Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline
In the Southern Slobozhanskyi sector, Russian forces carried out two attacks on Ukrainian positions near Hlyboke and Vovchansk.

In the Kupiansk sector, the occupiers launched three assaults on Ukrainian positions near Holubivka and Zahryzove. Two battles are still ongoing.

Over the past day, 139 combat clashes were recorded.

In the Southern Slobozhanskyi sector, the aggressor attacked Ukrainian defenders’ positions five times near Hlyboke, Kolodiazne, Vovchansk, and Kamianka.

In the Kupiansk sector yesterday, six enemy assaults took place. Our defenders stopped enemy assault actions near Kupiansk.

Shelling
In the morning, the enemy shelled Kupiansk. A 33-year-old man was killed, and a 37-year-old woman and man were injured.

Four people — two emergency medical workers and a married couple who were injured in Kupiansk on August 27 during an FPV drone attack — sustained moderate injuries, according to Kupiansk Municipal Military Administration head Andrii Besedin.

He noted that civilians had previously been evacuated to Kharkiv but returned to collect their belongings, while the emergency medical workers were on their way to a call at the time of the strike.

During the past day, seven settlements in Kharkiv region came under enemy attacks. Six people were injured.

In Kupiansk, the injured included men aged 47, 50, and 69, and a 65-year-old woman; in Slobozhanske, a 70-year-old woman; in Shestakove, Starosaltivska community, a 78-year-old man.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons against Kharkiv region:
▪️ 4 Geran-2 type UAVs;
▪️ 1 Molniya type UAV;
▪️ 5 FPV drones;
▪️ 1 UAV (type being identified).

Civilian infrastructure was damaged and destroyed:
▪️ In Kharkiv district: a private house, utility building, garage (Nova Kozacha village), and another private house with utility building (Tsupivka village);
▪️ In Kupiansk district: an emergency ambulance vehicle, a civilian car (Kupiansk), a civilian enterprise (Prykolotne village);
▪️ In Chuhuiv district: a private house (Rubizhne), 2 apartment buildings, 3 cars (Slobozhanske);
▪️ In Bohodukhiv district: a private house, 2 utility buildings (Ivashky village).

On August 29, Kharkiv region declared a Day of Mourning for those killed in Kyiv. During the night of August 28, another Russian attack claimed 17 lives, including 4 children.

At the intermediate evacuation transit point in Lozova, 105 people were registered in one day, including 20 children and 7 persons with reduced mobility. Sixteen people remain there. In total, over 9 days of operation, 679 people have been registered at the point, including 99 children and 95 persons with reduced mobility.

In the Kupiansk sector, more than 5,000 people still need evacuation. In Kupiansk itself, 933 people remain. We constantly stress: evacuation is the only way to save lives and protect loved ones.

In settlements in the Vovchansk sector, about 20 families with children remain. Another 4 families need to be evacuated from the Zolochiv sector.

More than 262 hectares of Kharkiv region territory were demined in the past week.

Volunteers carrying out evacuations from frontline areas of Kharkiv region face a difficult choice: safety or preserving their civilian status. Due to Russian FPV drone attacks reaching up to 15 km from the front line, evacuation vehicles are becoming targets. Installing electronic warfare (EW) systems could provide protection but would deprive volunteers of civilian status under international humanitarian law. As a result, they lose the right to humanitarian organization funding, including for vehicle fuel.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

The Pokrovsk sector saw the heaviest fighting over the past day. The occupiers launched 41 assaults on Defense Forces’ positions on the city’s flanks, particularly near Volodymyrivka, Novoekonomichne, Mayak, as well as near Udachne, Kotlyne, and Novomykolaivka, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. More than 20 attacks took place in the Lyman and Novopavlivka sectors.

The fiercest battles continue in the Pokrovsk, Lyman, and Novopavlivka directions. Russian forces are “blanketing” Ukrainian strongpoints with all available weaponry, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson of the “Dnipro” Operational-Strategic Group of Forces.

Shelling

On the morning of August 28, Russian troops struck Kramatorsk’s railway infrastructure with a drone, according to the local Military Administration.

That morning, Russian forces shelled Kostyantynivka with “Smerch” MLRS and FPV drones. The strikes damaged a kindergarten, a cultural center, an educational facility, and apartment buildings, reported Head of the Military Administration Serhii Horbunov.

Russian troops hit Sloviansk twice during the night of August 28. Four people were injured, and more than 30 houses and infrastructure facilities were damaged. The type of weapon used is still being identified, said Donetsk police press officer Oleksandr Polosukhin.

Russian forces attacked Kostyantynivka with “Smerch” MLRS, FAB-250 aerial bombs, and FPV drones. At least three people were injured, and one person may be trapped under the rubble of an apartment building hit by an aerial bomb, reported Head of Kostyantynivka Military Administration Serhii Horbunov.

On August 27 alone, police recorded 2,225 Russian strikes on the frontline and residential areas.

Eight settlements came under fire: the cities of Kostyantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman; the settlement of Oleksandrivka; the villages of Iverske, Kucheriv Yar, Novoyavlenka, and Raiske.

Luhansk oblast

Russian forces carried out 20 attacks in the Lyman sector and three more in the Siversk sector. In these areas of the frontline, our Defenders are holding back the enemy. The occupiers conducted 11 strikes with tube artillery and used a multiple launch rocket system. They also attempted to attack with 36 drones and FPV drones.

In regions facing a shortage of medical workers, the Russian authorities have allowed paramedics and midwives, starting in September, to perform the duties of therapists, pediatricians, and gynecologists. This practice of engaging medical staff without higher education will also extend to occupied Luhansk region, where many cities face a severe lack of medical personnel. This decision was made by Russia’s Ministry of Health after state programs with incentive payments failed to produce results.

In the temporarily occupied Luhansk region, fuel shortages are being reported: gasoline has disappeared from open sale in Luhansk, Alchevsk, Sorokyne, and other cities, according to the head of the Regional Military Administration Kharchenko. Fuel is distributed by coupons only to employees of “LNR” structures. The shortage in the temporarily occupied part of the region arose after Ukrainian Defense Forces’ strikes on Russian oil refineries.
