War in Ukraine today: latest news, 17 April, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 784th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

On 17 April, 71x tactical engagements were reported.

The enemy launched a total of 4x missiles and 43x air strikes, 43x MLRS attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have killed and wounded civilians. Residential apartment blocks and private houses as well as other infrastructure were destroyed or damaged.

In the morning, the enemy launched a missile attack at the city of Chernihiv. Preliminarily, the attack killed 17x people, wounded more than 60x, including 2x children. 3x people were rescued from under the debris. The search and rescue operation is ongoing.

Volyn and Polissia axes: no significant changes. No signs of the formation of enemy offensive groups were found.

Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna axes: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy continues its sabotage and reconnaissance activities, shelling Ukrainian settlements from the territory of russia and increasing the density of minefields along the state border of Ukraine. The enemy fired artillery and mortars at more than 15x settlements, including Klyusy, Yeline, Leonivka (Chernihiv oblast), Sydorivka, Bila Bereza and Bilopillia (Sumy oblast).

Kupiansk axis: the enemy launched 4x attacks at the Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Novoserhiivka (Kharkiv oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 20x settlements, including Synkivka, Petropavlivka and Kyslivka (Kharkiv oblast).

Lyman axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled 3x in the vicinities of Nevske (Luhansk oblast) and Terny (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at more than 10x settlements, including Makiivka (Luhansk oblast), Yampolivka, Torske and Zarichne (Donetsk oblast).

Bakhmut axis: the Ukrainian troops repelled 19x attacks in the vicinities of Bilohorivka (Luhansk oblast), Vyimka, Rozdolivka, Chasiv Yar, Novyi and Klishchiivka (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the invaders attempted to improve their tactical position in that area. The enemy launched an airstrike in the vicinity of Verkhnokamianske, Ivano-Darivka, Spirne, and Dyliivka (Donetsk oblast). More than 10x settlements came under artillery and mortar fire, including Hryhorivka, Kalynivka and Chasiv Yar (Donetsk oblast).

Avdiivka axis: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 9x attacks in the vicinities of Semenivka, Novobakhmutivka, Ocheretyne, Novokalynove, and Pervomaiske (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the enemy attempted to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their positions in that area. Also, the adversary launched air strikes in the vicinities of Pervomaiske, Soloviove, Novokalynove, Novopokrov’ke, Novoselivka Persha, Novobakhmutivka, Sokil, and Oleksandropil (Donetsk oblast). The invaders fired artillery and mortars at around 15x settlements, including Novokalynove, Novobakhmutivka and Netailove (Donetsk oblast).

Novopavlivka axis: the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to hold back the enemy in the vicinities of Vodiane, Pobieda, and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). With the air support, the invaders made 15x attempts to breach Ukrainian defence in that area. Also, the enemy launched air strikes in the vicinities of Krasnohorivka, Heorhiivka, and Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast). More than 10x settlements, including Paraskoviivka, Kostyantynivka and Vuhledar (Donetsk oblast), were under artillery and mortar attack by the occupiers.

Orikhiv axis: with the air support, the enemy launched 3x attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders in the vicinities of Staromaiorske (Donetsk oblast). The invaders launched 1x airstrike in the vicinity of the settlement of Robotyne (Zaporizhzhia oblast). Around 20x settlements, including Malynivka, Chervone, Bilohiria and Shcherbaky (Zaporizhzhia oblast), came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.

Kherson axis: the enemy does not abandon its intention to dislodge Ukrainian troops from their bridgeheads on the left bank of the Dnipro River. For instance, on 17 April, the adversary launched 2x unsuccessful attacks on the positions of the Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Krynky (Kherson oblast). The enemy fired artillery and mortars at around 20x settlements, including Beryslav, Tokarivka, Tiahynka, Olhivka, Ponyativka, Inzhenerne and Vesele (Kherson oblast).

On 17 April, the Ukrainian Air Force launched airstrikes on 8x concentrations of the russian invaders’ troops.


Ruslan Berehulia, Head of the Main Department of Mine Action, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety of the Ministry of Defence, reported that russian mines have killed 300 civilians in Ukraine and injured 667 others.

He added that Ukraine has created a deminer corps whose units will carry out humanitarian demining in the de-occupied territories. The project aims to create 1,000 demining teams consisting of up to 5,000 specialists. They will inspect potentially contaminated areas, clean up the area as part of the rapid response and carry out humanitarian demining activities.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that yesterday about 20 settlements in Kharkiv oblast suffered enemy artillery and mortar attacks: Synkivka, Petropavlivka, Kyslivka, Pishchane and others. Zolochiv, Vesele, Volokhivka, Hlushkivka, Kolisnykivka and Berestove were hit by airstrikes.

At 10:30pm, russians shelled Borova village of Izium region. An unidentified anti-aircraft missile hit the inactive administrative building of the enterprise and damaged the administrative buildings of the court, pension fund, library and private houses.

At 10:20pm, the invaders hit the central part of Zolochiv village of Bohodukhiv region by KAB bombs. Two private houses were damaged.

Two private houses in Kozacha Lopan village of Kharkiv region, were damaged as a result of shelling by MRLs at 9pm.

At 3pm, there was a shelling of Vovchansk. Three residential buildings and a car were damaged.

At 2pm, the invaders shelled Zolochiv of Bohodukhiv region by a guided aerial bomb. The building of Ukrposhta was hit. A 57-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man were taken to a medical facility with acupuncture injuries.

At 9:30am, a civilian building and a car were shelled in Kupiansk.

8 private houses, 5 cars, a garage and an outbuilding were damaged as a result of hostile shelling of FAB at 8:20am in Kolisnykivka village of Kupiansk region.

The enemy did not conduct any offensive towards Kupiansk yesterday.

Combined teams of bomb experts cleared 46.3 hectares of mines and destroyed 368 explosive ordnance.

The State Migration Service reported that a 16-year-old civilian, injured in an airstrike on Liptsy, has been issued an urgent passport in hospital. To save his eyesight, the boy needs to go abroad for treatment. The difficulty for Bohdan in applying for a passport is that his face and eyes are severely damaged, so it is impossible to take a proper photo for the passport.

The press service of the city council reported, following the results of the executive committee, that 10 apartment buildings were included in the list of facilities requiring urgent emergency repair work after the russian strikes.

The press service of regional police, quoting Chief Volodymyr Tymoshko, informed that in 2024, russians used more than 300 guided aerial bombs to strike Kharkiv oblast. According to them, russian troops shelled the oblast more than a thousand times this year: at least 60 missile strikes, 11 air strikes and 32 drone strikes were launched on Kharkiv during this time.

Donetsk oblast

Yesterday police recorded 1,505 russian attacks. Lyman, Chasiv Yar cities, Hostre, Niu-York, Ocheretyne settlements, Verkhnokamianske and Novoselydivka villages were under attack. 16 civilian objects were damaged, including 8 apartment buildings, a hospital, an administrative building, a shop, an outbuilding, a garage and vehicles.

Also russia attacked Lyman by three UMPB D-30 SM guided bombs and an FPV drone. Four private houses, a hospital, an administrative building, a shop, a garage and cars were destroyed. Preliminary reports indicate no casualties.

One person was killed and a private house damaged as a result of artillery shelling in Verkhnokamianske.

The invaders dropped an RBK-500 cluster bomb on Niu-York. The munition did not detonate but one private house was damaged.

The russian army has reduced its activity and attacked less towards Bakhmut, where the invaders are breaking through towards Chasiv Yar, Novopavlivka and Avdiivka. According to the General Staff, the Defence Forces repelled about 60 attacks in Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts over the day.

Serhii Horbunov, Acting Head of Kostiantynivka Military Administration, reported that a Memory Alley has been set up, where about 40 posters with portraits of fallen Ukrainian soldiers and police officers have already been placed.

Luhansk oblast

According to Luhansk Regional Military Administration, the enemy became active again in Serebrianka forest yesterday. All of their attempts to storm the area were stopped. Also russians launched an airstrike on Bilohorivka. They shelled Nevske by rocket artillery and mortars, Hrekivka by cannon artillery and Makiivka with mortars. The invaders used drones towards these three settlements.

Despite the danger, food and goods ordered by the locals last week were delivered to the liberated villages.

In mid-April, some miners in the so-called “lpr” started receiving their February salaries. The “ministry of fuel” says that each subsequent tranche will be paid only after the next batch of coal is sold.

Sievierodonetsk, Antratsyt and Luhansk will not only process garbage from the entire occupied Luhansk oblast and the western regions of russia but will also bury the imported waste. About 50% of the total volume of waste will be isolated. The invaders promise to destroy the environment around these cities by 2030.

The occupation administration is not trying to fight the forest fires around Sievierodonetsk. The invaders are carrying out the so-called “nationalisation” of housing even in rural areas. Employment in Sievierodonetsk is possible only after obtaining a russian passport and passing a medical examination at the military commissariat.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Kyiv RMA informed that 35 garbage trucks and 4 units of heavy equipment for solid waste collection and debris recycling were transferred to 12 communities of the oblast by international partners. The equipment was purchased within the framework of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine with funding from the Government of Japan and the European Union.

Students of the Lyceum of Foreign Languages, Gymnasium No. 9, in Bila Tserkva have two shelters. According to the city council, one shelter has been repaired at the expense of budget funds. The money for the reconstruction of the second shelter was donated by Spanish restaurateur and philanthropist Andres Torres, who raised €65,000 thanks to the support of concerned Spaniards. Now he has come to see the newly equipped storage facility.

The “place of silence” in memory of the fallen students and cadets will be arranged in the courtyard of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In the first phase, trees selected by specialists from KNU Botanical Garden will be planted in the heart of the Central Campus.

According to Kyiv Regional Military Administration, since the beginning of 2024, 2,200 IDPs have used the services of the Employment Center in Kyiv oblast. Citizens were employed immediately and after retraining. Some of them received business grants. 

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine reported that the Friendship of Peoples Arch in Kyiv was deprived of its monument status and, therefore, can be dismantled by the decision of Kyiv City Council. The arch is a symbol of russian imperial policy and is subject to complete removal – it was erected in 1982 to mark the 60th anniversary of the USSR formation and the anniversary of the October 1917 revolution.

Kyiv continues the process of the capital’s place name decolonization. According to Kyiv City Council, the street named after the russian-Soviet military pilot Grigory Oniskevich was renamed in honour of the Ukrainian poet and humorist Pavlo Glazovoy.

A gala presentation of the project and cartoon “Traveling Book. Cities”. The project tells the story of Ukraine’s resilient cities – Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Kyiv. The texts for each city tour were written by well-known writers, journalists and cultural figures from these cities in collaboration with the Books&Cartoons team. “Traveling Book. Cities” was created with the support of the USAID project. 

Zhytomyr oblast

Zhytomyr plans to upgrade its centralised air raid warning system, since the city currently uses equipment made in 1964 that cannot operate without electricity. The draft decision on the local automated centralised alert system was supported during  the city executive committee meeting. The modernization will be carried out gradually with the existing system remaining.

The regional centre sent aid to Zhytomyr battalions that are currently deployed in Zaporizhzhia sector. According to Zhytomyr Mayor Serhii Sukhomlyn, the 141st and 138th battalions received Autel and Mavic quadcopters. The plan is to deliver electronic warfare equipment and a mobile bathhouse to the defenders.

A partnership agreement between UNICEF and eleven territorial communities was signed in Zhytomyr oblast on 16 April at the Regional State Administration during the presentation of the UNICEF project “Family for Every Child: Development of Family Patronage”.

Sumy oblast

At night,  Bilopillia community shelled five times. As reported by the RMA, multi-apartment and private residential buildings, cars were damaged as a result of the shelling. The gas pipeline and power line were also damaged, leaving 746 consumers without electricity. One man was injured by shrapnel and taken to the hospital.

On 16 April, border territories and settlements of Sumy oblast were shelled 35 times. There were 218 strikes from various types of weapons. Myropillia, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Vorozhba, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Kroleve, Shalyhine, Esman, Shostkine, Seredyna-Buda, Znob-Novhorodske and Yampil community were shelled.

The Prosecutor’s Office of Sumy oblast reported that as a result of the KAB airstrike on the afternoon of 16 April, a man was injured on the civilian infrastructure of Yampil community. The property of two private enterprises was also damaged, in particular, industrial premises and a car.

Volodymyr Artiukh, Head of Sumy RMA, informs that since the beginning of 2024, 38 people have been killed in Sumy oblast, and about 100 injured, including 8 children. Also, 746 infrastructure objects were destroyed, namely private houses, communication and energy systems, administrative buildings, and kindergartens. More than 12,000 people were evacuated from the border.

Sumy City Military Administration reported that residents of Sumy will be able to use seven shelters in the city’s religious buildings during air raids. Two shelters will be operative around the clock, the rest – from 9am to 5pm. Currently, negotiations are ongoing so that, in the event of an emergency, they would also be open permanently.

Chernihiv oblast

In the morning, russian troops attacked Chernihiv by three Iskander cruise missiles. As a result of the impact, 17 people were killed, including 2 people dying in the hospital, 61 people injured, including 3 children. According to the State Emergency Service, 3 people were rescued from the rubble,  but people are probably still there. Search and rescue operations are ongoing.

The National Police reports that in Chernihiv, due to a russian terrorist attack on 17 April, a social infrastructure object, the central building of Chernihiv Polytechnic, a hospital, and 16 residential high-rise buildings in one of the city’s neighbourhoods were damaged by a direct hit. The police are conducting a door-to-door inspection of the damaged houses, helping the wounded. Psychologists work on site.

Liliia Buznytska, General Director of the institution, says that after the rocket attacks on Chernihiv in the morning of 17 April, the entire staff of the regional blood centre was called in, but after a few hours the reception was stopped – more donors came than they could receive.

On 16 April, the border area of Chernihiv oblast was shelled 12 times. As reported by the DPSU, there were 64 mortar and barrel artillery strikes. 4 communities of the region were under enemy fire: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Snovsk and Horodnia.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

The invaders shelled civilians in Nikopol region.

A 63-year-old woman was injured in the morning shelling of the district centre. She was provided with all necessary medical assistance. In total, 4 attacks were launched in the district during the evening and night. Also russian troops launched 2 kamikaze drones at Nikopol, shelled Myrove community by artillery late in the evening and in the morning they reached Nikopol. In the district centre, a gymnasium, 5 private houses, 3 outbuildings, a power line and fences were damaged.

An enemy UAV was shot down over Pavlohrad region by the East private military company.

There were 17 attacks on Nikopol region. The enemy launched 13 kamikaze drones and about 2.5 dozen artillery shells at the area.

Nikopol, Myrove, Marhanets, Pokrovsk and Chervonohryhorivka communities were hit. A hospital, infrastructure facilities, about two dozen private houses, outbuildings, 4 garages, 4 cars, a minibus, 2 greenhouses, 2 greenhouses, the same number of gas pipelines and a power line were damaged. The aggressor shelled Synelnykove region by rocket, destroying a private house and damaging 3 more. 4 outbuildings, 5 cars and a gas pipeline were damaged.

Vinnytsia oblast

City Council Head Serhii Morhunov reported that five Mavic 3Ts have been delivered to the soldiers of the 28th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after the Knights of the Winter Campaign.

Kirovohrad oblast

Two soldiers from Kirovohrad oblast were killed.

Yuriy Ivanitsky from Novomyrhorod community, born in 2001, was killed on 3 February, 2023, during a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.

Ivan Bilous from Ustynivka, born in 2001, was a rifleman and medic. He was killed on 12 April, 2024, while performing a combat mission near Novobakhmutivka, Donetsk oblast.

Poltava oblast

Kateryna Yamshchykova, Secretary of the City Council, informed that UAH 3.2m in one-time financial aid will be provided to residents of Suprunivka village in Poltava community who suffered from a rocket attack on 8 April.

Cherkasy oblast

Acts of receiving and transferring modular shelters to the ownership of the city’s territorial community to the balance of utility companies were approved. The City Council reported that Cherkasyteplocomunenerho, Parks Directorate, Blahoustrii and Cherkasyvodokanal will monitor the proper condition of the shelters and their accessibility during air raid alerts.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Yesterday the occupiers carried out 216 attacks on 8 settlements of Zaporizhzhia oblast. It is noted that the enemy conducted 2 airstrikes with guided aircraft bombs on Robotyne and Mala Tokmachka. 66 UAVs attacked Huliaipole, Levadne, Robotyne, Mala Tokmachka, Malynivka and Novoandriivka. There were 2 MLRS attacks on Levadne and Robotyne, and 146 artillery strikes on Huliaipole, Verbove, Mala Tokmachka, Novoandriivka, Robotyne, Levadne, Malynivka and Mali Shcherbaky. 6 reports of residential buildings destruction were received.

The “South” Operational Command reported that the occupiers carried out 4 assaults towards Orikhiv, 2 near Staromaiorske, 1 near Robotyne and 1 near Mala Tokmachka. They were unsuccessful.

Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration reported on the equipment provided in response to requests from the military. 11 units of the Armed Forces received, according to their requests, evacuation ATVs, a radio-controlled “car” for mine clearance, FPV drones, UAVs and charging stations.

Anton Yakymenko, pseudo-deputy of the so-called Yakymivka Regional Council of temporarily occupied Melitopol region, was injured as a result of an explosion. According to Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, Anton Yakymenko was dismissed from law enforcement agencies of Ukraine for corrupt activities. After the occupation of the region, he agreed to cooperate and contributed to the creation of the occupation authorities in the temporarily occupied territory of Melitopol.

Mykolaiv oblast

Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported in the morning briefing that occupiers continue to strike civilian infrastructure in Mykolaiv oblast. On 17 April at 12:56am, the enemy shelled the city of Ochakiv and the waters of Ochakiv community. Residential buildings were damaged, but there were no casualties. 

57 hectares of land in Mykolaiv oblast were littered with construction debris resulting from shelling and destruction as of the end of November 2023. Mykolaiv was among the six oblasts most polluted by demolition waste. Currently, some of this waste is stored in landfills, while the rest remains at the demolition sites. This pollution harms the environment of the region, contaminating water, soil, and air. Therefore, the issue of their professional disposal is extremely urgent.

Mykolaiv City Council informed that this year Mykolaiv expects to receive equipment for processing construction waste resulting from russian shelling. The city will receive a waste recycling machine and a loader under the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the rest of the equipment will come from the Japanese company JICA. 

Ten craftswomen from the Art Temptation public organisation have created a series of decorative panels to adorn the walls of military hospitals. In this way, female artists from Mykolaiv and the region have joined the All-Ukrainian charitable art campaign “Drawing of Hope,” organised by the Angels of the Unconquered NGO and the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Western Region. These creative women expressed support and gratitude through their artwork to our defenders undergoing treatment and rehabilitation after injuries.

Odesa oblast

The “South” Operational Command said that this morning, russian forces once again attacked Odesa oblast by ballistic missiles. The infrastructure of the oblast came under enemy attack. There is no information about casualties or damage. 

Kherson oblast

A resident of Zmiivka was injured due to a russian drone attack. The 29-year-old man suffered a hand injury and was taken to the hospital.

Yesterday the enemy shelled Antonivka, Prydniprovske, Zolota Balka and the city of Kherson. Additionally, the enemy launched airstrikes on Beryslav, Kozatske and Odradokamianka. 2 multi-story buildings, 11 private houses, a shop, pharmacy, telecommunication company, household services premises, agricultural structure, bread receiving enterprise, port infrastructure and a pig complex were damaged. Five people were injured due to russian aggression.

The enemy conducted 5 assaults towards the stronghold near Krynyky on the left bank of the Dnipro river, in the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson oblast. After suffering losses, they retreated to their original positions.

Yesterday the southern defence forces eliminated 104 occupiers and 9 pieces of weaponry and military equipment. One observation post was destroyed.

Communities in Kherson oblast received 41 units of heavy machinery as part of the UNDP Ukraine development program, with financial support from the Embassies of Japan and the European Union in Ukraine. This includes excavators, loaders, dump trucks, and bulldozers. The equipment will be distributed among communities affected by the russian terrorist attack on the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Station. The machinery will be used for clearing debris and processing rubble, transporting and collecting solid household waste.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk City Council reported that the community sent 5 Starlink satellite modems and their equipment, 5 EcoFlow Delta charging systems, 5 laptops, 8 Lenovo tablets, 2 Microtik access points, 5 portable, 3 Motorola car radios and 10 FPV drones to the A4355 military unit.

Zakarpattia oblast

The RMA held a meeting with Arad Benkyo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Austria in Ukraine. On the agenda are issues of cooperation between Zakarpattia and the federal states of the Republic of Austria within the framework of the work of the Congress of local and regional authorities, the functioning of enterprises with investments from foreign partners, and the development of economic potential in this direction.

Brigadier General Volodymyr Shvediuk, commander of the troops of the West operational command, is in Zakarpattia on a working visit, under whose leadership Zakarpattia units, together with other formations, are currently defending Ukraine from invaders. The RMA held a joint meeting involving all representatives of the defence and security sector of the oblast. A number of issues were also discussed in a closed format.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk City Council decided that 81 defenders will receive such payments in the amount of UAH 405,000. In 2024, assistance for 202 soldiers in the amount of UAH 934,000 was approved. In 2024 this payment was increased from UAH 3,000 to UAH 5,000. This payment is for persons who take a direct part in hostilities, do not have the status of a participant in hostilities and do not enjoy benefits for paying for housing and communal services.

Lviv oblast

Results of the All-Ukrainian architectural competition for the project of the Memorial complex of military burials of Heroes of Ukraine in Lviv were announced. Winners are Viktor Holubev and Dmytro Raifschneider, author team from Khmelnytskyi. Chosen among 27 proposals. The idea was presented to the advisory council, relatives of the fallen Heroes, representatives of the military brigades of Lviv oblast and the public. In addition to the burial area, there are plans to build a memorial square, a museum, a monument to the unknown soldier, a chapel and a columbarium – a place for burying urns with ashes. It is important to understand that the end of the competition does not mean that this project is final. This discussion was started in order to properly honour the fallen Defenders.

In Lviv oblast, Invincibility Centres are put into sleep mode. As of now, there are 864 such Centres that operate 24/7 or on a fixed schedule.

Velykolyubin community sent an unmanned aerial vehicle Kazhan-E630, 5 DJI MAVIC 3 quadcopters, 3 DJI MAVIC 3 Pro, 3 DJI MAVIC 3T, a DJI MAVIC 3 Enterprice, 2 EcoFlow River 2 Max charging stations, an EcoFlow Delta 2 charging station and a diesel generator worth UAH 2.5m thanks to the funds of the local budget.

Rivne oblast

The 2nd message this month from an anonymous person about the mining of the building of Rivne RMA and the Regional Council. Special services examined the premises. According to the protocol, the workers were evacuated. No explosive devices were found.

The 4th evacuation train from Donetsk oblast arrived in Rivne oblast. 24 people, including 5 children and 2 people with disabilities were arrived. Prior to this, the oblast had already accepted 127 people who settled in Rivne and Duben region. Directly at the station, evacuees received first aid and provided payments. One of the women had a seizure on the way. She was urgently dropped off in Kirovohrad oblast, where she gave birth to a boy.

Ternopil oblast

Ternopil scientists, together with the military, have developed a device that will help soldiers detect and neutralise enemy drones. From now on, such EW will serve as protection for the 105th Territorial Defense Brigade from Ternopil.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Khmelnytskyi City Council reported that the community sent wheels for various cars, as well as spare parts for trucks and cars worth UAH 1.2m to one of the divisions of the Defense Forces. The community expects the delivery of spare parts for another UAH 700,000. In general, for the year 2023 and the first months of 2024, almost UAH 38m have already been allocated for the repair of military equipment and cars, as well as the purchase of various spare parts for the Defense Forces.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA held a meeting with representatives of the Italian organisation Tree of Life (Fondazione Albero della Vita). They discussed possibilities of attracting help in creating safe conditions in general secondary education institutions.

Chernivtsi City Council reported that employees of Chernivtsi Trolleybus Administration company donated their one-day earnings to support the Armed Forces. 

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution calling for the transfer of russian state assets to Ukraine, which are currently frozen by a number of states. MEPs call on all countries where the russian federation has accounts to take the necessary measures to ensure the transfer of these assets for the restoration of Ukraine’s infrastructure. The Council of Europe, in particular, called for the creation of a new international compensation mechanism under its auspices. It is planned to place all the assets of the russian state in the international compensation fund based on the principles of transparency, accountability and fairness in the distribution of funds.

Canada will allocate $1.2bn for military aid to Ukraine. In the Canadian budget, it is planned to provide Ukraine with lethal and non-lethal weapons worth C$1.6bn for the next five years. Overall, the Canadian government plans to increase military spending to 1.76% of GDP by 2030.

Denmark allocated a new arms package to Ukraine for €295m. The funds will go to the development of the Ukrainian defence-industrial complex, specifically to strengthen the maritime potential, UAVs and missile production.

Lithuania allocated about €15m for the rehabilitation program of the Ukrainian military. The funds will be directed directly to the reconstruction of hospitals and the training of specialists.

Slovak activists raised €1m for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine. Officially, the Slovakian government refused to participate in the Czech initiative, within the framework of which a million ammunitions were already found, so the Nadační fond pro Ukrajinu organisation (the Eternal Fund for Ukraine) undertook the implementation of this company. Public organisations also joined it: OZ Mier Ukraine, Dárek pro putina, All4Ukraine, Donio. sk.

The Ukrainian side held another round of negotiations with Spain regarding the conclusion of a bilateral security agreement to implement the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine.

Capacity will be created in Ukraine for the production of components for small modular reactors. The corresponding agreement was signed by acting Petro Kotin, Chairman of the Board of Energoatom NAEC, and Chris Singh, President and CEO of Holtec International.

Ivan Vyhivskyi, Head of the National Police of Ukraine, reported that thanks to cooperation with law enforcement agencies of the Federal Republic of Germany in the direction of documenting war crimes of the russian federation, namely the deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children, the whereabouts of 161 Ukrainian children who were wanted as forcibly transferred to temporarily occupied territories or deported to russia and belarus were established in Germany.
