Ukraine’s defence forces are holding back the russian invaders’ offensive. Terrorists continue to kill Ukrainians and destroy Ukrainian towns and villages with missile, air and artillery strikes. The number of military clashes has now risen to 87.
The situation is the hottest towards Kurakhove and Pokrovsk. The defence forces are taking all necessary measures to prevent the enemy from advancing deeper into Ukrainian territory.
Hostile artillery and mortar fire hit communities in Sumy oblast, such as Novenke and Pavlivka. In addition, the russians launched airstrikes with drones near Basivka.
Towards Kharkiv, the enemy made three attempts to storm the positions of our units near Vovchansk. He launched air strikes on Kozacha Lopan, dropping five UAVs.
Towards Kupiansk, russian invaders attacked the Ukrainian defence forces seven times in the areas of Kruhliakivka and Lozove. Two firefights are still ongoing. Ukrainian troops are holding steadfast and inflicting losses on the enemy.
Towards Lyman, the invading army made two attacks on Ukrainian positions near Novoliubivka and Bilohorivka during the day. One firefight ended, the other is ongoing.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy tried to break into our defences near Toretsk with the support of aviation. Kostiantynivka was hit by anti-aircraft guns.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian invaders, supported by air power, made 17 attempts to push our defenders from their positions near Myroliubivka, Promen, Lysivka, Petrivka, Pustynka and Novooleksiivka. The defence forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled ten enemy attacks, seven combat engagements are still ongoing.
Towards Kurakhove, the enemy army attacked 23 times near the settlements of Berestky, Sontsivka, Voznesenka, Dalne, Yelyzavetivka, Katerynivka and Antonivka. Six attempts by the occupiers to advance have already been repelled. The enemy bombarded Romanivka and Dachne with aerial vehicles.
Towards Vremivka, 12 enemy attacks took place near Trudove, Rozdolne, Makarivka, Rivne and Novodarivka. Seven combat engagements are ongoing.
Towards Kherson, the enemy unsuccessfully attacked our defenders six times.
The operation in Kursk oblast continues. Since the beginning of the day, russian aircraft have carried out 15 strikes (21 missiles) on their own territory. Ukrainian soldiers repelled ten enemy attacks today, and the fighting continues.
The Ministry of Defence has approved more than 140 new UAV models for service in 2024. At the same time, last year, the Ministry of Defence allowed 60 UAVs and 9 UAVs made in Ukraine to enter service. It is noted that in 2024, more than 40% of all air and ground drones in Ukraine were codified during the third quarter. In particular, unmanned systems that are resistant to electronic warfare, radio-transparent, low-noise, with homing and self-destruction systems were allowed to be used in the Defence Forces.
Russian Federation damaged at least 1641 schools in Ukraine and destroyed 201 more. Ukraine has already repaired 727 schools that were damaged as a result of hostilities or occupation. Of these, 586 facilities have undergone routine repairs and 141 have undergone major repairs.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the russian army has increased the number of attacks towards Kurakhove and resumed attacks towards Siversk and Kramatorsk.
Near Kurakhove, the Defence Forces repelled 42 attacks. The occupiers were most actively trying to advance near Nova Illinka, Berestky, Voznesenka, Sontsivka, Zoria, Maksymilianivka, Dalne, Kurakhove, Katerynivka, Yelyzavetivka and Antonivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian defenders stopped 32 attacks and offensives near Myroliubivka, Promin, Lysivka, Krutyi Yar, Yurivka, Hryhorivka, Pustynka and Petrivka.
Towards Siversk, Ukrainian troops repelled one enemy attack near Verkhnokamianske. Towards Kramatorsk, there was one combat in the vicinity of Bila Hora yesterday.
Kharkiv oblast
Towards Kharkiv, the occupiers made three attempts to storm the positions of Ukrainian units near Vovchansk. They launched airstrikes on Kozacha Lopan and dropped five missiles.
Towards Kupiansk, russian invaders attacked the Ukrainian defence forces seven times near Kruhliakivka and Lozove. Two firefights are still ongoing as of 4pm.
The CMA said that a 52-year-old man sustained an explosive chest injury as a result of russian shelling of Tokarivka in Kharkiv district at around 4pm.
Yesterday at 11:10 pm, russia-backed militants attacked Basove and Odnorobivka villages of Zolochiv community, Bohodukhiv region. A UAV hit in the open area.
At 10:06pm, Kupiansk was under attack of the russian Federation. The shelling destroyed a private house.
At 9:51pm, Kupiansk was under russian attack. As a result of the shelling, apartments on the fifth and fourth floors of an apartment building were burning. A 65-year-old woman was injured.
At 9:20pm, Kupiansk was targeted. The shelling damaged a private house, a garage and 10 cars. A 50-year-old woman was injured.
At 4:36pm, Ruska Lozova of Derhachi community, Kharkiv region, was hit. The roof of a warehouse building caught fire as a result of falling debris from 2 Shahed UAVs.
At 2:50, Hlushkivka village was attacked. As a result of the shelling, an 84-year-old man sustained an explosive wound.
At 12pm, Kupiansk was shelled. The shelling damaged a private house.

At 9:10am, Zolochiv community of Bohodukhiv region were under russian attack. They shelled the open area near the village of Baranivka (3 KABs) and (1 KAB) in the open area near Stohniia village.
There were ten combat engagements with russian invaders towards Kharkiv. Five attacks were repelled near Starytsia, four – near Vovchansk, one attack was repelled by our defenders near Vysoka Yaruha, the enemy was unsuccessful.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy tried 10 times to move our units from their positions near Kucherivka, Kruhliakivka and Kolisnykivka. One firefight near Zahryzove is still ongoing.

Kharkiv oblast is the second oblast in Ukraine to launch a centre for preparing the population for national resistance. Currently, about 400 people are learning the basics of military affairs. The training programme lasts 96 hours and covers 15 subjects: tactical and firearms training, tactical medicine, combat safety and others. The students include civil servants, employees of state-funded institutions, and volunteers.
Valeriia Shumska, Head of the oblast’s demining operations, reported that around 700,000 square metres of territory – the size of 94 Dynamo stadiums – have been cleared by The Halo Trust demining teams in Kharkiv oblast.
Residents of the communities in the region have purchased 633 apartments and 216 private houses under the state programme yeVidnovlennia. At the same time, 26,018 people received UAH 2.6bn in compensation for housing repairs under the state programme.
Donetsk oblast
Vadym Filashkin, Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, reported that one person was killed in the artillery shelling of Siversk.
Vadym Liakh, Head of Sloviansk CMA, informed that the russian army shelled the outskirts of Sloviansk. There were explosions around 3:20pm. As a result, production and administrative premises of several private enterprises and nearby private houses were damaged in Semenivka neighbourhood.
At around 1:25pm, russian troops shelled Kostiantynivka with cannon artillery. A 61-year-old local resident died on the spot as a result of the shelling. A 68-year-old man was seriously injured. The wounded man was taken to hospital, where he died during resuscitation. Two more people, an 89-year-old woman and a 46-year-old man, sustained shrapnel wounds. The shelling damaged 2 apartment buildings and cars.

Yesterday police recorded 2,980 hostile attacks along the frontline and in the residential sector. Lyman, Siversk, Sloviansk, Toretsk, Berestok and Pleshchyivka were under attack. 8 civilian objects, including 5 residential buildings, were damaged.
The russians attacked Siversk with a FAB-250 bomb and artillery, injuring a civilian and damaging a critical infrastructure facility.
The enemy attacked Sloviansk with an S-300 missile, destroying four private houses and a religious facility.
In Pleshchyivka, a private house was damaged by shelling.
The SBU reported that the so-called “minister of coal and energy” of “Donetsk People’s Republic” was notified of being suspected of collaboration. The man was appointed to his “position” in September 2023. During his “work”, the russian company leases five profitable mines. The occupiers also continue to export Ukrainian coal to rssia.
Mariupol City Council reported that the first conscripts from Mariupol and the district have been sent to serve in the russian army. They will serve in military units in Crimea, Rostov region, and Krasnodar region.
Stepan Shtefuriak, Head of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Yasinia Village Council, said that volunteer educators from Transcarpathia spent ten days building protective shelters for Ukrainian soldiers in Pokrovsk region of Donetsk oblast.

Luhansk oblast
The russians used artillery systems and drones to shell our fortifications and settlements located on the contact line. In particular, they sent 11 UAVs at Makiivka. The attack was stopped near Hrekivka and Tverdokhlibove. At the same time, the enemy was supported by aviation towards Siversk, launching attacks with guided aerial bombs.
The occupiers detained and dismissed several commanders of brigades and battalions of the russian army for false successes towards Siversk. They repeatedly reported to their senior military commanders about the alleged capture of settlements, including Bilohorivka, which was not true. In support of their reports, they showed publications by russian bloggers and war correspondents with whom they had friendly relations. The latter passed off their dreams as reality – they occupied territories and positions while sitting on the couch and exclusively in online publications.
Artem Lysohor, Had of the RMA, reported that the occupiers started talking about rebuilding the airport in Luhansk, which was destroyed in the fighting 10 years ago. According to the occupiers’ preliminary plan, the work is to begin in 2028. The Ukrainian military defended Luhansk airport for 146 days and withdrew from it in early September 2014, when the airport was destroyed.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Ruslan Kravchenko, Head of the RMA, reported that the number of damaged objects in Kyiv oblast has increased as a result of the hostile attack on 17 November. Debris damaged an infrastructure facility, 67 private houses, one apartment, 8 cars, a shop, a restaurant, an administrative building, outbuildings and garages. A woman of 45 years old was wounded and received medical aid on the spot.
A resident of the Lebedivka village found the wreckage of a drone on the water while walking and reported it to the State Emergency Service. Bomb squad divers examined the water area of the Kyiv Reservoir and recovered the remnants of the UAV.
DTEK Kyiv Regional Power Grids reported that stabilisation blackouts will be introduced in Kyiv oblast on 18 November. The outage schedules are available on DTEK’s information platforms.
Olena Biletska, Head of the Ukrainian Women’s Guard, announced that the Ukrainian Women’s Guard is constantly conducting mine safety training for adults and children – 676 people have been trained in the last two months alone. The purpose of such training is to inform the population during the war to save lives and health. The team of instructors of the Ukrainian Women’s Guard is internationally qualified and certified by The HALO Trust.
In Kyiv oblast, 94 residential buildings have been restored and thermally modernised under the Restore Home programme. The RMA informed that renovation works on 54 more houses are in the final stages. In addition, 31 applications are in progress. “As part of the programme, specialists are replacing windows, roof balconies, restoring engineering networks and boiler equipment. The grant programme, which is open to condominiums, is funded by the European Union and Ukraine.
Hansen Mission Ukraine has built 6 private houses in Moshchun and one in Buzova. The construction began in August. Today, 25 people have their own homes. These are large families, families of military personnel and volunteers, pensioners and those who lost their relatives as a result of the hostilities.
The Ukrainian Navy Command reported that the second masterclass for marine unmanned systems specialists was held in Kyiv. The participants had the opportunity to see modern unmanned aerial systems, which are actively used on the battlefield, in action. The Marines performed demonstrations, showing how these technologies work in different weather conditions and even in the face of enemy electronic warfare.
Ukrainian poet, writer and soldier Serhii Zhadan, originally from Luhansk oblast, raised UAH 200,000 for the needs of the Kharkiv-based Charter Brigade. He held a reading in support of Ukrainian power engineers.
Zhytomyr oblast
Zhytomyr Regional Employment Centre reported that since the launch of the Grants for Veterans and Their Families programme, residents of Zhytomyr oblast have submitted more than 210 applications with their own business plans, 75 of which have been approved. As a result, grantees are expected to create more than 150 new jobs.
The RMA reported that Zhytomyr Open Volleyball Championship among women’s teams in memory of Yuriy Horodnyi took place. The hero died defending the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine in the fight against the armed aggression of the russian Federation. Family members, colleagues and students of Yuriy Horodnyi attended the competition.
On 16 November, more than 100 children joined the national patriotic campaign “Pass the Good around” in Shoduarivskyi Park in Zhytomyr. The children planted trees, participated in activities and handed over handmade amulets to the joint assault brigade of the National Police “Rage”.
Sumy oblast
Sumy Regional Military Administration reported that on the night of 18 November 18, russian forces launched a missile strike on critical infrastructure in Sumy, causing a citywide power outage. Three people were injured as a result of the attack. Some hospitals in the city are currently operating on generators.
Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that on 17 November, at 8:38pm, russian forces launched a missile strike on Sumy, likely using a ballistic missile, which hit a densely populated residential area of the city. The death toll from the attack has risen to 12, including a 9-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl. A total of 84 people sustained injuries of varying severity, including 12 children. Eleven people remain in intensive care, six of whom are children. Efforts to address the aftermath of the attack involve around 10 teams of volunteers, community organisations, and various municipal services. The attack damaged 2,200 windows in over 1,000 homes, as well as two educational institutions, 13 buildings (including 90 apartments), and 28 vehicles. Over 400 residents have been evacuated.
During night and morning, russians carried out 10 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 26 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Yunakivka, Myropilia, and Velyka Pysarivka communities.
Sumy branch of “Gas Networks” reported that gas supply has been temporarily suspended for 16 customers in Velyka Pysarivka, Okhtyrka region, following a fire caused by russian shelling. The street where the incident occurred has been cordoned off.
Chernihiv oblast
During the day russian army attacked two border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi and Semenivka communities, using mortars, barrel artillery, AGS, FPV-drones, drops from UAVs. In total, border guards recorded 86 explosions.
Novhorod-Siverskyi community:
- towards Hremiach: one hit, probably by an FPV-drone;
- towards Hai: two hits, probably by an FPV-drone.
Semenivka community:
- towards Hremiachka: 15 explosions, probably by a 120mm mortar and 60 explosions, probably by AGS;
- towards Yanzhulivka: two hits, probably drops from the UAV;
- towards Semenivka: two hits, probably by barrel artillery;
- towards Naberezhne: four hits, probably dropping an explosive device from an unmanned aerial vehicle.
No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported as a result of the shelling
Sosnytsia community informed that Junior Sergeant Roman Pastushenko from Sosnytsia in Chernihiv oblast has been awarded the Badge of Honor “Cross of Military Valor” by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The recognition was for his significant personal contribution to the development of the Armed Forces and exemplary performance of military duties. Roman continues to defend Ukraine against Russian forces.
The Department of Family, Youth, and Sports of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration reported that the athlete from Chernihiv, Anna Kazakova, won the silver medal at the European Judo Championship for U23 youth. The competition took place in Polish city of Piła. Anna earned the silver medal in the 78 kg weight category as part of the team (wall-to-wall).
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Late into the evening, the enemy continued attacking Nikopol region. The occupiers attacked the regional centre, Marhanets and Myrove communities by kamikaze drones. A private house and infrastructure were damaged, but no casualties were reported.
Throughout the day, the occupiers attacked Nikopol region about 15 times by kamikaze drones and artillery. They targeted the regional centre, Pokrovske, Marhanets and Myrove communities, damaging a private house, a municipal enterprise and an unused building. There were no casualties reported.
Vinnytsia oblast
A memorial ceremony for Viktor Khetchykov (call sign – Headshot) was held in Vinnytsia today. Residents are encouraged to form a living corridor to honour the fallen Azov soldier. Viktor was killed on 10 November near Leonidivka village in Bakhmut region of Donetsk oblast. He was only 25 years old.
Defender Yevhen Mysiura from Vinnytsia was awarded the Golden Cross medal. He is a serviceman in the 120th Territorial Defence Brigade and a UAV operator.
According to Ladyzhyn City Council, the aftermath of the 17 November missile strike in Vinnytsia continues to be addressed. In Ladyzhyn, critical infrastructure and the academic rowing base of Children’s and Youth Sports School were damaged. Civil infrastructure, including educational facilities in several regions, was also affected.
In Vinnytsia, a charity evening titled Green Sun was held in memory of poet and archaeologist Volodymyr Prylypko. Funds were raised to support the 153rd Mechanised Brigade, where the poet’s son serves.
According to the Youth Policy Department of the City Council, on the Day of Dignity and Freedom, a screening of the film Cyborgs: Heroes Never Die will take place in Vinnytsia, followed by a discussion of its key ideas. The event is scheduled for 20 November at the creative space Level 80, with free entry.
Kirovohrad oblast
Vitalina Bevzenko, Spokesperson of the Regional Police, reported that in Kirovohrad oblast, the warhead of a downed russian missile was destroyed. The unexploded cruise missile warhead was neutralised through a controlled detonation.
Oleh Koliuka, City Council Secretary, informed that in Kropyvnytskyi, 35 stationary Invincibility Centres have been inspected and are ready to operate in case of a blackout.
Oleksii Chuiko, Head of the YaMariupol (IMariupol) centre in Kropyvnytskyi, stated that displaced people from Mariupol may receive social housing in Kropyvnytskyi. A former dormitory at the Central Ukrainian National Technical University will be converted to accommodate 100 families.
Poltava oblast
Ihor Protsyk, Head of Shcherbanivka community, said that in Shcherbanivka community, 3 Invincibility Centres are operational. These facilities can simultaneously accommodate about 3% of the local population. Additional heating and device-charging stations will be deployed if needed.
Staff Sergeant Ihor Kalaida paid tribute in Poltava. A memorial service for the fallen soldier was held at the Holy Dormition Cathedral. The 57-year-old serviceman was killed on 14 November, in Kursk oblast of russia during a combat mission.
Yurii Piskun, a serviceman from Dykanka community, was killed on 14 November during an artillery shelling of positions while on a combat mission in the northeastern axis. He was 37 years old.
A 66-year-old woman injured during the 17 November missile attack in Kremenchuk is in critical condition at the intensive care hospital. Multiple surgical teams are working to stabilise her condition, which remains severe.
Cherkasy oblast
According to the Air Force, in Cherkasy oblast, air defence systems were active overnight, destroying Shahed drones.
Ihor Yeshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the 15th Mobile Border Guard Detachment, stated that since October, military units have been allowed to independently mobilise reservists and volunteers without involving territorial recruitment centres. Residents of Cherkasy oblast can now join the defence forces directly.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Yesterday, the occupiers launched 424 attacks on 13 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The enemy carried out three missile strikes on Zaporizhzhia. russian forces conducted 22 airstrikes on Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Yurkivka, Temyrivka, and Mala Tokmachka. 225 drones of various modifications targeted Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, and Novodarivka. Eight MLRS strikes hit Preobrazhenka, Novodarivka, and Mala Tokmachka. There were 166 artillery strikes on the areas of Lobkove, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, and Novodarivka. Reports indicated damage to 16 residential buildings and infrastructure objects. Six people were injured as a result of russian aggression.
On 17 November, five fires broke out in Zaporizhzhia oblast due to russian shelling. Firefighters extinguished four fires in the village of Preobrazhenka in Polohy region, while a garage and an outbuilding covering 50 square meters caught fire in Orikhiv.
The General Staff reported that no active enemy operations took place towards Huliaipole. Ukrainian defenders repelled one enemy attack near Novoandriivka towards Orikhiv.
Soldiers of the Ukrainian National Guard’s “Spartan” brigade, together with adjacent units, captured three russian soldiers during assault operations towards Zaporizhzhia.
Mykolaiv oblast
Yesterday, on 17 November, the enemy attacked Kutsurub community four times using FPV drones. As a result of these attacks, an apartment building in the village of Dmytrivka was damaged. Additionally, the enemy shelled the waters of Ochakiv community with artillery. There were no reported casualties.
According to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, six people injured in the Shahed drone attack on Mykolaiv on 17 November are currently in the hospital, including one child. The condition of all the injured is stable, with no deterioration reported.
Odesa oblast
Today, russia attacked Odesa with an “Iskander-M” ballistic missile. The missile was intercepted by air defense forces but fell in a residential area of the city’s Prymorskyi district. The attack resulted in 10 fatalities, including seven police officers, a medic, and two local residents. Additionally, 47 people were injured, among them four children. 19 November has been declared a day of mourning in Odesa and the surrounding region.

Following the attack on 17 November, Odesa Regional Military Administration reported on the region’s situation. Two of the seven regions in Odesa oblast, Podilsk and Odesa, still face partial power outages. Water supply in Odesa is gradually being restored. Some facilities are operating on generators, and Centers of Invincibility have been set up. Heating has been partially restored, with ongoing efforts to fully restore the heating system. Hospitals and other critical infrastructure are powered by alternative and backup sources. In total, 674 Centers of Invincibility are operating in the region.
Kherson oblast
This morning, a 46-year-old resident of Kindiika was killed due to enemy shelling. Additionally, russian forces shelled Komyshany in the morning, injuring a 65-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital with shrapnel wounds, a concussion, explosive injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.
At night, russian occupiers attacked a regional healthcare facility using UAVs. The attack destroyed two ambulances after explosives were dropped from a drone.
Yesterday, the enemy attacked Kherson, Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Sadove, Stanislav, Oleksandrivka, Tomyna Balka, Bilozerka, Molodizhne, Novoraisk, Novovorontsovka, Zolota Balka, and Burhunka. 26 obejects were damaged, including two apartment buildings, 12 private houses, seven civilian vehicles, a police car, a critical infrastructure site, a post office, and a garage. Four people were killed, and ten others were injured due to russian aggression.
Ukrainian forces in the south eliminated 212 occupiers and destroyed 73 units of russian weaponry and equipment over the past day. Defense units also struck six russian bunkers, two ammunition and fuel storage sites, an observation post, a firing position, and a drone launch site.
Last week, volunteer medics visited Starosillia, Dovhove, Sadok, Borozenske, and Kucherske. A family doctor, neurologist, ophthalmologist, endocrinologist, and cardiologist treated over 270 local residents.
Residents of Kherson oblast received over ten thousand food packages from the World Central Kitchen charity foundation. In the past two months, residents of Novovorontsovka, Nova Kakhovka, Mylove, Velyka Oleksandrivka, Beryslav, Kalynivka, Novoraisk, Borozenske, Tiahynka, Novooleksandrivka, and Vysokopillia communities received long-lasting food supplies such as canned goods, pasta, flour, grains, and other essentials to meet basic nutritional needs.

36 children from families of military personnel, law enforcement officers and border guards of the oblast went on vacation to the Slovak town of Tatranska Lesna. Children from Sumy oblast will have a rest at the Children’s Paradise school in nature. Thanks to such cooperation, children will have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the culture and traditions of Slovakia, find new friends and restore their physical and mental health.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Lviv oblast
The RMA held a meeting with UN representatives led by Mathias Schmale. Issues of internally displaced persons and their integration, the state of education, the improvement of medical facilities, and the economic situation were discussed.
Last week, over 60 people arrived in Lviv oblast by evacuation trains. The most requested help remains support, information, psychological consultations. As well as settlements of older people and people with disabilities.
Rivne oblast
