War in Ukraine today: latest news, 11 November, 2024 (photo)

It has been the 992th day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 4 pm:   

Since the beginning of the day, 125 combat engagements have taken place in the frontline. Our defenders are stopping the enemy, holding the line and destroying the russians’ plans.  

During the day, the enemy fired artillery shells at Riasne, Basivka, Novodmytrivka, Pokrovka, Pavlivka, Oleksandria, Kamianetska Sloboda, Bilovody, Myropillia, Dmytrivka in Sumy oblast; Tymofiivka in Kharkiv oblast.  

Towards Kupiansk, the enemy made one attempt to advance towards our positions near Kindrashivka during the day, the attack was successfully repelled and the situation is under control.  

Towards Lyman, there were seven combat engagements near Hrekivka, Nevske, Terny and Serebrianka. One firefight is still ongoing.  

Towards Siversk, the enemy conducted one offensive in the area of Vyimka and launched six air strikes with guided aerial bombs near Zakitne and Siversk.  

Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy launched strikes using bomber and attack aircraft near Chasiv Yar, Novomarkove and Kramatorsk, and our defenders repelled one attack near Chasiv Yar.  

In the Toretsk sector, the invaders attacked four times in the areas of Toretsk and Shcherbynivka. All attacks were successfully repelled by our defenders. The enemy dropped 13 unguided aerial vehicles on the settlements of Toretsk, Katerynivka, Petrivka and Kostiantynivka, and launched nine attacks with unguided aerial vehicles on the settlement of Druzhba.  

The enemy is still highly active towards Pokrovsk. Fourteen times today, clashes of varying intensity started. Fighting is ongoing near Selydove. Thirteen attacks were repelled near Myroliubivka, Promen, Hryhorivka and Lysivka.  

The situation remains difficult towards Kurakhove. Eight attacks were repelled near Illinka, Novoselidivka, Vozdvyzhenka, Voznesenka, Novodmytrivka, Maksymilianivka, Dalne, Antonivka, Katerynivka and Kurakhove, and our defenders are steadfastly fighting another thirteen engagements.

Towards Vremivka, the aggressor attacked 11 times near Trudove, Makarivka, Novodarivka, Rivne and Zelenyi Pole.

Towards Huliaipole and Kherson, the enemy did not conduct any active operations.

Our defenders successfully repelled one russian attack towards Orikhiv.

Ukrainian troops are depleting the enemy along the entire frontline and in the rear.


The government has confirmed the existence of the Unmanned Systems Forces. Ukraine is the first country in the world to complete its manning.  The government has allocated UAH 24bn for the purchase of drones for this type of troops. The state has already contracted 1 million drones and 500 Ukrainian companies are already producing UAVs.

A forced evacuation of adults was announced in 10 settlements in Kharkiv oblast. Residents of Borova village are subject to evacuation. The community borders on Kupiansk region of Kharkiv oblast, where the most active fighting is taking place, and on Lyman community of Donetsk oblast, in the north.

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

The General Staff said that towards Toretsk, Ukrainian defence forces stopped 16 russian attacks yesterday and became more active towards Vremivka.

Towards Toretsk, russian troops attacked 16 times near Toretsk and Shcherbynivka.

Towards Vremivka, russian troops attacked 13 times near Trudove, Kostiantynopilske, Uspenivka and Makarivka. It actively used attack and bomber aircraft to attack the area.

Kharkiv oblast

Yesterday the russian military, in violation of the laws and customs of war, used guided aerial bombs, FPV drones, MRLs and UAVs against civilians. The police documented further crimes of the russian federation.

At 2:40am, russia attacked Prykolotne village, the type of weapon being established. A non-residential building was damaged.

Yesterday russia attacked Chuhuiv from 12:34am to 2:40am using a Shahed UAV. An apartment building and 9 cars were damaged. 5 civilians were injured.

At 8:20am, russia attacked Kolisnykivka village, the type of weapon is being established. A civilian man and a woman were injured.

At 9:20am, russia attacked Kharkiv with a KAB. It hit the ground. There were no casualties.

At 9:27am, russia attacked Vilkhuvatka village, the type of weapon is being established. A non-residential building was damaged.

At 10:45am, russia attacked Kupiansk, using Uragan MRLs. Nine private houses were damaged and a civilian woman injured.

At 2pm, the russian army launched an FPV drone. The building of an agricultural enterprise was damaged.

At 2:30 pm, the russian army launched an FPV drone.  A car was damaged.

At least 51 people were injured in Kharkiv and the oblast during the week as a result of russian shelling. Four people were killed in the shelling of Kupiansk region between 4 and 10 November. It was also reported that two children were injured by an explosive device in Barvinkove community.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russian troops, Kharkiv investigators have registered nearly 22270 crimes related to russia’s armed aggression in Kharkiv oblast.

As of the morning, there was a firefight near Vovchansk. The Armed Forces of Ukraine repelled five enemy attacks near Starytsia and Vovchansk. The enemy used aviation and launched three air attacks, dropping four UAVs in the areas of Kharkiv, Vilcha and Vilkhuvatka.

The enemy made three attacks on our fortifications towards Kupiansk. By now, all of them in the areas of Kindrashivka, Zahryzove and Zelenyi Hai have been repelled.

Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Regional Military Administration, said that the entire population of 10 settlements, including Borova, was evacuated.

30 people have been evacuated from Kupiansk and Borova directions. Since 10 September, more than 5,300 residents of Kupiansk axis, including 251 children, and 1,181 residents of villages and towns in Borova axis, including 137 children, have been evacuated to safe places.

Kharkiv RMA has provided 2,000 beds for evacuees in temporary accommodation centres. If necessary, the number of beds will be increased promptly. So far, we have accommodated 1,014 IDPs in hostels.

Donetsk oblast

At around 4:35am, russia struck Kramatorsk with three UMPB D-30SN bombs. According to police, a 68-year-old woman was injured. At least 30 private houses and 9 cars were damaged.  Police and all rescue services are working at the scene.

Yesterday two people were killed and two were injured as a result of russian shelling in Donetsk oblast. Yesterday police recorded 3,221 hostile attacks on the frontline and residential areas.

Also russian troops attacked 6 settlements: Kostiantynivka, Kurakhove, Mykolaivka, Myrnohrad, Sloviansk and Shevchenko village.

91 civilian objects, including 13 residential buildings, were damaged.

The russians dropped five UMPB D-30SN bombs on Mykolaivka, killing one civilian and injuring another. Six private houses and an infrastructure facility were damaged.

An enemy drone hit a civilian car on the outskirts of Shevchenko village, killing a civilian.

A man was injured in Kurakhove as a result of a bomb attack and an apartment building was damaged.

The invaders shelled Kostiantynivka with S-300 and artillery, damaging 4 private houses, a business, critical infrastructure facilities, 46 private garages and civilian cars.

The enemy attacked Myrnohrad with a FAB-250 bomb with an UMPK module, damaging 2 apartment buildings, a utility company and equipment, an administrative building, a garage and 5 cars.

The CMA reported that a resident of Pokrovsk suffered burns in a fire caused by shelling on 10 November. In the afternoon, a fire broke out in the private sector of the city centre and as a result, a three-storey house and outbuildings caught fire.

Also yesterday, the road near Shevchenko village was shelled once again.

Petro Andriushchenko, Mariupol Mayor’s Councillor, informed that the russian occupiers are loading a bulk carrier with coal in the port. The coal was brought to the port by a train that came from Luhansk oblast. The theft of Ukraine’s subsoil continues: the heating season has started in russia, unlike in Mariupol.

Andriushchenko said that in the morning the occupiers transported either a radar system or a part of an air defence radar damaged on the night of 10 November through Mariupol.

Luhansk oblast

The Armed Forces repelled russian offensives towards Lyman and Siversk, where the occupiers attacked seven times. According to the RMA, the fighting took place near Hrekivka. The enemy is firing at the positions of Ukrainian soldiers and the surrounding villages with all available weapons. Thus, the enemy attacked Makiivka and Balka Zhuravka with artillery systems. They used 40 UAVs in the area. Of these, 31 were near Makiivka.

The kremlin has calculated the amount of subventions that can be allocated to the so-called “luhansk people’s republic” for housing reconstruction next year. Due to numerous checks on suspicions of embezzlement, this time, not much money was allocated. The “ministry of construction and housing and communal services of the lpr” calculated that they would be enough to repair 117 roofs and three foundations. There is no talk of financing major repairs to destroyed and damaged housing.

No centralised heating is expected in the old districts of Siverskodonetsk this year. They promise to switch it on when the utilities are repaired and a new boiler house is built. The work is expected to start in the new year. The invaders seem to have no intention of restoring the local CHP plant.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

The RMA reported that the enemy attacked Kyiv oblast with drones at night. There were no hits on critical or residential infrastructure. There were no civilian casualties. In two regions, several grass fires started as a result of falling debris. All the fires have been extinguished.

Kyiv City Military Administration reported that in the morning, emergency power cuts were introduced in the capital due to the threat of a missile attack.

Kyiv City Military Administration informed that the number of trains in Kyiv metro is gradually increasing after the morning air raid alert was cancelled. It was noted that due to prolonged night air raids, subway specialists placed part of the rolling stock in the tunnels in advance. Trains were delivered from the electric depot to the most crowded stations.

EU High Representative Josep Borrell was forced to take cover when russia launched another missile attack on Ukraine. He shared a photo on social network X of himself standing outside a shelter in the morning during the alert in Kyiv.

Mykola Kalashnyk, Head of Darnytsia District State Administration, announced that the SafeWomenHUB Women’s Mental Health Centre had been launched in Darnytskyi district of the capital. The facility was opened with extra-budgetary funds to support women and girls who have suffered from the war or found themselves in difficult life circumstances.

An interactive safety event was held in Brovary for children from the Children’s Villages social care centre. The rescuers engaged specialists from the State Emergency Service, police and Red Cross volunteers to teach children and adults how to act in emergency situations. Among other things, the attendees were invited to the Mobile Safety Classroom, where interactive lessons on explosive devices and fire safety rules were held.

The CrossFest Autumn multisport competition was held in Kyiv’s Muromets Park. The charity event was also attended by military personnel undergoing rehabilitation. Half of the proceeds from the sporting event will be used for the needs of the 214th separate special OPFOR battalion.

Zhytomyr oblast

Mayor Serhii Orliuk said that in Berdychiv, 7 out of 14 boiler houses will be equipped with cogeneration units. Two of them have already been delivered from the German city of Konstanz, and the city will receive five more from USAID. In addition, 2.8m kW of electricity was saved by replacing equipment at the water utility in 2022-2024. All Berdychiv utilities are equipped with generators.

The State Emergency Service of Zhytomyr oblast reported that a new safety class was opened at Yahniatyn Lyceum in Berdychiv district. The opening was attended by rescuers, police officers, representatives of local authorities and educators. This will provide more opportunities for students to learn and master the rules of safety during the war.

Zhytomyr City Council reported that on 9 November, representatives of Zhytomyr Women’s Union NGO planted trees in memory of the fallen defenders of Ukraine near the Monument of Glory. The event was attended by families of the fallen soldiers.

Sumy oblast

During night and morning, russians carried out 13 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 13 explosions. The attacks targeted Khotin, Yunakivka, Richky, Berezivka, Hlukhiv and Znob-Novhorod communities.

On 10 November, russians carried out 105 shelling attacks on border areas and settlements in Sumy oblast, resulting in 257 explosions. The attacks targeted Sumy, Mykolaivka, Khotin, Yunakivka, Bilopillia, Krasnopillia, Velyka Pysarivka, Shalyhyne, Esman, Seredyna-Buda, Svesa and Znob-Novhorod communities.

Khotin community: the enemy fired by artillery (9 explosions), mortars (6 explosions), FPV-drone (6 explosions), KABs (3 explosions), dropped VOG from an unmanned aerial vehicle (4 explosions). As a result of shelling, a private residential building was damaged.

Yunakivka community: the russians struck by artillery (39 explosions), carried out a tank attack (1 explosion), airstrikes by GAB (9 explosions).

Bilopillia community: mortar shelling (34 explosions), VOG dropping from UAVs (5 explosions), FPV-drones attack (2 explosions), attacks by MLPS (2 explosions), artillery shelling (35 explosions).

Krasnopillia community: the enemy dropped 16 mines on the territory of the community. There were also VOG drops from UAVs (17 explosions), an FPV-drone strike (5 explosions), artillery fire (7 explosions).

Esman community: strikes by FPV-drones (3 explosions), mortar shelling (3 explosions).

Seredyna-Buda community: there was mortar shelling (15 explosions), VOG dropping from UAVs (2 explosions), FPV-drone strikes (2 explosions).

Mykolaivka rural community: a KAB attack (6 explosions).

Sumy community: an airstrike by KAB was carried out (1 explosion). As a result of shelling, a private residential building was damaged.

Velyka Pysarivka community: the russians dropped 4 mines on the territory of the community. There was also rocket fire (NURS) (6 explosions).

Znob-Novhorod community: there was an FPV-drone attack (1 explosion), artillery fire (5 explosions).

Svesa community: the enemy attacked the territory of the community. As a result of shelling, 1 civilian was killed and 1 civilian was injured.

Shalyhyne community: there were VOG resets from UAVs (4 explosions), an FPV-drone strike (3 explosions).

Yurii Lysenko, Head of Stetsivka, reported that in one of the settlements of Stetsivka starosta region, efforts are underway to address the aftermath of a russian guided bomb (GAB) strike on Sunday, 10 November. The strike shattered windows in seven houses and damaged the roof of one. Volunteers from the charitable organisation Caritas – Sumy provided residents of the affected homes with building materials this morning to help cover the damaged areas.

Chernihiv oblast

Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reported that on the night of 10-11 November, debris from a russian Shahed strike drone fell in Chernihiv oblast. The debris landed on the outskirts of one of the villages, damaging several households. According to preliminary information, no injuries were reported as a result of the debris fall.

Throughout the day, the russian army attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast. The enemy used FPV-drones, dropped UAVs, and  reactive artillery. 

Novhorod-Siverskyi community:

– 29 explosions (hits, probably by Grad MLRs) in the area of Mykhalchyna Sloboda,

– 2 explosions (hits, by FPV-drone) in the area of Hai.

Semenivka community:

– 4 explosions (hit, probably dropping an explosive device from an unmanned aerial vehicle) towards Leonivka.

Horodnia community:

– 1 explosion (hit, likely drop of an explosive device from an unmanned aerial vehicle) in the area of  Senkivka

No casualties or injuries among the local population were reported as a result of the shelling.

High Representative of the EU, Josep Borrell, visited Yahidne village in Chernihiv oblast during his visit to Ukraine. Borrell shared the visit on his social media, calling it a horrifying reminder of the realities faced by ordinary Ukrainians under russian occupation. In Yahidne, during the occupation from 3 March to 30 March, 2022, russian forces detained over 360 civilians, including children, in a school basement without access to food or water.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

The night was loud as air defence forces engaged enemy targets. 

A ballistic strike hit a residential building in Kryvyi Rih, impacting a 5-story building. Emergency services are on-site, and initial reports confirm injuries. 

The russian shelling also targeted Nikopol, killing civilians. The region was struck approximately 15 times by artillery, kamikaze drones and drones dropping explosives. In the regional centre, a 30-year-old man and a woman were killed and 5 injured. A 26-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man are hospitalised in critical condition. Medical care is being provided to all affected.

Marhanets community also suffered damage, with 3 apartment buildings, a clinic, 2 educational institutions, stores, a business, a cafe, a bank and vehicles damaged.

In Kryvyi Rih, updated reports indicate 14 people were injured, including 2 children. 5 people were rescued and 12 residents received psychological support. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as people may still be trapped under the rubble.

Vinnytsia oblast

​​A charity masterclass called Art from Shells will be held in Vinnytsia. Participants will learn to decorate shell casings and the items created will be sold at a charity fair, with proceeds going to those in need.

Kirovohrad oblast

In Kropyvnytskyi, residents marked the 2nd anniversary of Kherson’s liberation from russian occupation. Locals and displaced residents gathered in Heroiv Maidanu (Heroes of Maidan) Square, displaying banners such as Kherson is Ukraine and Chornobaivka – Thank you, Armed Forces of Ukraine, along with Ukrainian and Kherson city flags. 

Andrii Raikovych, Head of the RMA, stated that nearly 9,000 people from Kherson oblast currently reside in Kirovohrad oblast. 

As reported by the National Police, bomb disposal experts neutralised a cluster warhead from a russian missile that did not detonate, with remnants found in a field.

Poltava oblast

Military personnel in Poltava oblast can now check for administrative proceedings or fines issued by Territorial Centres of Recruitment and Social Support (TCC and SS) without visiting enforcement agencies in person.

Cherkasy oblast

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, air defence forces were active in Cherkasy oblast overnight, shutting down enemy drones. There were no casualties or damages reported. 

In Uman, soldier Bohdan Badornyi, who was killed in action on 4 November, was laid to rest. He served in the communications unit of a tank battalion.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

On 11 November, shortly after midnight, the enemy launched three airstrikes on the city. As a result of the night attack on Zaporizhzhia, one person was killed and 23 others were injured, including five children. Residential buildings, a dormitory, a sports complex, and a car dealership were damaged by the russian shelling. One section of an apartment building was destroyed.

Yesterday, the occupiers launched 356 attacks on 10 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces carried out 18 airstrikes on Zaporizhzhia, Temyrivka, Novodarivka, and Mala Tokmachka. 208 drones of various modifications targeted Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria, and Olhivske. Additionally, 130 artillery strikes hit Lobkove, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Bilohiria and Olhivske. There were 44 reports of damage to residential buildings and infrastructure.

It is reported that the occupiers attempted two attacks towards Novoandriivka and Mala Tokmachka but were met with strong resistance and suffered losses.

Mykolaiv oblast

On 11 November, around 01:50, the enemy attacked Mykolaiv with Shahed-131/136 drones. The attack resulted in the death of five people, and a 45-year-old woman was injured and hospitalised. Psychological assistance was provided to 22 people at the scene. Fires broke out in both an apartment building and a private house. One private house was destroyed, several others were damaged, including an apartment building. Two cars were destroyed. The blast wave damaged apartments, four stores, and caused a rupture in the heating network, leading to disruptions in heating and gas supply. Air defence forces shot down five Shahed-131/136 drones over Mykolaiv oblast.

Mykolaiv declared 12 November a Day of Mourning for those killed in the russian attack on the city on 11 November.

On 10 November, at 3:07pm, the enemy carried out artillery shelling on the waters of Ochakiv community. There were no casualties.

Odesa oblast

As of 6am on 11 November, there was one enemy ship in the Mediterranean Sea, armed with Kalibr cruise missiles with a total salvo of up to 8 missiles. There were no enemy ships present in the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov.

During the past day, four vessels passed through the Kerch Strait in russia’s interests, and another seven ships entered the Sea of Azov.

A four-day training session for military doctors took place in Odesa, focusing on blood transfusion and saving patients with hemorrhagic shock. The training aims to equip hospital-level medics with the skills to treat severe hemorrhagic shock caused by bleeding from injuries. The training was conducted by instructors from the PULSE charitable foundation. These sessions have been held since April, with approximately 3-4 groups of trainees attending each month. So far, around 80-90 medical personnel have been trained.

Kherson oblast

Kherson oblast marks the second anniversary of the liberation of the right-bank part of the region from russian occupiers. Exactly two years ago, on 11 November, 2022, Ukrainian Defense Forces freed the city of Kherson and the right-bank area, bringing long-awaited freedom to its residents.

Last night, the occupying forces shelled Bilozerka, damaging a residential building—destroying the roof, walls, and breaking windows.

Yesterday, russian troops attacked 12 settlements, including Antonivka, Sadove, Prydniprovske, Bilozerka, Stanislav, Mykilske, Beryslav, Tomaryne, Mykhailivka, Shliakhove, Zmiivka, Novokairy, Olhivka, and the city of Kherson. russian strikes hit an educational institution and a store, damaging nine private houses, a gas pipeline, a garage, a motorcycle, and private vehicles. One person was injured due to the russian aggression.

Kherson Regional Military Administration reported that on 9 November in the village of Sadove, the occupiers killed a local resident using a drone. Efforts are currently underway to identify the victim.

Today, a woman who suffered from the russian shelling of Beryslav on 10 November sought medical help. The 61-year-old resident sustained blast injuries and a concussion.

According to the “South” Operational Command, the enemy attempted seven assaults to capture territory in the island zone along the Prydniprovske direction. Over the past day, enemy losses amounted to 86 personnel, 8 artillery pieces, 6 Shahed-136 drones, 26 vehicles, 1 buggy, 6 motorcycles, 2 generators, 1 Starlink unit, 1 surveillance camera, 1 Silok electronic warfare station, 18 bunkers, 1 observation post, 1 UAV launch site, 2 ammunition storage locations, a checkpoint and a firing position.

Over the weekend, specialists from the Casers public organisation provided medical services to residents of Bila Krynytsia and Borozenske. Locals received free consultations with a therapist and ultrasound specialist. In total, medical aid was given to over 80 patients.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Lutsk community sent 20 DJI Mavic 3 Intelligent Flight Battery batteries, 30 1s5p 21700 LG 27500mah xt60 batteries, 3 DJI Mavic Pro (RC) quadcopters and 3 DJI Mavic 3T quadcopters to the Motorized Infantry Battalion of the 100th Separate Mechanised Brigade.

Zakarpattia oblast

The ViZa CF sent modern professional equipment, included, electronic measuring forks, laser rangefinders, altimeters, GPS receivers, computers with software, etc., worth 500,000 kroner to the Forests of Ukraine Carpathian Forestry Office of the State Enterprise tanks to the Forestry Administration of the Czech Republic.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

Ivano-Frankivsk sent 25 FPV drones to the 150th Separate Mechanised Brigade thanks to the budget funds.

In Ivano-Frankivsk, 94 people from families of war killed, deceased and missing soldiers will receive monthly payments in the amount of the subsistence minimum. Since the beginning of the year, such payments have been approved for 782 people.

Lviv oblast

In Lviv, the 2nd training on the basics of civil defence and first aid was held for all willing residents. The classes took place in all 14 centres of national and patriotic education operating on the basis of Lviv schools and within the walls of Lviv City Council.

Rivne oblast

Two medical institutions of Rivne oblast received aid from Insamlingsstiftelsen Bläljus i Samverkan CF, Sweden. The Regional Veterans’ Hospital received a special medical vehicle and rehabilitation equipment. And the Regional Dispensary for Radiation Protection of the Population received a device for ultrasound of the heart.

Ternopil oblast

6 defenders from Ternopil will receive one-time financial assistance in the amount of UAH 10,000 for treatment and rehabilitation. In total, since the beginning of the year, 231 defenders have received financial support to restore their health.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

At night, during an air alarm signal, the Air Defense Forces destroyed a Shahed UAV. There were no injuries, deaths or property damage.

Chernivtsi oblast

At the request of Chernivtsi RMA, the Orange Femeli CF provided 289 food kits from the World Central Kitchen international charity to the civilian population, which was evacuated during September-October of this year from the front-line regions of Donetsk oblast. Now these people live in 12 places of temporary residence in Chernivtsi oblast.

Ukraine will receive a new $750m aid package from the World Bank. Funds will be provided within the framework of the project aimed at supporting the reforms necessary for joining the EU.

At the summit of the European Political Community, the leaders of over 40 countries called on Donald Trump, new US President, to maintain support for Ukraine.

Christiana Hoffmann, representative of the government of Germany, stated that the country will continue to support Ukraine despite the political crisis.
