It has been the 1082nd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression.

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 9 February, there were 64 combat engagements in the frontline. Ukrainian defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the line and disrupting the russians’ plans. At the same time, the occupiers continue to focus their efforts on Pokrovsk and Kursk. 

The border areas of Ukrainian settlements suffered from russian artillery shelling, including Pokrovka, Novodmytrivka, Shevchenkove, Velyka Pysarivka in Sumy oblast; Tymofiivka, Klynova-Novoselivka, Vidrodzhenivske in Kharkiv oblast; Bleshnia, Kostobobriv in Chernihiv oblast. 

Towards Kharkiv, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled one attack by enemy troops near Vovchansk, and another firefight is still ongoing. In addition, the enemy launched an airstrike with unguided missiles near Nesterne. 

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried to advance to Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Bohuslavka, Petropavlivka and Zahryzove four times during the day. 

Towards Lyman, the aggressor increased the number of attacks to six. He attacked near Zelenyi Hai, Novoserhiivka, Yampolivka and Novoliubivka. One firefight is still ongoing. 

Towards Kramatorsk, our defenders repelled two occupiers’ attacks in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar. 

Towards Toretsk, the enemy tried to advance five times in the vicinity of Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. Two firefights are currently underway. 

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy started clashes of varying intensity 26 times. Ukrainian defenders repelled 22 enemy attacks in the areas of Zelene Pole, Vodiane Druhe, Yelizavetivka, Promin, Pishchane, Udachne, Novooleksandrivka, Andriivka and Dachne. Four firefights are currently ongoing. The enemy dropped two aerial bombs on Zvirove and Pokrovsk. 

Towards Novopavlivka, fierce fighting continues. Near Kostiantynopol, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks during the day, and two more combat engagements are still ongoing. 

Towards Huliaipole, Huliaipole and Chervone came under attack from aircraft, while Novosilka was hit by unguided aerial missiles.

In the Orikhiv, the vicinities of Piatikhatky and Kamianske were attacked by UAVs.

Towards Kherson, the enemy did not conduct any active operations. 

In Kursk oblast, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 invaders’ attacks, and seven engagements are still ongoing. In addition, the enemy made 233 artillery attacks, including four from multiple launch rocket systems. 

There were no significant changes in the situation in other areas. 

Ukrainian troops are depleting the enemy along the entire frontline and in the rear.


Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defence of Ukraine, announces that Ukraine is launching the Drone Line project that will scale up the most effective unmanned systems in the Land Forces and the State Border Guard Service.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that this week, russia launched more than 1,260 bombs, nearly 750 attack drones and more than 10 missiles of various types at the territory of Ukraine. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

The General Staff reports that towards Kharkiv, Ukrainian defence forces repelled one attack by russian troops near Vovchansk, another firefight is ongoing as of 16:00.

russians launched an air strike with unguided bombs in the area of Nesterne, and artillery shelling in Tymofiivka, Klynova-Novoselivka and Vidrodzhenivske.

Towards Kupiansk, occupiers tried to advance to Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Bohuslavka, Petropavlivka and Zahryzove four times.

Towards  Lyman, russian troops attacked six times in the area, in particular near Zelenyi Hai and Novoserhiivka. One firefight is ongoing

Towards Kharkiv, two enemy attacks were repelled near Vovchansk.

Towards Kupiansk, eight occupiers’ attacks took place yesterday. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Zahryzove and Petropavlivka.

Shelling

At around 17:00, the enemy attacked Derhachi community. As a result of the strike, 10 private residential buildings and a power line were damaged, and 5 settlements cut off from electricity: Slatyne, Prudianka, Tsupivka, Dubivka, Nova Kozacha, affecting about 1902 power consumers.

Viktor Kovalenko, head of the community, says that at 16:58, russian aviation fired three anti-aircraft missiles at an open area near the village of Udy in Zolochiv community.

The day before, at 22:22, the enemy attacked Bohodukhiv region, Vodiane village. The shelling destroyed an administrative building. The glazing of the windows was damaged.

At 17:40, the enemy attacked Kupiansk region, the village of Velykyi Burluk. An empty grain storage tank was damaged as a result of UAV shelling.

At 13:09, the enemy attacked Kupiansk region, Osynove village. UAV attack. There were no casualties. 

At 09:15 the enemy attacked Kupiansk. A car was damaged as a result of the shelling of a Molniya UAV.

Other

Four people remain in Lyptsi in northern Kharkiv oblast at the end of January 2025. The frontline village was hit by massive russian attacks after an attempted offensive in May 2024. The centre of the village, which russians tried to occupy and then bombarded with air strikes, was destroyed.

The Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 have officially started in Canada. The Ukrainian team includes two Kharkiv residents – Roman Poltavets and Mykhailo Tarasenko.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

 The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that russian troops again increased pressure towards Pokrovsk. The occupiers attacked Ukrainian positions 54 times yesterday, in particular near Yelizavetivka, Lysivka, Shevchenko, Udachne, Nadiivka, Novooleksandrivka and Dachne, while the previous day there were almost half as many attacks in this area – 30.  

Dmytro Zaporozhets, Spokesman for Luhansk military operation, says that Ukrainian troops stopped 12 attacks towards Novopavlivka near Kostiantynopil.  The Ukrainian command is preparing to defend the town of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk oblast as the defence forces withdraw from Chasiv Yar. The primary task of the Ukrainian army in the area is to defend and maintain control over Chasovyi Yar.

Bohdan Petrenko, Head of the communications department of the 48th separate artillery brigade, informs that towards Velyka Novosilka, russian troops conducted a mechanised assault with two convoys of vehicles, and after a failed attempt sent more convoys the next day. All of it was destroyed. This time, the dynamic tank defence was welded onto a ‘grill’, a mesh that is supposed to protect against drones.

Dmytro Zaporozhets, Spokesman for Luhansk military operation, says that the russian army continues to attack the positions of the Ukrainian military in Toretsk, Donetsk oblast. The occupiers have defined routes to attack the Defence Forces.

Shelling

The State Emergency Service in Donetsk region reports that russian troops attacked rescuers in Donetsk oblast with an FPV drone as they were returning from rescue operations.

The russian army shelled Kostiantynivka twice in one day.  Serhiy Horbunov, Head of the RMA, says that at around 4am, russian troops shelled Kostiantynovka with aircraft. The occupiers damaged 14 private houses, three cars, a gas pipeline and power lines. Later, the occupants fired at residential buildings with cannon artillery.

The police recorded 3,395 enemy attacks on the frontline and the residential sector. 

Seven localities came under fire: the towns of Kostiantynivka, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Toretsk, the village of Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, and the villages of Hryshyne and Ivanopillia.

russians attacked Kostiantynivka with two FAB-250 aircraft bombs and artillery, injuring a civilian. 22 private houses, power lines, and a gas pipeline were damaged.

As a result of hostile strikes in Pokrovsk, 4 people were injured, 4 apartment buildings, an outbuilding and a car destroyed. 

An airstrike damaged a house in the village of Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka, and 6 private houses in Hryshyne.

The occupiers shelled Ivanopillia with artillery, destroying 2 houses and a gas pipeline.

Other

In Kramatorsk, veterinarians of the municipal service for maintenance and treatment of animals have performed more than three thousand surgeries in two years. About two dozen cats live in the service’s premises.

Luhansk oblast

The RMA reports that occupiers were pressing in two frontline areas. ‘In the Liman sector – near Novoyehorivka. Towards Siverskiy, in Bilohorivka, where the russians made four attempts to advance. The enemy tried to shoot at Ukrainian fortifications eight times from artillery systems. They sent 197 unmanned aerial vehicles there.

Graduates of medical institutions in the ‘lpr’ will be obliged to work for three years in their field. If the law is passed, those who refuse to work will face a fine of twice the cost of training from 1 September 2026.

Perm (the rf) is cutting aid for the exemplary reconstruction of Siverskodonetsk. While last year russians reported on 15 painted high-rise buildings and other facilities, in 2025 they promise only 12. There are no major repairs planned – only the replacement of windows, radiators, and roofs.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The RMA reported that at night, the enemy carried out a massive attack by UAVs in Kyiv oblast. The alert lasted over 11 hours. In the Obukhiv district, the wreckage of one of the drones fell on a construction site, damaging the facade of an unfinished residential building. There were no civilian casualties.

On 8 December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Giuseppe Cavo Dragonet, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, who made his first foreign visit to Ukraine in this position.

The KCMA informed that this winter, Kyivteploenerho has additionally equipped boiler houses in six more districts of the capital with high-capacity generators. Generators with a capacity of 600 kW to 2 MW were installed in boiler houses of Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Solomianskyi, Obolonskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

In Kyiv, an event was held on European Square to support Ukrainian soldiers who were held captive by russia and went missing at the front. Every weekend, relatives and friends of the prisoners, as well as concerned Kyiv residents, gather at different locations to remind the authorities and society of those who defended the country and are now suffering from hunger and torture in captivity.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Department of Culture and Tourism of the RMA reported that in the nearly three years of full-scale war in Zhytomyr oblast, russian strikes have damaged 52 cultural sites, including museums, libraries, cultural centres and architectural monuments. Two more – a village club and a 19th-century church – were destroyed entirely. The total amount of damage exceeds UAH 20 million.

The Department of Regional Development of the regional administration informed that since the beginning of the full-scale war in Zhytomyr oblast, the russian army has damaged 4,840 buildings. Of these, 207 buildings were completely destroyed. Among the destroyed buildings, 80.7% were residential buildings. Damage was registered in 29 territorial communities.

Sumy oblast

 Artem Kobzar, the Mayor of the City reported that in the evening of 9 February, the russian army targeted the industrial zone of Sumy by a missile. There were no casualties or injuries. 

Valentyna Nazarenko, Head of Romny Regional Military Administration informed that during the night in Romny community, at approximately 1:20am, a UAV of Geran-2 type fell, damaging three houses. A coordination centre has been established at the impact site to address the aftermath.

In Sad community, as a result of a UAV attack, a summer house and its adjacent area were damaged. In Romny community, two private houses were damaged.

The RMA reported that during night and morning, on 9 February, russians carried out 10 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 12 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Sad, Yunakivka, Khotin, Bilopillia, and Romny communities. The enemy attacked the communities by a UAV (2 explosions), an FPV-drone (1 explosion), launched GABs (6 explosions), and fired artillery shells (3 explosions).

Anti-aircraft guns shot down 11 enemy UAVs of “Shahed” type in the sky over Sumy Oblast. Since the beginning of 2025, 354 enemy drones have been destroyed by the oblast’s air defense units.

According to the RMA, during the last day, russians carried out 76 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 101 explosions: FPV-drone strikes (25 explosions), GAB launches (7 explosions), explosive devices dropped from UAVs (35 explosions), mortar attacks (28 explosions), and artillery shelling (9 explosions) were carried out.

The attacks targeted 12 communities: Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropilia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Esman, Shalyhyne, Shostka, Seredyna-Buda, Khutir-Mykhailivskyi, and Svesa communities.

In Khotin community, due to russian strikes, one person was injured and houses were damaged.

As a result of the shelling in Velyka Pysarivka community, two private houses, the adjacent area, and a car were damaged. Additionally, private houses in Yunakivka community were also damaged.

In the evening of 8 February, the russian army launched a drone strike on Shostka. The impact occurred at a civilian production facility, with additional damage to a healthcare facility and approximately 10 private residential houses.

According to the North Operational Command, in Seredyna-Buda, as a result of russian shelling on 8 February, critical infrastructure facilities were damaged. Two attacks were recorded in the community – one involving mortar fire and the other involving the dropping of explosive devices from UAVs.

Sumy branch of the gas utility service informed that in Sumy oblast, due to bombardment by GABs, 539 households in Khrapivshchyna villages, Nova Sich villages, and Korchakivka villages, as well as in the settlements of Ivolzhanske and Kiianytsia in Sumy Region, have been left without gas.

Sumy Regional Police reported that as a result of the shelling, one person was injured, and damage was sustained to two multi-storey residential buildings, nine private houses, a garage, two cars, a farm building, a shop, utility premises, a transformer, and other elements of civilian infrastructure.

Chernihiv oblast

According to the Regional Administration of the North Operational Command, in Chernihiv oblast, a mobile fire group together with a volunteer formation from Chernihiv City Territorial Community destroyed a russian drone.

The State Border Guard Service reported that throughout 8 February, the russian army attacked 11 villages in three border communities of Chernihiv oblast.

Novhorod-Siverskyi community: 14 mortar strikes, 5 explosive device drops from UAVs, 2 FPV-drone strikes.

Semenivka community: 6 FPV-drone strikes, 12 explosive device drops from UAVs, 4 artillery strikes, 15 mortar strikes.

Snovsk community: 6 explosive device drops from UAVs, 2 mortar strikes.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that at night, the enemy attacked Nikopol region  twice with artillery. The occupants were targeting Nikopol and Chervonohryhorivka community. A fire broke out. Three private houses, a gas pipeline, 4 outbuildings were damaged, and one more was destroyed. 

About two dozen attacks per day – the occupiers again terrorised Nikopol region. They used artillery, kamikaze drones and dropped ammunition from drones. Four people were injured as a result of enemy attacks. In Nikopol, men aged 39 and 41 were wounded. One of them was hospitalised in serious condition. Men aged 30 and 76 in the Marganetska community were also injured. They were provided with all the necessary medical care. The occupants targeted Nikopol, Marhanets, Myrove and Pokrove communities. A multi-storey building, a lyceum, 10 private houses, 4 outbuildings, a petrol station, cars, an administrative building, gas pipelines, power lines and infrastructure were damaged. According to the updated information, this morning the occupants struck Novopavlivka community of Synelnykove district with a multiple rocket launcher. Nine private houses were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​In the week from 3 to 9 February 2025, it became known about the deaths of 23 defenders from Vinnytsia oblast.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, said that the Air Armed forces were working in Kirovohrad oblast at night. 

In the centre of Kropyvnytskyi, a peaceful action ‘Don’t be silent, captivity kills’ was held in support of missing and captured soldiers.

Poltava oblast

Adaptive clubs called ‘Active Parks  Unstoppable’ have started operating in Poltava oblast. They were organised on the basis of gyms. Military personnel, veterans and their families can go in for sports free of charge.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that at night, defenders shot down 4 russian UAVs in Cherkasy oblast. 

In Cherkasy, relatives of captured and missing defenders gathered for the weekly action ‘Don’t be silent  — captivity kills!’.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 9 February, the russian army attacked Stepnohirsk, striking the settlement 11 times. Eight private houses were reported damaged.

Yesterday, the occupiers launched 342 attacks on 11 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy conducted 23 airstrikes on Mariivka, Stepnohirsk, Huliaipole, and Mali Shcherbaky. 163 UAVs of various types targeted Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Five MLRS attacks struck Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, and Novodarivka. Additionally, 151 artillery strikes hit Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Omelnyk, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. There were 20 reports of damage to apartments, private houses, and vehicles. Two adults and two children were injured in an enemy attack on Huliaipole.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Zaporizhzhia oblast reported that on 8 February, russian shelling caused three fires in the region. Residential buildings in Huliaipole and Orikhiv caught fire, but rescuers extinguished them.

Positional battles continue towards Zaporizhzhia. The analytical report by the U.S.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) as of 8 February stated that no confirmed changes to the front line were recorded, and russian forces did not advance.

Mykolaiv oblast

During the night of 9 February, air defense forces destroyed two Shahed-131/136 UAVs in Mykolaiv oblast.

Yesterday, 8 February, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community twice with FPV drones and shelled it once with artillery. No casualties were reported.

On 9 February, a remembrance event for captured and missing soldiers took place in Mykolaiv. Families and loved ones of the defenders, as well as concerned citizens, attended the gathering. Approximately 270 people participated in the event.

Odesa oblast

As of 6:00am on 9 February, one enemy carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles was present in the Black Sea, with a total salvo capacity of up to four missiles. There were six enemy ships in the Mediterranean Sea, including two carriers of Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 22 missiles.

Over the past day, one vessel passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea in russia’s interest, while three more ships entered the Azov Sea.

Kherson oblast

Around 4:30pm, russian forces attacked Kherson using a UAV. The enemy drone crashed into the apartment of a 66-year-old woman, causing her multiple injuries, including a blast injury, traumatic brain injury, concussion, and shrapnel wounds to her abdomen and hand.

Yesterday, russian shelled Mykhailivka, Tiahynka, Novoraisk, Beryslav, Chervonyi Maiak, Poniativka, Novoberyslav, Dudchany, Mylove, Shliakhove, Blahovishchenske, Mykilske, Stanislav, Veletenske, Prydniprovske, Sadove, Antonivka, Bilozerka, Zelenivka, Havrylivka, Vesele, Zolota Balka, Ivanivka, Kizomys, Kozatske, Komyshany, Lvove, Mykolaivka, Molodizhne, Monastyrske, Novooleksandrivka, Odradokamianka, Tokarivka, Fedorivka, Chornobaivka, and Kherson city. The attacks damaged five apartment buildings, 24 private houses, a warehouse, an agricultural facility, a garage, and a private vehicle. Five people, including one child, were injured due to the russian aggression.

Ukraine’s Southern Defense Forces continued to strike enemy positions, fire sites, and rear areas. Over the past day, russian losses amounted to 28 personnel, three mortars, 14 vehicles, and armored vehicles, one anti-tank missile system, seven Shahed-136 attack drones, three reconnaissance UAVs (Zala and Supercam), one boat, one surveillance camera, 12 UAV control antennas, four communication antennas, two Starlink terminal antennas, and one ammunition storage site. Ukrainian forces also destroyed or damaged 46 enemy bunkers/shelters and three observation posts.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

This night the oblast was attacked by a hostile UAV. There were no casualties or injuries. The infrastructure was also not damaged. All services are operating normally.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA, together with Hungarian partners, organized a winter vacation abroad for 200 children of Ukrainian military personnel in February. Children from Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia oblasts rested in two shifts in one of the Hungarian cities.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 40 FPV drones to the 116th Separate Mechanized Brigade thanks to the budget funds.

Lviv oblast

A memorial plaque was unveiled in Drohobych region in memory of fallen defender Taras Stasyshyn. The defender was killed on 26 April 2023 near Bakhmut, Donetsk oblast.

Oleg Vikonskyi, senior driver in the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade from Strii region, was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously). He was killed on 25 December 2022 in the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk oblast.

Rivne oblast

The alert in Rivne oblast lasted for almost 8 hours. This is the longest since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The oblast was subjected to a massive enemy air attack. The result of the work of the Air Defense Forces is the shooting down of 6 enemy targets. People and infrastructure were not injured. Relevant services are working at the scene of the shooting down.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil City Council reported that 8 defenders from the city will receive a one-time cash grant of UAH 15,000 for treatment and rehabilitation.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

At Khmelnytskyi NPP, the IAEA has begun work on assessing the safety of future units. According to Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the organization will help Ukraine with the safety part of the project if a decision is made to complete the construction of units №3 and №4 at Khmelnytskyi NPP.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi щидфіе and Botoіani county of Romania have signed a document on enhanced cooperation. The document, which has been in the works for almost 2 years, provides for close interaction and implementation of joint long-term projects in many areas: economy, agriculture, education and culture, healthcare, social protection, tourism and others.

The RMA reported that as part of the Mandrotherapy project, which is implemented by Chernivtsi RMA, 15 wounded soldiers visited Bukovina museums. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

A new package of support from the UK to implement the Centennial Partnership Agreement with Ukraine. Key areas of UK support: £3m for the supply of Ukrainian grain to Syria, £17m for innovative energy projects, £10m to support small and medium-sized businesses and £25m for social programs. Military aid will continue in 2024-2025 at the rate of £3bn per year.

Ihor Brusylo, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office, held a video conference with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ukrainian ambassadors to African, Asian and Middle Eastern countries, and the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN. They discussed the strategy for promoting Ukrainian initiatives at the UN and mechanisms for coordinating efforts to ensure support among countries of the Global South.

The next Rammstein will be held on 12 February under the chairmanship of Great Britain.
