It has been the 1263 rd day of the Ukrainian resistance to the russian military aggression. 

 

What happened in Ukraine today:

Here is operational information of the General Staff as of 6 pm:   

The invaders continue to storm the positions of Ukrainian defenders.

On 9 August, there were 79 combat clashes on the frontline.

Border settlements have suffered from cynical shelling from the territory of the russian federation, namely Arkhipivka, Chernihiv oblast; Seredyna-Buda, Hirky, Chuikivka, Vasylivka, Bilokopytove, Oleksandrivka, Novodmytrivka, Sumy oblast; Lemishchyne, Kharkiv oblast.

Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were six combat clashes. The enemy carried out four air strikes, dropped a total of five guided aerial bombs and carried out 171 artillery shelling, including nine from multiple launch rocket systems.

Towards Southern Sloboda, Ukrainian defenders stopped three attacks in the vicinity of the settlement of Vovchansk and towards the settlements of Kolodiazne and Petro-Ivanivka.

Towards Kupiansk, there were two attacks. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near Petropavlivka and Kovalivka.

Towards Lyman, the invading army attacked six times near the settlement of Karpivka and towards Hryhorivka, Serebrianka, and Shandryholove. Two clashes are currently ongoing.

Towards Siversk, the enemy has carried out two offensive actions in the vicinity of the settlement of Pereizne.

Towards Kramatorsk, there were no clashes.

Towards Toretsk, the enemy attacked six times in the vicinity of the settlements of Diliivka, Shcherbynivka, Toretsk, Rusyn Yar and towards Pleshchiivka and Bila Hora.

Towards Pokrovsk, there were 26 attempts to push Ukrainian defenders from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Poltavka, Novoekonomichne, Myroliubivka, Zvirove, Udachne, Dachne and towards the settlements of Novoukrainka, Pokrovsk, Sukhetske, Zatyshok. The defense forces are holding back the enemy’s onslaught and repelled 24 attacks, two clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Novopavlivka, the enemy attacked 14 times near the settlements of Vilne Pole, Maliivka, Temyrivka and towards the settlements of Olhivske, Iskra, Oleksandrohrad, Zelenyi Hai, Filiia, Komyshuvakha, Tolstoi. Four clashes are still ongoing.

Towards Huliaipole, the defense forces have repelled an enemy attack near Malynivka, the settlement of Kostiantynivka was subjected to an air strike.

Towards Orikhiv, the enemy, with the support of aviation, carried out three assaults near Novodanylivka and Novoandriivka. One clash is still ongoing.

Towards Kherson, the enemy made four attempts to advance – but they were unsuccessful. The settlement of Lvove was subjected to air strikes with guided bombs.

In other directions of the front, the situation did not change significantly.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that despite high intensity of diplomatic work in recent days, russia’s position remains unchanged. He also emphasized that all steps taken by Ukraine and its partners should bring the war closer to a real end, and not to its “reconfiguration”, and work for common security.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reports that Ukraine has introduced new personal and sectoral sanctions against 35 individuals and legal entities associated with the state corporation Rosatom and russian energy companies. 

Recent war events in the east of Ukraine

Kharkiv oblast

Frontline

According to the RMA, there were 163 combat clashes. Towards Southern Sloboda, there were nine combat clashes near Vovchansk and Novovasylivka. Towards Kupiansk, there were seven attacks by the occupiers. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions in the areas of Myrne, Kupiansk, Holubivka and Nova Kruhliakivka.

Shelling

Viktor Kovalenko, Head of Zolochiv community, says that at 6 am, russian troops attacked the village of Turove with FPV drones. As a result of the strikes, warehouse agricultural premises that were not working were destroyed. Another drone hit near a private yard – there was no damage there. At 01:00, three Geran-2 drones targeted Zolochiv. Direct hits to the roof caused a fire in the one-story building of the infectious diseases department of Zolochiv hospital, which is not in operation. The premises were destroyed. It was planned to equip a rehabilitation center there.

Valeria Chirina, Spokeswoman for the regional prosecutor’s office, says that five people were injured when a russian drone hit an apartment building in Chuhuiv on the night of August 9. According to her, they are a 15-year-old girl with burns on 20% of her body and blast wounds, as well as a 43-year-old woman with burns to her arms and legs. Three men aged 20, 35 and 43 also suffered blast injuries. Another 43-year-old woman sought medical attention with an acute stress reaction. Chirina says that according to preliminary data, the Russian military hit the city with 11 Geran-2 drones.

Halina Minaeva, community leader, reports that two people were injured as a result of Russian drone strikes on Chuhuiv on the night of August 9.  russian military attacks remote neighborhood, damages apartment building.

According to Sergei Starikov, Head of the community, at night, russians attacked the village of Shevchenkove, carrying out the largest strike with drones since the start of the full-scale war. The attack lasted 20–30 minutes, the drones flew one after the other, inflicting direct hits on civilian objects. A school, a cultural center, and a dormitory where displaced people lived were damaged.  These objects have not been shelled for the first time.

13 settlements in the oblast were hit by enemy attacks. 7 people were injured as a result of the shelling, including a child.

In the city of Kupiansk, 63-year-old and 69-year-old men and 70-year-old, 66-year-old, and 86-year-old women were injured; in the village of Kluhyno-Bashkyrivka, Chuhuiv community, a 43-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl were injured.

As a result of explosions using explosive devices in Chkalovsk community, 2 people were injured: in the village of Hrakovo, an 83-year-old man, and in the village of Doslidne, a 49-year-old man.

Last night, the enemy massively shelled the Bohodukhiv, Izium, Kupiansk, and Chuhuiv regions. According to preliminary data, from 1:00 to 2:00, russians used 22 Geran-2 UAVs.

The enemy actively used various types of weapons:

▪️4 GABs;

▪️34 Geran-2 UAVs;

▪️1 Molniya UAV;

▪️3 FPV drones.

Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:

▪️A private house was damaged in Kharkiv region (Slatyne village);

▪️In Kupiansk region, a private house (village Malyi Burluk), 3 apartment buildings (city Kupiansk), a private house (village Spodobivka), warehouses, a grain cleaning machine (village Voloska Balakliya), a culture house, a cinema, a school, garages (village Shevchenkove), a psychoneurological boarding school (village Bezmiatezhne), a warehouse (village Odradne);

▪️In Izium region, an administrative building, an apartment building and private houses (city Balakliia), a garage (village Borova), a club, a school, a private house (village Kalynove) were damaged;

▪️In Chuhuiv region, an apartment building (village Kluhyno-Bashkyrivka) was damaged;

▪️In Bohodukhiv region, a medical facility (village Zolochiv) was damaged.

Donetsk oblast

Frontline

Oleksandr Vovk, headquarters sergeant of the 3rd category of the communications department of the 117th Motorized Rifle Brigade, says that towards Pokrovsk, russian troops are using FPV drones, motorcycles and light equipment, but are suffering losses. Ukrainian military personnel are recording a concentration of infantry with low motivation. The prisoners admit that they are fighting for money. russian forces are trying to advance in small groups of 2-3 people, capturing trenches or basements for consolidation.

The General Staff reported that26 russian assaults were repelled by the Defense Forces towards Novopavlivka, there were 15 assaults the day before.

Towards Pokrovsk, Ukrainian defenders stopped 45 assaults, towards Lyman – 24 attacks.

Shelling

Kramatorsk RMA reported that russian troops shelled the road infrastructure of Kramatorsk at 11:15. The strike was carried out using a Molniya-2 UAV. There were no injuries, deaths or damage.

Head of the RMA Horbunov reported that the russian army has struck  Kostiantynivka community twice. From 05:40 to 06:00, the russian military shelled the city with cannon artillery and damaged the facades of buildings. Also at 6 am, the russian army shelled Markiv Starostyn region with an FPV strike drone – one person was injured, the facade of a private house was damaged.

At about 2:00, russia struck a Geran-2 UAV at Sloviansk – 6 private houses were damaged. According to police, Mykilske, Sviatohirsk community was also under attack, there is destruction on the territory of the enterprise.

There were four killed and nine injured civilians in massive shelling of Donetsk oblast.

On August 8, russia launched 2,456 strikes on the front line and residential areas.

12 settlements were under fire: the cities of Bilytske, Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Lyman, Pokrovsk, Siversk, the villages of Yampil, Ivanopillia, Illinivka, Korovii Yar, Semenivka.

141 civilian objects were damaged, including 117 residential buildings.

russians attacked Kostiantynivka with drones and artillery – a woman was killed, 5 more civilians were injured. A private house, a non-residential building and two civilian cars were destroyed.

The enemy covered Siversk with artillery – two civilians were killed, two more were injured.

One person was killed in the village of Korovii Yar, Lyman community, a private home was damaged. There is one injured person in Yampol.

In Bilytske, a civilian was injured as a result of an FPV drone hit.

The occupiers dropped two GAB-250 bombs on Dobropillia, damaging 8 apartment buildings, 12 civilian cars, and an infrastructure facility. A private house was damaged in Pokrovsk.

In Druzhkivka, two Gerber UAVs damaged 5 private homes. In Lyman, 2 apartment buildings and a private home, an administrative building, an educational institution, a car, and an infrastructure facility were damaged.

Four GAB-250 bombs were directed by russian troops at Ivanopillia, damaging 88 private homes and two shops. As a result of a bomb hit in Illinivka, 6 private homes were damaged.

Three GAB-250 bombs exploded in Semenivka, Kramatorsk community, damaging 4 private houses and a civilian car.

Other

Today is the anniversary of the airstrike on the shopping center in Kostiantynivka. On August 9, 2024, in broad daylight, the russian army hit a local hypermarket with a Kh-38 missile. There were many people in the store at that time. The attack killed 14 people, including three children and a police officer. Another 44 people, including four law enforcement officers, were injured.

At least 20 residents are evacuated from Dobropillia every day. Sometimes volunteers can take up to 70 people.

 Luhansk oblast

The invaders tried to advance towards Lyman 24 times near Hrekivka and Dibrova. The enemy made 29 artillery shelling attempts. It increased the number of drones used in the specified area – over the past day, 119 UAVs and FPV drones performed combat missions.

Several times a month, situations become public when russians delay the payment of salaries to employees of municipal or state-owned enterprises. The trend of bullying the population is also observed in Bilovodsk region, captured in 2022. Derkulske stud farm accumulated more than seven million rubles in debt to employees in the first half of 2025.

In the high-rise buildings of Siverskodonetsk, which survived russian assaults and are more or less suitable for living, approximately a third of the apartments are occupied by russian military personnel. Many buildings have even fewer people living in them. In three years, the russians have not taken any large-scale action to rebuild destroyed buildings and critical infrastructure. Only a few showy repairs are taking place. The city’s population has not increased significantly.

What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Kyiv oblast

In Slavutych, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) grant project ‘Energy Efficiency in Ukraine and Response to the Crisis’ is being implemented. Renovation work is nearing completion in the Dzherelce kindergarten building, which will soon provide temporary housing for internally displaced persons. It is expected that the first residents will move into the apartments in early 2026.

The international project ‘ReFastiv’ is being implemented in Fastiv. As part of the project to build residential and social infrastructure in the city, a delegation of French experts paid a working visit to Fastiv. The visit is an important part of further coordination of joint actions aimed at improving the living conditions of residents, developing social infrastructure and integrating European approaches to urban development.

A photo exhibition and installation entitled ‘CHASIV YAR. FIREPROOF’, dedicated to the year of heroic defence of Chasiv Yar by soldiers of the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo, is currently on display at Kontraktova Square in Kyiv. The exhibition consists of 54 photographs symbolising the 54 weeks of the city’s defence. The photographs are placed on the remains of fences from battle sites, reminding us that it is not walls and distances that separate the rear from the front, but the defenders ща Ukraine.

Zhytomyr oblast

In Zhytomyr, about 70 veterans of the russian-Ukrainian war are involved in the sports team ‘Veterans of Polissya’. They train in various sports, such as strongman, rowing, archery, and plan to increase the number of disciplines. Team members represent the oblast in national and international competitions.

Sumy oblast

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, there were 12 combat engagements towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk. russian forces launched 15 airstrikes, dropped 38 guided aerial bombs, and carried out 259 artillery attacks, including 11 by multiple launch rocket systems.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that a russian strike triggered a large-scale fire at an administrative building and a cultural center in Znob-Novhorodske community. Firefighters have extinguished all active fire sources.

The Regional Military Administration informed that as of the morning of 9 August, a 50-year-old man was injured in Seredyna-Buda community following a russian drone attack involving dropped VOG grenades.

Between the morning of 8 August and the morning of 9 August, russian forces carried out nearly 80 attacks targeting 43 settlements across 15 territorial communities in Sumy oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 30 strikes), VOG grenade drops from UAVs (up to 10 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (20 strikes), as well as FPV-drones and other UAVs.

Enemy shelling damaged civilian infrastructure across several communities in Sumy oblast:

• In Mykolaivka rural community: a utility structure and a private vehicle were damaged;
• In Seredyna-Buda community: a car was hit;
• In Sumy community: non-residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were affected;
• In Znob-Novhorodske community: an administrative building and a cultural center sustained damage.

Over the past day, 12 people were evacuated from border communities in Sumy oblast by local authorities in coordination with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organizations.

According to the Regional Military Administration, at around 4pm on 9 August, a 66-year-old man was injured in Seredyna-Buda community after stepping on a mine, likely a PFM-1 ‘Lepestok’. He sustained multiple injuries and was hospitalized.

The Regional Military Administration announced that a total of 100 strike UAVs were handed over to the 225th Separate Assault Regiment and an airborne assault brigade. The support was made possible thanks to contributions from responsible businesses in the oblast.

Chernihiv oblast

Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment reported that on 8 August, russian forces attacked three border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk — using various types of weapons. The strikes included mortar fire (4 explosions), tube artillery (2 explosions), Molniya-type UAVs (4 explosions), Lancet drones (1 explosion), FPV-drones (7 explosions), and explosive device drops from UAVs (5 explosions).
In Mamekyne village, Novhorod-Siverskyi community, a local woman was injured by a Molniya drone strike. In Ivanivka, Semenivka community, a fire broke out at an agricultural facility.

Hryhorii Galagan Chernihiv Regional Art Museum informed that combat medic and former staff member of the  Museum, Maryna Hrytsenko, was killed on the front line. She was 39 years old.

Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk oblast

Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk oblast council, says that in the morning, the russians attacked Dnipro. Three people were injured – a 41-year-old woman and men aged 21 and 29. An enterprise and a building were damaged. The occupiers continued to terrorize the civilian population of Nikopol region from evening until morning. A 56-year-old woman died in Nikopol from artillery shelling last night. She was pulled from under the rubble of her own house. A 62-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition. In total, drones and artillery were targeted in the regional center, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovsk communities. 7 private houses, 2 outbuildings and a power line were damaged. According to updated information, an outbuilding and a car were damaged in yesterday’s attacks in Myrove community. The enemy also struck Synelnykove region with drones. Mezhova community was targeted. Fires broke out, an apartment building and a private house were damaged.

 

The occupiers struck Nikopol region about 45 times with artillery and drones. In the evening, a 46-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman were injured in the shelling in the regional center. They targeted Nikopol, Chervonogryhorivka, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities. Fires broke out, 2 private homes and 3 outbuildings were destroyed by fire. 6 private houses, 2 outbuildings and a power line were damaged. The enemy also attacked Synelnykove. Fires broke out, an apartment building and a car were damaged. They also struck Zelenodolsk community of Kryvyi Rih region with a drone.

Kirovohrad oblast

An action was held in the village of Ustinivka, Kirovohrad oblast, in support of missing and captured fighters. It was attended by relatives and friends of the military and government representatives.

Cherkasy oblast

A mini-football tournament was held in the village of Horodetske, dedicated to the memory of the fallen soldier, Hero of Ukraine, former mayor of Uman – Oleksandr Tsebrii.

In Bahacheve, Junior Sergeant Anton Kocherha came home after being released from captivity in June. The meeting was attended by relatives, friends, acquaintances of the defender and caring residents of the community. The man had been in captivity for over two years.

Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine

Zaporizhzhia oblast

Ivan Fedorov, Head of Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, reported that a 61-year-old woman was killed in a russian strike on Stepnohirsk community in Zaporizhzhia oblast. The russians hit a residential area, destroying a private house.

A 68-year-old woman was injured in a russian FPV drone attack on private property in Huliaipole.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informed that the Ukrainian Defence Forces repelled 4 russian attacks near Kamianske and towards Novoandriivka in Orikhiv region. In Huliaipole region, russian troops launched one unsuccessful assault near Malynivka.

Ivan Fedorov, Head of the RMA, stated that russian forces struck a civilian vehicle in Bilenke community of Zaporizhzhia region by a drone. The car caught fire, killing the 2 people inside.

On 8 August, russian troops carried out 585 attacks on 11 towns and villages in Zaporizhzhia oblast. This included 415 drone strikes, mostly FPV drones, targeting Novotavrycheske, Yurkivka, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanilivka, Mala Tokmachka and Charivne.

Mykolaiv oblast

The RMA reported that on 8 August, russian forces attacked Halytsynove community by an FPV drone. The strike caused wooden structures at a recreation base near Lupareve to catch fire.

The previous day, FPV drones targeted Kutsurub community, damaging farm buildings in Yaselka village and igniting a private house in Dniprove village.

FPV drone attacks targeted the waters of Ochakiv community. There were no injuries reported.

Odesa oblast

The Ukrainian Navy reported that as of 8:30am on 9 August, 5 russian warships were on combat duty in the Black Sea, including one armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, with a total salvo of up to 4 missiles. 1 russian ship was on duty in the Sea of Azov.

Kherson oblast

The RMA reported that russian artillery struck Molodizhne village in Kherson oblast, destroying a house where a 72-year-old woman was present. She suffered a concussion, explosive trauma and a closed head injury.

The State Emergency Service reported russian forces shelled Komyshany in Kherson oblast, igniting a fire in a private house after a shell hit the building. A garage and a car caught fire. Despite the risk of repeated attacks, rescuers extinguished the blaze.

At around 8am, russian troops hit a minibus in the suburbs of Kherson. 2 civilians were killed. 8 people wounded in the drone attack on the bus were hospitalised in Kherson and another injured person was taken to Mykolaiv.

The Southern Defence Forces reported that on 8 August, Ukrainian troops repelled 8 Russian attacks in Prydniprovske region.

Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of the RMA, reported that in total, russian attacks on Kherson oblast killed 1 person and injuring 3, including a child. Damage was reported to 2 high-rise buildings, 6 private houses, a trolleybus and several cars. The russian forces shelled 36 settlements in the oblast.

Latest news for today in the western regions of Ukraine

Volyn oblast

Mykola Kateryniuk, Andriy Polkhovskyi, and Vladyslav Kuzmin from Volyn oblast were killed in the war with russian occupiers.

Zakarpattia oblast

While performing a combat mission in Donetsk oblast, Eduard Popovych, soldier, commander of a mortar platoon unit, resident of the village of Maly Rakovets, was killed. 36-year-old Eduard Popovych was killed on 5 August 2025 in the settlement of Diliyivtsi, Donetsk oblast.

Ivano-Frankivsk oblast

The military unit from Prykarpattia received tires and 2 thermal imagers worth a total of almost UAH 200,000 thanks to the regional budget.

Lviv oblast

The RMA reported that Lviv oblast is starting economic cooperation with the German federal state of Baden-Wurttemberg.

Rivne oblast

The RMA reported that in the first 7 months of this year, the oblast sent 14 units of office equipment, 3 chainsaws, fishing nets with a total length of over 4,700 m, an ATV, wood, building materials and other property to the military.

Ternopil oblast

61 Ternopil servicemen will receive UAH 10,000 each to purchase the necessary equipment and technical means. In 2024, financial assistance was provided to 3,198 defenders.

Khmelnytskyi oblast

Ivan Kruk, defender from Khmelnytskyi oblast, returned home from captivity. The defender was captured by the russians while defending Mariupol to the last. He had been in Russian captivity since April 2022. He is now at home. 

Chernivtsi oblast

14 people from Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk oblasts have arrived in Bukovina. The IDPs have already been settled in one of the temporary residences. There they will receive necessary things and comprehensive assistance.

International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian President, had a phone conversation with Donald Tusk, Polish Prime Minister. They discussed joint defense production, support for Ukrainians, and the negotiation process for Ukraine’s membership in the EU.
