The Defense Forces of Ukraine are holding back the advance of Russian occupiers. The terrorists continue to kill Ukrainians and destroy towns and villages across the country.
As of now, the total number of combat engagements stands at 95.
Artillery and mortar fire from the enemy has affected the communities of:
- Kliusy in Chernihiv region;
- Porozok, Zarychne, Pokrovka, Mariine, Bratenytsia, Novovasylivka, Velyka Pysarivka, Mezenivka, and Myropilske in Sumy region;
- Tymofiivka in Kharkiv region.
Frontline Updates
- Northern-Slobozhanske and Kursk directions: Ukrainian forces repelled 17 enemy attacks today, with four more combat clashes ongoing. The invaders launched two airstrikes, dropping four guided aerial bombs, and conducted 87 artillery shellings, including one MLRS strike.
- Southern-Slobozhanske direction: The enemy attempted three assaults near Vovchansk, Lyptsi, and Dovhenke, and carried out an airstrike in the Lobanivka area.
- Kupiansk direction: Russian forces launched two attacks near Stepova Novoselivka and close to Zahryzove. One engagement is ongoing.
- Lyman direction: The invading army carried out eight assaults on Ukrainian positions near Novyi Myr, Olhivka, Hrekivka, Lypove, Zelena Dolyna, Torske, and toward Karpivka. Two battles are currently ongoing.
- Siversk direction: The enemy attacked Ukrainian positions twice near Hryhorivka.
- Kramatorsk direction: The enemy attempted to advance near Orikhovo-Vasylivka, Bila Hora, Kurdiumivka, Predtechyne, Novomarkove, Bondarne, and Stupochky. All 12 assaults were repelled.
- Toretsk direction: The enemy is trying to breach Ukrainian defenses near Toretsk and Dyliivka. Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy assaults.
- Pokrovsk direction: Since the beginning of the day, Russian forces have attempted 24 attacks to push Ukrainian troops from their positions near Malynivka, Myroliubivka, Myrne, Promin, Myrnohrad, Udachne, Novosergiivka, Kotliarivka, Oleksiivka, and toward Novopidhirne. Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 of these attacks and continue to hold the line.
- Novopavlivka direction: Ukrainian troops stopped eight enemy assaults; three engagements are still in progress. The enemy attempted to advance near Zaporizhzhia, Vesele, Myrne, Vilne, Novosilka, Vilne Pole, and Shevchenko. The settlements of Novodarivka and Olhivka were targeted by airstrikes.
- Huliaipole direction: Russian aviation struck Huliaipole and Malynivka with unguided rockets, but no ground assaults were reported.
- Orikhiv direction: Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy assault toward Shcherbaky.
- Prydniprovske direction: No combat engagements have been recorded.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
On the Southern-Slobozhanskyi axis, Russian forces launched three attacks near Vovchansk, Lyptsi, and Dovhenke, and carried out an airstrike on the Lobanivka area.
On the Kupiansk axis, Russian troops attempted two assaults toward Stepova Novoselivka and near Zahryzove. As of 16:00, one combat engagement is still ongoing.
Over the past 24 hours, 186 combat clashes were recorded. On the Southern-Slobozhanskyi axis, the enemy stormed Ukrainian positions three times near the settlements of Vovchansk, Kamianka, and Dovhenke.
On the Kupiansk axis, the enemy attempted one unsuccessful attack, trying to advance near Stepova Novoselivka.
Shelling
Around 05:00, a Russian guided aerial bomb struck the village of Prudianka in the Derhachi community. According to Head of the Military Administration Viacheslav Zadorenko, one house was damaged, but no casualties were reported.
During the night of June 18, Russian FPV drones destroyed a humanitarian aid center in the border village of Ivashky, said Viktor Kovalenko, head of the Zolochiv Administration. The strike caused a fire in the building, destroying the aid distribution area, a generator, food and hygiene kits, and damaging a residential apartment.
In Izium, Russian attack drones hit a residential area overnight. Explosions were heard in the city around 03:15, according to the Izium Military Administration. Fires broke out as a result of the attack.
In total, three settlements in the Kharkiv region were struck over the past 24 hours. Three people were injured, including a child.
In the city of Izium, a 69-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy were injured. In the village of Ripky, Bohodukhiv community, a 52-year-old man was wounded.
The enemy used various types of weapons against Kharkiv region, including:

Other
The full-scale war and climate change have impacted wildlife populations and movements in the Kharkiv region. Notably, the numbers of jackals and pheasants have increased. Due to hostilities, there have been incidents where wild boars, deer, and roe deer have been killed by tripwires or mines.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
On the Pokrovsk axis, Russian forces continue their advance in small groups and are resorting to motorcycle assaults. They are also concentrating in villages, buildings, and basements close to the line of contact before launching attacks, according to a serviceman from the 68th Independent Jaeger Brigade’s drone systems battalion, call sign “Hus.”
Russian troops have increased the number of assaults on the Lyman axis to 16 over the past day, up from seven the day before. According to the General Staff, Ukrainian defense forces repelled enemy assaults near Lypove and toward Hrekivka, Novyi Myr, Olhivka, Zelena Dolyna, Shandryholove, and the Serebrianka forest area.
On the Toretsk axis, Russian forces carried out 16 more attacks in the areas of Diliivka, Toretsk, and in the directions of Shcherbynivka, Oleksandro-Kalynove, Yablunivka, Stepanivka, and Rusyn Yar.
On the Pokrovsk axis alone, Ukrainian defenders repelled 57 assaults over the past day; on the Novopavlivka axis, 22 assaults were stopped.
Shelling
In Kramatorsk, a nighttime shelling destroyed the building of the state veterinary hospital, according to the local military administration. The animals inside suffered concussions from the blast but none were killed or wounded. The blast wave also shattered windows in surrounding buildings.
At 02:30, the Russian army struck Sviatohirsk with S-300 air defense missiles targeting a residential neighborhood, reported the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office. As a result of the nighttime strike, five civilians — four women and one man — were injured and hospitalized. Nineteen apartment and private buildings were damaged, along with seven vehicles, a garage, and several commercial kiosks.

Over the past day, police recorded 3,148 enemy attacks on the frontline and residential areas.
Russian forces concentrated their fire on seven settlements: the cities of Bilytske, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Myrnohrad, and the villages of Andriivka-Klevtsove and Sofiivka.
A total of 24 civilian objects were damaged, including 15 residential buildings.

In Myrnohrad, a Russian drone strike killed a man on the street. In Bilytske, a drone damaged a private home.
In Kostiantynivka, the enemy attacked with a KAB-250 aerial bomb, drones, and artillery — three civilians were injured, and nine private houses, an educational institution, and a civilian vehicle were damaged.
Two UAVs attacked Druzhkivka, damaging a non-residential building and two civilian cars. In Sofiivka (Druzhkivka community), four drones damaged four private homes, a business, and a civilian vehicle. In Lyman, a “Smerch” MLRS strike destroyed a private house.
Other
More than 1,000 people remain in Pokrovsk, and over 3,000 residents are still in the wider community. Evacuation efforts are ongoing, but there have been cases of residents returning. A few stores and utility services are still operating in the city, and a general practitioner is available, according to the Regional Military Administration.
Luhansk oblast
Over the past day, Russian forces carried out 46 strikes. They also attempted to target Ukrainian soldiers’ shelters using 73 unmanned aerial vehicles, including 51 FPV drones launched in our direction.
In ten schools of the so-called “LNR,” starting from September 1, students will receive grades for behavior, which will affect their overall academic performance. This is part of a new Russian experiment affecting schools in Kadiivka, Luhansk, Alchevsk, Dovzhansk, Sorokyne, Starobilsk, and Sievierodonetsk. In these schools, teachers will be able to manipulate students by using behavior grades to pressure participation in propaganda activities. Notably, behavior grading in general secondary education was abolished during the Soviet Union, but Russia has reinstated it in LNR, Chechnya, and Mordovia.
Another case of Russian construction negligence occurred in Sievierodonetsk. Nearly two months ago, Russian builders removed the roof of a multi-story building in an older part of the city — and, as often happens, disappeared afterward. After a rainy season, the building has become uninhabitable.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
The Kyiv City State Administration reported that search and rescue operations are continuing at the site of a partially destroyed nine-story building in the Solomyanskyi district of the capital. Rescuers continue to recover bodies from under the rubble. As of 14:00, 23 people were killed as a result of the strike on the building in the Solomyanskyi district. A total of 28 deaths have been confirmed in Kyiv, with 134 people injured, including six children.
On the evening of 17 June, the President of Ukraine stated that around 30 locations in Kyiv had been hit by missiles or debris. Nearly 150 residential buildings were damaged. A citizen of the United States of America was among the dead.



On 17 June, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organised a visit by more than 60 foreign diplomatic missions to a building in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv that had been destroyed by a Russian strike. According to the Ministry, Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiga wanted ambassadors and representatives of international organisations to see the consequences of russian terror for themselves.
The State Emergency Service reported that on 17 June, the body of a young man was recovered from the rubble of a high-rise building in the Solomyanskyi district of Kyiv. His parents had stood all day near the ruins of the building destroyed by a russian missile, hoping for their son’s rescue. The deceased, 31-year-old Dmytro Isaienko, was a master’s student at Dragomanov University, studying physical culture and sports (human health and physical recreation).

Due to russia’s massive attack on Kyiv on 17 June, windows in one of the oldest buildings of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute on 3 Academic Yanhel Street (Akademika Yangelia Street) were damaged by the blast wave. Construction of the building began in June 1898 – it is one of the first faculties founded when the university itself was established.
Volodymyr Shovkoshynyi, co-founder of the Ukrainian Priority publishing house, reported that the office and warehouse of the publishing house were destroyed as a result of the shelling of Kyiv. Tens of thousands of books, more than 130 titles, were burned. The lost literature includes publications on the history of Ukraine from the Scythian times to the present day.
As a result of the attack on the capital, the russians damaged the production facilities of Fahrenheit, a company that manufactures clothing for the military. The company informs that due to the destruction, all previous orders have been cancelled, and new orders will not be accepted temporarily.
The capital’s police reported that during the night shelling of Kyiv, elements of cluster munitions fell on a high-rise building and nearby. Some of them did not detonate. Explosives experts collected the dangerous elements, deactivated them and loaded them into two explosion-proof mobile containers. The ammunition was taken to a site for further destruction.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, announced that six humanitarian headquarters had been set up in four districts of the city to help residents affected by the nighttime russian attack on Kyiv. Affected Kyiv residents will be able to receive assistance there with registering for material support, consultations with lawyers and psychologists, explanations about further actions and possible payments.
The Kyiv Regional Military Administration, together with the communities of Kyiv oblast, has allocated UAH 70 million to the ‘strategic reserve’ for the Khortytsia and Tavria military units. The funds will be used to purchase UAVs, electronic warfare equipment, modern communications and office equipment, in accordance with the requests of the military command.
Artist Mykhailo Klymchenko, a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and winner of the international glass art competition ‘VitroProfi,’ died from wounds sustained in the war.
Zhytomyr oblast
On 18 June, Zhytomyr Oblast declared a Day of Mourning to honour the victims of the enemy’s massive attacks on the capital and other Ukrainian cities. On the Day of Mourning, entertainment events are prohibited, and all municipal and state institutions must lower their flags.
Last week, the implementation of the international MindBody Flow Program project began in the region in partnership with American scientists. This project aims to introduce innovative practices to support mental health and create an effective support system for veterans, their families, and internally displaced persons.
The Dodzho Sports Club in Zhytomyr offers free karate classes for veterans and their families as part of the Heroes Return project. Trainers work with veterans individually and in groups. The team also includes a physical therapist who helps select the training programme.
Sumy oblast
The Regional Military Administration reported that as a result of russian shelling in Sumy oblast on 17 June, two people were killed and one person was injured. In Bilopillia community, an FPV-drone strike killed one civilian and injured another. In Yunakivka community, a man born in 1978 was killed by a guided aerial bomb (GAB).
From the morning of 17 June to the morning of 18 June, russian forces carried out over 80 attacks on 33 settlements across 12 territorial communities in Sumy oblast. Sumy and Shostka regions recorded the highest number of strikes. The enemy actively used UAV-dropped explosive devices (30 strikes), MLRS (over 10 strikes), and guided aerial bombs (nearly 10 strikes). Enemy troops also launched FPV-drone attacks, UAV strikes, and a missile strike on the oblast.
As a result of russian shelling in Sumy oblast over the past day, the following damage was reported:
- In Konotop community: non-residential buildings, a school building, eight apartment blocks, four private homes, and two vehicles were damaged.
- In Bilopillia community: a motor cultivator was damaged.
- In Yunakivka community: a private house was destroyed.
Over the past day, 60 people were evacuated by local authorities, in cooperation with State Emergency Service units, the National Police, and NGOs from border communities.
Over the past week, 383 residents of Chernechchyna community received free medical care from Fortitude’s mobile clinics. The medical team operated in three villages. The project, ‘Mobile Clinics of Sumy Region’, is being implemented by the Fortitude charitable foundation in partnership with the International Rescue Committee in Ukraine.
The Regional Military Administration informed that Sumy oblast has received a powerful generator thanks to the support of Ukraine’s Ambassador to Croatia, Vasyl Kyrylych. The 600 kW generator has been delivered to one of the border communities, where it will ensure the uninterrupted operation of the local water utility.
Chernihiv oblast
Viacheslav Chaus, Chernihiv Regional Governor, reported that on the morning of 17 June, russian forces attacked a village in Snovsk community by a drone. The strike occurred near a shop. A 68-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds and was given the necessary medical care in hospital.
According to ‘North’ Operational Command, a ‘Molniya’-type drone exploded in Novi Borovychi village.

The Department for Civil Protection and Defence Work of the Chernihiv Regional Administration informed that on 17 June, in Hremiach village, Novhorod-Siverskyi community, a drone-dropped explosive caused a fire in an uninhabited house and an outbuilding. Another uninhabited house in Buchky village, within the same community, caught fire following an FPV-drone explosion.
According to ‘North’ Operational Command, a russian drone strike damaged a power line in Zhuklia village, part of Kholmy community.
Chernihiv Border Detachment reported that throughout 17 June, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar shelling (43 explosions), barrel artillery strikes (41 explosions), and MLRS attacks (33 explosions). They also launched FPV-drone strikes (19 explosions) and dropped explosive devices from UAVs (58 explosions). A total of 19 settlements came under enemy fire.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Last night, the russians attacked Zaporizhzhia with 13 drones. As a result of the attack, nine apartment buildings and six non-residential structures were damaged, and warehouses and cars burned down.

Yesterday, 17 June the occupiers launched 441 strikes on 14 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy launched 4 missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia. They also conducted 12 airstrikes on Kamianske, Huliaipole, Olhivske, Malynivka, Uspenivka, Poltavka, and Novodarivka. 225 UAVs of various modifications (mainly FPV) attacked Zaporizhzhia, Lezhyne, Bilenke, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. Six MLRS strikes hit Huliaipole, Novodanylivka, and Novodarivka. There were 164 artillery strikes on Bilenke, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, and Novodarivka. There were 53 reports of damage to private houses, apartments, outbuildings, cars, and infrastructure.
Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack near Shcherbaky towards Orikhiv. On 17 June, the Defense Forces repelled two russian attacks towards Huliaipole.
Today, 18 June, the so-called acting mayor of the city, Mykhailo Hrytsai, was shot dead in temporarily occupied Berdiansk, Zaporizhzhia oblast. He is suspected of state treason in Ukraine. According to the press service of the Chief Intelligence Directorate, Mykhailo Hrytsai voluntarily cooperated with russia after the occupation of Berdiansk. He was notified in absentia of suspicion in a criminal case opened on1 April, 2022, under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason).
Mykolaiv oblast
Yesterday afternoon, 17 June, and this morning, 18 June, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community with FPV drones. Yesterday, an FPV drone also struck the waters of Ochakiv community. No casualties were reported.
Odesa oblast
Dozens of residential buildings were affected in Prymorskyi district as a result of the massive strike on Odesa on 17 June. As of 12:00 on 18 June, specialists reported damage to 51 residential buildings, over 130 apartments, and more than 200 m² of roofing. Some buildings were left without water and electricity. During the nighttime attack, an Inclusive Resource Center was also damaged, along with humanitarian aid intended for wounded soldiers that caught fire.
Over the past day, five vessels serving russian interests passed through the Kerch Strait into the Black Sea, and another seven ships entered the Sea of Azov.
Kherson oblast
Today, russian forces shelled Romashkove with artillery. A 28-year-old man who was in his yard sustained a blast injury, a concussion, and a shrapnel wound to his leg.
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, russian occupiers attacked a fire station in Bilozerka with a drone. Three State Emergency Service workers were injured — they suffered concussions, blast, and closed head injuries. Two of them also sustained shrapnel wounds.
A Kherson resident sought medical help after being injured by a drone strike the previous day in Tavriiskyi neighborhood. The 50-year-old man was diagnosed with a blast injury and a concussion.
Two women from Kherson, injured in yesterday’s massive drone attack in Dniprovskyi district, were also hospitalized. Both had blast injuries and concussions. Another local man received medical help for a blast injury and a shrapnel wound to his shin.
A woman from Bilozerka, whose house was shelled by russian forces on 16 June, also sought medical care. She suffered a blast injury, concussion, and a brain concussion.
Two people were killed and 36 injured as a result of russian actions in Kherson oblast. On 17 June, the enemy attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Sadove, Bilozerka, Dariivka, Shyroka Balka, Komyshany, Klapaia, Pravdyne, Inzhenerne, Beryslav, Burhunka, Havrylivka, Novooleksandrivka, and Novokairy. 27 sites were damaged: 12 private homes, a school building, a garage, 11 civilian vehicles, and a police service car.
Ukrainian forces repelled two enemy assaults near the Antonivskyi Bridge. Over the past day, russian losses amounted to 111 personnel, 1 tank, 10 artillery systems (including a 2S4 Tyulpan self-propelled mortar), 1 electronic warfare station, 30 units of motor and armored vehicles, 11 motorcycles, 5 boats, 2 ATVs, 1 ground drone, 10 UAVs (Zala, Supercam, Orlan), 5 communication antennas, 1 electronic warfare device, 5 UAV control antennas, and 2 surveillance cameras. 61 shelters/dugouts, 2 ammunition storage sites, and 1 observation post were destroyed.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine
Volyn oblast
In Lutsk, the elimination of the consequences of the combined attack by the russian federation on 6 June continues. Municipal workers collected and removed over 130 tonnes of construction debris: wood, glass, concrete, and the remains of windows and doors. UAH 2m was allocated from the city budget for the collection and removal of garbage after the attack.
Zakarpattia oblast
The Diia.Business Entrepreneur Support Center in Uzhhorod hosted a presentation of results of the educational and grant initiative POVIR, aimed at developing women’s entrepreneurship in Zakarpattia oblast. The project involved 51 women – 22 from the oblast and 29 internally displaced persons.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
Sappers from the oblast continue to demine the lands of Kherson oblast. Since the beginning of the year, a pyrotechnic group from the oblast has been working in the liberated territories. During this time, 118 hectares have been surveyed and 277 explosive devices have been detected and neutralized. And since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, pyrotechnic units have surveyed 792 hectares of territory, detected and neutralized 716 explosive devices.
Ground-based robotic assault systems worth UAH 2.5m were delivered to the 50th Regiment of the National Guard.
Lviv oblast
Bohdan Zagayskyi was awarded the Golden Cross breastplate by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since March 2022, Bohdan has been serving in a separate unit of the Radio Engineering Troops of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The parish community of the village of Tarasivka, Pidberiztsivska community, send UAH 30,000 to the soldiers. Children from the village of Pidhirne gave the defenders over 4,500 UAH. In the village of Hrebintsi, Kulykivska community, over UAH 20,000 were collected during a charity concert.
Rivne oblast
The RMA held a meeting with Ernal Filo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Albania. They discussed attracting investments from Albania to the oblast.
Ternopil oblast
The 49th Separate Assault Battalion Karpatska Sich received 2 modern DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters from Ternopil community.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
Khmelnytskyi RMA and communities of the oblast are allocating UAH 50m for equipment to soldiers in the southern and eastern directions. So far, almost UAH 39m has been transferred from the regional budget and community budgets, and over UAH 11m more is planned to be allocated this week.
Chernivtsi oblast
Students and teachers of Kitsman Vocational College, who were involved in a road accident in France, arrived in Chernivtsi. 40 people, including 34 students, were met at Chernivtsi railway station by representatives of Chernivtsi RMA, medics and psychologists. 8 students and one adult are still in French hospitals, where they continue to receive medical care.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Canada announced a $1.5bn military aid package for Ukraine and new sanctions against the russian federation. Ukraine will also be provided with a $2bn loan, the interest on which will be covered by the funds of frozen russian assets.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, met with Mark Carney, Canadian Prime Minister. They discussed steps for further diplomatic work with partners within NATO, the G7 and the Coalition of the Willing, strengthening Ukrainian air defense, and further deepening the military cooperation, including joint weapons production projects and investments in the Ukrainian defense industry.
