On 28 February, there were 132 combat engagements. The Defense Forces continue to stop the enemy, destroying personnel and exhausting their combat potential by inflicting systematic fire damage. The adversary launched two missile strikes with two missiles, 55 airstrikes, and dropped 148 guided aerial bombs. In addition, they used 4,126 kamikaze drones and carried out 2,521 shellings of settlements and positions of our troops.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy today carried out 112 shellings of positions of our troops and settlements, including one involving the use of MLRSs.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the adversary stormed the positions of our units six times in the vicinity of the settlements of Pokrovka, Prylipka, Vovchanski Khutory, Chuhunivka and Zybine. One combat engagement is currently still ongoing.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy twice attacked near Kurylivka and in the vicinity of Borivska Andriivka.
Towards Lyman, Ukrainian warriors repelled five attacks by the occupiers near the settlements of Stavky, Lyman, and Drobysheve.
Towards Sloviansk, the adversary tried five times to advance forward near Rai-Oleksandrivka and in the vicinity of Zakitne and Dronivka. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
Towards Kramatorsk, the adversary did not conduct offensive actions.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the occupiers stormed the positions of Ukrainian defenders seven times near Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Stepanivka, and Novopavlivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy carried out 22 attacks. The occupiers tried to advance in the vicinity of the settlements of Toretske, Nove Shakhove, Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Udachne, Kotlyne, Molodetske and towards Novooleksandrivka, Hryshyne, and Novopidhorodne. Two attempts by the occupiers to improve their position are still ongoing. According to preliminary estimates, 31 occupiers were liquidated and 11 were wounded in this direction today; three units of motor vehicles, 10 units of special equipment, two guns, and one UAV control point were destroyed. One tank, three artillery systems, five motor vehicles, one unit of special equipment, four UAV control points, and 45 enemy shelters were damaged. 167 UAVs of various types were destroyed or suppressed.
Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy went on the offensive twice in the vicinity of Sichneve and Ternove. Havrylivka and Velykomykhailivka were hit by airstrikes.
Towards Huliaipole, there were 37 attacks in the vicinity of Huliaipole and Myrne and towards Dobropillia, Pryluky, Zaliznychne, Sviatopetrivka, and Varvarivka. The enemy launched airstrikes on the settlements of Charivne, Zirnytsia, Novoukrainka, and Dolynka. Four combat engagements are ongoing.
Towards Orikhiv, the occupiers did not conduct attacks but launched an airstrike on Bilenke.
Towards Kherson, no attempts by the enemy to move forward were recorded. Olhivka was hit by an airstrike.
In other directions, no significant changes in the situation have been recorded at this time.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
There were 148 combat engagements in the oblast.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy twice attempted to break through the defensive lines of our defenders in the vicinity of the settlements of Vovchansk and Synelnykove.
Towards Kupiansk, the aggressor attacked once in the vicinity of Novoplatonivka.
A 25-year-old man was injured, and a 20-year-old man suffered acute shock as a result of a Russian drone attack on a farm in Rozsokhuvate, Izium region on 28 February, the regional prosecutor’s office press service reported. Also, as a result of the strikes, two cars belonging to a farm worker and a manager sustained damage.

Oleksandr Balo, Head of Barvinkove City Military Administration, reports that at approximately 12:00 on 27 February, russian troops twice shelled Nikopol, Izium region with Smerch multiple launch rocket systems. As a result of the attack, the roofs and windows of residential buildings, the fiber-optic internet network, and electrical grids were damaged.
The State Emergency Service of Kharkiv oblast, reports that on the morning of 28 February, russians attacked the residential sector of the village of Holubivka, Velykyi Burluk community with a drone. As a result of the hit, a fire broke out in a house and outbuildings covering a total area of approximately 100 square meters.
Viktor Kovalenko, Head of the community, reports that at approximately 12:10 on 28 February, russians struck the village of Kalynove, Zolochiv community with a UAV, preliminarily a Gerbera. As a result of the hit, a private house and outbuildings, including a shed and a cellar, sustained partial damage. There are no injuries.
In Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv, an enemy UAV strike was recorded. A fence at a non-residential building was damaged.
An enemy strike was recorded in Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. Preliminarily, there are no casualties.
Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 19 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were hit by enemy strikes. As a result of the shelling, 7 people were injured, including two children.
In the vicinity of Velyki Khutory, Shevchenkove community, a 54-year-old man was injured; in the vicinity of Iskra, Izium community, a 36-year-old man was injured; in the vicinity of Verkhnia Rohanka, Vilkhivka community, a 67-year-old man, 54-year-old and 24-year-old women, a 9-year-old girl, and a 4-year-old boy were injured.
The enemy attacked the Novobavarskyi, Osnovianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Saltivskyi districts of Kharkiv with UAVs.
The enemy actively used various types of weaponry across Kharkiv oblast: ▪️2 missiles; ▪️3 KABs; ▪️9 Geran-2 type UAVs; ▪️2 Lancet type UAVs; ▪️4 Molniia type UAVs; ▪️6 fpv-drones; ▪️37 UAVs (type being established).
Civilian infrastructure objects were damaged and destroyed:
▪️in the city of Kharkiv, a civilian enterprise and a garage were damaged;
▪️in Bohodukhiv region, a private house was damaged (Zolochiv);
▪️in the vicinity of Kupiansk region, a car and a milk tanker (Velyki Khutory), an emergency medical assistance vehicle (Hrushivka), a car (Mlynky), a car and 2 garages (Shevchenkove), and a private house and outbuilding (Holubivka) were damaged;
▪️in Izium region, 5 private houses, a shop, and 2 cars were damaged (Oskil); 16 private houses, 8 outbuildings, a car, and electrical grids were damaged (Nikopol); electrical grids were damaged (Oleksandrivka); an excavator was damaged (Iskra);
▪️in Kharkiv region, 2 private houses and 2 outbuildings (Korotych), and 2 private houses (Verkhnia Rohanka, Vilshany) were damaged;
▪️in Chuhuiv region, a grain elevator of an enterprise was damaged (Bilyi Kolodiaz).
On 27 February, russian drones twice attacked an emergency medical assistance vehicle traveling to a call in Kupiansk region. Despite the medical transport markings, the crew was forced to leave the vehicle and proceed on foot under drone surveillance.
On 25 February, on the outskirts of Kharkiv, the use of a russian fiber-optic FPV drone was recorded for the first time during the full-scale war. Despite physical limitations, a fiber-optic drone does not emit or “receive” anything, making it impossible to detect with “classic” radars or to bring down using electronic warfare (EW), said aviation expert Kostiantyn Kryvolap.
The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 131 people over the past day. Since the start of operations, 20,732 people have been registered at the Point.
Donetsk oblast
In the morning, russian troops dropped three FAB-250 bombs with UMPK kits on Sloviansk. 37 private houses and cars sustained damage. No information regarding casualties has been received at this time.
On 27 February, the police recorded 1,343 strikes along the frontline and the residential sector of the oblast.
Nine settlements were under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Sloviansk, the settlements of Bilenke, Malotaranivka, Sviatohorivka, and the villages of Kopani and Prylisne (formerly Prelesne).
24 civilian objects were destroyed, 12 of which were residential buildings. Three people were injured due to russian attacks in Donetsk oblast.
In Sviatohorivka, Dobropillia community, a person was injured, and in the vicinity of Kopani, a private house was damaged.
russians struck Druzhkivka with an FPV drone and a Molniia-2 UAV — a civilian was injured, and an administrative building and a car were damaged.
The enemy directed four FPV drones at Sloviansk — there is one injured person, and a private house and three civilian cars were damaged.
The occupiers attacked Kramatorsk with artillery and a Molniia-2 UAV — 8 private houses, an educational institution, and an outbuilding were damaged. In Malotaranivka, a private home was damaged.
In Mykolaivka, an apartment building, an infrastructure object, and a civilian car were damaged.
Luhansk oblast
Of the 11 attacks the enemy carried out in our sectors, seven took place towards Sloviansk. Five settlements came under pressure from russians. In Luhansk oblast, they carried out 11 mortar shelling. The invaders also targeted areas with automatic grenade launchers and used 11 drones.
The problem with garbage collection in the cities of occupied Luhansk oblast has remained unresolved for years. The situation did not improve even with the introduction of an ecological operator. This is because 75% of the vehicle fleet for solid municipal waste management is in disrepair and requires urgent replacement. Recently, russians found 19 spare garbage trucks and transferred them to the so-called “lnr.” This is not even enough to provide one per city. Nevertheless, the invaders promise to soon increase the number of settlements where garbage collection services will be provided.
Every year in the spring, russians transport school graduates from Lysychansk and Rubizhne to the region that is supposed to provide patronage assistance – Tatarstan. They leave no choice for either the young men and women or their parents, intensifying the policy of assimilation of Ukrainian youth. There, they are initially offered better preparation for admission to higher educational institutions and are then encouraged not to return home.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
According to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, on the morning of February 2, the russian army struck settlements in the Obukhiv district. The attack damaged a private house, a car, and a hangar.
Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko informed about eight air raid sirens in the capital this week. with the total duration of almost 10 hours. Several residential buildings were damaged as a result of the enemy attack on the night of 26 February. There were no casualties.
Kyiv Regional State Administration head Mykola Kalashnyk reported that Kyiv oblast received a shipment of generators from French partners. These will replace overloaded devices that power critical infrastructure. Six generators were provided by the French region of Île-de-France, and another six by other partners in France.
Boryspil International Airport has announced its readiness to fully resume civilian flights as soon as it becomes safe and the state issues the corresponding decision. The infrastructure, human resources, certification and operational capacity have been preserved. The airport is systematically preparing to resume civil air transport as the country’s key transport hub.
The Kyiv City State Administration has announced that a new transport service for defenders will start operating in the capital on 1 March. It will be launched on the basis of the Kyiv Military Hub. In particular, it will provide the opportunity to get to the doctor, rehabilitation, or a state institution on time. The vehicles are equipped with lifts for passengers who use wheelchairs and meet the requirements for safe transportation.
According to the Solomyanskyi District State Administration, surgeons at the M.M. Amosov Kyiv Heart Institute removed a metal fragment from a soldier’s chest and saved his life. 24-year-old Dmytro was seriously injured. He suffered multiple shrapnel wounds to his body, as well as burns to his face, chest and hands. During the operation, surgeons removed a metal fragment (2×1.5 cm) from his left pleural cavity, which was tightly attached to his right ventricle.
On 27 February, the National Museum of Ukrainian History in Kyiv opened an exhibition entitled ‘Crimea Resists,’ dedicated to the Day of Resistance to the Occupation of Crimea. It brings together 15 posters created during 12 years of struggle against the occupation of the peninsula.
Zhytomyr oblast
According to the Regional Military Administration, there are currently over 80,000 combatants and war veterans registered in the Zhytomyr oblast. There are 109 specialists working in the oblastto support war veterans and demobilised persons, 19 of whom work in healthcare institutions. They help veterans and their family members navigate government programmes and issues related to professional adaptation, training and employment.
Sumy oblast
The Oblast Prosecutor’s Office reported that on 28 February at approximately 10:30am, russian forces attacked a Ukrposhta service vehicle by a drone in Mykolaivka rural community of Sumy region. The driver of the postal branch sustained severe injuries. According to the Regional Military Administration, a local resident was also injured. In addition, the enemy struck a vehicle in Bilopillia community.

The Regional Military Administration informed that on 27 February, a russian UAV struck a civilian vehicle in Vorozhba community. Three people were inside the car. The vehicle caught fire. Only one passenger managed to escape. The driver and one of the passengers were killed.
According to the Oblast Military Administration, as a result of russian strikes across Sumy oblast over the past day, four people were injured and four others were affected. In Usok village in Yampil community, women aged 72 and 67 were killed and a 60-year-old woman was injured in a russian drone attack. In Sumy community, a 63-year-old man was injured in a drone strike. In Vorozhba community, two residents of Bilopillia community, men aged 31 and 21, were killed in drone strikes, while men aged 47 and 52 were injured.

Over the past day, from the morning of 27 February to the morning of 28 February, russian forces carried out more than 100 attacks on 30 settlements across 16 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used grenade launchers, mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alerts in the oblast lasted 20 hours and 58 minutes over the past day.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- In Sumy community, a building of an educational institution, private residential houses, an outbuilding, civilian infrastructure facilities and a private vehicle were damaged;
- In Vorozhba community, private passenger vehicles were damaged;
- In Yampil community, an administrative building was destroyed and private residential houses were damaged;
- In Hlukhiv community, non-residential premises were damaged;
- In Stepanivka community, a private vehicle was damaged;
- In Khutir-Mykhailivka community, non-residential premises, agricultural machinery and a civilian infrastructure facility were damaged;
- In Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential house and civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged;
- In Znob-Novhorodske community, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged.
Over the past day, 28 people were evacuated by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and civil society organisations from border communities.
Chernihiv oblast
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration said that on 28 February, russian forces attacked civilian infrastructure in Semenika by an FPV drone,. At 12:50pm., russian forces struck a facility of one of the city’s forestry enterprises.
Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that over the past day on 27 February, russian forces attacked transport infrastructure and a forestry enterprise in Koriukivka region of Chernihiv oblast. russian forces used a Heran-type UAV and FPV drones for the strikes. In Novhorod-Siverskyi community, an FPV drone struck a civilian vehicle. In another village, a Molniia-type UAV damaged the roof of a residential house.
Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that during the day on 27 February, russian forces attacked three border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (five explosions) and tube artillery strikes (nine explosions), launched Molniia-type UAVs (two explosions), FPV drones (28 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (four explosions). Eleven settlements were under enemy fire.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that russian forces attacked Dnipro city by UAVs. A man was injured. 2 four-storey buildings, a transport enterprise and a gas pipeline were damaged. The enemy attacked the regional centre, Pokrovske rural and Chervonohryhorivka communities by drones. A fire broke out and a house and a vehicle were damaged. The occupiers struck Vasylkivka and Mezhova communities by UAVs.
Deputy Prime Minister Kuleba, said that in Dnipropetrovsk oblast, the russian military attacked a railway station by drones. As a result of a strike on an electric locomotive, the train driver was injured.
During the day, the occupiers struck Pokrovske community by KABs and attacked Shakhtarske by UAVs. In Pokrovske community, a 39-year-old man was injured; in Shakhtarske, a 37-year-old rescuer was wounded. 11 private houses, vehicles and equipment were damaged.
The enemy attacked Nikopol region by drones and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Myrove, Marhanets, Pokrovske rural and Chervonohryhorivka communities. Fires broke out. Multi-storey buildings, a private house, an outbuilding, a garage, vehicles and enterprises were damaged. The occupiers struck Zelenodolsk community by a drone.

Vinnytsia oblast
In Vinnytsia oblast, debris from drones and missiles shot down by air defence forces in various regions of the oblast was neutralised.
Poltava oblast
A Run of Heroes event was held in Poltava. The event was dedicated to 6 fallen servicemen who defended Ukraine: Yevhenii Petrenko (call sign Zheton), Volodymyr Dubovyk (Joker), Andrii Sereda (Panda), Oleksandr Onyshchenko (Tourist), Artur Vasylkiv (Vasylok) and Pavlo Ivchenko (Palma).
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that an 86-year-old woman was killed as a result of a russian airstrike in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Th russian forces carried out 3 KAB strikes on the oblast. More than 100 houses on 11 streets sustained damage and destruction.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 28 February, the Defence Forces of Ukraine repelled 37 russian attacks in Huliaipole region. Combat engagements took place in the areas of Dobropillia, Pryluky, Zaliznychne, Zelene, Varvarivka, Huliaipilske, Staroukrainka and Olenokostiantynivka.
Based on the information provided by the RMA, on 27 February, over 660 russian strikes were carried out on 37 cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. In particular, 349 UAVs (mostly FPV drones) targeted Rizdvianka, Novomykolaivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Shcherbaky, Mali Shcherbaky, Bilohiria, Pryluky, Dorozhnianka, Dobropillia, Varvarivka, Zelene, Pavlivka and Charivne.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to the Air Force, UAVs were detected in the airspace over Mykolaiv oblast.
The RMA reported that on 27 February, russian troops attacked Ochakiv community 3 times by FPV drones. There were no casualties.
Odesa oblast
According to the Air Force, in the evening, UAVs were moving from the waters of the Black Sea toward Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi region.
Kherson oblast
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, stated that an elderly resident of Bilozirka was killed as a result of a russian attack. At approximately 2:30pm, a 72-year-old woman sustained injuries incompatible with life due to enemy shelling.
The RMA informed that at around 2:30pm, russian forces struck Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by a UAV. As a result of the attack, a 45-year-old woman sustained blast trauma and shrapnel wounds to her legs.
At about 11am, russian forces attacked a woman by a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. The 46-year-old resident sustained a concussion, shrapnel wounds to her leg, blast trauma and a closed head injury.
At approximately 8am, russian forces attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson by a UAV. The enemy dropped explosives from a drone onto a 31-year-old man. He sustained blast trauma, a concussion and burns to his respiratory tract.
Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
Mykola Petrovskyi, Rifleman – Assistant Grenade Launcher of the 1st Mechanized detachment of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion of the Military Unit A4674, from Kovel (born December 16, 1976) returns to Kovel on the shield. He was killed on 25 January 2025 while performing a combat mission near the settlement of Kalynove, Kramatorsk region, Donetsk oblast.
Zakarpattia oblast
At the Humanitarian Center Owl’s Nest NGO during February, internally displaced persons registered in Uzhhorod received 203 packages with food kits; 154 packages of baby and adult diapers; 350 packages of baby milk; 556 loaves of bread. Volunteers distributed clothing, shoes, bed linen and dishes (a total of 6,516 units).
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Ivano-Frankivsk community sent 10 Motanka 10 fiber-optic FPV drones, 4 Matrice quadcopters, 4 Autel quadcopters, and a ground control station and components to the Svoboda Battalion of the National Guard of Ukraine, the Rubizh Brigade. The equipment was sent to defenders in the Dobropil-Pokrovsky region.
Lviv oblast
Father Ivan Hulych and parishioners of the Church of St. Great Martyr Dmitry of the UGCC in the village of Lanivky provided charitable assistance (over UAH 10,000) for the needs of defenders.
A borscht festival was held at the Vasyl Stasiuk Gymnasium, during which, through joint efforts, they raised UAH 51,000, which was used to purchase EcoFlow for the 24th Brigade.
Rivne oblast
Meetings with families of missing persons will continue in Rivne oblast in 2026. This year, the practice of meetings with families of missing persons will continue in the oblast. They have already taken place in Dubrovytska, Sarna, Rokytnivska and Zarichna communities.
Ternopil oblast
In Ternopil, a campaign Let’s Warm Our Hearts With Warmth was held for children of military personnel. Young Ternopil residents received gifts from their peers from different countries of the world. About 250 backpacks were donated. Each backpack contained books, board games, power banks, stationery, clothes, and sweets.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated UAH 240m for direct support to veterans, military personnel, families of the dead, prisoners of war, missing persons, etc. In 2025, this expenditure item will be UAH 304m.
Chernivtsi oblast
Bishop Theognost of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna and three parishes of the eparchy – Holy Protection in the village of Mamaivtsi, Holy Archangel Michael in the village of Ivanivtsi, and Holy Ascension in the village of Luzhany – sent camouflage and anti-drone nets, inverter generators, heaters, and special antennas to amplify the radio signal to the military.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
The UK has imposed the largest package of sanctions against russia since the start of the full-scale invasion. The country announced almost 300 new sanctions against the russian oil and military industries. The targets include the transneft PJSC, which transports more than 80% of russian oil exports, 175 companies in the 2rivers oil network, 48 oil tankers from the shadow fleet and 9 banks that process the kremlin’s international payments. In total, Britain has sanctioned over 3,000 people, businesses and ships. russia has now lost over $450bn due to sanctions restrictions, equivalent to two years of financing for aggression.
