It has been the 791st day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

During the day of 24 April, there were 84x tactical engagements.

The enemy launched a total of 13x missiles and 51x air strikes, 16x MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have wounded civilians. Residential apartment blocks and private houses, as well as other infrastructure got destroyed and damaged.

Volyn and Polissia axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the russian areas bordering Ukraine. The enemy conducts subversion, continues shelling of Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the concentration of mining operations along the state border of Ukraine. More than 20x settlements, including Khotiivka, Leonivka (Chernihiv oblast), Popivka, Simeikyne, Pokrovka (Sumy oblast), Veterynarne, Kudiivka, Hatyshche, Pletenivka (Kharkiv oblast) came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Kupiansk and Lyman axes: the adversary conducted 1x attack on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Berestove (Kharkiv oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 10x settlements, including Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Pishchane (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 18x attacks in the vicinities of Nevske, Serebrianske forestry (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Torske (Donetsk oblast). The occupiers launched an airstrike in the area of Serebrianka forestry (Luhansk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Makiivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Yampolivka, Torske (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 13x attacks in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Vyimka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Chasiv Yar, Bila Hora, Andriivka (Donetsk oblast). More than 10x settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Kalynivka, Chasiv Yar, Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast).

Avdiivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 15x attacks in the vicinities of Novokalynove, Ocheretyne, Berdychi, Netailove (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, using air attacks, made attempts to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions. The adversary launched airstrikes in the vicinities of Kalynove, Vovche, Oleksandropil, Arkhanhelske (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Keramik, Arkhanhelske, Soloviove, Umanske (Donetsk oblast).

Novopavlivka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to block the enemy near Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Novomykhailivka, Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), where the invaders made 16x attempts to breach Ukrainian defence. The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Kostiantynivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Maksymilianivka, Paraskoviivka (Donetsk oblast).

Orikhiv axis: the enemy, with air support, launched 1x attack on positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinity of Staromaiors’ke (Donetsk oblast). The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 20x settlements, including Chervone, Bilohiria, Robotyne, Kamianske (Zaporizhzhia oblast), were under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.

Kherson axis: the enemy does not abandon its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. In particular during the day of 24 April, the invaders executed 1x unsuccessful assault on positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Krynky (Kherson oblast). The adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Beryslav, Olhivka, Krynky (Kherson oblast). The occupiers fired artillery and mortars at around 20 settlements, including Tiahynka, Ivanivka, Novotiahynka, Tokarivka (Kherson oblast).

During the day of 24 April, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 11x concentrations of enemy troops. Also, Ukrainian air defence forces shot down 1x Kh-59 guided air-launched missile and 3x reconnaissance UAVs of the invaders.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal reported that the government has allocated UAH 8bn for the construction of fortifications. Since the beginning of 2024, almost UAH 38bn has been allocated to strengthen the defence borders.

The Verkhovna Rada has increased the number of the State Border Guard Service by 15,000 servicemen. The total number of SBGS personnel will be up to 75,000 (including 67,000 military personnel) before martial law is cancelled in Ukraine. The government introduced this draft law on 18 April 2024.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administraton, reported that at 12:57am, russians shelled Shevchenkivskyi district. An S-300 hit the ground, damaging the glazing and exterior of 3 apartment buildings, 2 office buildings, 3 non-residential buildings and a gas pipeline. A total of 568 windows and 33 cars were damaged. Three men aged 33, 45, 53 and three women aged 24, 45, 54 were injured.

Taras Stomin, a representative of the Danish Refugee Council, said about 15 of the damaged cars belonged to the organisation. These vehicles were used to deliver hygiene products and building materials to residents of the city and oblast. This is a significant damage to the organisation.

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv Village Military Administration, said that at 1:05am, russians shelled Zolochiv settlement of Bohodukhiv region. As a result of 2 rockets hitting the former Zolochiv administration building, 10 buildings, including 2 residential apartment buildings and a banking institution were partially destroyed. The building of the former regional state administration in Zolochiv is planned to be preserved.

Yesterday about 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered artillery and mortar attacks: Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Stepova Novoselivka and others. Kharkiv, Kozacha Lopan and Zolochiv were hit by airstrikes.

At 2:10pm, russians shelled Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv. As a result of the shelling, 19 private houses were damaged, windows broken, fences and roofs partially damaged, 3 garages and 3 cars damaged.

At 2:10pm, russians shelled Shevchenkivskyi district, damaging 2 cars.

At 6:30pm, the invaders attacked Senkove village of Kupiansk region. The enemy shelled the settlement by MRLs. A power line and a private household were damaged.

At 2:10pm, russians targeted Kozacha Lopan village of Kharkiv region. The building of the village council and a garage were damaged.

At 1:20pm, russians shelled Vilcha village of Chuhuiv region by KAB bombs. Private houses and an electricity pole were damaged.

At 12:10pm, a 24-year-old man was driving a car across the field and tripped over an unknown explosive device in Yurchenkove village of Pechenihy community. He was hospitalised.

Yesterday the enemy attacked our positions 5 times near Berestove towards Kupiansk.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 32.2 hectares of territory and destroyed 437 explosive ordnance.

The forced evacuation of families with children has been completed in Ivashky village of Zolochiv community. 9 families with 15 minors will be accommodated in Kharkiv oblast by prior arrangement. The evacuees will also receive financial support.
Volodymyr Tymoshko, Head of Kharkiv police, confirmed that up to 13 attacks with guided aerial bombs are recorded daily in Kharkiv oblast. According to him, on 23 April, russians attacked Kharkiv oblast by 11 aerial bombs. Tymoshko said that in addition to Saltivskyi district, the strike was recorded in a forest belt near downtown.

Volodymyr Tymoshko added that since the beginning of the invasion, 10 police officers have been killed and more than 180 injured in Kharkiv oblast. Several police officers have been injured two or three times. The injuries happen with a frequency of a week or two.

The mother and brother of 28-year-old surgeon and medical service lieutenant Vladyslav Tytarenko, who was killed by a russian guided missile strike on a blood transfusion centre in Kruhliakivka, Kharkiv region, on 5 August, received the Order of the Golden Star from the President of Ukraine.

Donetsk oblast

Nazar Voloshyn, Spokesman of the Khortytsia operational-stragetic group, reported that fighting continues in Ocheretyne, near Avdiivka. About two hundred residents, who refused to leave, remain there.

The 95th Air Assault Brigade informed that towards Lyman, the russian military has been storming Terny for several weeks. They are using old Soviet equipment.

At night, russian troops attacked Pokrovsk by four rockets and the type of weapon is being established. A social infrastructure facility was damaged. There was no information about casualties.

On 23 April, 8 settlements were under attack: Kostiantynivka, Krasnohorivka, Kurakhove, Selydove cities, Hostre, Niu-York settlements, Andriivka and Ostrivske villages. Police recorded 1865 hostile attacks. Seven people were injured in Donetsk oblast as a result of russian attacks. 27 civilian objects were damaged, including 21 residential buildings, garages, cars and power lines.

Also russia dropped three UMPB D-30 SM guided aerial bombs on Selydove. 14 private houses, a garage, a car and a power line were destroyed.

The invaders attacked Kostiantynivka by an UMPB D-30 SM bomb, injuring 5 civilians, damaging 4 private houses, two cars and power lines.

As a result of artillery shelling, a man was injured and a private house damaged in Krasnohorivka.

The State Emergency Service in Donetsk oblast confirmed that on 23 April, pyrotechnics destroyed a 250kg bomb that fell in the residential sector of Kostiantynivka. The bomb was transported from the impact site outside the settlement.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, yesterday russians stormed Ukrainian positions in Bilohorivka, near Hrekivka and Nevske. Bilohorivka and Serebrianka forest were attacked by russian aircraft. The enemy shelled Stelmakhivka, Kuzemivka, Hrekivka and Makiivka by artillery. The invaders used 19 drones near Nevske.

People, who remain near the frontline, are receiving assistance in restoring their homes. The day before, damaged windows in four households in Nevske were repaired. They also delivered food and hygiene products to the locals.

The russian Military History Society is planning to organise a History for the Future forum in the so-called “lpr”, which will involve federal technologists. The event should reach as many young people, teachers and journalists as possible, so to say future propagandists.

Schools in the occupied territories lack russian language teachers. The invaders are hastily organising training courses to involve teachers of the Ukrainian language or invite retired teachers to work in schools. There are many cases of russian language lessons turning into independent classes.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the AFU General Headquarters, the joint search group of the AFU humanitarian project “On the Shield” is additionally checking Kyiv oblast areas where the fighting took place. It is noted that these battlefields still have “white spots”. Experienced searchers and cynologists worked on the areas that required additional inspection.

Bohdan Balahura, Head of Tetiiv community, said that lyceum students from Tetiiv, Kyiv oblast, collected 65kg of plastic lids. They will be used to make drones. 

The Ministry of Health reports that the outpatient clinic in the village of Bohdanivka, which was damaged in the spring of 2022 during active hostilities in Kyiv oblast, will be repaired. The total cost of the work is more than UAH 19m. UAH 16m was raised on the UNITED24 platform, and the rest will be provided by co-funding from the local community.

Zhytomyr oblast

In the first three months of 2024, Zhytomyr oblast signed contracts for the unmanned aerial vehicles purchase for the Ukrainian Defense Forces worth more than UAH 68.3m.

The Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs, with the support of Poland, plans to open psychosocial support centres in Zhytomyr oblast.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that on the night and in the morning of 24 April, the russian army attacked Sumy oblast border areas and settlements with 49 explosions recorded. Khotin, Velyka Pysarivka and Esman communities were shelled. The russian army fired on Esman community from mortars with 4 explosions recorded. Velyka Pysarivka community was attacked with 24 explosions recorded from artillery shelling and 17 explosions from mortars. The russian military also dropped 4 mines on the territory of Khotin community.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of the Sumy RMA, informed about the increase in the use of multiple rocket launchers and drones in Sumy oblast by the russian army, as well as about the continuation of mortar and artillery shelling. Today, Bilopillia community suffers the most from shelling with air attacks and subversive groups being the biggest threats.

Sumy RMA announces that another local fire brigade has started its work in Sumy oblast. The creation of a voluntary fire brigade was made possible through the cooperation of the SES, the community and international partners.

Representatives of the Red Cross of Ukraine in Sumy organised workshops on first aid for victims. The event was dedicated to the 106th anniversary of the organisation’s founding.

Chernihiv oblast

Halyna Shekhovtsova, Spokeswoman for the Chernihiv border guard detachment, reported that russians attacked three border communities in Chernihiv region: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Snovsk with 60 explosions recorded  by the border guards .

Novhorod-Siverskyi community suffered from 19 explosions (possibly from a 120-mm mortar and unguided aerial missiles) in Hremiach direction; two explosions (possibly from a 120-mm mortar) were recorded in the direction of Krasny Khutir; two explosions (unknown explosive devices dropped from an unmanned aerial vehicle) were recorded in Buchky village direction; 20 explosions (possibly from MLRS) were recorded in Vorobiivka direction. Semenivka community faced nine explosions (possibly from a 120-mm mortar) in the direction of the village of Lubiane. Snovsk community was attacked through eight explosions (allegedly from an 82-mm mortar) in the area of Kliusy.

Pyrotechnics of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Chernihiv oblast seized 17 explosive items.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

During the evening and night, the occupiers shelled Nikopol region 5 times, launching  2 kamikaze drones and about two dozen artillery shells. They shelled Nikopol itself, Myrove and Marhanets communities.. An agricultural company and an agricultural enterprise were damaged, as well as two power lines. 2,100 families were left without electricity. Power engineers are already working on restoring electricity. According to the updated information, two women aged 51 and 61 were injured in the evening attacks in Nikopol region. They were provided with all the necessary medical care. Two more private houses, a car and an outbuilding were also damaged.

The occupiers carried out a dozen attacks in Nikopol region in one day. They launched 6 kamikaze drones and fired from artillery. They hit the region’s centre, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities. A private house, an outbuilding and a truck were damaged. There were no casualties.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov announced that Vinnytsia oblast has handed over 20 off-road vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. 

A charity literary evening in support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was held in Vinnytsia. 14 talented residents of Vinnytsia City of all ages presented their poetry on patriotic themes. The funds raised UAH 20,000 which was used to purchase equipment for the brigade where the residents of Vinnytsia serve.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of Kirovohrad RMA, announced that a strategic session was held to discuss the draft Kropyvnytskyi Community Development Strategy until 2030. It includes support for the frontline, strengthening defence capabilities, enhancing economic and financial stability, countering russian energy terrorism, and implementing social programmes, while staying committed to providing support for the national producer.  

Poltava oblast

A tender for the purchase of 47 UAVs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been completed in Poltava. The winner is a Kyiv-based company that will sell them at a price of UAH 197,000 per drone. They will be delivered to Poltava in May. Then they will be handed over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Cherkasy oblast

Oleksii Drahun, Patrol Police Spokesman, reported that ammunition was found in a trash bin on Peremohy Avenue in Cherkasy. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday the occupiers attacked 11 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast a total of 428 times. 147 UAVs targeted Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka. 6 MLRS shelling covered Huliaipole, Levadne, and Robotyne. There were 275 artillery strikes on the territory of Novoiakovlivka, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Verbovе, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Levadne, Malynivka, Mali Shcherbaky and Piatyhatky. 8 reports of housing destruction were received. Civilians were not affected.

It is reported that the occupiers carried out 5 assaults towards Orikhiv. 2 assaults were in the area of Staroaiorskе and 3 in the area of Robotyne. They did not succeed.

The VI Festival of Films of National-Cultural Societies took place in Zaporizhzhia. Nine films presented at the festival told about the life and activities of various national communities during the full-scale russian invasion. The film festival demonstrated the power of unity and mutual assistance of different national communities, their contribution to the common struggle against russian aggression.

Mykolaiv oblast

Yesterday, 23 April, the enemy attacked the coastal area of Mykolaiv oblast by FPV and Lancet kamikaze drones. As a result of the attack, automotive equipment of an industrial enterprise, civilian vehicles and a boat were damaged. One of the strikes damaged a private house in the village of Dmytrivka of Kutsurub community. Additionally, the enemy attacked the water area in Ochakiv community by artillery.

The enemy shelled the city of Ochakiv and Kutsurub community by artillery. One civilian was injured and private residential buildings damaged as a result of enemy shelling.

Reports indicate that russians once again transported animals from the Askania-Nova biosphere reserve in the occupied part of Kherson oblast. This time, zebras were taken to Crimea to the Taigan safari park. russian media reported that the animals have already been released into the enclosure.

Mykolaiv energy workers received 6 aerial platforms for repair work, totaling over €770,000. The specialised equipment was purchased with funds from the Energy Support Fund of Ukraine, initiated by Minister of Energy of Ukraine Herman Halushchenko and EU Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson. Thanks to the technical specifications, repair brigades will be able to safely work on overhead lines with a voltage class of up to 35kV.

The Mykolaivvodokanal utility enterprise announced a project aimed at restoring the water supply system of Mykolaiv, which was damaged due to hostilities. Program plans include restoring the distribution network in the city, which suffered from the use of saline water, building a microfiltration complex destroyed by russian occupiers, and completely reconstructing the first lift pumping station. This will ensure the reliability of the system for future operation and reduce electricity consumption for this system. The program will be funded through a loan from the EBRD and grants from the Eastern European Cooperation Fund and the Government of Denmark.

Compensation for damaged property under the yeVidnovlennia program has already been paid to 3,474 residents of Mykolaiv oblast. 6,471 applications for compensation for damaged property have been received since the start of the program. The compensation commission has already approved compensation totaling over UAH 379.512m for 3,717 applicants.

Odesa oblast

Today, the russian federation struck a storage facility for decommissioned automotive equipment in the city of Odesa. According to the “South” Operational Command, this attack could have cost the enemy nearly $10m.

According to Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa RMA, one injured person, a 43-year-old woman, is known at the moment. She has been hospitalised in critical condition. Approximately 30 buildings were damaged by the shockwave: windows and glass were shattered, and in some homes, ceilings collapsed.

Odesa Railway Administration reported that long-distance trains and commuter trains are delayed due to the rocket strike on Odesa in the morning of 24 April. 

Odesa City Council has adopted a new Unbreakable Odesa targeted program for the years 2024-2026. The program aims to restore residential buildings, especially those damaged as a result of russian attacks. For this purpose, UAH 307.8m will be allocated from the city budget.

Kherson oblast

During the night, russian forces heavily shelled Stanislav. Nearly forty residential buildings were damaged, and one person was injured as a result of enemy strikes.

Yesterday the enemy attacked 22 settlements in the oblast, including Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Poniativka, Stanislav, Kizomys, Yantarne, Bilozerka, Beryslav, Osokorivka, Havrylivka, Lvove, Krupitsia, Kozatske, Novokayiry, Kachkarivka, Novoberyslav, Mykhailivka, Novooleksandrivka, Novovorontsovka, Tiahinka and Mylove. The attacks resulted in damage to 26 objects, including a high-rise building, 14 private houses, an administrative building, a gas pipeline, a garage, a gas station and five cars, including a police vehicle.

The enemy conducted three unsuccessful assaults near the village of Krynky on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. After suffering losses, they retreated to their original positions. The confirmed losses of the enemy over the past day amounted to 111 occupiers and 53 pieces of equipment and military vehicles. Three ammunition storage sites, one dugout, a field depot of material and technical resources, and a field refuelling point were destroyed.

A resident of Mykhailivka, who was injured in a russian shelling a few days ago, sought medical attention at the hospital. She was diagnosed with blast trauma and leg injuries.

Employees of Proliska Kherson provided materials for quick repairs to 22 residents, as well as non-food essentials. Assistance was provided to residents of the Korabelnyi and Central districts of the city, whose homes were recently damaged due to russian attacks.

Five agricultural enterprises in Dariivka community received over 200 bags of sunflower seeds. This seeding material will be enough to sow 400 hectares of land.

Volyn oblast

The RMA held a meeting with business representatives of Volyn. On the agenda is mobilisation and, at the same time, ensuring the sustainable life of the oblast.

Lutsk City Council sent 30 8-inch FPV drones, 5 Mavic 3T and 5 Mavic 3 Fly More Combos to the military.

Zakarpattia oblast

This week, the Owl’s Nest Humanitarian Aid Center provided IDPs registered in Uzhgorod with 35 packages with necessary things for children under 1 year old, 50 bags with grocery sets and 55 packages with hygiene kits. During the week, volunteers gave out clothes, shoes, bed linen and dishes (2.500 items) from the PDUM Partnerschaft Deutschland-Ukraine/Moldova e. V., Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen / Wings of Help e.V. and other benefactors.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

2 Safety Classrooms were opened at once in Uhryniv community. One of them is now operating on the basis of Uhryniv Gymnasium, another one at Uhryniv Lyceum. Each of the newly created Safety Classrooms has a zone of fire safety, mine safety and road traffic, where children will learn rules that save lives. These premises are equipped not only with visual materials and educational thematic games, informational posters, manuals for educators, but also with real combat clothing and equipment of rescuers.

Lviv oblast

Lviv City Hall bought 50 Mavic 3T drones worth UAH 9.5m thanks to community funds as part of the Lion’s Revenge initiative. In January – March 2024, Lviv supported the army for almost UAH 195m. In the budget of Lviv community for 2024, UAH 1bn is provided only for the purchase of equipment and necessary means for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Lviv RMA and the Strong Life NGO are sent a powerful generator that will allow them to “recharge” the equipment for rescuing soldiers at the front line. Petro Buriak, veteran of the russian-Ukrainian war, will deliver it to the 28th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign.

16 children of defenders from Lviv oblast went to the Artek children’s camp in Zakarpattia oblast for recovery, where the 1st shift started. These are orphans, children deprived of parental care, as well as children of fallen defenders.

In memory of fallen defenders of Ukraine, memorial plaques were opened in Strii region. Memorial signs to Bohdan Mazur and Vasyl Abramiv were installed on the facade of the school in the village of Berezhnytsia, Zhydachiv community, where Heroes studied.

In accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine, the III degree For Courage honorary award was awarded to Mykhailo Shyyka. The defender was killed on 22 July, 2023 as a result of injuries received near the village of Vilkhuvatka, Kharkiv oblast. The award was presented to the family of the fallen soldier.

Rivne oblast

Kharkiv oblast received 1,153 sources of alternative power, namely, 316 generators, 24 charging stations and 813 power banks, from Rivne oblast.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, presented the Golden Star Order to families of Junior Sergeant Nazar Nebozhynskyi and Senior Lieutenant Fares Nedal Al Shami, fallen Heroes from Rivne oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast
