On 29 May, the aggressor attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 60 times.
Artillery shelling of border areas continues. In Sumy oblast, the following settlements were affected: Ryzhivka, Bachivsk, Novovasylivka, Sopych, Ulanove, Volfyne, Iskryskivshchyna, and Rohizne; in Chernihiv oblast — Kliusy.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy conducted 32 shelling attacks on settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops, five of which involved the deployment of multiple launch rocket systems.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units four times in the vicinity of Starytsia and Lyman, and Ternova.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked the positions of the Defense Forces twice in the vicinity of the settlements of Kivsharivka and Novoplatonivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
Towards Lyman, Ukrainian warriors repelled three attempts by the invaders to advance near Drobysheve.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy tried to advance six times in the vicinity of Shcherbaky and Plavni. One combat engagement is currently ongoing.

Last night, a bioenergy power plant in Ivankiv, Kyiv Region, was partially destroyed as a result of a Russian attack, according to Oleksii Butenko, founder of the company Biogazenergo, who reported the incident on the morning of May 29. According to him, approximately $40 million had been invested in the facility. It is one of the largest biofuel power plants in Eastern Europe. The company intends to restore the damaged site.
Rescue workers have been dealing with the aftermath of an enemy strike carried out by Russian forces on May 24 for the fourth consecutive day, the Kyiv Regional Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported. The work is ongoing around the clock as emergency responders clear debris, dismantle damaged structures, and remove tons of construction waste from the area. A separate priority is the evacuation and preservation of surviving exhibits and documentation.

In Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi District, emergency responders have completed stabilization and safety work on a shopping center building damaged by Russian shelling, according to the Kyiv Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES). Over the course of three days, rescuers dismantled the building’s facade, including damaged cladding elements and windows. In total, structures covering an area of 2,900 square meters were dismantled and removed.
On May 28, members of the Kyiv City Council approved a draft decision to provide temporary housing for residents affected by Russian armed aggression, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced. The document предусматриes the temporary use of apartments managed by the municipal enterprise “Housing-Invest Financial Company” for accommodating affected citizens.
The 14th International Book Arsenal Festival opened in Kyiv on May 28. This year’s focal theme, “Carrying Your Freedom,” was introduced by its curator, journalist, human rights defender, and war veteran Maksym Butkevych. The festival will run through May 31 and features 240 events, including discussions, lectures, meetings with authors, book presentations, workshops, and performances.
Zhytomyr oblast
Six girls and seven boys from Zhytomyr who reported attempts by Russian intelligence services to recruit them were awarded certificates of appreciation and commemorative gifts. Despite provocations and pressure, the students refused to cooperate with Russian operatives and instead informed law enforcement authorities, according to the Zhytomyr Regional Police.
On May 28, the Ukrainian feature film Killhouse, a tactical action thriller directed by Lyubomyr Levytskyi, was screened at the Ukraina Cinema in Zhytomyr. The film, which combines elements of fiction filmmaking with depictions inspired by real combat operations, attracted local residents, government representatives, and members of the community.
Sumy oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported that four private households in Pushkarivka village were damaged in an attack by russia on Bytytskyi starosta region of Sumy community. UAVs of an unidentified type and an explosive object were also found at two locations in Sumy and in Velyka Chernechchyna starosta region. Explosive ordnance specialists worked at the sites, and the finds were neutralised.
Sumy Oblast Prosecutor’s Office informed that on 29 May, at about 5am, a 52-year-old man was injured when a russian attack UAV hit Shostka region. According to Regional Military Administration, this happened in Hlukhiv community. The man was hospitalised at a local hospital with burns.
The State Emergency Service reported that russian forces shelled Berezivka community overnight on 29 May. Private houses and outbuildings caught fire in two settlements as a result of the attack. Rescuers extinguished the fire.
Serhii Koretskyi, Chairman of the Board of Naftogaz, said that the enemy attacked several Naftogaz facilities in Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts at once. The attack lasted almost the entire day. russian forces struck one of the facilities in Sumy oblast again several hours later.
The Regional Military Administration informed that, as of the morning of 29 May, two civilians were killed and three more people were injured in enemy strikes in Sumy oblast over the past day.
In Khutir-Mykhailivska community, a 67-year-old man and a 65-year-old woman were injured after two russian drones attacked civilian transport.
In Velyka Pysarivka community, a 65-year-old man and a 69-year-old woman were killed when a russian drone hit civilian transport.
In Hlukhiv community, a 52-year-old man was injured in an enemy drone strike.
Over the day, from the morning of 28 May to the morning of 29 May 2026, russian troops carried out almost 80 attacks on 37 settlements in 18 territorial communities of Sumy oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Air-raid alerts in Sumy oblast lasted 21 hours and 6 minutes over the day.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
▪️in Sumy community, a private residential house, a civilian infrastructure facility, post office premises and a car were damaged;
▪️in Shostka community, civilian infrastructure facilities, private residential houses and outbuildings were damaged;
▪️in Myropillia community, a private residential house was damaged;
▪️in Velyka Pysarivka community, a private residential house, garage and utility premises, a tractor and a car were destroyed;
▪️in Lebedyn community, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;
▪️in Bilopollia community, a private residential house and a passenger car were damaged;
▪️in Berezivka community, a private residential house, a non-residential building and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
▪️in Hlukhiv community, a private residential house was damaged;
▪️in Khutir-Mykhailivska community, post office premises were damaged;
▪️in Seredyna-Buda community, residential houses and non-residential buildings were destroyed;
▪️in Shalyhyne community, private residential houses were destroyed;
▪️in Popivka community, non-residential premises were damaged.
Over the day, local authorities, together with units of State Emergency Service, National Police and civil society organisations, evacuated 13 people from border communities.
Evacuation from the border area is taking place under the constant threat of drone strikes. The previous day, police officers from White Angel special unit evacuated a woman and her daughter from Vilne village in Velyka Pysarivka community, and later transported to Okhtyrka the bodies of two people killed by a russian drone strike near Velyka Pysarivka.
Oleh Hryhorov, Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, said that more than 400 km of roads on different routes in Sumy oblast have already been protected with anti-drone nets. The work is being carried out in stages jointly with the military, communities and responsible services. More than UAH 110m. from regional and local budgets has been allocated for the construction of anti-drone corridors.
According to the Regional Military Administration, Sumy oblast received almost UAH 23m. from the state budget to provide housing for internally displaced persons. The funding is aimed at arranging housing in communities of Sumy oblast that host internally displaced persons and create proper living conditions for them.
Chernihiv oblast
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Regional Military Administration, reported that on 29 May, at about 1:15pm, russian troops struck near Smiach village in Novhorod-Siverskyi community by two UAVs. Agricultural machinery was damaged as a result.
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, said that overnight on 29 May, russian troops attacked Masheve village on the border of Chernihiv oblast by a Heran UAV. A fire broke out after the russian drone hit, completely destroying the local school building and property across its entire area. The scale of the destruction and the final consequences of the attack are being clarified.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, informed that over the past day, as of the morning of 20 May, russian forces attacked two regions of Chernihiv oblast by attack UAVs and FPV drones. In communities of Chernihivskyi region, a company and housing were damaged by strikes from Herbera drones. In Koriukivka region, FPV drones destroyed four houses in one village, with the homes burning down. In another village, a car and an outbuilding were damaged in a strike.
According to Chernihiv Border Detachment, during the day on 28 May, russian troops attacked four border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out 17 mortar strikes and eight FPV drone strikes. Six settlements came under enemy fire.

Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that a man was injured in Nikopol as a result of artillery shelling. Occupying forces also struck Marhanets, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske rural communities by drones and artillery. Two apartment buildings and four cars were damaged.
Private houses caught fire in Pokrovske and Vasylkivka communities as a result of UAV attacks. A car was damaged in Apostove community.
Six people were injured in Nikopol as a result of artillery shelling. A 55-year-old bus driver was hospitalised in serious condition. The enemy struck the regional centre, Marhanets, Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka and Pokrovske rural communities by drones and artillery. Six apartment buildings, a gymnasium, a bus, a lorry and infrastructure were damaged.
A bus, a car and a power line were damaged in Kryvyi Rih as a result of a UAV attack.
Vinnytsia oblast
A rally in support of missing and captured defenders was held in Yampil, Vinnytsia oblast. Participants came out with photographs and flags to support one another and remind people about their relatives.
Kirovohrad oblast
In Kirovohrad oblast, 48-year-old Volodymyr Reznichenko, who was released from russian captivity, was welcomed home. A reception was first held in Oleksandriia, then in Nova Praha, where the defender is from. He had spent 20 months in captivity and returned to the community after rehabilitation.
Poltava oblast
In Poltava oblast, Ukrainian defender Dmytro Yarish was welcomed after his release from captivity.
A meeting was held in Nedoharky village, Pishchanу community, with National Guard of Ukraine serviceman Dmytro Yarish, who returned home after a long period in captivity. He was released on 24 April 2026.

Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that overnight, the enemy attacked the regional center. Two women suffered shrapnel wounds to the face, legs, and chest. Four apartment buildings were damaged — windows were shattered and balconies were damaged. Non-residential buildings and premises were also damaged. One entrance section of a residential building was temporarily left without a gas supply.
Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that on 28 May, the occupiers launched 764 strikes on 44 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces carried out 22 airstrikes on Zarichne, Lisne, Liubytske, Yasna Poliana, Ternuvate, Boikove, Yuliivka, Shevchenkivske, Omelnyk, Mala Tokmachka, Huliaipilske, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Chervona Krynytsia, Mykilske, Yehorivka, Rivne, Dolynka, and Zhovta Krucha. 521 UAVs of various modifications (mostly FPV drones) attacked Zaporizhzhia, Bilenke, Tarasivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Huliaipilske, Hirske, Zelene, Varvarivka, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Tsvitkove, and Preobrazhenka. Two MLRS strikes targeted Charivne and Huliaipilske. 219 artillery strikes hit Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Hirske, Huliaipilske, and Staroukrainka. Authorities received 30 reports of damage to infrastructure, housing, and vehicles. Four people were injured as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia region and the regional center.
According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 29 May, the Defense Forces successfully repelled 14 enemy attacks near Dobropillia, Novе Zaporizhzhia, Vozdvyzhivka, Staroukrainka, Tsvitkove, and Charivne towards Huliaipole. Three clashes are ongoing. The enemy attempted six times to advance near the settlements of Shcherbaky and Plavni towards Orikhiv. One clash is currently ongoing. Over the past day, 28 May, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled 32 russian attacks towards Huliaipole front and two more towards Orikhiv.
During the night of 29 May, a blackout occurred for the sixteenth time at temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). According to NAEK Energoatom and the International Atomic Energy Agency, the facility was powered by diesel generators for about an hour until connection to the only remaining overhead power line was restored. The reason why the ZNPP lost power is unknown. The station is currently connected to the single 330 kV overhead line “Ferosplavna-1.”
The International Atomic Energy Agency also reported that on 27 May, temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant experienced the longest disruption of telephone and internet communications since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The plant was left without landline communication and internet access for about 12 hours. The outages occurred simultaneously with reports of an attack on Enerhodar, although the exact cause has not yet been established.
Mykolaiv oblast
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 28 May, the enemy attacked the region with Shahed-type UAVs. As a result of air defense operations and falling debris in Mykolaiv, the windows of apartment buildings, a car service station, and a non-residential building were damaged. The enemy also attacked Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities seven times with FPV drones. There were no casualties.
Odesa oblast
Odesa Regional Military Administration reported that overnight, the russian forces once again attacked Odesa oblast. About 4,000 consumers were left without electricity in the southern part of Odesa oblast due to damage to power lines.There were no casualties. In the waters of the Black Sea, enemy UAVs struck three merchant vessels flying the flags of Vanuatu, the Comoros, and Panama that were traveling through the Ukrainian maritime corridor. Fires broke out as a result of the strikes and were extinguished by the crews. On one of the vessels, two crew members, citizens of a foreign country, were injured.
On May 29, the third annual Black Sea Security Forum, which is the largest security forum in the Black Sea region, began in Odesa. This year, the event is taking place at Odesa National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. More than 1,200 participants from Ukraine, Europe, the United States, and other countries around the world are taking part in the forum. The main topics of discussion include security, political, and economic challenges in the Black Sea region, as well as issues of international support for Ukraine during the war.
Kherson oblast
Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that at approximately 13:30 russian occupiers struck Korabelnyi district of Kherson with artillery. Three people were injured.
In the morning, russians shelled Tsentralnyi district of Kherson with artillery. An 82-year-old woman suffered blast injuries and multiple shrapnel wounds, while a 45-year-old woman sustained blast injuries and a concussion.
At around 08:30, russians attacked Korabelnyi district of Kherson with a UAV. A 62-year-old man suffered blast injuries as well as shrapnel wounds to the head, torso, and limbs.
At approximately 06:00, russian forces attacked Korabelnyi district of Kherson with a drone. Three men sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds.
Kherson Regional Military Administration also reported that six civilians were injured as a result of previous russian attacks. The day before, a 70-year-old man in Komyshany came under enemy fire during the day, and on the evening of May 27, a 49-year-old woman was injured in Korabelnyi district of Kherson. Both victims were diagnosed with blast injuries, concussions, and acute stress reactions. As a result of another attack on Bilozerka on 28 May, a 51-year-old medical worker suffered blast injuries and a concussion. A resident of Komyshany who was injured during yesterday’s daytime shelling of the settlement also sought medical assistance. Two residents of Komyshany who came under russian shelling the previous morning sustained blast injuries, concussions, and acute stress reactions.
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, on 28 May, the russian forces attacked Antonivka, Zymivnyk, Komyshany, Pryozerne, Sadove, Bilozerka, Veletynske, Dniprovske, Zorivka, Kizomys, Novodmytrivka, Rozlyv, Romashkove, Tomyna Balka, Stanislav, Oleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Poniativka, Tokarivka, Beryslav, Zmiivka, Novoberyslav, Rakivka, Urozhaine, Shevchenkivka, Mylove, Novokairy, Zolota Balka, Chervone, Tiahynka, Vysoke, and the city of Kherson. As a result of the attacks, three apartment buildings, nine private houses, an Invincibility Center, a theater building, and private vehicles were damaged. Due to russian aggression, 13 people were injured, including one child.

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between Ivano-Frankivsk RMA and the Helsi Ukraine LLC. This partnership is aimed at developing digital medicine in the region and implementing modern services for patients, medics and medical institutions.
Lviv oblast
Lviv oblast will receive an additional 12 block-modular boiler houses. The Government has allocated over UAH 219.5m for this purpose. The boiler houses will allow for backup heat supply for communities and more stable operation of critical infrastructure.
Rivne oblast
Rivne oblast welcomed the 8th evacuation train this year. Another 19 people arrived from Donetsk oblast to the oblast, 4 of them with limited mobility. They were received by the communities of Sarny region – Dubrovytska, Rokytnivska, Klesivska, Stepanska and Mylyatska.
Ternopil oblast
A joint memorial service “The Light of Prayer in the Darkness of War” was held near the Memorial Stele “To the Soldiers Who Died for the Freedom of Ukraine” in Ternopil. During the prayer, we remembered every Ternopil soldier whose life was cut short by war in May of different years – from 2014 to today.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi community donated equipment worth UAH 3m to the military.
Chernivtsi oblast
Chernivtsi residents paid their last respects to Marian Cherneia, Sergeant of the Military Unit A3618. The Hero was killed while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.

After a russian drone crashed into a residential building in Galati, Romania closed the russian consulate in Constanta and declared the russian consul general persona non grata. Romania announced that russia bears full responsibility for the drone crash into a residential building.
