What happened in Ukraine today:

russian invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders. The Ukrainian defense forces inflict significant losses in manpower and equipment.

On 24 April, there were 98 combat clashes.

Border settlements are suffering from cynical shelling from the territory of the russian federation, in particular Kucherivka, Zarutske, Stepok, Prokhody, Bila Bereza, Petrushivka, Khliborob, Boiaro-Lezhachi in Sumy oblast; Klynova-Novoselivka in Kharkiv oblast; Arkhipovka, Yeline, Khotiivka, Mkhy in Chernihiv oblast. Airstrikes were carried out in Uhroidy, Krasnopillia, Stepok, Riasne in Sumy oblast; and Kremskyi Buhor in Chernihiv oblast.

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy launched air strikes on Ridkodub settlement.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian troops three times in the vicinity of Nova Kruhliakivka, Zahryzove and towards Bohuslavka. Two clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Lyman, the invading army attacked four times towards Olhivka, Ridkodub and near Torske.

Towards Siversk, the Defense Forces successfully stopped an enemy attack near Verkhnokamianske, and one engagement is still ongoing in the Bilohorivka area.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy attacked Defense Forces positions 11 times in the areas of Chasiv Yar, Andriivka, and in the vicinity of Predtechyny. Four engagements are still ongoing.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked a total of eight times in the vicinity of Toretsk, Leonidivka, and near Diliivka; four engagements are still ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, the invaders have made 39 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Berezovka, Malinovka, Yelizavetivka, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novoserhiivka, Uspenivka, Novooleksandrivka, Nadiivka, Kotliarivka, Andriivka, as well as towards the settlements of Rozlyv, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, Chunyshyne, Oleksiivka, Stara Mykolaivka, and Romanivka. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught and repelling 23 attacks, 16 clashes are still ongoing. At the same time, the enemy launched air strikes on the settlements of Oleksandro-Kalynove, Mykolaivka, Yablunivka, Hrodivka and Pokrovsk. The losses of the invaders are being specified.

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy attacked six times near the settlements of Kostiantynopol and Pryvilne.

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy launched airstrikes on the vicinity of ​​the settlement of Huliaipole.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy attempted to advance seven times near the settlements of Novodanylivka, Maly Shcherbaki, Stepove, Shcherbaki and towards Mala Tokmachka. The settlement of Primorske was subjected to an airstrike.

Towards Kherson, the Defense Forces successfully stopped three enemy attempts to advance.

In Kursk oblast, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled 13 attacks by russian invaders. The enemy launched 203 attacks, including two from multiple launch rocket systems.

In other directions of the front, the situation did not change significantly.


According to the State Emergency Service in Kyiv, as a result of the massive russian missile attack on Kyiv, 12 people were killed. Another 90 people were injured to varying degrees of severity. Search and rescue operations and the elimination of the consequences of the attack are ongoing.

The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that on the night of April 24, russia launched 215 missiles of various types and drones over the territory of Ukraine. Air defense shot down 112 enemy air targets, another 68 enemy drones-simulators were lost in location without negative consequences.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Front

Towards Kharkiv, the enemy tried four times to break through the defensive lines of our defenders in the areas of the settlements of Vovchansk and Vovchanski Khutory.

Yesterday, one attack by the invaders took place towards Kupiansk. Ukrainian defenders stopped the enemy’s assault actions towards Zahryzove.

Shelling

Kharkiv was subjected to a combined attack by the enemy at night. 14 enemy UAVs and 11 missiles of various types entered the city in waves and from several directions. 6 people were injured, including one child. An 80-year-old man was taken to the hospital, who was injured by shrapnel. The injured were provided with highly qualified medical care. As a result of the strikes, multi-storey and private buildings, an educational institution and infrastructure facilities were damaged.

At 05:09, russians attacked the city of Kharkiv. The impact damaged the windows of three high-rise buildings. Two people were injured and suffered acute stress reactions.

At 02:16, russians hit a forest belt in Kharkiv, probably with a Kh-59 missile. The litter on an area of ​​10 m2 caught fire. The windows of two high-rise buildings were damaged and a fence was partially destroyed.

At 05:10, russians struck the village of Bezliudivka, Kharkiv oblast. The missile probably hit a swamp, causing reeds to burn. Windows were broken in a house and an outbuilding, a canopy was destroyed, and the fence and roof of a private house were damaged.

At 21:25, russians shelled the village of Kindrashivka, Kupiansk region. A private house was damaged. The type of weapon is being specified.

At 20:32, a russian Shahed UAV hit the ground in the village of Prohres, Izium region.

At 19:59, russians attacked the village of Klynova-Novoselivka, Bohodukhiv region, with five FPV drones. Three private residential buildings and three outbuildings were damaged.

At 16:40, russians shelled the village of Borova, Izium region, with guided aerial bombs. The roof of a one-story building of a former bread factory was burning on an area of ​​500 m².

At 16:40, grass on an area of ​​20 m² was also burning in the village of Borova as a result of the shelling of the GAB.

At 16:27, a post office building was damaged as a result of an FPV drone attack on the village of Prikolotne, Kupiansk region. Two women and a man were injured.

At 15:43, the Russians attacked the city of Chuhuiv with a Molniya UAV. A car was damaged, a 37-year-old man was injured.

At 14:00, in the village of Borova, Izium region, a Russian Molniya drone hit the road, damaging the windows in a warehouse.

At 14:24, an apartment was damaged as a result of an FPV drone attack in the city of Kupiansk.

At 14:25, russians shelled the village of Senkove, Kupiansk region, with MLRS. A private house was damaged.

At 11:13, a private house was damaged as a result of shelling with an unidentified type of weapon in the city of Kupiansk.

At 10:32, household items in the attic caught fire as a result of shelling by a Molniya UAV in the village of Prudianka, Kharkiv region. A private house was partially damaged.

Donetsk oblast

Shelling

The enemy shelled 18 settlements: the cities of Druzhkivka, Dobropillia, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Sloviansk, the village of Oleksievo-Druzhkivka, the villages of Diliivka, Dovha Balka, Zapovedne, Zelenyi Kut, Ivanopillia, Lyman, Ozerne, Rozkishne, Staryi Karavan, Chernihivka. 87 civilian objects were destroyed, including 62 residential buildings.

At night, at about 22:10, the enemy attacked the city with four missiles from the Smerch MLRS. A 12-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman, a neighbor, were killed. Police arrived to the rescue in the first minutes after the shelling. They provided assistance to two wounded – a 30-year-old man who received minor injuries, and a 47-year-old woman with serious injuries. Both were taken to the hospital, and an elderly woman was also unblocked from the destroyed house. As a result of the hits, more than 20 civilian objects were damaged, including 15 private houses.

The occupiers dropped two KAB-250 bombs on Sloviansk – one person was killed and one was injured, 17 private houses were damaged.

Kramatorsk was hit by 10 attacks, 6 of them drone attacks. A girl born in 2008 was injured, 2 administrative buildings were damaged.

In Dovha Balka, Illinivka community, an enemy drone hit a car, injuring a civilian.

One person was injured in the bombing of Myrnohrad, 2 private houses, a shop, and an enterprise were damaged.

russians directed three KAB-250 bombs at Chernihivka, Dobropillia community – a civilian was injured, 7 private houses and 2 cars were damaged.

In Pokrovsk, an apartment building was damaged, and in Dobropillia – an enterprise. In Zapovedne, Shakhivka community, a russian drone damaged a car.

The invaders attacked Druzhkivka with three GAB-250 bombs – damaging 2 private houses, an enterprise, a non-residential building, and 8 civilian cars.

Luhansk oblast

The occupiers launched more than 30 assaults towards Lyman and Siversk. In particular, in Luhansk oblast, they attacked near Hrekivka, Nadiia and Bilohorivka. The enemy directed 160 UAVs at the positions of the Defense Forces and surrounding villages. They used artillery 22 times. Five were multiple launch rocket systems.

In the so-called “lpr”, there are currently more than 12,400 vacancies. This is how many are recorded by the “republican employment center”. However, there are 40 times fewer people who want to find a job – less than 300 people. Among the reasons are low wages. In addition, the shortage of personnel is due to several waves of forced mobilization organized by russians in Luhansk oblast. Some men were taken from their jobs, others do not want to get official employment because of this.

In occupied Siverskodonetsk, there is a shortage not only of therapists, but also of narrow specialists. Neither the local doctors who remained to work in the russian federation, nor the tour doctors from Perm, are able to serve local residents and guests from Russia in a timely manner. In many cases, appointments can only be made for the following month. For example, in mid-April, the reception desk puts people in line for mid-May.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The RMA reported that in Kyiv oblast, two women were injured as a result of a combined attack in Bucha district, and were provided with the necessary assistance on the spot. Three five-storey residential buildings, 4 shops, 8 cars and a public transport stop were damaged in the community. In the Vyshgorod district, a warehouse and 3 cars were damaged, fires in the forest and in an open area were extinguished. A fire in a field in Brovary district was also extinguished.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko (information as of 17:00) reported that on the night of 24 April, russia struck the capital using strategic aviation, drones and ballistic missiles. The massive strike killed 10 people, including two children born in 2003 and 2005 from the same family. 90 people were injured, 44 of them were hospitalised, including children.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that a russian missile strike destroyed a two-storey residential building in Sviatoshyno district and damaged neighbouring houses. So far, 10 people have been confirmed dead. Rescue operations and rubble removal are underway. According to him, engineering forces, rescuers of the State Emergency Service, and search dogs are involved in the work. There may still be people under the rubble. Phone calls can be heard from under the rubble.

The head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Timur Tkachenko, informed that rescuers found a man alive in the ruins of a house in the Sviatoshynskyi district, which was hit by a russian missile on the night of 24 April. He had been under the rubble for eight hours

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine reported that in total, destruction was recorded in five districts in Kyiv. At least 25 residential buildings, a school and a kindergarten were damaged. Rescuers worked at 13 locations.

Consequences of the combined russian attack in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv: cars caught fire in the yard of a residential building, debris fell on the territory of non-residential buildings, a fire on the territory of a garage cooperative, where garages and a 2-storey administrative building were destroyed.

In Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire broke out in a non-residential building, destroying an administrative building and garages. Debris also fell in an open area.

In Solomianskyi district, the wreckage of a UAV fell in an open area. There was no damage.

In Obolonskyi district, a warehouse and the roof of a non-residential building were on fire, and cars were damaged. A grass floor also caught fire. The fires have been extinguished. There were no casualties.

For the fifth time, Lukyanivska station was damaged by russian shelling. The shock wave damaged the glass dome and facade, tore out part of the chipboard and cut the inscription with the station’s name.

The Kyiv City State Administration informed that on the night of 24 April, during the massive combined shelling of Kyiv, more than 16,000 people used underground metro stations as shelters. Among them were 1660 children. Currently, 46 underground metro stations are open around the clock as shelters. All lobbies are open during the air raid alert.

Zhytomyr oblast

Vitaliy Bunechko, the head of the RMA, reported that as a result of russian shelling in Zhytomyr oblast, private garages were damaged and a fire broke out. The blast wave smashed windows in several apartment buildings.

Rescuers extinguished the fire over a total area of 2,500 square metres. A total of 46 personnel and 7 vehicles were engaged in the firefighting operations. The firefighters are currently working to eliminate the consequences, provide the necessary assistance to the owners of the damaged homes, and set up a commission to promptly process applications for funds for reconstruction.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that in Zhytomyr oblast, the enemy struck again at a SES unit that arrived to extinguish a fire. A 39-year-old rescuer was injured. Four pieces of equipment were also damaged.

Ukrzaliznytsia reported that a railway conductor was injured as a result of hostile shelling of railway infrastructure in Zhytomyr. His condition is satisfactory.

Sumy oblast

The National Police reported that on 24 April, russian forces shelled Esman community. Two houses were reported damaged.

Liudmyla Kotkova, Svarkove village elder, informed that russian forces launched four missiles at Svarkove in Shalyhyne community. Preliminary reports indicate that seven houses were burned down as a result of the attack. Currently, the village has no internet due to the shelling.

According to the Regional Military Administration, In the morning, one of the settlements in Nedryhailiv community came under enemy UAV attack. Preliminary reports indicate that two civilians were injured as a result of the attack. Administrative and non-residential buildings were also damaged.

Sumy police reported that as a result of another attack by russian forces on Krasnopillia, an administrative building was damaged. The strike was carried out using two air-dropped bombs.

Iryna Yukhta, Acting Head of Krasnopillia community, informed that around 10am in the morning, the russian army carried out an airstrike on Riasne village in Krasnopillia community. Three men were injured and taken to a hospital in Sumy. The strikes also destroyed a shop and damaged the building of the local administrative office, a club, and nearby private houses.

During the night and morning, russian forces carried out 46 shellings of border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast. A total of 123 explosions were recorded. The shelling affected Yunakivka, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Nedryhailiv, Shalyhyne, Esman, and Svessa communities.

According to the Regional Military Administration, on 24 April, as a result of FPV-drones strikes on Velyka Pysarivka community, a private household was damaged. In Krasnopillia community, an administrative building was damaged due to the impact.

Over the past day, 23 April, russian forces carried out 139 shellings in Sumy oblast. A total of 334 strikes were recorded. The enemy used mortars (125 explosions), MLRS (64 explosions), artillery (32 explosions), tank shelling (12 explosions), a missile strike (1 explosion), FPV-drones attacks (48 explosions), air-dropped bombs (15 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (33 explosions). Fourteen communities came under enemy fire: Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Korovynka, Putyvl, Nova Slobidka, Shalyhyne, Esman, Khutir-Mykhailivskyi, Seredyna-Buda, and Znob-Novhorodske.

The Regional Military Administration reported as a result of a missile strike on Korovynka community by russian forces on 23 April, non-residential premises, an administrative building, a shop, private residential houses, and two-storey apartment buildings were damaged. Due to enemy shelling in Esman community, an educational institution was damaged, while in Myropillia community, private residential houses, utility structures, a non-residential building, and an educational institution were damaged.

The Ukrainian Red Cross conducted a first aid training session for police officers in Sumy oblast. During the training, law enforcement personnel familiarised themselves with the protocol for providing first aid in various life-threatening situations and practised their skills using mannequins and essential materials.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that on 23 April, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (19 explosions), launched FPV-drones (18 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (70 explosions). Fourteen villages came under enemy fire.

Chernihiv Police informed that in Nizhyn region, police bomb disposal experts neutralised the warhead of a russian strike UAV that had failed to detonate. The UAV was shot down by Ukraine’s Defence Forces near one of the settlements.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the RMA, stated that during the night, the enemy launched a massive attack on Pavlohrad. The russian forces targeted the city by missiles and drones, damaging an industrial facility. In the evening and into the morning, the occupiers continued to attack Nikopol region, mainly by kamikaze drones and artillery. They targeted the regional centre and Marhanets community. Updated reports confirmed that 8 more private houses, a store and a vehicle in Synelnykove region were damaged by KABs.

2 men, aged 42 and 60, were injured during russian shelling of Nikopol region. In total, during the day, the occupiers attacked the region more than 15 times, by drones and artillery. They targeted Nikopol, Pokrov and Marhanets communities, damaging private houses and infrastructure. The russian forces attacked Synelnykove region by drones and KABs, striking Slovianka, Mezhova and Novopavlivka communities, damaging a farming enterprise and infrastructure.

Poltava oblast

According to Poltava Regional Military Administration, last night, air defence systems in Poltava oblast intercepted a missile attack. In Myrhorod region, missile debris damaged a utility building and a vehicle.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy Regional Military Administration, reported that air defence forces shot down 5 russian drones over Cherkasy oblast.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Referring to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 24 April, Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 7 russian assaults in Orikhiv region. Prymorske village was hit by an airstrike.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, informed that russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia by Shahed drones, damaging an administrative building and breaking windows in a nearby residential building. 2 high-rise buildings were affected.

Based on the information provided by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 23 April, Ukrainian forces repelled 3 more russian attacks in Orikhiv region, specifically in the areas of Stepove, Shcherbaky and Lobkove.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 23 April, russian troops launched 456 attacks on 13 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. These included 307 drone strikes of various types targeting Zaporizhzhia, Malokaterynivka, Mahdalynivka, Novotavrychyske, Lobkove, Kamianske, Orikhiv, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, said that on 24 April, russian forces attacked Kutsurub community by FPV drones. A 72-year-old woman was wounded and hospitalised. She is receiving all necessary medical assistance.

On 23 April, Kutsurub community was attacked twice by FPV drones. One of the attacks caused a grass fire in an open area outside populated settlements. There were no injuries reported.

Odesa oblast

According to the Regional Military Administration, as of 6am, 11 enemy ships were spotted in the Black Sea, 4 of which are equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo of up to 16 missiles. No enemy ships were reported in the Sea of Azov.

Based on the information provided by the Ukrainian Air Force, overnight on 24 April, cruise missile launches from strategic aviation aircraft were recorded over Odesa oblast. 

Kherson oblast

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, reported that russian forces shelled Bilozirka in Kherson oblast, killing a 68-year-old woman who was in her yard.

According to the State Emergency Service, in the morning, russian troops dropped explosives from a drone onto a residential building in Kherson, setting the attic on fire. Firefighters promptly extinguished the blaze. Another fire was extinguished the previous evening in Bilozirka, where an outbuilding caught fire.

The Regional Military Administration reported that in Havrylivka, russian troops attacked a 61-year-old man by a drone. He suffered a blast injury, multiple chest wounds and a heart contusion. He is in critical condition.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, confirmed that an 81-year-old woman killed in Romashkove had died from injuries sustained during shelling on 17 April.

On 23 April, 10 people were wounded due to russian shelling towards Kherson oblast. 6 high-rise buildings, 8 private houses and a pipeline were damaged. The russian forces shelled 39 settlements.

According to the City Military Administration, a 59-year-old man from Antonivka sought medical attention after being wounded during a russian attack. He sustained a blast injury and shrapnel wound to his arm and will be treated on an outpatient basis.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The 1st Rifle Battalion of the Military Unit A7028 received an EcoFlow Delta 2 charging station and 10 batteries for Motorola radios from Lutsk community.

Zakarpattia oblast

The military received 9 vehicles, about 600 drones, electronic warfare systems, an electronic warfare backpack and an unmanned aerial vehicle complex, generators, food and hygiene products, chainsaws, charging stations and camouflage nets worth over UAH 16m.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

In Ivano-Frankivsk, 157 children of soldiers who were killed during the full-scale invasion were presented with commemorative pendants called Father’s Heart” The pendants bear the names and surnames of each child’s father.

Lviv oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Alessandro Zanelli, Nestlé CEO in Ukraine and South-Eastern Europe. They discussed potential areas for expanding production in Lviv oblast.

A memorial plaque in honor of defender Andrii Tkachenko, Commander of the Aviation Unit of the 114th Tactical Aviation Brigade, was unveiled in Sambir. He was killed on 8 March, 2024 while performing a combat mission in the skies of Donetsk oblast.

Rivne oblast

Candidates for the Order of St. Panteleimon were selected in Rivne oblast. These are the best military personnel and civilian doctors, volunteers, and innovators in the medical field.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Poland. They discussed Polish-Ukrainian cooperation on European integration, potential areas of bilateral economic and cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and strengthening interregional cooperation, in particular, on the exchange of experience in the field of reform and functioning of local self-government bodies.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that households that suffered as a result of terrorist attacks in the russian federation will receive financial assistance in the amount of about UAH 200,000.

Chernivtsi oblast

A memorial plaque in honor of Hero Mykola Banhen, soldier, assistant of the Rifleman of the Grenade Luncher of the Military Unit A4722, was unveiled in Chernivtsi. He was killed on 13 July, 2023 in the village of Lobkove, Zaporizhzhia oblast.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

UNITED24 reported that an anonymous donor has donated $1m for demining Ukraine.

Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine carried out 3 evacuation missions. For this purpose, 2 buses and specialized vehicles were used, transporting 28 patients and 9 accompanying persons for treatment abroad. These are mainly Ukrainians with mine and blast injuries, burns and limb amputations. They will receive treatment in clinics in Germany, Norway and the Netherlands.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, met with Cyril Ramaphosa, South African President. Volodymyr Zelensky presented a list of four hundred Ukrainian children who are currently being held against their will in russia.
