times. They shelled Nikopol twice with artillery and attacked Marhanets community with a drone.

The aftermath of the russian attack

An 18-metre-long patriotic mural was created by local artist Anastasia Shcherbak at a Kryvyi Rih enterprise. It depicts Ukrainian soldiers with an archangel behind them. The mural is about 18 metres high and covers 115 square metres.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​The exhibition of photographer Kostiantyn Revutskyi’s work includes 25 photographs depicting the aftermath of the missile attack on the city of Vinnytsia on 14 July last year.

The second charity marathon, “One Million for the Armed Forces from Vinnytsia residents”, raised two million hryvnias for kamikaze drones. It is also known that at the last marathon, the benefactors managed to raise more than UAH 2 million, which was used to purchase thermal imaging sights, four Mavic drones,  and 10 Bandera Power drones.

Poltava oblast

According to Dmytro Lunin, Head of the Poltava Regional Military Administration, during the full-scale invasion, russia has attacked Poltava oblast with 111 missiles and 37 drones. 

UNICEF has delivered ambulances for newborns to Poltava. The ambulances are equipped with specialised equipment  to provide emergency care to mothers and babies on the road.

Cherkasy oblast

According to Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Military Administration, water supply restoration continues in Smila after the russian missile strike. As of 24 August, water is being supplied to several districts of the city on schedule. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to Yuriy Malashko, Head of Zaporizhzhya Regional Military Administration, the russian army fired 90 times at towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia region over the past day, 23 August. It carried out air strikes on Orikhov, fired at Chervone, Robotyne, Stepnohirsk, Lukyanivske and Novodarivka with multiple rocket launchers. They also used artillery in Gulyaypol, Zaliznychne, Malynivka, Levadne, Novodarivka, Kamianske and Stepove. 

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in the temporarily occupied Melitopol, Zaporizhzhiaoblast, russians have turned a sanatorium into a field hospital, where about 100 wounded occupants are being treated. 

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration said that new housing has been built for IDPs who were forced to leave their homes because of the fighting. The reconstruction took place on the basis of an outpatient clinic in the community of Zaporizhzhia district. The premises have been overhauled, and the rooms have been equipped with furniture, appliances and everything necessary for comfortable living. Three families who evacuated from the danger zone have already moved in.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, during 23 August and on the night of 24 August, russian troops shelled Kutsurub and Ochakiv communities seven times. Buildings and an internet line were damaged. Three people were injured. 

Valentyna, Director of medical institution, said that as of 23 August, more than ten servicemen, who were injured during combat missions, are undergoing stationary rehabilitation in a hospital in Mykolaiv. A multidisciplinary brigade, including a psychotherapist, is working with each soldier. The soldiers receive medical and psychological assistance at the facility. In the first half of 2023, 102 servicemen underwent rehabilitation here. 

For the second year in a row, in the heroic Mykolaiv city, during the war, patriots have been celebrating a sacred holiday for every Ukrainian – the Independence Day. The missile terror failed to frighten Mykolaiv residents. To honour the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, as in all previous years, People’s Movement of Ukraine activists, participants of the Revolution of Dignity and patriotic citizens gathered at Taras Shevchenko monument. The event began with the national anthem of Ukraine. Then, the participants of the rally observed a minute of silence in memory of the Heroes who fell in the fight for Ukraine’s independence.

Odesa oblast

Today, Ukraine celebrated the 32nd anniversary of Independence Day and at one of Odesa’s cemeteries, a ceremony of laying flowers to the Cossack Cross honoured the memory of the Heroes who gave their lives to save the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Today, on the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, with the blessing of Metropolitan Ahafangel of Odesa and Izmail, as part of the #Good_Unites project, the team of Odesa Eparchy of Ukrainian Orthodox Church sent boxes of goods to the most difficult areas of the frontline, expressing their gratitude and support for the heroes, and also gave icons of the Kasperivska Icon of the Mother of God. This time, a record number of 10K cakes were sent to the defenders of Ukraine. Off-road vehicles were also sent to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

A separate infantry battalion is being formed in Odesa oblast from volunteers. Those wishing to join the battalion can apply to local recruitment centres.

A special redemption of the Mother Ukraine stamp dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of Ukraine’s independence took place in Odesa. The author of the artistic interpretation was Zinaida Kubar. The woman depicted the Motherland monument with the Ukrainian coat of arms on the shield and a red necklace around her neck. Behind the monument is a map of Ukraine. In addition to the stamps, Ukrposhta issued the First Day envelope, an unmarked art envelope, art postcards and a set of magnets. The stamps were printed in 600K copies.

Alla Stoianova, Director of the Department of Agricultural Policy, Food and Land Relations of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, stated that 7% of vineyards in Odesa oblast were damaged by russian shelling. She noted that about 70% of Ukraine’s vineyards are located in Odesa oblast, which is 23K hectares, producing about 260K tonnes of grapes.

Kherson oblast

At around 04:00, the russian army attacked a medical outpatient clinic in Komyshany near Kherson. Two rooms, the ceiling, the water supply system were damaged, and the roof was completely destroyed. There were no casualties. 

At around 11:00, the russian military shelled Kherson once again. One of the shells hit the roof of a private house in the centre of the city. There are three injured people, including a 7-year-old girl. She sustained injuries to her back, arm and leg. 

Near Shyroka Balka in Kherson oblast, a tractor driver working in a field came under russian fire. He died from his injuries.

the General Staff of Ukraine reported that Oover the past day,  russian troops carried out air strikes on Kherson, Beryslav, Odradokamyanka and Lvove, fired artillery at Osokorivka, Zolota Balka, Mykhailivka, Respublikanets and Burgunka. 

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that on August 23 the russian army fired 99 times at Kherson region. The shells hit a factory, an enterprise and a kindergarten in Kherson, an administrative building and a shop in Beryslavregion. Seven people were injured.

Oleh Ivanenko, head of the All-Ukrainian NGO Aspiration, covered 42 kilometres and 195 metres across the de-occupied territory of Kherson Oblast in 4 hours and 6 minutes. This result was marked by the Ukrainian Book of Records. The marathon was dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine.

Near Shyroka Balka in the Kherson oblast, a tractor driver working in a field came under russian fire. He died from his injuries.

Defence Forces of Southern Ukraine reported that on the Independence Day of Ukraine, the Ukrainian flag was raised in Kherson and launched to the temporarily occupied left bank. 

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

‘We Remember Our Heroes’ project was implemented in Volyn. The photos and names of all the soldiers who sacrificed their lives were placed on led screens in Lutsk on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day to honour the memory and support the families of all the residents of the Lutsk community who have perished in the war with the russia since 2014.

Zakarpattia oblast

On the Day of the National Flag, in the combat zone in Donetsk oblast, Viktor Mykyta, the head of Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration, awarded the Presidential insignia “For Defence of Ukraine” to Robert Brovdi, the commander of the aerial reconnaissance unit “Birds of Magyars”.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Prykarpattia oblast has received neonatal ambulances. At the request of the wife of the President of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) delivered 20 new neonatal ambulances to Ukraine for the country’s medical institutions.

Lviv oblast

Lviv MRA reported that Senior Lieutenant Andriy Demkiv was awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, III degree, in the Brody community. 

Posthumously, the Orders of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi, III class, were presented to the families of our defenders – Oleksandr Zubach and Vladyslav Hulov. Oleksandr once took part in peacekeeping operations in Congo and Liberia. Vladyslav – in the Congo. Both Heroes were killed while performing combat missions in Donetsk oblast.

In the Skole Beskydy National Nature Park, a path in memory of Yuriy Ruf was marked. It starts at the Kamianka waterfall and runs for 12 kilometres with four thematic stops. By scanning QR codes, you can learn about the life and work of the defender. 

In Chervonohrad, stands with the names of the fallen soldiers – Honorary Citizens of the Chervonohrad community who have been fighting for Ukraine’s independence since 2014 – were installed on Vicheva Square. The information stands were set up by representatives of the Chervonohrad Warrior’s House on the initiative of the Chervonohrad City Council. There will be 134 stands on the square.

The Concept of Support for Defenders of Ukraine is being implemented in Lviv oblast. It includes social security, financial, legal, medical and psychological assistance, and training. The Lviv oblast is establishing cooperation with the German state of Saarland, in particular in matters of economic cooperation and cultural exchange.

Three vehicles for the Armed Forces of Ukraine were purchased by residents of the Zhovtantsi community.  The vehicles will be delivered to the 38th Separate Mechanised Brigade, where a resident of Zhovtantsi village is defending the country, the 110th Separate Tank Brigade, where a resident of Remeniv village serves, and the 33rd Separate Mechanised Brigade, where two of our countrymen from Velyke Kolodno and Pechikhvosty villages are carrying out their mission. 

95 food parcels for the elderly and families in difficult life circumstances were provided by employees of the Social Service Centre of Zymnovodivka Village Council. 

The day before, in the village of Tuchapy, Horodok community, a renovated grave was consecrated at the old cemetery at the burial site of OUN-UPA soldiers. This is a memorial sign with the names of local insurgents and local residents who were killed by the russian-bolshevik occupiers.

Rivne oblast

Rivne RMA reported that more than 160 donors, including military personnel and employees of ODEK in Orzhiv, arrived at the Rivne Blood Service on Independence Day. 

Ternopil oblast

On the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day, Volodymyr Trush, Head of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration, awarded medals to military and law enforcement personnel.

On the day of the National Flag, Ivan Vyhivskyi, Head of the National Police of Ukraine, visited Ternopil oblast. During the visit, 3 police cars were handed over to the communities of the region.

The Ternopil Defence Council provided a drone, insignia an gifts, T-shirts  to the 44th separate artillery brigade. Certificates for apartments were also handed over to the soldiers.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Oleksandr Samchyshyn reported that a car was delivered to one of the military units. A weather station was delivered for snipers. Medical kits and turnstiles for a combat unit in the South.  The collection of FPV drones continues.

On 24 August, a new stamp presented by Ukrposhta “Ukraine-Mother” was redeemed in Khmelnytskyi oblast.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi Regional Military Administration reported the allocation of UAH 18.8 million from the regional budget to provide proper conditions for the rehabilitation and treatment of Ukrainian defenders.

Bukovyna volunteers from Nedoboivtsi, Hlyboka, Vashkiv and Selyatyn communities carry on working in Kherson region within the framework of the “Side by Side” initiative. The first stage involves the restoration of 35 residential buildings. Several houses already have new roofs.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Anthony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State congratulated Ukraine and said thatAugust 24th is a day of celebration of Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and democracy and a day of pride in the country’s strength and resilience. 

Maia Sandu, Moldovan President,  congratulated Ukraine on its Independence Day and expressed her “firm support”.

Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament,  congratulated all Ukrainians and said that freedom, sovereignty, independence is what Ukraine deserves, what Europe supports, and what the future holds.

Josep Borrell, Spokesman for the European Union’s chief diplomat, said that Ukrainians are fighting for their  freedom and bravely defending the values Europe shares. Europe stands firmly behind you. He sees the future of Ukraine and Europe together.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission,  congratulated Ukrainians and said that Ukraine’s strength is in its people.

Melinda Simmons, British Ambassador to Ukraine, also recorded a greeting in Ukrainian and stressed that “independence is a choice for the future”.

Bridget Brink, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine,  began her greetings in Ukrainian and said that the United States supports the Ukrainians’ fight for their freedom.

Canadian diplomats said in a video greeting that their country was one of the first to recognise and support Ukraine as a free and sovereign state.

Gael Weissiere, the new French Ambassador to Ukraine, congratulated Ukraine and wrote that he was proud to be in Ukraine on Independence Day.

Paul Grod, President of the Ukrainian World Congress, also expressed his congratulations on Ukraine’s Independence Day. He said that independence is the choice of the strong, the choice of the dignified, the choice of the free,” 

“Freedom, sovereignty, independence. This is what Ukraine deserves, what Europe supports, what the future holds,” tweeted Roberta Mecola, President of the European Parliament. 

Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor, congratulated the Ukrainians and said, that today Ukrainians celebrate the independence and freedom of their people. These are the very principles that entire country is defending in your brave fight against russia’s brutal aggression. 

Sauli Niinistö, Finnish President, wrote Finland’s support for Ukraine remains unwavering as you courageously continue to defend your freedom. They admire your courage and your strength.

“Dear Ukrainian friends, on your Independence Day, the EU stands with you. You are a member of our European family, and your future is with us. Glory to Ukraine,” wrote Charles Michel, President of the European Council.

Kyiv hosted the third International Crimean Platform Summit, dedicated to the future of the temporarily occupied Crimea and security in the Black Sea. The main statements made by the summit participants:

The West will not repeat its previous mistakes in responding to russia’s annexation of Crimea – Maloney.

British Foreign Secretary said that Ukraine offers democracy, while russia offers tyranny.

The EU will never recognise russia’s attempts to change the status of Ukraine’s territories, Michel says.

Georgian President said that the Black Sea must not be left under russian control.

Portuguese President calls on russia to immediately withdraw its troops from Crimea

Trudeau: Russia has turned Crimea into a military base.

Long-term peace is impossible without returning control over Crimea to Ukraine, – Nausėda.

Andrzej Duda said that moscow must return all the seized territories of Ukraine – there can be no concessions.

Baykar Makina donated a Bayraktar TV2 strike UAV to Ukrainian reconnaissance men on Independence Day.

UNITED24 ambassadors congratulated Ukrainians on Independence Day. Catherine Winnick, Scott Kelly, Michel Azanavicius, Liev Schreiber, Ivanna Sakhno, Misha Collins, Andriy Shevchenko, Oleksandr Usyk, Mark Strong, and Timothy Snyder read Volodymyr Sosiura’s poem “Love Ukraine”.

Norway will provide Ukraine with F-16s and become the third NATO country to provide Ukraine with F-16 combat aircraft. Jonas Gahr Støre, Norwegian Prime Minister  pays an official visit to Ukraine.

Fumio Kishida, Japanese Prime Minister, speaking online at the International Crimean Platform summit, reported that Japan will provide up to $7 billion in aid to Ukraine. 

Grant Shapps, UK Secretary of State for Energy Security, arrived in Kyiv with British aid to the Ukrainian energy sector: Britain has provided £200 million and 750 tonnes of equipment. Herman Halushchenko, Ukrainian Energy Minister posted this on Facebook.

Gitanas Nausėda, Lithuania President, announced that next month, Lithuania will provide Ukraine with additional NASAMS launchers. 

Taiwan will allocate over UAH 18 million to rebuild a sports school in Bucha. The building was destroyed during the full-scale invasion of Kyiv region by russian troops.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine,  met with U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal, Lindsey Graham and Elizabeth Warren. The parties discussed the situation on the frontline and the priority issue of further strengthening Ukraine’s defence capability.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Katalin Novak, President of Hungary  to discuss the development of bilateral relations.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of Portugal. They discussed defence and security cooperation. Portugal confirmed its readiness to join the training of Ukrainian pilots and engineers on F-16 aircraft. 

Yevhen Polyakov, Deputy director of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning at Mykolaiv City Council, said that Martin Maurice Henri Duplantier, French architect will design a public space in the centre of Mykolaiv. The design work is being carried out without the involvement of budget funds.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Presidential award “National Legend of Ukraine” to Fuminori Tsuchiko, a Japanese volunteer who moved to Kharkiv after the start of the full-scale russian invasion and is now feeding people free lunches in Saltovka.

Google congratulates Ukrainians on Independence Day: today’s doodle is dedicated to Ukrainians. The doodle was created by Ukrainian artist Polina Doroshenko.

Ukrainians held demonstrations in more than 80 cities in 32 countries as part of the global Independence Day campaign.
