War in Ukraine today: latest news, 22 August, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 911th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The enemy continues its attempts to advance deeper into Ukrainian territory, while the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully repel these attacks, inflicting significant losses on the invaders. 

There were 78 engagements on the front line. 

The most intense fighting occurring towards Pokrovsk, where around 40% of all clashes in Ukraine took place.

russian artillery continues to bombard border areas of Sumy oblast. Villages such as Bachivsk, Rudak, Novovasylivka, Chernatske, Porozok, Slavhorod, Karpovychi, Hrabovske and Pokrovka have suffered from these shellings. Additionally, russian forces are bombing both Ukrainian and russian territories with guided bombs, carrying out 20 airstrikes today with the use of 38 KABs.

Towards Kharkiv, the occupiers attacked Ukrainian positions near Vovchansk twice. The battle is ongoing, with the situation under control. The enemy also used helicopter-fired NARs (unguided rockets) near Kozacha Lopan.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy launched seven attacks on Ukrainian positions. Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled enemy assaults near Synkivka, Hlushkivka, Stelmakhivka and towards Lozova. Kruhliakivka was hit by two russian airstrikes with aviation bombs.

Towards Lyman, russian forces attacked the vicinities of Novosadove, Hrekivka, Terny, Nevske, Torske and Dibrova. Since the start of the day, Ukrainian soldiers have repelled seven enemy attacks, with one battle still ongoing near Makiivka. The situation remains under control.

Towards Siversk, the enemy attacked five times near Bilohorivka, Vyimka and Spirne, unsuccessfully attempting to break through the Ukrainian defence.

Towards Kramatorsk, russian troops carried out six assaults near Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Hryhorivka and Chasiv Yar. The latter also suffered 22 airstrikes with unguided missiles.

Towards Toretsk, there were four enemy attacks. russian forces attacked near Niu-York and Nelipivka, but Ukrainian defenders successfully repelled all of them. The aggressor’s aviation carried out two unguided missile strikes on Druzhba, and two KABs were dropped near Pleshchiivka.

Towards Pokrovsk remains the hotspot, with the enemy attempting to displace Ukrainian forces from their positions in vicinities such as Vozdvyzhenka, Zelene Pole, Mykhailivka, Kalynove, Novohrodivka, Hrodivka, Mykolaivka, Ptyche, Kamyshivka, Myroliubivka, and Novotroitske. Nearly half of the clashes occurred near Mykolaivka and Novohrodivka, with Ukrainian defenders having already repelled 28 attacks.

Towards Kurakhove, the enemy launched 10 attacks, attempting to advance near Kostiantynivka and Karlivka, with battles ongoing.

Towards Vremivka, the enemy attacked Ukrainian positions three times, trying to advance toward Vuhledar and from the direction of Volodymyrivka.

Towards Orikhiv, Novodanylivka was hit by KAB strikes, while Novondriivka, Novodarivka and Piatykhatky were struck by unguided missiles.

Towards Kherson there weren’t any assault actions.


President Volodymyr Zelenskyy over 500 churches, prayer houses, and other religious buildings in Ukraine. All faith communities in Ukraine have suffered from the russian invasion.

Naftohaz reported that Ukraine has launched a new well that produces 274,000 cubic metres of gas per day. The unique feature of this well is that its planned bottom is located directly beneath a populated area.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

The General Staff said that Ukrainian defenders repelled 53 attacks and assaults towards Pokrovsk on 21 August. The highest concentration of russian attacks was near Novohrodivka and Mykhailivka.

Compared to the previous week, russian troops reduced the number of attacks on Pokrovsk front, while this area remains the most intense in terms of the number of attacks.

There were fewer battles towards – 13 per day. However, the number of attacks and assaults towards Kurakhove increased, and the pressure towards Lyman remains intense.

In total, the General Staff recorded more than 110 attacks and assaults by russia on the eastern front.

Kharkiv oblast

Towards Kharkiv, the occupiers stormed the positions of Ukrainian troops twice near Vovchansk. According to the General Staff, as of 4pm, the battle continues. The situation is under control. Also russia launched multiple rocket launchers from a Ka-52 helicopter near Kozacha Lopan.

The occupier attacked the positions of the Defence Forces seven times towards Kupiansk. Ukrainian defenders repelled attacks near Synkivka, Hlushkivka, Stelmakhivka and towards Lozova. The area around Kruhliakivka were under attack by two russian aerial bombs

 Kharkiv operational-strategic group reported that russian marines of the 155th Brigade from the Pacific Fleet have once again been deployed to positions towards Kharkiv. The participation of these soldiers in the offensive in the north of Kharkiv oblast began to be recorded in mid-June.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, informed that russia launched two missile strikes on Bohodukhiv, hitting a civilian enterprise. The man who was killed as a result of the strikes on Bohodukhiv was a young man who would have turned 57 tomorrow. He was tending to his garden when the russian Federation struck. 8 people were wounded in the attack. Among the wounded are a 15-year-old boy, a 50-year-old man, 28- and 45-year-old women. Apartment blocks and private residential buildings, outbuildings, premises of two civilian enterprises, and cars were damaged. The shelling also caused a 3-hectare fire in a forest near Semeniv Yar village in Bohodukhiv region. According to preliminary data, russian troops used Tornado-S MRLs for the attacks.

Anatolii Rystsov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that the wounded in Bohodukhiv are in a moderate condition. The russian military struck the territory outside the town and two more times in Bohodukhiv itself around 4pm.

Andrii Kanashevych, Head of Kupiansk Regional Military Administration, stated that before the new school year, russia launched UAV and rocket attacks on educational institutions in Hetmanivka and Odradne of Shevchenkove community. As a result of the attack, the House of Culture and a kindergarten were heavily damaged, lyceum buildings were severely damaged, and private houses and other administrative buildings were damaged.

Kharkiv OS groups reported that russian marines from the 155th Brigade of the Pacific Fleet have once again been deployed to positions towards Kharkiv. The participation of these servicemen in the offensive in the north of Kharkiv region began to be recorded in mid-June.

The press service of Kharkiv State Emergency Service said that a 65-year-old man exploded an unknown explosive device in Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi. He was hospitalised.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, stated that from 3:18 to 4:50am, russians attacked Hetmanivka village of Shevchenkove community, Kupiansk region. As a result of the shelling, private houses and social infrastructure facilities were burning. A 43-year-old man was injured.

At 3:14am, russians attacked Odradne village of Shevchenkove community, Kupiansk region. As a result of the shelling, the building of Shevchenkove village council was on fire.

At 2:20am, russians attacked Odradne billage, as a result of massive rocket fire and a Shahed UAV, the building of Shevchenkove Agricultural Lyceum was damaged.

At 2:19am, russians attacked Hetmanivka village of Shevchenkove community, Kupiansk region. As a result of the shelling, a non-residential building and at least 4 residential houses were burning. A woman was injured.

Yesterday the enemy used four X-35 missiles, seven FPV drones, and one Iskander against civilian infrastructure and unarmed residents of Kharkiv oblast.

At 5:47pm, russians attacked beyong Kamianka village of Izium region. A car was damaged as a result of an X-35 missile attack.

At 4:30pm, russians attacked Kupiansk. The shelling damaged a private house, a fence and a garage.

At 12:38pm, russians attacked beyond Petrivka village of Tsyrkune community, Kharkiv region. As a result of the shelling, grass, trees, reeds, 14 residential buildings, 8 outbuildings, a garage and a car were burning.

Viacheslav Zadorenko, Head of Derhachi community, citing the military, reported that at 12:36pm, russians attacked  Kozacha Lopan village of Derhachi community, Kharkiv region. The shelling damaged the building of the village council. A 56-year-old woman was injured. The russians hit the village council with two North Korean missiles. According to him, russia used the tactic of “a double strike”.

At 12:23pm, Pisky Radkivski village of Borova community, Izium region, was hit. There were no casualties.

At 11:30am, russians attacked a farm in Nechvolodivka village, Kurylivka community, Kupiasnk region. As a result of the shelling, hay and grass burned.

At 11:30am, russians attacked Shyikivka village of Borova community, Izium region. As a result of shelling from MRLs, grass and shrubs were burning, the fire area was 5 hectares.

At 11:23am, russians attacked Iziumske village of Borova community, Izium region. As a result of the shelling, logs and grass were burning.

At 9:20am, russians attacked Kupiansk. As a result of the shelling, grass was burning, the fire area was 1 hectare.

Towards Kharkiv, six combat engagements took place near Vovchansk and Lyptsi.

Towards Kupiansk, there were 16 hostile attacks yesterday. Defence forces repelled enemy assaults near Petropavlivka, Synkivka, Stelmakhivka, Berestove and Andriivka.

Kupiansk axis is currently the most difficult. Despite the lack of progress, the enemy keeps trying to seize the initiative. The occupiers intensified shelling of civilian targets with Uragan multiple rocket launchers and high-explosive fragmentation shells.

Donetsk oblast

Captain Oleh Kalashnikov, Spokesman of the 26th Artillery Brigade named after Lieutenant General Roman Dashkevych, reported that the russian army is pressuring and trying to break through the defences of Ukrainian units on both the southern and northern flanks near the town of Chasiv Yar. There is an area on the northern flank that the occupation forces consider weak, so they constantly send their infantry there.

Serhii Horbunov, Head of Kostiantynivka CMA and Olena Filipova, Medical Director of Kostiantynivka Multidisciplinary Intensive Care Hospital,  informed that on 22 August, russian troops fired several times at Kostiantynivka. Two people were wounded, one of them will be sent to a hospital in Dnipro.

The regional prosecutor’s office said that six more people were wounded in the shelling of Pleshchiivka, Novohrodivka and Toretsk.

Serhii Tsehotskyi, Spokesman of the 59th separate motorised infantry brigade, said that the russian army slightly reduced the number of attacks towards Pokrovsk yesterday due to the regrouping of troops, but in the morning of 22 August it resumed assaults on Ukrainian military positions. Also russian troops are continuing to advance towards Novohrodivka and fighting is also taking place on Pokrovsk-Karlivka road, near Mykolaivka.

Four people were killed and three wounded by russian shelling. The police recorded 2,588 enemy attacks on the frontline and residential areas.

Explosions were heard in 13 settlements: Hirnyk, Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Myrnohrad, Novohrodivka, Selydove, Siversk, Ukrainsk, Chasiv Yar, Velyka Novosilka, Petrivka, Veselyi Hai and Zoria.

55 civilian objects were destroyed, including 30 residential buildings, administrative buildings, a business, educational institutions, trade pavilions, cars and communications.

Russians attacked Kostiantynivka with artillery, killing a civilian, damaging three apartment blocks and three private houses, two educational institutions, an administrative building, a business and cars.

A civilian was killed in Ukrainske and two apartment buildings were damaged.

One person was killed in Siversk and one in Petrivka.

The occupiers attacked Selydove with a drone, injuring a civilian and damaging 10 trade pavilions in the market.

One person was injured in Novohrodivka and Chasiv Yar.

In Velyka Novosilka, 14 private houses were damaged as a result of a drone attack.  In Myrnohrad, the enemy damaged an apartment building and two private houses with mortars.

Forty people under the care of social workers from the local territorial centre were evacuated from Myrnohrad on 21 August. Three social workers from the centre went with the evacuees to Tsarychanka community in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Five people were also evacuated from Myrnohrad hospital.

Luhansk oblast

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk Regional Military Administration, reported tht the occupiers are destroying frontline settlements, directing fire at residential buildings. Another destruction was recorded in Nevske. The russians recently shelled the village with cannon and rocket artillery, completely destroying a house and outbuildings nearby.

No one was injured because the owner of the house had left for a safer oblast of the country in advance. In addition to artillery, the invaders are using drones, which is affecting neighbouring Makiivka. The enemy also carried out an air strike yesterday.

Combat actions took place near Stelmakhivka, Andriivka, Makiivka, Hrekivka and Serhiivka.

A camp was set up in Kuzbass for school students whose parents went to fight on the side of russia. The camp gathered boys and girls, including children of fallen militants, from the occupied territories of Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts. For 14 days, they will take courses in military training, tactical medicine, survival in extreme environmental conditions, and piloting unmanned aerial vehicles.

Residents of the occupied Rubizhne have little hope of receiving qualified medical care in the city. Those who have the opportunity go to Luhansk for treatment or examination. Because most of the narrow specialists in Rubizhne are not available at all. There is also a shortage of general practitioners. Vouchers are issued to a maximum of five people a day. For more than two years, local collaborators have done virtually nothing to purchase equipment or find medical staff. 

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

According to the RMA, the enemy attacked Kyiv oblast with UAVs. Air defence forces were deployed. The wreckage of the downed targets was recorded outside of populated areas. There were no hits to critical and residential infrastructure. There were no casualties.

Mobile rescue centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that in Pylypovychi village sappers of the State Emergency Service found and seized a warhead of a Shahed-136 drone.

In Bucha region, a resident of a village found an enemy hand-held anti-tank grenade launcher on his land plot. Pyrotechnic group of the SES Mobile Rescue Centre removed the dangerous object.

Kyiv City Military Administration announced that in Kyiv, the building at 19 Volodymyra Salskoho Street, which was damaged as a result of the russian attack on 8 July, will be restored at the city budget expense. The instrumental inspection of the building has already been completed, and the report on its technical condition has been handed over to the utility company, to carry out all the necessary restoration work.

The Government of Finland will finance the construction of a green school in Kyiv oblast. The new school will replace two educational institutions in Mykulychi village, Bucha district, which were destroyed by the russians in March-February 2022. The school will be equipped with solar photovoltaic panels for additional and backup power. The institution will provide places for internally displaced persons and children with disabilities.

On 23 August, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard and Tana Sribna invite women to join a warm creative circle for psychological support and rehabilitation during the war, as well as handicrafts. The event will take place in Kyiv at Vcentri Hub: Shevchenkivskyi. Topic: ‘Creating various toys from a string: a horse, a bird, a boy doll, a girl doll’.

The settlement military administration reported that a Resilience Centre for community residents has been opened in Hostomel. It offers free social services and psychological assistance.

On 21 August, a charity sports festival ‘Iron eggs’ was held on the beach in Kozyn, bringing together sports enthusiasts, civilians and veterans. The event was organised to raise funds for a sports prosthesis worth UAH 450,000 for an Armed Forces serviceman with the call sign Dalnobii. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr city council reported that community is completing the construction of a new modular town for internally displaced persons. The project is already at the final stage: 40 houses are now fully completed, and another 16 are under construction. The construction is being funded by the Italian Red Cross and local budget.

In the centre of Zhytomyr, the installation of the Alley to commemorate the Heroes who died for Ukraine has begun. Some of the sections of the memorial composition have already been installed, which is to feature 600 names and photos of the returning Heroes on a shield.

Zhytomyr City Council reported that five families of servicemen killed in battle for Ukraine were presented with state awards – Orders For Courage of the III degree (posthumously). 

Sumy oblast

Sumy Oblast Prosecutor’s Office reported that on 22 August, around 1pm, russian forces struck Esman community by two guided aerial bombs. As a result, two civilian men were killed, and one woman was injured and hospitalised. The russian military dropped two KABs on the civilian infrastructure of Esman community in Shostka region. The deceased men were 74 and 67 years old. The wife of one of the victims was injured and is now in the hospital.

During night and morning, russians carried out 28 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in  Sumy oblast, resulting in 75 explosions. The attacks targeted   Mykolaivka, Yunakivka, Khotin, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Putyvl, Nova Slobidka, Hlukhiv, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda and Svesa communities.

On 21 August, russians carried out 113 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in  Sumy oblast, resulting in 256 explosions. The attacks targeted  Sumy, Khotin, Yunakivka, Myropillia, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Putyvl, Nova Slobidka, Berezivka, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhine, Druzhba, Seredyna-Buda and Znob-Novhorodske communities.

Velyka Pysarivka community: artillery strikes (8 explosions), mortar strikes (19 explosions),  explosions from FPV drones (2 explosions).

Krasnopillia community: russians dropped 46 mines on community, injuring 3 civilians. Additional artillery strikes (55 explosions), UAV dropped of explosive devices (2 explosions),  one KAB strike (1 explosion) and FPV drone strikes (5 explosions).

Hlukhiv community: FPV drone explosions (18 explosions), injuring 1 civilian. Also, 10 grenade launcher (AGS) explosions.

Esman community: 6 mines shells, 1 FPV drone explosion.

Shalyhyne community: airstrikes by KAB munitions (6 explosions), FPV drones attacked (17 explosions).

Putyvl community:  Shahed-type UAV strike (1 explosion).

Druzhba community:  FPV drones explosions (19 explosions) and artillery strike (1 explosion), injuring 1 civilian. Additionally, airstrikes by KAB munitions (2 explosions).

Znob-Novhorodske community: russians dropped 6 mines.   FPV drones attaked (2 explosions).

Bilopillia community: the enemy hitted by mortar (8 explosions), by artillery (3 explosions), by FPV drone (3 explosions).

Nova Slobidka community: the enemy dropped 7 mines. Also,  russians attacked by FPV drones  (2 explosion), airstrikes by KAB munitions (3 explosions).

Myropillia community: FPV drone attacked (5 explosions),  Lancet UAV strike (1 explosion).

Khotin community:  Lancet UAV strike (1 explosion).

Berezivka community:  airstrikes by KAB munitions (2 explosions).

Seredyna-Buda community: FPV drone attacked (3 explosions).

Yunakivka community: airstrikes by KAB munitions (6 explosions).

Sumy community: russians carried out missile strike (1 explosion).

The Ministry of Energy informed that in Sumy oblast 915 consumers in three settlements are without power due to technical reasons. In total, 101 settlements remain without electricity, affecting 8,200 consumers, with 7,300 of them cut off due to the ongoing hostilities.

Chernihiv oblast

On 21 August, russian forces attacked three settlements in border of Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka and Horodnia. The enemy used artillery, mortar and FPV-drones. In total, border guards recorded 48 explosions.

Novhorod-Siverskyi community:

Towards Hremiach: 1 hit,  likely from FPV drone;

Around Mykhalchyna Sloboda – 13 hits, likely by artillery;

Semenivka community:

Towards Baranivka: 2 hits, likely by a 120mm mortar;
Towards Semenivka: 2 hits by FPV drones (fixed-wing type) and nine hits, likely by barrel artillery;
Towards Bleshnia: 7 hits, likely by a 120mm mortar.

Horodnia community:
Towards Senkivka: 14 hits, likely by a 120mm mortar.

No casualties or injuries from shelling among the local population have been reported.

Chernihiv Police reported that in a field near one of the villages in Nizhyn region, missile fragments and a five-meter-deep crater were discovered. Explosive experts identified the fragments as parts of an Iskander missile, which russia has used in strikes against Ukraine. Some of the recovered fragments have been sent for examination.

In September of last year, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) announced the launch of the “Latvia for Chernihiv: Restoration of Social Infrastructure” project, funded by the Republic of Latvia with a contribution of 2 million euros. In less than a year, a significant project has been completed—the renovation of Talalaivka Lyceum in Nizhyn region. The renovation included insulating the facade of one of the buildings and conducting a major overhaul of the cafeteria.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that the enemy shelled Nikopol region with artillery late in the evening and at night. They targeted the region centre and Chervonohryhorivka. Two private houses, 2 outbuildings, infrastructure and a power line were damaged. In the morning, the occupiers attacked Nikopol with kamikaze drones.

Throughout the day, the occupiers attacked Nikopol region more than a dozen times. In the region centre, an 81-year-old woman was injured by an enemy drone strike. The enemy also fired artillery and kamikaze drones at Chervonohryhorivska, Marhanets and Myrove. Several fires broke out, a multi-storey building, 3 private houses and power lines were damaged.

In Dnipropetrovsk oblast, volunteers opened a centre for evacuated animals. According to founder Serhii Ludenskyi, since February 2022, he and his team have been taking dogs and cats from the frontline towns of Sumy, Kherson and Donetsk oblasts almost every week.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​Vinnytsia hosted the first regional sports games for war veterans called Unbreakable Vinnytsia. Competitive venues in various sports were set up at 11 locations for veterans of the russian-Ukrainian war.

Kirovohrad oblast

A bicycle ride dedicated to the fallen soldiers took place in Onufriivka in Kirovohrad Oblast: Hero of Ukraine Yulian Stupak, soldiers Viktor Sevastoanov, Mykola Yalynych, Mykola Lutsenko and Vasyl Tytar.

A Stele of Remembrance to Ukrainian defenders was installed in Sokolivka. It contains photographs and brief information about 68 residents who died during the 10 years of the russian-Ukrainian war.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, announced that a security space has been opened in a psychoneurological boarding school in Zolotonosha region. The shelter with all the necessary equipment was created thanks to the Red Cross Society of Ukraine of the oblast organisation with the support of the Canadian Red Cross.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 21 August, russian forces attacked 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast, with 310 ‎attacks recorded.‎

The occupiers carried out an airstrike on Piatykhatky. They also targeted Huliaipole, ‎Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Poltavka and ‎Uspenivka, deploying 182 UAVs of various modifications. Also, there were 4 attacks by ‎enemy MLRS, which targeted Mala Tokmachka and Novodanylivka.‎

The enemy conducted 123 shellings on the areas of Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, ‎Novodanylivka, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, Poltavka, Preobrazhenka and ‎Zelenyi Hai.‎

Zaporizhzhia RMA received 71 reports from civilians about the destruction of residential ‎buildings and infrastructure. There were no reports of casualties or injuries.‎

On 21 August, a series of fires broke out in the frontline Polohy region as a result of ‎shelling. Firefighters extinguished 5 fires in frontline communities. In Zelenyi Hai, ‎shelling caused 3 houses to catch fire, covering a total area of 220 sq m, and 6 ‎outbuildings covering 120 sq m. In Uspenivka, a Tavria car caught fire. There were no ‎casualties from the fires.‎

Mykolaiv oblast

The russian occupation forces continue to terrorize residents of Mykolaiv oblast. On 21 ‎August, the occupiers launched a ballistic missile, reportedly an Iskander-M, at ‎Bereznehuvate community. The strike caused a fire on the territory of a farm, in bushes ‎and 2 private residential buildings. Rescuers evacuated 4 residents.‎

Also, the enemy’s army shelled Kutsurub community by artillery. There were no ‎casualties reported.‎

A unit of the Ukrainian Naval Forces destroyed an enemy ammunition depot and fuel ‎and lubricants storage on Kinburn Spit in the Black Sea.‎

It is worth noting that Dmytro Pletenchuk, Spokesperson for the Ukrainian Naval Forces, ‎explained the strategic importance of Kinburn Spit for both Ukraine and the occupying ‎forces. According to him, this area is crucial as a route to the sea ports of Mykolaiv. ‎From Kinburn Spit, the occupiers can strike Mykolaiv and other cities.‎

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, met with Rostyslav Satana, Founder of the POHUY ‎brand. He launched the PHYSICAL LEVEL project, which provides adaptive clothing for ‎wounded Ukrainian defenders on a charitable basis. The designer donated about 200 ‎sets of adaptive clothing to wounded defenders undergoing treatment in Mykolaiv. The ‎idea for such clothing was proposed by one of the wounded soldiers. The clothing, ‎designed with Velcro fastenings, aims to help wounded soldiers live and heal more ‎comfortably.‎

Odesa oblast

According to the Ukrainian Air Forces, in the night of 22 August, the occupiers attacked ‎Odesa by 2 Kh-31P anti-radiation missiles. Due to active countermeasures, most of the ‎enemy’s missiles did not reach their targets. Preliminary reports indicate that there were ‎no casualties or serious consequences.‎

U.S. Congress members visited the port of Odesa. During the meeting, they familiarised ‎themselves with the operations of the ports in Greater Odesa under wartime conditions. ‎Celeste Maloy, Utah Congresswoman, and Donald Norcross, New Jersey ‎Congressman observed the consequences of russian terror and planned the next steps ‎to support Ukraine.‎

Kherson oblast

The de-occupied settlements in Beryslav, Kherson and Kakhovka regions were again ‎under russian attack. The occupiers struck by artillery, MLRS, aviation and UAVs. There ‎is 1 killrd and 14 wounded among the civilian population.‎

The strikes targeted Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Veletenske, Tomyna ‎Balka, Komyshany, Kizomys, Bilozirka, Novodmytrivka, Pryozerne, Poniativka, ‎Mykilske, Beryslav, Shliakhove, Zolota Balka, Chervonyi Maiak, Vysoke, ‎Novooleksandrivka and Vesele.‎

As a result of the shelling, the following were damaged:‎

The russian war criminals struck a kindergarten in Zolota Balka by an FPV drone, ‎causing a fire in the building.‎

As a result of russian artillery shelling in Mykilske, 3 private houses were damaged and a ‎‎64-year-old woman suffered an explosive injury and a gunshot wound to the torso.‎

In the morning, the occupiers shelled Komyshany. A 72-year-old woman and 2 men ‎aged 66 and 74 were injured in the enemy artillery shelling. The elderly people suffered ‎explosive injuries, concussions, acute stress reactions and shrapnel wounds. 2 private ‎houses were damaged.‎

The кussians dropped explosives from a drone on Kizomys, injuring a 57-year-old man. ‎The victim was hospitaliіed with a concussion, explosive injuries and a traumatic brain ‎injury. A private house was damaged.‎

Artillery shelling damaged an apartment building in Veletenske, 2 private houses in ‎Bilozirka, the same number in Novodmytrivka and one in Pryozerne. russian forces also ‎struck Veletenske by an FPV drone, damaging an apartment building.‎

The occupying forces carried out an airstrike by 4 guided bombs on Shliakhove and ‎Vesele, causing extensive damage to 12 residential buildings.‎

The russian forces attacked Tomyna Balka by an FPV drone, targeting a lyceum. The ‎building suffered significant damage. The village was also shelled by MLRS, but no local ‎residents were harmed.‎

The enemy struck Antonivka by artillery, killing an 84-year-old woman in her yard. 3 ‎private houses, a car and a garage were damaged, and the shelling caused a fire in a ‎church.‎

In Kherson and its suburbs, russian military forces carried out mass attacks on civilians ‎and vehicles by drones and artillery.‎

A 57-year-old man was struck by an enemy drone in Dniprovskyi district, suffering ‎explosive injuries, a traumatic brain injury, concussion and brain contusion. ‎Residential areas also suffered from artillery shelling, with 4 private houses damaged.‎

In Korabelnyi district, artillery shelling damaged 2 private houses, a tractor and a ‎pipeline. The old city centre was also hit by an FPV drone, damaging an apartment ‎building. Another apartment building was damaged by explosives dropped from a UAV.‎

At dawn, the russians hit Kherson centre by MLRS. Significant damage was caused to a ‎shopping centre building that housed a humanitarian headquarters, a medical facility, ‎a church, 2 administrative buildings, an educational institution, a vocational school, a ‎sports school, a café, 2 apartment buildings and 4 private houses. The shelling also ‎caused a dry grass fire in a park.‎

In the morning, a 54-year-old employee of the RMA, on her way to work, was struck by ‎an enemy drone on a central street. The woman suffered a mine-explosive injury and ‎concussion.‎

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that 12 children, previously ‎located in temporarily occupied territories, were returned to Ukrainian government-‎controlled areas. This was made possible through the Bring Kids Back UA initiative ‎launched by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The children, along with their families, were ‎evacuated from the temporarily occupied part of Kherson oblast. Among the rescued ‎were 2 boys and 4 girls aged 3 to 12.‎

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council sent a KVERTUS AD COUNTER FPV BACKPACK portable radio-electronic means of combating unmanned aerial vehicles to the 15th Separate Mountain Assault Battalion thanks to the budget funds.

The RMA were presented the III degree and II degree For Courage orders, the Defender of the Fatherland and For Military Service to Ukraine medals (posthumously) to relatives of fallen heroes.

The oblast is preparing to introduce the updated subject Defense of Ukraine into the educational program. A specialised educational space can be created in an institution of general secondary education, vocational and technical education, or a vocational pre-university with an appropriate number of students in grades 9-11.

Zakarpattia oblast

In the oblast, servicemen of Chop Detachment honoured the memory of Mykola Sasyn, fallen border guard. The defender was killed on 27 August 2023 during enemy fire in Bakhmut while performing a combat mission. On the anniversary of Hero’s death, border guards laid flowers at his grave and observed a moment of silence. Archpriest Serhii Yemets, military chaplain, served the funeral service for the soul of the departed soldier.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

At noon, during an air alert, the enemy again attacked the regional centre of Prykarpattia. There were no victims or destruction.

The RMA held a meeting with Nadir Khan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Ukraine. They discussed supporting business, creating a favourable economic and investment climate

The RMA held a meeting with Iryna Loredana Stanculescu, Consul General of Romania in Chernivtsi. They discussed support for Ukraine and Prykarpattia.

Lviv oblast

Lviv oblast sent equipment worth UAH 10m to the Airborne Assault Troops thanks to the Safe Lviv Oblast regional program.

Singer SHUMEI (Oleh Shumei) sent 12 FPV drones to units of the National Guard of Ukraine thanks to the funds from the concerts.

In Lviv oblast, an open archery training was held for veterans undergoing rehabilitation. The sports event took place at the educational and sports base of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. In total, 20 veterans took part in the training. These are military personnel who are currently undergoing rehabilitation in rehabilitation centres of Lviv oblast.

Rivne oblast

The RMA held a meeting of the staff on evacuation of citizens from dangerous areas. Another special train from Donetsk will arrive in Rivne this week. This time, communities of Rivne region will host the evacuated population from the East.

32 children from Kochubeivka community spent 2 weeks vacationing in Rivne oblast. This was one of the steps taken by Rivne oblast to support liberated Kherson oblast within the framework of the Side by Side Presidential initiative. During the year, 178 residential buildings have already been restored in the community by Rivne oblast.

Rivne oblast is preparing for the autumn-winter period and the community is buying firewood. The total demand for solid fuel in Rivne oblast today is almost 130,000 cubic metres. At the same time, foresters are ready to provide this amount of firewood on time and without additional felling. There are already 18,400 cubic metres of firewood in the warehouses of the branches of the forest office.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil community sent 30 FPV drones and 2 DJI Mavic 3 quadcopters to the military thanks to the budgetary funds.

Ternopil City Council sent 40 FPV drones to one of the battalions formed at Ternopil base thanks to the budgetary funds.

Ternopil City Council reported that the Military Unit A7169 received the Awards of Ternopil City Council for personal courage and dedication, shown in the defence of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

During the morning air raids in Khmelnytskyi oblast, 2 enemy UAVs of the Shahed type were neutralised. All relevant services work at the event locations. There were no deaths, injuries or damage to property.

Khmelnytskyi community sent 300 FPV drones, namely, 100 pieces of 7-inch, 100 pieces of 10-inch, which were purchased at a budget price, as well as 100 FPV drones of the own assembly, to the military.

Khmelnytskyi City Council allocated over UAH 8m for payments to families of victims. These are payments for the title of Honorary Citizen. Payment for one family – 20 minimum wages (UAH 160,000).

Chernivtsi oblast

Sokyrian City Council allocated UAH 300,000 from the local budget to purchase and maintenance of vehicles, means of individual and armoured protection, UAV complexes, military equipment, etc, to the newly created Rifle Battalion of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernivtsi oblast. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The Netherlands will buy over 50 mobile radars for Ukraine. The website of the Ministry of Defense of the Netherlands states that systems are able to detect small drones and distinguish them from birds. A unique feature of radars is that they perform their work on a mobile platform. Radars monitor the environment for the presence of drones, even at high speeds.

The Swiss government decided to support the 14th package of EU sanctions on bans on russian diamonds, which are agreed at the international level.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. They discussed supporting the people of Ukraine.

Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of the President, had a phone conversation with Adolfo Urso, Minister of Enterprise and Production of Italy. They agreed to strengthen cooperation and to hold a Ukraine-Italy conference to strengthen cooperation between Ukrainian and Italian businesses.

Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, urged not to limit Ukraine’s use of Western weapons against the russian federation. He said that lifting the ban would save lives and reduce destruction in Ukraine, strengthen Kyiv’s self-defence, and help advance peace efforts.
