War in Ukraine today: latest news, 20 May, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 817 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 8pm:   

Thr invaders continue active offensive and assault operations towards Kupiansk, Kurakhove, Kramatorsk and Pokrovsk. Enemy aircraft are also operating at high intensity in the latter two areas – in total, the invaders have dropped 15 unmanned aerial vehicles and used about three dozen unguided aerial missiles.

The number of combat engagements towards Kharkiv increased to four today. The enemy attacked twice near Vovchansk and once in the vicinity of Starytsia and Lyptsi villages. The situation is under control.

Since 10 May and as of today, the invaders have already lost 1,974 men and 342 pieces of weapons and military equipment towards Kharkiv.

Three firefights are currently taking place towards Kupiansk, in the areas of Stelmakhivka and Synkivka. In total, the enemy has tried to break through our defences 11 times this day.

The situation remained unchanged towards Siversk.

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy became more active near Chasiv Yar in the afternoon, launching three attacks. There is also a battle near Andriivka. The situation is under control. The invaders launched another airstrike, this time at Druzhba.

The enemy continues to concentrate its efforts towards Pokrovsk, having already made 32 attempts to advance. 24 attacks were repelled, eight are ongoing. The invaders launched 5 more airstrikes near Novooleksandrivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Umanske, Karlivka and Yelyzavetivka. Our soldiers are responding fiercely to the enemy. Today, as a result of the actions of Ukrainian troops, the invaders have already lost 366 people in this area. Moreover, 22 units of enemy military equipment, including six tanks, were damaged and destroyed.

Towards Kurakove, 11 hostile attacks, three of which are ongoing. The situation is under control.

There are no major changes in other areas.

Thanks to the flexibility of our defence system, Ukrainian soldiers are confidently holding their positions. The units of the Defence Forces keep the enemy’s actions under fire control, perform manoeuvres, and, under favourable conditions, carry out assault operations to dislodge enemy troops from the occupied lines.

Dmytro Lubinets, Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, reported that according to official data, there are almost 1700 civilians in places of detention in the russian federation, of which almost 900 have been confirmed by the International Committee of the Red Cross. However, about 14,000 civilians are officially registered as missing. 

Dmytro Lazutkin, Spokesman of the Ministry of Defence, informed that over the two days of Reserve+ operation, 260,000 Ukrainians have updated their data. This is a service that was launched on 18 May, in which about 260,000 Ukrainians have clarified their data and actually updated it. More than 80 times as many people updated their credentials through ASCs and territorial centres, while there is no final data on the latter, as “the process is ongoing”. 

Also russia accused Ukraine of abducting 1,600 children in the territories occupied by russia. Inna Sviatenko, Deputy Chairman of the russian federation Council said that on the eve of the large-scale russian invasion, children from boarding schools in Donbas, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts were taken abroad. At the same time, russian children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova is a suspect in the International Criminal Court’s investigation into the mass abduction of Ukrainian children by russians. And the leader of the Just russia – For Truth party, Sergei Mironov, together with his wife, took a 10-month-old girl from Kherson oblast, adopted her and changed her name. The fate of the Ukrainian child abducted by the couple is currently unknown.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, towards Kharkiv, fighting continues near Starytsia and Vovchansk. The invaders used aviation 5 more times: twice launching attacks from helicopter gunships near Hraniv and dropped unmanned aerial vehicles in Zhovtneve and Lyptsi. Since the beginning of the day, the total number of airstrikes has reached 6.

Towards Kupiansk, the invaders continue their attempts to advance in Synkivka, Berestove and Ivanivka. The situation is under control. Three attacks by russian invaders have already been repelled near Novoiehorivka and Synkivka.

Oles Maliarevych, Deputy Commander of the Achilles UAV battalion of the 92nd Separate Mechanised Brigade, reported that the Kantemir Tank Division of the russian Armed Forces, which was deprived of combat capability twice during the great war, is part of the russian grouping near the northern border of Kharkiv oblast. According to him, air defence systems, radars, S-300 and S-400 launchers, and howitzer batteries are deployed along the border of Kharkiv oblast on the territory of the russian federation.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, informed that the situation towards Vovchansk is that the front line in the north of the oblast is stabilised. Fighting continues in Vovchansk, with confrontation going on for almost every street. Thanks to the effective actions of the Defence Forces, the enemy’s plan to quickly capture the north of Kharkiv oblast failed.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the RMA, said that the State Emergency Service diving team found fragments of a man’s body in Cherkaska Lozova. According to Dmytro Chubenko, Spokesman of the regional Prosecutor’s Office, one man remained missing as of the morning of 20 May, so it was his fragments. Of the 28 people injured in Cherkaska Lozova during russian strikes on 19 May, 15 remain in hospital. Ruslan Vrahov, Head of the medical institution,. confirmed that three men and one woman, who were injured, during rocket attacks on Cherkaska Lozova on 19 May remain in intensive care in extremely critical condition, they are on artificial lung ventilation. According to him, four more people, who remain in critical condition, have been operated on and transferred to wards. After the strike, the hospital operated 8 operating rooms simultaneously and managed to gather 8 teams to help the injured. Some of the most critically injured patients are scheduled to undergo repeat operations.

Referring to the press service 9f Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a 63-year-old man was killed as a result of a Russian strike on Vovchansk at around 3:30am. Three other men were injured in the city as a result of russian shelling.

The Prosecutor’s Office added that a 57-year-old man was injured as a result of shelling of Lyptsi at around 4am on 20 May. The injured man was hospitalised.

Deputy Head Volodymyr Matsokin said that at night, russian troops attacked Izium, destroying the architectural monument – the Zaliznychnik Palace of Culture. According to him, the building is more than 100 years old and was planned to be reconstructed before the invasion.

Yesterday at 3:23pm, the territory of the Central Park of Culture and Recreation in Kharkiv was hit. The shelling damaged a cinema building, a fence, a restaurant building, and a car. 2 women were injured.

At 3:18, the territory of the city cemetery № 2 in Kharkiv. The shelling damaged the windows of the petrol station. There were no casualties.

At 7:45pm, 6 private houses were damaged as a result of hostile artillery shelling of Ivashky village, Bohodukhiv region.

At 4pm, a man was injured as a result of shelling in Vovchansk.

At 11:20am, 2 people were killed and 5 people injured as a result of shelling of Novoosynove village, Kupiansk region, by MRLs.

At 11am, 3 people were killed and 4 people injured as a result of the shelling of Kivsharivka village, Kupiansk region.

Yesterday at 11:10am, as a result of the shelling of Cherkaska Lozova of Derhachi community, Kharkiv region, by Iskander-M.  28 people were injured, including 2 ambulance workers, and 6 people killed.

On 19 May at 3:30am, a 63-year-old man was killed as a result of a russian shelling of Vovchansk.

Towards Kharkiv, there were 11 combat engagements since the beginning of the day. The invaders launched airstrikes and kept trying to break through our defences near Vovchansk, Starytsia, Lyptsi and Zelene. In response, Ukrainian troops inflicted significant losses on the invaders, the details of which are being established.

Towards Kupiansk, the number of combat engagements totalled 12 over the day. Ukrainian defence forces successfully repelled enemy attacks near Synkivka, Ivanivka and Berestove.

A total of 10,573 people were evacuated from Chuhuiv, Kharkiv and Bohodukhiv regions.

Donetsk oblast

According to the morning report of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Defence Forces eliminated about 400 russian troops towards Pokrovsk yesterday and since the beginning of this day.

Victoriia Bakhal, Spokeswoman of the regional State Emergency Service, informed that no additional Invincibility Centres were deployed due to stabilisation power outages in Donetsk oblast. According to the RMA, there are 186 centres in the oblast.

Anastasiia Miedviedieva, Spokeswoman of Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, said that russian troops attacked Elyzavetivka village. One man was injured.

The operational situation in the oblast as of the morning of 20 May is as follows:

Towards Pokrovsk, a person was injured in Katerynivka of Marinka community. Kurakhove and Berestky of Kurakove community were shelled. In Pokrovsk community, 2 private houses were damaged: in Pokrovsk and Ukrainsk.

Towards Kramatorsk, in Lyman community, 2 houses were damaged in Zarichne and 1 in Yampil. A house in Kostiantynivka and 2 more in Viroliubivka were damaged. 2 objects were damaged in Stara Mykolaivka of Illinivka community.

Towards Bakhmut, 2 people were injured and 26 houses were damaged in Pivnichne of Toretsk community. 9 private houses were damaged in Chasiv Yar community. Another house was damaged in Serebrianka of Siversk community.

In total, russians attacked settlements in Donetsk oblast 15 times over the day. 276 people, including 23 children, were evacuated from the frontline.

Vadym Filashkin, Head of Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday russians injured 3 civilians: 2 in Pivnichne and 1 in Katerynivka. 

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, hostile attacks on Nevske and surrounding villages have become more regular. Almost every day there is destruction of residential buildings. Yesterday two more houses and other buildings were attacked. There were hits in Makiivka. The enemy also targeted Stelmakhivka, Kuzemivka and Novoliubivka.

On the frontline, russians concentrated their attack efforts near Stelmakhivka towards Kupiansk and near Bilohorivka towards Siversk.

In turn, Ukrainian troops kept the enemy under fire control and succeeded in some areas towards Lyman. The invaders launched airstrikes on Serebrianka forest.

Towards Siversk, the enemy made 23 attempts to break into our defences. The invaders tried to break through Bilohorivka, attacking 17 times. They were unsuccessful and suffered significant losses, namely: 53 people eliminated and injured, 14 pieces of weapons and military equipment, including two tanks, 11 armoured combat vehicles and another electronic warfare vehicle.

Artem Lysohor, Head of Luhansk RMA, reported that a new subject “Moral foundations of family life” was introduced in educational institutions in the temporarily occupied territories, during which children are taught about the so-called “russian values”.

The National Resistance Centre informed that russians have organised a travelling exhibition in the temporarily occupied cities of Luhansk oblast, promoting russian narratives such as “Ukraine is bombing Donbas”.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

As reported by the RMA, 69 ASCs in Kyiv oblast are already providing the data updating service to persons liable for military service to ensure a quality data updating process. Administrators of the ASCs have undergone special online training on how to work with the service or received a video instruction with detailed explanations. Persons liable for military service can also update their data through the mobile application of the Ministry of Defence ‘Reserve+’, in the TCC and JV.

Kyiv oblast is developing cooperation with the Belgian state development agency “Enabel”. According to the RMA, the aim is to help Kyiv oblast in recovery, security and development, including support for the healthcare sector. Interaction with foreign partners takes place within the framework of the Regional Office for International Cooperation.

On 19 May, the Ukrainian Women’s Guard organisation held a tactical medicine training for women in Kyiv. The event was aimed at teaching them how to provide first aid in war and extreme situations. During the training, the participants attended a theoretical course and learned how to provide first aid in war conditions using the M.A.R.C.H. algorithm.

The first SAF recruitment centre was opened in Kyiv. The centre provides consultations on training, support and conditions of service in the AFU Special Operations Forces and helps to choose a military speciality. In addition, the recruitment centre provides legal support during the enlistment process.

The Mobile Rescue Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that explosive devices were recently discovered in two districts of Kyiv oblast. On the outskirts of Zalissia village, Brovary region, an F-1 grenade was found attached to a tripwire and fixed to a tree. And near the village of Pidhaine in Vyshhorod region, residents found a Grad multiple rocket launcher shell in the forest. The explosives were defused by sappers.

On Sunday, a rally in support of prisoners of war was held on Kontraktova Square in Kyiv. Such demonstrations have already become a tradition. Every weekend, relatives and friends traditionally gather at different locations in the capital to call for the speedy release of the defenders who have been held captive for over 2 years. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Veterans participating in the annual cycle ride “Honouring the memory of Ukraine’s defenders” were welcomed in Zhytomyr. The veterans’ bike ride started on 15 May in Uzhhorod; the participants plan to cycle over a thousand kilometres in 9 days. As part of the bike ride, the Ukrainian Veterans Fund has announced a fundraiser to support NGOs that create projects to reintegrate defenders through physical activity.

Sumy oblast

 At night and in the morning, russians shelled the border areas and settlements of Sumy oblast 11 times with a total of 49 explosions recorded. Mykolaivka, Khotin, Bilopillia, Nova Sloboda, Esman, Shalyhyne, Seredyna-Buda were under attack.

Yesterday the russian military attacked Sumy oblast 43 times with a total of 236 explosions recorded, including attacks from mortars, artilleryVelyka Pysarivka, Nova Sloboda, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhyne, Druzhbivk, FPV drones, grenade attacks from AGS, and the dropping of explosive ordnance from UAVs. The Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Myropillia, Seredyna-Buda and Svesa communities were shelled.

Sumy RMA reported that a local was wounded as a result of shelling of Khotyn community. The enemy shelled its territory with mortars, with 25 attacks recorded.

Sumy police informed that seven more citizens with pets were evacuated from the border town of Vorozhba. Law enforcement officers helped the citizens to carry their belongings, get to the place of departure, ensure public safety and order, and accompanied the bus to the regional centre.

Families with vulnerable children evacuating from the frontline areas of Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts will receive additional financial assistance of UAH 10,800 per person. The emergency additional financial assistance was introduced by the Government together with UNICEF to ease the financial burden on such families.

The regional State Emergency Service reported that over the past week, bomb squads destroyed 88 pieces of ammunition found in Sumy, Okhtyrka, Konotop, Shostka and Romny districts. Since the beginning of the year, 457 explosive devices have been found in Sumy oblast.

The RMA announced that Sumy oblast received aid from Denmark – the humanitarian cargo came from the Ukrainian-Danish volunteer union “Bevar Ukraine”. The aid includes heaters, firefighting equipment for the State Emergency Service, as well as medical equipment and materials that will soon be delivered to healthcare and social protection institutions in the oblast.

Chernihiv oblast

Over the past 24 hours, russian troops shelled 4 border villages in Chernihiv oblast. According to the State Border Guard Service, a total of 51 explosions were recorded: Novhorod-Siverskyi community – 36 mortar attacks, Semenivka – 15.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of the RMA, reported that the enemy shelled 26 localities in Chernihiv oblast 72 times last week. During this period, 412 explosions were recorded, including 16 air strikes. Five civilians in Chernihiv oblast were wounded and one person killed. About two dozen civilian infrastructure buildings and critical infrastructure facilities were damaged. 

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

In the evening and in the morning, the enemy attacked Nikopol region 7 times. They launched kamikaze drones and fired from artillery. They targeted Nikopol, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities. In the last attack, 2 private houses and an outbuilding were damaged. There were no casualties.

The occupiers were firing on Nikopol all day long. There were a total of three dozen attacks, including kamikaze drones, dropping ammunition from drones and artillery fire. A 42-year-old man was injured in Nikopol as a result of the shelling. He was hospitalized in the surgical department with a shrapnel wound. 

Pokrovsk and Myrove communities were also affected by the enemy attack. A fire broke out in the area, damaging an apartment building, 18 private homes, a medical facility, several cars, 5 outbuildings, a garage, an infrastructure facility, an unused building, about two dozen solar panels, gas pipelines and power lines. The morning attacks on the Marhanets community damaged a shop, 10 private houses, 3 outbuildings, gas pipelines and power lines.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​Vinnytsia Mayor Serhii Morhunov reported that the 3rd separate assault brigade received the necessary equipment from Vinnytsia residents. 240 FPV drones, 10 Mavic 3T night drones, 5 charging stations, 30 thousand dry showers. 

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, reported that an explosion occurred in Kropyvnytskyi region. There were no casualties or damage. 

Poltava oblast

Filip Pronin, Head of RMA, reported that an explosion occurred in Myrhorod region. According to preliminary information, there were no hits to civilian or critical infrastructure. 

Volunteers of To You from Me charity fund handed over six searchlights to the military of the mobile firing group. They hit with a direct beam for a kilometer and a half. This equipment is used to detect drones launched by russia.

Cherkasy oblast

In Cherkasy, on 20 May, 30 residents of Cherkasy applied to the administrative services center to update their data. Starting 18 May, Ukrainians liable for military service aged 18 to 60 have 60 days to update their personal data, including at the offices of the Center for Administrative Services.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Today, 20 May, russian military forces once again shelled the village of Stepnohirsk. One person was killed as the result of the attack.

Yesterday, the occupiers carried out 378 attacks on 8 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy launched 2 airstrikes on Novoandriivka. 170 UAVs attacked Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka, and Novoandriivka. 19 MLRS attacks hit Huliaipole, Robotyne, Malynivka, and Levadne. 187 artillery strikes targeted the areas of Huliaipole, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Verbove, Levadne, Malynivka, and Stepnohirsk. There were 4 reports of residential destruction. One man was injured during an enemy attack in Polohy region.

two fires broke out in Polohy region as a result of enemy shelling on 19 May. While extinguishing a fire in the village of Novoandriivka, rescuers came under a repeated russian attack. As a result, one rescuer sustained minor shrapnel injuries.

Mykolaiv oblast

On the night of 20 May, air defense forces destroyed 16 Shahed 131/136 UAVs  in Mykolaiv oblast. Debris from the downed enemy UAV damaged the roof and ceiling of a private household. A fire also broke out, during which a woman sustained burns while extinguishing it.

Yesterday, 19 May, the enemy shelled Ochakiv community twice with artillery. Additionally, the occupiers attacked Kutsurub community using an FPV kamikaze drone.

Odesa oblast

On the night of 20 May, 2024, the air defense forces of the Southern Ukraine destroyed 17 enemy Shahed-136/131 strike UAVs. Of these, 1 drone was destroyed in Odesa oblast. Additionally, yesterday 2 Orlan-10 reconnaissance drones were shot down, and the enemy launched a strike with a ballistic missile (presumably an Iskander-M).

Deputies of Odesa City Council will gather for an extraordinary session on 22 May. They plan to allocate funds to brigades fighting in Kharkiv oblast.

Kherson oblast

Today, russia attacked Dniprovskyi district in Kherson city. Currently, it is known that one person was killed and one was injured.

Yesterday, the enemy attacked Novokairy, Novovorontsovka, Novoraisk, Beryslav, Zolota Balka, Shliakhove, Novooleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Mykhailivka, Mykilske, Tiahynka, Antonivka, Stanislav, Sadove, Zymivnyk, Kachkarivka, Chervonyi Maiak, Vesele, and the city of Kherson. 35 objects were damaged due to the shelling: an apartment building and 25 private houses, an administrative building of an agricultural enterprise, two buildings of utility enterprises, three cars, two garages, and an outbuilding. 8 people were injured due to russian aggression.

It is reported that the enemy carried out six assaults on the left bank of the Dnipro in the temporarily occupied Kherson oblast. After suffering losses, they retreated to their initial positions.

The Southern Defense Forces continue to inflict fire damage on the enemy’s locations, firing positions, and rear areas. Yesterday, confirmed enemy losses amounted to 108 personnel and 39 units of weapons and military equipment. Three field supply buildups, a UAV control station, two observation points, and two mobile command posts were destroyed.

A mobile medical team conducted appointments in the villages of Velyka Oleksandrivka, Inhulivka, and Novoraisk last week. Nearly 90 residents received medical consultations and registered in the electronic health care system. More than 35 children from the settlements received professional assistance from a neurologist. The main complaints were anxiety, sleep disturbances, and mood disorders.

Free social routes are in operation in 11 settlements of Kherson oblast. 1,650 people used social transportation from January 29 to May 15, 2024. Transport assistance is provided within the PEACE project, which is implemented with the support of Aktion Deutschland Hilft and the German representation of ADRA Deutschland e.V.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

During the weekend, the RMA, the Swedish Aid Center CF and the Investor construction company raised generators, windows and building materials, clothes and basic necessities for affected Kharkiv oblast. Representatives of the Carriers of the Western Region public organisation delivered 3 trucks from Volyn oblast to Kharkiv oblast.

Zakarpattia oblast

Zakarpattia continues to treat and rehabilitate heroes who were wounded in battles, defending the independence of Ukraine. Traditionally, during rehabilitation, defenders attend matches of the Ukrainian Premier League, where they always start the game with a symbolic pass. This is an example of respect and boundless gratitude to local heroes. The match of the 29th round of UPL Minai – Kolos was opened by Mykhailo Stytsiuk, Commander of the Grenade Launcher Platoon of the 93rd Separate Mechanised Brigade Kholodnyi Yar. The hero took part in battles in Soledar, Bakhmut, near Klishchiivka and Andriivka. It was near Klishchiivka that he was wounded and lost his leg during mortar shelling in November of last year.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

113 soldiers of Ivano-Frankivsk community, who were wounded at the front, will receive assistance in the amount of UAH 5.57m from the city budget. Since the beginning of the year, such payment has been allocated to 235 wounded soldiers in the amount of UAH 11.73m.

The RMA reported that Petro Sandalovich, defender from Rohatyn region, who serves in the 14th Separate Mechanised Brigade, was awarded the 3rd degree For Courage Order.

Lviv oblast

During the night alarms, three enemy drones of the Shaheed type flew into Lviv oblast. They were destroyed by the forces and means of air defence of the oblast. In total, this time, 29 out of 29 attack drones launched by the occupier were shot down over Ukraine.

As a result of the fall of the fragments of a downed enemy drone, a fire started in the forestry in Zolochiv region. The burning area covered almost 1 hectare of forest. The fire was extinguished. According to preliminary information, there are no victims or injured. The fire was extinguished by firefighters and forestry workers. A total of 25 people. Three units of special equipment and a tank were involved.

In the village of Vovchatichi, where the defender Ruslan Hoi was born and lived, a memorial plaque to the fallen soldier was installed. The board was fixed on the facade of the local school where he studied. The hero was a gunner of a reconnaissance platoon. Since May 2023, Ruslan was considered missing. In February 2024, the death of a serviceman was confirmed. He was killed while performing a combat mission near the village of Bakhmut in Donetsk oblast.

Rivne oblast

Residents of Rivne oblast are helping to rebuild housing damaged by the enemy in the village of Arkhanhelsk, Beryslav region. 55 people went to Kherson oblast. Volunteers delivered 4 trucks of lumber to the partially destroyed village and are restoring roofs of houses damaged by shelling. In March 2022, Arkhanhelsk was occupied by russian troops, and on 3 October of the same year, the Armed Forces of Ukraine liberated the settlement.

Ternopil oblast

Over 500 participants took part in the charity sports event Mitts. Nature. Victory in Ternopil. This event is part of the League of races called RUN 4 VICTORY, and Ternopil became the 1st city of the 4 planned. During the race, participants donated UAH 260,000. Taking into account the fact that the organisers doubled the collected amount, in general they donated UAH 520,000 for the needs of the Armed Forces. With the raised funds, electronic warfare equipment was purchased and sent to the 83rd Separate Territorial Defense Battalion.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that the community sent 240 FPV drones worth almost UAH 3m to the military. Since the beginning of 2024, the community has already sent 2,600 FPV drones, purchased with budget funds, and 230 expensive quadcopters with a thermal imager to the army. They also bought REB and PEP tools.

Chernivtsi oblast

Chernivtsi received humanitarian aid, included, hospital beds, household appliances, furniture, laptops, school supplies, from the sister city of Dusseldorf. This assistance will be provided to children of fallen defenders, lyceum, family-type homes, the Center for Social Services, a shelter for disabled IDPs and Veteran Hub.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The 22nd meeting of participants of the Rammstein format was held online. The meeting began with a speech by Lloyd Austin, US Defense Minister.

The Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom reported that the country sent 80 air defence missiles, 1m rounds of ammunition and 20 BvS 10 Viking amphibious armoured all-terrain vehicles to Ukraine.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, had a phone conversation with Andrii Plenkovich, Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia. They discussed Croatia’s support for the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU and the possibility of joining the G7 Vilnius Declaration on Ukraine’s support.

Jean-Louis Bourlange, Head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the National Assembly of France, stated that the parliament called for the lifting of the taboo on Ukraine striking the russian federation with French weapons.

Baiba Braje, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, took part in the Riga Marathon. Thanks to this, she raised almost €10,000 for drones for Ukrainian fighters.

After over 2 years of full-scale war, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, together with the European Commission, WHO and other partners, continue to organise evacuation flights for injured Ukrainians for treatment abroad. In total, thanks to cooperation, 4,799 Ukrainians have already been evacuated, including patients with mine-explosive injuries, those who need prosthetics, and cancer patients. Also among the evacuees are children with injuries and oncological diseases. Over 30 countries have accepted Ukrainians for treatment, including Germany, Norway, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, etc.
