Hirky, Brusky, and Bobylivka in Sumy oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian soldiers repelled two enemy attacks, and another engagement is ongoing.
The invaders’ aviation launched ten strikes, dropping 28 guided bombs. In addition, the enemy launched 80 attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops and settlements.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy launched 16 attacks in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Stroivka, Zapadney, Dovhenke, Dvorichanske, Kolodiazny, and Bolohivka.
Towards Kupiansk, the Defense Forces repelled four enemy attacks in the vicinity of Stepova Novoselivka, Kupiansk and Ivanivka; two more clashes are ongoing.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out nine attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of Pershotravneve, Karpivka, Kolodiazi, Novoselivka and Stavky; two clashes are still ongoing.
Towards Slaviansk, russian units tried to advance on the positions of our troops eight times in the areas of Yampol, Serebrianka, Novoselivka, Vyimka and Pereizne; one clash is currently ongoing. The enemy struck Slaviansk with GABs.
Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy carried out offensive actions twice in the vicinity of Chasiv Yar and Orikhovo-Vasylivka. Kramatorsk was hit by airstrikes.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the enemy tried to penetrate Ukrainian defenses ten times in the vicinity of Bila Hora, Shcherbinivka, Rusyn Yar, Poltavka and Pleshchiivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, russian occupiers made 43 attempts to push Ukrainian soldiers from the occupied positions in the vicinity of Volodymyrivka, Novotoretske, Nykanorivka, Rodynske, Sukhetske, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Novoserhiivka, Promin, Lysivka, Pokrovsk, Zvirove, Kotlyne, Udachne, Kotliarivka, Horikhove and Filiia. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled 35 attacks.
Towards Oleksandrivske, Ukrainian defenders repelled 19 attacks by the invaders in the vicinity of the settlements of Ivanivka, Piddubne, Oleksandrohrad, Sichneve, Sosnivka, Vorone, Berezove, Novovasylivske, Novohryhorivka, Malynivka and Poltavka. Ten more combat clashes are ongoing.
Towards Huliaipole, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.

MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak reports that the Verkhovna Rada supported a bill that introduces a monthly payment of 50 thousand hryvnias for released prisoners of war who need treatment. Servicemen will be provided with payments for 3 months of continuous inpatient treatment.
Mykhailo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation, says that Ukraine and Norway have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the Development of Defense Innovations. The joint Brave-Norway program with a budget of 20 million euros is also being launched.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
The General Staff reports that there were more than 20 russian attacks in Kharkiv oblast.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the occupier carried out 16 attacks in the vicinity of Vovchansk, Stroivka, Zapadne, Dovhenke, Dvorichanske, Kolodiazne and Bolohivka.
Towards Kupiansk, the Defense Forces repelled four russian attacks in the vicinity of Stepova Novoselivka, Kupiansk and Ivanivka; two more clashes are ongoing.
There were 217 combat clashes in the oblast.
Towards Southern Sloboda, there were 34 combat clashes in the areas of Vovchansk, Zapadny, Dovhenke, Kolodiazne, Kutkivka, Odradne, Dvorichanske, Lyptsi.
Towards Kupiansk, there were seven attacks by the occupiers. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions in the vicinity of Kupiansk, Stepova Novoselivka and towards Kurylivka.
Shelling
4 settlements in the oblast were subjected to enemy attacks.
As a result of shelling in the city of Derhachi, a 72-year-old man was injured.
The enemy actively used various types of weapons:

▪️1 FPV drone.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
▪️In Kharkiv region, 18 private houses, an electric train, and 2 cars were damaged (city of Derhachi);
▪️In Kupiansk region, a private house (village of Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi) and 2 private houses (village of Lozove) were damaged;
▪️in Izium region, an agricultural enterprise, a fuel truck, a car with seeds, a tractor with a trailer, a passenger trailer, a generator were damaged, agricultural products were destroyed (village of Pidlyman).
Other
169 people were evacuated. 62 people remained in Lozova evacuation point. In total, 6,650 people have been registered at the Point since it began operating.
Over 338 hectares of the oblast were demined during the week. 1,683 explosive devices were neutralized.
On October 2, in Kupiansk, russians shot at close range two men and a woman who wanted to evacuate the city, the SBU reported. Law enforcement officers have established the name of the Russian commander who, according to the investigation, gave the order to shoot.
Donetsk oblast
Frontline
On the morning of October 9, the soldiers of the 59th Yakov Hanzyuk Assault Brigade repelled an assault by Russians on the Pokrovsky direction, who were attacking on ATVs. The Russians were unsuccessful, said Taras Myshak, a senior officer of the communications department of the 59th brigade.
The Dobropil counteroffensive operation of the Defense Forces of Ukraine is ongoing. Despite constant counterattacks by Russian troops, the assault units of the Defense Forces continue offensive operations in certain areas. In total, 180.8 sq. km of the Donetsk region were liberated during the operation, 212.9 sq. km were cleared of saboteurs, reported Commander Syrsky.
Russian troops attacked 58 times on the Pokrovsky and 40 times on the Oleksandrivsky (formerly Novopavlivsky) directions in the past day, the General Staff said.
In the Oleksandrivka direction, the Defense Forces repelled attacks in the areas of the settlements of Andriyivka-Klevtsove, Piddubne, Sosnivka, Filiya, Sichneve, Komyshuvakha, Vorone, Verbove, Alekseevka, Novomykolaivka, Novohrygorivka, Poltavka, Malynovka.
In the Kostyantynivka (formerly Toretsky) direction, Russian troops carried out 17 attacks, and in the Lymansky direction, 15 attacks took place.
In the Lymansky direction, Russian troops carried out 15 assaults on the defense zone of the 3rd Army Corps over the past day, but were unsuccessful. The Russian army also carried out more than 500 strikes per day, most of them from FPV drones and drop bombs, and fewer from artillery. Tactical air strikes using KABs were also recorded, said Danylo Polozhukhno, head of the command post of the separate Kraken 1654 unmanned systems regiment of the 3rd Army Corps.
Shelling
Serhii Horbunov, Head of Kostiantynivka RMA, says that on October 9, russian troops shelled the city of Kostiantynivka. As a result, one person was killed and 4 were wounded. According to Anastasia Medviedieva, Spokeswoman for the regional prosecutor’s office, at 2:00 p.m., russian troops hit a religious building with an FPV strike drone, which caused a fire.
At around 11:00 a.m. on October 9, Russian troops attacked the city of Slaviansk. According to Vadym Lyakh, Head of the RMA, at least 32 private and 8 multi-story buildings, a boiler room, and 5 cars were damaged. At least 7 people were injured. Among the injured, 1 person is in serious condition.

At midnight, russian troops struck the territory of an educational institution in Kramatorsk. The school building and nearby high-rise buildings were damaged.
The fuel crisis has worsened in the occupied part of Donetsk Oblast: gasoline is sold by coupons, queues at gas stations, and transport has been reduced. People are preparing for winter without fuel and heat, the Center for National Resistance reported.
On October 8, there were 1,938 enemy strikes on the front line and residential areas.
The cities of Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Mykolaivka, Sviatohirsk, Sloviansk, the villages of Novodonetske, Oleksandrivka, Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka, the villages of Zavydo-Borzenka, Myrne, Petrivka Druha, Rai-Oleksandrivka, Riznykivka, and Shostakivka were under fire. 46 civilian objects were destroyed, including 21 residential buildings.
Kramatorsk was subjected to three enemy attacks – a civilian was injured.
russian troops dropped three KAB-250 bombs on Sviatohirsk, damaging 5 private houses and three shops.
An apartment building was damaged in Sloviansk. In Myrne, there was damage to the territory of a gas station as a result of an FPV drone hit.
In Novodonetsk, three Geran-2 UAVs damaged 4 apartment buildings and 3 private houses, an educational institution, a transport company, and a civilian car. In Shostakivka, a drone strike damaged two private houses and two outbuildings.
In Oleksiivo-Druzhkivka, a private house and a civilian car were damaged, and in Petrivka Druha, 4 private houses were damaged as well.
In Zavydo-Borzenka, Pokrovsk region, the enemy struck a Geran-2 UAV, 2 private houses were damaged.
Luhansk oblast
The enemy carried out 25 attacks on two sections of the eastern front, attempting to storm around 10 settlements. The occupiers are actively using artillery and drones in those areas, according to the Regional Military Administration (RMA).
In the Lyman direction, the enemy made fifteen attempts to advance. Another ten attacks took place in the Sloviansk direction, which until recently was known as the Siversk direction.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that due to the transition to a corps-based structure, and taking into account changes in the operational situation in the eastern operational zone, the names of several directions are being updated.
Meanwhile, Russia intends to force medical students to repay triple the amount of their tuition if they studied on a state-funded basis. The corresponding draft law was adopted by the Russian State Duma in the first reading. If passed, it will take effect on March 1, 2026. According to the proposal, each medical student will be required to sign a targeted education contract in their first year of study. If the terms of the contract are violated, the student must reimburse the cost of education and pay an additional penalty equal to double that amount — in other words, pay three times the tuition cost.
The occupiers are conducting showy reconstruction efforts only in the large cities of the so-called “LNR.” Small towns, villages, and settlements remain neglected by the Russian authorities. Residential buildings and infrastructure in the settlements along the 2022 front line remain destroyed. This concerns not only the more than 50 settlements around Sievierodonetsk that still have no electricity. In fact, after three and a half years, almost no restoration work has been carried out in the villages located between Sokolohirsk and Lysychansk.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
According to Kirill Fesik, head of the Obolon District State Administration, two anti-radiation shelters have been built in the Obolon district of the capital. The shelters are reinforced structures that can protect against radiation. They are equipped with ventilation and air filtration systems, autonomous lighting and sanitary areas.
According to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, a modern inclusive space for patient rehabilitation will be set up at the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital. The new barrier-free sports area and golf courses will be designed for physical and psychological rehabilitation. There, patients will be able to recover after treatment, regain self-confidence and adapt socially. The construction will be financed by charitable funds.
According to Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klychko, on 9 October, the Kyiv City Council approved a draft decision to increase funding for programmes supporting military personnel and their families. This involves the allocation of almost UAH 4 billion, which deputies had previously earmarked as part of the ‘Defender of Kyiv’ programme. There are also plans to increase spending on payments to the families of deceased and missing soldiers, as well as to the families of prisoners of war, for which an additional 210 million hryvnias has been allocated.
Detector Media reported that the Donbas Media Forum 2025 has begun in Kyiv. The theme of this year’s conference is “Freedom of Speech vs. Freedom of Lies” – how Ukrainian media overcome global challenges, defend democratic values, and remain a compass for society during war and global turbulence. The event brought together more than 1,000 participants, at least 400 of whom represent regional media.
Zhytomyr oblast
The Korosten Central City Hospital’s general director, Serhiy Koverdun, announced that in Zhytomyr oblast, a second solar power plant with a capacity of 150 kilowatts is being installed at the Korosten Central City Hospital. It will be installed as part of a grant project implemented with financial support from Lithuania.
Sumy oblast
On 8 October President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a meeting with journalists over the past month, russian forces have launched around 1,550 strikes on Chernihiv, Sumy, and Poltava oblasts — but achieved their objectives in only 160 cases,.
According to the President, Ukraine’s Defence Forces are using, among other means, interceptor drones to counter russian UAVs. During one of the recent attacks on Chernihiv oblast, such systems downed 22 of 36 russian Shahed drones.
Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, Нead of Ukrzaliznytsia, stated that russian troops targeted railway infrastructure in an attempt to cut connections between Chernihiv and Sumy oblast and block both primary and reserve routes. Passengers were evacuated to a safe distance and transported to other cities by bus.
On the morning of 9 October, a russian drone struck a car carrying civilians in Mykolaivka community. A 27-year-old man and woman were injured and hospitalised, doctors are providing necessary treatment.
Overnight, a russian drone hit near a classroom building of Sumy National Agrarian University. According to Sumy City Military Administration, one building and several facilities were damaged, and more than 100 windows were shattered.
Civilian casualties from russian shelling were reported across Sumy oblast:
- In Bilopillia community, a 66-year-old man was killed by a guided aerial bomb (GAB) strike; in Mykolaivka community, a 40-year-old man died in an FPV drone attack.
- In Velyka Pysarivka community, a 65-year-old man was killed by mortar fire.
- In Sumy community, a 52-year-old man was wounded in a drone strike.
Residents injured in earlier attacks have also sought medical care: a 44-year-old man from Hlukhiv community wounded by an FPV drone on 6 October; a 39-year-old man from Krasnopillia community injured the same day; and a 47-year-old man from Stepanyvka community wounded by a drone strike on 7 October.
Between the mornings of 8 and 9 October, russian forces carried out nearly 50 attacks on 25 settlements across 13 local communities in the oblast. The heaviest shelling occurred in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used guided aerial bombs (15 strikes), UAVs (over 10 strikes), and FPV drones.
Damage to civilian infrastructure:
- Bilopillia community – private house, vehicle and civilian infrastructure facility damaged.
- Sumy community – private houses, university building, non-residential premises, apartment block, administrative buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities damaged.
- Stepanyvka community – non-residential building damaged.
- Shalyhyne community – private house damaged.
- Komyshany community – non-residential buildings damaged.

During the past 24 hours, 23 people were evacuated from border communities of Sumy oblast through coordinated efforts of local authorities, the State Emergency Service (SES), the National Police, and humanitarian organisations.
The Regional Military Administration reported that railway connections with Sumy oblast are currently operating on altered routes. Due to the ongoing threat of russian attacks on certain railway sections, trains travelling to and from the oblast are being redirected along detour routes. On 8 October, these changes caused significant delays in train arrivals and departures.
Between 3 and 5 October, a veterans’ rehabilitation camp was held at the Western Rehabilitation and Sports Centre of the National Committee of Sports of the Disabled of Ukraine (NKSIU) in Yavoriv, Lviv oblast. The event brought together veterans, female veterans, their families, and specialists working with demobilised personnel from Sumy region. Organisers described the camp’s atmosphere as one of support, warmth, and meaningful exchange of practical experience.
Chernihiv oblast
Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Administration, reported that in the night of 9 October, russian troops launched a repeated strike using two Shahed attack drones on a store in Zhadove village, Semenivka community, while firefighters were extinguishing the blaze. The fire brigade’s vehicle was damaged, and the store was completely destroyed. No casualties were reported. According to Chernihiv Regional Police, the attack also damaged residential buildings and the village council building.

Oleksandr Seliverstov, Head of Novhorod-Siverskyi Regional Administration, said that on the evening of 8 October, russian forces attacked Popivka village in Novhorod-Siverskyi community by six strike drones. The attack destroyed and damaged residential houses, farm buildings, and a vehicle. Fires broke out at the sites of impact, which were later extinguished by emergency services.

On 8 October, russian troops struck Kostobobriv village by a drone, causing a fire that destroyed an uninhabited house.
Viacheslav Chaus, Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, informed that throughout the day, russian Shahed and other attack drones targeted civilian infrastructure in Nizhyn and Nizhyn. Explosions damaged freight trains and caused a fire in service buildings.
In the border settlements of Novhorod-Siverskyi regions, drone strikes damaged seven households, a kindergarten, a shop, a local administration building, civilian vehicles, and fire-fighting equipment belonging to both the State Emergency Service (SES) and the local fire team.
In Pryluky region, SES units completed extinguishing a large-scale fire at an infrastructure facility nearly 24 hours after the attack. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 95 rescuers from several oblast of Ukraine worked together using 37 units of equipment, two fire trains, and robotic systems to contain the blaze.
According to Chernihiv Border Detachment, russian forces attacked three border communities — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk—during the day. The enemy conducted:
- 1 mortar strike,
- 1 “Lancet” drone strike,
- 1 “Molniya” drone strike,
- 2 unidentified drone strikes,
- 2 “Shahed” drone strikes,
- 5 FPV drone strikes, and
- 4 explosive drops from UAVs.
On 7 October, Oleksandr Urvantsev, a cameraman for Chernihiv-based Dytynets TV channel and a soldier of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, was killed in action in Kharkiv oblast while performing a combat mission. Urvantsev had worked at the television channel since 2017.
According to Dmytro Bryzhynskyi, head of the Chernihiv City Military Administration, Chernihiv City Council allocated UAH 595m. in 2025 to support the defence sector, veterans, and their families.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk oblast council, reported that Ukrainian defenders destroyed 3 enemy drones. The russian forces attacked Synelnykove region by UAVs, targeting the Pokrovske community. A private house and a gas pipeline were damaged.
From evening until morning, the enemy continued shelling Nikopol region, mainly targeting the regional centre. The attacks were carried out primarily by drones and artillery.
Vinnytsia oblast
According to Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration, Vinnytsia oblast has reinforced the Artan special unit of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine. The fighters received 200 fiber-optic FPV drones, a pickup truck and 5 Matrice drones.
Cherkasy oblast
The press service of Zvenyhorodk City Council reported that Serviceman Oleksii Havryliuk from Cherkasy oblast died in hospital from wounds sustained during the war with russia.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that a 40-year-old man was killed as a result of a russian strike on Richne village in the Zaporizhzhia oblast.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on 8 October, he Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 9 russian attacks in Orikhiv region. The russian troops attempted to advance in the areas of Stepove, Kamianske and toward Novoandriivka.
Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that on 8 October, russian forces launched 580 strikes on 14 settlements across the Zaporizhzhia oblast. The towns of Kushuhum, Huliaipole, Novodanylivka and Poltavka were shelled 7 times by MLRS.
Volodymyr Sosunovskyi, Head of Kushuhum community, reported that in Kushuhum community, 32 explosions were recorded yesterday. About 45 houses and several civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged in Kushuhum settlement.
The State Emergency Service reported that on 9 October, sappers of the SES in Zaporizhzhia oblast destroyed 3 cluster munitions found in the center of one of the villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Mykolaiv oblast
According to Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, on 8 October, russian forces repeatedly attacked Ochakiv community in Mykolaiv oblast by FPV drones. There were no casualties reported.
Odesa oblast
Referring to Odesa Regional Military Administration, as a result of a nighttime russian attack on Odesa oblast, fires broke out in 2 residential buildings, an administrative building of a gas station and at a port infrastructure facility. Containers with vegetable oil, vehicles and wood fuel pellets caught fire. Preliminary reports indicate 5 people were injured. Also, 4 private houses were damaged and over 30,000 consumers were left without electricity after energy infrastructure facilities came under attack.

Kherson oblast
According to Kherson City Military Administration, in the afternoon, russian forces shelled the central part of Kherson. The shell hit the base of a dismantled advertising structure. Nearby buildings sustained broken windows and damaged facades. There were no casualties were reported.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that around 2:30pm, russian troops used a drone to attack a utility service vehicle in Korabelnyi district of Kherson. 1 municipal worker was killed and 3 injured. Doctors are fighting for their lives.
The CMA reported that earlier in the morning, 2 men, aged 58 and 44, were injured during another shelling in Korabelnyi district. Both were hospitalised with blast injuries and concussions.
Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, on 8 October, russian forces attacked 27 settlements of Kherson oblast. 2 people were killed and 8 injured. The strikes damaged administrative buildings, a car repair station, 10 private houses and several vehicles.
According to the RMA, yesterday afternoon, a 71-year-old woman from Bilozirka was injured in a russian shelling. She sustained a blast injury, concussion and brain trauma and was hospitalised.
Based on the information provided by the Regional Police, in Kherson, russian forces attacked 2 police service vehicles by FPV drones while law enforcement officers were responding to a traffic accident in the Tsentralnyi district of Kherson. 4 police officers suffered concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

Volyn oblast
The State Border Guard Service reported that Andrii Milenin, from the city of Kivertsi, received the For Military Service to Ukraine medal. The award was presented to Major General Serhii Serdiuk, border guard, by the Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
Zakarpattia oblast
An interdepartmental forum was held in Uzhhorod to launch a platform for interaction between the police and the Roma community in the oblast. It is designed to improve socialization, legal support for Roma, and prevent their discrimination. The pilot will operate in Berehov, Mukachevo and Uzhhorod.
Ivano-Frankivsk oblast
The 10th Tank Battalion of the Separate Mountain Assault Brigade Edelveis received 4 portable electronic warfare systems from Ivano-Frankivsk community.
Lviv oblast
On the City Day, residents of Boryslav donated over UAH 100,000. During the forum Youth Territory 4.0, the youth community Soteria raised over UAH 2,300 from the sale of goodies.
In the village of Ushnya, the band HARDA raised over UAH 15,000 for the rehabilitation of wounded soldier Roman Sokolov.
Zolochiv community sent a minibus for the 53rd Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Volodymyr Monomakh.
Volunteers from Buska community purchased a sitcom and tires for the car of the 95th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade.
Pomoryansk community sent a new batch of camouflage to Mykolaiv oblast.
Rivne oblast
Since August, Rivne oblast has received 500 evacuated people from Donetsk oblast. They were accommodated in the communities of Rivne, Dubno and Sarny region. In total, over 42,000 internally displaced persons are currently registered in the oblast.
Ternopil oblast
The 35th Separate Rifle Battalion received a Mitsubishi L200 vehicle. The vehicle was purchased thanks to the employees of Ternopil City Council and the Wheels of Victory CF.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
2 cars were sent to the military units of the Defense Forces thanks to the Association of Lawyers Zlahoda, which has been supporting military units, hospitals, and centers for assistance to displaced persons for a long time.
Chernivtsi oblast
Chernivtsi paid tribute to the fallen Defender of Ukraine Serhii Shutovskyi, soldier of the Military Unit A0998. He was 42 years old. Since May 2025, Serhii had been considered missing. Later it became known that the soldier was killed while performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast.

The Swiss government has complied with the parliament’s demand to distinguish between oblasts of Ukraine to which return is considered acceptable and those to which return is unacceptable. The restrictions will come into effect on 1 November, 2025.
