On 8 May, the aggressor attacked the positions of the Defense Forces 52 times.
Artillery shelling of border areas continues. In Sumy oblast, the settlements of Rohizne, Korenok, Kucherivka, and Seredyna-Buda were affected.
Towards Northern Sloboda and Kursk, there were four combat engagements. The enemy carried out 10 strikes on settlements and the positions of Ukrainian troops.
Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units seven times in the vicinity of Prylipka, Lyman, and Starytsia, and towards Izbytske, Ternova, and Chaikivka. Two combat engagements are still ongoing.
Towards Kupiansk, the enemy conducted no offensive actions.
Towards Lyman, the enemy conducted three assaults today towards the settlements of Drobysheve and Lyman.
Towards Sloviansk, the Defense Forces successfully repelled two attempts by the invaders to advance in the vicinity of Rai-Oleksandrivka and Kalenyky.
Towards Kramatorsk, the enemy carried out one attack near Tykhonivka.
Towards Kostiantynivka, the invaders carried out nine attacks in the vicinity of Ivanopillia, Pleshchiivka, Illinivka, Rusyn Yar, and Sofiivka. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
Towards Pokrovsk, the occupiers tried 16 times to dislodge Ukrainian soldiers from their positions in the vicinity of Novooleksandrivka, Zatyshok, Ivanivka, Dorozhnie, Rodynske, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, Udachne, Molodetske, and Novopidhorodne, and Serhiivka. Three combat engagements are still ongoing.
Towards Oleksandrivka, the enemy attacked the positions of Ukrainian defenders twice in the vicinity of Oleksandrohrad and Vorone. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
Towards Huliaipole, the Defense Forces repelled seven enemy attacks in the vicinity of Dobropillia, Zlahoda, Staroukrainka and Charivne. One combat engagement is still ongoing.
Towards Orikhiv, the enemy conducted no offensive actions today.
Towards Kherson, Ukrainian defenders successfully stopped one enemy attack towards the Antonivka Bridge.
In other areas, there were no significant changes in the situation.
Recent war events in the east of Ukraine
Kharkiv oblast
According to the General Staff, there were 33 assaults towards Pokrovsk in the vicinity of Bilytske, Nykyforivka, Rodynske, Novooleksandrivka, Pokrovsk, Novopavlivka, Toretske, Nove Shakhove, Udachne, Molodetske, Hryshyne, Kotlyne, and towards Hannivka, Novopavlivka, and Shevchenko.
The russian army attacked 13 times towards Lyman and another nine times towards Kostiantynivka.
Over the past day, there were 208 combat engagements in the oblast.
- Towards Southern Sloboda, the enemy stormed the positions of Ukrainian units six times in the vicinity of Prylipka, Starytsia, and Lyman, and Izbytske.
- Towards Kupiansk, Ukrainian defenders stopped four enemy attacks in the vicinity of Radkivka and Novoplatonivka.
Over the past day, Kharkiv and 17 settlements in Kharkiv oblast were subjected to enemy strikes.
- As a result of the shelling, 10 people were injured, including three children.
In Kharkiv, men aged 60 and 42, women aged 72, 47, and 34, two 7-year-old girls, and a 15-year-old girl were injured; in Bratenytsia of Bohodukhiv community, a 62-year-old man was injured; in Staryi Saltiv, a 54-year-old man sustained wounds.
Medics also provided assistance to three people injured on 6 May: a 32-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man in Izium, and a 57-year-old woman in Yaremivka of Oskil community.
In Osynove, Kupiansk community, a 53-year-old man was wounded as a result of an unknown device explosion.
The enemy attacked the Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv with UAVs.

The enemy actively deployed various types of weapons across Kharkiv oblast:
- Two KABs;
- Eight Geran-2 type UAVs;
- Three Molniia type UAVs;
- Six FPV drones;
- 47 UAVs of an unidentified type.
Civilian infrastructure objects were damaged or destroyed:
- In Kharkiv, railway infrastructure, two cars, a kiosk, and windows of six private houses were damaged;
- In Bohodukhiv region, a warehouse building (Zolochiv), an educational institution (Liutivka), two apartment buildings, and a dormitory (Odnorobivka) were damaged;
- In Izium region, a kindergarten, an outbuilding (Izium), and a private house (Slabunivka) were damaged;
- In Kharkiv region, two private houses (Ruska Lozova, Kozacha Lopan) and a civilian enterprise (Vilkhivka) were damaged;
- In Chuhuiv region, a private house and two cars (Staryi Saltiv) were damaged.
Kharkiv RMA reports that the transit evacuation point in Lozova received 220 people over the day. Since the point began operating, 32,782 people have been registered there.

Donetsk oblast
Assault activity of the russian occupiers has decreased towards Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
However, russians are actively conducting reconnaissance and accumulating forces, which indicates preparations for assaults, possibly involving equipment, according to Serhii Luhovyk, head of the personnel group of the anti-aircraft missile battalion of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade.
Four people were killed and three sustained injuries: Donetsk region police documented russian war crimes.
- For 7 May, law enforcement officers recorded 1,221 enemy strikes on the front line and the residential sector of the region.
- 10 settlements were under fire.
- 18 civilian objects were damaged, including 6 residential buildings.
Towards Kramatorsk, russians struck with FPV drones and three KAB-250 bombs, killing a civilian and wounding another. A private house, an apartment building, and four civilian cars were damaged. In the evening, russian troops dropped three FAB-250 bombs on Kramatorsk. One man was killed and a woman was injured, Kramatorsk CMA reports. Rescuers pulled the wounded woman and the deceased man from the rubble of a house. Among those affected by the shelling was also a terrified dog, DSNS in Donetsk region reports.
- As a result of enemy strikes in Dobropillia, two civilians were killed, and a private home was destroyed.
- Another person was killed in the village of Maiaky.
- In Druzhkivka, russian troops attacked with FPV drones; a civilian was wounded, and an apartment building and a civilian car were damaged.
- In Yarova, an enemy FPV drone injured a person.
Luhansk oblast
In Luhansk oblast, the enemy deployed drones in 13 instances over the past day. They struck three times with mortars and twice with automatic grenade launchers. They also fired tube artillery. Russians attacked from the direction of Kovalivka. In total, they attempted to advance eight times on the Lyman section of the front.
In Sievierodonetsk, the invaders demolished six high-rise buildings that they destroyed four years ago while storming and shelling the city. They are preparing to dismantle another 10 in the near future. In total, the occupiers plan to demolish at least 70 apartment buildings with serious damage. During the years of occupation, the russians have not built any new housing in Sievierodonetsk.
In the so-called “lpr,” students will inform on schoolchildren. The invaders will form cyber squads and media patrols from the student community. They will be forced to monitor students’ social media pages and look for content that, according to russian law, shows signs of being destructive. The young people will report their findings to the russian security forces.
What is happening now in the north of Ukraine

Sumy oblast
Kostiantyn Havrylchuk, Head of the Community, reported that a lorry was damaged in a russian strike in Putyvl community. The driver survived.
The State Emergency Service informed that two fires broke out as a result of russian shelling in Sumy oblast on the previous day, 7 May. In Sumy community, a house and an outbuilding caught fire. In Yampil community, a non-residential building caught fire.

According to the Regional Military Administration, as a result of enemy strikes on Sumy oblast, as of the morning of 8 May, one person was killed: a 52-year-old local resident of Krasnopillia community. In Velyka Pysarivka community, a 75-year-old woman was wounded in an enemy drone strike. In Bilopillia community, men aged 41 and 35 were injured in an enemy UAV strike. A 16-year-old girl who was injured on 5 May in an enemy UAV strike in Sumy community also sought medical assistance.
During the day, from the morning of 7 May to the morning of 8 May 2026, russian forces carried out almost 50 attacks on 31 settlements in 15 territorial communities of the oblast. The highest number of attacks was recorded in Sumy and Shostka regions. The enemy used mortars, artillery, MLRS, FPV drones, UAVs and guided aerial bombs. Over the past day, air raid alerts in the oblast lasted 15 hours and 28 minutes.
Civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- In Sumy community, road surfaces, non-residential buildings, a private residential house, an outbuilding and cars were damaged;
- In Stepanivka community, a car was destroyed and a shop building was damaged;
- In Znob-Novhorodske community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- In Krasnopillia community, a private residential house was damaged;
- In Svesa community, premises of an educational institution were damaged;
- In Khutir-Mykhailivskyi community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- In Yampil community, a non-residential premises, private residential houses and an excavator were damaged;
- In Okhtyrka community, a civilian infrastructure facility was damaged;
- In Shostka community, a private residential house and a non-residential building were damaged;
- In Seredyna-Buda community, a private residential house was destroyed;
- In Esman community, private residential houses were destroyed.
Over the past day, local authorities, together with units of the State Emergency Service, the National Police and non-governmental organisations, evacuated 36 people from border communities.
On the morning of 6 May, the russian army struck a civilian building in the central part of Sumy by two UAVs. As a result of Shahed drones hitting a kindergarten, two employees were killed and seven people were wounded.
Krasnopillia Settlement Council reported that Tamara Yasenova was killed during the russian Shahed attack on the kindergarten in Sumy on 6 May. She had previously worked as Head of Khmeliv Kindergarten. Larysa Hordiienko was also killed. She was a native of Velyka Pysarivka who worked in preschool education in Sumy and served as a clerk at the kindergarten, and later as its Head. According to Head of the Regional Military Administration Oleh Hryhorov, one of the injured, a 52-year-old woman, is in hospital.
Chernihiv oblast
The Northern Forest Office branch reported that a large-scale forest fire that broke out in two forestries in Chernihiv oblast on 5 May due to russia’s military aggression doubled in size during 7 May. The area of the fire increased from around 2,400 hectares to more than 4,000 hectares. The huge forest fire in the border area of Chernihiv oblast has now turned towards russia. Extinguishing it is almost impossible, as equipment is being destroyed by russian drones. Forest protection units are preventing the fire from spreading deeper into forest areas inside the territory.
According to Chernihiv Border Detachment, during the day on 7 May, russian forces attacked four border communities in Chernihiv oblast: Novhorod-Siverskyi, Semenivka, Horodnia and Snovsk. The enemy carried out mortar attacks with 1 explosion and barrel artillery attacks with 10 explosions, and launched FPV drone strikes with 7 explosions. Five settlements came under enemy fire.
Recent events in the central regions of Ukraine
Dnipropetrovsk oblast
Mykola Lukashuk, Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Council, reported that due to a UAV attack in Pavlohrad, three people were injured.
A fire broke out. Eleven private houses, two cars, a power line, and a gas pipeline were damaged. The occupiers used FPV drones and artillery. They targeted the regional center, Pokrovske, Chervonohryhorivka, and Marhanets communities. Fires occurred. An enterprise, unused buildings, and infrastructure were damaged.
In Pokrovske community, they struck by a guided aerial bomb (GAB). A private house and an outbuilding caught fire.
As a result of a UAV attack in Dubovykivka community, fires broke out. Five private houses and two outbuildings were damaged.
Vinnytsia oblast
In Kryzhopil settlement, members of the vocal group SOLO were awarded a letter of appreciation from Marine Corps for their support of Ukrainian soldiers.
Poltava oblast
In Poltava oblast, residents paid tribute to a police officer who died in the war just before his birthday. He served in “Lut” (Fury) assault brigade.

As reported by Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, on 7 May, the occupiers carried out 917 strikes on 48 settlements in Zaporizhzhia oblast. russian forces launched 28 airstrikes on Komyshuvakha, Zarichne, Novomykolaivka, Odarivske, Hryhorivske, Tavriyske, Liubytske, Yurkivka, Shchaslyve, Shevchenkivske, Orikhiv, Chervona Krynytsia, Mykilske, Luhivske, Mala Tokmachka, Lisne, Verkhna Tersa, Shyroke, Kopani, Huliaipilske, Dolynka, Vozdvyzhivka, and Soniachne. 626 UAVs of various modifications (mostly FPV drones) attacked Zaporizhzhia, Rozumivka, Novooleksandrivka, Novoyakovlivka, Novoolenivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Orikhiv, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Huliaipilske, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Tsvitkove, Varvarivka, Olenokostiantynivka, Pryluky, Dobropillia, Nove Zaporizhzhia and Rybne. 263 artillery strikes targeted Novoyakovlivka, Stepnohirsk, Prymorske, Stepove, Pavlivka, Lukianivske, Orikhiv, Huliaipole, Zaliznychne, Shcherbaky, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Mala Tokmachka, Charivne, Huliaipilske, Staroukrainka, Sviatopetrivka, Varvarivka, Olenokostiantynivka, Dobropillia, and Rybne. Authorities received 71 reports of destruction and damage to housing, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities. One person was killed, and 12 others were injured as a result of enemy attacks on Zaporizhzhia and the Zaporizhzhia region.
According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 8 May, the Defense Forces were repelling seven enemy attacks in the areas of Dobropillia, Zlahoda, Staroukrainka, and Charivne towards Huliaipole. One combat engagement is still ongoing. Over the past day, 7 May, the Defense Forces repelled 23 russian attacks towards Huliaipole and another six towards Orikhiv.
Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Robert “Madyar” Brovdi, reported that on 7 May, operators of the 414th Separate Brigade of the Unmanned Systems Forces “Madyar’s Birds” destroyed a russian Strela-10 surface-to-air missile system and UAV control points in the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia oblast. Information on losses and the scale of the damage is being clarified.
Mykolaiv oblast
Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration reported that yesterday, 7 May, throughout the day the enemy attacked the region with Shahed-type UAVs. Critical and transport infrastructure were targeted. A locomotive was damaged. There were no casualties.
Odesa oblast
The press service of the Southern Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that the memory of fallen border guards was honored in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. Memorial plaques were unveiled in the city for four fallen servicemen: Senior Sergeant Ihor Ivanov, Junior Sergeant Mykola Nikitin, and Senior Soldiers Yevhen Zhukovskyi and Oleksandr Popov.
Kherson oblast
Kherson RMA reported that today, seven people sought medical assistance after being injured in russian attacks the previous days. A Kherson resident who was attacked by a russian drone in Dniprovskyi district on 7 May at around 17:00 sustained a blast injury and an acute stress reaction. Five residents of Bilozerka who were injured during russian shelling on the evening of 6 May suffered blast injuries and concussions. A nurse who was injured during russian drone strikes on a house in Dniprovskyi district of Kherson on 5 May sustained a blast injury and concussion.
According to Kherson Regional Military Administration, over the past day, 7 May, the russian forces attacked Naddniprianske, Novotiahynka, Prydniprovske, Beryslav, Burhunka, Bilozerka, Daryivka, Novodmytrivka, Dudchany, Novoraisk, Stanislav, Komyshany, Zelenivka, Urozhaine, Zolota Balka, Borozenske, Khreshchenivka, Mykhailivka, Havrylivka, Kachkarivka, Myroliubivka, Rozlyv, Novokairy, Kyselivka, Antonivka, Veletenske, Ivanivka, Kozatske, Lvove, Mykilske, Mylove, Nezlamne, Sadove, Soniachne, Tokarivka, Inzhenerne, Zymivnyk, Blahovishchenske, Chornobaivka and the city of Kherson. As a result of the attacks, 2 apartment buildings, 13 private houses, cell towers, an outbuilding, a pharmacy, a warehouse and private vehicles were damaged. 22 people were injured due to russian aggression.
According to the General Staff, as of 16:00 on 8 May, Ukrainian defenders successfully stopped one enemy attack toward the Antonivskyi Bridge, Kherson.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko reported that during an off-site government meeting, the government ordered 96 million hryvnias from the state budget reserve fund to be allocated for the construction of anti-drone fortifications in Kherson and along evacuation routes. At this stage, the funding will allow the protection of another 27 road sections with a total length of more than 200 kilometers. Currently, anti-drone nets were installed along roads totaling more than 190 kilometers through the efforts of Kherson RMA together with the Ministry of Defense.
According to Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets, the International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed its readiness to assist in organizing the safe evacuation of civilians from occupied Oleshky and nearby settlements in Kherson oblast. According to available information, the situation remains critical in Oleshky, Hola Prystan, Stara Zburivka and Nova Zburivka in Kherson oblast. russian occupiers are blocking people from leaving and obstructing the delivery of essential goods and medicines. Overall, more than 6,000 people may require humanitarian assistance, including around 200 children. Most of them are people with limited mobility.

In Sokal community, state awards were presented to families of the fallen Defenders. Ivan Yakubovsky was awarded with the Order of the Cross of the Hero, Mykola Andriyovych was awarded with the III degree Order of Courage and Volodymyr Chaplyk was awarded with the Medal of Military Service to Ukraine.
Rivne oblast
The 1st group from Rivne oblast went to Albania for rehabilitation. These are 35 residents of Dubno region – veterans, children of veterans, relatives of fallen soldiers. They will undergo rehabilitation by the sea for a week.
Ternopil oblast
9 servicemen will receive funds in the amount of UAH 15,000 for treatment and rehabilitation. In 2025, 622 servicemen from Ternopil received such assistance.
Khmelnytskyi oblast
In Khmelnytskyi community, 98 family members of fallen Heroes received financial assistance. The total amount of assistance is over UAH 2m.
Chernivtsi oblast
Chernivtsi City Council presented the Heart of a Warrior’s Mother honorary badges to mothers of the fallen Defenders of Ukraine. The Heart of a Warrior Mother is a symbol of sacrifice, love and great maternal strength, which will forever live in the memory of the community along with the feat of their sons.
International support of Ukraine in the russian-Ukrainian war (russia’s invasion of Ukraine)
Denys Shmyhal, Energy Minister, announced that the US will allocate $100m to repair the Chernobyl nuclear power plant confinement facility, damaged by a russian drone. The structure lost its tightness due to the impact. The full cost of the repair will cost about €500m.
