It has been the 977th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

The situation at the front remains tense. The enemy, despite the significant losses inflicted by our defenders, continues attempts to break through the defences of Ukrainian troops.

A total of 84 combat engagements have taken place since the beginning of the day.

Today, hostile artillery shelling from the territory of russia hit the areas of Khrinivka, Bleshnya, Vorobyivka in Chernihiv oblast; Korenok, Basivka, Novenke, Obody, Oleksandrivka, Boyar-Lezhachi, Velyka Berizka, Starykove, Lisne, Stepanivka, Chernatske in Sumy oblast. In addition, the enemy conducted air strikes on the areas of Stepne, Bilovody, Basivka and Yunakivka in Sumy oblast, dropping a total of 12 aircraft bombs.

The enemy also struck at its own territory, according to available information, today the russians carried out 15 air strikes in Kursk oblast, using 18 air bombs.

Towards Kharkiv, russian invaders stormed the defensive lines of Ukrainian troops twice in the area of Vovchansk, and our defenders repelled the attacks.

Towards Kupyansk, the enemy actively attacked the positions of our troops 13 times in the areas of Kindrashivka, Synkivka, Kolisnykivka, Kruglyakivka, Lozova, Zahryzove, Pershotravneve and Vyshneve. Ukrainian troops are holding steadfastly, with six firefights still ongoing. The situation is under control.

Towards Liman, the invading army launched nine attacks on Ukrainian positions near Cherneshchyna, Novomykhailivka, Makiivka, Terny, Zarichne, Serebryanka and Hryhorivka.

Towards Kramatorsk, the invaders carried out two assault operations with the support of army aviation near Orikhovo-Vasylivka.

Towards Toretsk, the russians tried to force our units out of their positions near Shcherbynivka and New York, where the Defence Forces repelled four attacks. The occupants are actively using aviation in this area, in particular, the areas of Oleksandr-Kalynove and Romanivka are being bombed.

Since the beginning of the day in the Pokrovsk area, the enemy has already made 15 attempts to push our defenders from their positions in the areas of Myroliubivka, Promin, Krutyi Yar and Selydove. The defence forces are holding back the onslaught and have so far repelled ten enemy attacks. The enemy’s losses are being clarified.

Fighting continues near Novoselidivka, Novodmitrivka, Kurakhivka, Maksymilianivka, Antonivka, Kurakhove and Katerynivka in the Kurakhivka sector. According to the updated information, 19 attacks by the occupation army were repelled today, and two attacks are ongoing.

Towards Vremivsk, an attack in the area of Novoukrainka continues, and the enemy dropped four guided aerial bombs in the area of Velyka Novosilka.

Towards Huliaipole and Orikhiv areas, the invaders actively used aviation, for example, in the area of Mala Tokmachka, the enemy dropped 12 unmanned aerial vehicles and struck Bilohirya twice with 40 unguided aerial missiles.

Towards Prydniprovia, the enemy tried three times to drive Ukrainian troops from their positions without success.


Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that the russian troops highly probably shot two civilian women in Selydove. The occupation army also shot a civilian car with two local residents in it.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, announced that during the week, russia used more than 1,100 guided aerial bombs, more than 560 attack drones and about 20 missiles of various types against Ukraine. He also noted that Ukraine is working hard with its partners to stop the enemy, strengthen Ukraine and provide maximum protection to the Ukrainian people.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that towards Kharkiv, russian occupants stormed the defensive lines of Ukrainian troops near Vovchansk twice.

Towards Kupiansk, the russian army actively attacked the positions of Ukrainian units 13 times in the areas of Kindrashivka, Synkivka, Kolisnykivka, Kruhliakivka, Lozova, Zahryzove, Pershotravneve and Vyshneve. As of 16:00, six firefights are still ongoing.

On October 27, at 03:40, Izium region, Borova TC, Borova village was shelled. 2 houses were partially destroyed.

The day before at 21:20 Chuhuiv district, Malynivka TC, the village of Malynivka was shelled. The shelling damaged a granary warehouse.

At 12:55 Kharkiv district, Rohan TC was struck the open territory between the village of Rohan and the village of Svitanok. There were no casualties. 

At 12:18 Chuhuiv district, Starosaltivska TC, the village of Radkove was shelled. The shelling destroyed a house and damaged 2 outbuildings. An 84-year-old man was injured, a 65-year-old civilian killed.

At 10:40 Izium district, Borova TC, the village of Zahryzove was shelled. The shelling destroyed a house.

Seven clashes with russian invaders occurred towards Kharkiv. All attacks in the areas of Vovchansk and Starytsia were repelled by Ukrainian troops.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried 13 times to force AFU units out of their positions near Kindrashivka, Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kruhlyakivka, Zahryzove, Vyshneve, Berestove and Pershotravneve. Two attacks are still ongoing. 

116 people (including 6 children) were evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova overnight within intensified evacuation.

Donetsk oblast

Ukrainian Armed Forces General Staff reported that the russian army continues to try to capture Selydove. Over the past day, russian troops conducted 41 attacks in the Pokrovsk sector, most of them near the town of Selydove.  

The occupiers conducted 43 attacks towards Kurakhove over the past day, concentrating their efforts near Antonivka and Katerynivka. They also attacked near Novoselydivka, Hostre, Dalnie, and Yelyzavetivka.  

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian troops repelled 18 russian attacks.  

Nazar Voitenkov, acting press officer of the 33rd separate mechanised brigade said that over the past month, russian occupants have been successful towards Kurakhove near the villages of Maksymilianivka and Kostiantynivka, but the frontline is not moving.  

Ukrainian troops are constantly training, particularly, they are practicing combat in urban areas in case the occupation army manages to approach the town of Kurakhove.

According to Roman Padun, Head of the Kurakhove CMA, the number of wounded due to shelling of Sontsivka increased to two as of the morning of 27 October. Over the past day, the occupants shelled Uspenivka, Kurakhove, Stari Terny, Vovchenka, Illinka, and Stepanivka, among others.  As a result of an air strike on Uspenivka, russian troops damaged 11 private houses and an educational institution, and hit a cultural institution.

Donetsk regional police said on its website informs that one of the four police officers who were injured in the attack on Kostiantynivka yesterday is in grave condition.  

Over the past day, the russian army shelled eight localities in the region and damaged 70 civilian objects.

The occupiers attacked Kostyantynivka with two aerial bombs, and Kurakhove with drones. The russian military also shelled the village of Konstiantynopol with a Tornado-S multiple rocket launcher system yesterday, damaging three private houses and a car.

Vitalii Milovidov, a spokesman for the 15th Operational Brigade of the Kara-Dag National Guard, reported that the russian military is trying to surround Selydove from the south to force the Defence Forces to retreat from the town. The occupants are storming the village of Vyshneve.

Andrii Polukhin, a spokesman for the 24th Brigade reported that separate small infantry groups are crossing the canal in Chasiv Yar, but the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using drones to control their supply and reinforcement routes, which is why the occupiers remain blocked and destroyed.

Operational situation in the region as of the morning of 27 October:

Pokrovsk region. In Kurakhove, the town centre and industrial area were shelled; in Sontsivka, 2 people were wounded and 2 administrative buildings were damaged; in Uspenivka, 11 houses and 3 administrative buildings were damaged.

Kramatorsk region. A house was damaged in Ridkodub of Lyman TC, and 3 in Zakitne. A person was killed in Raihorodok of Mykolaivka TC; a house and 3 vehicles were damaged in Malynivka. In Kostiantynivka, 1 person died and 3 were injured, 10 private houses, 2 multi-story buildings, 2 administrative buildings, 9 non-residential buildings, 26 cars, 2 gas pipelines, and 2 power lines were damaged; 4 houses were damaged in Markove.

Bakhmut region. A person was wounded in Toretsk, a house was damaged. In Chasiv Yar TC, 10 private houses, 2 multi-story buildings and 2 industrial buildings were damaged. In Siversk, 2 administrative buildings and industrial premises were damaged; a house was damaged in Serebrianka.

Over the past day, russians fired 9 times at settlements in Donetsk region; 101 people, including 16 children, were evacuated.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Donetsk Military Administration reported that 2 residents of Donetsk region were killed: in Kostiantynivka and Mykolaivka. Another 9 people were wounded in the region over the day. 

Luhansk oblast

Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported that a unit of the Phoenix air defence system of the Revenge Brigade of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus killed six occupants and wounded five others in the vicinity of Kreminna. Luhansk border guards also destroyed a 120-mm mortar, three artillery positions, seven military trucks, and four ammunition depots.

The enemy continues assault operations in Bilohorivka. Over the last day alone, they tried to advance there twice, but was stopped both times by the Ukrainian Defence Forces. Near Makiivka and Hrekivka, the russians attacked from air. They also fired at our fortifications and settlements with cannon artillery and used unmanned aerial vehicles.

With the approach of cold weather, the occupiers’ statements about switching on the heating in Siverskodonetsk and other frontline cities are becoming louder. Most of the heating networks there have not yet been repaired. In some places, the invaders have not even started restoration work in 2.5 years, and in some places, the streets of Siverskodonetsk are still cut. During these months, the invaders have not carried out a single hydraulic test. As a result, the in-building networks failed.

Artem Lysohor, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration reported that according to the instructions from the top, when recruiting to law enforcement agencies in the so-called ‘lpr’, preference is given to people who came from the territory of the russian federation. This is especially true for the chief positions. Over the past two years, the percentage of local employees has been steadily decreasing. Currently, kremlin is considering a bill aimed at increasing the possibility of staffing the internal affairs bodies in the occupied territories by introducing additional incentives for ‘true’ russians who want to move to work in the ‘luhansk people’s republic’ and other occupied regions.

Towards Lyman-Kupiansk direction, soldiers of the anti-aircraft missile and artillery division of the Rubizh brigade destroyed a russian SuperCam reconnaissance drone. These drones are capable of flying 50-100 kilometres from the launch point and conducting aerial reconnaissance.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Ruslan Kravchenko, head of the RMA, reported that at night the enemy attacked Kyiv oblast with drones. A private house and 2 cars were damaged as a result of falling debris in one of the districts. Windows were smashed in the house and the fence was damaged. The forest floor also caught fire. There were no casualties among the population.

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko informed that experts in the capital have begun to examine a multi-storey building in Solomianskyi district, which was hit by a russian military drone attack on 26 October. A child was killed and six people were injured. Work is underway to reconnect the building’s electricity supply, which was cut off while the fire was being extinguished, and to prepare for the restoration of the destroyed apartments.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitalii Klychko, announced that this year Kyiv has already allocated UAH 8.6 billion to help the military. More than 12,000 UAVs of various types have been sent to the frontline. The capital has also sent more than 100 new vehicles.

The capital has approved the procedure for paying UAH 45,000 in financial assistance to wounded Kyiv residents – defenders of Ukraine. To receive the assistance, individuals or their representatives must submit a written application and a package of documents to the Department of Social and Veteran Policy through the Kyiv Military Hub.

The Run4Victory charity race took place on Trukhaniv Island in Kyiv. It was organised in support of the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”. The race brought together athletes, military personnel and everyone, regardless of their level of training, to support and help the Ukrainian military.

Zhytomyr oblast

The State Emergency Service of Zhytomyr oblast reported the destruction of five munitions in Korosten district on 25 October. All items were destroyed by controlled explosion in a specially designated place

On 26 October, another reminder rally was held in Zhytomyr in support of captive and missing soldiers. More than a hundred people gathered on Korolyov Square and went to Kyivska and Mykhailivska streets with placards. The peaceful action was held under the slogan “Don’t let anyone forget their names”.

Oksana Trybun, a psychologist from Berdychiv, published a collection of “fairy tales in a shelter”, which was born during the war. The author uses fairy tales to teach children self-regulation techniques. According to the author, fairy tales help children and adults find solace in difficult times, realise their inner resources and cope with emotions.

The Zhytomyr Regional Philharmonic took in a three-month-old purebred puppy Bas from the East. He was born in a medical unit of the Azov Brigade’s Special Forces battalion. The rescued dog was examined by a veterinarian and given all the necessary vaccinations. For more than a week now, Bas has been cheering up the Philharmonic staff who take care of him and happily welcoming guests to the Philharmonic.

Sumy oblast

 On 27 October, the enemy carried out an air strike on critical energy infrastructure in Romny region, using Shahed-type drones. All necessary services are working on-site, and the consequences of the attack are being clarified.

According to Sumy Regional Military Administration, during air defence operations, combat crews from the Ukrainian Ground Forces, along with volunteers, destroyed three russian drones.

During night and morning, russians carried out 37 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 48 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka Myropilia, Richky, Bilopillia, Shalyhyne, Esman, Yampil communities, Romny region. The enemy conducted strikes using artillery (9 explosions), mortars (5 explosions), FPV-drones (3 explosions), Geran-2 drones (3 explosions), and guided aerial bombs (5 explosions).

 Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that as a result of enemy attacks during the night and morning of 27 October, one person was injured in Sumy community. Residential buildings caught fire in Khotyn and Yampil communities, and a private residential building was damaged in Richky community.

According to the State Emergency Service of Sumy oblast, during the night, firefighters extinguished three fires caused by enemy strikes. Two fires were brought under control in two settlements of Sumy region, and another house fire was contained in a settlement in Shostka region.

During the last day russians carried out 41 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 111 explosions. The attacks targeted Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Vrlyka Pysarivka, Shalyhyne, Esman, Svesa communities.

Bilopillia community: shelling by FPV-drones (2 explosions), dropping of explosive devices from UAVs (2 explosions), mortar shelling (3 explosions).

Yunakivka community: the enemy hit by artillery (25 explosions), GAB (7 explosions).

Krasnopillia community: the russians dropped 9 mines on the territory of the community.

Velyka Pysarivka community: the enemy hit by artillery (18 explosions) and mortars (10 explosions), dropped an explosive device from an unmanned aerial vehicle (1 explosion).

Esman community: fired by FPV-drones (5 explosions).

Hlukhiv community: an FPV-drone attack (1 explosion).

Shalyhyne community: russians dropped 15 mines on the territory of the community. There were also attacks by FPV-drones (3 explosions).

Svesa community: shelling by FPV-drones (4 explosions), artillery shelling (4 explosions).

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported  that in Sumy oblast, the combat capabilities of volunteer formations are being strengthened. On 26 October, he met with leaders of the territorial defence units of the regional centre. The discussion focused on enhancing air defence coverage for critical and civilian infrastructure in Sumy and the oblast, preparing additional mobile fire groups for air defence, and ensuring they are equipped with necessary weapons and technology.

Chernihiv oblast

The regional police informed that as result of a russian drone attack on the border areas of Chernihiv oblast, a 34-year-old man was injured. The russian army also targeted a private property in a village within Novhorod-Siverskyi community by a drone. The attack destroyed a garage and a civilian car. 

The Northern Border division of the State Border Guard Service reported on 26 October that in the skies over the Chernihiv oblast, servicemembers of the 105th Border Detachment named after Prince Volodymyr the Great destroyed a drone carrying explosives from russia into Ukrainian territory. Upon hit, the downed drone detonated and shattered into pieces, leaving a crater on the ground.

State Border Guard Service of Ukraine informed that during the last day, on 26 October, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk , and Horodnia communities.

Novhorod-Siverskyi community: six hits by a mortar on Mykhalchyna-Sloboda village.

Semenivka community: seven hits by a mortar on Hremiachka village; two FPV-drone strikes on Leonivka village; four drops of explosive devices from UAVs on HalaHanivka village.

Snovsk community: three mortar strikes on Khrinivka village; three mortar strikes on Kliusy village; four hits by a self-propelled artillery installation on Khrinivka village.

Horodnia community: 54 hits by a mortar and a rack-mounted automatic grenade launcher, two shots by FPV-drones on Senkivka village.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk City Council, reported that in the evening and at night, the enemy continued attacks in Nikopol region.   They attacked with kamikaze drones and fired from multiple rocket launchers, targeting Nikopol and the Marganets community. The enterprise was damaged.

In the morning, the occupiers shelled the Marhanets community with artillery. The consequences are being investigated.  According to updated information, two people were injured in attacks on 27 October in the area — a 26-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man.

Throughout the day, the occupiers were bombarding Nikopol region — they carried out more than two dozen attacks with kamikaze drones, artillery, and dropped ammunition from drones. They targeted Nikopol, Pokrov, Myrove and Marhanets communities. Two multi-storey buildings, an enterprise, 8 private houses, 3 outbuildings, 3 garages, infrastructure, a power line and gas pipelines were damaged. The enemy also launched a kamikaze drone at the Zelenodolsk community in Kryvyi Rih region. The damage was recorded on the territory of the enterprise.

Vinnytsia oblast

A memorial plaque was unveiled in Kozyatyn, Vinnytsia region, in honour of the fallen defender Ilya Zavalny, who died on 19 May 2023, his birthday.

In the week from 20 to 27 October, 36 defenders from the Vinnytsia oblast were reported killed.

Kirovohrad oblast

During the exchange of prisoners of war on 18 October, Andriy Kristofovych from the city of Novomyrhorod, Kirovohrad oblast, was returned from russian captivity. He is a senior lieutenant of the 36th Separate Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces if Ukraine. A court of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic sentenced the soldier to 25 years in prison. He had been in captivity for 2.5 years.

Cherkasy oblast

Igor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, said that at night, defenders destroyed 3 Shaheds. The wreckage of one of them fell on the territory of an infrastructure facility in Uman region.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Vladyslav Voloshyn, Spokesperson for the Defence Forces of Southern Ukraine, reported that the russian military achieved partial success near Levadne, as a result of mass assaults on Ukrainian positions.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, said that person was injured following russian shelling in Bilenke village.

Also, 2 men were injured when a russian drone attacked a harvester carrying civilians in Huliaipole community.

State Emergency Services of the oblast reported that on 26 October, sappers neutralised a cluster munition element from an Uragan MLRS and a grenade launcher round found in frontline areas of Zaporizhzhia and Polohy areas.

Mykolaiv oblast

According to the RMA, on 27 October, russian forces attacked Dmytrivka village in Kutsurub community 3 times by FPV drones. One of these drones struck a 43-year-old man on a moped. The man was killed on the spot. 

Vitalii Kim, Head of the RMA, reported that overnight, air defence forces shot down 4 Shahed-136/131 drones. 

Earlier, on 26 October at 4:18pm, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by an FPV drone. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

According to Operational Command South, overnight on 27 October, air defence forces shot down 8 drones in Odesa oblast. 

As reported by the RMA, in the evening of 26 October, russian forces targeted Odesa by a ballistic missile, likely an Iskander-M. The attack damaged an educational institution and 21 residential properties.

Kherson oblast

According to the RMA, at 2:20pm, russian forces shelled a post office in Kherson. 1 person was killed and 2 injured. Law enforcement has launched a preliminary investigation into war crimes. 

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that a russian drone attack killed a 61-year-old man in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. 

Based on the information provided by the Regional Prosecutor’s Office, on 27 October, around 11am, a russian drone struck an apartment building in Kherson and firefighters discovered a deceased man while extinguishing the flame.

According to the RMA, at noon, russian forces attacked Beryslav by a drone, injuring a 60-year-old woman who sought medical help independently. 

Roman Mrochko, Head of the CMA, informed that a russian attack injured 3 people in Komyshany. 

The russian artillery struck Bilozirka, injuring a 75-year-old woman who was working in her garden at the time. She suffered blast trauma and a shrapnel injury to her arm.

In the morning, russian forces dropped explosives from a drone on the outskirts of Kherson in Antonivka, injuring a 67-year-old woman who was hospitalised.

As reported by Roman Mrochko, Head of the CMA, another drone attack in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson resulted in a man’s death. 

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, said that overnight, air defence forces intercepted 2 russian Shahed-131/136 drones over Kherson oblast.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The Motorized Infantry Battalion of the Military Unit A7028 received 7 DJI Mavic 3 Pro (RC) quadcopters and 3 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters. The Military Unit A0281 received a DJI Mavic 3T and a DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters. The Military Unit A4932 received 3 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters and 2 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters. Help was provided by Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The dormitory of the Berehivsk Vocational Lyceum of the Service Sphere is being remodelled for the needs of IDPs. The building is 65% ready for new residents. In total, almost 200 people will be able to live here. The 1st floor will be equipped for people with special needs, as well as a children’s room and information spaces for the functioning of hubs.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Veteran business is developing in Ivano-Frankivsk. Mykhailo Adamovych, combatant, opened an electric car rental company in the city. In its service, you can not only rent a car, but also use ready-made tourist routes.

Lviv oblast

A memorial plaque was installed in Zhydachiv community in memory of Vasyl Vintoniv, soldier of the 3rd Mechanised Battalion of the Military Unit A7013. He was an assistant shooter of a grenade launcher of the 1st Platoon, 7th Company. Ye was killed on 5 May, 2024 near the village of Robotyne, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

The 1st voluntary fire brigade was opened in Sambir region thanks to the financial support of Dobromyl City Council and enterprises. The new unit will provide fire safety in 5 settlements.

Rivne oblast

A young singer from Rivne oblast raised funds for the military. 9-year-old Oleksandra Danyliuk performs concerts all over Ukraine. Despite her young age, the girl has already raised over UAH 3m. The laureate of all-Ukrainian and world music competitions currently performs only at charity concerts, she does not want to participate in those where there are no gatherings for the Ukrainian military. She went to sing for IDPs and the military in different parts of Ukraine.

Ternopil oblast

10 Ternopil soldiers will receive UAH 10,000 each for treatment and rehabilitation. Since the beginning of the year, 210 defenders have benefited from this assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Oleksandr Ruptash, defender from Khmelnytskyi, was awarded with the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously). A high state award was presented to the relatives of the deceased defender.

Chernivtsi oblast

In Bukovina, 60 war veterans and their family members will undergo social adaptation. They will rest and recover in the Brusnytsia Sanatorium and Health Complex. In addition, psychologists and social workers of Rokady will work with them. Specialists will develop individual integration plans and will examine the results of their implementation within 4-5 months. Such measures for the social and psychological adaptation of veterans and their families in Bukovina are provided for by the EU4Recovery project, which is implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine and with the financial assistance of the European Union.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Sweden announced a new aid package to Ukraine on the eve of winter. The humanitarian package worth over $10m will be distributed between 4 humanitarian organisations, the Ukrainian Red Cross and 3 UN organisations.
