War in Ukraine today: latest news, 20 November 2025 (photo)

It has been the 1366th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On November 20, there were 112 combat engagements.

The enemy shelled the border settlements of Novovasylivka, Bobylivka, Koreniok and Brusky in the Sumy oblast, as well as Yasna Poliana, Khrinivka and Yanzhulivka in the Chernihiv oblast with artillery.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there was one enemy attack. In addition, the enemy launched two airstrikes, dropping five guided bombs and carried out 87 shelling attacks, including one from multiple launch rocket systems. 

Towards Southern Sloboda, there were three combat engagements in the areas of Synelnykove and Vovchansk. One combat engagement is currently ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian troops repelled one enemy attack near Pishchane. 

Towards Lyman, russian troops carried out ten assaults near Novoiehorivka, Hrekivka, Shandyholove, Myrne, Kolodiazi and Novoselivka. 

Towards Sloviansk, the enemy carried out nine attacks near Serebrianka, Dronivka, Siversk, Vyiimka, Pereizne and toward Zvanivka.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy carried out three attacks near the settlements of Novomarkove, Chasiv Yar and toward Predtechyne.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the Defence Forces repelled 20 enemy attempts to break through Ukrainian defenses in the areas of Oleksandro-Shultyne, Shcherbynivka, Pleshchiivka, Kleban-Byk, Yablunivka, Rusyn Yar and toward Sofiivka. Four battles are still ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers made 43 attempts to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Volodymyrivka, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Novoekonomichne, Pokrovsk, Lysivka, Udachne, Molodetske, Novoserhiivka, Filiia, Dachne and toward Novopavlivka. The Defense Forces are holding back the pressure and have already repelled 38 attacks.

Towards Oleksandrivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled 13 enemy assaults in the areas of Zelenyi Hai, Pryvilne, Sosnivka, Stepove, Rybne and Krasnohirske. One battle is still ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, the aggressor made seven attempts to advance on Ukrainian positions in the area of Yablukove and Rivnopillia. Four battles are still ongoing.

Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian defenders repelled an enemy attack toward Stepnohirsk.

Towards Kherson, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to advance on the positions of Ukrainian units in the area of the Antonivka Road Bridge.


What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The Kyiv City State Administration has announced that the number of mobile boiler rooms in Kyiv will be increased. They can be used in the case of power outages in medical and other socially important institutions. Currently, there are 55 such boiler rooms in the capital. By the end of the year, their number is planned to increase to 70, with greater capacity per each.

Thanks to municipal co-funding programmes, more than a thousand buildings in the capital received energy-efficient status. This is approximately 8% of all buildings in the city. More than 4,500 backup power units have been purchased for them, including generators, charging stations, and solar power stations.

70% of traffic lights in Kyiv are equipped with batteries that can operate without electricity for 24 hours.

In the Darnytskyi district of the capital, the Pavlo Horyanskyi Square, which recently suffered significant damage as a result of enemy shelling, has been restored. Darnytskyi green builders, together with the community, business representatives, and entrepreneurs, planted 10 cherry trees and 10 decorative apple trees in the park.

First Deputy Mayor Andriy Kravchuk reported that 4,694 families in Irpin have already received compensation under the e-Restoration programme. The total amount of compensation reached UAH 745 million.

The Bucha community, together with the AMICUS Ukraine Foundation, donated two vehicles to the military. A Volkswagen passenger car was given to one of the units of the Ivan Bohun Military Lyceum in Kyiv, where it will be used for operational mobility and performing official duties. A Ford minibus was sent to the 114th Territorial Defence Brigade, where it will assist the military in logistics operations and combat missions.

Residents of the Vyshhorod district can visit the photo exhibition ‘Touches of Support’ from 19 November to 3 December. It is organised as part of the All-Ukrainian mental health programme ‘How are you?’. The series of photographs conveys stories of humanity and care, warm embraces and emotional connections that provide support even in the most difficult times. The photographs feature residents of Kyiv oblast, volunteers, military personnel and internally displaced persons.

Zhytomyr oblast

According to the Regional State Administration, In Zhytomyr oblast, 152 veteran grants have been approved for the development of their own businesses. This initiative provides financial support to combatants, persons with war-related disabilities, and their family members who wish to pursue entrepreneurial activities. Among the recipients there are 94 male veterans, one female veteran, and 57 wives of combatants.

Sumy oblast

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported that during the full-scale war, russian forces have killed 27 children in Sumy oblast. The youngest victim was 18 months old. More than 120 children have been injured in russian attacks.

The Regional Military Administration said that on 19 November, 61 enemy drones were destroyed over the oblast. Most were downed by interceptors and other means of engagement, while some were neutralised through electronic warfare systems. In Sumy, a 58-year-old man was injured during the downing of one of the drones and received medical assistance.

 The State Emergency Service informed that during the night of 20 November, rescuers extinguished two fires caused by russian strikes in Okhtyrka and Krolevets communities. The attacks damaged a civilian infrastructure facility and a residential area, resulting in fires.

According to the Regional Military Administration, on 19 November, a russian UAV attacked Krasnopillia community. Two civilian men, aged 47 and 49, were killed.

Between the morning of 19 November and the morning of 20 November, russian forces carried out more than 80 attacks on 37 settlements across 19 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 20 strikes), UAVs (over 20 strikes), and also launched FPV drone attacks across the oblast. Over the course of the day, air raid alerts lasted a total of 19 hours and 48 minutes.

Consequences of russian attacks in the oblast as of the morning of 20 November:

  • in Sumy community, a 58-year-old man was injured in a UAV attack. Civilian infrastructure facilities, a private residential house and non-residential premises were damaged;
  • in Mykolaivka settlement community, a civilian infrastructure facility, a private residential house, a non-residential building and a vehicle were damaged;
  • in Bilopillia community, private residential houses and an outbuilding were damaged;
  • in Verkhniosyrovatka community, a private car was destroyed;
  • in Okhtyrka community, a non-residential building was damaged;
  • in Znob-Novhorodske community, private residential houses and non-residential buildings were damaged;
  • in Esman community, a private residential house and outbuildings were destroyed;
  • in Shalyhyne community, a private residential house was destroyed and outbuildings were damaged;
  • in Seredyna-Buda community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged.

The Regional Prosecutor’s Office stated that in Velyka Pysarivka community of Okhtyrka region, the body of a 53-year-old local resident was found. Preliminary reports indicate the man was killed on 17 November 2025 in a russian attack.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that on 20 November, the russian army attacked Semenivka by two strike UAVs. Preliminary information indicates no casualties.

The Regional State Administration reported that on 20 November, russian forces attacked Chernihiv. Drone debris was recorded falling in Chernihiv region.

The Department of Culture of the Regional Military Administration informed that around midnight on 19 November, Lysyhubs’ Estate in the town of Sedniv was damaged in a russian attack. The blast wave shattered 11 windows and damaged an outbuilding.

According to Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that during 19 November, russian forces shelled Novhorod-Siverskyi, Koriukivka and Chernihiv regions. The enemy most frequently used FPV drones and strike UAVs, as well as mortars and artillery.

In Novhorod-Siverskyi region, a russian Lancet drone struck the transport facilities of a mining enterprise on 19 November.

In Semenivka, a Molniia UAV attacked an administrative building. An FPV drone strike ignited a passenger car and damaged a residence.

Several settlements in Koriukivka region came under russian attack. In one of them, FPV drone strikes damaged a house, a car and a motorcycle. In two other villages, civilian cars were targeted.

In Chernihiv region, the enemy struck an energy facility by a UAV.

According to Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment, on 19 November, russian forces attacked five border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Koriukivka, Snovsk and Horodnia. The enemy carried out mortar attacks (10 explosions), launched “Molniia” UAVs (7 explosions), “Shahed” UAVs (7 explosions), conducted FPV drone strikes (29 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (5 explosions). The town of Semenivka and 15 villages came under fire.

The State Emergency Service of Chernihiv oblast reported that in an open area of Nizhyn region, part of a russian Iskander missile was found. State Emergency Service explosives technicians removed the munition and transported it to a designated site.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the RMA, reported that air-defence forces operating in the oblast destroyed 24 russian UAVs.

Pavlohrad region: 3 men were injured as a result of a massive UAV strike. Infrastructure was damaged.

Nikopol region: until late evening and in the morning, russian forces continued striking the region by UAVs, MLRS and artillery. They targeted the regional centre, Myrove, Marhanets, Pokrovske and Chervonohryhorivka communities. Updated information confirms that 1 more private house in Nikopol was damaged by yesterday’s attacks.

Synelnykove region: as a result of KAB strikes on Mezhova community, an administrative building and a power transmission line were damaged. In Vasylkivka community, a UAV attack caused a fire at a farm, resulting in the death of livestock.

In Dnipro, a UAV strike damaged high-rise buildings.

Synelnykove region: an 85-year-old woman was killed following an KAB strike on Pokrovske community. A fire broke out, burning a vehicle. 10 private houses, a shop, a gas pipeline and a power transmission line were damaged. Updated information confirms that infrastructure in Vasylkivka community was damaged by the nighttime strike.

Pavlohrad region: a 33-year-old man was injured in a UAV attack. Infrastructure damage was reported.

Nikopol region: russian forces continued attacking the region by UAVs and artillery, targeting the regional centre, Myrove and Marhanets communities. 2 private houses were damaged.

Poltava oblast

It became known that serviceman Serhii Yaryi from Khorol, Poltava oblast, was killed. He went missing on the third day of his service during the repulsion of a russian assault. His death was confirmed through DNA examination. He was 33 years old.

Cherkasy oblast

Viktoriia Shpylova, a drone operator from Zvenyhorodka, was killed near Sloviansk. She was 32 years old.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 19 November, the Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 27 russian attacks in Orikhiv, Huliaipole and Oleksandrivka region.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia RMA, stated that on 19 November, russian forces carried out 562 strikes on 16 towns and villages of Zaporizhzhia oblast. In particular, russian artillery fired 240 times on the territories of Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Mala Tokmachka, Novodanylivka, Novoandriivka, Zelenyi Hai, Nove, Rivnopillia, Charivne and Bilohiria.

Mykolaiv oblast

Referring to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on 19 November, russian forces carried out 5 FPV-drone attacks on Kutsurub community. The community was targeted twice by artillery. As a result of one of the strikes in Dmytrivka village, a power line was damaged. There were no casualties reported.

Kherson oblast

Based on the information provided by Kherson RMA, around 1pm, russian forces shelled Molodizhne. A 58-year-old woman was injured. She sustained a blast injury, a closed traumatic brain injury, concussion and shrapnel wounds to the head and torso. She was hospitalised. At the time of the attack, she was walking down the street.

Yesterday, russian forces shelled Bilozirka in Kherson oblast. 3 people were wounded. They were hospitalised with blast injuries and concussions.

Yaroslav Shanko, Head of the CMA, said that in the morning, russian forces shelled Korabelnyi district of Kherson. A 17-year-old girl was injured. She sustained a mine-blast injury, concussion and an acute stress reaction.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson RMA, reported that on 19 November, as a result of russian attacks on Kherson oblast, 2 people were injured. A multi-storey building, 3 private houses, a gas pipeline and vehicles were damaged. The russian forces attacked 31 settlements in the oblast. 

The City Military Administration reported that as a result of the nighttime shelling of Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, an 85-year-old man was wounded. He suffered a mine-blast injury, a closed traumatic brain injury and concussion.

Yaroslav Shanko, Head of Kherson CMA, informed that following yesterday’s drone attack in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson, a man was killed. His identity is being established.

The Regional Military Administration reported that as a result of yesterday’s shelling of Komyshany near Kherson, a 47-year-old woman was injured. She sustained a concussion, a blast injury and a closed traumatic brain injury. She was at home at the moment of the strike.

Yesterday afternoon, russian forces attacked a resident of Bilozirka in Kherson oblast by a drone. A 42-year-old man received a blast injury and concussion. He was hospitalised.

Volyn oblast

Kolkiv Village Council reported that the III degree For Courage Order (posthumously) was awarded to Stepan Vasiukhnyk.

Zakarpattia oblast

Zakarpattia oblast is strengthening its partnership with Dutch friends. The RMA signed a trilateral memorandum of cooperation with the organization SOFT Tulip and the Psychological Health Service North-Holland-North for 2026–2031.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Lviv oblast

Lviv RMA held a meeting with the families of servicemen of the 141st Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who are in captivity or are considered missing. Families received clarifications regarding current search mechanisms, statuses, procedures for confirming captivity, opportunities for identifying bodies and interaction with investigative authorities.

A delegation from Lviv oblast paid a working visit to the Madrid Autonomous Community to strengthen partnership in the field of medicine, training, and the implementation of advanced medical practices. During the visit, the Ukrainian side got acquainted with the work of leading medical institutions in Spain.

The RMA reported that the President of Ukraine awarded the Defender of the Fatherland from Yavoriv region with the III degree Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi.

Rivne oblast

IAEA reported that Rivne Nuclear Power Plant has reduced its electricity production due to russian attacks. It lost its connection to high-voltage lines after massive shelling on 19 November.

Ternopil oblast

The russian strike on 19 November killed 26 people, including 3 children. 12 adults and 2 children remain in intensive care. Search and rescue operations are continuing, with difficult areas being worked on manually to avoid landslides and preserve the chance of finding survivors. 6 people reported missing in Ternopil have made contact. 14 more residents are being sought.

Over 230 rescuers from 9 oblasts and 50 pieces of equipment were involved in the work. During this time, over 880 sqm of destroyed structures were cleared and 370 tons of construction debris were removed.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

IAEA reported that Khmelnytskyi NPP has reduced electricity production due to russian attacks. It lost connection to high-voltage lines after massive shelling on 19 November.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi City Council reported that the city said goodbye to Serhii Bozhik, soldier of the Military Unit A0284, who was killed while performing a combat mission.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, has received a draft plan for the settlement of the war in Ukraine, developed by the US . The Ukrainian President expects to discuss the main points needed for peace with Donald Trump, US President, in the coming days.

Sikorski, Polish Foreign Minister announced that Poland will allocate $100m ] for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine under the PURL program.
