It has been the 1212 th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

As of now, the total number of combat engagements stands at 88.
Today, as a result of enemy artillery and mortar shelling, the communities of Prohres, Tymofiivka, Rivne, Myropilske, and Prokhody in the Sumy region, as well as Khrinivka in the Chernihiv region, came under fire. Krasnyi Khutir in Chernihiv region was hit by an airstrike using guided aerial bombs (KABs).

In the Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk directions, nine combat clashes have taken place since the beginning of the day. In addition, the enemy launched five airstrikes, dropping five guided aerial bombs, and carried out 40 attacks on the positions of our troops and settlements, including one from a multiple launch rocket system.

In the Southern Slobozhanskyi direction, enemy units launched nine assaults on our positions near Vovchansk and Zelenyi. Four combat engagements are still ongoing.

In the Lyman direction, the invaders carried out 18 attacks throughout the day on Ukrainian positions near Novyi Myr, Hlushchenkove, Hrekivka, Nadiya, Ridkodub, Karpivka, and Zelena Dolyna. Five clashes are still ongoing.

Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack in the Siverskyi direction near Ivano-Darivka.

In the Kramatorsk direction, two combat engagements took place since the beginning of the day near Chasiv Yar and towards Stupochky.

In the Toretsk direction, the enemy tried to break through our defenses near Petrivka, Oleksandro-Kalynove, Yablunivka, Rusyn Yar, and toward Diliivka, Bila Hora, and Predtechyne. The Defense Forces have repelled ten enemy assaults so far; five more clashes are still underway.

In the Pokrovsk direction, Russian invaders made 28 attempts since the start of the day to dislodge Ukrainian defenders from their positions in the areas of Poltavka, Myrne, Myroliubivka, Koptyeve, Promin, Lysivka, Novosergiivka, and Orikhove. The Defense Forces are holding back the enemy pressure—fighting continues.

In the Novopavlivka direction, Ukrainian defenders repelled three enemy assaults.
The enemy is attempting to advance in the areas of Zaporizhzhia, Perebudova, Novosilka, and Shevchenko. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.

In the Orikhiv direction, the occupiers launched airstrikes on Novoandriivka and Kamianske.

As of now, no combat engagements have been recorded in the Kupiansk, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Prydniprovske directions.

Another group of seriously ill prisoners of war has been returned home. This was reported by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Most of them had been in captivity since 2022.

The return of the bodies of fallen Ukrainian servicemen will continue in a new format, which will not be tied to delegation negotiations in Istanbul. This was reported by Andriy Yusov, representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (HUR).

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The search and rescue operation in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv lasted over 39 hours. On 18 June at 7:20 p.m., rescuers completed their search efforts. The rubble is still being removed.

The Office of the Prosecutor General reported that the bodies of 23 victims were recovered from the rubble of the destroyed building in the Solomyanskyi district. In total, 28 people were killed and more than 140 were injured in the capital as a result of russian shelling on 17 June. The oldest victim in Kyiv was 91 years old, and the youngest was a 22-year-old man.

Rescuers saved two people from under the rubble and deblocked about 50 more from apartments and entrances. More than 400 rescuers from the State Emergency Service and over 200 pieces of equipment were involved in dealing with the aftermath of the russian attack. Specialised emergency rescue and engineering equipment was used, as well as drones and search dogs. Groups of psychologists worked at the site, providing emergency psychological assistance to more than 220 people.

In the Solomyanskyi district, one of the buildings damaged by enemy attacks on 17 June suffered structural damage. In a five-storey building, a staircase between the upper floors collapsed when residents and volunteers entered to collect essential items. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration. There were no casualties. Rescuers evacuated five people. Emergency crews are working at the site.

The animal welfare organisation Kyiv Animal Rescue Group, whose representatives worked at the site of the strike announced that nine cats were rescued from under the rubble of a nine-story residential building. The building was hit by a rocket during a massive russian attack on the night of 17 June, destroying an entire stairwell. Assistance was also provided to two baby swifts whose nest was destroyed by the explosion. Currently, the owners of almost all rescued cats have been identified.

The Kyiv City Military Administration reported that the aftermath of the russian strike is still being cleared up in the Solomyanskyi district. Four thousand m³ of construction debris has been removed from the area. To cover the damaged windows, 9,000 square metres of OSB, 1,000 square metres of plywood, and 3,000 square metres of polyethylene film were received. Currently, 950 windows have been covered, but the total number is much higher. Volunteers, law enforcement officers, psychologists, and representatives of the Red Cross are involved in the work of the headquarters. The headquarters deployed in the area have welcomed more than 1,000 people. Charities and volunteers distributed 500 hygiene kits and 250 hot meals.

In the Darnytskyi district, the aftermath of the russian attack is being cleared up at 14 addresses. Eighty-seven local utility workers are involved. In the damaged buildings, 855 windows have been covered, with 90 remaining. The headquarters have provided targeted assistance to over 1,000 Kyiv residents.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, the initial work to eliminate the consequences of the enemy attack has been completed. 150 cubic metres of debris have been removed, damaged roofs have been inspected, and temporary roofing has been installed.

Last week, an essential intensive training session organised by the Ukrainian Women’s Guard took place at the Obolonskyi Vcentri HUB in Kyiv. The event was dedicated to vital skills – tactical medicine and handling explosive objects (EOD) – as part of the Mine Safety: Lives Saved project.

The regional military administration announced that the Kyiv Regional Centre for Training the Population for National Resistance is organising a one-day course in the capital on 21 June. Participation is free of charge. Certified instructors are veterans of the Third Assault Brigade and the Azov Brigade. The course programme includes tactical training, tactical medicine, and the basics of UAV use.

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr oblast has allocated UAH 50 million to form a ‘strategic reserve’ of unmanned aerial vehicles for the commands of the Khortytsia and Tavria Joint Forces Operation groups, whose units are defending Ukraine in the East and South. According to the Regional State Administration, the funds will be used to finance and purchase drones, electronic warfare equipment, charging stations, and other necessary weapons and support equipment to strengthen combat brigades.

In Zhytomyr, the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Polissya Brigade awarded soldiers for their outstanding performance during combat operations. According to the brigade’s press service, brigade commander Colonel Ruslan Maryshev presented the soldiers with state and brigade awards.

The city council reported that a humanitarian shipment had arrived in Zhytomyr – therapeutic food for patients with rare genetic diseases. The humanitarian aid, worth over 313,000 hryvnias, was organised by the German Samaritan Workers’ Union ‘ASB’.

Sumy oblast

On June 18, after 21:00, the enemy attacked the civilian infrastructure of the Sumy community,” the JMA reported. According to preliminary information, the Russian military fired long-range MLRS at the outskirts of the community.

During the day, from the morning of June 18 to the morning of June 19, Russian troops fired almost 60 times at 28 settlements in 14 territorial communities of the region. Most attacks were recorded in Sumy and Shostka districts. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 10 attacks) in Sumy region, and also attacked with FPV drones, UAVs and MLRS.

As a result of Russian strikes over the past day, civilian infrastructure in the region was damaged and destroyed:

– a private residential building was damaged in Seredyna-Budska community;

– a private residential building was damaged in Bilopilska community;

– a private residential building and an outbuilding were damaged in the River community;

– a cafe building caught fire in Krolevets community.

During the day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and NGOs, evacuated 33 people from border communities.

In Sumy region, roads are being covered with anti-drone nets. According to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the JFO, the work continues in certain areas, including in border communities where the enemy does not stop attacking. Such shelters complicate enemy aerial reconnaissance and protect against drones.

During an air attack by Ukraine, one of the missiles shot down by the Defense Forces fell on a field in Sumy region and did not explode. Police explosives experts found that its 480-kilogram high explosive warhead was extremely dangerous and could not be transported. Experts neutralized the warhead on the spot and took the explosives for destruction by detonation at a specially designated site.

“In the region, 850 parents of schoolchildren and preschoolers have already been trained in first aid as part of the Knowledge Saves Lives project,” the regional military administration said. 26 instructors are teaching important and vital skills. Almost 2,000 participants have already signed up for classes in the Sumy community alone.

Chernihiv oblast

During the day on June 18, Russian troops attacked three border communities in Chernihiv region: Novhorod-Siversk, Semenivka and Snovsk. The enemy fired mortars (13 explosions), cannon artillery (23 explosions) and MLRS (24 explosions), struck with FPV drones (15 explosions), and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (15 explosions). Fifteen settlements were under enemy fire,” the Chernihiv border guard detachment reported. On the territory of the Semenivka community, in the villages of Yanzhulivka and Tymonovychi, non-residential buildings caught fire as a result of explosive devices dropped from a UAV.

On June 18, the Russian military also dropped an explosive device from a UAV on the village of Mkhy. In the village of Khotiyivka, the enemy struck with an FPV drone. The shelling damaged a critical infrastructure facility. This was reported by the “Pivden” Joint Task Force.

In Chernihiv region, Ruslan Bezdetko, a border guard of the 105th Border Guard Detachment named after Prince Volodymyr the Great, was killed on June 15 while performing a combat mission, the Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported. The soldier was killed near the village of Mkhy of the Semenivka territorial community. It happened as a result of a hit by a Russian FPV drone.

During the Russian attack on Kyiv on June 17, two brothers from Parafiyivka, Chernihiv region, were killed, the Parafiyivka village council reported. “They are 29-year-old Artem Tverdokhlib and 32-year-old Maksym Tverdokhlib.

People in the border villages of Hremyach, Kamen and Kamianska Sloboda have been living without electricity, water supply and communication for the past six months. “On June 2, the Russian army shelled and actually destroyed a substation that supplied power to a number of border villages,” said Kateryna Drozdova, spokesperson for Chernihivoblenergo JSC. “It is currently impossible to send people and equipment to restore power supply due to the security situation.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has allocated almost UAH 27.3 million from the state budget reserve fund to complete the construction of fortifications in Chernihiv region. By December 26, 2025, the Chernihiv Regional Military Administration must submit a report on the use of these funds.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the RMA, reported that air defence forces shot down 3 enemy UAVs. A fire broke out in Samar region as a result of the attack. From evening until morning, russian forces continued their assault on Nikopol region, primarily by drones and artillery. The attacks targeted the regional centre, Myrove and Marhanets communities. In Myrove community, 5 people were injured in the morning drone strikes. A car was destroyed by fire and a private house and infrastructure were damaged.

According to updated information, a 59-year-old man was killed in the morning russian attacks. 5 people were injured, including an 11-year-old boy, a 57-year-old woman, a 61-year-old man and 2 men aged 51 and 64. All victims received the necessary medical assistance.

The attacks damaged a non-operational building, a garage and infrastructure in the regional centre, Myrove and Pokrov communities.

Kirovohrad oblast

Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, stated that during the night, Ukrainian air defence forces shot down a russian UAV over Kirovohrad oblast. 

Poltava oblast

In Poltava, a ceremonial raising of the black-and-white Flag of Hope took place as a reminder of Ukrainian prisoners of war and those missing in action.

Cherkasy oblast

Ihor Taburets, Head of the RMA, informed that 3 residents of Cherkasy oblast have been freed from russian captivity.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that russian forces attacked frontline settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. There were no casualties or injuries reported. 2 aerial bombs struck Zaliznychne village, destroying a private house and warehouse facilities. 14 airstrikes were carried out on Malynivka community, including 4 on Poltavka village.

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 18 June, the Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled 2 russian attacks on Orikhiv and Huliaipole regions. Clashes occurred near Shcherbaky and Malynivka.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 18 June, russian forces launched 410 strikes on 12 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast, including 264 UAVs of various types (mostly FPV drones), which targeted Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne and Novodarivka.

Mykolaiv oblast

Based on the information provided by Mykolaiv RMA, during the night of 19 June, drone strikes targeted Inhulka community, damaging an agricultural enterprise and causing fires. There were no casualties reported.

On 18 June, russian forces shelled and twice attacked Kutsurub community by FPV drones. A 70-year-old woman was injured in Dmytrivka village and hospitalised; her condition was reported as stable and moderate. Also, 2 private houses were damaged.

Odesa oblast

Referring to Odesa RMA, as of 6am, there were no russian ships in the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov. However, 3 enemy ships are present in the Mediterranean Sea, 1 of which is equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo capacity of up to 8 missiles.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson City Military Administration, around 6pm, russian forces used a drone to strike a vehicle in Korabelnyi district of Kherson. 2 men, aged 40 and 53, sustained blast injuries and were hospitalised.

As reported by the State Emergency Service, a residential building caught fire in Kherson due to a russian drone attack during the day. The fire was extinguished. There were no casualties reported.

The RMA reported that in Beryslav, a woman was injured by a drone strike. She suffered blast trauma, a concussion, a chest contusion and rib fractures and was hospitalised.

In the morning, a russian drone targeted a service vehicle belonging to Bilozirka Village Administration. A 46-year-old employee was injured and hospitalised with blast trauma and a concussion.

As reported by the CMA, in the morning, russian forces attacked an 84-year-old woman in Korabelnyi district of Kherson by a drone. She sustained blast trauma, a concussion, acute stress reaction, hypertensive crisis and shrapnel wounds to her left forearm.

Overnight, russian forces struck an emergency medical services base in Bilozirka. A garage and 2 ambulances were damaged. Medical personnel were unharmed.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, stated that during the night, Ukrainian air defence shot down a russian Shahed drone over Kherson oblast. 

The RMA informed that russian drones attacked Novooleksandrivka, setting the cultural centre on fire and destroying it. There were no injuries reported.

On 18 June, a 48-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman were injured in Kherson during russian shelling. Both sustained blast injuries and leg wounds.

According to the SES, fires broke out in Zelenivka near Kherson following drone attacks. 5 more fires occurred in the oblast as a result of russian shelling, destroying houses and outbuildings.

Based on the information provided by the RMA, a 64-year-old man was injured during a strike in Bilozirka when a shell landed near his house. He sustained a blast injury, concussion and brain trauma.

On 17 June, a 33-year-old woman from Myroliubivka and a 64-year-old man from Bilozirka were injured by russian shelling. Both were hospitalised today with blast injuries and concussions.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that 18 June, russian forces shelled 34 settlements in Kherson oblast. 9 people were injured. Residential buildings, a gas pipeline, emergency medical facilities, a fire station and vehicles were damaged.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine visited Rozhyshchenskyi Inclusive Resource Center. It was within the framework of the Enhanced Partnership for Sustainable Recovery project, which is funded by the Government of Sweden and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, that the institution managed to open a renovated resource room.

Zakarpattia oblast

Children from the front-line city of Kupiansk will rest in the oblast. Chop City Council allocated UAH 350,000 for their rehabilitation. This initiative will be implemented thanks to the partnership between Chop and Kupiansk communities within the framework of the Side by Side: United Communities national project. The other day in Kyiv, they signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Over 400 drones, Mavics, and awards were handed over to the military on the front lines from Ivano-Frankivsk community.

Lviv oblast

Lviv has signed a grant agreement with the French Development Agency for EUR 5m. This is the first step towards launching a new tram line that will connect the city center with the UNBROKEN center.

A memorial plaque to Oleksii Klaka, driver-fitter of the Artillery Repair and Restoration Battalion of the 146th Separate Repair and Restoration Regiment, was unveiled in Zolochiv. The soldier was killed on 18 June, 2024 near the city of Dobropillia, Donetsk oblast.

The RMA reported that the President of Ukraine awarded 16 defenders from Yavoriv region with high state awards (posthumously).

Rivne oblast

A Center for National and Patriotic Education has been opened in Buhrynsk community. It was set up in the premises of a former small-sized school in the village of Uhiltsi. The newly created Center is aimed not only at children and adolescents from Buhrynsk community, but also at youth from the entire Rivne region.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil defenders receive one-time cash assistance for treatment and rehabilitation. In 2024, payments were provided to 295 soldiers.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

A memorial plaque was unveiled on the facade of Khmelnytskyi Humanitarian and Pedagogical Academy to the fallen defender and former employee Oleksandr Kovalchuk. The defender was killed on 14 September 2023, while performing a combat mission near the village of Verbove, Zaporizhia oblast, as a result of artillery fire.

Chernivtsi oblast

50 repatriated bodies of Ukrainian servicemen have been brought to Chernivtsi Regional Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination for identification and determination of causes of death. Before the examination begins, rescuers and bomb disposal experts are checking the bodies for toxic substances and explosives. This is the third transfer of bodies to Chernivtsi. Before this, 252 bodies were received, of which 102 fighters have been identified so far. One of the bodies may belong to a russian.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Australia has imposed sanctions against russian shadow fleet vessels for the first time. They affected 60 vessels that russia uses to circumvent international restrictions and continue its war against Ukraine.

The International Luge Federation has extended the suspension of russian athletes and representatives from all competitions under the auspices of the FIL, including qualification for the 2026 Olympics in Milan and Cortina.
