War in Ukraine today: latest news, 19 July 2026 (photo)

It has been the 1607  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 19 July, the aggressor attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 60 times.

Artillery shelling of border areas continues. In Sumy oblast, the settlements of Tovstodubove, Neskuchne, Hirky, Ryzhivka, Volfyne, Pustohorod, Bunyakyne, Sukhodil, Ulanove, Chuikivka, Khodyne, Bachivsk, Iskryskivshchyna, Korenok, and Luzhky were affected; in Chernihiv oblast – Kliusy, Dibrova, and Bohdanove.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy launched two airstrikes using six guided aerial bombs and carried out 25 attacks on settlements and positions of Ukrainian troops.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the invaders made seven attempts to break through the defense towards Hoptivka, and in the vicinity of Lyman, Starytsia, and Prylipka. One engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, there were no enemy offensive operations.

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian warriors repelled six attempts by the invaders to advance in the vicinity of Novomykhailivka and Drobysheve, and towards Shyikivka, Lyman, and Ozerne. Three attacks are still ongoing.

Towards Sloviansk, the Defense Forces repelled 14 enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Zakitne, Kryva Luka, and Riznykivka, and towards Pyskunivka and Rai-Oleksandrivka. One engagement is still ongoing.

Towards Kramatorsk, russian invaders launched one attack in the vicinity of Nykyforivka.

Towards Kostiantynivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled seven attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, and Ivanopillia. One engagement is ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, since the beginning of the day, the occupiers have made 15 attempts to push Ukrainian warriors out of their positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Toretske, Udachne, and Filiya, and towards Kucheriv Yar, Novyi Donbas, Bilytske, Svitle, Shevchenko, and Novopidhorodne.

Towards Oleksandrivka, there were no enemy offensive operations.

Towards Huliaipole, the Defense Forces repelled seven enemy attacks in the vicinity of Zaliznychne and towards Dobropillia, Tsvitkove, and Vozdvizhivka.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy once assaulted the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinity of Shcherbaky.

Towards Kherson, there were no enemy offensive operations.

There are currently no significant changes in the situation in other directions. No attempts by the enemy to advance have been recorded.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Over the past day, there were 249 combat engagements. Towards Southern Sloboda, russian troops attacked the positions of the Defense Forces ten times towards Izbytske and Khatnye, and in the vicinity of Starytsia and Prylipka. Towards Kupiansk, the enemy carried out one offensive operation towards Radkivka.

Shelling

Around 09:22, russian troops struck the central part of Izium. A hit was recorded on a five-story residential building. According to updated data, five apartment buildings and 20 cars were damaged. The number of casualties rose to 17 people, including a young boy. All victims are receiving the necessary medical assistance.

russian troops also attacked the suburbs of Kharkiv. According to preliminary data, three people were killed. As of 12:30, the number of casualties rose to 16. Nine people were hospitalized, three of whom are in serious condition.

According to Kharkiv RMA, over the past day, russian troops shelled 24 settlements in the oblast. Two people were killed and 20 others were injured. The enemy used three MLRS, 17 guided aerial bombs, two Geran-2 UAVs, one Lancet UAV, 18 “Molniya” drones, nine FPV drones, and 38 more drones of other types.

In Slatyne, a 35-year-old woman was killed, and five other people, including an eight-year-old girl, were injured. In Bohodukhiv, following a Molniya drone strike on a truck, a 65-year-old man died after suffering an acute stress reaction. Residents of Izium, Dergachi, Kotivka, Zolochiv, and Kalynove were also injured.

Residential buildings, cars, railway infrastructure, educational institutions, a post office, an outpatient clinic, civilian enterprises, power grids, a livestock complex, agricultural machinery, and other civilian infrastructure facilities sustained damage in Bohodukhiv, Kupyansk, Izium, Kharkiv, and Chuhuiv regions.

Evacuation and other

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 158 people over the day. In total, since the launch of the point, 46,502 people have been evacuated and registered.

In Kharkiv, a memorial stele was unveiled for police officer Denys Kotliar, who was killed in March 2025 while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

Over the past day, the Defense Forces repelled 25 russian assaults towards Kostiantynivka. Fighting continued near Kostiantynivka, Illinivka, Rusyn Yar, and Shakhove, as well as towards Kucheriv Yar and Dovha Balka.

Towards Pokrovsk, the Ukrainian military stopped 33 enemy attacks, and 28 towards Sloviansk.

The Defense Forces also struck a road bridge in the vicinity of Novoekonomichne, Donetsk oblast, which the russian army used for military logistics.

Shelling

Since the beginning of the day on July 19, russian troops have attacked Sloviansk five times. As a result of the shelling, a 57-year-old man was injured. He was provided with medical assistance on an outpatient basis.

According to the police, during July 18, russian troops carried out 1,459 attacks against the frontline and the residential sector of Donetsk oblast. 11 settlements were under fire. Five people were killed, and six others were injured. 113 civilian objects were damaged, including 48 residential buildings.

russian troops launched 17 strikes against Kramatorsk, ten of them with air bombs. Three people were killed, and two others were injured. 26 apartment buildings, a dormitory, an educational institution, shopping pavilions, office and non-residential premises, garages, a car wash, a tire repair shop, infrastructure facilities, and 15 cars were damaged.

Druzhkivka was attacked with a KAB-250 air bomb and FPV drones. Two people were killed, and an apartment building and nine private houses were damaged. One person was injured each in Mykolaivka and Sviatohorivka.

In Bilenke, two people were injured, and five private houses were damaged. In Sloviansk, as a result of strikes by a KAB-250 and three drones, five private houses and an educational institution were damaged.

In Donetske, seven private houses were damaged, in Raihorodok — three, in Shabelkivka — a private house and a poultry farm, in Bilozerse — a private house.

Other

Four Ukrainian artists worked with displaced persons from Donetsk oblast, collecting their memories, personal stories, and archives. Based on these, a VR project, a photo exhibition, a musical piece, and an art book were created within the framework of the “Heritage” residency program.

Luhansk oblast

Robert Brovdi, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, call sign Madyar reports that operators of the 20th Separate Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces “K-2” struck electrical substations in the vicinity of Bila Hora and Bezgynove in Luhansk oblast on the night of July 19. Another energy infrastructure facility — an electrical substation near Zemlianky in Donetsk oblast — was attacked by service members of the 4th Battalion of the 414th Separate Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces “Birds of Madyar”.

russian troops carried out 14 shellings of the positions of the Ukrainian military in Luhansk oblast. Nine attacks using FPV drones and other UAVs, four mortar shellings, and one strike from tube artillery were recorded. Towards Lyman, the Defense Forces repelled 14 attempts by the enemy to wedge into the Ukrainian defense.

Residents of temporarily occupied Rubizhne have lacked stable telephone communications and the ability to properly call emergency services for four years. Appeals to restore at least landline communications were redirected by occupation structures to “Roskomnadzor,” but the agency confined itself to a formal reply and a demand to provide additional documents.

In occupied Luhansk oblast, the transport crisis is deepening due to a fuel deficit and a shortage of buses. Connections along the “Lutuhyne — Alchevsk” route have been suspended for at least a week. The only bus operating in this direction was redirected to the “Lutuhyne — Luhansk” route.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The latest terrorist attack using ballistic missiles has struck Kyiv and the oblast. One person has been killed and 16 injured. In total, eight apartment buildings and one detached house in Kyiv and the oblast have been damaged, with around fifteen private cars destroyed. Damage has been caused to private businesses, and administrative buildings have been affected. Around 600 rescue workers and 145 pieces of equipment are working to clear up the aftermath of the night-time attack.

Significant damage was recorded near the ‘Kyivska Rus’ cinema in Kyiv following the overnight russian attack. The building next to the cinema was affected the most: the blast wave destroyed part of the second floor and the roof, shattered the windows and damaged the façade. The prosecutor’s office building, residential blocks opposite and more than ten cars were also affected, some of them burned out. The strike also damaged the tram infrastructure: the tracks are littered with debris and the overhead lines have been wrecked.

Overnight, one of the largest logistics centres near Kyiv was destroyed, as were a factory and warehouses belonging to the Ukrainian company UKRTAC, a major manufacturer of military equipment. The strike destroyed a warehouse at the AMTEL logistics complex, covering an area of over 100,000 square metres. Hundreds of thousands of parcels, medicines, humanitarian aid and goods intended for millions of people were destroyed.

Two people were injured as a result of the massive enemy attack in the Bucha district. A woman suffered smoke inhalation. After being examined by doctors, she was discharged home. A man with multiple shrapnel wounds to his body was admitted to the regional hospital. The enemy attack also damaged warehouse facilities and caused fires. Rescue workers, medics, police and all necessary emergency services are working at the scene. Efforts to deal with the damage and assess the extent of the destruction are ongoing.

 

Zhytomyr oblast

On 19 July, around six thousand worshippers gathered in Berdychiv for the pilgrimage celebrations at the All-Ukrainian Shrine of Our Lady of the Holy Scapular. The event was attended by pilgrims, clergy, diplomats and guests from Ukraine and abroad, who prayed for Ukrainian soldiers, prisoners of war, the wounded, deported children and fallen defenders. The guest of honour was Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Special Envoy of Pope Leo XIV. He presided over the solemn Holy Mass, attended by bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, the Apostolic Nuncio Visvaldas Kulbokas and the Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

Sumy oblast

On the morning of 19 July, russian army launched what are believed to be seven strikes using guided aerial bombs on Sumy. Hits were recorded in Kovpakivskyi district. A residential area, an industrial zone, commercial premises, a service station and a car wash were damaged.

A man with a disability,who was at home during the attack, was killed. Three other people were hospitalised. Rescue workers carried out search operations at the sites of the strikes.

According to the municipal utility ‘Miskvodokanal’, Due to the strikes and power cuts, one of Sumy’s water intake points has lost power since 08:50am.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, russian troops attacked 25 settlements in the oblast over the past 24 hours. One man was killed and three more injured. Fifteen drone strikes and one attack by a long-range multiple launch rocket system were registered. Two further drone attacks took place during the night of 19 July.

In Sumy community, civilian infrastructure, medical facilities, an administrative building, blocks of flats and vehicles were damaged. In Esman, Hlukhiv, Yampil, Mykolaiv (settlement), Bilopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Seredina-Buda, Shostka, Nova Sloboda, Znob-Novgorodske, Nedryhailiv and Bereziv communities, residential buildings, farm buildings, educational and medical facilities, a library, administrative and non-residential buildings, vehicles and other civilian infrastructure were damaged or destroyed. Chernihiv oblast

The State Emergency Service reported that a russian drone attacked an enterprise in Koriukivka on the morning of 18 July. The business’s production facilities were destroyed. Firefighters extinguished the blaze.

An FPV drone struck a bakery in Semenivka on 18 July. The fire was extinguished.

A Molniya UAV struck the yard of a house in a village of Novhorod-Siverskyi community, damaging the roof of the residential building. In another village, the enemy struck a house of culture.

A Herbera UAV strike in a village of Snovsk community set 1.5 hectares of dry grass on fire.

On 18 July, russian forces attacked Chernihiv by Heran UAVs. Two enterprises were hit. At least 15 vehicles and equipment were destroyed or damaged.

A Heran UAV struck an enterprise in the settlement of Berezna. Hangars caught fire and a lorry was destroyed.

Pavlo Miroshnychenko, Head of Koriukivka Regional Military Administration, said that russian forces attacked Koriukivka region on 18 July. The attacks damaged a building in Pereliub village, hit telecommunications infrastructure in Novi Borovychi village, and sparked a forest fire on the outskirts of Snovsk.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, reported that russian forces attacked the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Marhanets and Pokrovske city communities by drones. Private residential houses and vehicles were damaged.

A UAV attack on Mezhove community destroyed a private residential house and damaged other homes. One person was killed.

Enemy forces struck Vasylkivska community by seven guided aerial bombs and UAVs. The attack caused a fire and destroyed a garage. Five private residential houses, a gymnasium, two outbuildings, another garage, a disused building and infrastructure were damaged. A UAV attack in Dubovyky community set a wheat field on fire.

Four people were injured in Pokrovske rural community. The enemy also attacked the regional centre, Chervonohryhorivka, Marhanets and Myrove communities by drones and artillery. Fires broke out. An apartment building, eight private residential houses, an enterprise, three outbuildings, a gas pipeline and seven vehicles were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

A personalised memorial event was held in Vinnytsia to honour fallen Ukrainian defenders: combat medic and reconnaissance soldier Oleh Siryi (call sign “Siryi”) of the 77th Separate Airmobile Brigade, and platoon commander Ihor Shymanskyi (call sign “Shaman”) of the 4th Operational Brigade Rubizh

Poltava oblast

A charity dance event was held in central Poltava to raise funds for a vehicle for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

The event is also raising money to build casevac vehicles for evacuating casualties from the front line.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 19 July, russian forces carried out guided aerial bomb (KAB) strikes on Zaporizhzhia. The attacks hit a private residential area, where a fire broke out, as well as a five-story apartment building. According to  Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA,two people were killed and at least ten were injured. A woman and a child remain trapped under the rubble of the building.

On 19 July, a russian drone struck a passenger train in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia) reported that a train conductor sustained minor injuries in the attack.

Today, russian forces attacked Vilniansk twice with drones. First, an FPV drone struck the roof of a residential apartment building. Then, while firefighters were extinguishing the blaze, russian forces launched a second drone strike, hitting a Red Cross ambulance.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 18 July, russian occupation forces launched 1,041 strikes on 54 settlements across Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian troops carried out 25 airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia, Novomykolaivka, Zarichne, Hryhorivka, Novooleksandrivka, Novoivanivka, Novotroitske, Yuliivka, Nizhenka, Veselianka, Orikhiv, Novosoloshyne, Tymoshivka, Liubytske, Yehorivka, Chervona Krynytsia, and Svoboda. 729 drones of various types, mostly FPV drones, targeted Zaporizhzhia, Vilniansk, Kushuhum, Komyshuvakha, Stepne, Hryhorivka, Veselyi Hai, Novooleksandrivka, Zhovta Krucha, Kanivske, Ukrainka, Richne, Veselianka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Orikhiv, Zaliznychne, Preobrazhenka, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Charivne, Novoselivka, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Verkhnia Tersa, Vozdvyzhivka, Tsvitkove, Kosivtseve, Rybne, Dobropillia, Pryluky, Nove Zaporizhzhia, and Ternuvate. One MLRS strike hit Shcherbaky. russian forces also carried out 286 artillery strikes on Hryhorivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Mali Shcherbaky, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, Charivne, Huliaipilske, Hirke, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Tsvitkove, Dobropillia, Pryluky, and Rybne. Authorities received 126 reports of damage to infrastructure, homes, vehicles, and utility buildings. Thirteen people, including two children, were injured in russian strikes on Zaporizhzhia and Zaporizhzhia region.

According to the General Staff, on 19 July, Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled seven russian attacks towards Huliaipole near Zaliznychne, Dobropillia, Tsvitkove, and Vozdvyzhivka. It is reported that russian forces launched one assault on Ukrainian positions near Shcherbaky towards Orikhiv. On 18 July Ukrainian defenders repelled five russian attacks towards Huliaipole and six more towards Orikhiv.

During the night of 19 July, Ukraine’s Defense Forces struck a russian Buk surface-to-air missile system in Zaporizhzhia oblast. According to the military command, the Buk system was detected and destroyed near the settlement of Zelenopillia. The air defense system provided air cover for russian occupation forces and posed a direct threat to Ukrainian aircraft and drones.

Mykolaiv oblast

On 19 July, russian forces attacked Halytsynove community. Two people were injured, and a vehicle was damaged.

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 18 July, russian forces attacked the region with Shahed and Gerbera strike drones, targeting energy infrastructure.

It is reported that russian forces carried out four FPV drone attacks on Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities yesterday. They also launched what was preliminarily identified as an MLRS strike on Kutsurub community. No casualties were reported.

Odesa oblast

Odesa Regional Military Administration reported that today russian forces launched a missile strike on Odesa. A crater was left at the impact site. According to preliminary information, one person was injured. Several vehicles were damaged.

According to Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa RMA,  russian attacks on Odesa oblast over the past week have killed 18 people and injured 69 others, including six children. russian forces launched around 300 aerial weapons at the region. He stated that Odesa oblast is under constant combined attacks involving drones and various types of missiles. In recent days, there have been at least 10 air raid alerts per day in the region.

Search and rescue operations at the site of the russian strike on an amusement park on 18 July were completed. A 16-year-old boy was killed in the attack, while 12 people were injured, including a two-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson RMA, at around 11:40 am, russian forces killed a man in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district. A 58-year-old Kherson resident sustained fatal injuries in a drone strike. Additionally, a 21-year-old man suffered a blast injury and a shrapnel wound to his leg.

The Police of Kherson oblast reported that today the russian army carried out an airstrike on one of the settlements in Bilozerka community. Four russian guided aerial bombs struck civilian homes. A local woman was killed, and four other people were injured.

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that at around 12:00 pm, russian forces struck a civilian vehicle with a drone in Molodizhne. Two people were injured. A 43-year-old woman sustained a blast injury and head injuries, while a 77-year-old man suffered a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his shoulders.

A 51-year-old man required medical assistance after being injured in a russian drone attack in Kherson’s Dniprovskyi district. He sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his arm.

A resident of Charivne sought medical treatment after being attacked by a russian drone. The 36-year-old man was riding a moped when the strike occurred. He sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wounds to his head, arm, and leg.

At around 8:20 am, russian forces attacked Kherson’s Korabelnyi district with a drone. A 57-year-old man sustained blast injuries, a closed traumatic brain injury, and a concussion.

A 50-year-old Kherson resident who was injured in a russian drone attack on the city’s Korabelnyi district earlier this morning was taken to hospital. She sustained a blast injury.

A 50-year-old woman also sought medical assistance after coming under a russian drone attack in Kherson’s Korabelnyi district the previous evening. She was diagnosed with a blast injury, a concussion, and an acute stress reaction.

According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, yesterday, 18 July, the russian forces attacked Rakivka, Komyshany, Charivne, Urozhaine, Kostyrka, Novovorontsovka, Stanislav, Novovoskresenske, Dudchany, Borozenske, Kucherske, Zelenivka, Tavriiske, Krasnosilske, Novoraisk, Antonivka, Ponyativka, Sofiivka, Mykilske, Shevchenkivka, Tryfonivka, Khreshchenivka, Bilohirka, Oleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Hrozove, Zorivka, Kachkarivka, Kozatske, Lvove, Mykolaivka, Mylove, Mykhailivka, Nezlamne, Novokairy, Odradokamianka, Sablukivka, Sadove, Tekstylne, Tokarivka, Tomaryne, Inzhenerne, and the city of Kherson. The attacks damaged 11 apartment buildings, nine private homes, an outbuilding, mobile communications towers, an ambulance, and private vehicles. Twenty-five people, including four children, were injured as a result of russian aggression.

Volyn oblast

Zabolotov community sent an electronic warfare device Chuika to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA reported that the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously) was awarded to soldier Denys Vydnyanskyi.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Rescuers and police officers from Kalush organized a large-scale interactive training for over 50 children vacationing at the Limnytsia children’s camp in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. During the class, students had the opportunity to practice modeling various emergency events and learn algorithms for action in the event of a fire, traffic accident or other threats.

Lviv oblast

The RMA reported that during the event, representatives of the State Border Service of Ukraine presented the family of the fallen Defender of Ukraine Anatolii Tsisinsky with a state award – the For Military Service to Ukraine medal (posthumously).

Rivne oblast

Rivne oblast is developing a network of Defense of Ukraine centers. The training has reached almost 26,000 high school students.

Ternopil oblast

A soldier from Ternopil community who returned from captivity will receive a one-time financial assistance from the city council in the amount of UAH 50,000. This year, 7 Ternopil servicemen who returned from captivity have already received the funds, and during 2025, 13 defenders.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

A large-scale festival Veteran City Sport 2026 – Sport in Every Community was held in Khmelnytskyi oblast. Dozens of sports and interactive locations were open throughout the day. A separate part of the festival was an exhibition of veteran businesses, where veterans presented their own businesses. There were creative workshops and leisure areas for children.

Chernivtsi oblast

Defender Oleksandr Dzekh has returned to Chahorsk community from russian captivity. The soldier has been there since August 2024.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Lithuania has raised €9m to provide solar panels for schools and hospitals in Ukraine. €5m was raised earlier. Another €4m in such aid was announced at the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdansk.
