On 24 May, the aggressor attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 61 times.
Artillery shelling of border areas continues. In Sumy oblast, the following settlements were affected: Rohizne, Bachivsk, Sopych, Ryzhivka, Bezsalivka, Buniakyne, Prohres, Neskuchne, and Yastrubshchyna; in Chernihiv oblast—Senkivka.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were five combat engagements, one of which is still ongoing. The enemy launched seven airstrikes, dropped 15 guided bombs, and conducted 46 shellings of settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops, three of which involved the deployment of multiple launch rocket systems.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units four times in the vicinity of Sheviakivka and Lyman, and towards Izbytske. One combat engagement is ongoing.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked twice in the vicinity of Kivsharivka and Kupiansk.
Towards Lyman, there were six attempts by the invaders to advance towards the settlements of Hrekivka, Makiivka, Novomykhailivka, Lyman, and Dibrova. Three combat engagements are ongoing.
Towards Sloviansk, the Defense Forces successfully stopped an attempt by the invaders to advance in the vicinity of Riznykivka.
Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy was repelled in the vicinity of Markove.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the invaders carried out nine attacks near Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, and Rusyn Yar. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers tried 17 times to push Ukrainian warriors from their positions in the vicinity of Vilne, Novyi Donbas, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Shevchenko, Pokrovsk, Hryshyne, Udachne, and Novopavlivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy advanced once in the vicinity of Sichneve.
Towards Huilaipole, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 14 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Myrne, Dobropillia, Vozdvyzhivka, Hirke, Zaliznychnhe, Huilaipilske, and Charivne.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian defenders stopped one enemy attack in the vicinity of Shcherbaky.
Towards Kherson, russian invaders attacked once in the vicinity of Bilohrudyi Island.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, towards Southern Sloboda, russian troops stormed the positions of Ukrainian units four times in the vicinity of Sheviakivka, Lyman, and Izbytske. One combat engagement was ongoing. Towards Kupiansk, the russian army attacked twice in the vicinity of Kivsharivka and Kupiansk.
The State Emergency Service of Kharkiv Oblast reported that the russians attacked Pechenihy community with a drone. The strike hit the territory of an inactive recreation center, causing a fire over an area of 300 square meters.
Andrii Kanashevych, Head of Kupiansk Regional Military Administration, reported that a man was killed in Senkove, Kurylovytsia community, as a result of a russian UAV strike on May 27.
The Khartia Corps reported that a defense-in-depth is being constructed towards Kharkiv. In particular, this includes an outer ring, three anti-tank ditches with a total length of 135,000 meters, a ring of tetrahedrons, 135,000 meters of barbed wire, and 90,000 meters of wire entanglements. The next stage of construction is the inner ring.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there were 317 combat engagements in the oblast. Towards Southern Sloboda, russian troops attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 11 times in the vicinity of Starytsia, Vovchansk, Prylipka, Izbytske and Ternova. Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian defenders stopped nine attempts by the russian army to advance near Kivsharivka, Nova Kruhliakivka, Novoiehorivka, Holubivka, and Pishchane.
Svitlana Kryvenko, Mayor of Berestyn, reported that following a blackout, water and electricity supply have been restored in all settlements of Berestyn community. The internet and communications are operating as usual, but street lighting will not be turned on for now.

Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that over the past day, nine settlements in Kharkiv oblast came under enemy fire. Two people were affected: a 62-year-old man in Kozacha Lopan, Derhachi community, was injured, and a 54-year-old man in Izium suffered an acute stress reaction. Medics also provided assistance to a 45-year-old man who had been injured as a result of shelling in Prudianka on May 26.
Kharkiv Regional Military Administration reported that russian troops deployed seven KAB guided bombs, three Geran-2 UAVs, two FPV drones, and 18 unidentified drones across Kharkiv oblast.
In Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Izium, Kharkiv, Lozova, and Chuhuiv regions, private houses, outbuildings, a post office branch, a garage, an apiary, cars, and power grids were damaged.
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 193 people over the past day. Since the point began operating, 36,494 people have been registered there.
The Regional Military Administration reported that over the course of a week, more than 84 hectares of territory were demined in Kharkiv oblast. Teams inspected over 32 hectares of agricultural land, a kilometer of gas pipelines, over seven hectares of forest land, nearly 400 meters of roads, and almost two kilometers of power lines. Additionally, 18 households were demined, 36,352 subscribers were reconnected to the power grid, and 945 explosive hazards were neutralized.
The Interregional Center for Humanitarian Demining and Rapid Response reported that on the territory of Zolochiv community, sappers recovered and destroyed an unexploded warhead from a russian Geran-2 strike drone.

According to Liubov Shyrokova, Head of the community’s Education Department, over the past year, approximately 200 children have left Zolochiv community due to russian aggression. Due to the security situation, schooling and most educational events in the community are conducted remotely. The only end-of-year school bell ceremony held in person was celebrated by the graduates and first-graders of one of the lyceums.
A branch of the non-governmental organization “Buhurt Sich” has begun operating in Kharkiv, focusing on the physical, social, and psychological rehabilitation of veterans through adaptive medieval combat. Within a month, around 50 people joined the free training sessions, including servicemen recovering from wounds, concussions, captivity, and amputations.

Donetsk oblast
According to the General Staff, the Defense Forces repelled more than 100 russian assaults and attacks on the frontlines of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts. Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian military forces stopped 66 attacks, and towards Kramatorsk—three attacks, where the occupiers pressed in the vicinity of Minkivka and Fedorivka Druha. Towards Kostiantynivka, russian troops are trying to infiltrate urban areas in groups of one or two fighters and wait for reinforcements; however, no stable established positions are currently recorded in the city.
Towards Pokrovsk, the russian army is accumulating artillery and camouflaging equipment in forest belts and settlements; according to the 7th Air Assault Forces Corps, between May 18 and May 27, the Defense Forces destroyed or hit about 35 artillery pieces within a radius of up to 20 km from Pokrovsk.
Vadym Liakh, Head of the City Military Administration, reported that on the morning of May 28, russian troops struck a sports club in Sloviansk twice with Geran-2 UAVs. The building of the sports complex and two adjacent high-rise buildings were damaged.
On May 27, police recorded 940 russian shellings along the frontline and residential sector of Donetsk oblast. Nine settlements were under fire: Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Sloviansk, Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka, Kindrativka, Pyskunivka, Pryvillia, and Shnurky. Thirteen civilian objects sustained damage, including seven residential buildings.
russian troops attacked Druzhkivka three times with FPV drones. A civilian was killed, and three private houses were damaged.
In Kindrativka, a person was injured as a result of an FPV drone strike. In Pyskunivka, a russian FPV drone hit a private house, injuring two residents.
Kramatorsk withstood seven strikes, including by drones. A private house and seven civilian cars were damaged.
The russian army dropped three KAB-250 guided bombs on Mykolaivka, destroying an apartment building.
In Sloviansk, an Italmas UAV damaged a private house. In Shnurky, a poultry farm was damaged.
A displaced couple from Donetsk has sheltered and is rehabilitating 20 cows from frontline territories on a farm in Zaporizhzhia oblast. In total, the Husakov farm now hosts 40 cows, half of which are recovering after living under shelling and occupation. According to Kateryna Husakova, it takes a long time for the animals to adjust to a peaceful life: they may refuse food and water, get startled by sudden sounds, and suffer from health issues caused by the experienced stress.

Mariupol City Council reports that russian occupiers in Mariupol have begun offering local residents who lost their homes temporary accommodation in apartments that the russians expropriated from other Mariupol residents who either fled the city or lost their documents during the siege in 2022.
Luhansk oblast
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defense Forces struck several targets in temporarily occupied Luhansk oblast. Ukrainian military forces hit command posts and warehouses in Sorokyne and Tsvitni Pisky, and also struck a Buk anti-aircraft missile system in the vicinity of Kadiivka.
Towards Lyman, Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 russian assaults in the vicinity of seven settlements, according to Oleksii Kharchenko, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration. In Luhansk oblast, the occupiers deployed MLRS, struck three times with automatic grenade launchers, twice with mortars, and directed six drones.
In the so-called “LPR,” a program was signed for the development of 28 anchor settlements where, according to the occupation authorities, 70% of the population resides. The program defines development directions and additional funding up to 2026; however, Sievierodonetsk and Rubizhne, which sustained significant destruction during the russian assaults in 2022, were not included in the list.
In Perevalsk in occupied Luhansk oblast, there is a shortage of doctors, which is why six medical professionals from Orenburg were temporarily sent there. They will work for only six days but are expected to examine around five thousand people—averaging 138 patients per doctor daily. The Regional Military Administration notes that even in towns that did not sustain significant destruction, the occupation authorities are unable to ensure normal access to medical care.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
According to the State Emergency Service of Kyiv, emergency repair work is ongoing at the ‘Kvadrat’ shopping centre in Lukyanivka following the russian attack on Kyiv on 24 May. Since yesterday, specialists from the Kyiv garrison have already dismantled 2,200 square metres of damaged facade elements at the shopping centre in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Work is being carried out both inside and outside the building. The emergency work is necessary to protect people from dangerous structures in the damaged building.

Around 30 museum exhibits have been recovered from the rubble of the National Museum ‘Chornobyl’ in Kyiv, which was damaged by a russian missile. Search operations are now in their third day following the attack. The museum reported that staff are continuing to clear the rubble and search for surviving artefacts amongst the concrete debris and structural remains,. Staff also found fragments of the missile that struck the building amongst the rubble.

According to the Regional Military Administration, to prepare for the next heating season and enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure in Kyiv oblast, 25 modular boiler houses are to be procured. The government has allocated over 251.8 million hryvnias from the reserve fund to implement these projects.
Zhytomyr oblast
According to ‘Northern Border. State Border Guard Service’, border guards from the 9th Border Guard Detachment named after the Sich Riflemen shot down a russian strike drone over Zhytomyr oblast during a russian air attack; the drone was heading towards civilian and critical infrastructure.
The Regional Military Administration reported that a comprehensive support system for veterans is being established. 115 specialists are already working to support war veterans and demobilised personnel, helping them navigate the process from obtaining status to employment, rehabilitation and adaptation. At 174 Access Points of the Centre for Administrative Services, veterans and their family members can access the necessary administrative services.
Construction is underway in Zhytomyr on a modern veterans’ centre, which will serve as a hub for comprehensive services, training, the development of veterans’ initiatives and communication within the veterans’ community. Veterans’ care centres are already operational in Zhytomyr, Berdychiv and Korostyshiv.
There are six mental health centres operating in Zhytomyr oblast. Healthcare facilities have made 595 beds available for restorative treatment for patients requiring rehabilitation.
In recent years, the oblast has received over 580 million UAH in state support, enabling 177 veteran families to purchase their own homes. In 2026, a further 300 million UAH is earmarked to provide housing for 131 families.
Sumy oblast
Sumy Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that at around 8am on 28 May, russian forces attacked two civilians by a drone as they were travelling along a field road in Velyka Pysarivka community, Okhtyrka region. A man and a woman were killed in the russian strike. Their identities are being established.
Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that two people were injured in an attack by two russian drones on civilian transport. A married couple, a 67-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman, were travelling in a civilian car through Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community. They were taking food to one of the border villages when the enemy carried out a double drone strike on the car. The injured are receiving assistance in hospital.
Serhii Kryvosheienko, Head of Sumy City Military Administration, said that on 28 May, impacts of russian UAVs were recorded in Kovpakivskyi region of Sumy, as well as in Stetskivka and Pishchane starosta region. russian strikes damaged a technical facility at a petrol station, windows and doors of a post office, a summer kitchen, and roofs and windows of private houses.
According to Mykola Noha, Mayor of Shostka, the enemy launched an air strike on Shostka community. The attack damaged 2 residential buildings, outbuildings and cars. A significant part of the community remains without electricity. Water is being supplied using alternative energy sources.
Sumyoblenerho reported that part of Sumy oblast remains without electricity due to enemy strikes on energy facilities.
Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that a child was affected in Sumy oblast as a result of enemy strikes over the past day. In Okhtyrka community, an 11-year-old boy had an acute stress reaction due to a russian drone attack. A 43-year-old man who was injured on 23 May in a russian drone strike on Bilopillia community also sought medical assistance.
Over the day, from the morning of 27 May to the morning of 28 May, russian forces carried out more than 60 attacks on 25 settlements in 15 territorial communities of the oblast. Most attacks were recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Over the day, air raid alerts in the oblast lasted 16 hours and 28 minutes.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️ in Velyka Pysarivka community, a private residential building was damaged;
▪️ in Bilopollia community, an apartment building was damaged;
▪️ in Komyshanka community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
▪️ in Krolevets community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
▪️ in Okhtyrka community, an apartment building was damaged;
▪️ in Esman community, a private household was destroyed;
▪️ in Znob-Novhorodske community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
▪️ in Hlukhiv community, a civilian infrastructure facility and a car were damaged;
▪️ in Shalyhyne community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
▪️ in Shostka community, a civilian infrastructure facility, residential buildings, outbuildings and cars were damaged;
▪️ in Yampil community, an educational facility was destroyed.
Over the day, local authorities, together with units of State Emergency Service, National Police and public organisations, evacuated 9 people from border communities.
According to Sumy Regional Military Administration in Sumy oblast, routes of some trains were changed to ensure the safety of passengers and railway workers amid constant russian attacks. Sumy Regional Military Administration, together with Ukrzaliznytsia JSC, the military and relevant services, worked systematically to restore direct connections between Sumy oblast and western regions of Ukraine while strengthening transport safety. More than UAH 87m. was allocated from the regional budget for the relevant works.
Chernihiv oblast
National Police in Chernihiv oblast reported that on 27 May, two farm workers were killed near one of the villages in Nizhyn region. It happened after the men found a russian UAV in a field and tried to dismantle it. The men sustained fatal injuries as a result of the detonation.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that a 39-year-old man injured on 27 May in an enemy strike on a village in Korop community is currently in Regional Hospital. He underwent surgery. The injured man worked as a tractor driver at a farming enterprise. A woman, an employee of one of the attacked enterprises, was killed in the attack. Farming facilities and machinery were damaged.


Chernihiv Border Detachment informed that on 27 May, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy carried out shelling by mortars (5 explosions) and tube artillery (4 explosions), struck by Shahed UAVs (2 explosions) and FPV drones (2 explosions), and dropped an explosive device from a UAV (1 explosion). Six settlements came under enemy fire.
According to the State Environmental Inspectorate in Chernihiv oblast, environmental damage caused by a UAV attack on a lyceum in Chernihiv amounted to more than UAH 2m. Lyceum No. 22 was damaged in a massive attack by russian drones on the city overnight on 19 April 2026. A UAV impact damaged the educational facility, caused a fire, and contaminated the adjacent area with debris and construction waste.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, announced that 12 additional block-modular boiler houses will be purchased for the needs of Chernihiv oblast as part of preparations for the next heating season. The government has already allocated the first tranche of funding for this, more than UAH 186.6m.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that the enemy shelled the regional centre, Marhanetsk, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske rural communities by artillery and drones. A private house, a gas station and a gas pipeline were damaged. As a result of a UAV attack in Pavlohrad, a high-rise building and a lyceum were damaged. In Bohdanivka community, a private house was damaged. Men aged 62 and 38, and a 69-year-old woman were injured.
In Marhanets, 10 people were injured due to artillery shelling, including 6 children: 4 girls and 2 boys. The enemy attacked the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Pokrovske rural and Myrove communities by drones and artillery. A fire broke out. 4 apartment buildings and 4 private houses, a garage, an enterprise, cars, a gas pipeline and infrastructure were damaged.
As a result of a UAV attack in Synelnykove, 2 women aged 70 and 89 were injured. Fires broke out. 3 private houses, 2 outbuildings and 2 cars were damaged. The enemy directed UAVs at Ternivka community.
Vinnytsia oblast
Vinnytsia Lyceums No. 16 and No. 23 handed over 2 more vehicles for the front line to the military. In total, since the beginning of the full-scale war, educational institutions of the community have already provided defenders with 62 vehicles and assistance worth more than UAH 44m.
Kirovohrad oblast
In Znamianka city, residents welcomed home Serhii Berehovyi, who had been released from russian captivity. The defender had spent almost 4 years in captivity. He was captured by russian forces on 12 April 2022, during the defence of Mariupol city, near the Azovmash plant.
Poltava oblast
According to Poltava Regional Military Administration, the fall of debris from an enemy UAV was recorded in Poltava oblast. Residential buildings and outbuildings were damaged.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that an 89-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man were injured as a result of a russian attack on Tarasivka village. The russian troops struck with an FPV drone, damaging private houses.
Referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 27 May, the Defence Forces repelled 44 russian attacks in Huliaipole and Orikhiv regions. In particular, russians attacked in the areas of the settlements of Rybne, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Zaliznychne and toward Nove Zaporizhzhia, Huliaipilske, Olenokostiantynivka, Staroukrainka, Pryvillia, Vozdvyzhivka, Sviatopetrivka, Hirke, Tsvitkove and Charivne.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 27 May, women aged 58 and 65 were injured as a result of attacks on Zaporizhzhia oblast. The russian forces carried out 689 strikes on 40 settlements of Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to Mykolaiv RMA, as a result of today’s drone attack on Mykolaiv, windows in a high-rise building were shattered, and tram lines were damaged.
During 27 May, combat operations were conducted in Mykolaiv oblast. As of the morning, no information about injuries or damage had been received. The russian troops struck Ochakiv community, preliminarily by a multiple launch rocket system.
Odesa oblast
Based on the information provided by Odesa RMA, at night, russia attacked the south of Odesa oblast by strike drones. As a result of the strike, UAVs hit a private residential house and an infrastructure facility. Windows in nearby houses were damaged. There were no casualties or injuries reported.
Kherson oblast
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, at around 7pm, russian occupiers attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by a drone. Due to the enemy strike, a 64-year-old woman sustained a blast injury and chest contusion.
At around 1:30pm, russians attacked the Tsentralnyi district of Kherson by a UAV. As a result of the drone attack, a 55-year-old man was injured. He sustained a mine-blast injury, concussion and acute stress reaction.
At around 12:30pm, russians attacked a woman in the central part of Kherson by a drone. The occupiers struck a 43-year-old resident who was walking down the street by a UAV. She sustained a blast injury and concussion.
A resident of Komyshany who had been injured the day before as a result of russian drone attacks on the settlement was reported injured. The 73-year-old woman sustained a mine-blast injury, acoustic barotrauma and concussion.
Tonight, 2 men came under russian shelling in Bilozirka. The men, aged 33 and 27, were diagnosed with mine-blast injuries and concussion.
A resident of Pryozerne who was injured during last night’s russian UAV attack was reported injured. An enemy drone struck the house where the 46-year-old woman was staying. She sustained a mine-blast injury and concussion.
2 women sought medical assistance as a result of yesterday’s russian attack on Korabelnyi district and a man injured in the attack on Dniprovskyi district. A woman and a child who were injured yesterday at around 5:30pm due to russian shelling of Korabelnyi district of Kherson were taken to hospital. The 49-year-old Kherson resident and an 8-year-old boy sustained concussions, blast injuries and closed traumatic brain injuries. The woman suffered a leg contusion.

Volyn oblast
In Lutsk, the construction of a critical infrastructure protection facility was agreed upon as part of a pilot project. Construction is planned on a municipally owned land plot on one of the streets of the regional center. The approximate area is 0.66 hectares.
Zakarpattia oblast
A delegation from the University of Nebraska Medical Center and the US National Strategic Research Institute (NSRI) visited the oblast. A meeting was held at Uzhhorod National University to discuss the prospects for cooperation between the two universities, as well as with medical institutions in the region.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
With funds from the XI charity auction, the 42nd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Hero of Ukraine Valerii Hudzys received 15 laptops; 15 EcoFlow Delta 3 charging stations; 26 inverter gasoline generators worth over UAH 1.9m.
Lviv oblast
As part of the Journey Therapy project, Lviv Regional Office for Sports, Youth and Tourism Department, together with DyvoKayak, organized a water trip for Ukrainian soldiers and their families. Over 20 participants covered a 14-km kayak route along the Styr River – from Berestechko to Kamintsi.
Rivne oblast
Representatives of the World Bank mission in Ukraine and the Council of Europe Development Bank in Ukraine worked in Rivne oblast. A working meeting with representatives of the RMA was held at the regional clinical hospital. The key topic of discussion was the reconstruction of the oldest building of the institution, built before World War II, and the creation of a modern palliative care department in its place.
Ternopil oblast
The 105th Brigade received 4 WHIRLPOOL washing machines, 4 СО-W01 projectors, 4 projector screens and 100 electrical cables from Ternopil community.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community has allocated financial assistance to 33 families of prisoners of war and missing persons. The total amount of assistance is over UAH 1.6m.
Chernivtsi oblast
Chernivtsi community has allocated funds to support the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine. The amount of assistance is UAH 21.5m.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The EU Council approved the seventh tranche of the Ukraine Facility for EUR 2.8bn and recalled the conditions for its receipt.
Ukraine and Sweden have signed a declaration on deepening defense cooperation, under which the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 16 Jas 39 C/D Gripen fighter jets. The aircraft are expected to be delivered in early 2027.
