What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

On 15 January, there were 74 combat clashes on the frontline. 

Ryzhivka, Rohizne, Bezsalivka, Volfyne, Kucherivka, Iskryskivshchyna, Prohres, Shpyl in Sumy oblast suffered from russian artillery shelling.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, the enemy launched an air strike, dropping two guided bombs, and carried out 69 attacks, two of which were from multiple launch rocket systems. Ukrainian soldiers repelled one attack by the russian invaders.

Towards Southern Sloboda, there were five enemy attacks in the vicinity of the settlements of Vovchansk, Prylipka, Tykhe and towards the settlements of Izbitske, Krugle. Currently, one combat clash is ongoing.

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders twice, towards Pishchane and Kurylivka, and was repulsed.

Towards Lyman, there were five clashes. The enemy attacked in the vicinity of ​​the settlements of Zarichne, Novoselivka and towards the settlements of Lyman, Stavky. One battle is ongoing.

Towards Sloviansk, one clash took place in the vicinity of ​​Siversk.

Towards Kramatorsk, Ukrainian defenders repelled four attacks in the vicinity of Vasiukivka, Fedorivka and towards Pryvillya, Minkivka.

Towards Kostiantynivka, the defense forces stopped nine enemy attacks. The invader tried to advance in the areas of the settlements of Kostiantynivka, Ivanopillia, Rusyn Yar and towards Novopavlivka and Sofiivka. Four clashes are ongoing.

Towards Pokrovsk, russian troops tried to advance 26 times on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of the settlements of Nykanorivka, Myrnohrad, Pokrovsk, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, Filiia and towards the settlement of Rodynske. Ukrainian defenders repelled 22 attacks, four clashes are ongoing.

Towards Oleksandrivka, Ukrainian defenders repelled five enemy attacks near Vyshneve and towards the settlements of Ivanivka, Andriivka-Klevtsove, and Nove Zaporizhzhia.

Towards Huliaipole, Ukrainian soldiers repelled five attacks in the vicinty of Solodky, Huliaipole and towards Dobropillia, Olenokostiantynivka. Four more clashes are still ongoing. The enemy launched airstrikes on Rizdvianivka, Samiilivka, Horkome, and Vozdvizhivka.

Towards Orikhiv, there were three combat clashes near Stepnohirsk and Stepove. The battle is ongoing.

Towards Kherson, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.

In the remaining directions, there were no significant changes in the situation.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Russian occupiers in Donetsk and Luhansk regions are intensifying and expanding forced mobilization, which will continue continuously throughout the year.

The occupiers are establishing a system of commissions and setting their own rules, which are stricter than those in the Russian Federation, according to the National Resistance Center.

Kharkiv oblast

Southern Slobozhanskyi direction. Five Russian attacks took place in the areas of Vovchansk, Prylipka, Tykhe, and toward the settlements of Izbytske and Kruhle. As of 16:00, one combat engagement was ongoing.

Kupiansk direction. The occupiers launched two attacks on the positions of Ukrainian defenders toward Pishchane and Kurylivka but were repelled.

Servicemen of the 13th Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine “Khartiia” repelled an attempted Russian assault on the Lipetsk direction north of Kharkiv and destroyed about 70 Russian soldiers, the unit’s press service reported.

Russians are striking the suburbs of Kharkiv, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported. As of 14:56, no information had been received about casualties or fatalities as a result of the Russian attack on Kharkiv’s suburbs, said Head of the Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov. The consequences of the strikes are being assessed.

Over the past day, 132 combat engagements were recorded.

Southern Slobozhanskyi direction. Ukrainian forces stopped 14 enemy attacks in the areas of Vovchansk, Zelene, and toward the settlements of Hrafske, Vovchanski Khutory, and Kruhle.

Kupiansk direction. Yesterday, three attacks by the invaders took place toward Petropavlivka, Pishchane, and Borova.

For several days, the Russian army has been attempting to break through the border in Kharkiv Oblast within the area of responsibility of the “Hart” Brigade, the State Border Guard Service reported. According to its data, groups of Russian infantry are trying to enter frontline positions of border guards and move deeper inland.

These breakthrough attempts were blocked. Russia lost 21 occupiers killed and 11 wounded.

In the evening of January 15, Russian forces struck Oskil and Studenok in Izium District. In Studenok, a local woman was injured. In both cases, the strikes hit residential areas, said community head Hennadii Zahoruiyko. The consequences are being assessed.

Russia destroyed a large critical energy infrastructure facility, Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported. The emergency response штаб is operating 24/7, with emergency services and specialized experts working on site.

In the Slobidskyi District, a drone strike was recorded; the type of UAV is being identified, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said. Information is being clarified.

Over the past day, eight settlements in Kharkiv Oblast came under enemy attack.

Medics provided assistance to a 51-year-old man who was injured on January 12 as a result of shelling in the village of Novoosynove, Kurylivka community.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons against Kharkiv Oblast:

  • 7 Geran-2 type UAVs;

  • 1 Lancet UAV;

  • 1 Molniia UAV;

  • 3 FPV drones;

  • 4 UAVs (type being identified).

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:

  • in Bohodukhiv District, a household fence was damaged (Zolochiv settlement);

  • in Kupiansk District, a vehicle (Nova Oleksandrivka village) and a private house (Velykyi Burluk settlement) were damaged;

  • in Izium District, a building and a motor scooter were damaged (Buhaivka village);

  • in Lozova District, railway infrastructure was damaged (Lozova city, Orilka village) and power grids were damaged (Blyzniuky settlement);

  • in Chuhuiv District, a vehicle was damaged (Buhaivka village).

As a result of a strike on a Nova Poshta terminal near Kharkiv, 230 kilograms of animal feed intended for stray animals from frontline areas were destroyed. Additionally, 100 doses of antiparasitic medications were destroyed. Nova Poshta confirmed that the entire shipment of aid was destroyed.

More than 22 hectares of territory in Kharkiv Oblast were demined over the past week. A total of 953 explosive devices were neutralized.

The transit evacuation point in Lozova received 63 people over the past day. In total, since the start of operations, 16,636 people have been registered at the center.

Donetsk oblast

Over the past day, the russian army carried out 15 assault attempts near Kostiantynivka. Defense Forces repelled attacks near Oleksandro-Shultyne, Pleshchiivka, Ivanopillia, Shcherbynivka, and toward Sofiivka, Novopavlivka, and Torske, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.

In the Pokrovsk sector, 25 combat engagements were recorded over the day. Ukrainian troops repelled more than ten assaults in the Oleksandrivka and Lyman directions.

Operators of the special unit Lasar’s Group destroyed a russian BM-21 “Grad” multiple launch rocket system in Donetsk Oblast. The system, valued at approximately USD 500,000, was hit by aerial drops from a heavy bomber drone, the unit reported.

In the Pokrovsk area, Russian forces are actively using Molniia UAVs, which are currently being deployed in large numbers. The occupiers are attempting to break through Ukrainian defenses and advance into Hrishene, as well as occupy the northern part of Pokrovsk, said Danylo Borysenko, head of reconnaissance of the air defense battalion of the “Rubizh” Brigade.

Ukrainian forces control all routes toward the village of Dronivka in northern Donetsk Oblast, preventing the occupiers from assaulting it with heavy armored vehicles.

Russian troops are attempting to infiltrate the settlement with infantry and to cross the Siverskyi Donets River, said Roman Hrytseniuk, commander of a strike drone platoon of the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade.

At noon, Russian forces struck the Kramatorsk community with a FAB-250 aerial bomb. The strike hit an industrial area, damaging a private house. No information about casualties has been reported, according to the Kramatorsk City Military Administration.

Over the course of January 14, police recorded 1,666 enemy attacks along the frontline and against residential areas.

Ten settlements came under fire: the cities of Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Sloviansk; the settlements of Donetske, Malotaranivka, Oleksandrivka; and the villages of Bohorodychne, Hannivka, and Maiaky.

russia struck Sloviansk with two Geran-2 UAVs — one person was injured, and three apartment buildings, two private houses, and a civilian vehicle were damaged.

In Kostiantynivka, a civilian was injured as a result of an FPV drone strike.

In Oleksandrivka, Russian forces shelled the area with a Tornado-S multiple launch rocket system — two civilians were wounded, and 23 private houses and seven vehicles were damaged.

In Donetske, one person was injured, and a civilian vehicle was damaged.

In Druzhkivka, enemy FPV drones damaged two civilian vehicles.

In Malotaranivka, the enemy struck with a Tornado-S MLRS — seven private homes were damaged.

In Maiaky, a Molniia-2 UAV hit a private household.

Luhansk oblast

Over the past day, the occupiers carried out seven mortar attacks. In four cases, they used automatic grenade launchers. Ukrainian defensive fortifications were also targeted with six UAVs and FPV drones.

In the Lyman and Sloviansk sectors of the front, Russian forces attempted 18 assaults. Ten settlements were affected by hostilities.

The Russian fuel and energy company Rodina, which in 2024 announced plans to invest in the coal industry of occupied Luhansk Oblast, reported a lack of funds to pay wages. According to the company, ways to repay months-long wage arrears to miners have begun to be discussed together with the occupation administration of the region. In practice, this means that employees are unlikely to receive their pay for the past year in the near future. The Rodina fuel and energy complex includes the Bilorichenska mine and coal preparation plant, two repair and mechanical facilities in Antratsyt and Dovzhansk, as well as a freight transport unit and a vehicle depot in Rovenky.

In Sievierodonetsk and Rubizhne, the occupiers have abandoned the so-called humane model of regulating the population of stray animals. After unsuccessful appeals to residents not to feed dogs and cats, the occupiers called on people to report locations where animals gather. According to local residents, after receiving such information, the animals are taken outside populated areas, where they are shot by Russian military personnel.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

Debris from a Russian drone fell onto a residential building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi District. The incident occurred on the morning of January 15 during a Russian attack, the Kyiv State Emergency Service reported. Damage to the building’s wall was recorded at the level of the technical floor.

As a result of a nighttime Russian attack on January 15, eight private houses and one vehicle were damaged in Bucha District of Kyiv Oblast, said the Head of the Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk. Windows were shattered, and facades and roofs were damaged. No casualties were reported.

On January 14, from 07:00 to 17:00, Russian forces intensified aerial attacks toward Kyiv, using jet-powered UAVs. Air defense forces shot down all ten jet drones, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. Aircraft were also involved in destroying the UAVs.

A 24/7 emergency headquarters has been established in Kyiv to deal with the consequences of Russian attacks on energy facilities, the Ministry of Energy reported. The most difficult situation with power supply is currently in the capital and the surrounding region. Network restrictions are in place, which is why previously introduced hourly outage schedules are temporarily not being applied.

Five cogeneration units for producing heat and electricity have been installed in Kyiv. Two mini combined heat and power plants are already operational, while commissioning works are ongoing at three others, the Kyiv City State Administration reported.

In Kyiv Oblast, 448 Points of Invincibility are operating, where people can warm up, recover, and stay connected, the Regional Military Administration reported. In addition, mobile Points of Invincibility based on railway carriages provided by Ukrzaliznytsia are operating. In Brovary and Boryspil, Points of Invincibility deployed by the State Emergency Service are also functioning.

Zhytomyr oblast

On the night of January 15, Russian forces struck critical infrastructure facilities in Zhytomyr and Korosten districts of the oblast, reported the Head of the Zhytomyr Regional Military Administration, Vitalii Bunechko. As a result of the attack, electricity supply is absent in the Ovruch community.

Due to Russian shelling on the night of January 15, a fire broke out at a critical infrastructure facility. It was extinguished by rescue services, the State Emergency Service reported. Continuous air raid alerts complicated firefighting efforts.

As a result of enemy attacks, seven boiler houses in Zhytomyr were left without power. Some of them were promptly connected to generators, Zhytomyrteplokomunenerho reported. This helped avoid draining heating systems from residential buildings.

In Zhytomyr Oblast, following the latest Russian attacks, 118 settlements were left without electricity, and nearly 29,000 people are currently without power, according to Zhytomyroblenergo.

Sumy oblast

The Regional Military Administration reported that at around 10:15am on 15 January, russian forces struck the central part of Bilopillia city by two guided aerial bombs. As a result of the attack, a 35-year-old local resident was killed and nine people were injured. A building of an educational institution, a shop and vehicles were damaged. The city is experiencing problems with electricity and heat supply.

Volodymyr Viduiev, Deputy Head of Bilopillia community, said that at around 9am on 15 January, russian forces struck Novi Vyrky of Bilopillia community by a guided aerial bomb. A man born in 1979 was injured. As a result of the attack, 15 houses were damaged.

Mykola Sachenko, Sumy community elder, informed that on the morning of 15 January, a UAV attacked Verkhnie Pishchane of Sumy community. The drone fell near the entrance to a shop, damaging the façade and equipment.

According to Sumy branch of Gazmerezhi, russian forces attacked one of the gas distribution facilities in Seredyna-Buda. As a result, nearly 2,500 customers were left without gas supply.

The Regional Military Administration reported that during the night, the enemy attacked Putyvl community by two UAVs. As a result of a strike on a residential building, a family was affected. Four underage children suffered acute stress reactions and sustained minor bodily injuries. The children received the necessary medical assistance on site.

The National Police informed that in Sumy oblast, as of the morning of 15 January, seven people were injured as a result of russian attacks, including four children. Houses, vehicles and petrol station premises were also damaged. In Sumy community, two people were injured — a 21-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman; in Krasnopillia community, a 58-year-old man was injured; in Putyvl community, four children were injured — girls aged 6, 15 and 17, and a 13-year-old boy.

Over the course of the day, from the morning of 14 January to the morning of 15 January, russian forces carried out nearly 60 shelling attacks on 35 settlements across 14 territorial communities in the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Over the day, the air raid alert in the oblast lasted for 9 hours and 39 minutes.

Civilian infrastructure was damaged or destroyed:

  • In Sumy community, private residential houses, an outbuilding, vehicles and non-residential premises were damaged;
  • In Mykolaivka rural community, private residential houses and a vehicle were damaged;
  • In Seredyna-Buda community, residential houses and outbuildings were destroyed, while an administrative building, a private residential house and an outbuilding were damaged;
  • In Shostka community, a social facility was destroyed, and residential houses, a civilian infrastructure facility and a non-residential building were damaged;
  • In Putyvl community, a private residential house, vehicles and motorcycles were damaged.

Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and public organisations, evacuated five people from border communities.

Chernihiv oblast

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Military Administration, reported that during the daytime on 15 January, russian forces struck a private household in Khotiivka village of Semenivka community in the border area of Chernihiv oblast by a strike UAV. As a result of the hit, a 59-year-old local resident was injured. The injured man was taken to a medical facility with a closed craniocerebral injury and massive haemotransfusion syndrome.

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, said that on the evening of 14 January, russian forces struck a village in Kiptivska community by a Shahed UAV. As a result, a 72-year-old woman was injured. The woman was hospitalised. A residential house was damaged.

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that over the course of 14 January, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out one strike by a Molniya-type UAV and eight FPV drone strikes. Semenivka town and seven villages came under enemy fire.

According to Chernihiv Regional Hospital, on 10 January, one of the women injured as a result of a russian drone strike on a five-storey residential building in Chernihiv on 25 December 2025 died in hospital. She was 86 years old. Doctors managed to stabilise her condition after the injuries, but due to her age and underlying illnesses, her life could not be saved.

In Chernihiv, the “12–21” youth space has begun operating — the third in the network developed by Olena Zelenska Foundation. The space is designed for adolescents and young people aged 12 to 21 and combines leisure activities, peer-to-peer communication and professional psychosocial support.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk RMA, reported that as a result of a UAV attack on Novopillia community, a fire broke out and infrastructure facilities were damaged. During the night, the occupiers shelled Nikopol by artillery. 3 private houses, an outbuilding, a garage, a gas pipeline and power lines were damaged.

The enemy attacked the regional centre, Marhanets, Pokrovske and Chervonohryhorivka communities by drones and artillery. 3 civilians were injured: a 46-year-old woman, a 15-year-old girl and a 53-year-old man. 6 high-rise buildings, enterprises, 11 private houses, outbuildings, a medical facility, an administrative building, a shop, vehicles, power lines and a gas pipeline were damaged. As a result of a UAV attack in Kryvyi Rih, a fire broke out and infrastructure facilities were damaged.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Oleksandriia city, residents paid tribute to defender Volodymyr Nizhnichenko. He was killed in September in Donetsk oblast and had been considered missing in action since then.

Poltava oblast

In Poltava oblast, 33 communities received high-capacity generators. The equipment was provided as humanitarian assistance funded by the Government of Taiwan and will be used to support critical infrastructure, including municipal services and the education sector.

Cherkasy oblast

In Talne community, a memorial ceremony was held for Anatolii Mantul, a defender killed in the russian–Ukrainian war. He had been considered missing in action for more than a year and a half.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 14 January, the Defence Forces of Ukraine repelled 33 russian attacks in Huliaipole, Orikhiv and Oleksandrivske regions. In particular, combat engagements took place in the areas of Huliaipole and Prymorske, towards Dobropillia, Zelene, Sviatopetrivka, Pavlivka and Nove Zaporizhzhia.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that on 14 January, the russian military carried out more than 870 strikes on 27 cities and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. One person was killed and 6 injured as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia and Polohy regions. In particular, artillery shelling was recorded 393 times in Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Orikhiv, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Bilohiria, Shcherbaky, Mali Shcherbaky, Dorozhnianka, Varvarivka, Zelene and Solodke.

Mykolaiv oblast

Based on the information provided by Mykolaiv RMA, on the morning of 15 January, the Russian army struck the outskirts of Mykolaiv.

The russian forces attacked Ochakiv and Kutsurub communities 7 times by FPV drones. There were no casualties reported.

Odesa oblast

Referring to the RMA, the russian forces struck the port infrastructure of Chornomorsk by a ballistic missile, targeting a berth where a civilian ship flying the flag of Malta was located. Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister, added that 1 crew member was injured. The ship was preparing to transport containerised cargo. As a result of the strike, 3 containers were damaged and an oil spill occurred. Boom barriers are being installed to localise the consequences.

Oleh Kiper, Head of the Regional Military Administration, reported that as a result of a nighttime russian attack on Odesa oblast, civilian infrastructure was damaged in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi region and one person was injured. 2 single-storey administrative buildings were destroyed, followed by a fire, which was promptly extinguished. A security guard was injured and received medical assistance on site.

The Regional Military Administration reported that on the night of 15 January, in Odesa oblast, a serviceman from a mobile fire group of the Odesa Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade destroyed a Shahed-type attack UAV.

Kherson oblast

According to Kherson RMA, at approximately 3:40pm, occupying forces attacked a civilian vehicle by a drone in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson. As a result of the enemy strike, a 54-year-old man sustained shrapnel wounds to his leg, blast and open traumatic brain injuries. An ambulance crew transported the injured man to hospital in critical condition.

Over the past day, 1 person was killed as a result of russian aggression. Antonivka, Molodizhne, Prydniprovske, Komyshany, Bilozirka, Stanislav, Sofiivka, Oleksandrivka, Shyroka Balka, Dniprovske, Blahovishchenske, Kizomys, Ivanivka, Novotiahynka, Tokarivka, Beryslav, Dudchany, Novoraisk, Burhunka, Monastyrske, Novokairy, Osokorivka, Urozhayne, Chervonyi Maiak, Vesele and Kherson city were subjected to enemy drone terror, air strikes and artillery shelling. The russian forces targeted critical and social infrastructure and residential areas across the oblast, damaging 3 high-rise buildings and 8 private houses. A shop was damaged.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Serhii Hordievich, winner of the Games of the Unconquered-2025, resident of Novovolynsk, received a state award the III degree Order of Merit by Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine.

Zakarpattia oblast

A team from the Ministry of Digital Affairs is on a working visit to the oblast. The focus is on the stability of mobile communications, the preparedness of networks for power outages, and the quality of coverage in the oblast.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

At the city cemetery, Bishop Volodymyr Viityshyn consecrated the restored memorial chapel of Saints Sava and Barbara of the UGCC. Together with families of the fallen defenders, they prayed a memorial service for all the fallen Heroes and united in a “quiet carol.”

Lviv oblast

On the night of 15 January 2026, the occupiers attacked a children’s playground on Stepana Bandera Street in Lviv with a combat drone. Utility workers who were clearing snow nearby were not injured. Windows were broken in nearby residential buildings, as well as in the building of the Lviv Polytechnic, a school, and a college. Stained glass windows were damaged in the architectural monument – the Church of Olga and Elizabeth. Due to the attack, there are temporary changes in the flow of transport in Lviv.

Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic, is in Lviv on a working visit. In the RMA, the consequences of the enemy attack that Lviv experienced and further security cooperation were discussed.

The RMA reported that Mykhailo Stasula, defender from Lviv oblast, was awarded with the For Wounds.

Rivne oblast

The RMA reported that Oleksandr Budko (Teren) received the III degree Order of Merit.

Ternopil oblast

14 servicemen from Ternopil will receive UAH 15,000 for treatment and rehabilitation. In 2025, 622 servicemen from Ternopil received such assistance.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

The RMA reported that soldier Viktor Uzhytskyi received the For Military Service to Ukraine medal.

Chernivtsi oblast

The RMA reported that last year, Kelmenets community allocated UAH 4.5m for the needs of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

As part of the RADAROM! campaign, Lithuanians raised €5.74m for the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The defenders received drones from Lithuanian and Ukrainian manufacturers for this amount. This was reported by the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT, which organized the collection together with Blue/Yellow.

Pawel Zalewski, Polish Deputy Defense Minister, stated that Poland will send up to nine of its MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. Technical negotiations on this are still ongoing. Asked whether Ukraine had agreed to accept Poland’s offer, Zalewski said Kyiv had agreed. In exchange for the planes, Poland wants access to Ukraine’s missile technology.
