It has been the 1283rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 29 August, the total number of combat clashes along the entire front line was 56.

The invaders do not stop striking at border settlements, namely Chornozem, Hremiach in Chernihiv region; Sytne, Tovstodubov, Korenyok, Bila Bereza, Boyaro-Lezhachi, Zarichne in Sumy region were hit by enemy artillery fire. The enemy also launched an air strike near the settlement of Krenydivka.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were three combat clashes. In addition, the enemy launched three air strikes, dropping three guided bombs, and also carried out 101 shelling of the positions of our troops and settlements, including six from multiple launch rocket systems.

Towards Southern Sloboda, enemy units carried out four attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the area of ​​Hlyboke and towards Fiholivka, Kutkivka. Two clashes are ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried to storm the positions of Ukrainian units four times towards Kupiansk, two clashes are ongoing.

Towards Lyman, there were 17 enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Karpivka, Kolodyaz and towards Druzheliubivka, Shandryholove, Dronivka, Serebrianka, Hryhorivka. Seven clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the enemy tried to advance twice near Hryhorivka and Pereizne – all the enemy’s attempts to advance to the positions of our units were repelled.

Towards Kramatorsk, the Defense Forces repelled one attack towards Vasiukivka.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked Shcherbinivka, Toretsk and in the vicinity of the settlements of Kleban Byk, Katerynivka, Rusyn Yar, Poltavka. Two of the six clashes are continuing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy attacked the positions of our defenders 23 times in the areas of the settlements of Maiak, Zapovedne, Sukhetske, Novoekonomichne, Myrolyubivka, Promin, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne and in the vicinity of Rodynske, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, and Novopavlivka. Fighting continues in two locations.

Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks in the vicinity of ​​the settlement of Voskresenka, Filia, Oleksandrograd.

Towards Huliaipole, there were no clashes. The settlement of Bilohiria was hit by an airstrike.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy twice unsuccessfully tried to break through the defense of Ukrainian defenders in the areas of Nesterianka and Stepove.

Towards Kherson, Ukrainian units repelled one enemy assault. Enemy aviation struck in the areas of the settlements of Lvove and Olhivka.

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

There were 191 combat clashes in the oblast.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy twice stormed the positions of Ukrainian units in the vicinity of Hlyboke and Vovchansk.

Towards Kupiansk, there were five attacks in the vicinity of Zapadne, Synkivka, Holubivka and Zahryzove.

Shelling

5 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were subjected to enemy attacks. As a result of the shelling, one person died and three were injured.

In the city of Kupiansk, a 33-year-old man was killed, a 37-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman and a 59-year-old woman were injured.

A 39-year-old man who was injured on August 25 in the village of Velykyi Burluk also sought medical attention.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons in the Kharkiv region:

▪️1 GAB;

▪️2 Molniya type UAVs;

▪️3 fpv drones;

▪️2 UAVs (type to be determined).

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️In Kupyansky region, a private house (Kurhanne village), an administrative building, a school, a shop, a club, a monument (Prystin village) were damaged;

▪️In Izyumsky region, 2 private houses and a summer kitchen were damaged (Borova village);

▪️In Chuhuiv region, an agricultural enterprise (Buhaivka village) was damaged.

196 people were registered at the intermediate transit evacuation point in Lozova during the day, including 44 children and 11 citizens with reduced mobility. 41 people remained. A total of 875 people have been registered at the Point since it began operating.

A car rally was held in Kharkiv to commemorate the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Defenders. About 50 cars took part in it. On the cars, participants placed posters with the inscriptions “The memory of heroes is the strength of the nation,” “Your heart beats because he gave his,” and “We remember, we honor.” People also brought national flags and flags of units with them, which they attached to the cars.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

The General Staff reports that russian troops attacked more than 30 times near Lyman, compared to 20 assaults the day before, another 10 times the russian federation attacked towards Novopavlivka (3 – the day before).

Towards Lyman, there were 31 attacks by the invaders near Hrekivka, Novomykhailivka, Karpivka, Zelena Dolyna, Kolodiazi, Torske and towards Yampol, Dronivka and Serebrianka.

Towards Siversk, Ukrainian troops stopped ten attacks near Hryhorivka, Vyimka and Pereyzne.

Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian defenders stopped 37 assaults.

Towards Lyman, russian troops are carrying out constant assaults and infiltration into the rear of the defense of the 66th Motorized Rifle Brigade. The russian army uses drones, motorcycles and hides in forest belts and ruins, – said the junior sergeant of the brigade Vasyl Denisiuk.

Towards ​​Chasiv Yar, russian troops are trying to advance in small infantry groups, accumulating near the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the area of ​​responsibility of the 24th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade named after King Danylo, active fighting continues. Ukrainian forces are destroying these groups, in particular, using drones, said the representative of the press service of the 24th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade Andrii Polukhin.

Shelling

According to the head of the RMA, in Kostiantynivka, an employee of one of the communal enterprises of the community was killed during shelling, and two more employees were injured.

Vadim Lyakh, Head of the RMA,  says that russian military attacked Sloviansk at night – no injuries. The russian army hit the industrial zone of Lisnyi microdistrict, on the outskirts of Cherevkivka microdistrict and outside the residential area of Slovkurort microdistrict.

Oleksandr Honcharenko, Head of the RMA, says that at 01:40 the russian army attacked the Kramatorsk community. russian troops struck the regional landscape park and damaged the administrative building. There were no deaths or injuries.

Seven people were injured due to russian attacks on Donetsk oblast. On August 28, there were 2,074 enemy strikes on the front line and residential sector.

13 settlements were under fire: the cities of Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, Pokrovsk. Sloviansk, the villages of Novoiavlenka, Ivanopillia, Iverske, Illinivka, Petrivka Druha, Stepanivka.

91 civilian objects were destroyed, including 58 residential buildings.

russians shelled Slaviansk three times, including two missiles from the Iskander-M anti-aircraft missile system – injuring three civilians, damaging 35 apartment buildings and 2 private houses, 2 educational institutions, 2 shops, a hotel, an enterprise, a bathhouse, a boiler room, a car wash, and 6 civilian cars.

There were three wounded civilians in Kostiantynivka, which the enemy struck 8 times with a FAB-250 bomb, MLRS, and drones. 6 apartment buildings and 9 private houses, 2 shops, 2 educational institutions, a cultural center, 2 outbuildings, and three garages were damaged.

In Pokrovsk, one civilian was injured. In Dobropillia, an enterprise was damaged as a result of two Geran-2 UAVs hitting it.

In Druzhkivka, a FAB-250 bomb hit outside the settlement. russian troops dropped a FAB-250 bomb on Illinivka – 2 apartment buildings were damaged.

In Lyman, enemy drones damaged an apartment building and a private house. In Petrivka, Druha Oleksandrivska community, a Gerbera UAV  hit a private home.

In Novodonetsk community, drone strikes in Novoiavlenka damaged a private house, in Stepanivka – a private enterprise and railway infrastructure, in Iversky – an enterprise.

In addition, information was established about one person killed in Pokrovsk and one injured in Bilytske, who were injured as a result of shelling on August 27.

Other

August 29, 2025 marks the eleventh anniversary of the end of the battles for Ilovaisk, Donetsk oblast. They lasted from August 6 to 29, 2014 and went down in history as the “Ilovaisk Cauldron”. At that time, the Ukrainian army lost 366 soldiers, 429 were injured to varying degrees of severity, and 300 were captured.

Prosecutors have documented a war crime by the russian federation near Myroliubivka in Donetsk oblast: the Russians tortured and killed Ukrainian prisoners of war. One fighter survived and gave testimony. Donetsk region prosecutor’s office reported that law enforcement officers have launched an investigation.

The RMA reported that 20 residents of the community were evacuated from Kostiantynivka on August 29.

Luhansk oblast

The invaders sent fifty drones and FPV drones to Ukrainian fortifications and nearby settlements. russians also fired 19 artillery strikes. They carried out 31 assaults near Hrekivka.

Residents of several districts of Lysychansk complain about the lack of centralized water supply. russians captured the city more than three years ago, but they still have not restored critical infrastructure. Residents of the surrounding villages are also waiting for water in vain. The last promise from the occupiers was in the fall of 2024. They assured that there would be water in four months. Almost a year has passed since then.

The invaders have once again announced attempts to pay off the salary arrears to medical workers that arose in the so-called “lpr” during 2014-2015. Then, state employees who remained in the occupied territory waited in vain for russian funds for over a year. Teachers, doctors, miners, and light industry workers were left without salaries. russians raised this issue about once a year – in the summer of 2023, in the fall of 2024, and now. But there is still no money.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited the ruins of a residential building in Kyiv where a russian missile strike killed 25 people, including four children. The Head of State honored the memory of the victims, stressing that this attack was yet another war crime committed by russia. Zelenskyy also noted that assistance with housing would be provided to survivors.

On the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine, the National Military Memorial Cemetery was officially opened in the presence of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk, Prime Minister and Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Minister for Veterans Affairs Nataliia Kalmykova.

The press service of Optima Farm reported that on the night of August 28, as a result of russian shelling of Kyiv, a pharmaceutical warehouse and medical supplies were destroyed. No people were injured. The company is a Ukrainian-Estonian joint venture and a leading supplier of medicines and medical products.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that families of servicemen who gave their lives defending Ukraine received posthumous honors “Honor. Glory. State.” from the city authorities. In total, 71 awards were presented.

On the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine, the All-Ukrainian Union of War Veterans organized a memorial event at the Bila Tserkva Local History Museum to honor fallen soldiers. The event was attended by veterans, law enforcement officers, comrades-in-arms, and families of the fallen. The museum also presented exhibitions:

• A photo installation “Ukrainian Soldiers in the ATO Zone”, which tells the stories of servicemen from 2014 to the present.

• An art exhibition “Colors Breathe War”, featuring the works of soldier and artist Oleh Drobotksyi, who was killed in March 2023.

Zhytomyr oblast

Three rescuers of the State Emergency Service from Zhytomyr oblast — Dmytro Krasnoshchokov, Volodymyr Kurinnyi, and Oleksii Sych — were posthumously awarded distinctions of the President of Ukraine. The heroes were killed while carrying out demining operations. Their families received the awards.

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine reported that conservation work is underway in Viazivka, Zhytomyr oblast, on the 19th-century Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The monument was destroyed by russian shelling in February 2022. The conservation efforts are being conducted with financial support from UNESCO.

In the settlement of Chervone, an event was held to mark the Day of Remembrance of Defenders of Ukraine. Local residents gathered at the Alley of Glory to honor the Heroes with a moment of silence and the laying of flowers. Afterwards, the traditional run “I Honor the Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine”, which has been held since 2018, took place.

In the Oliivska community, a requiem rally was held near the Alley of Heroes in the village of Oliivka, followed by a themed evening of remembrance at the House of Culture in the village of Kamianka.

Chernihiv oblast

In Chernihiv, events were held to honour the memory of Ukraine’s defenders. After a march, the procession moved to the Alley of Heroes, the memorial steles dedicated to fallen soldiers and the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. The remembrance ceremonies continued at local cemeteries.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the oblast council, says that as a result of the attack on Dnipro, two men aged 46 and 69 were injured.

Fires broke out, an infrastructure facility and a fire station were damaged. Drones hit the Synelnyky district. They targeted Vasylkivka, Mezhova, Pokrovske and Slovianska communities. Two people were killed in Pokrovske community – a 28-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man. A 50-year-old woman was injured. Fires broke out, an enterprise, a gas station, cars and private houses were damaged. In the evening, they continued to strike in the Nikopol region. They targeted Pokrovske, Myrove and Marhanets communities with drones. A fire broke out in Novopillia community of Kryvyi Rih region due to a drone strike.

The enemy again attacked Nikopol, Kryvyi Rih and Synelnykove regions. During the day, the occupiers carried out about three dozen strikes on the Nikopol region. They struck with drones and artillery. They targeted Nikopol, Pokrovsk, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove and Marhanets communities.

In Nikopol, a 20-year-old man was injured by a drone strike. He will be treated at home. A fire broke out, private houses, a car and an administrative building were damaged. They also struck Synelnykove region. They targeted Ukrainka, Mezhova, Pokrovske and Mala Mykhailivka communities. Fires broke out, farms, a private house, garages, a bus and a car were damaged. They also struck Zelenodolsk community of Kryvyi Rih region, a fire broke out.

Vinnytsia oblast

On the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, about a hundred catring establishments in Vinnytsia joined the national action “Table of Memory” to honor the fallen soldiers. The 2023 initiative was initiated by the wife of the deceased serviceman, Maria Hrabar. One table in each establishment remains reserved for the whole day.

Kirovohrad oblast

Three communities of the oblast paid tribute the servicemen who were killed in action. These are Viacheslav Diachenko, Vitalii Koriachko, and Vladyslav Morozov.

Poltava oblast

A motorcade and a nationwide minute of silence were held in Poltava to commemorate the day of remembrance of the fallen defenders of Ukraine.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, near the city council building, next to the state one, the white-and-black “Flag of Hope” was solemnly raised to remember the captured and missing defenders. The flag was raised by the defender of Mariupol, Pavlo Bersan, who was returned from captivity.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

In the morning of 29 August, the russian army attacked Komyshuvakha with drones. A 73-year-old woman was injured as a result of the attack. A private house was damaged.

Yesterday, 28 August, the occupiers executed 553 strikes on 13 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 5 airstrikes on Malokaterynivka, Prymorske, Novodanylivka, Bilohiria. 4 MLRS strikes hit Mala Tokmachka and Novodanylivka. 376 drones of various types, mostly FPV, attacked Bilenke, Plavni, Huliaipole, Malynivka, Omelnyk, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. 168 artillery strikes were carried out on Plavni, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Novoandriivka, and Malynivka. 45 reports were received about damage to houses, apartments, farm buildings, cars, and infrastructure. Two people, including a one-year-old child, were injured as a result of russian aggression.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, 28 August, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community six times with FPV drones. Two private houses were damaged as a result of the attack.

Also yesterday, at 10:00, the enemy attacked the city of Ochakiv with an FPV drone, damaging two private houses. No one was injured.

On Friday, 29 August, in Mykolaiv, a memorial event was held on the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of the defenders of the state who died in the fight for Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Attendees honored the memory of the fallen soldiers with a minute of silence and laid flowers at a temporary memorial for the deceased.

 

Odesa oblast

The death toll rose to two as a result of the russian attack on the Ukrainian Navy ship “Simferopol.” Several servicemen were injured, and most of the crew are safe. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

Today in Odesa, in Taras Shevchenko Park on the Alley of Heroes, panels with 82 more names of Ukrainian defenders were unveiled. The creation of the Alley involved mothers, wives, sisters, and relatives of the fallen heroes. Today, 552 names of fighters are inscribed here: veterans of the ATO, the Joint Forces Operation, and the full-scale invasion.

On the eve of the Day of Remembrance of Ukraine’s defenders, on 28 August, awards were presented to the families of fallen border guards. The event took place at the Odesa Regional Center of Ukrainian Culture.

Kherson oblast

Today, 29 August, russian forces attacked a civilian car with a drone on the road near the village of Osokorivka. A pregnant woman and a man were injured.

Around 10:00, russian invaders attacked a man in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with a drone. As a result of the attack, the Kherson resident suffered an explosive injury and a shrapnel wound to the head.

Around 9 am, russian invaders attacked Dniprovskyi district of Kherson with a UAV. As a result of the attack, a 66-year-old man sustained fatal injuries.

Medical assistance was needed by a resident of the village of Inhulets, who was injured during a russian shelling on the morning of 26 August. A 55-year-old woman was diagnosed with an explosive injury and concussion.

Yesterday, 28 August, the russian forces attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Sofiivka, Kizomys, Dniprovske, Prydniprovske, Yantarne, Bilozirka, Rozlyv, Romashkove, Stanislav, Zymivnyk, Naddniprianske, Beryslav, Shevchenkivka, Novoraisk, Vysoke, Chervonyi Maiak, Tiahynka, Burhunka, Odradokamianka, Olhivka, Lvive, Mykolaivka, and Virivka. The police recorded damage to an apartment building and seven private houses, critical infrastructure, six vehicles, and a garage. Two people were killed and ten were injured due to russian aggression.

Another group of children aged three to 17 was returned from temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. One child had been sent to a military camp by the occupying authorities without the mother’s consent, and older boys could have been forcibly mobilized. Parents were forced to send their children to russian schools. The evacuation was carried out with the assistance of the organization Save Ukraine.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

A Memorial to the Heroes-soldiers who were killed for the freedom and independence of Ukraine – was opened in the Boratyn community. The opening was attended by families of the fallen soldiers, community residents, and officials.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 50 bags with grocery sets and 75 loaves of bread. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (1,200 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V., Spletinnia Kosice, Valentyn Stefano and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The 1st veterans’ march-throwing event in Ukraine, Carpathian YOMP, was held in the Carpathian region with the support of the Ukrainian Helicopters airline. The event was held under the slogan Together We Fight, Together We Rehabilitate and gathered over 100 participants, including veterans with prostheses and wives of fallen defenders with children.

Lviv oblast

Lviv Invest Forum 2025 was held in Lviv. The event brought together over 600 top investors, entrepreneurs, analysts, and startups from Ukraine and around the world. The focus was on investments, new opportunities, and directions for capital development.

During the Youth Day in Nadychy, over UAH 60,000 was raised for the needs of military personnel of Kulykivska community. At a charity event in Sukhovolia, an auction raised almost UAH 150,000 for defenders.

With the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Department of Culture, Youth and Sports of the Pustomyty City Council launched a Our Song is Our Weapon charity festival to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the village of Mistky, the festival raised over UAH 150,000. In the village of Miloshevychi, almost UAH 8,000.

Rivne oblast

10 cars were sent to the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine by Rivne RMA since the beginning of the year. 2 of them were sent in August. This property was confiscated as state revenue from violators of customs legislation and within the framework of criminal proceedings.

Ternopil oblast

45 children from Ternopil rested in a camp in the city of Plonsk (the Republic of Poland). These are children from the families of defenders, combatants, fallen Heroes and missing servicemen.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The military received equipment, quadcopters, FPV drones, electronic warfare equipment, and other equipment worth about UAH 33m from Khmelnytskyi community.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council allocated UAH 12.7m to support security and defense forces. In addition, UAH 6.5m was allocated for new equipment for medical institutions.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The US State Department has approved the sale of 3,350 ERAM aircraft missiles to Ukraine. The $825m arms package will also include missile containers, launch pylons, spare parts, consumables, weapons software, flight planning equipment, training aids, technical documentation, transportation, and technical and logistical support services.

Belgium will provide Ukraine with additional military assistance in the amount of €100m. The assistance will arrive this year as part of NATO’s Priority Ukraine Needs List (PURL) initiative.
