The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is introducing a new model for determining drone requirements for the Defense Forces. From now on, UAV procurement decisions will be made automatically based on real combat data from the front line, minimizing the human factor, subjective influence, and corruption risks. This approach aims to eliminate the “zoo” of ineffective solutions that forced soldiers to modify equipment in the trenches.
The state will only purchase drones that have proven their effectiveness in combat—those that fly, complete missions, and hit targets. Based on unit requests, the General Staff will form a list of necessary equipment strictly by technical characteristics, without naming specific models or manufacturers.
Which drones are purchased will be determined by a rating system based on data from digital military systems:
- eBaly: Statistics of real effectiveness on the battlefield.
- DOT-Chain and Brave1 Market: Data on which solutions military units purchase independently.
- DELTA and Mission Control: Synchronization matrix and analytics of drone use in combat operations.
This is the first time defense procurement decisions will be formed automatically based on combat results. If a drone is ineffective, the system simply will not generate a requirement for it.
The updated funding model allocates:
- 80% of the budget to solutions proven effective by digital systems.
- 20% of the budget to innovative developments and new technologies for testing in combat conditions.
Ukrainian Chef Yevhen Klopotenko will work on recipes for the Armed Forces of Ukraine as part of a reform to improve military catering. The “Preparing for Battle” project, launched by the State Operator For Non-Pharma (DOT) of the Ministry of Defense, aims to address the fact that most military cooks lack professional education and clear operational algorithms.
The Ministry notes that even when products are delivered on time and meet standards, “the result in the kitchen can vary depending on conditions, equipment, and the experience of the people.”
