The Ukrainian Defense Forces are holding back russian occupiers’ advance. Terrorists continue to kill Ukrainians and destroy Ukrainian cities and villages.
On 8 August, the total number of combat engagements was 77.
Communities of Novovasylivka, Stepok, Chuikivka, Marine, Bila Bereza, Seredyna-Buda in Sumy oblast; Timofiivka in Kharkiv oblast were hit by enemy artillery and mortar fire.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, Ukrainian soldiers repelled six enemy attacks, and another engagement is ongoing. The invaders’ aviation carried out seven strikes, dropping 12 guided bombs. In addition, the enemy carried out 144 attacks, including 10 from multiple launch rocket systems.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy attacked twice near Vovchansk and Novovasylivka.
Towards Kupiansk, russian occupiers carried out three attacks in the vicinity of Myrne, Kupiansk and Novaya Kruglyakivka, one clash is still ongoing.
Towards Lyman, the invading army carried out 14 attacks on Ukrainian positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Hrekivka, Karpivka, Kolodiazi, Torske, Dibrov, as well as in the vicinity of Shandryholovy. Five clashes are still ongoing.
Towards Siversk, russian units twice tried to advance on the positions of Ukrainian troops in the vicinity of Hryhorivka and Fedorivka.
Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy did not conduct offensive operations.
Towards Toretsk, the enemy tried to wedge into Ukrainian defenses three times in the vicinity of Toretsk and Pleshchiivka.
Towards Pokrovsk, Russian occupiers have made 25 attempts to push Ukrainian soldiers from the occupied positions in the vicinity of the settlements of Zvirovo, Volodymyrivka, Rodynske, Chervonyi Lyman, Lysivka, Kotlyne, Udachne, Novoukrainka, Zelenyi Kut, and in the vicinity of Kozatske, Dorozhne, and Novopavlivka. The defense forces are holding back the onslaught and repelled 24 attacks.
Towards Novopavlivka, Ukrainian defenders stopped six assault actions by enemy troops; six more clashes are still ongoing. The enemy is trying to advance in the areas of the settlements of Filiia, Zelene Pole, Tolste, Temyrivka, Maliivka, Novopil and Olhivske.
Towards Huliaipole, the enemy made one unsuccessful attack in the vicinity of Malynivka. In addition, it launched an air strike with unguided aviation missiles on Belohiria.
Towards Orikhiv, Ukrainian units repelled the invader’s attack towards Novoandriivka.
Towards Kherson, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks. The enemy launched an airstrike on Olhivka.
The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informs that since the evening of August 7, Russia has been attacking the territory of Ukraine with 104 Shahed attack UAVs, various types of simulator drones and 8 high-speed drones. 82 targets were shot down.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs reports that for the first time, through open voting in the Diya application, public activists were elected to be part of the Anti-Corruption Expert Group at the State Agency for Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries PlayCity.

Kharkiv oblast
Frontline
There were 147 combat clashes in the oblast.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units five times in the vicinity of Vovchansk and Fiholivka.
Towards Kupiansk, there were ten enemy attacks. The defense forces repelled the enemy’s assault actions near Myrne, Holubivka, Kindrashivka, Stepova Novoselivka and Zahryzove.
Shelling
Over the past day, the city of Kharkiv and 7 settlements of the oblast were subjected to enemy strikes.
▪️As a result of the shelling, 5 people were injured.
In the city of Kharkiv, a 66-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman were injured; in the city of Kupiansk, a 63-year-old man was injured; in the city of Balakliia, a 53-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were injured.
A 54-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman who were injured in the city of Kupiansk on August 6 also sought help.
The enemy attacked Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv with a UAV.

Donetsk oblast
Shelling
On August 7, russia launched 3,162 strikes on the front line and residential areas. 11 settlements were under fire: the cities of Dobropillia, Druzhkivka, Kostiantynivka, Kramatorsk, Lyman, Mykolaivka, the villages of Bilokuzminivka, Pyskunivka, Samarske, Tetyanivka, and Shandryholove. 114 civilian objects were damaged, including 94 residential buildings.

A civilian was injured in Dobropillya as a result of an FPV drone strike. In addition, last night, russian troops dropped two guided aerial bombs on the city, damaging an apartment building and critical infrastructure.

Luhansk oblast
Along the settlements along the line of contact and at the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ positions, over the past day the Russians attempted to strike 74 times with UAVs and FPV drones. They opened fire 26 times with tube artillery and conducted three strikes with multiple launch rocket systems. In the Lyman sector alone, 25 assault actions by the enemy were recorded. In the Siversk sector – another four.
In the so-called “LPR,” there is no willingness to reopen mines prepared for closure by the investor. They refuse to assume debt obligations to the miners or to carry out liquidation. At present, the investor, to whom the coal mining enterprises were leased at the beginning of 2024, is trying to return them to state ownership. Workers are facing delays in wage payments, and in a year and a half the modernization promised by the Russians has never begun. The situation is critical in Sukhodolske and Otamanivka, where mines named after Barakov, “Samsonivska-Zakhidna,” and “Molodohvardiyska” are now under threat of liquidation.
Last year, the occupation authorities in Sievierodonetsk began actively demolishing buildings destroyed by Russian troops. However, the first wave quickly ended. By what criteria these facilities were selected as priority in the half-ruined city is known only to the Russians, since many structures posing a greater danger to passers-by remain standing, unlike some that were dismantled. For example, in one of the nine-storey buildings in the old districts, collapses have been occurring regularly since spring 2023. The occupiers are indifferent.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine
Kyiv oblast
Kyiv Regional State Administration reported that on the night of 8 August, russia launched another series of strikes on peaceful areas of Kyiv oblast. The Irpin, Bucha and Gostomel communities suffered the most damage. Three women were injured as a result of enemy strikes in the Bucha district. Fires broke out in the private sector and houses were damaged.
Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk reported that, as a result of the russian Federation’s night-time drone attack on Kyiv oblast, more than 50 private houses, a church and a kindergarten were damaged.

A farewell ceremony was held in Kyiv for Ukrainian journalist Viktoria Roshchina, who was tortured to death by russians while in captivity last year. Viktoria’s death became known in October, but her body was only returned to Ukraine several months later. She was reporting on human rights violations, illegal detentions and torture in the occupied territories. She conducted reports from the occupied territories of Berdyansk, Melitopol, Mariupol, and Kherson. Viktoria Roshchina disappeared in the temporarily occupied territories. After her captivity, her body was returned with signs of torture — abrasions and bruises on various parts of her body, a broken rib. Experts also saw possible signs of electric shock.
Since the beginning of 2025, more than 700 veterans have applied to the Kyiv oblast employment service. 150 defenders have already been employed, and 101 participants of military operations received grants to start their own businesses, allowing to create around 300 new jobs.
On 8 August at 4:11 a.m. in Bucha on Yaroslav Mudry Street, rescuers from the 35th State Fire and Rescue Unit pulled a shepherd dog frightened by explosions out of a pump pit. The animal had fallen into a basement about 1.5 metres deep. Using a rescue rope, it was quickly lifted to the surface and handed over to its owner. According to the owner, the dog was terrified by enemy strikes and accidentally fell into the trap.
Zhytomyr oblast
The RMA reported that thanks to Estonia’s support, the project ‘Care for Every Child’ was implemented in Zhytomyr oblast. The Estonian government provided €15,000 to set up a new ward for boys at the Novoborivskyi Children’s Home. Now they have four cosy bedrooms, a recreation room, a rehabilitation room, hygiene rooms, and everything necessary for the staff.
Sumy oblast
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that over the past day, 11 combat engagements took place on Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kursk front. Enemy forces launched 20 airstrikes, dropped 46 guided bombs, and carried out 377 attacks, including 16 by multiple launch rocket systems.
Last night, russian forces attacked Sumy oblast by strike UAVs. In Sumy community, non-residential buildings, a store, and a vehicle were damaged. A 54-year-old man was injured in the attack..
In Shostka community, three russian UAV strikes damaged several apartment buildings, vehicles, and social infrastructure facilities.

Sumy Regional Military Administration informed that in Seredyna-Buda community, a russian helicopter attack using unguided aerial rockets “NAR” injured an 88-year-old local woman. Additionally, a 46-year-old man was wounded when a UAV dropped a VOG grenade.
Between the morning of 7 August and the morning of 8 August, russian forces carried out nearly 110 attacks on 47 settlements across 18 territorial communities in Sumy oblast. The highest number of strikes was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy actively used guided aerial bombs (over 20 strikes), VOG grenade drops from UAVs (25 strikes), multiple launch rocket systems (up to 10 strikes), as well as FPV-drones and other UAVs.
Enemy shelling damaged civilian infrastructure across multiple communities in Sumy oblast:
- Druzhba community: damage to civilian infrastructure;
- Seredyna-Buda community: six private residential houses, a non-residential building, two vehicles, and a garage were damaged;
- Sumy community: non-residential buildings, a store, and a vehicle were damaged;
- Velyka Pysarivka community: damage to a non-residential facility;
- Shostka community: several apartment buildings, vehicles, and social infrastructure facilities were damaged;
- Putyvl community: damage to a civilian infrastructure site.
Over the past day, eight residents were evacuated from border communities in Sumy oblast by local authorities in cooperation with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police, and civil society organizations.

Chernihiv oblast
On 8 August, the russian army attacked Semenivka community in Chernihiv oblast by a UAV. The strike caused a fire at a warehouse facility. Firefighters, together with the local emergency team, extinguished the blaze. The roof of the warehouse was destroyed over an area of 100 square meters.

‘North’ Operational Command reported that between the morning of 7 August and the morning of 8 August, russian forces attacked two villages in Novhorod-Siverskyi community using UAVs. In one of the villages, a Molniya-type drone struck a private house. Near the second village, an explosion caused by a UAV was recorded on the territory of a farm.
On the evening of 7 August, a russian UAV strike hit a village in Novhorod-Siverskyi community. A household was damaged, and a 27-year-old civilian woman, a local resident, sustained injuries. She was hospitalized for medical treatment.
Chernihiv Border Guard Detachment informed that on 8 August, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast — Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, and Snovsk — using various types of weapons. The enemy carried out 15 explosions by automatic grenade launchers (AGS), 8 FPV-drone strikes, and 9 explosive device drops from UAVs. Eight villages came under fire.
According to Viacheslav Chaus, Head of Chernihiv Regional Military Administration, reconstruction efforts continue in Yahidne village, Chernihiv oblast. So far, 72 residential houses have been restored, and major repairs are underway in 13 more. Street and road infrastructure is nearing completion, including asphalt paving, installation of pedestrian zones, fencing, and an autonomous lighting network with LED lamps and solar panels. The comprehensive recovery project has been implemented since 2023 by the State Agency for Restoration and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of the oblast council, reports that from evening until morning, the enemy continued to attack Nikopol region. The occupiers targeted the regional center, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities with drones and artillery. Fires occurred, a dormitory, 3 private homes, 2 garages, 2 outbuildings and a car were damaged. They also hit Hrushivka community of Kryvyi Rih region with a drone.
During the day, the enemy attacked two Nikopol and Synelnykove regions. The occupiers hit Nikopol region about four dozen times. They targeted the regional center, Chervonohryhorivka, Myrove, Marhanets and Pokrovske communities with drones and artillery.
Three people were injured – men aged 68 and 45, as well as a 56-year-old woman, who was hospitalized in serious condition. Several fires broke out, private houses, outbuildings, a garage, 2 cars, a greenhouse, a gas pipeline and a power line were damaged. The occupiers again hit Synelnykove region with GABs and drones. They targeted the Malomykhailivka, Mezhova and Pokrovske communities. A woman was injured. Fires broke out, an agricultural enterprise, a car and a building that was not in use were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
A medical center in Vinnytsia received funds to purchase a laser for removing traumatic tattoos – traces of gunpowder, metal and dirt after explosions. This service will be free for veterans, military personnel and residents of Vinnytsia community who suffered as a result of the russian-Ukrainian war.
Cherkasy oblast
The President of Ukraine honored the serviceman from Cherkasy region, Vladyslav Kulyk, who was killed in the war. The 3rd degree “For Courage” award was presented to the family of the deceased.
Latest news from the front of the southern regions of Ukraine
Zaporizhzhia oblast
On 7 August, the occupiers carried out 545 strikes on 14 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces conducted 8 airstrikes on Mala Tokmachka, Chervona Krynytsia, Poltavka, and Malynivka. 369 UAVs of various modifications (mostly FPV) attacked Bilenke, Veselianka, Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. Eight MLRS attacks hit Yuliivka, Orikhiv, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, and Uspenivka. There were 160 artillery strikes on the territories of Kamianske, Huliaipole, Shcherbaky, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, and Charivne. Fifteen reports were received about destroyed houses, apartments, and cars. Two people were killed as a result of enemy attacks on Polohy region.
According to the General Staff, as of 4:00 pm on 8 August, the enemy made one unsuccessful attack near Malynivka towards Huliaipole. Ukrainian units repelled an enemy attack near Novoandriivka towards Orikhiv. On 7 August, the Defense Forces of Ukraine repelled three russian attacks towards Orikhiv and one more towards Huliaipole.
The occupation administration in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia oblast required schools to hold class hours featuring female graduates who married russian servicemen. According to the resistance movement “Yellow Ribbon,” such events aim to encourage girls to view marriage to russian fighters as a socially prestigious choice.
Mykolaiv oblast
On 7 August, at around 08:40, the enemy attacked Mykolaiv oblast with two rocket-powered UAVs, the type of which is being identified. As a result of the attack, a utility structure in Mykolaiv region was damaged, and fires broke out in open areas.
Also yesterday, 7 August, at 13:05, the enemy carried out an artillery strike on Ochakiv community. No casualties were reported.
Odesa oblast
At night, the enemy attacked Odesa region with strike drones. As a result of the attack, the sewage pumping station buildings were damaged. Dry grass caught fire in a suburb due to falling debris. A gas station security guard was injured when a blast wave shattered the glass. The man sustained multiple lacerations to his arm.
According to the South Air Command, on the night of 8 August, air defense in southern Ukraine neutralized 23 strike UAVs in Odesa oblast.
Kherson oblast
On 8 August, at approximately 14:30, russian forces attacked the central part of Kherson with artillery. An elderly woman sustained a blast injury, concussion, shrapnel wound to the abdomen, and a traumatic arm amputation.
Around 10:40, russian forces attacked Antonivka with UAVs. Two men sustained blast injuries and shrapnel wounds to their limbs.
Volodymyr Litvinov, Head of Beryslav Regional Military Administration, reported that around 7:00 on 8 August, russian forces attacked the village council building in Dudchany, Kherson oblast, with two FPV drones. The building burned down.
On 7 August, the enemy attacked Kherson, Kizomys, Antonivka, Sofiivka, Bilozerka, Shyroka Balka, Berehove, Dniprovske, Prydniprovske, Yantarne, Komyshany, Stanislav, Mykilske, Romashkove, Beryslav, Virivka, Havrylivka, Monastyrske, Novovorontsovka, Novokairy, Shliakhove, Ukrainka, Tiahynka, Vysoke, Lvove, Mykolaivka, Olhivka, Odradokamianka. As a result of the shelling, the police reported damage to 26 objects: three apartment buildings and 15 private houses, a medical facility, three police service vehicles and two civilian cars, a gas pipeline, and a utility structure. One person was killed and another injured due to russian aggression.
According to the General Staff, on 8 August, the Defense Forces repelled six enemy attacks towards Kherson. On the previous day, the enemy made one unsuccessful attempt to advance. In the past day, 69 occupiers were eliminated, along with 11 artillery systems, 25 units of automotive and armored equipment, 23 Shahed-131/136 attack UAVs, 4 reconnaissance Zala UAVs, 6 motorcycles, 1 quad bike, 1 electronic warfare system, 2 Starlink antennas, and 2 communication antennas. 41 dugouts/shelters and 1 field fuel storage depot were destroyed or damaged.
