War in Ukraine today: latest news, 28 August, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 917th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 28 August the russians did not stop trying to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory. The defence forces held back the invaders, causing them significant losses. 

There were 111 engagements on the front line. 

The occupiers focused their main efforts towards Pokrovsk, where they conducted one-third of all attacks on Ukrainian territory. Additionally, the occupiers actively operated towards Kupiansk and Kurakhove.

Border areas in Sumy continued to suffer from russian airstrikes. Terrorists struck with guided bombs in the vicinity of Pustohorod, Bilopillia, Horile and Basivka. The civilian infrastructure in russia also suffered from artillery shelling and airstrikes by the russian army.

Towards Kharkiv, the occupiers twice assaulted the positions of Ukrainian units near Lypsti and Vovchansk. The battle continued. The situation remained under control. The enemy also struck with rockets from helicopters near Kozacha Lopan, Alisivka and Kudiivka.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions seventeen times. Ukrainian defenders repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Kolisnykivka, Stelmakhivka and Kruhliaivka.

Towards Lyman, enemy units attacked in the vicinity of Druzelubivka, Novoiehorivka, Makiivka, Nevske and Novosadove. Since the beginning of the day, Ukrainian soldiers have already repelled eight attacks.

Towards Siversk, the enemy attacked twice near Spirne. They faced a harsh response.

Towards Kramatorsk, the invaders launched nine assaults near Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka, Bila Hora and Hryhorivka. Near the last settlement, they carried out two strikes with unguided air missiles.

Towards Toretsk, the number of enemy attacks currently stands at 13. Today, the enemy attacked in the vicinity of Pivnichne, Druzhba, Toretsk, Niu-York and Nelipivka. Battles near Nelipivka are still ongoing in three locations. The aggressor’s aviation struck the village of Druzhba with unguided air missiles.

The highest number of clashes was recorded at this time towards Pokrovsk. Since the beginning of the day, the occupiers have already made 34 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders out of their positions in the vicinity of eleven different settlements. Nearly half of all clashes occurred near Selydove and Novohrodivka. The defence forces, holding back the enemy’s pressure, have already repelled 23 enemy attacks in this direction. The rest are ongoing. The enemy is suffering significant losses in manpower.

Towards Kurakhove, the occupiers attacked Ukrainian units 22 times, trying to advance in the vicinity of Ukrainka, Heorhiivka, Kostyantynivka, and Karlivka. Almost half of the clashes are ongoing – fierce battles are taking place, particularly near Karlivka.

Towards Vremivka, the occupiers attacked Ukrainian troops twice towards Kostyantynivka and Vodiane. Five times, they used aviation to strike Vuhledar and Yehorivka with rockets.

Towards Orikhiv, Stepove was struck by two guided bombs. The occupiers also conducted two assaults near Robotyne and Novodanylivka.

Towards Kherson, the enemy did not carry out offensive actions. They struck with unguided air missiles towards Kozatske from a Su-25 attack aircraft.

The Ministry of Defense reported that they expanded the range of field rations. Now, religious, medical, and ethical needs will be considered when forming field rations. As part of this initiative, the range of rations will be significantly expanded, providing the military with more variety, including plant-based, kosher, and halal options. The new rations will be available to the military in December 2024. 

Ukrhydroenerho reported that there is no longer a single HPP in Ukraine that has not been attacked by russia. As a result of enemy attacks, Ukrainian HPPs lost about 40% of their generation capacity, and thermal power plants lost over 80%. These generation sources are balancing Ukraine’s energy sector.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

The General Staff reported that the highest concentration of russian attacks over the past day was near Novohrodivka. The russian army attacked 55 times towards Pokrovsk.  

 Towards Kurakhove, russians were also active. Here, the russian occupiers conducted 22 attacks on Ukrainian positions yesterday.

 Another 23 times the russian army tried to attack the defence forces towards Toretsk, where fighting took place near Nelipivka, Toretsk and Niu-York. 

Kharkiv oblast

Yesterday at 10:43pm, russians attacked Piatyhirske village of Donets community, Izium region. According to the RMA, the shelling set fire to a vehicle. A 52-year-old woman was injured.

At 10:05pm, russians attacked Izium.  As a result of the shelling, the roof of the house was burning. The fence and windows of the administrative building were damaged. 12 people were injured.

At 6:30pm, russians attacked . A 42-year-old man was injured as a result of the shelling.

At 2:30pm, russians attacked Kozacha Lopan village of Derhachi community, Kharkiv region. The shelling damaged a private household.

At 1:32pm, russians attacked Tsyrkuny village of Kharkiv region. As a result of the shelling, 4 outbuildings and grass on the area of 1 hectare were burned.

At 1:20pm, russians attacked Kozacha Lopan village of Derhachi community, Kharkiv region. The shelling destroyed a house.

At 11:05am, russians attacked Cherkaski Tyshky village of Tsyrkuny community, Kharkiv region. As a result of the shelling, 7 abandoned houses, 12 outbuildings and 2 cars were partially burnt.

At 10:44am, russians attacked Tsyrkuny village of Kharkiv region. As a result of the shelling, the owner’s house burned down. A 37-year-old woman was injured.

At 10am, russians attacked outside the town Bohodukhiv region. As a result of the shelling, grass burned on an area of 200 sq m.

At 9:35am, russians attacked Bohodukhiv. As a result of the shelling of an infrastructure facility, 8 people were injured and a 72-year-old man killed.

Towards Kharkiv, there were nine combat engagements near Hlyboke, Starytsia, Vovchansk and Lyptsi.

Towards Kupiansk, there were 25 combat engagements. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Kolisnykivka and Stelmakhivka.

Police chief, Volodymyr Tymoshko, stated on the United News telethon that during a massive attack on 26 August, russia fired a Kalibr sea-based missile with a cluster warhead at Kharkiv oblast for the first time. 

In Kharkiv, 5,500 children were enrolled in the first grade, which is 2,000 fewer than last year. According to Olha Demenko, Head of the City Department of Education, there are currently 53,000 school students and 75% of teachers in Kharkiv, and there is no shortage of teachers. 5,500 school students will be able to attend offline classes: there will be a metro school, an underground school, and two radiation shelters. Another 800 children will attend the metro school. Classrooms will be equipped at six metro stations. The total number of students who will study in them is more than 3 thousand children. Kharkiv will have three underground schools in Osnovianskyi, Novobovarskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. More than 2,000 children will be able to study there. The work is expected to be completed by the end of December at the latest. Three more underground schools are to be built in Kharkiv with a subsidy from the state budget, the amount of which is UAH 345m and the work will begin when the money is received. In total, Kharkiv plans to build an underground school in each of the city’s districts.

Donetsk oblast

According to an order signed by Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, from now on, Pokrovsk community and the city will have an extended curfew from 3pm to 11am. Here is a full list of the settlements that will be subject to the new rules: Pokrovsk, Rodynske, Troianda, Lysivka, Hnativka, Dachenske, Zelene, Novopavlivka, Novoukrainka, Rih, Sukhyi Yar, Chunyshyne, Pushkine and Zhovte.

Yesterday the curfew was tightened in all settlements of Selydove and Kurakhove communities. It will be in effect from 3pm to 11am and on the territory of Kostiantynivka community – from 5pm to 9am.

Yurii Tretiak, Head of the CMA, informed that there are still less than 7,000 people, including 78 children, in Myrnohrad community.  Also russian FPV drones are flying in the city and there is no electricity, water and gas in some areas, but there are still people left.

Yesterday russian troops fired 2,575 times at the frontline and residential areas.

According to the police, russian troops shelled Myrnohrad with artillery yesterday, damaging a cafe, and at 4:40am the city suffered another attack. Nine private houses and non-residential premises were damaged, with no casualties reported.

10 settlements were under attack.

The destruction of 33 civilian objects, including 17 residential buildings, educational institutions, a hotel, a cafe, a petrol station, a trade pavilion, cars and communications.

The occupiers shelled Selydove using artillery, wounding two civilians and damaging a private house.

The enemy attacked Kostiantynivka with a drone and artillery and man was injured, three private houses, an educational institution and a trade pavilion damaged.

The russians dropped two UMD D-30SN bombs on Shakhtarske of Velyka Novosilka community, damaging 11 private houses and an educational institution.

Karpivka of Lyman community was attacked by Uragan MRLs, damaging a private house, a hotel, a petrol station and cars.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that an entire family was killed in a russian strike on Izmailivka village, Pokrovsk region. The russian army dropped a bomb on a private house. Parents aged 45 and 53, their 17-year-old son and 24-year-old daughter were killed.

In addition, it was reported that a civilian was killed and injured as a result of the hostile shelling of Panteleimonivka on 26 August.

The village of Novoekonomichne of Hrodivka community is located not far from Myrnohrad. The front line is about 5km away. Head Tetiana Khlopianyk reported that because of the shelling, 90% of the residents left the village. There were deaths and injuries in the village, a century-old church was destroyed, and several dozen houses were damaged. The pharmacy is out of business, there is no centralised water supply, and the bus does not run. The curfew is 20 hours a day.

Luhansk oblast

The risk of russian shelling of frontline villages remains high, although the invaders are aware of where the local population still lives. According to the Regional Military Administration, the enemy does not stop firing at settlements located near the contact line. For instance, 33 mortar and artillery strikes were made at Stelmakhivka. Nevske and Makiivka were shelled by artillery and drones. The occupiers used more than 100 UAVs there in a day. The fighting took place near Stelmakhivka and Nevske.

Since 2 September, a number of new subjects have been introduced in the schools of the so-called “lpr”, aimed at propaganda rather than the development of students’ physical, mathematical, legal or humanitarian abilities. Thus, instead of life safety, they will study the defence of the homeland. Family studies is being introduced as an elective, though with compulsory attendance – according to the curriculum, the course is supposed to form an attachment to russian spiritual values. The occupiers also plan to return children to the machines in labour lessons, according to their own words.

From 1 January 2025, in the occupied Luhansk oblast, people whose land plots are unclaimed will lose their ownership rights. This applies, among other things, to landowners. In order to keep the land, it must be quickly re-registered under russian law. Accordingly, you need to have a package of russian-type documents, starting with your passport and cadastral number. These are the requirements of the russians.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Construction of two new fire depots for the needs of the Kyiv City State Emergency Service has begun in Kyiv. The work is being financed from the city budget. New fire stations will be located in two districts of the city to serve new densely populated neighbourhoods. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the capital will not stop supporting the Kyiv garrison of rescuers, given their workload under russian shelling.

The construction of a radiation shelter for students of the Markhalivka gymnasium is underway in Kyiv oblast. It will accommodate up to 235 people at a time. The shelter will be dual-purpose: in peacetime, students of the gymnasium will be able to use it for clubs and other events.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that shelters in Kyiv educational institutions can accommodate a total of 317,000 people. Over the past 2 years, the capacity of shelters in educational institutions increased by 94,000 places. The shelters are equipped with backup lighting, backup power supplies, ventilation systems and other necessary equipment. Wi-Fi is available.

As part of the Municipal Security programme, Kyiv provides physical security for all general secondary education institutions. All educational institutions in the capital are equipped with panic buttons at the expense of the city budget and are under round-the-clock security. Video surveillance and burglar alarm systems are also being implemented.

In 2024, the city budget of the capital allocates almost UAH 1.5b for new dual-purpose buildings with security features.

Volodymyr Karpliuk, co-founder of the ‘Vzvazhni’ charity organisation, announced that a kindergarten in Borodyanka will be equipped with a solar power plant. According to him, the charity and the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) have signed memoranda of cooperation and partnership to install solar power plants on the roofs of kindergartens in Borodyanka, Kyiv oblast, and Myrhorod, Poltava oblast. 

Zhytomyr oblast

According to ecologists, the total amount of damage caused to the environment by the crash of a russian drone into a non-residential building in one of the communities of Zhytomyr oblast on the night of 14 August 2024 was over UAH 26m. This was announced by Yevhenii Medvedovskyi, Head of the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Polissia District.

Vitalii Bunechko, Head of the Regional State Administration, announced that Alexandru Victor, the Honorary Ambassador of Romania, paid an official visit to Zhytomyr Oblast. During the meeting, they discussed the prospects of expanding partnerships and economic cooperation between the two countries, as well as the possibility of opening an honorary consulate of Romania in Zhytomyr oblast. 

The Regional Military Administration reported that Zhytomyr oblast communities have 46 interregional partnership and cooperation agreements with municipalities of European cities, including Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Lithuania and Portugal.

There are 12 psychological support spaces in Zhytomyr oblast where every citizen can get help and advice on how to maintain their mental health. According to the RMA, since June 2024, more than 200 people have turned to these institutions to receive psychological counselling. The initiative to create the spaces belongs to the In Touch Ukraine Foundation.

Sumy oblast

 During night and morning, russians carried out 23 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in  Sumy oblast, resulting in 94 explosions. The attacks targeted Bilopillia, Esman, Yampil, Mykolaivka, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Hlukhiv, Bereza, Seredyno-Buda communities.

On 27 August, the enemy carried out 81 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in  Sumy oblast, resulting in 290 explosions. The attacks targeted Bilopillia, Bereza, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Sumy, Nova Sloboda, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne and Seredina-Buda communities.

Krasnopillia community: the russians fired by artillery (34 explosions), mortar fire (29 explosions), an FPV-drone attack (21 explosions), launched air defense bombs KAB (2 explosions).

Esman community: the enemy carried out a KAB airstrike (8 explosions), fired by a mortar (30 explosions), attacked with an FPV drone (3 explosions).

Sumy community: the enemy struck a UAV of the “Lancet” type (1 explosion).

Bereza community: KAB airstrike (3 explosions).

Bilopollia community: the enemy carried out KAB airstrike (9 explosions), also russians attacked by mortar (18 explosions). 

Velyka Pysarivka community: artillery shelling (26 explosions), mortar fire (17 explosions), grenade attack (12 explosions) were carried out, also enemy attacked by FPV- drones (4 explosions), an explosive device was dropped from a UAV (7 explosions).

Hlukhiv community: air bombs were launched by KAB (4 explosions).

Shalyhyne community: launch of KAB aerial bombs (1 explosion), the enemy shelled the community with MLRS (15 explosions), mortar fire (10 explosions).

 Nova Slobodka community: FPV drone attack (1 explosion).

Seredyno-Buda community: the enemy attacked with FPV drones (4 explosions) and mortar shelling (6 explosions).

The Ministry of Energy reported that 8,500 subscribers remain without electricity in Sumy Oblast.  As a result of airstrikes and shelling, 420 consumers were cut off.

Sumy RMA informed that children’s services in Sumy Oblast received modern office equipment from UNICEF.   57 sets of equipment, consisting of a multifunctional device, a laptop, a tablet and additional accessories, will go to services in the communities of oblast.   The aid was provided by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the NGO “Fishermen’s Club of Ukraine” with the financial support of the Government of the Republic of Korea. 

Chernihiv oblast

Throughout the day, russian forces carried out attacks on the border areas of Chernihiv oblast using 120 mm mortars, drones, and artillery. 58 explosions were recorded.

Throughout the day,  russian forces attacked 11 settlements in four border communities of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siversk, Semenivka, Snovsk and Horodnia community. The russians used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, and dropped explosives from UAVs. In total, border guards recorded 33 explosions.

Novhorod-Siversk community: 

Towards Kovpynka: two hits, likely by dropped UAVs;

Towards Pushkari: one hit, likely by dropped UAVs;

Towards Hremiach: three hits, likely by a 120mm mortar and one hit, likely by FPV- drone.

Towards Myhalchyna Sloboda: one hit, likely by FPV-drone.

Semenivka community: 

Towards Orlykivka: 10 hit, likely by artillery

Городнянська громада:

No casualties or injuries from shelling among the local population have been reported.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv RMA, announced that, as a result of shelling on 27 August, 25 houses burned in the border village of Semenivka community.  The fire destroyed residential and non-residential buildings of various purposes, as well as flooring in the forest on an area of 70 hectares. 

Department of Emergency Situations in Chernihiv oblast reported that the fire, which occurred in the afternoon of 27 August as a result of the shelling of the village of Orlykivka of the Semenivka community, bordering the Chernihiv Oblast, was finally extinguished at six in the morning.  

Chernihiv Regional Police informed that in Chernihiv oblast, police explosive experts destroyed part of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) launched by the russian army during recent air raid alerts. The drone, identified as a “Geranium-2” strike aircraft, did not detonate upon impact. 

Additionally, over the summer, primary school students in 10 schools across  Chernihiv oblast are working to catch up on lost educational progress. At the Redkivka Lyceum, primary students have become participants in the pilot program “KECH!”. This program, developed by the educational foundation GoGlobal in collaboration with UNICEF, aims to improve students’ reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Search and rescue operations have been completed in Kryvyi Rih. The death toll in the hotel has risen to four. Rescuers unblocked the body of one more person at night. From evening until morning, the enemy continued to attack Nikopol district. They attacked with artillery, kamikaze drones, dropped ammunition from drones and shelled with Grad rockets. They targeted the district centre, Chervonohryhorivka and Marhanets communities. Several fires broke out, an outbuilding was destroyed, a non-residential building, a fitness centre and infrastructure were damaged. There were no casualties.

A day of mourning was declared in Kryvyi Rih.

Eight people are known to have been injured in the morning shelling in Kryvyi Rih. Men aged 29 to 64 were hospitalised in moderate condition, a 54-year-old woman and an 18-year-old boy were injured and will be treated on an outpatient basis. The russian inhumans hit the infrastructure. High-rise buildings, 12 cars were damaged, and a fire broke out. A garage cooperative in the city was damaged. A city headquarters has been set up to help people from the affected buildings.

According to the updated information, 9 people were injured in the morning attack on Kryvyi Rih. 232 cars, 2 educational institutions, administrative buildings, a hostel, a service station and a petrol station were damaged. The occupiers carried out about a dozen attacks in Nikopol region during the day. They used artillery, kamikaze drones, and dropped ammunition from drones. They targeted the district centre, Pokrovska, Myrovka and Marhanets communities. Three multi-storey buildings, as many shops, a dentist’s office, a cafe, several private houses, an outbuilding, a car, a garage, gas pipelines and power lines were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast 

​​It became known that eight defenders from Vinnytsia oblast were killed. In particular, Viktor Vyshnivskyi, Oleksandr Belyuzhenko, Andrii Melnychuk, Oleksandr Paradovskyi, Dmytro Velychko, Ruslan Ohirchuk, Pavlo Kosakivskyi and Vladyslav Hutik.

The Vinnytsia Oblast Blood Service Centre urgently needs donors of all blood types. Donors with a negative Rh factor are especially needed. This is due to the intensification of military operations.

Vinnytsia residents won four medals at the Strong of Ukraine competition for veterans and military personnel. Armen Garibyan took first place in the bench press. Yaroslav Finogenov took first place in rowing and third place in bench press and kettlebell snatch.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andriy Shchetyna, Head of the Regional Department of Youth and Sports, announced that more than 750 residents of Kirovohrad oblast have registered to take part in the all-Ukrainian race “Honouring Soldiers, Running for Heroes of Ukraine” dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Fallen Defenders. More than 175 of those registered are from Kropyvnytskyi. 

Poltava oblast

A memorial plaque was installed on the facade of Lyceum No. 17 in Poltava in honour of soldier Dmytro Semka. The 25-year-old defender of Ukraine died on 28 July 2023 near the village of Urozhayne, Donetsk oblast. Dmytro said goodbye in Poltava in August 2023.

In Poltava, the defenders of Ukraine who died in the war with russia said goodbye. Viktor Medyanyk and Oleksandr Ilyin were soldiers, both of whom died in Kursk region in August 2024.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of the Regional State Administration, reported that all schools in Cherkasy region are provided with shelters. There are 463 of their own shelters on the balance sheet of 437 schools, and 166 shelters of other institutions are additionally used. Online learning is not provided in any of the schools in the oblast. 

 Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday, on 27 August, three people were killed and four others were injured due to a russian drone attack on Zaporizhzhia. In total, the occupiers carried out 205 strikes on nine settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. 117 drones of various modifications targeted Zaporizhzhia, Vidradne, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Huliaipole, Levadne, and Malynivka. Six MLRS strikes hit Huliaipole, Malynivka, and Robotyne. Additionally, 82 artillery strikes were reported in Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Levadne. Authorities received 87 reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure.

It is reported that four clashes occurred near Mala Tokmachka and Robotyne towards Orikhiv. The enemy had no success.

Two women with limited mobility were successfully evacuated from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and reunited with their families in Zaporizhzhia. Both women required constant care, and during the journey (both in the occupied territories and on Ukrainian-controlled land), they were accompanied by medical personnel who provided the necessary support.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, on 27 August, at 11am, the enemy shelled Kutsurub community using artillery. Additionally, the enemy twice shelled the city of Ochakiv and the waters of Ochakiv community. There were no casualties.

Odesa oblast

As of 6am, one enemy ship was present in the Black Sea, carrying up to four Kalibr cruise missiles. Additionally, two enemy ships were in the Mediterranean Sea.

Yesterday nine vessels passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea, and five vessels entered the Sea of Azov in the interests of the russian federation.

Kherson oblast

Today, russian forces attacked Dniprovskyi district in the city of Kherson, resulting in injuries to four people. A 55-year-old man is in serious condition, while a 65-year-old woman suffered blast trauma and leg injuries. Two others sought medical help on their own: an 87-year-old woman sustained blast trauma, a concussion, shrapnel wounds to her shin, and an open leg fracture, while a 61-year-old man is under medical observation.

On 27 August, the enemy attacked Kherson, Sadove, Kizomys, Antonivka, Poniativka, Prydniprovske, Mykilske, Novodmytrivka, Beryslav, Tiahynka, Mylove, Zmiivka, Olhivka, Havrylivka, Dudchany, Topolyne and Novooleksandrivka. The russian army’s actions on the right bank resulted in damage to 17 structures, including eight private homes, a gas station, five civilian and one police service vehicles, an ambulance, and a summer kitchen. Two people were killed and another 14 were injured due to russian aggression.

Volyn oblast

The RMA reported that an exhibition of works by students of Lutsk Art School Unbreakable Our Ukraine and works by teachers of the school created within the framework of the charity art project Vidlunia is on display at the Theater Maidan in Lutsk.

The RMA reported that in the new academic year, 92% of students in Volyn oblast will study offline.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Olena Zelenska, First Lady of Ukraine. They discussed acceptance, resettlement and life support of IDPs, psychosocial support and education of young people, programs and projects implemented in the oblast, specifically regarding the mental health of the population, etc.

The oblast met another evacuation train from Pokrovsk, Donetsk oblast. 78 people, 22 of them children, arrived in the oblast from the front-line city. Some families took their pets with them.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The oblast 4 sets of satellite Internet worth UAH 99,996; 5 DJI Mavic 3 Thermal quadcopters worth UAH 830,000 and 15 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters worth UAH 1,105,000 to the 42th Separate Mechanised Brigades thanks to the regional budget as part of the program to support military formations.

Ivano-Frankivsk community sent a Mavik and 20 FPV drones to the Military Guard Company and20 drones to the 710th Brigade to the Donetsk oblast.

The RMA held a meeting of the working group on humanitarian aid. Those present considered the appeal regarding the free transfer of ownership of passenger cars, recognized as humanitarian aid, to persons with disabilities, which such persons were provided with through the social protection bodies and used for over 10 years.

Lviv oblast

During the last exchange of prisoners, Rostyslav Holubets from Solonkiv community returned from the russian captivity. The soldier served in the National Guard of Ukraine in Mariupol. He was captured on 18 May 2022.

Volodymyr Piroh, military serviceman from Strii region, was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously). The award was presented by the defender’s mother. The soldier was killed on 23 December 2023, near the village of Sinkivka, Kharkiv oblast.

Primary schools (104 institutions) are provided with shelters by 100%, lyceums (536 institutions) by 97%, gymnasiums (410 institutions) by 98%. In preschool education institutions, face-to-face education is planned in 925 out of 936 institutions, and in 11 institutions – in a mixed format. The percentage of provision of shelters is 98%.

Rivne oblast

96% of schools in Rivne oblast are ready for full-time or mixed education. There are about 521 educational institutions of secondary education. They have anti-radiation shelters and storage facilities, their own simplest shelters (basements), a protected space on the 1st floor or an agreement on the use of shelters with other business entities. Another 21 schools, i.e. the remaining 4%, will work remotely. Of these, 4 private institutions conduct their educational process only in a distance format, 2 – complete the construction of shelters, 14 – do not have storage facilities and are located in a 20-km border zone.

All-Ukrainian veteran tournament Strong of Ukraine was held in Rivne oblast for the 2nd time. Over 200 veterans from 17 oblasts came to the final stage of the competition. Participants competed in rowing on a simulator, bench press, aerobikes and kettlebell jerk. The key judge of the competition is the People’s Deputy of Ukraine, the world champion in strongman Vasyl Virastiuk.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Pavol Panis, Consul General of the Slovak Republic in Uzhhorod. Economic ties between the Slovak Republic and Ternopil oblast were discussed.

The Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic was opened in Ternopil.

11 Ternopil servicemen will receive UAH 10,000 each for treatment and rehabilitation, for a total of UAH 110,000. In general, since the beginning of the year, 151 servicemen of the community have already received such assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that military training took place within Khmelnytskyi community.

Khmelnytskyi community sent 200 FPV drones worth UAH 2.5m to the military, namely 100 10-inch FPV drones with a reinforced battery and 100 7-inch FPV drones, thanks to the budget funds. In 8 months of this year, the community sent over 420 quadcopters; over 4,800 FPV drones and over 115 EW and PEP tools.

Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated UAH 25m for the military. The funds will be used for the purchase of UAVs, electronic devices and electronic devices.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi community received humanitarian aid, namely musical instruments from Anders David Banke, Swedish Director.

Ukraine received 3,000 bulletproof vests for emergency and communal services from Belgium. The bulletproof vests will protect the capital’s medics and workers of emergency and communal services during their assistance to victims of russian attacks, during the liquidation of the consequences of shelling.

Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, met with Oleksandr Soros, American businessman, philanthropist, Head of the Open Society Foundation network. They discussed the implementation of the Peace Formula, namely the points regarding energy and nuclear security, food security, and the release of all captured and deported Ukrainians.

Jens Stoltenberg convenes the Ukraine-NATO Council on 28 August at the request of Kyiv. The meeting will take place at the level of ambassadors. Rustem Umyerov, Defense Minister of Ukraine, is scheduled to speak via video link during the Council and inform allies about the situation at the front and priority needs for forces and assets.
