It has been the 1338  th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 23 October, there were 69 combat engagements.

The enemy shelled the settlements of Starykove and Bobylivka in Sumy region with artillery from russian territory.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy launched five airstrikes, dropping six guided bombs, and carried out 104 shelling attacks, including two from multiple launch rocket systems.

Towards Southern Sloboda, there were five combat clashes. The enemy attacked the settlements of Vovchansk, Kamianka and Boholivka. Three more battles are still ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy made three attempts to advance on Ukrainian positions near Pishchane, Stepova Novoselivka and Petropavlivka. The Defence Forces successfully repelled one attack. Two more battles are still ongoing.

Towards Lyman, Ukrainian defenders repelled four assaults near Nadiia, Novoselivka, Zarichne and Shandryholove. One battle is still ongoing. 

Towards Sloviansk, Ukrainian troops repelled two enemy attacks, and eight more battles are still ongoing. The occupiers’ units attempted to advance near Yampil, Serebrianka, Siversk and Vyimka.

Towards Kramatorsk, there were no offensive actions.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the enemy made eight attempts to advance on Ukrainian positions near Shcherbynivka, Rusyn Yar, Katerynivka and Sofiivka. The Defence Forces successfully repelled all the enemy attempts.

Towards Pokrovsk, the enemy made 16 attempts to advance on Ukrainian positions near Nykanorivka, Myrnohrad, Rodynske, Lysivka, Zvirove, Udachne, Molodetske and other settlements. Two more battles are still ongoing.

Towards Oleksandrivka, the aggressor attacked Filiia, Sosnivka, Novoiehorivka, Orestopil and Pavlivka ten times. One battle is still ongoing. 

Towards Huliaipole, the enemy launched airstrikes on the settlements of Danylivka, Novouspenske, Solodke and Huliaipole.

Towards Orikhiv, The Defence Forces repelled one enemy attack near Stepove, In addition, the enemy launched airstrikes on Richne.

Towards Kherson, The Defence Forces repelled three enemy attacks near the Antonivka Road Bridge.

No significant changes have been reported in other areas at this time.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

Towards Southern Sloboda, there were five combat clashes near ​​Vovchansk, Kamianka and Bolohivka. Three combat clashes are still ongoing.

There were 126 combat clashes in the oblast.

Towards Southern Sloboda, the Defense Forces repelled 8 enemy attacks in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Bolohivka, Stroivka, Kamianka and Kolodiazne.

Towards Kupiansk, there were 4 attacks. The Defense Forces repelled enemy assault actions near Pishchane, Petropavlivka and Kupiansk.

Shelling

The RMA reports that four people were injured in russian shelling of Kostiantynivka. russian troops targeted civilians with an FPV drone on fiber optics.

Lozova Mayor Serhii Zelenskyi reports that at around 05:30, russian troops struck Lozova with Shaheds, hitting critical infrastructure. As of 09:30, only some consumers have electricity. According to him, no people were injured, the windows and roofs of a house near the site of the hit were damaged.

The RMA says that Barvinkove was attacked by russian strike drones, a woman was slightly injured. Previously, the russian federation struck with Geran-2 drones. The hits fell on the territory of one of the enterprises in Barvinkove, which is currently out of operation. The shock wave also damaged the glazing of surrounding buildings, as a result of which one woman was slightly injured.

Yevhen Vasylenko, Spokesman for the State Emergency Service of the region, reports that russian troops hit rescuers with a drone in Zelenyi Hai: Yurii Chistikov, commander of the 43rd State Fire and Rescue Unit of the 4th State Fire and Rescue Detachment of the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Kharkiv oblast, was killed. Five more of his colleagues were wounded. Two rescuers who came under russian attack on the night of October 23 in Zelenyi Hai of Velykyi Burlut community will be treated as outpatients, three in the hospital. He says that one of the State Emergency Service fighters is in serious condition, two are in moderate condition. The occupiers again attacked the place where the State Emergency Service fighters were working after being hit.

Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 6 settlements of the oblast were subjected to enemy strikes.

As a result of the shelling, one person was killed and 9 were injured.

In Kharkiv, a 40-year-old man died, men aged 29, 41, 45 and women aged 27, 34, 43, 51, 57, 58 were injured.

A 66-year-old man was injured as a result of an explosion of an unknown device in a field in Vilkhiv community.

Anna Hontar, Spokeswoman for the Regional Military Administration, says that three of the nine people injured in the strike on Kharkiv on October 22 remain in the hospital. Two of them are in moderate condition, one woman is in serious condition, she was transferred from intensive care to the burn unit, the woman has 25% burns on her body. Rescuers and utility workers continue to clear the rubble at the site of the russian strike, using special equipment for high-altitude work.

Police reports that on the evening of October 22, a russian FPV drone hit a tractor in Slobozhanske, Lipetsk community. The 68-year-old man who was driving died on the spot from his injuries.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons:

▪️2 GABs;

▪️7 UAVs of the Geran-2 type;

▪️3 UAVs of the Molniya type;

▪️1 UAV of the Lancet type.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️in Kharkiv, a kindergarten building, 11 cars, an apartment building, 3 buildings, and road equipment were damaged;

▪️in Izium region, an apartment building and a private house were damaged (Barvinkove city);

▪️in Kupiansk region, 2 administrative buildings, a car (Velykyi Burluk village), a combine harvester (Zelenyi Hai village) were damaged;

▪️in Kharkiv region, power grids were damaged (Vasylivske village);

▪️in Chuguyiv region, a private house was damaged (Bilyi Kolodiaz village).

Architect-restorer Viktor Dvornikov informs that as a result of the russian attack on Kharkiv on the morning of October 22, 10 cultural heritage sites were damaged. According to him, among them are four architectural monuments.

Other

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 153 people. 46 people remained. A total of 8,832 people have been registered at the Point since it began operating.

Almost 261 hectares of the oblast were demined in a week. 2,437 explosive devices were disposed of.

Donetsk oblast

The RMA reports that three strikes by FPV drones on fiber optics were carried out by the occupation forces in Kramatorsk from 12:45 to 15:01. Private houses in the suburbs were attacked. There were no injuries or deaths, houses and three cars were damaged.

According to the RMA, four people injured in russian shelling of Kostiantynivka. russian troops targeted civilians with an FPV drone on a fiber optic cable.

In Kramatorsk, russians hit a film crew: two journalists killed, one injured at around 9:37 a.m., when an enemy Lancet UAV hit a car on the territory of a gas station. Three employees of the FREEDOM TV channel were injured in the attack, who were recording the consequences of the previous shelling of the city at that moment. A 33-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were fatally injured. Another man, 47, was hospitalized with shrapnel wounds and fractures. According to the president, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the russian federation, the russian army has killed 135 media representatives.

On October 22, there were 2,024 enemy attacks on the front line and residential sector.

8 settlements were under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, the villages of Komyshuvakha, Malotaranivka, Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka, and Raihorodok.

17 civilian objects were destroyed, including 5 residential buildings.

In just one day on October 22, russian troops hit Pokrovsk with more than 150 GABs, and in total, since the beginning of October, they have dropped 860 guided bombs on Pokrovsk.

russians used five drones of various types in Kramatorsk; they injured a civilian, damaged a gas station and a civilian car, a market, a critical infrastructure facility, and a shopping pavilion.

One person was injured in Kostiantynivka by an FPV drone strike.

The enemy attacked Druzhkivka with five Geran-2 UAVs. An administrative building, an enterprise, a non-residential premises, and a garage were damaged.

As a result of the hits by Molniya-2 UAVs, an apartment building was damaged in Mykolaivka, and 4 private houses and an educational institution in Raihorodok.

In Komyshuvakha, Kramatorsk community, an apartment building was damaged due to a drone attack, and in Malotaranivka, a non-residential premises were damaged.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that nine people were injured as a result of the russian drone attack on Kyiv on 23 October. Two of the victims, an 18-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, are in serious condition. The consequences were reported in three districts of the capital.

In the Podil district, rescuers extinguished a fire in a five-story apartment building and cars in the courtyard. Residents were evacuated. The blast wave damaged windows in several buildings at different addresses. The facade and windows of a kindergarten were damaged, as well as one of the district’s business centres. Warehouses at several addresses were on fire. Debris also fell near a synagogue.

In the Obolonskyi district, the blast wave damaged windows in one of the residential buildings.

In the Desnianskyi district, a russian UAV hit the 21st floor of a residential high-rise building without detonating. Another hit was recorded in an unfinished building.

The State Emergency Service reported that all fires had been extinguished. More than 100 rescuers and 28 pieces of equipment were involved in dealing with the aftermath of the enemy attack.

According to updated information, about 20 locations across six districts of Kyiv were damaged as a result of the russian attack on October 22. The russian forces killed a married couple and injured 30 residents of the capital.

Five children were injured in the russian attack on Kyiv on October 22. Four of them were hospitalized in the city’s children’s hospital. According to the medical facility, their condition is currently stable. All the children suffered shrapnel wounds to the head and face caused by broken window fragments. The ages of the victims range from 2 to 17 years.

In Kyiv oblast, the aftermath of the russian strikes on October 22 has been recorded in three districts: Brovary, Obukhiv, and Boryspil. Sixteen private houses were damaged, two of them completely burned down. Windows were shattered in one apartment building and one cottage. Additionally, five cars, two shops, two gas stations, a private enterprise, and a railway station were damaged.

In Kyiv, police officers found two unexploded Shahed drones that had crashed into residential buildings in the Desnianskyi and Obolonskyi districts following the enemy’s evening attack on the capital on October 22. Law enforcement officers rendered the explosive parts of the drones safe, then loaded them into special mobile blast-proof containers and transported to a testing range for controlled destruction.

According to DTEK, in Kyiv and Kyiv oblast, stabilization power outage schedules came into effect on October 22.

On October 23, 2025, Kyiv hosted the Ukrainian Women’s Congress 2025. This year’s event was held under the motto “The Courage to Be Yourself” and was dedicated to the stories of women whose bravery is transforming Ukraine every day. The presentation of the Mary O’Hagan Ukrainian Women’s Congress Award to Tetiana “Khreshchena” Tepliuk, a medic from the Azov regiment who spent nine months in russian captivity became the highlight of the event. Her story is one of resilience, love for Ukraine, and true woman’s courage.

Zhytomyr oblast

The Zhytomyr City Council reported that 704 “Points of Invincibility” have been set up across Zhytomyr oblast, 18 of them in Zhytomyr. In the case of an officially declared blackout, these centers in Zhytomyr will open within one hour on weekdays and within two hours on weekends. Additional departmental “Points of Invincibility” will also be deployed throughout the city: the State Emergency Service (SES) plans to set up six, including two mobile ones, and the National Police will open four.

The Regional Military Administration announced that a new radiation shelter has been built for a gymnasium in Zviahel. It is designed to accommodate 250 people and is fully equipped with everything necessary — an efficient ventilation and heating system, modern lighting, a security alarm, and a fire protection system.

Sumy oblast

The General Staff reported that towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, four combat engagements took place over the past day. In addition, the russian army carried out four airstrikes, dropped 12 guided aerial bombs, and conducted 176 attacks on Ukrainian positions and settlements, including 10 using multiple launch rocket systems.

Serhii Kryvoshyenko, Head of Sumy City Military Administration, said that as a result of strikes on civilian infrastructure in Sumy, several non-residential buildings were damaged.

The Regional Military Administration informed that at around 3am on 23 October, russian forces launched a drone strike on a railway station in Sumy. Two railway employees were injured: a 35-year-old man was hospitalised, while a 28-year-old man received treatment on site. The strike damaged rolling stock and railway infrastructure, and power was lost in parts of the regional contact network.

According to the Regional Military Administration in Sumy community, a 32-year-old woman was injured in a drone attack.

Sumy City Military Administration reported that  during the night, the russian army carried out two drone strikes on a truck and a car in Stetskivka administrative area. The civilian vehicles were damaged, but no casualties were recorded.

Between the morning of 22 October and the morning of 23 October, russian forces launched 130 attacks on 42 settlements across 16 territorial communities in Sumy oblast. The highest number of strikes occurred in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (up to 10 strikes), drones (nearly 30 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (up to 10 strikes), and dropped explosive grenades from UAVs (around 20 strikes). FPV drone attacks were also recorded. Over the past 24 hours, air-raid alerts in the oblast lasted for 18 hours and 22 minutes.

As of the morning of 23 October, the consequences of russian strikes in Sumy oblast include:

  • In Popivka community – damage to a civilian infrastructure facility;
  • In Krasnopillia community – damage to a civilian infrastructure facility;
  • In Mykolaivka rural community – damage to residential premises, a private house, and a truck;
  • In Seredyna-Buda community – damage to a car;
  • In Hlukhiv community – damage to a private house;
  • In Bilopillia community – damage to a civilian infrastructure facility;
  • In Konotop community – damage to civilian infrastructure facilities;
  • In Sumy community – damage to civilian infrastructure facilities and a truck.

During the day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and public organisations from border communities, evacuated 13 people.

Sumy Regional Military Administration announced that Ukrainian defenders have received an additional 100 drones and a control station. The equipment was purchased with funds from the regional budget.

Chernihiv oblast

“North” Operational Command reported that between 8am on 22 October and the morning of 23 October, russian forces attacked Chernihiv region by strike drones. A local resident was injured after one of the drones crashed. In one of the district’s communities, russian forces struck an outbuilding, which was destroyed by fire. In another community, four houses were damaged by a drone explosion.

According to “North” Operational Command, on 22 October, in Novhorod-Siverskyi region, a russian strike drone hit an energy facility. As a result, parts of several villages in the region were left without electricity.

The Regional Military Administration informed that in Koriukivka region, russian drones targeted an infrastructure facility in a border community. A fire broke out at the site of impact and was extinguished by firefighters.

Scheduled power outages continue in Chernihiv oblast, while some districts remain under emergency disconnection schedules. Energy workers are carrying out restoration work.

Chernihiv Border Detachment stated that throughout 22 October, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar attacks (20 explosions), MLRS strikes (31 explosions), and artillery shelling (4 explosions); launched Shahed drones (5 explosions) and FPV drones (18 explosions); and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (5 explosions). In Snovsk town, the enemy carried out five Shahed drone strikes on the fuel and energy system.

According to Chernihiv City Territorial Community Recovery and Development Plan, as of 1 January 2025, Chernihiv had a registered population of 274,300 — nearly 8,500 fewer than in 2022. Demographic statistics indicate a continuing trend of population decline.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the Regional Councilб reported that defenders shot down 28 enemy drones.

Last night and early this morning, the enemy continued attacks on the regional centre and Pokrovske community, using drones and artillery. In Nikopol, two private houses, an outbuilding, and a gas pipeline were damaged. In Pavlohrad region, russian forces struck by drones, damaging infrastructure. Drone attacks also caused fires in Pokrovske community, where a farm and a private house were damaged.

In Nikopol region, more than 25 strikes were recorded. The occupiers attacked the regional centre as well as Myrove, Chervonohryhorivka, and Pokrovske communities using drones and artillery. Three apartment buildings, four private houses, a kindergarten, an agricultural company, a shop, an outbuilding, a garage, a swimming pool building, two cars, a gas pipeline, and power lines were damaged.

In Synelnykove region, the enemy targeted Malomykhailivka community by drones, causing a fire that damaged a private house. Drone strikes also hit Zelenodolsk and Hrushivka communities, damaging a vehicle and a petrol station.

Vinnytsia oblast

In Vinnytsia oblast, schoolchildren are assembling FPV drones and detectors for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In total, they have produced more than 60 unmanned aerial vehicles that are being used by troops at the front.

Kirovohrad oblast

Kropyvnytskyi paid tribute to serviceman Maksym Yefimenko. He was killed on 3 December 2024 in Donetsk oblast. He was 43 years old and had been listed as missing for a year.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Parents of the deceased soldier Mykola Misko received a posthumous state award – the III degree For Courage Order. Mykola Misko, Grenade Launcher of the 14th Brigade of the National Guard, was killed on 1 December 2023 during mortar shelling in Zaporizhzhia

Zakarpattia oblast

UAH 6m has been allocated from Uzhhorod budget to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The funds will be directed to the program to support military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, other military formations and paramilitary organizations for 2025, as well as the program to support the Military Unit A 4447.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The RMA reported that rescuers from Kherson oblast, together with their families, have regained strength in the Carpathian region.

Lviv oblast

The staff of Sokal Vocational Lyceum, together with caring residents of Sokal region, sent a pickup truck loaded with products, provisions, medicines, etc. to the 24th Separate Mortar Battalion Aidar. The assistance was collected in accordance with the soldiers’ requests.

Skole City Council sent a 7-channel electronic warfare system to counter FPV drones, DJI MAVIC “Barrier”, Kara Dag drone detector and necessary components to the National Guard of Ukraine.

Hrabovets-Dulibivska community sent 2 fast-charging units and 2 generators to the 24th King Danylo Motorized Rifle Brigade.

Rivne oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Jiri Borcel, new Consul General of the Czech Republic in Lviv. The key area of cooperation is the modernization of the regional clinical hospital.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil defenders receive one-time cash assistance for treatment and rehabilitation. In 2024, payments were provided to 295 soldiers.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that property worth over UAH 18m was sent to the Defense Forces.

Chernivtsi oblast

This year, 21 medical institutions in Bukovina signed agreements with the National Health Service of Ukraine under the Medical Guarantor Program. Of these, 14 institutions contracted the 53rd package Rehabilitation Assistance For Adults And Children In Inpatient Conditions for almost UAH 75m.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The European Union has agreed on its 19th package of sanctions against russia. This package of restrictions includes a previously announced ban on the import of russian natural gas, as well as new restrictions on the travel of russian “diplomats” to the EU and new sanctions on 117 vessels from moscow’s “shadow fleet”.

Ukraine has signed an agreement with Sweden to purchase up to 150 Gripen fighters.
