War in Ukraine today: latest news, 21 March, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 747th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

During the day of 21 March, there were 67x tactical engagements.

The enemy launched a total of 36x missile and 50x air strikes, 96x MLRS attacks on positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Residential apartment blocks and private houses got destroyed and damaged.

Volyn and Polissya axes: no significant changes. No signs of formation of an offensive group.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the russian areas bordering Ukraine. The enemy troops conduct subversion in order to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened axes. The enemy continues shelling of Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increases the concentration of mining operations along the state border of Ukraine. The adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Vorozhba, Hrytsenkove, (Sumy oblast). More than 20x settlements came under enemy artillery and mortar fire, including Leonivka (Chernihiv oblast), Chernatske, Baranivka, Sosnivka, Khodyne, Boiaro-Lezhachi, Iskryskivshchyna, Katerynivka (Sumy oblast), Udy, Kozacha Lopan’, Ambarne (Kharkiv oblast).

Kupiansk axis: the enemy, using air attacks, executed 1x unsuccessful assault on position of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinity of Synkivka (Kharkiv oblast). The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Nadiya (Luhansk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Zapadne, Synkivka, Stepova Novoselivka, Kotlyarivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 10x assaults in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Spirne, Rozdolivka, Vesele (Donetsk oblast), where the enemy, using air attacks, made attempts to breach Ukrainian defence. The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Novosadove (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 15x settlements, including Makiivka, Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Terny, Yampolivka, Torske, Serebryanka (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 14x attacks in the vicinities of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, Andriivka (Donetsk oblast). The enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Hryhorivka, Kalynivka and Niu-York (Donetsk oblast). Around 10x settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Chasiv Yar, Klishchiivka, Andriivka (Donetsk oblast).

Avdiivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 4x attacks in the vicinities of Berdychi, Semenivka, Tonenke, Pervomaiske (Donetsk oblast). The occupiers launched air strikes in the vicinities of Novobakhmutivka, Orlivka (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 20x settlements, including Novobakhmutivka, Berdychi, Pervomaiske, Nevelske (Donetsk oblast).

Novopavlivka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to block the enemy near Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast). In that area, the invaders, using air attacks, made 24x attempts to breach Ukrainian defense. The adversary launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Kurakhove (Donetsk oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at around 20x settlements, including Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, Paraskoviivka, Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast).

Orikhiv axis: the enemy, with air support, conducted 6x attacks on positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast) and Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 15x settlements, including Malynivka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Novodanylivka, P’yatykhatky (Zaporizhzhia oblast), were under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.

Kherson axis: the enemy did not conduct any offensive operations. The settlement of Ivanivka (Kherson oblast), was under artillery and mortar fire of the occupiers.

During the day of 21 March, the Ukrainian Air Force launched air strikes on 7x concentrations of troops, weapons and military equipment. 2x anti-aircraft missile systems of the occupiers.

The Ukrainian Missile Forces hit 1x artillery system and 2x air defence systems of the russian invaders.

The Ministry of Health reported that the number of patients with PTSD in Ukraine is growing. Thus, in 2023, the number of patients with PTSD increased almost by four compared to 2021, and in the first two months of 2024, almost the same number of patients were diagnosed as in the whole of 2021.

Ukrainian Member of Parliament Roman Lozynskyi stated that the renaming of 5 cities, 104 villages and towns was supported by the Verkhovna Rada committee. The final decision to rename the cities must be approved by members at a session of the Verkhovna Rada. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that Ukrainian troops repelled 60 russian attacks on the frontlines of Donetsk oblast. The russian army stormed towards Lyman and Novopavlivka with the support of aviation. 

Kharkiv oblast

Kharkiv police chief Volodymyr Tymoshko said that russia used an X-35 anti-ship missile during a strike on Kharkiv on 20 March.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that seven of the nine injured as a result of the hit on 20 March were hospitalised. One of the injured refused to be hospitalised, while another person is being treated on an outpatient basis.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov informed that 20 March has been declared a day of mourning in Kharkiv for those killed in the attack on the enterprise.

Serhii Bolvinov, Head of the police investigation department, said that forensic experts will compare DNA samples of the five people killed in russian strike on Kharkiv on 20 March and their possible relatives. The victims are preliminarily identified as two women and three men. A total of 65 people were in the building at the time of the attack. He added that the missile’s speed at the time of impact could have been over 1000km per hour.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that five people went missing as a result of a russian strike on Kholodnohirskyi district on 20 March. They have been identified, but they are neither among the injured nor the killed.

Yevhen Vasylenko, Іpokesman of the regional State Emergency Service, reported that 180 rescuers and 38 pieces of specialised equipment were working at the site of the hit in Kholodnohirskyi district.  In the afternoon, firefighters continued to work because the damaged building was still smouldering.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv RMA, noted that about 15 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were targeted by enemy artillery and mortar attacks: Hatyshche, Vovchansk, Budarky, Ambarne, Dvorichna, Synkivka and others. Oleksandrivka, Kozacha Lopan and Veterynarne were hit by airstrikes.

At 10:40pm, a rocket attack on Barvinkove, Izium region, damaged an administrative building, equipment and a high-voltage wire line. A 42-year-old man was injured but not hospitalised.

At 9pm, three private houses were damaged as a result of the shelling of Vovchansk. There were no casualties.

At 7:30pm, the enemy shelled Kozacha Lopan village, Kharkiv region, damaging a private house. There was no information about casualties.

At 3:20pm, a house, a car and a fence were damaged as a result of enemy shelling of Vovchansk. There were no casualties.

At 2:43pm, there was an enemy shelling of Kurylivka village, Kupiansk district. The shelling hit the territory. There were no casualties.

At 1pm, the enemy shelled Kharkiv by a rocket launcher, hitting a production facility. Warehouses, a car and an apartment block were also damaged. 9 people were injured: 7 of them were hospitalised, 1 refused hospitalisation and 1 person was treated on an ambulatory care basis. 5 people were killed.

At 9am, a car was damaged in Dvorichna village, Kupiansk region, as a result of a hostile UAV hit. There were no casualties.

At 8:18am, the roof of a house and an outbuilding on the square burned down as a result of shelling in Podoly village, Kupiansk region. There were no casualties.

According to the General Staff, the enemy did not conduct any offensive towards Kupiansk yesterday.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 35.24 hectares of mines and destroyed 472 explosive ordnance.

16 children and their families were evacuated. To date, 149 children have been evacuated from two communities: 37 from Vilkhuvatka and 112 from Velykyi Burluk.

Donetsk oblast

The press service of Donetsk police informed that around 3am, russian terrorists fired two missiles at Selydove. At least 11 houses (8 apartment buildings and 3 private ones), an administrative building, a shop, a garage and three civilian cars were damaged. There is no information about the casualties so far.

Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that on 20 March, two people were killed and two others injured by russian shelling of Maksymivka.

The police recorded 1536 enemy attacks in the oblast, 18 of which were on residential areas. 11 settlements were under attack: Hirnyk, Krasnohorivka, Toretsk cities, Zhelanne, Ocheretyne settlements, Veselyi Hai, Hannivka, Maksymivka, Maksimilianivka, Mykolaivka and Novobakhmutivka villages. 36 civilian objects were damaged, including 32 residential buildings, a school, a kindergarten and shops.

The invaders launched another KAB-500 at Hirnyk. Two civilians were injured, 11 apartment buildings, 2 shops and 2 educational institutions destroyed.

The russian army shelled Toretsk by artillery, damaging 6 private houses.

Also russia dropped two KAB-500 guided bombs on Maksymivka, killing two residents and damaging 10 private houses.

Svitlana Ostapkova, Head of Myrnohrad Society for the Protection of Animals, reported that animal rights activists want to evacuate 300 animals from the shelter to a safer city. According to her, shelling has become more frequent in the city so they are looking for money to take the dogs and cats out. There are 300 animals in Myrnohrad shelter: 35 cats and the rest are dogs. All of them were either abandoned or injured, and now volunteers are taking care of them. Yurii Tretiak, Head of the CMA, said that the shelling of Myrnohrad has become more intense and more people are leaving the city.

Volunteers of the Futurama NGO distributed humanitarian aid in Kramatorsk: mothers and children received diapers, baby formula, clothes and toys.

Luhansk oblast

While Kupiansk axis remains relatively quiet, Ukrainian defence forces repelled russian attacks near Bilohorivka and Zolotarivka towards Lyman. According to Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the enemy attempted to launch an assault there with the support of aviation. The territory of Serebrianka forestry, Nevske and Bilohorivka were under enemy artillery attack.

The regional authorities, community representatives, volunteers, charities and law enforcers help residents who stayed in the liberated villages. The day before, Krasnorichensk Military Administration brought bread and ordered medicines to Nevske and Novoliubivka. Volunteers distributed food parcels to the residents.

During the elections in the so-called “lpr”, people were allowed to vote with Ukrainian documents because the invaders had failed to issue passports. Now they are forcing people to obtain russian passports using new methods. For instance, utility workers in Luhansk were forbidden to check water meters unless the homeowner presents a russian ID card, an individual personal account insurance number and a taxpayer registration number.

Residents of small settlements in the occupied Luhansk oblast have repeatedly complained about the lack of or irregular transport links between villages and district centres: a bus runs to Lutuhyne from the surrounding settlements once a week. It is impossible to get to larger towns quickly and at an affordable price.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

At night, the enemy attacked Ukraine with cruise and ballistic missiles that entered from the north, the main direction of the attack was Kyiv. For the attack, the russian military used 29 Kh-101 cruise missiles from 11 Tu-95MS strategic bombers and two ballistic missiles. The Air Force of Ukraine reported that as a result of combat operations, all enemy missiles were shot down on the approach to Kyiv.

Kyiv Regional Military Administration informed that as a result of the russian attack in the oblast, two apartment buildings and 47 private buildings, an educational institution, and 12 vehicles were damaged, four people injured. Fires started at the places where the debris fell and they were contained.

The State Emergency Service reported that in Kyiv, according to preliminary information, as a result of enemy shelling, 13 people (including a child) were injured (4 hospitalised), 79 people evacuated. Due to the fall of fragments of enemy rockets, significant damage and destruction occurred in Podilskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts of the city. Kyiv City State Administration reported that six educational institutions were damaged by a russian missile attack.

The US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink, commenting on the russian missile strikes on the capital, reported that on 20 March, a meeting of national security advisors from countries around the world took place in Kyiv, where they discussed the “peace formula” of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. The meeting in the capital was not officially announced.

Admiral Rob Bauer, Head of the NATO Military Committee, arrived in Kyiv for the first time since the start of the full-scale war. He spoke at Kyiv Security Forum and stated that the members of the North Atlantic Alliance are doing everything for Ukraine to become a member of NATO.

On 20 March, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands Kaisa Ollongren visited the capital and met with the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi. She announced a new aid package.

Ruslan Nychik, Head of the Infrastructure Development and Reconstruction Service of Kyiv oblast, announced that instead of a five-story building destroyed by a russian rocket, a new one with nine floors is being built in Vasylkiv. The builders have completed the foundation and are starting to erect the monolithic frame of the high-rise building.

Bucha City Council reported that the community collected over UAH 3.3m for the purchase of drones. Currently, together with the BRAVO UKRAINE charitable foundation, the community is collecting UAH 4m for the purchase of 150 kamikaze drones for three brigades. One of the partners of Bucha Drone project was the Lokalist.Vesnovy festival, which took place the day before in the city.

First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska announced that the VII International Forum “Creative Ukraine” took place in Kyiv – the largest platform in Eastern Europe for discussing state policy in the field of culture and creative industries. The purpose of the event is to demonstrate how a new Ukrainian culture is reinterpreted and born in the crucible of war and what contribution it makes to Ukraine’s struggle against russian aggression. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr RMA reported that with the financing of the European Union and the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine, restoration works are ongoing in Horodotskyi Lyceum in the oblast. The educational institution is being restored thanks to the ECHO4SCHOOLS-UA: Build Back Better project.

In Zhytomyr, border guards of the 9th detachment named after Sich Riflemen received unmanned aerial vehicles and reconnaissance quadcopters from benefactors. Representatives of the Strength of the People of Ukraine NGO, the United Volunteer Movement NGO and the Religious Community of St. Michael’s Cathedral of the city of Zhytomyr handed over help to the defenders.

Zhytomyr RMA reported that the ‘Vira. Nadiia. Liubov’ Norwegian charitable mission handed over charitable aid for children and military doctors of the oblast. Among the help received was a Volkswagen ambulance.

Sumy oblast

Sumy RMA reported that on the night and morning of 21 March, russians carried out 12 shellings of the oblast. A total of 88 strikes were recorded, including 5 airstrikes – launches of guided bombs from tactical aircraft. Khotyn, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka and Seredyna-Buda communities came under shelling.

On 20 March, the russian military carried out 56 shellings of Sumy oblast – a total of 390 explosions were recorded. 12 territorial communities were shelled: Mykolaiv, Khotyn, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Myropillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Shalyhine, Esman, Druzhbivka, Svesa, Seredyna-Buda.

A person was injured as a result of shelling of Bilopillia community. Shelling by artillery (37 explosions), mortars (12 explosions), SPG-9 grenade launcher (22 explosions) was recorded on the territory of the community. There was also an attack by FPV-type kamikaze drones (2 explosions).

The enemy shelled the territory of Velyka Pysarivka community by MLRS (84 explosions), artillery (71 explosions), mortars (24 explosions), launched unguided missles from a helicopter (17 explosions), dropped guided bombs KAB from tactical aircraft (7 explosions).

The enemy launched an airstrike on the territory of Seredyna-Buda community – 2 RBK-500 SHOB strikes. The community was also affected by an FPV kamikaze drone attack and mortar shelling.

Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that the enemy fired mortars at Yunakivka community. As a result of the shelling, one person was injured.

The regional police reported that in general, three civilians from the villages of Iskryskivshchyna, Hrytsenkove and Basivka were wounded as a result of shelling in Sumy oblast on 20 March. 6 private houses, an administrative building, a workshop and a garage were also damaged.

The State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine reported that access to the signal of radio channels and Ukrainian television was restored in Sumy, Trostianets and Shostka. Engineers restored power and repaired damaged equipment. Currently, restoration work is ongoing at other damaged objects in Sumy oblast.

Head of Sumy Regional Military Administration said that they are creating the most powerful fortification in the oblast since independence. Two oblasts came to the rescue – Lviv oblast and Ternopil oblast. Local contractors work together with organisations from other regions to efficiently, quickly and efficiently complete the task of strengthening the border. Thousands of people and hundreds of units of special construction equipment are involved in the work.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv border detachment reported that yesterday russian troops fired 38 mortar and barrel artillery strikes on the border of the oblast in seven cases. The communities of Semenivka and Snovsk were under shelling.

Six modular shelters appeared at public transport stops in Chernihiv. About ten people can hide from the fragments in each of them. Starting today, the new shelters are available for use and must be open at all times, except during curfews. The initiative is implemented by the SafePlaceUA charity project.

Three vocational and technical education institutions of Chernihiv oblast were included in the list of the first 72 vocational schools of Ukraine, where they will teach professions for the reconstruction of the country. Educational and practical centres will be created on the basis of Chernihiv Higher Vocational School, Nizhyn Vocational Agrarian Lyceum and Chernihiv Vocational Construction Lyceum.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council, reported that the enemy shelled Nikopol region 3 times. The russians shelled the oblast’s centre, Marhanets and Chervonohryhorivka communities by artillery. They fired about a dozen shells. A religious institution, 4 private houses and a power line were damaged. During the day, the enemy launched 3 kamikaze drones at Nikopol.

The first recruiting centre of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has been opened in Dnipropetrovsk oblast. Now future servicemen can learn about current vacancies and choose a brigade on their own. After that they are sent to the territorial centre for recruitment and social support.

Vinnytsia oblast

Vinnytsia oblast became one of the 5 oblasts with the largest number of microgrants issued under the government’s Own Business program and grants for veterans to start and develop businesses. Since the beginning of 2024, 104 positive decisions have been made in the oblast, with the winners receiving UAH 25.2m.

In two weeks, the municipal recruiting centres answered more than 300 calls and provided more than 60 consultations. About 20% of the applicants are women.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Malitskyi, Head of Svitlovodsk community, announced that its residents have filed almost 50 applications about damaged residential buildings as a result of a russian drones’ attack. So far, the commission has inspected 36 homes.

Poltava oblast

Law enforcement officers of Poltava oblast sent another batch of FPV drones to the National Police of Ukraine Rapid Operational Response Unit. 

Cherkasy oblast

According to Ihor Taburets, Head of Cherkasy RMA, the military received 41 units of electronic warfare equipment from the oblast. They also sent 10 vehicles of various functions. Among them are ambulances with the necessary medical supplies. An anti-aircraft machine gun battalion received laser pointers to destroy checkpoints and 2 powerful generators for a unit formed in Cherkasy oblast. 

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, reported that the russian military struck nine towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast 319 times on 20 March. They fired 283 times at Huliaipole, Robotyne, Verbove, Preobrazhenka, Malynivka, Mala Tokmachka, Levadne, Novoandriivka and Stepnohirsk with artillery. 

Mykolaiv oblast

Vitalii Kim, Head of Mykolaiv RMA, reported that russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on downtown Mykolaiv. The missile exploded between buildings, damaging an industrial facility, injuring 6 employees and killing 1 person. The units of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine promptly extinguished fires resulting from the missile strike.

Based on the information provided by Mykolaiv RMA, on 20 March, at 12pm and 1:16pm, the russian military conducted artillery shelling on Ochakiv city. Also, at 1:40pm, the russian military deployed an FPV drone on Kutsurub community. In addition, on 21 March, at 3:53am, artillery strikes targeted the community’s territory. There were no casualties or injuries reported.

The Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine’s press service announced that farmers in Mykolaiv oblast will have access to a program aimed at assisting in demining and restoring agricultural activities on lands ranging from 3 to 300 hectares, damaged since February 2022. This assistance is facilitated with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) in cooperation with the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

Odesa oblast

The Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that on 21 March, Ukrainian Navy sailors shot down a russian reconnaissance drone over Odesa oblast.

As of 21 March, 21 ships are docked in Odesa port, 18 in Chornomorsk and 8 in Pivdennyi. There are 2 chemical tankers. Also, 1 ship is inbound to the ports, while 10 are outbound, including 3 tankers carrying metallurgical products. A queue of bulk carriers has formed near the Sulina Canal, awaiting entry to Danube ports. Currently, more than 30 ships carrying agricultural and metal products are in Izmail, Ust-Danube and Kilia.

According to Odesa City Council, the Italian Government has allocated €500,000 for the restoration of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Odesa, which was damaged by a russian missile strike in the summer of 2023. Italy announced its assistance to Odesa in October and designated the amount of funds for cathedral restoration in December 2023. However, the tranche of €500,000 was transferred to the international organisation UNESCO only now. An expert group and Head of UNESCO Desk in Ukraine, Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, will arrive in the city shortly.

Kherson oblast

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that in the evening, a 50-year-old woman, who was under attack in Veletenske, was taken to hospital. She had an explosive injury, shrapnel wound to the leg and contusion.

The russian military attacked Bilozerka. Two people were diagnosed with explosive, closed head injuries and contusions.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that the enemy shelled Sadove of Kherson community by artillery. A local sustained a concussion.

Also russians attacked Veletenske. A woman was killed.

The invaders dropped an explosive from a drone on a 46-year-old man in Beryslav. He was taken to hospital with a leg injury, bruised back and head.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Regional Military Administration, confirmed that yesterday the russian army shelled 12 settlements in Kherson oblast. Two apartment buildings, 17 private houses, an educational institution, an administrative building and a kindergarten were damaged. 4 people were injured.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

The Main Office of the State Emergency Service in Volyn oblast held a meeting with representatives of the Consultative Mission within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. During the visit, they got acquainted with the capabilities and actions of Volyn civil defence services in the event of a threat of radiation and chemical contamination.

Lutsk City Council reported that the community sent a DJI MAVIC 3 Thermal quadcopter and 2 powerful NORD batteries to the A4576 military unit of the 1st self-propelled artillery battery of the 2nd artillery division.

Zakarpattia oblast

Uzhhorod City Council held a Coordination Council on IDPs. They discussed the possibility of making changes to the city’s targeted program of support for people with orphan diseases, so that resettlers could also use it. They also discussed the issue of enrolling IDP children into the 1st grade of Uzhhorod educational institutions.

In Zakarpattia, a meeting was held with Peter Kmets, Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, and Yuliia Svyridenko, First Deputy Prime Minister –Minister of Economy of Ukraine. They discussed prospects for cooperation, strategic cross-border projects between the countries, and preparation for holding the Intergovernmental Ukrainian-Slovak Commission.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Prykarpattia sent 15 FPV drones worth over UAH 210,000 to the military thanks to employees of the Department of Sports and Youth Policy and the RMA, sports community and the regional budget.

The Association of Ukrainians of Tarragona Khortytsia (Spain) sent a Nissan Terrano SUV to the military formations of the special forces.

Lviv oblast

Drohobych region sent the truck to the Armed Forces thanks to the Drohobych RMA and the KOLO CF as part of the 50 Francomobiles for Victory initiative.

Zimnovodiv community sent 21 FPV drones to the T0920 military unit and 2 night vision devices to the 420th Separate Rifle Battalion thanks to the village council workers and entrepreneurs of the community.

At the charity fair in Drohobych, over UAH 35,000 was collected for the needs of the Armed Forces. The Military Band joined the event with patriotic compositions. Drohobych City Council reported that part of the funds will be donated to purchase an unmanned aerial vehicle for the Black Forest brigade, the other for the 67th Separate Mechanised Brigade.

Students from Boryslav raised over UAH 30,000 for the Armed Forces during a charity ball. All funds will go towards the purchase of a quadcopter.

Stepan Solovii, defender from the village of Velikiy Lyubin, was posthumously awarded the III degree For Courage Order by the President of Ukraine and the Golden Cross honorary badge by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was killed on 18 August, 2023 while performing a combat mission near the village of Ivanivske, Donetsk oblast.

Rivne oblast

IDP Councils have been established in 37 communities of Rivne oblast. In total, there are 40 IDP Councils operating in the oblast. 37 of them are in the communities with the largest number of such persons, three more were formed under RMA.

The RMA awarded the III degree For Courage orders to families of the fallen National Guardsmen. Posthumous awards were given to the parents of fallen soldiers Denys Dotsenko, Dmytro Lototskyi, Vladyslav Falikovskyi and junior sergeant Kyrylo Filonchuk.

Ternopil oblast

The RMA held a working meeting with representatives of public organisations, veterans and volunteers. They discussed current issues and problems of servicemen returning to civilian life after demobilisation, families of fallen defenders and prisoners of war. In Ternopil, they are planning to create a Veteran’s Security Service, the key task of which will be the informational, psychological and legal support of those who devoted themselves to serving the state and defended its interests in the russian-Ukrainian war.

A memorandum on coordination and mutual assistance in the implementation of rights and social guarantees provided for by the legislation of Ukraine for war veterans and family members of fallen (deceased) Defenders of Ukraine was signed between the Ministry of Veterans Affairs and Ternopil RMA, Ternopil Regional Council, village, settlement, and city councils, by implementing the Veteran Admin Service project based on the principle of a single window on the basis of administrative service centres within Ternopil oblast.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The Veteran of Khmelnytskyi chatbot became operational in Khmelnytskyi oblast. It was created so that veterans and their relatives could get the necessary information in a convenient way. Roman Uzhva, developer of the chatbot, noted that the application had been tested in test mode since the beginning of March. During this time, it was refined on the basis of suggestions from veterans and improved, highlighting a separate section For Military Servicemen with Injuries in the menu.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi received 5 Volvo buses from the city of Budapest (Hungary). They are currently undergoing technical inspection. After that, they will be registered and distributed by routes. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Denys Shmyhal, Prime Minister of Ukraine, announced that Ukraine received $1.5bn to social programs from Canada.

Kaisa Ollongren, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, stated that the country will provide €350m for ammunition for F-16  and modern reconnaissance drones for Ukraine.

Richard Marles, Minister of Defense of Australia, stated that the country will provide drones for Ukraine as part of the “drone coalition”.

Spain is preparing the transfer of 19 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine at the Santa Bárbara Sistemas plant in Alcalá de Guadaira (Seville). The delivery will be made in two batches: 10 battle tanks by the end of June and another in September.

Ukraine and Estonia have started negotiations on the conclusion of a bilateral security agreement. They started work on the draft agreement and agreed on a schedule for further negotiations.

By the end of March, the EU plans to send about 500,000 artillery shells to Ukraine, and this year they sent the promised million rounds of ammunition. Peter Stano, Spokesman for the European Commission on foreign policy issues, said that in general, Ukraine will receive more shells than previously promised in the EU.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Kaisa Ollongren, Minister of Defense of the Netherlands, who visited Dnipro and saw with her own eyes the devastating consequences of russian aerial terror. They discussed strengthening the Ukrainian air defence system, providing Ukraine with artillery, armoured vehicles and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Andrii Yermak, Head of the Office of President of Ukraine, met in Kyiv with Jake Sullivan, US President’s National Security Adviser. They discussed the continuation of the USA’s support for Ukraine in the fight against full-scale russian aggression and preparations for the 1st Global Peace Summit.
